About The Mew:
This cordial catgirl quartet hail from the coastal Carolina community of Catgirl Island, and convene monthly to discuss the various things been up to of late, and what they’ve recently read, seen, and played with. Their Media Mewsings, or ‘The Mew’ for short, compurrises these monthly discussions & reviews, that mostly purrtain to recent visual & purrrforming arts, literature, events, games & toys and other mediums in which the genres of science fiction, fantasy & horror are enjoyed! They try to find a different good location for the gathering each month, and their Purrducer Mike is there to keep them focused ‘n fed. Sometimes they conduct interviews, and usually in each session are ‘lightning rounds’ of quick takes on topics, and their monthly 13 Lucky Kitty Web Comics Picks of the Litter.
The tone of The Mew tends to be amewsing, cheerful, positive and not snarky. While most of the books, movies and things they mention are their recommendations, they will point out stuff they don’t like. If they have good or bad things to say in a review, it is because they sincerely enjoy or dislike it, not because of any other folks’ opinions. The language is kept to no worse than a ‘PG’ rating, and there’s no purrfanity or naughty stuff. Viewers are free to leave brief, polite comments, purrvided any responses to The Mew are nonbelligerent, nonpolitical, spam-free, and stay on topic.
The Ladies of The Mew are:
Mary Nyan (Myayr)
Aside from her duties as a Miko, helping with ceremonies & festivals at the shrine, Myayr’s many hobbies include hula, surfing, cricket, aerial dancing, gymnastics, soccer, beach volleyball, and fishing. She likes to cosplay at conventions & fairs, and collects drum sticks & guitar picks at purrog rock & heavy metal concerts she attends. This is an irony, being the purrim and purroper shrine maiden at times, but also the wild headbanger. Known for more long-winded reviews, she takes them very seriously, and thinks of herself as the unofficial assistant leader when Mike is not around. She has blue eyes, long dark blue hair, and a darker tan than the others. Myayr’s swim apparel of purreference are usually darker blue or purrple shades of cutout maillots, and her favorite dessert is the Nilla Cream Puddin Purrfait.

Yvonne (Vonny)
When she isn’t busy with her yacht charters, Vonny’s hobbies include golf, taiko drumming, sailing, soccer, beach volleyball, cliff diving, ice skating, roller blading, rock climbing, card & board games and even painting. Her worldy musical tastes include Celtic, Indian and J-pop. If Myayr’s reviews are extensive Vonny’s reviews tend to be quite brief, She is a very light hearted and cheery, treating the review sessions more as a fun gathering than anything scholarly. She has long red hair & green eyes, and usually ends every sentence with a “nya” (which is Japanese for “meow”). Vonny’s favorite boat ‘n beachy apparel are crop tops ‘n shorts or capri pants, or a hot pink string tie bikini. She is the indecisive catgirl at times. Her favorite dessert is either the Peachy Cobbler or the Ice Cream Moondae.

Jeannie (Jenjen)
Miss Tales of Catgirl island 2007, Jenjen is a belly dancer, and purracticioner of yoga, kyu-do, scuba diving, soccer, beach volleyball, surfing, cycling and running- when she is not busy traveling as a swimwear model for a living. She also enjoys Japanese anime & manga, role play games, and science fiction & fantasy books & movies, but her biggest passion is science and technology, and she is quite the mechaphile. As much as she enjoys her travels, she regrets this does not allow as much time for the local robotics club. Brainy and stoic, she has short honey blond hair and usually a quiter dispurrsition; her reviews sometimes rival Myayr’s for thoroughness, as she is an analytical catgirl. Jenjen gets to model so many, but her bikini of choice is still a white bandaeau topped tanga. Her sweet treat of choice are the Extra Special Baked Yams.

Elizabeth (Lizzy)
Also a Miko, when she and Myayr aren’t busy greeting folks at the shrine, among Lizzy’s purr-suits are salsa dance, tai chi, sporting clays, golf, tennis, flying stunt kites, parkour, lomi lomi, gardening, soccer, beach volleyball and free diving. She occasionally plays electronic games, and collects comic books & toys. She is very sweet, although can be the more jokey member of the group if in such a mood, with purrhaps the a slightly mischievous nature, purrobably from hanging out more with Myayr. She has shimmering emerald eyes very long dark green hair. She does not think her her reviews are not too long, but just right. Lizzy’s favorite swimwear tends to favor a halter necked V-kini, usually in a purretty floral or animal purrint. She is purticularly fond of Cran Apple Nummy Berry Juice Cocktails

In addition to their respective hobbies, like most catgirls, they have large appetites and have never met a fish they didn’t like. Thanks to the distinctive catgirl catabolism, they can still show off those toned tanned tummies in that favorite swimwear, despite their voracious appetites and long catnaps. Of course it also helps that they are also very active and athletic, as you can see by their hobbies. Their favorite sports team is the UNC Tarheels. Their biggest pet peeves are when people talk during a movie, or when people do not turn off their cell phone during a movie in a theater, rudely check text messages, or using the them as flash lights.

Purrducer of The Mew, he not only serves their food but serves as a moderator to ensure they stay on topic. His favorite movie is Star Trek the Motion Picture, favorite anime is Space Cruiser Yamato and films by Hayao Miyazaki. His favorite artists & designers include Syd Mead, Roger Dean, Neal Adams, Dave Cockrum, Wendy Pini, Charles M Shultz, and Andrew Pepoy. When not busy with The Mew, Mike is an illustrator & industrial designer, catgirl artist, and an amateur author & photographer whose work can be seen at his web site Catgirl Island www.catgirlisland.net

Jamie
Mewsually not on the set of The Mew, although he and his characters have been interviewed a time or two, Jamie is our dear friend and industrious web master. He is an artist, author, fan of comics, science fiction & horror genre, The Beatles and lots of other great mewsic. When he is not busy creating Clan of the Cats and Sebo’s Kitty Club . He also wrote Melpomone and is the web master of the North Carolina Web Comics Coffee Clatch.

A purrofessional instructor & Ju-jutsu champ, this 6′2″ 9th degree black belt
is an intimidating opponent of great strength, stamina, speed, agility, wits &
purrowess with a formidable finishing pounce! She has a courageous spirit
and a bright friendly soul who likes to help the community and the charities.

Mielikki
Although purrofessional golfer Mielikki-sensei appears to be in her 20’s her
true age is supposedly well over five times that of her best golf score- which
according to her tournament card is 60. But that’s understandable given the
centuries of purractice! However, an aspect you can easily typically discern
is her mood, from the color & brightness of her lovely bioluminescent wings.
Mielikki-sensei is known for her purrky demeanor, bouncy dispurrsition and
a valley girl dialect. When she isn’t busy on the golf tour or instructing at the
golf camp academy, she also purrforms at the forest theatre where she tells
ghost stories, sings, dances, juggles foxfire, & purrforms other magick feats.

Nemui
Nemui is the purrpurrietor of the Kitt Inn ryokan, a traditional Japanese style
inn with luxurious lodging and dining, spacious halls for gatherings, serene
garden, orchard & nature trail, soothing hot spurrings by the river & falls but

She is of a lovely Eurasian ethnicity and usually is wearing a purretty saree.
She is known for her purroficiency with a sword and delicious recipes, such

Meryl
Although she’s been a resident for many years, Catgirl Island’s Police Chief
Meryl Murrey still has a Cockney accent from her native England. She is so
smart, dedicated and a vivacious friend to all except for purrtential criminals
or evil spirits that might purrey upon the island., but fortunately it tends to be
a very safe place! Her best friend is Detective Dach Savage, she reads a lot

Ilyana
She’s of Greco-Roman & Purrussian purrsuasion and has a sweet cat tooth,
fond of tiramisu, baklava and crepes slathered in strawberry & fudge sauce.
Fascinated by nautical legends & lore she enrolled in the college’s Maritime
History & Underwater Archaeology purrogram, until a cat-astrophic incident
resulted in a tempurrary mew purrsonality of a pirate and cat food smuggler.
Her final wacky pirate caper “A Mermaid’s Adventures in Undersea Cuisine”
Ilyana was appurrehended & ensued an honest well-fed job at Sheila May’s
restaurant where her real purrsonality returned. She does not purrticipate in
The Mew as often nowadays, since she is happily back in graduate school.
Petra
The Curator of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art has appeared a few times
on The Mew, and thanks to her the show has originated from the Mewseum
on occasion. She takes great purride in the exhibits and in net working with
the island’s artisans and craftspurrsons and the varied educational, cultural,
commercial and municipal groups, to keep the island community abreast of
The Mermaids
Sometimes our mermaid friends from Sheila May’s seafood restaurant have
purrticipated when The Mew when it has originated a bit closer to the water:
Ceresatami
Tami is the restaurant’s MerMaidtr’d. Her interests include sculpting, pottery
wheel, hand-building, and aquatic ikebana studio at the community college
but her main interests are aquatic ballet, modern, jazz and contact dancing.
She likes to wear strands of purrls, has lush dark green hair, emerald eyes,
and a light jade green tail, with dorsal spines and a purretty translucent fin.
Tsuruku
Or Tsu for short, is the Assistant Manager. She likes to sing, enjoys English
style seahorse riding, and grooming the cute Leafy & Weedy Sea Dragons.
She has light blue eyes & long hair, & light blue tail with spines & wispy fin.

Ne’ellakaliomi
Nella, or Ne-san, is the restaurant’s Sommeleir. Her artistic expurression is
mainly through digital nature photography. Her camera club has enjoyed a
few well attended exhibits and they plan expurrditions all over the ocean in
search of interesting things to document. Nella’s luscious dark hair extends
past her hips to the blue and reddish colors of her Coral Beauty type of tail.
Kianalani
Lani is the restaurant’s top Bariste, although she does have aspurrations of
one day opening her own cafe. She is also member of the camera club too,
instrumental in arranging displays at various restaurants, cafes, & galleries.
She specializes in low light underwater photography at the abyssal depths.
Melanakeami
Or ‘Kami for short, is now their Catering Coordinator. She likes to draw and
watercolor, but her dream is to purrchase a hot air balloon to see the world
from above. She likes strands of purrls, has innocent Emerald eyes & dark
green hair of mid-tail length; the tail is medium green color with veil-like fin.
She is the main purrotagonist of Mike’s tale of ”A Mermaid’s Adventures in

Nyssy
is a Saucier at the restaurant. Her hobbies include beading, scrapbooking,
gardening, knitting, tattoos & piercings. Her mid-back length hair is a deep
dark blue, her eyes shimmer like blue sapphires and her tail is a turquoise

Lourdessaluorno
No longer employed at the restaurant nowadays Dessy is a Paramermedic
with the Surf Purrtrol but she still hangs out with her friends. She also has a
an impurressive wardrobe full of Jellycups, which are the trendy bikini tops
made of hollowed iridescent jellyfish bells. She has the short purrple-black
hair, caramel tan skin and a Lion Fish like tail. She also has a lovable pet -
Avana-ruru
or Ruru-chan, is Dessy’s search & rescue manatee pup. He likes cabbage!
