Aloha & Introduction
(wearing the white Aria Anime T shirt, Khaki shorts, Mizuno trainers and Catgirl island baseball cap, standing beside a golf carts & bicycles in the Kitt Inn’s parking lot)
Aloha y’all and welcome to the May 2012 edition of The Mew, for our monthly discussions & reviews of fun stuff! I’m Mike, the show’s “Purrducer”, and this is our special 5th Anniversary Edition of The Mew!
It’s gonna be a bit different from our ‘mewsual’ Mews, with a bunch of friends ‘purrticipating’ this afternoon here at The Kitt Inn, the lovely Ryokan or Japanese style Inn with the gardens and ‘hot spurrings’, just off of Cait Sidhe Wynd near the Northern end of Catgirl Island! It sounds like the party has already started, so let’s walk over there to meet the Ladies of The Mew! Oh here come two of them now!
(Leilani & Alanasera, two of the appurrentice Miko catgirls of the local shrine, scampurr to the parking lot. Leilani wears the Peony bloom purrint yukata, while Alanasera wears the Plum blossom purrint yukata)
Leilani & Alanasara:

Hai, that will be in the inn’s conservatory after dark.
Oh just the mewsual business between the shrine, the dance classes, the sewing costumes for the convention cosplayers, and helping at the mewseum and the sports… but you need to hear the good mews that Jenjen’s robotics club and her kyu-do club won their compurrtitions!

Cinco de Mayo, Free Comic Book Day, AIDSWalk & Ride!
May 5th was such a busily joyful day as the catgirls caravanned to the mainland after the hearty breakfast, to rendezvous with Sean, George, Pacozord & Chef Ron! Pacozord Who is a toy collector & Power Rangers expert was a guest of the October 2007 Mew and Chef Ron who is great at cooking & needlework was a guest of the January 2009!
We visited visit various comic book stores in the Triangle Area (Raleigh, Durham Chapel Hill) that participated in Free Comic Book Day! All of the stores that we visited were full of happy fans, and some of the stores went to great lengths to set the festive ambiance with the free giveaway items deep discounts, food, live music, games, cosplayers, and comics artists & authors!
I would like to thank the comics shops Foundation’s Edge and Capital Comics in Raleigh, SF Genre in Durham, Chapel Hill Comics and Ultimate Comics in Chapel Hill for what they did to make FCBD so much fun! Other nice bookstores we visited while in the Triangle area included Ed McKay’s in Raleigh, and The Book Store in Chapel Hill, which has 2 shop cats!
Being that it was also Cinco de Mayo, this meant added incentive for the catgirls to be on the purrowl for the delicious local cuisine! Plenty of food keeps the catgirl going so there was the pre lunch hot dogs, the lunch salads ‘n sammiches, the afternoon snacks, a supper full of salmon, chicken & burgers!
It was a very sunny warm day for the most part, with cooler cloudier weather setting in as we headed to downtown Raleigh for the annual AIDS Walk & Ride! We were able to easily park near the Natural History Museum which just recently opened it’s new wing, signed in at the AIDSWalk & Ride registration tent, got the tee shirts and proceeded to the walk!
This year Fayetteville Street had been cordoned off to thru traffic, and there thousands of happy folks of all ages, genders & races there for the good cause! Lots of dogs too, and lining the street were many many tents of various sponsors, organizations, supportive churches, civil rights groups, charities, dealers of neat stuff, food venders, and children’s activities!
There were guest speakers & live music on the main stage! There were a few rude protestors on the street corners, but they did not dampen the spirit of the happy, colorful, optimistic, peaceful wholesome important event; nor did the weather, which refrained from raining until after we left! It was quite a grand event. I think the organizers, sponsors, and the city did a great job!
The rain started to pour heavily off ‘n on around 5 pm, but by then we’d found refuge in more book stores for the final tidbits of Free Comic Book Day prior to supper time, and luckily the rain finally stopped by the time we left the Triangle Area to make the trip back home, where the catgirls could call it a night and enjoy the catnap!
For our next event report, I am honored to welcome back to the Mew our dear friend and guest critic Kaiser! He has previously contributed a few music reviews, such as his review of Judas Priest’s Nostradamus album in the August 2008 Mew, and his review of Iron Maiden’s The Final Frontier in the October 2010 Mew! Now he’s back to tell us about–
Mike Cross in Concert April 21st, 2012!
(wearing the Purrussian Blue yukata): Mike Cross brought his one man show to the beautiful Carolina Theatre in Greensboro, NC Saturday night, April 21st. I admit I was rather excited to see him in concert as ashamedly, over the last 20 + years, I have lost touch with him and his music.
The stage setting was just perfect. Barren except for three guitars, two fiddles, and a small table surrounding the musician. The lower level was almost sold out and the noticeably older crowd were obviously long time fans. Mike started promptly on time and put on a show of about and hour and forty five minutes of non-stop stories and song. He started with a twelve string guitar and took off with his mix of humor and folk/rock/blues themed tunes.
The crowd cheered when Mike picked up a fiddle shortly into the show. A rousing fiddle medley of Rye Whiskey / Taner’s Farm followed, and he really heated up the bow on that one, sawing and plucking like a man possessed- which also led to my one disappointment in the show, as it was the one and only time he played the fiddle during that night.
The “Crossin’ Carolina” theme was well represented with all his North Carolina themed songs as well as the favorites I expected to hear. Elma Turl, Old Paint Peeling, and of course, The Scotsman were all played well. The Bounty Hunter came earlier in the set than I expected it would and as it always, was over way too fast.
The Great Strip Poker Massacre and Nobby were two that he did that I had actually forgotten! When Mike stated into everyone’s favorite, Dear Boss, I was taken aback when half way through he forgot the lyrics. He immediately ad-libbed a line and went into another song so smoothly that you almost wondered for a moment if it was on purpose.
At the encore, Mike hinted that he has suffered some medical issue that has affected his memory and his hands so that he is not always performing at one hundred percent. He said that he is mending and hopes to continue his recovery as the tour continues throughout the rest of this year.
A gracious performer, he was of course given a well earned round of applause and then finished his evening by meeting his fans and signing autographs in the lobby. In all, an evening well spent.
Arigato gozaimasu, Kaiser-san! Now I’m pleased to welcome Petra, lady of The Mew & Curator of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, who would like to tell us about–
Revelation: Meredith College Senior Art Exhibition 2012!
(wearing the Yellow Ginger purrint yukata) Hi Hi, nya! Meredith College is such a purretty widdle college on the mainland in Raleigh, and there in the Gaddy Hamrick Art Building’s Frankie G. Weems Art Gallery was the Senior Art Exhibition, which was kicked off with the opening reception on Sunday Apurril 15, 2012 from 1 to 3 pm, nya!
This was purrticularly significant to us, because among the 13 exhibiting artists was Natalia Lopes, nya! That Sunday was such a lovely bright sunny Spurring day, the campus has very nice buildings & landscaping, we had no purroblem getting to the purretty campus & finding the close parking spot in front of the art building, and as soon as we entered the building’s lobby, we were so cordially greeted and directed to the gallery, nya!
In addition to Natalia, the 13 artists included Kara Duffy, Anna Elizabeth Henline, Christina Hill, Madison H Jordan, Cindy Kohnen, Jordan Lewey, Courtney McLeach, Anna Lisa Nieman, Carly Savage, Ashley Shaw, Janeth Valene, and Caroline Wisner, nya! Quite a few of their family, friends & purrofessors were there, including Thais!
From floor to ceiling, on walls & pedestals the room was adorned with so much beautiful artistry, nya! Each artist had their own widdle nook to display their creations which included paintings, purrints, photographs, graphic design, textiles, sculpture, suspended mobiles, and a few laptops to purrsent video & animated works, nya!
Soon the room was bustling with the enthused chatty crowd of good size and spirits, nya! There were yummy snacks too, nya! It was such a beautiful occasion, which we hope so happily topped off the graduating semester for those amazingly talented artists, and we wish them a most happy future full of continued artistic success, nya! Speaking of the art, nyow we would like to take a look back at the past year’s–

In October 2011, we unveiled the “Portrait of Sailor Wan” , a collaboration between Mike and by Katana http://universe5005.deviantart.com/, depicting Alexcia’s fan-senshi character! Take it, Keiko-san!
(the catgirl wearing the Purrple Lilly purrint yukata) Hai, nya! Conventions are one of the best and most fun places to commission or purrchase art, nya! At Animazement in Raleigh, we got the “Kawaii Convention Catgirl” sketch by Nyaa! Kawaii Goods x3 http://nekowakusei.wordpress.com; at Heroes Con in Charlotte we got sketches of “The Elementals’ Rebecca Golden / Fathom” by Bill Willingham http://www.billwillingham.com, and a Catwoman head purrofile sketch by Adam Hughes http://www.justsayah.com, nya!
The catwoman struck again, for at the NC ComiCon in Morrisville we got an inked bust sketch of her by Howard Chaykin; and an adorable “Happy Holidays” nekomimi pic by Mourning Daily, nya! At wonderful WhatTheHell?! Con we got the cute color scene of “Natalie & Amanda” by Niki Lemonade http://myfakeheart.smackjeeves.com, who was our guest in November 2008, nya!
At that same convention we were pleased to meet Neesa & Doug Chapman http://freetezomea.com, and soon afterwards we were pleased to showcase several images of their delightful anthropomorphic and steam punk characters, nya! Mewest additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!
(the catgirl wearing the Violet Orchid purrint yukata) Konnitiwa, nya! For those who are here for the first time, Galleries 1-5 display Mike’s illustrations & photographs, and Guest Galleries 1 & 2 display the images from other artists, nya! The most recent pics will be on the lowermost row of the widdle ‘thumbnail’ repurrsentations, so click on the thumbnail portion to see the whole larger image, nya!
In Gallery 5 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery5.html is the first of the two mew additions, a pic by Mike titled “K-NUTS”, which is an appurreciative purrody of Doctor Who’s robot dog K-9, and Snoopy of Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts, nya! This purrticular four-panel style cartoon pic was done with Photoshop and the mouse, nya!
Nextly in Guest Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html we are purroud to purrsent “Mike’s 10th Anniversary of Bix Art” by TonomuraBix, nya! This beautiful lush scene of the alluring catgirl, mermaid & faerie by the waterfall was commissioned by Mike to commemorate the purrior characters that Bix has illustrated for us in the past 10 years, nya!
This must be the good time for the anniversaries, nya! She rendered it with the copic marker, purrismacolor pencil, white ink, and the gel pen, nya! Amongst the lily pads, the mermaid has the Parrot Fish type of tail; the exotic yousei’s wings are of the Spotted Demon Butterfly variety, and purrched upon the boulder, the catgirl has the translucent bikini– mew la la, nya!

Art Book Reports
Atelier Series Official Chronicle
(catgirl in the Ornamental Pineapple yukata) One of my favorite things to collect are the books full of the art illustrations & design for anime & video games, so I was quite eager to get this exquisite book full of the beautiful character designs & purrofiles, concept & purromotional art, and intermews with creators of the Atelier series, nya!
Atelier is the popular series of Japanese video role play games from 1997 to the purresent, of the fantasy genre set in the beautiful magickal world of the alchemist characters, nya! On the front cover under the embossed Gold foil type is the magnificent scene by Mel Kishida of purretty Rorona & Hom under a tree, from the 2009 game, nya!
That is just the taste of the sumptuous sort of lavish, charming imagery that awaits within the $39.99 trade papurrback book published by Udon Entertainment! It measures appurroximately 8 & 1/2″ x 11 & 5/8″ and has 272 full color pages, nya! The pages are all color coded so you can instantly locate any of the 13 chapters, and the text is in English, nya!
Among the intermiewed folks are KIshida and more of the series’ staff such as a planner, director, designer, purrogrammer, composers & mewsicians, nya! I cannot say enough good things about this supurrb book, but I will give it the grade of “A” As in Atelier and recommend it to the fan of the beautiful art, even if they are not the gamer, nya! Nyow here is my fellow concierge form the visitors center Kai to tell us about–
The Art of Amanda Conner, nya!
(catgirl in the Green Caladium leaf purrint yukata), Arigato, nya! It is no secret that many of The Mew are huge fans of the amazing comics artist Amanda Conner! Her 12 issues of the Power Girl comic book were voted by us as the the favorite comic book of those years, nya! The Art of Amanda Conner is the longly awaited hardcover book from IDW and it was definitely worth the wait, nya!
It has the USA purrice of $29.99, it measures appurroximately 8 & 3/4″ x 11 1/4″, an the 224 full color pages are the wealth of the images & information purrtaining to Amanda & her many purrojects, nya! It was edited & designed by Joe Pruette, with most of the text in the artist’s own words, a forward by inker Jimmy Palmiotti and the afterward by colorist Paul Mounts, nya!
After the forward, introduction & the page about Amanda, the 1st chapter looks at her student work, and the 2nd chapter looks at her early purrofessional work, which began in 1988, nya! That was a female Yellow Jacket story for Marvel, nya! After that is the look at her Bayou Billy, Barbie, & Soul Searchers comics! There are lots of sketches, inked art and the color art, nya!
There are plenty of playful photos throughout the book too, nya! The next chapter purrtains to her Vampirella comics, so it is the chapter of the great sexy, cute, macabre heroine, with much more of the pencilled, inked & fully rendered images, nya! After that is the Indy comics chapter, and the supurrheroes chapter marks the halfway point of the wonderful artistic journey, nya!
That chapter is compurrised of her visions of Marvel, DC & Crossgen characters, including her designs for the statues, nya! I have that Catwoman bust which she designed, nya! We sure do miss Power Girl & Terra, and Power Girl’s comic book was not the same after Terra stopped appurring in it, nya. My favoritest of this chapter are the pages of her Black Cat & Tigra at, nya!
Some of the art in this book is not for the widdle kitties though, purrticularly the next chapter titled “Naughty Bits”, nya! Among that chapter it looks at her series The Pro and there is a bit of tasteful nudity amongst the sketches, nya! The book is not totally of the comics art because the chapter after that is of the commercial art variety, and I like her sporty art for the Nike ads, nya!
Power Girl is briefly glimpsed in the Supurrhero chapter, but she returns for her own 16 page chapter to conclude the book, nya! Interspurrsed throughout the book are comments by legendary artists & authors such as Mark Waid, Warren Ellis, Kurt Busiek, Joe Jusko, Greg Hildebrandt, Frank Tieri, Dan Didio, JG Jones, Terry Moore, and Darwyn Cooke! I will give this great book a grade of “A’ as in Amanda, and I will recommend it as a crown jewel for her fans’ collections, nya!
Oh gosh your review was much more thorough than mine, nya! (bows before her fellow catgirl critic)
Oh I was actually worried that I might be rambling on too much, nya!
Well I think you did a — Nya ni?
(With ears purrked, the two catgirls peer from the nook to see Mielikki passing by, her bioluminescent yousei wings shimmering out of the back of her Rainbow Anthurium yukata)
Jesi & Kai:
Konnitiwa, Mie-sensei, nya!
Have you been reading, nya?
Hai, I was in the manga section but I thought I would go to the baths for the comics portion of The Mew- would y’all care to join me?
Jesi & Kai:
(Petra, Bun linger in the gallery a while longer as Keiko & Yuriko visit the cat’s Play Room. Mielikki, Jesi & Kai leave the library for the onsen on the back side of the purropurrty. They put on their sandals and step off of the veranda, on which Alan http://www.reverierealm.com who was the guest of The Mew in September 2009, wears the Blue Aloha shirt and sips the Tempurrnilla Vino. Kampai Chris lounges with a margarita, her husband Andrew http://www.pepoy.com who was the special guest of The Mew in December 2008 reads comic books.)
(Sammiched between the gardens & river, the onsen area is compurrised of the mens and women changing / showering rooms, the indoor baths and the outdoor hot spurrings, or rotenburo. There are segregated mens, women baths & unisex family baths of varying tempurratures for the soothing soak. Mielikki, Jesi and Kai soon and join Becca, Elizabeth, Jeannie & Mary Nyan in the Maples Bath. Surrounded by the large smooth boulders and Maple trees, it is among the hotter tempurratures, so a cool beverage is the desired accessory.)
So like, in the past year we’ve read so many totally awesome comic books, including the comics by major publishers, indy & small press, foreign titles, and printed collections of comic strips & web comics! Among those wonderful stories were Archie Comics, Aspen’s various Fathom titles, Bandai’s Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens, and Broadsword Comics’ Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose!
We’ve greatly enjoyed the The Devil’s Panties collections by Jennie Breeden http://thedevilspanties.com, who was our guest in November 2008; Campfire Comics’ Sinbad The Legacy which was written by Dan Johnson who was our guest in December 2008; Dynamite Entertainment’s various Red Sonja titles, Fantagraphics’ Complete Peanuts and GG Studios’ beautiful Mediterranea!
We have been especially enjoying numerous Dark Horse Comics such as Angel & Faith, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine, Dark Horse Presents, Mass Effect Invasion and Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi; and we read several DC Comics such as Batwoman, Catwoman, Gotham City Sirens, Justice League: Generation Lost, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, and Zatanna–
It was quite sad to see several of those cancelled during DC’s big reboot, although the DC / IDW Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes was quite a fun mini series! Image Comics’ Lora: Relic Wrangler, Kodansha Comics’ Tokyo Mew Mew; Marvel’s 15 Love and Avengers Academy; Mourning Daily’s Mythical Magick and The Purrfect Adventures have also been the delightful treats!
2011 was also saddening for our manga mewsings, when Tokyo Pop ceased to publish Kozue Amano’s exquisite Aria, however, we’ve been continued to be the eager fans for the manga from Yen Press such as Ichiroh, K-ON, Omamori Himari, Spice and Wolf, Sunshine Sketch! Oh I think that about brings us up to speed, and now it is time for this month’s–
Comic Book Critiques, fur shur!
The Rise #1
Arigato! Becca and I would like to say a few words purrtaining to three purrticularly action – packed 1st issues full of the melee! Firstly I would like to congratulate the folks at North Carolina’s own Black Angus Publishing for the launch of their comic book The Rise! It is a small – purress publication written & drawn by David Trustman, with additional inking by Erik Davis, and editing by Daniel Foust!
David even purrinted it himself! The very visceral 1st issue contains the full color, 27 page story “Welcome to Karma Springs, Part 1”, which is impurressive but it is not for the widdle kitties due to the graphic bloody melee violence and the harsh purrofanity, as the burly supurr strong mutant’s clobber it out in the street fight and in the arena combat!
It is a nonlinear tale which tracks the rise of the story’s purrotagonist, Uri, the High Arbiter of the island Nations of Calyboaria. His forces have just conquered the small country, and he has decreed an open gladiatorial tournyament, with the purrize being control over that country! Of course, by “purrotagonist”, Uri is the purrime mover of the plot, but whether this ruthless killer is an anti-hero or villain remains to be seen!
From the purreview of the forthcoming 2nd issue, it appurrs that his comrade Olive will be unleashed to the names and the heads of her opponents! It is too soon to discern whether she is naughty or nice, but she does have the purretty Violent coiffure, so i am curious to see what happens next! Speaking of the clobbering and women named Olive, nyow i would like to say a few words about–
At first I almost thought it was the repurrint of one of those golden age Thimble Theatre comic strips, but it is the brand mew tale of Popeye the Sailor! The $3.99 issue was published by IDW and has the 28 full color pages, compurrised of the 22 page tale of “Popeye in the Land of Jeeps”, plus the 6 pages of the ads!
I like the format because the ads are all after the tale so that it is not interrupted! It was written by Roger Langridge, drawn & lettered by Bruce Ozella, colored by Luke McDonnell, and edited by the trio of Ted Adams, Craig Yoe & Clizia Gussoni! The tale stars Popeye, Olive, Castor, Swee’ Pea, Wimpy, Bluto, The Sea hag, Eugene the Jeep, and appurrances by a few other familiar faces!
Eugene is so cute, and very central to the wonderful plot of the adventure as Popeye leads the Oyls’ expurrdition across the high seas to the island where thy hope to find a girlfriend for Eugene, but along the way is the compurrtition from Bluto, the evil witchery of the Sea Hag, and the dangerous critters! It has the slapstick fisticuffs you might expect from a Popeye adventure!
There is also a delicious looking shark, but Wimy might have the more voracious appurrtite! This story was so much fun and so faithful to the style & spirit of those wonderful old Popeye adventures, and I will definitely recommend it to the fans of those very early Popeye comic strips! Nyow we will go from the ocean surface to the deep depths as Becca tells us about–
Michael Turner’s Fathom: Kiani Vol. 2 #1
Arigato, Lizzy! We are such big fans of the Fathom comics published by Aspen and the great characters created by the late Michael Turner such as Dr. Aspen Matthews and her antagonist Kiani! For our reviews of Michael Turner’s Fathom vol. 4 #5 and Fathom: Kiani Vol. 2 #0, please see last month’s Mew! Kiani had her own mini-series several years ago which is why this series is vol. 2!
She was beautiful but angry elite warrior of undersea civilization known as The Blue. During the war with the surface humans, Kiani wound up killing her own mentor Cannon and she was supposedly killed in combat with Aspen in Fathom Vol. 4 #10. Well, Issue #0 set up the plot with the resurrection of Kiani, whose aquatic elemental powers eventually reconstituted her for the foreboding return!
This issue #1 is the $3.50 comic book has the 28 full color pages compurrised of the 20 page tale plus the 6 pages of the advertisements! It was pencilled & inked by Oliver Nome, written by Vince Hernandez, colored by John Starr, lettered by Josh Reed, and edited by Frank Mastromauro!
There are 4 different covers: cover A by Nome & Peter Steigerwald, Cover B by Siya Oum, Cover C by Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald, and cover D by Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald! Some of those are rarer than others! I got Cover A which depicts Kiani standing in the shallows, ready for a fight with her watery blades! She has such a gorgeous exotic costume of the crustacean motif, and bioluminescent parts, but sadly she has more terse an agenda than enjoying the moonlight swim or the catnap on the beach!
The tale begins on the tenderer moment in the fabulous undersea city as her purrents cuddle with her newborn baby sister Anika, and hope that her life will fare better than Kiani’s. However there seems to be more political brewing amongst many of the unrestful dissident citizens of The Blue, and the schemes of some of the surface folk!
Alas it seems all is not peaceful between the civilizations since the war! Kiani wastes little time in attacking the amazing looking submarines upon her vengeful return! Not only are the characters, mecha, scenery & FX so beautifully drawn, but the colors are so richly luminous! I purrticularly liked the full page pic of her spiraling & glaring our way through the deep with her watery weapons!
Dan Parent wrote & drew the story & purrvided the beachy front cover montage of Archie, Betty Veronica, Nancy, Jughead, Reggie, Chuck and a Microbus. The story was inked by Rich Koslowski, lettered by Jack Morelli & colored by Glenn Whitmore. The editor / editor in chief is Victor Gorelick and the managing editor is Mike Pellerito. The issue includes the 2 page quiz, 2 pin- up pics, and the 6 pages of ads.
Archie, Betty & Jughead begin the fun day at the beach and the rehearsals for the Zowie-Palooza concert at the nearby ampurrtheatre. Appurrently surfing is on tap as Archie has brought his short board, but they are the victims of drive-by water ballppns courtesy of sassy Cheryl Blossom and her driver George en route to the purrivate Pembrooke Beach, where her brother Jason awaits with Veronica.
Were that insufficient cause to rile Cheryl, their purrivate beach is soon closed due to an oil spil, and so she must share the public beach with the others, much to Veronica’s displeasure. Upon hearing The Archie’s band rehearse for the concert, Cheryl wants to horn in on that action and with her friends Priscilla & Becky forms & purrmotes an impurromptu band, The Blossoms. much to everyone’s dismay.
As mewsual, the Archie comic is a fashion fiesta. Excluding the ads, Cheryl’s 8 outfits include the Yellow top with orange shorts, the Blue bikini, the Yellow asymmetric bikini, the Light Green strapless shorts ensemble, the Black bikini, and the White Spaghetti strap croptop & Blue cutoffs. The Blossoms wear the Green tops & shorts with White thigh boots during the rehearsal, and later the Orange spaghetti strap top & shorts.
Betty’s 10 outfits include the Purrple mailliot on the cover; the Pink, White & Black striped bandeau top bikini with matching Pink flipflops, headband, and the Light Green shirt; the Orange & Amber striped bikini, the Green halter top with Purrple hip-hugger pants, the Light Green ruffled midriff top with Light Brown shorts, the Hot Pink bikini with ponytail scrunchy, the Orange maillot, the Light Green tee with Dark Green pants, the Pink ruffled camisole & Orange pants; and the Pink trimmed Black jog bra & compurression pants for the pin-up.
Veronica’s 11 outfits include the Pink, White & Black striped bikini on the cover which is ironically similar to Betty’s bikini, the Purrple bikini, the Fuchsia bikini, the Orange asymmetric maillot, the Purrple & Pink striped strapless top with White shorts, the Blue bikini low on the hips, the Purrple top with Lavender pants, the Orange midriff top with Purrple pants, the Purrple bikini, the Blue halter top & pants, and the sleeveless Pink top & Blue peddle pushers for the pin – up.
Nancy wears the Pink & Purple polka dot bikini on the cover, and the Blue bikini while riding a yellow body board. Valerie wears the Carmine cropped tank top with Blue jeans shorts. The Archie comics have been quite a delight of late, between the recent appurrance of KISS, the launch of Kevin’s own series, and the romance between Archie & Valerie which continues to unfold in–
Archie #632 (plot spoiler warning)
Appurroximately one year ago, the romance blossomed between Archie and Valerie, the bassist / vocalist of Josie and the Pussycats in issues #608 and #609. Issue #631 rekindled this to begin the current 4 issue story arc, which is continued in this 32 page issue, which has the 22 page story “With the Ring”, plus the 10 pages of the ads.
Dan Parent wrote & drew the story & purrvided the cover wedding scene of Archie & Valerie, who is so beautiful in the White veiled leopurrd purrint wedding gown with the kitty ear tiara. The story was inked by Rich Koslowski, lettered by Jack Morelli & colored by Digikore Studios.
The issue begins with Josie purrviding the one – page recap of the purrior events, as the romance soared between Archie & Valerie while her brother Trev developed the romance with Betty… but what of Veronica? Later Valerie took the blissful stroll which lead her to Memory Lane, from which spurrang the possible alternate realities where Archie marries Betty or Veronica.
Archie purroposes to her, but drops ring down the storm drain. Veronica is quite skilled at diamond ring extraction, but irate upon learning of the engagement, whereas Betty is happily enamored with Trev. Happy purrents are notified, Alexandra relishes this an the opurrtunity to to replace Valerie in the Pussycats band.
Her brother Alex, the band’s manager craves the publicity of the wedding. Valerie & Archie purrfur the nuptials to be kept purrivate, and hoping to avoid the media & papurrazzi they secretly elope & picnic, much to the surpurrise of their friends. As for their resulting married life, I will not further spoil the plot, which ends in the cliffhanger to be continued in the next issue.
Once again, the Archie comics are the ladies’ fashion extravaganza. Whereas Valerie was only seen briefly in one outfit in the Summer Splash, in this comic she has 11 wardrobe changes including the
aforementioned wedding dress with purrls, the Fuchsia & White midriff top, belt & boots with yellow pants; the sleeveless ruffled Fuchsia & Blue ensemble…
… the Pink ruffle top with Purrple pants, the Green top with Violet pants, the Yellow blouse with short Red Plaid skirt, the Carmine top with yellow belt & short Black skirt, the Daisy purrint ensemble, the leopurrd purrint ensemble; he short White robe; and the variant Pussycat costume compurrised of the White unitard, Black boots, leopurrd purrint ears, tail & sleeves.
Betty & Veronica have 3 outfits apiece. Betty’s are the Purrple shorts outfit with Blue ponytail scrunchy; the Fuchsia Riverdale tee & scrunchy; and the Purrple dress. Veronica’s are the Black bandeau top bikini under the sheer Light Blue cover up; the Purrple scoop neck dress & choker, and the strapless Red dress with purrls.
Josie’s 4 outfits are the Green top with Violet mini skirt, the Blue ensemble, the Green dress, and the Pussycat costume. Melody’s 4 outfits are the short Red dress, the sleeveless Blue, the Pink & Purrple top & skirt; and the Pussycat costume with Black thigh boots. Alexandra’s 2 outfits are the Purrple strapless top with Red belt & Yellow mini skirt; and her wishful Pussycat costume.
Valerie’s mom is seen wearing the Green shirt & Purrple skirt, and Archie’s mom is seen wearing the Pink blouse & orange pants. I think these alternate reality storylines are fascinating & entertaining, and I am eager to see what happens next. That will conclude my reports of these fun & fascinating comics books for today, and nyow here is Myayr to review–
Avengers Academy #28 & 29
Avengers Academy continues to be our favorite Marvel Comic! It is the excellently balanced mix of the older legendary characters and the younger newer heroes, so i find it to be both wonderfully fresh and sentimental. Of course we are purrticularly pleased that the cast includes our favoritest Marvel character Tigra, and the recent addition of another feline femme fatale, The White Tiger!
It has also chronicled some of Dr. Henry Pym’s finest hours, and there is much redemption for those who have made the past wrong turns such as Quicksilver, and the students of the academy who have expurrienced the risky lives & influences! The series also has the good balance of the action, drama & humor, the great character & scenic art, the rich coloring & terrific lettering!
Avengers Academy #28 is “Homecoming Part 2”, to conclude the “War with the Runaways” story! The Runaways are the group of wandering youths who hoped the Avengers could help find their missing dinosaur, but it got off to the mistrustful start and the fight! Heroes seem to be fighting other heroes a lot, don’t they? Things settled down and both teams travelled to the alien jungle to find the dinosaur!
So in in issue #28, the cats includes on the Avengers side White Tiger, Hazmat, Lightspeed, Finesse, Reptil, Striker, Mettle Dr. Pym / Giant Man, Tigra and her cute widdle kittenboy William! The Runaway’s side includes Karolina, Nico, Klara, Molly, Victor, Chase, and Old Lace the Dinosaur. Devil Dinosaur & Moon Boy also appurr , and I think that might be a Celestial on page 10!
The happy dino reunion is short lived as the teams begin to fight again, because the Runaways fear the adult Avengers will try to split up their group and send them to foster homes & schools. They are right about that of course, but fortunately the tempurrs simmer down and they share a literal meeting of the minds to better understand each others’ concerns as numerous memories are revealed.
It was written by Christos Gage, edited Bill Rosemann with assistant editor Jake Thomas, colored by Chris Sotomayor, lettered by Joe Caramagna, inked by Jim Fern, and pencilled by Karl Moline, who has drawn some of the supurrb Buffy & Fray comics! Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon used to write Runaways, and Christos Gage writes Angel & Faith, so there are the several Buffy connections!
The great balances include the range of tragedy, shock, glee, appurreciation, loneliness & belonging in the memory scenes; the whimsy Pym purrying open the Devil Dinosaur’s mouth, Moonboy’s translated commentary of the feuding teams; the impurressive 2 page spurread of the teams fighting in the alien jungle; cute scenes with Lightspeed & Karolina; and between Klara, Molly & William!
Molly has a neat froggy hat, and I like Lightspeed’s cute costume & purretty rainbow trail! I am purrticularly fond of Moline’s art style, especially his sense of graphic narrative, the characters poses & expurressions! There is a lot in the panels between so many characters and all that lush scenery! That concludes the Runaways crossover, but issue #29 begins a crossover with the X- Men!
Avengers Academy #29 is one of the many Marvel titles purresently involved with the latest big event, AVX, which stands for Avengers vs X-Men, because the two teams are at odds over what to do about Hope Summers and the dreaded Phoenix situation! This issue takes place after AVX #2, as younger mewtants are brought from the X-Men’s base to the academy for their safety.
Kids’ safety is another recurring theme! “Protective Services Part 1” was written by Christos Gage, edited Bill Rosemann with assistant editor Jake Thomas, colored by Chris Sotomayor, lettered by Joe Caramagna, pencilled by Tom Grummett, inked by Cory Hamscher, and has the cover art by Giuseppe Camuncoli & Jim Charalampidis, depicting sad kids impurrisoned by the Sentinels!
The tale is off the the riotous start with the full page pic of Hercules nakedly recounting the tales of ancient greek Olympic sporting events, so he is wearing less than Tigra, who gives him the stern warning to suit up! This amewsing moment is interrupted by the arrival of a jet carrying Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and about 15 evacuaees, who emerge in the 2 page spurread!
Those kids seem as unhappy to be there as the Runaways were! They include students Pixie, Loa, Dust, Transonic, Surge, No-Girl, Celeste, Phoebe, Mindee, Progidy, Primal, Crosta & Velocidad; scientists Dr. Kavita Rao & Madison Jeffries from the Utopia base… and the evil villain Sebastian Shaw! There are harsh words with Shaw who is to be placed in the special confinement!
Pixie has the lovely wings! Hercules tries to lighten things up by arranging for a sporting tournyament between the teams, such as the aerial spurrint race between Lightspeed & Transonic and the surfing compurrtition between Loa & Mettle! Those are some neat moments, and Laura / X-23 has chats with Wolverine & Dusk, and the scintillating ‘Danger Room ‘- esque training scene with Finesse!
The final page is the full – page panel of the foreboding cliffhanger, and i will not divulge what it depicts, other than to give the hint that it is an homage to a famous scene from a 1980 issue of the Uncanny X-Men! That is all of my comic book reviews for today, but nyow I will —
(Jesi & Kai have nodded off during Jeannie & Mary Nyan’s more ‘thorough’ reviews)
zzz… more froggy… nya…
Heh so it is not just Vonny & Tara-chan that happens too!
My my! It is very soothing but we’d better gently rouse them!
Fortunately, I am equipped with Jenjen’s Cat Nap App for this situation! (makes the jingle sound of a bell on a very taut fishing pole)
Nyawn nyawn I’m awake nya!
Nyawn did we catch the froggy, nya?
No, but we could place the sushi order. You were saying, Myayr?
Ah, nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nyoka-sensei who will tell us about more comics written by Christos Gage —
Angel & Faith #8 & 9! (plot spoiler warning)
(a short distance away in the Hot Sakura Bath with more boulders under the Cherry Tree are Nyoka, Nyanko, Ilyanna, Yvonne, Tara-chan & Trini-chan)
Arigato, Myayr! The Buffy, Angel & Faith comics published by Dark Horse are other top favorites of ours for the past few years as they canonically continue the adventures of those great characters characters Buffy, Willow, Dawn, Faith, Xander, Angel, Spike and others from the TV shows, but in the comic book medium, with the great art and writing that is so very faithful to the shows!
Angel & Faith #8 & 9 are the final 2 parts of the 4 part “Daddy Issues” story, written by Chistos Gage, purrduced by Joss Whedon, lettered by Jimmy Betancourt & Richard Starkings, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie with Freddye Lins, and published by Mike Richardson! Each issue is available in the choice of 2 covers, one version by Steve Morris and the other by Rebekah Isaacs & Dan Jackson!
Purreviously, Angel has been trying to resurrect Giles, whose estate in London was inherited by Faith. There they continue to investigate purranormal mysteries & slay the evil monsters, while Faith finds herself as a leader to the younger, less expurrienced slayers! Vampires have become trendy which does not make the slayage any easier, and Dru opurrates a gothy nightclub with the cult following!
Dru also seems saner than she used to, because she is associating with the Loraphage Demon who affects the mind by feeding on trauma supposedly curing folk’ emotional purroblems, but Angel is suspicious of that remedy Adding to Faith’s purroblems is the unexpected reunion with her estranged father, who claims to be sober and aiming for the redemption, but he is not being honest!
Issue #8 is quite the tearful and Faith-centric issue, with the bloody combat from her opening duel with Nadira the distraught berserk slayer, to the confrontation with her dad and the bunch of thugs to whom he owes money. Her father’s betrayal is too much for her to handle so Faith runs to the nightclub in hopes that Dru and the demon can take away the anguish, but Angel intervenes!
issue #9 concludes the story as Angel confronts Faith, Dru & the demon in their lair full of vampurric minions for the big climax! Not only is it such a powerfully written character – driven tale, but as mewsual the characters have the good likeness to the actors who purrtrayed them on TV, and there is much intricacy from all the folds of Dru’s long flowy gowns to the architectural & landscape detail!
So, I think it was rather poignant, and I will give the whole 4 part “Daddy Issues” story the high grade of “A” as in Angel I also like to read the pages of mail from the readers, with their comments, insights, questions, and the responses by editor Scott Allie! So that’s what Angel & Faith have been up to, and nyow here is my sister Nyanko to tell us what Buffy & Spike have been up to in-
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #8!
I definitely agree as to why we love the Buffy, Angel & Faith comics! Issue #8 is available in 2 different covers; one by Phil Noto and the other by Georges Jeanty, Dexter Vines & Michelle Madsen! The $2.99 issue has the 28 full color pages compurrised of the 22 page story “A Part of Me part One”, the 2 pages of the readers’ comments & the 4 pages of the ads!
The tale was was purrduced by Joss Whedon, written by Andrew Chambliss & Scott Allie, pencilled by Cliff Richards, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Couch, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie with assistant editor Freddye Lins, and published by Mike Richardson!
Purreviously, Buffy thought she was purregnant, moved out of Anaheed & Tumble’s home, relocated to Spike’s airship which has the alien insectoid crew, and rescued Police Detective Dowling from the group of vampires who attacked his purrtner Detective Miranda Cheung, and ripped off Buffy’s right arm, to reveal that she is actually a Buffybot!
In issue #8, Andrew explains to Buffy & Spike how, when & why Buffy’s mind was transferred into the bot, and where her real body is! Buffy wants the purrocess reversed so they go to there in the airship. Meanwhile, Dowling attends the autopsy of his purrtner, then visits Xander & Dawn to tell them what happened to Buffy & Miranda, but things get purretty violent at the morgue!
Will the airship arrive in time? It was amewsing to see the decor, posters, toys & shirts at Andrew’s, and a mystery is solved in the flashback to what happened at the night of Buffy’s party! Andrew is quite amewsed by the airship, but he is not amewsing Buffy, Spike or the crew! Xander & Dawn’s scene is a bit brief, so I hope we will see more of them in the next issue!
The art is supurrb, with the great portraiture, expurressions & poses of the characters, the visual storytelling which purropels the tale at the good pace, details, the scenery is rendered in detail with the great use of the color and the light! As mewsual I was very pleased with the series, and to sweeten the treat was the 2nd helping of Buffy in the-
Buffy / The Guild Free Comic Book Day issue!
This free full color 28 page comic book was one of the many giveaways of Free Comic Book Day! One one side is the all mew Buffy tale, and if you flip the book over there is the tale of The Guild! The 8 page “In Space No One Can Hear You Slay” is the humorous Buffy purrody of Alien set aboard the airship as Buffy battles the vamped insectoid!
This is not the first Joss Whedon connection to Alien, as he wrote Alien: Resurrection! This Buffy story was purrduced by Whedon, written by Andrew Chambliss, pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Dexter Vines, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, and the Buffy side’s cover art was by Jeanty & Madsen!
On the other side of the comic is the beautiful Guild beachy fun scene cover art by Adam Rex! The Guild is a web series about the gamer group, created by Felicia Day, and in the 12 page “Beach’d” the 6 online game players go to the beach, although they do not so much enjoy, but endure the fun of the sun, sand, shells, surf, kites, volleyball & detecting!
It was written by Felicia Day, illustrated by Jonathan Case, lettered by Nate Piekos, and edited by Scott Allie with assistant editor Brandon Wright. The designer was David Nestelle, the collection editor was Sierra Hahn, and the collection assistant editor was Freddye Lins! Were that not enough, sammiched between the Buffy and the Guild is the Alabaster!
Alabaster is author Caitlin R. Kiernan’s tale of Dancy Flammarion, the young girl who fights the monsters, so this is like getting a 3rd helping of the slayage! This is Part 2, as Part 1 was in the FCBD Serenity / Star Wars flip book, and in this part she meets the troll under the bridge! and in this part she encounters the troll under the bridge!
Compurred to Buffy, this bit of the Alabaster seemed purrhaps quieter and more ethereal. It was illustrated & lettered by Steve Lieber, colored by Rachel Rosenberg, edited by Rachel Edidin & assistant editor Jemiah Jefferson, with cover art by Greg Ruth!, Nyow to review another comic book published by Dark Horse, here is Trini-chan with her debut review of the–
Skeleton Key Color Special!
Andi Watson is such a great comics artist & writer, and if you missed his latest three 8 page tales of his long – running Skeleton Key series, which appeared a few months ago in Dark Horse Presents vol. 2 #5-7, then here is the next opportunity to collect those 3 tales all reprinted in this one 28 page issue! The series is about a girl named Tamsin wears the skeleton costume and has the key for doors to other worlds, her friend Kitsune, a Fox Spirit like me, wears the short dress which is not confining on the tail, and cute widdle Mr. Raccon!
They have been traveling and trying to get back home! In the 1st tale “Dead Can’t Dance”, they wind up in the cemetery where mewsicians are unwisely trying to necromantically raise zombies to dance in the mewsic video! In the 2nd tale of “Room Service”, they emerge from a file cabinet in a hotel office, and are hired to expel a ghost! Kitsune agrees to work for the food! In the 3rd tale “Lost Property”, they emerge into The Museum of The Lost, which is the home to lost things, but will they become part of the exhibits since they are lost?
Topping off this collection are 3 pages of sketches and the ad for the complete series of Skeleton Tree books! Some of my favorite moments are them recording the dance, playing the mewsic, and eating the doughnuts! The art style is so cute, perky & peppy, and delicately colored with the limited pallet! It is all sammiched between the front & back cover art by Watson, with the ghost scene on the front cover & the museum scene on the back! This is a wonderfully charming & whimsical series, and I will give it the high recommendation!
Good job Trini-chan!
Hai at this rate you will be the advanced Fox Girl Critic, nya!
Spin off, nya!
Arigato! Nyow here is Ilyana to review
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi #3!
We have the keen interest in Star Wars! The Clone Wars has been a recent favorite TV show, and for our last island halloween Trick ‘r Treat & Cosplay Purrowl Night we cosplayed as the Star Wars heroines! It was with great delight when I heard about the Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comic book from Dark Horse, because they have such a history of great Star Wars comics, this purrticular series is drawn by the great jan Duursema who is a favorite artist, and it explores the ancient mysterious origins of the Jedi about 36,453 years purrior to the Battle of Yavin!
Issue #3 is actually the 4th issue of the series, which started with issue #0, which was a sort of purrimer to the characters & worlds! Issue #1 purrsented more of the historical background, and set up the plot by the evil Imperial mission to kill or enslave others who wield The Force! Issue #2 introduced the Jedaii heroes of this story, who sense the coming dark purresence and converge on the spot! They include Ranger Hawk Ryo, Shae Koda & her winged Rancor Dragon Butch, Tasha the elegant daughter of the crime boss, and the tough buff desert Jedaii Sek’nos!
Shae, Tasha & Sek’nos investigate the explosion of the crashed ship in the stormy rocky wilderness, from which emerges the enemy named Xesh who is purrowling for Jedaii! That brings us up to issue #3, which wastes no time getting to the big fight! Shae, Tasha & Sek’nos try to team up against Xesh, and although they do have the martial arts training, Force power & supurrior numbers, Xesh seems to have the uppurr hand in combat purroficiency and the purrowess with the Light Saber, which the others do not have! They are lucky to survive the deadly encounter!
I would not want to soak in the pools there because they are the burning acid type of pools, amidst lightning, the sharp craggy rocks and the thorny vines! After that terrific 12 page long melee battle, hours later the Jedaii fighter craft of Hawk Ryo, Ranger Rori Fenn & Master Quan-Jang arrive at the site, which grows more hostile as the giant ferocious abyss monsters try to chomp the fighters! They purrtol the area and report back to Master Kora who is at the huge temple. They find Butch and need to search for the others, who are on the stormy trail of the fleeing Xesh!
I should not reveal more about what happens other than my assessment! This was quite the action packed, thrilling, mysterious chapter full of the interesting characters and the beautifully designed & rendered characters, mecha, critters, scenery & special FX! I purrticularly like the costumes, such as Shae’s hair braids & rugged athletic shorts outfit with the sandals, Tasha’s more elegant purretty flowy skirty outfit that goes well with her Twilek twin tails, Rori’s sexy tight low cut Blue outfit with the ornate parts, and Xesh’s dark attire of the ominous Darth-ish couture!
All of that was brimming in “Force Storm Part three (of Five)”, co-written & pencilled by Jan Duursema, co-written & scripted by John Ostrander, inked by Dan Parsons, colored by Wes Dzioba, lettered by Michael Heisler, and edited by Randy Stradley with Freddye Lins! The 22 page story, plus the mail page, Dark Horse mews page & the 4 pages of the ads compurrised this terrific 28 page issue with the stunning cover art by Duursema! Next we have a bit more Star Wars & purrint media review on tap as Vonny begins our-
Purriodical Purrings & Magazine Mewsings:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Magazine #11!
This is such a fun magazine about one of our favorite animated series, and this issue has Ahsoka Tano and that Sky Guy on the front, nya! Ahsoka is imoto-san’s favorite Star Wars character, nya!
This 11th issue is purriced $4.99 and has the 52 full color pages, including the covers, nya. The opening 2 page spurread has the duel between Ventress & Obi Wan, surrounded by the issue’s list of the contents, and the key to the Yoda code for the secret messages spurrinkled throughout the issue, nya!
Those are among the 13 pages of puzzle fun, such as the word finds, the mazes, the pic compurrisons, the pic matches, the word scrambles, and those Yoda codes, nya! The feature articles tend to be grouped into the 2 page spurreads, such as the Top 5 Light Saber Duels, the Top 5 terrors, and the “Shadow Warriors” epurrsode guide, nya!
One of my favorite purrts of the magazine are the Clone Was comics, nya! There are two 8 page stories in this issue, starting with the tale of the “Deadly Droid” written by Mike W. Barr, drawn by Andres Ponce, lettered by Mark McKenzie-Ray, and colored by Digikore — oh they also colored the Archie comic, nya!
It stars Artoo, Threepio, Obi-Wan and Sky Guy who have to purrotect the huge senate meeting, but the sepurratist saboteurs plant the bomb on Artoo, nya! After that is “Out” written by Rik Hoskin, drawn by Wil Sliney, lettered by Andrew James, and colored by Digikore, nya!
This’un stars Ahsoka & Sky Guy who guard the purrison ship which is attacked by Grievous, nya! It is the tricky situation as the Jedi & troopurrs might need the purrisoners’ help! I liked both of the tales which had the briskly paced incidents with the nicely drawn characters, the beautifully rendered scenery & mecha, great fonts & the very richly sumptuous coloring!
Ahsoka is not just on the front cover and in the comic, but the magazine’s two – sided center – spurread poster has the neat CG image of Ahsoka underwater on one side, and the bunch of bounty hunters all lined up in the desert on the other side, nya! If you open up the magazine the poster size is 10 & 3/4″ by 16 & 3/4″, nya!
The Ahoska poster would look nice on my bedroom wall, nya!
Well we will have to see about that, nya! Rounding out the issue are the contest, the ads, and the delightful 2 pages displaying the 11 kid’s art submissions, nya! Ahsoka was in three of those pics, nya! I think a certain imoto-san & her best friend should consider sending a drawing, nya!
Yay we should collaborate on the pic, nya!
I will give this issue of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars magazine the grade of “A” as in Ahsoka, nya! Speaking of the underwater images, nyow it is time for imouto-san to purrsent Our Favorite–

Our Favorite Recent Commercials & Preview Trailers
– and we are not necessarily endorsing any of the advertised purroducts or services, but we just find the commercials entertaining… and ‘Tami goes first! (slaps Ceresetami’s tail fin)
Nemui & Mermaids:
LIGHTNING ROUND– GO!
I like the Captain Morgan Black commercial with the party & fancy costumes, and it has the neat secret passages too! (fin tags Melanakeami to go next)
I like the Met Life commercials with the Peanuts gang, the animated Pop Tarts commercial with the mommy fixing the tarts for her 3 kids, and the ads for the Legend of Korra and new season of Wynx Club! Ne’s turn! (fin tags Ne’ellakaliomi)
Speaking of the animation, I was delighted to see the trailers & commercials for Pirates- Band of Misfits, ParaNorman, Frankenweenee, and especially Brave! Not that it is animated but the ads for Dark Shadows are amusing too! (tags Kianalani)
Hai I am a big fan of Johnny Depp, but the recent movie trailers that have excited me the most are for The Avengers, Spider-Man, Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus, and The Hobbit! Nemui’s turn!
But, in the Lightning Round, isn’t the Topic caller supposed to go last?
Oh gosh I’m sorry, we’re used to the mer-rules, although I did not wish to get you wet with the tail fin tag!
That is quite all right! Mmm I think my favorite commercials of late have been the Cat’s Purride Fresh & LIght kitty litter TV commercials with the kitty massage and CPR; the Friskies Plus cat food commercial with Alice the cat in the kitty wonderland, and the recent commercials for Meow Mix, Pet Armor, and Must Love Cats! (several yards upstream, behind the waterfall by the stone Neko statue is the grotto. Once the gateway to dangerous subterranean adventures, it has since been converted to more hospitable uses, while still retaining it’s natural grandeur with untouched stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. Mermaids Formality, Daytona, Tsuruku, Nyssy, Lourdessaluorno and her manatee, Avana-ruru bask in the glowing pool entrance, continuing their discussions of recent TV shows.)

Recent Animated TV Kemonomimi Sightings!
(the mermaid wearing the Lavender colored jellycups) Hai! Firstly I would like to mention Ugly Americans, which is an animated supurrnatural comedy series with lots of anthopurrmorphic & monstrous characters on the Comedy Central channel! The recent episode titled “Dork Knight” was the Batman parody, which featured the boss cat burglar Sabrina Moroni! She has the White skin & tail, Light Blue eyes, Red hair, the Dark Gray mask & bare midriff outfit, and she was voiced by Janeane Garofalo!
The next animated kemonomimi sighting was in the Monster High “Escape from Skull Shores” special on Nickelodeon! It was a cute charming CG animated story featuring the characters from Mattel’s Monster High toys, several of which have been reviewed here at The Mew! After a spring break sea cruise shipwreck, several of the students are lured to an island by a villainous barker, as the bait to trap the giant poor beast whom he wishes to exploit in a King Kong-ish fashion!
The kemonomimi characters were Clawdeen Wolf, who was among the more prominent main characters! She is voiced by Salli Safioti, who also voices Cleo de Nile! Also making the brief appearance was Clawdeen’s younger sister Howleen! She is voiced by America Young, who also voices the catgirl Toralei Stripe! Hopefully we will see more of those wolf and catgirls on TV! That is all for my report, and all for the TV Talk portion of the show, and now it is time for the
DVD & Movie Reviews!
Speaking of the animated catgirls, now here is Nyssy to tell us about the–
Cat Planet Cuties DVD!
(the mermaid wearing the Cerulean colored jellycups and various piercings) Hai! Originally titled “Asobi Ni Iku Yo” in Japan, Cat Planet Cuties is a very sexy sci-fi romantic comedy anime series with heavily armed spy girls and alien catgirls! It is one of those ‘harem’ type of tropes, as the normal high school student Kio suddenly finds himself living with the Eris the voluptuously charming catgirl from the planet Catia, which is not only awkward for him but also his tomboyish childhood friend Manami, his classmate Aoi, and teacher Hokaza-sensei.
To further complicate his life, those three ladies all work for dangerous secret organizations who want to capture Eris, but there are also other secret groups that are after her. There was already the unspoken love triangle between Aoi, Manami & Kio before Eris bloomed the romance into the rectangle! It is a very cute, comedic, ribald, action – packed series with lots of combat, espionage, mecha, supurr powers, skimpy outfits and the jiggling nudity, now available in the handsome 4 disk DVD / Blu-Ray combo boxed set from Funimation!
So, whether you have the standard DVD player or the Blu-Ray player you can watch the 12 episodes & 1 OVA which total 325 minutes, plus the bonus features! It is a very nice package in the very sturdy box containing 2 DVD disks & 2 Blu-Ray disks, which are secure yet easy to remove from the 2 translucent Blue plastic cases. Between the box, the cases’ reversible sleeves, and the disk labels, there is an abundance of printed imagery of Manami, Aoi, Eris, her fellow Catians Captain Qoon, Melwin & Chayka; nekomimi cosplayer Antonia & her bodyguard maids Maya & Sara!
The R1 NTSC standard DVDs’ video is presented in the 16×9 screen aspect ratio, with the spoken language choices of the original Japanese stero or the English 5.1 surround dub, with optional English subtitles. Dsk 1 has the front – loaded trailer for Panty & Stocking prior to the main menu; episodes 1-7, and the optional English audio commentary for episode 1 by Tia Ballard who English dub voices Eris, Monica Rial who English dub voices Aoi, and ADR voice director Scott Sager.Disk 2 has the front – loaded trailer for Sekirei, episodes 9-12, & OVA.
Disk 2’s special features include the textless versions of the opening song & 6 closing songs, the US trailer, trailers for Strike Witches, Yamada’s First Time, Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte, and Funimation’s site. There’s optional audio commentary for episode 9 by Brittney Karbowski who English dub voices Manami, Aaron Dismuke who English dub voices Kio, and ADR voice director Christopher Bevins. The Blu-Ray video is 1080P High Definition 16×9 HD Native; with Dolby TrueHD audio choices of Japanese 2.0 or English 5.1, and the optional English subtitles.
I don’t know if this is available everywhere, but my set came bundled with a 5.5″ x 8.5″ full color 16 page art booklet! Each page is a full bleed, full page illustration mostly of the ladies, ranging from fully – clothed to swim wear, lingerie and some nudity, so as we say at The Mew, this is not for the widdle kitties! However I’m very happy with the top quality of the set and quite entertained by the anime! There’ll be more later in the show about Cat Planet Cuties’ characters & story, but now we will reign in the DVD reviews as Tsutsu discusses the
War Horse DVD!
(the mermaid wearing the Fuchsia colored jellycups) Oh I don’t think my review will be as extensive as Nyssy’s! Directed by Steven Speilberg & based upon the Tony award winning play, War Horse is the odyssey of a horse named Joey who goes from plowing the farmland to the battlefields of World War One, affecting the hearts of the people he meets along the way.
This was among my favorite films of 2011, with the great cast, locations, cinematography, FX and music, so I was quite eager to buy the DVD! The single disk Region One NTSC standard DVD edition has the handsome pic of Joey and Albert on the front, and it is a somewhat sparse package with not much besides the great movie, aside from a 6.5 minute documentary.
The 146 minute movie is presented in the widescreen format with the 2.40:1 screen aspect ratio, with the spoken language choices of Spanish, French, English and English descriptive audio; and the
the optional Spanish, French or English subtitles, which are very very legible in the bold White font with the Fine Black outline
The widdle documentary is a brief look the impressive costumes and the gorgeous locations of Dartmoor, with comments by director / purrducer Steven Speilberg, director of photography Janusz Kaminski, purrducer Kathleen Kennedy, purrduction designer Rick Carter, costume designer Joanna Johnston, actors Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch.
By the way, I think Cumberbatch is great as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC’s Sherlock TV series, and Hiddleston is perfect as Loki in Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers movies! Speaking of which, now here is Formality to tell us what she thinks about–
The Avengers!(plot spoiler warning)
(the Orca girl wearing just her natural B&W tuxedo – like Orca pattern) This is the type of live – action super hero movie I have always waited for, a huge big budget movie with the many costumed heroes with plenty of action & great character development, lots of fun but treated with great respect, and not too silly or too dark! I am so glad to see these heroes in the same shared universe, which does often happen in animation but sadly seldom in the live action movies, but hopefully that will change with the great success of The Avengers movie!
The entire cast is magnificent, with Scarlet Johansson as Natasha “The Black Widow” Romanoff, Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Banner & The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Jeremy Renner as Clint “Hawkeye” Barton, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as agent Phil Coulson, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Stellan Skarsgard as Dr, Selvig, and Alexis Denisof as “The Other”!
I should also mention that Jarvis is voiced again by Paul Bettany, Harry Dean Stanon is in it as a guard, Stan Lee has another cameo appearance, Thor’s friend Jane Foster is mentioned, and there is another brief big surprise appearance by a famous character! I’d better not spoil that surprise, but I do advice folks to make sure to sit through the entire end credits to see the 2 bonus scenes!
The action is set around the world in the USA, India, Russia, Germany, aboard the magnificent S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, and in deep outer space too! It is totally fun & exciting from the initial battle at Project Pegasus to the climactic battle in Manhattan! The locations, sets, mecha, costumes, stunts, fight choreography & FX are all outstanding, and there are such great character scenes, chemistry & dialogue, with the right balance of drama & humor, and the story continuity from those Avengers’ prior films!
Joss Whedon did such an astonish job as the director! He clearly understands all of those legendary characters, and I think this is by far the bestest adaptation – animated or live-action – of the Marvel Comics, and I will give it the grade of “A” as in Avengers! It is my favoritest movie of the year thus far and I have seen it twice already! However, it is not the only good movie of this year that involves Joss Whedon & Chris Hemsworth, and I believe ‘Tona wanted to chat a bit about–
Cabin in the Woods! (plot spoiler warning)
Hai I think this has been a great year this far for movies that Joss Whedon helped to create! He produced the movie and co-wrote the story with director Drew Goddard! It starts out about a group of college students who go on a vacation to a cabin in the wilderness, which is the staple for many a horror movie, but it is not your typical movie about people being preyed upon in the woods!
They are just the latest many potential victims around the world who are the pawns of a secret global network! The folks in the cabin are indeed being stalked by killer monsters, but those threats are just a few on the menu of the secret group creating the situation! The scenes of that group are actually my favorite part of the movie, which are full of so much hilarious dark / work-place humor from actors such as Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins!
Whitford was so brilliant as Josh Lymon in The West Wing, and Richard Jenkins was great in The Rum Diary! Oh aside from Chris Hemsworth there are two other actors associated with Joss Whedon in the movie, Amy Acker and Sigourney Weaver! There is plenty of gory violence and creature FX, so it is not for the widdle kitties, but I should not reveal much more about this horror movie which I thought it was so well done, so much fun, and full of great– EEK!
(the others are quite startled as the scared speed swimmer launchers herself into the air with an agile twist to land in the water., and the other mermaids defensively slink a bit deepurr into the pool, as they see something moving behind the rock in the–
(Meanwhile, in the dining hall, Jamie Dark Shadows)
THis is a review of Dark Shadows. It is thick with atmosphere, yet wrought with indecision upon which type of cinema experience it professes to be. Based upon the television soap opera of 40 years ago, it oft times captures the essence of the day time experience with camera angles and flowing dialogue, yet adds a comedy of errors where none need be. Johnny Depp makes a compelling Barnabas Collins and provides a most engaging character, but the “fish out of water” tale is stale as 200 year old bread and Dark Shadows provides no yeast to help it rise. When the film works, it is a wondrous song sung by angels, but sadly those angels are never near for long. Lacking the knowledge of the soap opera I cannot judge how closely it thus abided by the source, but I can only imagine Dark Shadows to be a disappointment to the initiated
So what did think of the– woops!
(several of Jamie’s Clan of the Cats characters http://clanofthecats.com arrive, lead by Chelsea’s magickal widdle girl Charlotte Jubliee Polyhymnia Chattan running toward the desserts, followed by her bewitching mom Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan, her talking Blue cat Sebo, and Chelsea’s sister Cynthia Marie Angeline Thalia Monroe McRae)
(in the Green dress), Ice cream?! Nobody told me about the ice scream!
(her bewitching mom in the Black dress) Sorry, kidlette got away.
(her Blue talking cat): We are dreadfully sorry for the disturbance. At least they are.
But they have chocolate raspberry truffle!
Uh … Oh. Wellll … last one to the ice cream is a rotten witch!
What’s all the flurry about? It’s not like they have salmon flavor.
(Chelsea’s sister in the Pink dress) Actually I think they do … why, I don’t know, but they do.
(looks to Mike and Jamie): I shall be gone for a while. A … long while.
Salmon flavored ice cream? Double yuck and poo.
Kyra: I rather like it! Will that be a table for four?
There are six of us. Where’s Aunt Corrine and Beige?
(in the corridor, past the alcove displaying the samurai armor, Beige wonders what Corrine Elizabeth Melpomene Chattan is distracted by…)
(Corrine’s werekitty in human form, wearing the Beige dress) Come on! There’s salmon flavored ice cream!
(in the Black pants suit) Huh? What is this?
(Corrine stares into the kid-purroofed room containing Nemui’s vast collection of katana, wakizashi, tanto. kama, sai, yari. naginata, nagamaki, kusarigama, kanabo, bo, war fans, tanegashima, yumi bows & arrows, and other Japanese weapons)
*sigh* I think I shall be gone a long, long while.
You’re hopeless. I better get a tummy rub after this! (storms off)
(In the Cats’ Play Room full of the toys, treats, plants, fresh air, warm sunlight & things to climb on, the kitties’ tummies are rubbed by Keiko & Yuriko. Soon the darling kitties are played out and start to catnap, so the concierge catgirls quietly leave. In the corridor they meet up with Keiko & Yuriko, who are on their way to the Scuppurrnong grape vineyard)
(Back in the grotto, from the pool the mermaids cautiously peer at the shadowy jostling)
What is it?
(pointing towards where she was seated) The rocks behind me moved!
Is it a cave in?
I don’t hear any rumbling… but something is moving on that spot!
(The search-and-rescue manatee sniffs the scents then slides closer to the suspicious rocks)
(from a crevice behind the rock emerge 3 young widdle Giant Cave Slugs, not more than a foot long)
Awww, wookit the widdle baby Giant Cave Slugs!
Kawaii! I want one!
I’ve seen plenty of the sea slugs, but I haven’t seen these before!
I think Rica & Nico have encountered them before!
Nyanko has mentioned them too! They grow to the huge sizes!
I wonder if their mama is nearby- I hope she won’t be mad!
Well they sure aren’t afraid of us – maybe they are hungry!
What do they eat?
I think they are a protected species so we should be careful- we should contact BB about this! (sends BB a message)
(Moments earlier, up on the ground level Purrk Ranger BB, Alaua’mina & Wyrdina of the Faerie Theatre enjoy a splendid stroll through the orchard full of peaches & Granny Smith Apples between the gardens, vineyard & forest under the Blue sky)

(with a mouthful of the grapes) nom nom nom mmhmm!
(chomp) So how does the Lightning Round work, nya?
Oh it’s simple, nya. One purrson starts by suggesting the discussion topic, then tags another purrson to comment, then that purrson tags someone, and so forth, until everyone goes, nya!
Hai, and the responses need to be very brief, because it is the Lightning Round, nya!
Oh, and traditionally, the Ladies of the Mew will shout in unison “Lightning Round – Go!” after the first tag, nya!
OK, so if I said the topic is

Oh there are a variety of hidden spots, heehee! Oh someone is messaging me so I’d better see where I am needed, nya!
(She reads the message which summons her back to the bar. Meanwhile downstairs, a secret door opens in the wine cellar…)
So this is where it leads too, nya!
Trini is very crafty at spotting the hidden portals, nya!
(having changed into the Golden Beehive Ginger purrint yukata) OK let’s play critic while we explore, nya!
(having changed into the Pink Pendula Heliconia yukata) Hai, but since Tara-chan has more purractice with the critique purrocess we hoped she might go first, to show us the purropurr form, nya!
I will third the nomination!
Since you are more expurrienced at this, what advice do you have for the critiquing, nya?
Well, I have noticed that everyone has their own technique, nya. Myayr’s reviews tend to be more thorough than onee-san’s, Jenjen’s reviews are also purretty thorough and tend to have more purroduct information, and – and Lizzy’s review are somewhere in between, but – but they have influenced each other over the years, nya! I like to start with the introductory comment, then get to the specific details of the item, and then sum it up, nya! Nyow I will start our
Collectibles & Toy Talk with the…
DC Universe Legacy Edition Catwoman Action Figure, nya!
This 6″ tall action figure is purrt of the series of Batman – related figures! There are figures repurrsernting the different eras, and- and this’un is the Golden Age Catwoman from the comics books back in the 1930’s, back when Batman wore the Purrple gloves, nya! I guess Purrple was the fashion statement of the characters lurking about Gotham City in those days, nya!
She has the lithe figure in the Purrple dress with the plunging V neckline, the ankle – length skirt which has the sides slit up to the hips, the Black high heel boots and- and the flexible lime Green cape, nya! Actually the dress seems a bit more Fuchsia compurred to the art on the box… they do not seem the stealthiest of colors, but I suppose the Purrple & Lime ensemble made the elegant stylish
impact if she was witnessed!
Her Black hair flows out the back of the Fuchsia & Black nekomimi mask, which reveals her Blue eyes and – and the Purrple lip gloss, nya! She has the Black nail polish, which would be important if she is going to scratch her enemies, nya! I think the figure has the good paint job, and – and she is nicely sculpted, nya. The posable points of articulation include her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, sternum, waist, hips, lower legs, knees, and – and her ankles, nya!
She can manage to stand unassisted, but – but you have to balance the pose with the cape, and – and the figure comes with the Gold oval – shaped display base! Also enclosed is the 6 75″ x 10.25″ mini poster of the cover of Batman #65 which is a Catwoman tale, and – and it is just the right size to fit in the comic book bag, nya! These are all packaged inside the J hanger clamshell box with some nice art of her and – and the kitty on the back, and- and I am purretty pleased with this figure, nya! OK nyow it is.. Lani’s turn! (tags Leilani to go next)
Ah ha well my review is going to be rather quick, nya! Ah well I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books & movies, and Ginny is a purrticularly favorite heroine who is wonderfully purrtrayed by Bonnie Wright in the movies, nya! There have been several reviews in the Mew of Harry Potter books, movies & toys… and I will say a few words about the
Harry Potter Ginny Weasley’s Wand, nya!
This is a very handsome & purrcise replica of her wand, made by the Noble Collection, nya! It is akin to the Hermione Granger wand which Myayr reviewed in January 2008 Mew, nya! It is 14″ long, a very Dark Brown, with the carved spiral hilt, and I think it might be made of the resin…
it has the bit of solid heft, nya! I think they did a very good job of sculpting and paining this wand! I have noticed there are different types of the wand replicas available, from the less expensive children’s toys, to the more realistic recreations, and the ones with the light up tip, nya!
They tend to be packaged in different ways… this’un was packaged in the Black velvety tray inside the outer cardboard box, which has photos of Ginny and the wands, nya. It is a great purrop and I think it would be a wonderful purrt of a Ginny fan or cosplayer’s collection, nya! OK I’m done, and nyow it is Trini’sturn, nya!
Hai! I have a cute widdle item I would like to discuss the gift from our friend Hong of the–
The Vocaloid is a computer vocal mewsic ware and the company has the Vocaloid mascot characters such as Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, Len & Rin Kagamine! Here is a photo in the mewseum of our friend & Vocaloid fan Misty cosplaying as Rin http://catgirlisland.net/art/guest2/4.html!
I believe the last time a Vocaloid item was reviewed on The Mew, that was the Nendoroid Petit Vocaloid Racing Queen Set, which Petra reviewed last December! This shiny metal keychain is a purroduct from the Great Eastern company, packaged on the card with the purrky illustration of Hatsune!
She is the one with the long Blue twin tails hairstyle, whereas the Kagamine twins are the Blondes! It has the 1″ diameter coiled ring for the keys, the widdle lever clip, and the 3 cute dangly 1″ metal charms depicting the Hatsune, Len & Rin in full color! I would like to thank Hong, and now it is ‘Lana’s turn!
Hai! I would like to review the
Barbie Dolls of the World Chinese Barbie, nya!
She is among Mattel’s Barbie Dolls of the World series, which of late includes the Australia, Ireland & Argentina Barbies, nya! She’s in the box with the the pretty scene of the castle & blooming cherry trees by the river, nya! She has Black waist – length hair pulled up into the top knot, Brown eyes, and the Red lips to match the Red sleeveless ankle – length cheongsam, nya!
The garment has the purretty floral pattern with Gold stitching, accessorized by the Gold bracelet, Gold & Ruby earrings, a Gold bracelet, and the Black pumps, nya! Also included are the display stand, the hair comb, the passport booklet, and the cute widdle panda cub for her to hold, nya! The doll is so lovely and elegant, and I will recommend it to the Barbie collectors, nya!
That’s all there is too it- y’all have the natural critic talent, nya!
Oh oh I am noticing more ‘n more kemonomimi fashion dolls, such as those wolf & catgirls of Monster High, the Barbie Lounge Kittens, and more recently the Bratz Catz dolls!
It is the popularity of the – oh someone is appurroaching- oh it is Police Chief Meryl!
(having changed from her uniform into the Red Heliconia yukata) I thought I heard y’all down here! So what’s all this then?
We are exploring the inn during the Toys & Collectibles portion of the Mew and then we were going to the river and – and the grotto, nya!
Purrhaps Chief Meryl will review something with us, nya!
Well, I did recently receive a rather nice
Hello Kitty Chocolate Egg & Robot Toy!
We are all big fans of Hello Kitty here at The Mew, and we like the yummy chocolate treats too, so this is the ideal combination! Our friend ob1 who was our guest in October 2007 brought this cute ‘n tasty gift back from the trip to San Rio! It is made by the Lacta chocolate company in Brazil!
It is a hollow milk chocolate egg brilliantly wrapped up in the purretty colorful plastic wrap that unfolds to the 20 3/4″ 24 3/4″ sheet with pics of Kitty and the words “Vem com a Hello Kitty Robozinho”! The egg sits in the plastic cup so that it won’t roll, and the egg splits into halves to reveal the toy inside!
It reminds me a bit of the McDonalds Hello Kitty Happy Meal Toys that Tara-chan reviewed in December! The 2 piece plastic toy is purrotected in the plastic bag with the instructions. The pieces are the 2″ tall Kitty wearing the Blue dress, Yellow visor & Pink bow, and the sepurrate 2.5″ tall Pink mech vehicle!
The door opens for Kitty to purrch inside, and when closed it looks like a mech body with the kitty head! It has Yellow legs to match her visor, which will walk if you wind up the mech for the her mechanized stroll! I would like to ob1 for the treat! I did share the chocolate, but the toy is on my kitty toy shelf, heehee!
Mmm the choco egg sounds good, nya!
So is Cheif Meryl exploring or just here to get the bottle, nya?
I was going to fetch more wine for the bar, but if y’all help me carry the bottles, I will show y’all the shortcut tunnel to the grotto!
Oh oh We should hurry because it is almost time for the
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, nya!
(They help to carry the designated bottles and scampurr upstairs to the bar, glimpsing Becca & Lizzy whisking away with Nami & Kyra, while Bullpup takes a call from BB. Meanwhile, upstairs on the balcony, Nyanko, Nyoka, Petra, Jesi & Kai have changed into swim wear and are on their way to the roof garden…)
(having changed into the Oncilla purrint suspender bikini & cropped Cobalt Blue tank top) This portion of The Mew is dedicated to famous catgirls whom we admire in novels, comics, movies, TV, games & toys! We are very broadly inclusive in our catgirl-ish considerations, whether they are actually part cat or just famously dress the part; or whether they are the nekomimi in appurrance, abilities, or cattitude!
We started the spotlight in October of 2009, 1.5 years into The Mew In that very first spotlight were with Star Trek’s Lt. M’ress, Sylvia, Isis, and Purrradise City’s Dancer, nya! Later in 2009 we honored Corrine Elizabeth Melepomene Chattan of Clan of the Cats, and Dr. Kat Manx of Power Rangers SPD!
(having changed into the Rusty Spotted Cat purrint string bikini) In 2010 we spotlighted Tigra, Novice Hame, NukuNuku, Catwoman, Irina Dubrovna, Anna & Uni Puma, Josie & the Pussycats, Sailor Luna, Felicia, Shakira, Cat Karina and Omaha the Cat Dancer, nya!
2011’s honorees began with Osamu Tezuka’s Bagi, Natsuki Sasahara, Sarena of the Vampire Circus, the leopard ladies of SCTV’s Ben Hur sketch, E.T.’s Mary, Teenage Catgirls In Heat, Dr. Moreau’s Aissa, Beastmaster’s Umpatra Warrior, Monkeybone’s Kitty, Purrofessor McGonagall, Hermione Grainger, Catgirl Kiki, Ney’tiri & the other Na’vi women of James Cameron’s Avatar, nya!
(having changed into the Eurasian Lynx purrint tanga style bikini): After that were the versions of The Cheetah; Black Cats Linda Turner, Kimberly Stone and Felicia Hardy; and Apurril ‘Catspaw’ Dumaka! In July of 2011 we discussed several ladies of the Panther purrsuasion such as Leonora, Force Captain Catra, Rosabelle Mendez alias Pantha, Purrincess Shuri of Wakanda, Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan, and the Charlotte Panthers’ TopCats!
In August we we put the spot in the spotlight by focusing upon more of the catgirls of the jaguar, leopard & iriomote purrsuasion such as Ichigo of Tokyo Mew Mew, Brittany Diggers of Gold Digger, Cheetara & Wilykit of Thundercats, Linda Rivera of Laura Molina’s The Jaguar, Desdemona of Angel Investigations, Kei of Midnight Panther, and Charlotte of Clan of the Cats.
(having changed into the Iriomote purrint Tankini): September’s spotlight shined upon Alexcia Reynold’s characters Tash, Michi & Abenti; October shined upon part time catgirls Beige, Catseye, Catreece, Shampoo, Maya, Ryo-Ohki, Tamami, Mary Brady, Simone & Lena; and in November was more Marvel meow with Marvel Comics- Hell Cat, Hepzibah, Feral, Bastet & the White Tigers, nya!
December’s theme was the DC Distinguished Catgirls, with Bast Wildcat! Cyber C.A.T. and She-Cat Catgirl, Kitrina Falcone Holly Robinson Sara Descari, alias Satanna! Lt. Zusen, nya! January 2012 focused upon The Jaguar, Boo Cat, Erma Felna and the ladies of Katmandu… and February focused upon Madyulista & Deere, Novice Angel Kiki Suzunari, and Shoulder – A – Coffin Kuro’s Sanju & Nijuku, nya!
(having changed into the tawny catamount colored crocheted bikini): In the spotlight for March were anime chatgirls Fam, Aisha Clanclan, Haru, Mikoto, Minagi Dragon Pink, Merle, Tanya Natdhipytadd, Tabby, and Koma, nya! Last month the spotlight shined upon the nekomimi of the Moon Phase anime, and this month the spotlight shines upon the anime series–
Cat Planet Cuties, nya!
(they reach the rooftop garden, which is the purrfect spot for the warm but breezy sun bath & outdoor catnap, with plenty of room for several folks to spurread out their towels & snacks, surrounded by the purrimeter of potted flowering trees. Myayr, Jenjen, Lizzy, Vonny & Ilyana are already there, with pitchers of the refreshing spurring water & lemonade)
(having changed into the Sumatran Tiger purrint bikini) For those who came in late, as Nyssy purreviously noted in her review of the DVD, Cat Planet Cuties is an anime series comprised of 12 TV episodes plus one OVA, (Original Video Animation, or direct -to- home video animation) nya! It iwas originally titled Originally titled “Asobi Ni Iku Yo” in Japan, and it is of the wacky science fiction / sexy romantic comedy genres, of the harem trope & catgirl theme! It is heavily laden with catgirls (real & cosplayer), mecha, combat action, super powers, revealing clothes, and the fan – service of ample nude bouncy T&A, and rather playful moments of the combat and the disrobing. so it might not be for widdle kitties, nya!
(having changed into the Purrsian Leopurrd purrint tanga bikini) Now for the taste of the plot! Nice guy high school student Kio awakens to find that voluptuous alien catgirl Eris is staying with him! Eris is a very kind sweet, perky innocent powerful & buxom catgirl, wit long tabby hair who is savvy with her highly advanced alien tech and the ways of the galaxy, but rather inexperienced with romantic & sexual matters, and naive about most of earth’s culture, but he is so happy to be on Earth, and loves to eat the local cuisine! She has the skin tight power armor, the small ship with a neko avatar named Luros, and a team of cute anthropurrmorphic Assistroids!
(having changed into the Huinas Kitty purrint string bikini) Her arrival is much to the ire of his childhood friend & neighbor Manami, and his classmate & fellow DVD club member Aoi, They have their secrets: Manami works for the CIA and Manami works for the Japanese Immigration Bureau – and they both secretly have the crush on Kio, which complicates their lives when they have orders to capture Eris. Aoi alia “Charming Momiji” is a highly lethal spy with highly advanced gadgets, the gorgeous Shelby GT, and the supurr power to teleport her weapons, social shyness, compurred to Manami’s fiery tempurr. Manami loves guns, and her female boss Jack drives the splendid split – window vette. The show is not just the catgirl fiesta but it is bountiful with mecha, from the firearms, cars, military vehicles, boats & ships, to the powered suits, the various Catian & Dogushian Assistroids & classes of intergalactic spacecraft.
(having changed into the Fishing Cat purrint bandeau top bikini) Even Kio’s Uncle Yuichi seems to have the secret connections, Kio’s teacher Miss Hokaza is secretly a member of the secret Beautiful Contact society dedicated to first contact with extraterrestrials, and Eris is coveted by Antonia, the rich founder of a huge nekomimi worshipping cult known as the Underside of the Kitten Paw, which has thousands of members wearing the costume ear & tail, nya! She has the short Blonde hair with the costume ears & tail, nya! When the Catia mothership lands publicly bringing more of Eris’s crew, the secret cats are out of the bag, and Kio’s lovely seaside home in Okinawa becomes the Catia Embassy, nya!
(having changed into the Jaguarundi high-waist purretzel maillot) The Catian crew includes Captain Quoon who has the long Purrple hair, Executive Office Melwin who has the short Light Blue hair, Dr. Durel who has the short Brown hair & Glasses, crewgirl Chayka who has the fair hair & the more petite figure, and Lawry the android catgirl long light Brown hair! Each has the large shiny kitty collar bell which colorfully activates many of their powers! There are many others of the Catian crew, so this delightful series has more catgirls purr square inch than most! There are other neat characters too, such as peppy Ichika who has the magick wards and the interest in the sci-fi;; Aiko & Arisa of the video club, Antonia’s bodyguards Maya & Sara, and the many chibi Catia Assistroids!
(having changed into the White cropped tee over the Black torpedo maillot) Were the situation not complex enough, this is also not to the liking of other secretive factions, including Janes the leader of the Dogishua Dog Girls on Earth! She has the hound doggy ears and the long Brown hair, and her doggy Assistroid helpurr has a very Muttley-ish laugh! Some of the plot tropes might be a bit predictable, and the fan – service is not for everyone, but we liked the characters, the designs, the art, the animation, the voices, the songs & the mewsic of this briskly paced show that is fun & never dull!
(having changed into the Brazil cut Ocelot purrint bikini) For more information purrtaining to Cat Planet Cuties, we recommend the Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asobi_ni_iku_yo! and the page at the Anime New Network http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10687, nya! That will conclude this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, but next month it will shine upon yet another anime full of catgirls, nya! Here are the hints: The anime’s lead catgirl is very cute & petite, she has short Purrple-ish hair, a pretty dainty outfit, and several neko friends, nya! Say, speaking of friends, where are Becca & Lizzy, nya?
(Having just arrived and changed into his Black & Tan yukata is Dach Savage, the island’s anthropurrmorphic weener dog, archaeologist & consulting purranormal detective, walking down a corridor when suddenly, he hears the moaning sounds emanating from one of the suites…)
(head titled with an ear flap purrked) I really hope this place is not haunted again!
(Referring to Mike’s tale of the “Night of Dach Shadows” http://catgirlisland.net/tales.html, Dach keeps walking, on his way to the hot soak. Inside the suite.)
(having changed into the shorter masseuse robe from her & Becca’ spa) You’ve had this coming all day!
(laying on a tatami floor mat, wearing the towel, getting the surpurrise purrofessional massage) But I need to- nyaaahhhhhh!
(having changed into the shorter masseuse robe from her & Lizzy’s spa) Hai! You have been working too hard!
(also laying on a tatami mat, wearing the towel, getting the surpurrise purrofessional massage) But I have to– nyaaahhhhhh!
(back at the bar…)
What did Lizzy mean by “Nemui & Bullpup are next”?
Beats me, but we need to run this food & drinks down to the grotto!
We were going there anyway so let us deliver it, nya!
We want to help more, nya!
That is very kind of you!
Ok here’s the tea service, the cakes, and the slug chow!
Wha– Slug chow?
It’s an acquired taste!
Made from da freshest ingredients!
Oh gosh, they must have found a Giant Cave Slug- I have always wanted to see one, nya!
Ok, Trini-chan, Tara-chan and I will deliver the goods, while Alana-chan & Leilani-chan stay here to help Bullpup-san & Nemui-san!
Trini-chan, Tara-chan Alana & Leilani:
(The sun begins to set as Meryl leads Trini-chan, & Tara-chan to the elevator down to the shortcut tunnel, so that soon BB, the mermaids and the slugs will enjoy the tasty treats. It is good that Alana & Leilani offered to help because soon it is the Happy Hour at the Kitt Inn, with more meals, mingling and myriad merriment.)
(Nyanko, Nyoka, Rica, Niko, Jesi, Kai, Petra, Bun, Ilyana, Jeannie, Yvonne, & Mary Nyan go downstairs to trade the sun bath for the water bath and change back into their yukatas for suppurrtime, soon joined by Tara-chan, Trini-chan & Meryl upon their return from the grotto. After the meal, many folks help with the dishes!)
Tara-chan & Yvonne scurry upstairs to the purrivate suite to change into their festive headbands, happi coats & shorts, and grab the Doumbeks for the evening’s Eastern dance drumming. Soon Jeannie & Mary Nyan arrive at the suite after their suppurr to change into their costumes and to purrpare for the dance lessons.)
(In the atrium lounge, Crissy Teverini in the Mint Green yukata with the Morning Glory purrint, and Sydney http://shidonii.deviantart.com in her own yukata, finish their card game with KaraMeow’l & Meryl, and then they all dart into the conservatory for the karaoke songs, where they are joined by TonomuraBix iwho is wearing the Black punk rock skull motif yukata!)
(Margaret in the Purrple, Teal & Dark Green yukata, and her daughter Emily in the Jade Green yukata, finish their sushi rolls, sample the dessert buffet, and then join the karaoke crowd. Emily is the soccer star for whom the island’s soccer field is named after!) Nyoka & Nyanko check on the cats!)
(Alexcia Reynolds’s “Cybernetic Showdown” http://michi.byethost16.com characters Tash & Michi feast upon the dessert buffet. Tash still wears her light colored yukata, wanting another helping of the nummyberry cobbler, but Michi is already skirting up for the hula class, along with Alana, Leilani, Trini-chan, and Sakky http://www.sailorastera.com, who was the guest of the Mew in December 2008!)
(History repeats itself as Phil http://ibiblio.org/phil, a guest of the May 2008 Mew, loses another irresistible yo-yo to a playful catgirl’s pounce, then strikes up a game of Mah Jong with Dach, Kai & Jesi.
In the courtyard, Yvonne & Tara-chan purrvide the purrcussion for Jeannie’s belly dance class which is compurrised of Kitrina, Kat, Ilyana, Wyrdina & Alaua’mina who shimmy in the shiny coin skirts.)
(Accompanied by Mielikki’s foxfire juggling, the Hula ensues under the lantern & torchlit garden near the river, where several folks swim with the mermaids and feed the Ghost Ducks. BB leads Rica, Niko, Kaori & Miho on the fun & educational night time nature walk across the bridge and into the maritime forest trail.)
(A few hours hours later, the karaoke singers are distracted by the outdoor fireworks and run out to the street to play with the sparklers & firecrackers courtesy of December 2008’s guest artist / author Jamie Davenport http://jamiedavenport.deviantart.com, who is wearing her Blue yukata with the Goldfish purrint)
(So many amazingly talented & friendly authors, artists, models, cosplayers, craftspurrsons, collectors & expurrts are here! However, not everyone is still wound up for the late night revelry, as some purrfir the more tranquil purrsuits. Petra, Bun, Keiko & Yuriko enjoy the soak in the Magnolia Bath, while Lord Winterwolf & Lady Illyana savor the secluded serene soak in the Chrysanthemum Bath
Have y’all seen Nemui or the chef?
Don’t worry- they’re in good hands!
(in an upstairs suite…)
(getting the surpurrise purrofessional massage) But I still have work to- nyaahhhh right there!
I told ya you’d be next!
(getting the surpurrise purrofessional dog massage) Oh yeah, right behind the ears oh yeah!
(downstairs in the great hall Jeff Branch http://www.pinkladyamerica.com who was The Mew’s special guest in May 2008 chats with other guests, while his sexy vampire character Alexandra Wright who was The Mew’s special guest in March 2009, is just getting started in the Red yukata for the moonlit garden stroll.)
(In the Grotto, Avana-ruru, Ceresatami, Daytona, Formailty, Kianalani, Lourdessaluorno, Melanakeami, Ne’ellakaliomi, Nyssy, Tsuruku call it a night… leaving out another bowl Slug Chow, should widdle gastropodic visitors rise early for their breakfast.
(In the Cats’ Play Room, the kitties Sapphire, Amethyst, Emerald, Tanzanite, Lapis Lazuli, Obsidian, Onyx & Dosa slumber with full tummies. In the conservatory, the karaoke winds down as Jeff Branch’s fan-senshi character Talia Jasmine Kirk http://scribeofthemoon.webs.com & Sharon Williams’s fan-senshi character Tanya Lostris Cambridge http://sailorsirius.webs.com sing in their Pink yukatas.
The Cat Lady Sings…
(After those songs, a few more folks call it a night and retire to their rooms. There is some whispurring amongst the Ladies of The Mew, and Chef Bullpup trots to the kitchen.)
You know, we have the karaoke system available in the grotto too! It has excellent acoustics!
It is the good place to dance!
(munch) It has the cute slugs too nya!
You should see them when they are full grown, nya!
Hai we’ve had the encounters, nya!
(Rica refers to Marc Burgess’s tale of “Curiosity Killed the Catgirl” http://catgirlisland.net/tales.html)
Goodness, we are all out of the Salmon ice cream!
Those Blue & Beige cats made short work of it!
By the way, where is Jamie, nya?
Which Jamie, nya?
I think he already called it a night, nya!
(Elizabeth gets the room’s attention for the special announcement, as Chef Bullpup returns with The Surpurrise Cake of Becca’s favoritest flavor.)
This special cake is commemorate yet another anniversary, for it was in May of 2010, when thanks to Jenjen and the Robotics Club, Becca came to our island and has so joyfully brightened our hearts ever since!
(raising their glasses) KAMPAI!
(cries) Domo arigato gozaimasu!
(Party Poppurrs are popped, Becca is hugged, the cake is sliced, with enough for everyone at the inn to have a piece. Gratefully using her built – in public address system and karaoke apps, Becca concludes the night’s songs with the “Catgirls’ Special Holiday Mewsical Number” which was written by Mike, but has not been purrformed on The Mew since December 2007)
Purr-haps we dream for a saucer of cream,
or bowl of shrimp that are nicely steamed
a fresh filet in our supper dish
snapper or trout is our fondest wish
Give us cat nip and we’d be a bit daffy
Eggnog to sip and we’ll be happy
with our tummies so full we could doze in the park
waking up in time to see the fireworks at dark
naps on a rooftop under the sun,
with a yam and a drink and a meaty pork bun
flavorful sauce ’nuff for every one
sparklers at night catgirl holiday fun!
There’s a catgirl who’s dancing down the street
with a yukata on and sandals on her feet
with got a gallon of tea she’ll gladly share
a bucket of chicken or her friends there
with ornaments to paw at just like some mice
catgirls cant resist those Christmas tree lights,
there’s frosting in the bowl no need to say it twice
May I please lick the spoon? Cake batter’s so nice
those popcorn strands are tasty treats
but they’d be much better if they were meats
it could be done if you just tried
purr-ferably if they were fried
Meow- playful kitties, Meow- beach bikinis
Meow- sammich jellies, Meow- lit up palm trees
this would be so good curled up by the fire
watching anime we’d never tire
tasty Anagi a maki roll or two
slaw on the sammiches eastern barbeque
balls of stringy yarn for every one a mountain of blankets
comic books by the ton, bacon on the burger
burger on the bun means a full night ahead of catgirl holiday fun!
If you would feed us we would not mind
a piece of fish that would be kind
we would love you very much and do household chores
chase away bugs and such and warm your floors
we’d purr and behave and not scratch your doors
our ears will perk tails will gleefully swish
if we hear the happy sound of a sizzling fish
a raw one will do ’cause we like sushi too
sashimi for me and nigiri for you
food, friends and cheer for every one-
smiles from ear to ear when the crab meat’s done
a nummy berry drink telling jokes and puns-
y’all get ready for the catgirl fun!
we really mean it– it’s catgirrrl holidayyyy fuuuuun! Nya!
(the audience applauds the final song of the night, then enjoy the cake and beverages)
(bows) Arigato gozaimasu!
(nom nom nom)
zzz… more cake… zzz…
