ARIGATO GOZAIMASU, NYA
It is my pleasure!
Ah, we have a lot on the agenda, but quickly, what has everyone been up to since the last Mew?
In the past week or so the charter has reeled in the Groupurrs, Mackerels, Snappurrs, Specks, Spots, the Stripurrs, and Trini-chan caught her first Marlin, nya!
BANZAI BANZAI BANZAI NYA!
Arigato! It was the long fight! I think I will stick to the pier & inshore fishing & the surfing though! Tara-chan caught some interesting specimens with the camera lens too!
Hai when we have not been fishing or purrcussioning for Jenjen’s dance troupe I have been caring for the cats and adding to my nature photos! I recently got photos of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, the Papurr Kite, the Cloudless Sulphur, the Painted Lady, the Pandora Sphinx the Carolina Sphinx, the Double Lined Gray Moth, the Stained Lophosis, the Clearwing Hummingbird, the Tiger Moth, the Purraying Mantis, the Eastern Cicada Killer, and the Ladybugs, nya!
That is the good collection!
Purrhaps we could see the pics after the show.
Speaking of after the show, we might have the supurrise visit later, nya! Jen’s turn, nya!
Soon the fall semester of the belly dance classes will begin and the classes are so booked that we have added the additional beginner & intermediate instructors. Otherwise I have been occupied at the Yoga studio, watching the Olympic archery with the Kyudo Club, and planning the Halloween animatronics with the Robotics Club.
Hai I can’t believe how the time has flown and soon Fall will be nigh! I have been watching some of the golf and WNBA, Things have been picking up at the Shrine and I am getting the requests for the Halloween & convention costumes!
Speaking of which we need to soon decide on the group theme for our annual island Halloween trick ‘r eat & cosplay purrowl! Becca and I have stayed purretty busy at the spa but we have been cheering for the Olympics and she has decided to try the hot salsa dance!
Hai I have to select the dance appurral and the Halloween costume, although it appurrs that I will likely help with the mermaid haunted kelp maze again and not purrticipate in the group cosplay!
Hai and I suspect I will be busier at the magick shop and the activities at the farmers market, but I hope y’all will stop by the market in the costumes!
I can’t get over how much bigger the magick shop seems since the renovation! It seems much bigger on the inside!
Ah ha well there is that!
I might need her help to further expand the dojo! It was quite thrilling to watch the Olympics and my students were purrticularly interested in the Judo compurrtition! Oh I wish the Paralympics games had more TV coverage! What has Chief Meryl been up to besides keeping the peace?
I watched the Olympics, read the books, and managed to drive my motorcycle on the mainland up the mountain highway! So how are things at the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art? I need to get by there to see the mew exhibits!
With the help of our wonderful volunteers, Bun and I have been curating the September exhibit of the local textile arts, nya! It is the beautiful sampling of the bikinis, maillots, purreos, yukatas, towels, linens & fabric decor as we transition from the Red hot summer hues to the Autumnal colors to reflect the change of nature’s pallet in the mewseum’s sculpture garden nya! Then it will be time for special spooky darker taste of the appurritions as we purrpare the October exhibit of the macabre Halloween arts, nya! Tara-chan & Trini-han have kindly signed up to volunteer for that show, nya!
Hai, and I want… I want to wear the tiger stripes, nya!
That is fine as long as they are tempurrarry, nya!
Hai it will just be the make-up we will apply to each other!
It is purrmitted!
Speaking of the masquerade, do we want to vote on the Halloween cosplay?
The sooner the better! What were the nominations for the cosplay theme?
Aria, Avengers Academy, Battle Athletes, Birds of Purrey, Gotham Grrls, Legion of Supurr Heroes, My Little Pony, Strike Witches, and X-Men.
Oh, I will be helping at the magick shop!
I suspect I will be purretty busy in uniform on the purrtrol that night, but I hope y’all have the safe fun time!
We should check with others and then vote after the show, nya!
Bun is helping to appurraise some art at the inn, so she Kyra, Nami, and maybe Nemui & Bullpup will be here later, nya!
After the shift change, they will bring the desserts, and purrhaps the surpurrise treat!
Everyone is purrviding the flavorful nutritious treats, nya!
Oh oh we almost forgot to ask what Mike has been up to!
Oh not a lot. It has been the leisurely month, so I was able to attend Librari Con, watch a lot of the Olympics and golf, and speaking of the TV shows, let’s jump right into

Librari-Con 2012 Report!
Librari-Con http://www.cumberland.lib.nc.us/teen/Libraricon/teens-Librari-Con.html is a wonderful gem of an event, held annual at the headquarters Library in Fayetteville, on the NC mainland not far from Fort Bragg! It is a free family – fun little one day mini con but it seems to be growing in attendance every year! This year it convened from 10 am to 5 pm at the lovely library, with plenty of free parking on the bright Summer day of Saturday September 1st, 2012! Early that morning after a stop at the NC farmers market we hit the road with past guests of The Mew Pacozord and Chef Ron, then we arrived at Pacozord’s mom’s house with the fresh veggies which she & Chef Ron prepared for the later lunch, while Pacozord and I fed the miniature horse and then whisked off to the library!
You could tell you were at the right place from all the cosplayers mingling out front! I’m not sure of the attendance but there were several hundred cosplayers representlng characters from many anime & manga, Doctor Who and Star Trek, Marvel & DC Comics, a bunch of furries, Pokemon, catgirls, Homestuck Trolls! There were quite a few elegant lolita dresses, yukatas, miko shozoku, zombie hunters, and representing Star Wars cosplayers were the good folks of the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers, plus a few Jedi, Jawas, Sandpeople, bounty hunters, and an Imperial Guard! everyone was so happy & friendly, especially the cordial, event staff & volunteers, and a Friends of the Library book sale with manga, graphic novels & anime at a super low price!
Out on the front lawn front were para para dancing, karaoke, and photo ops. On the first floor were the info desk, con ops, artist’s alley, seminar seating, and the digital arts lab. On the 2nd floor were the conference rooms, little kids’ chibi corner, manga lounge, another seating area for guests & presentations, and of course, all of the usual books and amenities of the library! Several anime companies helped to sponsor the con, and screened in the anime video room were Panda Go Panda, Dirty pair, Madoka Magica, Wagnaria and Unico! Some of the discussion topics included life in Japan, graphic novels for kids, writing & drawing workshops, improv comedy, anime rpgs, ghosts, The Walking Dead, Battle Royal & Hunger Games, con & cosplay tips, and the 501st’s presentation!
We probably spent most of the time in the cheerful artist’s alley room, where there were about 20 tables plus the book sale! Animazement and the 501st had tables in there too. The art included the sketches, prints, plushies, and various cute trinkets! There were several familiar face, too, including ZaidaCrescent, Sasu-hime, and the Lopes family! Our past guests Thais & Natalia Lopes were so pretty in their opulent dresses as their mom & dad helped at their table full of ribbons, keychains, magnets cards & prints! After a sumptuous lunch break back at Pacozord’s mom’s house, I returned to the con for a few more hours. Librari-Con had such a joyful ambiance at such a delightful location, where happy folks of all ages, races & genders were having the wonderful family friendly fun!
We eventually hit the road back home, followed by a bit of toy shopping, supper, and watching the season premier of Doctor Who to top off a great day! For making that day so great I would like to heartily thank Chef Ron, Pacozord & his mom; Melissa Long, the staff & volunteers of the Cumberland County Library, the 501st and other presenters, the event sponsors & contributers, and all of the artists, cosplayers, friends & fellow fans of all ages who are part of the joyfully peppy fun at Librari-Con! I give Librari-Con the “A” grade, and I hope I am able to attend again next year! Ah, that’s all for my con report, but Librari-Con does tie into our next topic, so here is Petra to tell us about this month’s additions to the
Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!
Hai we have two mew additions to the mewseum this month, nya! if y’all are mew to the mewseum, Galleries 1-6 display Mike’s illustrations & photography, whilst Guest Galleries 1 & 2 display images by other artists with their purmissions, nya! The most recent pics are on the bottom row of the widdle thumbnail portions, so just click on one to see the whole image, nya!
Nyow in Gust Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html is the adorably cute widdle pencil sketch of the catgirl shrine purriestess, the “Nekomimi Miko” by Sherry-Ann Panelo, also known as Sasu-hime http://hinata-hime.deviantart.com, nya! This is the 2nd cute illustration we have by her in the mewseum, as she also drew us a pic at last year’s Librari-Con, nya!
Nextly in Gallery 6 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery6.htm is Mike’s pic of the catgirl in her sailor fuku outfit & her kitty with the tasty treats, titled “Flavorful Festivity of Freckled Feline Female Friends”, nya! It is the pencil, pen, Copic marker & Photoshop pic of the a peppy, purrky pair of purring, purrple-haired party pals, to conclude this month’s additions to the mewseum, nya!
Oh that nekomimi miko maiden is so cute! Hmm it gives me the ideas to accessoorize my miko outfit at the shrine!
Hai I love the ribbons, the kitty bells, and – and the hair clip, nya!
It has the ornate detail including the flower she is holding and the widdle hearts she is casting!
Hai you can even see the see the reflections in her purretty eyes! Kawaii!
Sasu-hime definitely has the very delicate, sensitive, purrcise touch with the pencil media.
The party girl has the purretty jewelry, hair & tail ribbons!
The dark freckles on the chocolate ice creamy skin! Kawaii!
Kitty has the markings of the Tabby!
The succulent shad and the lemony cake in the party pic are making me hungry, nya!
Thank you for introducing those pics, petra!
Well if that Shad is inducing the cravings, the next portion of the Mew might give us the ravenous appurrtites, because nyow it is time for this month’s
Magazine Mewsings & Purriodicals Purrings:
Our Favorite Fish Photos & Appurrtizing Images!
This is portion of The Mew in which we nominate our favorite recent images of the delicacies from the deep, which have appurred on the recent purriodicals purrtaining to the angling, diving, aquarium, science or the culinary topics, nya! The images might be either photos or illustrations of the fish and – and the other aquatic treats that tempt our tummies, nya! Such images include the tasty Tuna, the beautiful Barra & the succulent Snappurr on the cover of Salt Water Fishings’ Lure Fishing special issue, nya!
I like…the succulent Steely on the cover of Salmon & Steelheader Journal vol.19 #3, nya! Oh this is making me hungry already, nya!
I relish the Rooster Fish from the Sea of Cortez on the cover of Kayak Angler vol.6 #3!
I wonder if the mouth-watering Moray Eel on the August cover of Scuba Diving would be the Anago sushi, num num num!
The tantalizing Trumpet Fish on the September cover of Sport Diver.
There is the delicious looking Largemouth caught on the August – September cover of FLW Bass Fishing!
Hai hai, and the Hogfish to hanker for on the August cover of Florida Sportsman!
The angler in purretty Pink bikini poses with the purrized Groupurr on the September cover of Saltwater Sportsman!
There are appurrtizing Angel Fish and the Bamboo Catfish on the August cover of Practical Fishkeeping, and I would not mind a lick of those Licorice Guaramis on the September / October cover of Coral!
The numcious Naso Tang , the Red Rainbow Fish, and the Blue Velvet Shrimp on the October cover of Tropical Fish Hobbyist, nya!
I will nominate the White Marlin on the September cover of Marlin magazine! It is much bigger than the one I caught! Which one does Mike like the most?
Oh it is a tough call, but maybe that Tarpon on the cover of Fly Fisherman vol. 43 #5, and that will do it for this month’s magazine mewsings, but the print media topic continues in this month’s
Comics Critiques & Manga Mewsings!
Wasteland http://www.onipress.com/thebigwet is a post-apocalyptic tale created by Anthony Johnson & Christopher Mitten, published by Oni Press, who publishes many great comics of diverse styles & genres! The series is largely set a century after much of the world was destroyed in a disaster known as The Big Wet, although issue #39’s story is set somewhere in the harsh desert lands of the USA just a decade after the incident. It is priced $3.99 and has 28 Black & White pages including the 22 page story “Lovesong for a Dead Child” written by Anthony Johnson, edited by James Lucas Jones, lettered by Douglas E Sherwood, with cover art by Christopher Mitten, and this issue was drawn by our friend Sandy Jarrell http://whamcomics.com!
The plot pertains to three kids Mary, Marcus & Michael who have been thinly hungrily walking across the barren wasteland, surviving against the environment & hostile barbarians, in search of food and the cryptic urban destination they have foreseen. The clothes, tools & weapons are simple as it gets, made of whatever scraps they can find and carry on their backs, and the food is whatever game they are lucky enough to find. It is a very primitive, brutal existence with a fair amount of deadly violence & harsh language. They have somehow developed psychic powers, such as Mary’s mind control and Marcus’s precognitive visions, but their emotions have become another of the hardships, which might be the most severe threat to them yet!
There are no less than three violent encounters settled with the knives, spears, rocks, brawn & bite, although the melee is not the ‘fun’ sort of post-apocalyptic action that involves talking apes or road warriors – it’s a very stark, bleak vignette of survival and a tragic look at what becomes of an eroding friendship, with Mary the much more sympathetic of the trio. The pace is brisk, but leaves plenty to ponder about what might lie ahead. The shapes of the comic’s panels, many quite panoramic, nicely convey the motion & momentum of the action & the flow of time; the minimalistic style splendidly conveys the characters’ expressions, body language & mass; and I can almost hear the visceral sounds of a snapping spear and a neck!
The shadows & negative space greatly create the ambience & textures of the primordial world, with some great looking rocks, boulders & canyons and the twilight & nocturnal scenes feel especially eerie.
Following the story are the 5 pages of ads, and the 1 page of prose titled Walking the Dust, Stories from the New Earth by Ankya Ofsteen. These passages offer additional tidbits about the state of the wrecked world, and this installment is a spectator’s account of a gladiatorial arena with the ghastliest of stakes! For our next review, we will trade the barbaric apocalyptic future story for the glamourous contemporary Hollywood tales as Nyo-sensei tells us about the catgirl costumed crusader in–
Critter vol. 2 #3!
Hai! Published by Big Dog Ink, Critter is the titular supurr heroine of the catgirl motif! Her real name is Cassia Crawford and she is the mewest member of California’s glamorous Purrfection team of heroines compurrised of Cougar, Kitten, Mouser & Pole Kat, They want Cassie to change her name to Josie as the successor to the purrrior Josie who has passed on, although in the purrior issue we may have seen her ghost haunt the purress conference of Cassie’ s debut, but it seems like Purrfection spends more time seeking the fame & leisure than fighting the crimes like Critter’s purrior team, Core!
Issue #3 has the uninterrupted 22 page tale created & written by Tom Hutchison, illustrated & colored by Fico Ossio & lettered by Kel Nuttall; plus the who’s who page, the issue #4 purreview page, and the 4 page Cricket purreview! Sammiched around the pages are the choice of the 3 covers, cover A by Ossio, cover B by Corey Knaebel & cover C by Nei Ruffino! I have cover A, which depicts Cassie in her older bare midriffed silvery White & Blue tights with tail, kitty ear pinna, thigh boots & opurra length gloves; and her mewer strapless Gold leopurrd purrint costume with the pinna, tail & the furry cuffs!
Tabitha Cougar wears the sexy Brown tube top & gloves & kitty pendant, baring the tummy above the Red skirt low on the hips and the boots! The rest of the Purrfection team have the bared tummies. Mouser’s by the Purrple & Fuchsia costume, Pole Kat’s Gold & Orange costume with the fishnets hose & furry boots as she swings around the pole, and gleeful Kitten’s Green costume with the cutouts & skirt, Gold trim & opurra length gloves! Kitten displays her cute talent to apply the lip gloss without using her hands, mew la la! This amewses Cassie, but she would rather be out on the purrtrol!
She hits the streets with her reporter friend on the motorcycle, as they zip through the streets of Hollywood! It has the neat streaky light after image effect past the gleaming urban spurrawl! After the fun night out and more photos, she goes back to her college dorm, where her best friend & room mate Gina rouses her later! Gina has the cute outfits too, such as this issue’s Brown short jacjet over the White cropped tee, the low rise Blue shorts & the Red belt! GIna wants to help Cassie with the costume alterations, but Cassie’s radio pinna receive the message for her to urgently rejoin the team!
She leaves Gina, but it is not the crisis but another publicity stunt at a gala rock star event, which poor Gina sadly watches alone on TV, having changed into the Green tube top & White hip hugger pants, with Cassie’s older costume nearby on the dress – form. I hope Cassie realizes the situation and is spends more time with Gina than with the celebrities! This was the colorfully vibrant issue full of the dazzling scenes & sexy clothes, but there is more of the fabulous female fashion in the 4 page purreview of Keith Thomas & Corey Zayatz’s Cricket, Agent of Unicorn! Cricket wears the tight form – fitting Black costume that covers her entire body except for her Green eyes & Blond pigtails, but she seems to be getting into the trouble too! Speaking of the boots & bare tummy, nyow I wish to review
Jim Balent’s Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #75!
I have been enjoying the Tarot series by Broadsword Comics, purrticularly the purrior mermaid and 3 Little Kittens story arcs! During the latter tale, a few naughty fey accosted Tarot the warrior witch & her boyfriend Jon at home, as the purrecursory attack to this issue’s tale of “The Dark Spiral Part One”! It was edited by Neil Morris, written & illustrated by creator / publisher / purresident Jim Balent, colored & lettered by his wife / vice purresident Holly, with an assist from Jim & color flats by Randi Leeann! Due to the nudity, violence & language, it is intended for the mature readers and not for the widdle kitties!
This issue is available in the 2 variant covers by Jim, and inside the front cover are the issue’s credits and the photos of Holly with the wand & Jim with the Raven Hex (Tarot’s sister) cosplayer! The pages nicely maximize the space, and I like how the 6 pages of bonuses and 4 pages of the ads are after the uninterrupted 22 page tale! I wish more publishers did it that way! Tarot investigates the fey scheme and strolls into the deserted town of Witchfork to spurring the trap! The ethereal gothy location is the ripe spot for the fierce, ribald chase & catfight between the warrior witch and the Briar Fairy!
It is the nonstop full throttle fierce fight with the kicking, whipping, stabbing, hair pulling, choke hold, hallucinogenic pixie dust, pyrokinesis & the energy bolts as relentless Tarot wants the answers! The fabulous character & fashion designs are among my favorite aspects of the series! Tarot (mostly) wears her Black & Gold warrior witch bikini thong armor, accessorized by the sword and thigh bands to match the opurra length gloves with the intricate pentagram, spiral & celtic knot patterns, and the thigh high boots accented by the chains & spikes, all topped off by the cape & the ornate horned mask!
Jessica Nova is credited as the model for the cryptic & violent yet alluring & stylish Briar Fairy with the translucent insectoid wings, the mischievous fangs, the supple ears and twig- like horns extending from her short coiffure, and the exotic spiraling tattoos on her Purrple skin! Following the story is the 3 page gallery of the sexy body paint artistry by Brian & Nick Wolfe, the 1 page of the Readers’ letters with the photos of fans Jessi & Heather, the page purrsenting this issue’s Broadsword Girl Karine, and the 1 page purreview of Holly’s web comic School Bites, which features Fujiko the vampire catgirl!
Speaking of the supurrnatural catgirls, I hope we will see more of Tarot’s friend Boo Cat soon, and Tarot’s winged kitty Pooka! After the 6 pages of the bonuses are the 4 pages of the ads for Broadsword & Tarot art, the back issues, digital stuff & the other purroducts! There is the purrview of the next issue’s cover art upon the back cover to sammich the 32 pages, and as mewsual I am eager to see what happens in round 2 between Tarot & the Briar Fairy, but I will have to wait because it is the bimonthly series! Nyow for our next review of the supurrnatural tales, here is Becca to tell us about
Beasts of Burden: Neighborhood Watch!
Hai! Dark Horse Comics’ Beasts of Burden is the wonderful series of the tales about the cats & dogs who are the purranormal purrotectors of the small town of Burden Hill, fighting the occult threats that the human citizens are unaware of! It is such a delightful, amewsing, sad, poignant. charming, thrilling saga written by Evan Dorkin and illustrated by Jill Thompson! We had the pleasure to meet them both at Heroes Con, where they both signed our copy of the Beasts of Burden hardcover collection, nya!
Since the initial batch of tales were collected in the book, the animals teamed up with Hellboy, and appurred in the Dark Horse Purresents anthology issues #4, 6 & 8!! This full color 28 page one shot comic book collects the three 8 page tales which appurred in Dark Horse Purresents! Lettered by Jason Arthur, firstly you get “Food Run” in which Orphan the Orange tabby cat & Rex the Doberman try to guard the hen house from the pesky marauding widdle goblin who wants the poultry for suppurr!
After that is the “Story Time” in which the wise old English Sheep Dog tells the younger pups the medieval tale of Sir Alric & his brave dog Bitan who battled the Basilik and its petrifying gaze! Thirdly is “The View from the Hill”, where the gang meets a peculiar flock of sheep of the supurrnatural nature! These are beautiful, fun, heroic & poignant tales of the occult adventures that I will give the high grade of “A” as in animals! As for the fashion component, the cats & dogs just wear the collars & tags!
To top it off is the 4 page purreview of Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and the Orm of Loch Ness by Eric Powell & Kyle Hotz! It is the ancient tale of the Monk at the pagan burial where the giant water serpent dwells! Eric Powell is purrhaps best known as the creator of The Goon! Last month we reviewed TwoMorrows’ Modern Masters book about Powell by Jorge Khoury & Eric Nolen-Weathington who was our guest in September, 2010! The next supurrnatural Dark Horse comic I wish to purraise is
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #12!
Issue #12 is the 28 page comic book from Dark Horse compurrised of the 22 page tale “Guarded Part 2”, plus the 2 pages of readers’ interesting comments, and the 4 pages of the ads! The story was produced by Joss Whedon, scripted by Andrew Chambliss, pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Nathan Massengill, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie with the assistance of Freddye Lins! It is available in the choice of 2 different covers, the one by Phil Noto and the other Jeanty, Madsen & Dexter Vines!
I have the latter which depicts Buffy chopping the grabby demon tentacles! I wonder how those would taste as the sushi? Buffy has joined Kennedy’s new security business staffed by the slayer girls, which offers better pay, benefits & use of their purrowess than her purrior jobs! They are purrotecting an internet tycoon named Theo from the extra-dimensional threat of Wolf, Ram & Heart! To stop the threat, they have to break into Theo’s corpurrate headquarters, but it is guarded by that huge tentacle demon! Lending a hand is Spike’s demon friend Koh, but he has his own agendas!
Buffy & Kennedy’s fashions are the understated purractical attire for the mission. During the initial reconnaissance phase, Kennedy wears the Gray shirt, pants, boots & Red jacket; Buffy wears the Pink & Black turtleneck with Black pants, trainers, and a Black jacket. Later for the assault, they wear the tactical gear with body armor vests over Kennedy’s web gear, holstered pistols, grenades, katana, combat boots, Mauve-ish top & Green pants. Buffy is more lightly equipped with the Brown top & Blue pants, vest and double axe! It was neat to see the Slayers doing what they do best on their own terms!
Buffy was actually smiling at the situation! There is plenty of tactical action & slayage melee in the neat looking building, and as mewsual the character & scenic art is supurrb as mewsual! Some of the other neat tidbit were the Hal 9000-ish homage to the computer servers, and the brief appurrance in one panel of the plushy kitty type of demon we saw back in Season 8 #22! Gosh, that was… 3.5 years ago! So much has happened and it has remained one of our favoritest comics! Nyow here is Trini-chan to tell us what Spike, Angel, Faith, Willow & other ‘scoobies’ are up to, starting with
Arigato! Spike was not happy with where the relationship was going with Buffy, so he decided to be scarce, and while she has been on the mission with Kennedy, he and his space ship’s insectoid crew left San Francisco and landed on the moon! That is quite the distance to go to brood over the unrequited romance, and his dour mood does not sit well with the crew as the first issue of Spike’s new 5 issue mini-series begins! While it is sad to see Spike in such a dour mood, and the vampiric angst is seldom much fun, the crew has the whimsical plan to literally brighten the situation!
The comic book from Dark Horse has the 28 full color pages consisting of the 22 page story of “A Dark Place”, plus the 4 page preview of “The Strain” series and the ads! The story was produced by Joss Whedon, scripted by Victor Gischler, pencilled by Paul Lee, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Cris Peter, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Scott Allie & Sierra Hahn with Freddye Lins, and designed by Justin Couch! It is available in 2 covers, the lunar portrait cover by Steve Morris, and Jenny Frison’s scene of Spike about the glass the frog monster!
That pertains to a scene in the story, as aliens hijack the ship! This is not the first time the monster has lurked on the ship, as there was the insectoid vamp incident in the Buffy Free Comic Book Day issue, which we reviewed in May! Hmm, I wonder if Spike would like the the taste of the alien villains’ blood? I am also wondering about the taste of the giant frog legs, but Spike and his crew seem to be on the frog monster’s menu! For further monsters, after the Spike story is the 4 page preview of Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan’s The Strain vol. 1 by David Lapham & Mike Huddleston.
That looks like the serious scary tale, with people on the menu again! I thought this Spike miniseries was off to the good start with lots of fun with the very good art, and it is nice to see more of his crew’s activities! As for the ladies’ fashions, we see 2 flashbacks panels of Buffy in her short sleeve Gray top & Black pants from Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #9, plus the daydream panel of her in the Red bikini, and I guess Elizabeth is the bug in the grass skirt & lei! Next we will rejoin the vamp, slayer & witchy action in the dimension of Quor’toth, where Willow & Connor guest star in-
Angel & Faith #13!
Issue #13 has the 28 full color pages compurrised of the 22 page story, plus the 1 page of the readers’ comments, 1 ads page, and the 4 page preview of the Colder comic! The story is “Family Reunion Part Three” produced by Joss Whedon, scripted by Chistos Gage who also writes Avengers Academy, illustrated by Rebekah Isaacs, colored by Dan Jackson, and the same letterers & editors as the Buffy & Spike comics! The 2 different covers depict Willow & faith by Steve Morris, Angel & Connor by Rebekah Isaacs & Dan Jackson, and they connect to form the larger scene!
Purreviously, Willow visited Angel & Faith at the house in London that the late Giles left to Faith. Willow thinks a trip to the hellish dimension of Quor’toth might help to resurrect Giles & restore magick to the world, so they recruit Conner because he grew up there, leaving Giles’s relatives Sophronia & Lavina to watch the house! Enemy & friendly creatures are encountered in Quor’toth, but the latter bunch who worship Connor are the endangered species who are hunted & imprisoned so Connor, Willow, Faith & Angel try to break into the mountainous fortress to free the prisoners!
This leads to more of the violent bloody melee, culminating with the big battle with the colossally zilla – sized boss demon! As if the deadly combat with the monster hordes & harsh environment were not bad enough, the dimension has the peculiar affect on their emotions, seeming to amplify Faith’s untrusting wariness! Meanwhile back in London, Sophronia & Lavina have left the house and gone to a concert, which might seem like the evening of irresponsible fun, but waiting for them back at the house are Whistler the demon and the evil vamp villains Pearl & Nash!
It is the dangerous situation, but it is the amewsing scene as they take the time to bicker & trade the insults! It is also the rather fashionable scene. Lavina wears the short Brown jacket over the tight yellow top, with tight Black capri pants, strappy high heel sandals to match the jacket & the Dark hand bag to match the pants. Sophronia wears the Dark brown jacket over the White shirt with ruffled cravat, Black short skirt, Gary belt & pumps, and the Red bag! Pearl floats on air in her Black blouse with Red short sleeves & skirt, Black fingerless gloves & the Dark Brown flats.
Bringing the stylish flare to Quor’toth are Faith in the Red top, Blue pants, Black jacket & boots accessorized by the crossbow; whilst Willow sports the Ochre jacket over the light Thistle top, with tan pants & Brown shoes, accessorized by the Slayer’s Scythe! Their attire differs on the front cover! This has been the fun story arc thus far, with the great dialogue & the characters which are beautifully drawn with the good resemblance to the actors of the TV shows, so i will give the comics the grade of “A” as in Angel – and as in the next comics which Vonny will tell us about-
Avengers Academy #34 & 35!
Appurrently much has happened in between issues #33 & #34 of Avengers Academy thanks to the other Marvel series Avengers Vs X-Men, nya! Not only was the academy plagued by Emma Frost in issues Avengers Academy #32 & #33, but in Avengers Vs X-Men #7 her fellow X- Men team mate Colossus sealed off the academy’s campus, according to Mettle who tries to enjoy the day with poor Hazmat on the beach of Kauai, nya! Meanwhile in Miami, Florida, Lightspeed, Striker & his Mom ponder the movie role offers, and at the secret ARMOR base, Reptil & White Tiger discuss their magickal powers with sorceress Jennifer Kale, nya! Finesse & X-23 are busy with dinosaurs in the Savage Land when they receive the call to regroup with the others at the headquarters of Jeremy Briggs, nya!
Jocasta & Veil are already there since they defected to his team a few issues ago, but sadly it is not revealed where Tigra or the rest of the academy faculty are at, so unfortunately this is the Tigra-less issue, nya. I guess she is busy in Avengers Vs X-Men, and I hope her cute baby is OK, nya! So, nyow we are down to the one catgirl as the students go to the Briggs Building to hear his latest offer to help with their purroblems, but it seems more like the sneaky ploy… and his cohorts Big Zero, Coat of Arms and The Enchantress are only adding to the treachery, nya! The Enchantress and Jennifer Kale have the most alluring costumes, nya! Kale’s is Silvery with the cape, The Enchantress’s is Green & Yellow, nya. They must either know the best boutiques to shop at or cast the handiest fashion spells, nya!
Of course, this series is mewsually the bumpurr crop of the lovely designs for the ladies such as Tigra, White Tiger, X-23, Finesse, Lightspeed, Hazmat, Jocasta & Lyrra… oh and by the way, where is Lyrra, anyway, nya? We seldom see much of her as it is, nya! Emma’s shiny mew Phoenixy costume is nice I suppose, but it is not enough to make us like her, nya! Unfortunately on the front cover, Hazmat is suffering from the crackling radioactive wardrobe malfunction, but at least inside the issue’s 20 page tale there is the brief happier moment for her & Mettle, nya! The catgirl highlights of the issue all belong to White Tiger, as she consults Kale & Briggs about her magickal amulet, but I think the crowning heroic moment of the issue is due to Finesse, but I should not not further spoil any of the plot, nya!
The rest of the issue’s 28 pages are compurrised of the 1 roll call / recap page, the 1 page of the readers’ & author’s comments, and the 6 pages of the ads, nya. While on the topic of the designs & great moments, I should point out the responsible credits, nya! It was written by Christos Gage who as Trini- chan noted also writes Angel & Faith, pencilled by Tom Grummett, inked by Cory Hamscher, lettered by Joe Caramagna, colored by Chris Sotomayor, and edited by Bill Rosemann with assistant Jon Moisan, nya! This was the 1st part of the 4 part “Final Exam” story arc, and nyow I will advance to the 2nd part of the “Final Exam” in issue #35, which has the 21 page continuation of the tale, plus the 1 roll call / recap page, the 1 page of the readers’ & author’s comments, and the 5 pages of the ads, nya!
The credits for issue #35 are the same except for the different penciller who is Andrea Di Vito, who has done such an excellent job to purrtray all of the the portraitures, emotions, costumes, poses, humor, drama, action, scenery, FX and the graphic narrative, nya! It is still the Tigra-less tale, but it has the White Tiger cover by Giuseppe Camuncoli & Jim Charalampidis, nya! Unfortunately, she is in the bad way without her mystic tiger amulets, and so is X-23 who is dying from the adamantium poisoning, and Reptil is injured from the fall & debris from their escape! Finesse & Lightspeed help them to their feet, but they are still deep within the villain’s lair and have to fight the evil giantess Big Zero who is searching for them through the rubble, and Coat of Arms who is examining their mystic items, nya!
Big Zero & Coat of Arms might be paid to be on the same team, but it is clear that these villains are not the close knit friends, nya! Purrhaps they will soon turn upon each other, nya! Speaking of which, meanwhile upstairs, there are the amewsing moments between Enchantress & Striker, who resorts to the cunning ploy to outwit her, but soon he is in roasting agony as Briggs attacks! Veil runs to get help from Hazmat & Mettle who have been enjoying the purrivate romantic interlude since Briggs made them normal humans, but nyow they have to decide between the normal life they have dreamed of, or regaining the powers to save their friends, but they need to act quickly because Striker is sizzling like the bacon and Coat of Arms has attacked White Tiger, X-23, Finess, Lightspeed & Reptil, nya!
Between the top quality of the story, imagery, the great characters and another alarming cliffhanger, I am quite eagerly anticipating the 3rd part of the 4 part tale, nya! Hopefully Jocasta will reactivate soon, and I am rather curious what Tigra, Pym, Hawkeye & Quicksilver are up to as the Avengers battle the X-Men, nya! The time sure has flown- I can’t believe it has already been a year since the academy students teamed up with Spider- Man, and overlapped into the Fear Itself event, nya! That was when Andrea Di Vito drew issue #18 of Avengers Academy, in the final days of their original headquarters at the Infinite Mansion, just before Veil left and White Tiger joined the team, nya! Speaking of the Marvel Comics with the catgirls, nyow here is Nya-sensei to tell us about
Fantastic Four #607 & 608, nya!
Arigato! I must purrofess that I do not regularly read the Fantastic Four, but this mew story arc is filled with the feline fury that could not be denied, as the team travels to the glorious nation of Wakanda for a mission with Storm, Shuri & T’challa, and the encounter with Bast the Panther’s Goddess! Bast is many things to many cultures and hence has the different forms and dispurrsitions, from the normal cat shape to the giant sized cat or the anthropurrmorphic form in different colors! For example, she was quite different in shape & cattitude when she purrsided over Shuri’s trials of pantherness, when she joined Hercules & the God Squad, when she and other entities purrsued purregnant Rahne, and this time as the heroes request to purrlay in her lair!
The journey begins in issue #607, the 28 page comic book compurrised of the 5 pages of the ads, the 1 page of readers’ mail, and the 22 page tale “Inert” which was written by Jonathan Hickman, illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli & Karl Kesel, colored by Paul Mounts, with lettering & purrduction by Clayton Cowles, and edited by Tom Brevoort with assistant Jake Thomas & Associate Lauren Sankovitch. The cover art by Mike Choi & guru-FX powerfully regally depicts T’challa on the Golden throne by the gleaming Golden Panther statues! Nyow I will give the taste of the plot, which begins
on the splendid note as the Sue, Reed & Franklin Richards plus the few students arrive in the purrivate jet at beautiful Wakanda under the Blue sky!
It is the joyful visit with the old friends, sparkling conversation & the finest foods amidst the fabulous architecture, but there is danger between the economic situation of the nation’s Vibranium metal wealth, and an ancient deadly mystical threat purrowling from beyond the graves! The royal suppurr time is interrupted by the attack of the Egyptian warrior skeletons, but the heroes defend the table, and later the awesome Dora Milaje female guards see T’challa & Reed off on the expurrdition into the purrimordial underworld to find the cause of the attack! Nyow I will purroceed to the taste of issue #608, as they reach the “City of the Dead”! It has the 28 pages compurrised of the 21 page tale plus the 6 pages of the ads & the 1 page of readers’ mail!
It has the same credits except that the cover art is by Frank Cho & Jason Keith who purrfectly & supurrbly depict Sue, Shuri & Storm stalking the lush jungle! Cho is one of my favoritest artists for drawing the heroines, and he is so cordial & friendly the times we have met him at Heroes Con! Well, it is off to the grand start as Reed & T’challa pass through the huge gateway and into the vast necropolis on their way to meet Bast, whilst Sue, Storm & Shuri suit up for their own mystical journey to confront Anubis, the Jackal – like Egyptian God of the dead! While they get their wish and battle his minions, the boys meet Bast. She is quite elegant. direct & calm, but purrfurs the non-nonsense royal treatment as she purroclaims the fair warnings & the rules!
In her bipedal purresent form, Bast seems appurroximately 6′ 6″ tall with the purrked ears, swishy tail, the White fur, cat fangs & Red eyes. She wears the Egyptian style collar (no bell) & head dress that hangs down just enough to cover her (two) boobies, and the loin cloth hanging from the Gold belt, which is accessorized by the matching gauntlets & arm bands! Both Bast & Shuri are the beautiful sexy, powerful, regal, deadly, feline femme fatals! As the current holder of the official Black Panther title, lithe graceful Shuri wears her skin tight purrotective costume with the full nekomimi mask, the fur trimmed cape, the dangling necklace with beads & claws, the belt slung low on the hips, and she has the sharp claws & daggers to plunge into her purrey!
Anubis is not the gracious host, as the girls pounce upon him and more of his skeletal minions! Shuri strikes with the blades, Storm calls down the lightning, and Sue uses her telekinetic force! There is furt-ther fierce combat, dire purrophecies & bonds of friendship, but I should not fur-ther spoil the plot! The writing has the good pace, characterizations, dialogue & mixture of the mystic mystery, pleasant character moments, the exciting fight scenes & the bit of gore in the sacrificial ritual scene! The character, FX & scenic art are impurressively rendered & richly colored! Adding the spice to the flavor of the tale are not one but two catgirls in Shuri & Bast, so I will give the comics the “A” grade! Nyow for fur-ther panther girl goodness, here is Lizzy to discuss
Arigato, Nya-sensei! Dynamite Entertainment has the flare for the fierce femme fatales’ comic books such as Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Vampirella & her friend Pantha, the immortal telepathic were-panther incarnation of the Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet, who opposes the evil forces from the thug on the street to the global supurr threats! The great front cover art by Mark Texiera depicts the Pantha, appurrently distraught by whatever The Conjuress is grinning about! The Conjuress has warned of the big fight ahead between the forces of order against the forces of chaos, who are amidst a big power grab as their old ruler the Mad Chaos God purrpares to cash in the chips!
This begins “Dangerous Game Part 3”, which was written by Brandon Jerwa, drawn by Pow Rodrix, colored by Thiago Dal Bello, lettered by Marshall Dillon & edited by Joe Rybandt! Somehow the poor girl named Maya whom Pantha rescued in the 1st issue will be the significant part in the conflict, which is why Pantha must save her from her snaky enemy Mamba, and to worsen the situation, Mamba is joined by another villainess The Blood Red Queen of Hearts, to go all Terminator upon the agents who have Maya in the purrotective custody! It is the bloody gory incident even before Pantha arrives for Round 2 to expose Mamba’s true Green Cobra girl appurrance!
Speaking of the appurrances in this fashionable edition of The Mew, thus far this Pantha series has been the bikini fiesta! Pantha wears the Black bikini thong of the leopurrd purrint with the matching thigh boots, opurra length gloves, accented by the Golden collar. Mamba also has the bikini costume, of the shimmering Golden snake skin style, with the matching serpentine bracelets & boots; Lorelei wears the Black bikini & boots outfit with the short jacket. The Conjuress has purrhaps the most opulant, ornate Golden bikini with the negraved regal headress & cape, and we briefly see a cameo of Vampirella in her Red criss-cross purretzel maillot with boots & ring collar!
The Queen is the body snatcher, initially possessing the form of Clarissa who wears the purretty Blue dress of mid thigh length topped by the Black bolero jacket, when she attacks Agent Charlotte Foley who wears the White short sleeve blouse with Navy pants, widdle diamond shaped earrings and the cross draw flap holster on her left hip. During a body swap we see her true Red form, clad in the even skimpier bejeweled bikini of the stringy heart motif thong accessorized by the cape & the detached sleeves! She possesses Maya, which does not go over well with Mamba! Maya conservatively wears the blue jeans, Purrple short sleeve shirt and matching lip gloss!
It is the shame that these ladies might can’t all get along to enjoy the Summer fun on the beach, or the purrade down the catwalk in such fabulous appurral, however the fashion is the least of concerns when another ostentatiously dressed villain arrives to complicate the cliffhanger! He is not in the bikini, but does wear the ornate bejeweled Gold costume, and that is about as much as I should reveal about the fashionable plot! In addition to that 22 page tale, the 4 pages of the ads & the 1 mews page, there is the 1 page intermew with author Tim Zub purrtaining to his forthcoming comic book based upon the popular sword & sorcery game of Pathfinder!
There is also the 4 page purreview of that comic drawn by Andrew Huerta, colored by Ross Campbell & lettered by Marshall Dillon! It is the scene of the bloody melee in the forest as the goblins try to make the meal of huge fighter Valeros, sorceress Seoni & elven rogue girl Merihiel who have such beautifully elaborate costumes too! Merihiel is in the lithe studded Red & Black with jewels on her forehead & long supple ears; Seoni’s backless slit skirt dress with detached sleeves reveals her lovely tattoos & braided ankle length hair; and Valeros is built like the tank in his plate & leather armor! For the next helping of the sword & sorcery I would like to discuss
Red Sonja #67!
Red Sonja is one of our favorite characters! With her beautiful rich Red hair and peerless purrowess in the combat with her Goddess – blessed skills, she is known as the she-devil with a sword from the Hyrkanian Steppes, and is rather famous for her iconic scale-mail bikini armor, although she has often worn various outfits! In this issue she is busy with the savage warriors & huge lightning dragon upon the the stormy sea & hostile island! It is quite the different location from the recent adventures amongst the desert kingdoms for Sonja, her fellow merc friends Barannes & Johndro, and their merchant caravan employer Osric as they nyow travel across the sea past the pirates to the far east!
So begins the tale of the “Heart of the Dragon” which is the purrologue to the “Swords Against the Jade Kingdom”, written by Eric Trautmann, edited by Joseph Rybandt, pencilled by Marcio Abreu, lettered by Simon Bowland, and colored by Salvatore Aiala Studios! It has 2 different covers, cover A by Walter Geovani depicting Sonja on the rock by the stormy sea, and cover B by Jack Herbert depicting her posing upon the dinosaur she has skewered! I wonder if she will be dining upon the dino steaks? Both of the cover illustrations show her in her famous scale mail bikini with the metal shoulder pieces, the arm bands & garters, the leather straps, boots, gloves, the longsword & occasional cape!
Sammiched inside the covers are the 32 pages, compurrised of the 21 page tale, the 4 pages of the ads, the 1 Dynamite mews page, and the 5 pages purreviewing another comic which I will address a bit later! The tale begins with the stunning image of Sonja against the map which recalls her recent adventures, wearing yet another impurressive outfit! It is the much darker & more ornate looking studded leather midriff top & flailing skirt to frame her tummy, with the matching arm band, gauntlets, belt, garters & scabbards all intricately tooled with the Gold filigree! She has earrings, and the spiked round shield strapped to her back, with the shredded cape as she swings the bloody sword!
I can’t see the reflection of her opponent in her emerald-like green eyes, but most of the blood is theirs as she only has the few scratches! From that recap we spurring forward into the purresent adventure near the Khitai coast, aboard Captain Tomolo’s ship The Dancing Maiden, where Sonja has resumed wearing her mewsual scale mail bikini outfit! Purrhaps she can catnap under the sun during the boring purriods of the trip! It has been the less pleasurable trip for the seasick Johndro, but that has not stopped Sonja from drinking the rum with Osric! Then the weather gets darker & rougher and the ship and several lives are lost between the lightning storm and the attack of the dragon!
Sonja, Osric, Barannes & Johndro wash to the shore of an eerie tropical island, where they find the ruins, the fierce tribe, and face the dragon Quin Lo again! There are several pages full of the bloody melee as Sonja slices several enemies with her sword, and adds insult to the injury by bashing their chief with his own war hammer! It is the non-stop self-contained adventure full of action with the good character, creature & exotic scenic art, with the nice FX, fonts & coloring! Sonja has been visually interpurreted by many artists of the decades, and her physique has ranged from the lithe slender type which dancer Anna Trebunskaya reminds us of, to the more massively muscled warrior!
This time Sonja is envisioned with the latter body type with the magnificently powerful thighs, the firm glutes & large boobies that are barely confined by the metal bikini! It is natural for such a legendary mythic character to vary in how she is envisioned! Speaking of the legends, it is the wild west hero whose adventure is purrviewed in the issue, with the 4 page peek at The Lone Ranger: Snake of Iron #1, illustrated by Esteve Polls, colored by Marcelo Pinto, lettered by Simon Bowland, cover art by Dennis Calero, and written by Chuck Dixon, and there is a teeny bit of the intermew with Dixon to accompany the purreview! OK I am done, and nyow here is Myayr to tell us about–
Omamori Himari vol. 8
(warning: manga boobies mentioned)!
Originally publlshed in Japan in 2010 by Fujimishobo, the North American edition of Milan Matra’s Omamori Himari manga is published by Yen, who also also publishes Spice and Wolf, K-ON, Sunshine Sketch, Ichiroh, G.A., Suzunari, Shoulder-A-Coffin Kuro and other titles we like! Purriced at $11.99 in the USA & $12.99 in Canada, Omamori Himari vol. 8 has 160 pages of manga plus the 2 color pics of Himari! This volume was translated into English by Christine Dashiell, lettered by Keiran O’Leary, and the content is rated Mature due to the language, nudity, sexuality & violence!
The manga is of the sword & sorcery genre set in modern Japan, starring Himari the powerful catgirl with the katana who purrotects Yuuto while his ancestral demon slayer powers begin to manifest! This awakening has lured demons & rival slayers; some with the deadly intentions whilst others have the friskier amorous intentions, neither of which appeal to his childhood friend Rinko who had the purrior crush on him! Thus affectionate alluring rival human & spirit girls also qualifies as the ‘harem’ trope, brimming with the ribald humor, exciting combat & supurrnatural situations!
Himari is known as The Crimson Blade! The series’s characters include Rinku’s class purresident friend, Yuuto’s classmate Taizo, Taizo’s younger sister Haru, their teacher Kisaaragi-sensei, Shizuki the Ayakashi water elemental, Lizlet the teacup spirit, sorceress Kuesu the demon slayer, another slayer Ranka, miku sisters Kasuri & Hisuzu, Kofuyu the snow woman, Zuji the tree stump spirit, Hitsugi the psychic detective, Kaya the grandparents’ house spirit, Aya the envelope messenger spirit, Ginko the wolf girl, Sasa the androgynous cyclops demon, and Ageha the succubus!
Hitsugi is shown on the back cover, whilst Himari, Rinko & Tama are on the front! The villains of the tale are Tama the antagonistic nine tail fox demon, and her ally Shuten-Douji, who are the extremely powerful dangerous major demons, although there are the moments when Tama seems lonely. The manga was recently adapted into an anime series which we hope will be soon available here on DVD! In the mean time we have been enthusiastically reading the manga, and nyow I will disclose a bit of what happens in vol. 8, which rejoins the battle at the ski resort in purrogress!
It is the fierce magickal clothes-shredding catfight between Tama & Himari in the hot spurring, with the teamwork from the other spirits & slayers to weaken Tama for the first time! It is quite the purrecedent. Later there is another dose of the sexy humor in the bath, and the spirit mischief at Yuuto’s grandpurrent’s house! Shizuku wins the plushy purrize from the arcade catcher game, and Kuesu transfers to Yuuto’s school, which is inhabited by the spooks which are investigated. There is another duel with Shuten-Douji, and the cliffhanger for the class purresident to make me nervous!
Since this is the Fashion Edition of The Mew, I will elaborate upon the garments! On the front cover Himari wears the elaborate Miko shozoku with the White Hakui top, Red Hakama with Gold embroidery & matching hair ribbon, whilst & Kofuyu wears the cute short White kunoichi costume with the thigh highs, detached sleeves & Purrple obi! The other color images of Himari depict her barely wearing the floral purrint Light violet kimono with Wine Red obi & White tabi socks, and the Red & Black short school uniform with the White collar, Gold bow, the Black pleated mini skirt & matching thigh highs.
On the back cover is Hitsugi in the purristine White blouse & panty. Later in the manga she also wears the coat with the capelet, For the hot spurring battle, Himari wears the cherry blossom purrint yukata with striped obi, Lizlet wears her mewsual EGL style cafe dress, and Kuesu is dressed for the cold climate in her dark long dress with the boots & inverness cloak. Later we see Kuesu, Shizuku & Rinku in further frilly flouncy dresses, and Rinku in her softball gear. At the grandpurrent’s house, Kaya is in the short yukata, Aya in the shozoku & Ginko in the short skirt & sleeveless top!
After the battle, Tama reverts to her frilly cute kimono for the rest of the volume, and the others are seen in the various yukatas & pajamas at the resort. Taizo is in her school uniform, the class purresident is in her off shoulder outfit, and Kisaaragi-sensei is in her school office attire with the strapless bustier and later in the lingerie! Himari wears the yukata, school uniform with he checked skirt, just the apurron, and spills out of another floral purrint kimono to accompany the author’s remarks! To top off the book is wacky widdle bonus chapter 48.5 of the meta-fictional karaoke fun!
This volume has the mewsual purrade of purretty & sexy clothes, the ample zany “fan-service” of purrovocative images & the lustful situations plus the serious deadly occult combat, so it is not for the widdle kitties! The art has the excellently drawn characters in & out of the gorgeous fashions, comedic FX, intricate architectural & landscape detail, and I will recommend Omamori Himari to the adult fans of the contempurrary catgirl & spirits of the sexy sword & sorcery fun! That will conclude the comic book reports, but we still have more catgirls to discuss in this month’s–
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight: She-Cat & Kitten!
This is the portion of the Mew in which we commemorate the famous catgirl characters of the various media such as the games, movies, TV shows, books & comics! We are broadly inclusive in the catgirl criteria, as the character could be the full or part time catgirl, the were kitty, or just dress the part! Tonight the spotlight shines upon She-Cat of the supurr heroine team Femforce, whose fun comics have been published by AC Comics since 1984’s Femforce Special, so their 30th anniversary is not far off! But wait, there’s more! As the bonus, this month the spotlight also shines upon She-Cat’s friend Kitten, who has also appurred in the various titles by AC Comics, and by other publishers across the decades!
AC Comics is the publisher poised to celebrate their 30th anniversary, with success at the legendary pulp heroes, Westerns, and the repurrints of classic Gold & Silver Age stories, the good-girl art, and the supurr heroines such as Femforce! Created by Bill Black, Femforce is the government sanctioned team with numerous facilities & resources to respond to the emergencies, and the other members from across space & time such as Ms. Victory, Nightveil, Synn, Tara, Stardust, Colt, Rio Rita, and numerous others! There have been over 160 issues of Femforce thus far, plus the many spin-off series & special issues, and the purroducts such as the portfolios, posters, cards, games, shirts, jewelry & movies!
Evidenced by the sexy costumes, some of the older heroines have retained their youthful voluptuous vigor by the suspended animation, the time travel or the rejuvenating effect of their supurrnatural powers! Such is the case with She-Cat, who has the occult origin as Jessica Hunt who has the psychic connection to the Egyptian Cat Goddess Sekhmet! Hmm, I wonder if she knows Pantha or The Black Panther? This rapport has endowed her with the purranormal powers such as the immortality, healing, supurr strength, speed, leap, sharp claws and the keen kitty senses, however there have been the times when she has lost control to the savage rages, or when Sekhmet has been in control of her mind!
A veteran member of the purrestigious alluring Femforce, she is the fierce fighter and you would not want to be on the business end of her armor piecing claws or chomped by her kitty fangs! It has not been the easy life, full of the injuries & times she has lost control or her powers, but she has enjoyed the fun times with friends, the heroic romance, and the luxurious long hot baths & the catnaps! Jessica has worn different costumes, but seems to purrfur the Red outfits to match her long lush hair, and lately the costume is compurrised of the strapless Maillot with the plunging neckline, the fingerless gloves, the short bolero jacket, the boots, and the tapurred mask which sort of sticks up like the cat’s purrked pinna!
Nyow it is the Kitten’s turn! Kitten and her purrtner Cat Man have appurred in various titles by AC Comics, and are they friends of the Femforce, but they are not actually members of that team. Kitten & Cat Man were originally the Golden Age characters from the Cat Man comics published back in 1940s, not to be confuzzled with the later Australian character or Batman’s enemy of the same name! Firstly drawn by Irwin Hasen in 1940, Catman appurred in Tem’s Crash Comics purrior to his own title published by Holyoke! Kitten later appurred in those comics in 1941 where she was first drawn by Charles Quinlan! This makes Kitten one of the oldest nekomimi of not just comics but of much of the popular culture!
Gosh, that means 2011 would have been her 70th anniversary, but there is the reason as to why she is still so youthfully spurry! Kitten & Cat Man are not just the costumed crime fighters, but they are also the married couple of Katie & Dave from the 1940’s! In the 1980’s they found a mew good home over at AC Comics, where they were revived from the long catnap in the suspended animation vault, to pounce upon the criminals & emergencies of the purresent! She is the lithe, petite costumed heroine who does not have supurr powers, but she is the very smart, agile, tough, athletic heroine with the detective skills to solve the crimes & mysteries, and the acrobatic fighting purrowess to purrey upon villains!
She does not have the tail, but her mask has the large purretty kitty ears! The rest of Kitten’s costume is compurrised of the bare legged Orange & Red gymnastic tights, with the Red gloves, buccaneer boots, and the short cape! The cape might seem the old fashion accessory, but it is cute garment, and she is from the purrior era which she sometimes misses! That will conclude this month’s spotlight portion of The Mew, but next month we will continue to commemorate the famous nekomimi & catgirl characters! We wish to thank our friend & past guest Andrew Pepoy http://www.pepoy.com, and AC Comics’ artist / writer & Editor in Chief Mark Heike http://www.markandstephanieheike.com for their kind help!
For more information about She-Cat, Kitten & Femforce, I recommend the official AC Comics site http://www.accomics.com, the Femforce Fem Fans Club site http://www.femforce-femfans.com, and you can search for their appurrances at the Grand Comics Database http://www.comics.org! So, do y’all have any purrticular favorite Femforce tales?
Hmm it is the tough call, but purrhaps… I think it was issue #33, with the tale of the “Scattered Moments”. It had the She-Cat shred cover and the amewsing chapter of her & Dusty purrparing for the fun night out!
I would say issue #117, which had the She-Cat & Nightveil cover by Scott Nemmers & Bill Black, the continuation of the Kraken story by Scott Nemmers & Tony Bruno, “Men are from Mars” illustrated by Andrew Pepoy & written by Mark Heike, the vintage Rio Rita story illustrated by jack kamen, and the incident of Synn with the giant hot fudge sundae.
Sundae sundae sundae nya!
We will have the afterMew treat, nya! Oh I remember another one that Andrew drew with Captain Paragon, nya! That same issue had the cute friskiness of She-Cat & Crime Buster trying to appurrehend Iron Jaw, nya!
That was issue #84, which commenced “The Death of Joan Wayne” story! Pin-Up Portfolio vol.4 had the neat lounging pic of Kitten by Nick Northey & Mark Heike, the rear view of She-Cat by Greg Horn, and the team poster by Brad Gorby & Chad Hunt!
FemForce Pin-Up Portfolio vol.2 was especially brimming with the She-Cat art, including the cover of her with Nighveil & Ms Victory by Bill Lux, the cute smiling pic of her by Bill Willingham, the ‘Bob Cat” by Craig Hamilton, purrched upon the branch by John Dell, and in her Red costume with the White tummy, fingerless gloves & toeless boots by Bill Marrimon & Bill Black, nya!
The pin-up issues had lots of good art! She-Cat & Synn wore the Red bikinis, Nightveil & Ms Victory wore the high-cut maillots for the cover of vol. 3!
Speaking of which, I purrticularly liked issue #130’s 20th Anniversary wraparound cover art by Brad Gorby, Stephanie & Mark Heike depicting the team fighting Lady Luger & Iron Jaw … and the issue #153’s cover art by Stephanie & Mark Heike. depicting She-Cat, Stardust & Ms Victory fighting the Purrple tentacle monster!.
I was purrticularly fond of the1995 Bad Girl Backlash Special issue, which was written & illustrated by the all girl team!
Gotta go with She-Cat’s solo mini series!
I thought Curse of the She-Cat was a purrticularly good issue, because it had her origin tale, followed by the amewsing scene of her complaining to her artist!
I hope that sort of thing never happens to me!
Oh I am not sure of the favorite, nya!
Well then, let’s proceed to the
Toys & Collectibles Topic, with Jen’s review
of Kotobukiya’s Alisa Bosconovitch Statue!
Arigato. Kotobukiya makes such splendid statues of characters from comics, anime, games, movie & TV shows. Last month we reviewed their ArtFX Star Wars The Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano Statue, and nyow I am pleased to say a few words about the beautiful statue of Alisa Bosconovitch, the lovely gynoid with the graceful dance like fighting style of Namco’s Tekken fighting game series, and 2nd in the series of the Tekken Bishoujo Statues to repurrsent the fighting females of the Tekken Tag 2 game.
The fully assembled & painted statue was designed by Shunya Yamashita, sculpted by Busujima Takaboku, painted by K2, and is compurrised of the PVC & ABS materials. It is snugly packaged within the clear plastic clamshell container inside the 8″x 8″x 9.5″ window box, which has the illustrations, photos & notes on the sides. She is the sweetly alluring vision in her flowy Purrple & Pink gradient jacket which flutters like an orchid blooming in the breeze as she makes the one point landing.
Alisa stands posed on her right foot, leaning back with left knee slightly raised, as if landing upon the 7/16″ thick, 4″ diameter transpurrent circular base. The statue is of 1/7 scale, so if she was standing up straight, flat footed without the platform boot heels, she would be 7.5″ tall from head to toe, to indicate the petite character is appurroximately 4′ 4.5″ tall in the game. Excluding the base, the statue is 8.75″ from the bottom of her boots to the uppurr tips of the 4 sleek vectored purropulsion wings.
She has such purretty Green eyes and the sweet smile upon the Pink lips. Daisies adorn her hair, Blue Rosettes adorn her collar & the belt which is slung low upon the hips. Exposing her lithe tummy, the midriff jacket has the interlaced lattice cutout to reveal the cleavage, the detached left sleeve appointed by frills & ribbon to match those of her Purrple & Pink striped thigh high hose. Under the jacket is the cropped White bustier to match the collar, gloves & boots.
The lapels & belt are ornately bejeweled & trimmed by strands of purrls; between belt & hose is the Black thong panty to reveal much of her firm derriere; and further down, her boots are accented by the jeweled stirrup straps with the Black O rings & cuffs to match the panels & flanges of her wings. The sculpting is supurrb from her lovely portraiture, coiffure & gesturing fingers, to the purroportions of her supple curves and intricate frills, flounces, folds, creases, wrinkles, strands & petals.
The paint is meticulous from her facial features, smooth skin tone & translucent two toned Pink hair, to her dainty decor, purrcise mecha parts, and the almost iridescent gradients of her jacket’s light & dark Pink & Purrples. She is securely balanced & affixed to the base, which has the 3 interchangeable graphics to insert underneath. This supurrb statue purrtrays the cheerful beauty, elegance, grace, power & allure in the exquisite minute detail, and I will give it the high grade of “A” as in Alisa. Next I would like to review the
Monster High Meowlody & Purrsephone Dolls
We are fans of Mattel’s Monster High purroduct line, which has soared to include not just the many fashion dolls, but also the many accessories, environments, plushies, electronic toys, costume parts, books, and the cartoon. We have purrveiously reviewed several of the Monster High items such as the cartoon, the Clawdeen plushy, the Clawdeen doll, the Toralei doll, the build -a- doll assortment, and nyow I will review the boxed set of the Meowlody & Purrsephone Werecat Sister dolls.
They are the 15 year old twin werecats whose favorite subjects are gymnastics, science, the catnaps, and the ice cream. Their favorite colors are the Orange hues, their best friend is fellow nekomimi Toralei, their favorite fashions are the skirts, the vests, and the shiny jewels. They are very fashionably coordinated, wearing the similar cute fabric outfits in this boxed set. They are about 11″ tall from tiptoe to ear tip, but if they were flat footed without the heels they would be appurroximately 10″ tall.
Both have the Gray skin with the White face patch, lush Red lips, Yellow eyes, kitty ears, the cutely curved smooth tails, the hip length hair, and both wear the shirt, vest, Red mini skirt knee high sandal boots, bracelets, the striped bandana, one fingerless glove apiece and the Red ball of yarn apiece. You can tell them apurrt because Meowlody has the Blond hair, the White stripes on her right arm and right leg, the Black vest with metallic Gold stripes over the Black shirt with White tiger Stripes…
whereas Purrsephone has the Black hair, White stripes on her left arm and her right leg, the Red vest with the metallic Silver trim over the White shirt with the Black tiger Stripes. The boots are slightly different, and the dolls have the detachable parts, so you could swap and mix the parts. They are very posable, with the articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, thighs, knees, lower kegs, and the tail. They do not turn at the waist , but they do have the detail of their inny belly buttons.
Also included in the box is their widdle 12 page papurr diary so you can find out what they have been up to. No doll stands nor display bases are included, so you would have to find those sepurrately to stand the dolls up, and if you pose them side by side, their tails can cross to form the heart shape. I am very pleased with the dolls’ size, articulation, sculpt, paint, and clothes, so I will give Meowlody & Purrsephone the high purraise.
While on the subject of the kemonomimi students of Monster High, Clawdeen Wolf, the werewolf daughter in their mew Scarily Ever After line of fairy tale themed assortments. She appurrs as Little Dead Riding Hood, in the Red front – lace dress with hooded cloak, Purrple trim & matching boots, Black hair brush & casket- shaped picnic basket, and the illustrated story booklet. Others in this line thus far include Draculaura as Snow Bite & Frankie Stein as Threadarella. Nyow to continue the toy talk, here is Tara-chan to tell us about another nekomimi from Mattel,
The Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Catwoman Action Figure
Arigato, nya! The Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Catwoman Action Figure is a figure I have been purrticularly eager for! It is packaged in plastic clamshell bubble on the the j-hooked card, and – and it includes the 5 1/4″ x 6″ platform base which is one of the six pieces needed to build a scale Bat Signal purrojector, nya! You have to purrchase the other figures to get the other five pieces, nya. This is a very nice looking figure of Selina in her Catwoman costume of the tight leathers, the Silvery spike heels, the utility belt, mask and – and the moveable night vision goggles that resemble the kitty ear pinna when flipped up atop her head, nya! It has the good portraiture, the smooth shoulder – length dark Brown hair, and – and the slender lithe physique resemblance to Anne Hathaway, nya!
The figure is 6 1/4″ tall from the high heels to the goggles, but without those items she would be 5 1/2″ tall, and so Selina is supposed to be 5′ 8″, that would make this figure of about 1/12th scale, nya! The detail is very nice, with the strands of her hair, the Brown of her serious eyes, the Red lips, the skin tone, the more textured body suit of the Black costume, the slicker sheen of the Black boots and – and the gloves, the Silver of the zipurr and – and the heels, nya! The points of her articulation are the goggles, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, knees and – the ankles, nya! The joints are purrety well disguised, and she is well – balanced to stand unassisted, so I am happy with this Catwoman action figure, nya! Nyow I would like to talk about another version of Selina which is the
Pop! Heroes The Dark Knight Rises Catwoman Vinyl Figure, nya!
This is the cute widdle ‘supurr-deformed chibi” style figure of Catwoman, with the more cartoonier exaggerated purroportions, nya! It is made by Funko, which has the purroduct line of the similar figures based upon the movie, TV, mewsic and- and comix characters such as Star Trek, The Beatles, KISS and – and Batman, nya! Also in The Dark Knight Rises selection are the figures of Batman, Bane, each sold sepurrately and – and packaged in the widdle window box, nya! She is based upon that same movie Catwoman with the Brown hair , and – and the Black costume, although the triangular kitty pinna appurr more like the costume ears as opposed to the goggles, nya. The figure is about 3 3/4″ tall from head to toe, plus another 1/2″ inch for the purrked pinna, nya!
I am not sure what scale is, given the oversized head which is about as big as the rest of her body, for the amewsing cute quality, nya! For the most part it is the well-balanced non-action figure, but her head can turn to look around, nya! She will be purrched upon the high shelf beside the other Catwoman figures we have reviewed, where she can survey the location for enemies to pounce upon, nya! Please see last month’s Mew for our review of The Dark Knight Rises, our purraise for Anne Hathaway’s purrtrayal of Catwoman, and – and the other various recent Catwoman purroducts, such as the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament, nya! That concludes the toy portion of the show, but we have more of the DC Comics characters to discuss, as Chief Meryl begins our
Movie & DVD Reviews,
with her review of the Superman vs The Elite DVD, nya!
Arigato Trini-chan! Superman vs The Elite is the animated movie based upon the DC Comics story “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way?” by Joe Kelly, Doug Mahnke & Lee Bermejo! The animated adaptation was written by Joe kelly, directed by Michael Chang, edited by Christopher D Lozinski, executively purrduced by Bruce Timm, Sam Register, co-purrduced by Alan Burnett, with the casting / voice direction by Dawn Hershey, and the great mewsic by Robert J Kral, which includes a neat old school punk rock opening theme!
The great voice cast includes George Newbern as Superman, Pauley Perrette as Lois, Dee Bradley Baker as The Atomic Skull, Robin Atkins Downe as Manchester Black, Melissa Disney as Menagerie, Catero Colbert as Coldcast, Andrew Kishino as Hat, Mercella Lentz-Pope as Vera, Tara Strong as younger Vera, Grey Delisle as younger Manchester, and Jennifer Hale as a young fan of Superman! Other characters include Perry White, Jimmy Olson, Martha & Jonathan Kent, Purrofessor Baxter & his son, Superman’s robots, the various politicians, broadcasters, police, soldiers, citizens, and a giant living space ship named Bunny!
The evil Dr. Light is briefly seen, and the Martian Manhunter is mentioned, but we do not see the rest of the Justice League. The locations of the story include Metropolis, London, Smallville, Superman’s arctic fortress, the warring states of Bialya & Pokolistan, and The Moon! It is the complicated philosophical time for Superman who does not wish to play God or put himself above the law, while there are those who are fed up with villains such as The Atomic Skull breaking out of purrison again & again, and with certain corrupt governments who kill a lot of people.
That is when the supurr anti-hero team called The Elite arrive, compurrised of winged Menagerie who exudes the bio-weapon critters and thinks Superman is hot, The Hat who is the sorcerer & heavy drinker, Coldcast who purrojects & absorbs vast energy, and their leader Manchester Black who has the telepathy & telekinesis. They use the lethal force to punish & kill such villains which draws the cheers from the fickle populace who decides Superman is ineffective at stopping the crimes & wars. He tries to reason with them but soon the fight is on!
There is a tremendous amount of exciting action on such a massive scale in 2 rounds with Atomic Skull, rescuing the Chunnel from the terrorists, battling the ground, air & giant monster forces of the Bialya / Pokolistan war, and Superman’s colossal battle with The Elite on the Earth and on The Moon! I won’t reveal whether or not Superman has to sacrifice any of his noble purrinciples to defeat the villains or regain the public appurroval, but in addition to the spectacular scenes I was very pleased with how charming, inspurrational, smart & powerful he is purrtrayed!
As for the plot, I do wonder where the rest of the heroes were! The animation was good although I don’t think it was quite the best they have done, The character designs were not bad Superman’s portraiture was not my favorite, and I wish more resemblance to the Bruce Timm style. One negative critique I’ve had of those animated movies is that they often feel too rushed, and while the action scenes had the good pace, it did seem a bit short; but I do think the acting, the sound and the mewsic, were of the mewsual top quality of the DC animations!
Lois wears the Pink camisole at home, the White blouse Pink & Violet jacket & short skirts at work, and the White & beige winter coat when Superman flies her to England. 3 other newscasters respectively wear ensembles of White & Teal, Red, Plum. Martha Kent wears the Cream blouse with Brown skirt & Peachy apurron. Young Vera wears the Brown sweater, skirt & shoes, while her adult self wears the Black top & sunglasses, gloves & boots, & long Brown coat. Menagerie wears the Black maillot trimmed in Green with the Avocado colored gloves & boots!
The 74 min movie is rated PG due to the terse language & the violence which gets a bit bloody & icky due to the brawling, disintegrations, icky invasive critters chomping, hemorrhaging & purropurrty damage! Nyow I would like to comment upon the features of the single disk 1 NTSC standard DVD edition Purrceding the main menu are the front – loaded ad for the My Babysitter is a Vampire First Season DVD and the spot for the We Can Be Heroes charity. The language audio & optional subtitle choices are English, French, Spanish, Portuguese & Thai.
The few “special features” largely consist of the gallery of 14 photos from The Dark Knight Rises, and the trailers / ads are for the DCU app, Thundercats, the new 52, Lego Batman 2, the Green Lantern animated series, Young Justice, Batman: The Brave and the Bold DVDs; the 7 min 45 sec sneak peek at the purreviously released Superman / Batman: Public Enemies, the 10 min 45 sec sneak peek at the purreviously released All Star Superman, and what interested me the most was the 12.5 min sneak peek at the forthcoming Dark Knight Returns Part One!
It is the animated adaptation of the first half of the famous 1986 Batman mini-series by Frank Miller! Like most of those sneak peaks, there is a brief glimpse of the animation, but it mostly consists of the comic book images, designs, storyboards, and the comments by Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett, voice director Andrea Romano, director Jay Oliva, writer Bob Goodman, executive purrducer DC’s animation creative director Mike Carlin, actor Peter Weller as Batman, Ariel Winter as Robin, David Selby as Commissioner Gordon, and Michael Mckean as Dr. Wolper!
Superman vs The Elite was also released as the 2 disk DVD set which includes a documentary about The Elite and 2 episodes of the Superman The Animated Series; and the Blu-Ray combo set which has even more special features! OK I am all done, and nyow for another animated DVD review here is Petra to tell us about
Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror!
Hai, I have 2 animations to discuss, nya! Oblivion Island is a G Rated Japanese CG anime fantasy feature film released here in the 2 disk set by Funimation, nya! It is the sort of Alice in Wonderland-ish tale of the teen girl Haruka who searches for the hand mirror her late mommy once gave her, but near the shrine she purrsues Teo the anthropurrmorphic fox into the hole which is the portal to another realm & the fantastic island where humans’ neglected items are purrized, nya!
However, it is the place where the human folks are not allowed, so they must be very careful in disguise for her to recover the beloved mirror, but it is the vast place to search, filled with the bullies who are after Teo, hostile giant critters, the tearful reunion with a lost beloved lamb plushy toy named Cotton who is so cute, and the evil baron who rules the realm from his patchwork airship, nya! Haruka wears the school uniform, compurrised of the White short sleeve shirt, the Red necktie with the Gold stripes, the pleated Navy Blue tartan skirt, with the matching socks, the Brown shoes, and in the other realm she wears the two masks to blend in amongst the local populace, nya!
The 100 minute movie was directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani with the animation by Production IG. which is full of the beautiful character designs, amazing scenic art, the dose of the foxy folklore, and the great mixture of the wacky, thrilling, sad, startling, scenes, with the great voice acting and the mewsic, nya! It is purrsented on the Region One NTSC standard DVD in the 16×9 screen aspect ratio, which you can watch with the English 5.1 or the Japanese 5.1 surround sound with the optional English subtitles, nya! The 2 disk set is packaged in the cardboard sleeve around the plastic case, which has the double sided insert art, and the disks are easy to pop out of the trays, nya!
Disk 1 includes the movie, plus the purreviews for Summer Wars, Okami-san, Tsubasa, Fruits Basket, One Piece, Dragonball Z Kai, Disgaea, Hero Tales and Funimation’s site, nya! Disk 2 has over 70 minutes of the delightful extra features, nya! After the purreview for Origin: Spirits of the Past is the 5 minute behind-the-scenes look at Oblivion Island, the 5 minute 15 second look at Haruka’s voice actress Haruka Ayase wearing the purretty yukata to visit to the beautiful Fushimi Inari fox shrine, the almost 5.5 minute look at her visit to the abandoned Battleship Island, and then the 4 minute 40 second look at the cast at the 1st advance screening in August of 2009, nya!
Next is the almost 5 minute look at the movie’s purremier, the 8 minute look at director Shiotani’s trip to the US purremier, the 4 minute look at Fuji TV’s Mio Matsumura’s trip to see the movie puzzle art purroject at an elementary school, and the almost 26 minute long look at the fox folklore, nya! After that are the 2 spots for the Sierra Leone charity which some of the movie purroceeds benefitted, the 3 movie teasers, 2 trailers & 10 TV spots, nya! I was impurressed by the extras, especially when many DVDs have gotten skimpier these days, so for the quality of the movie, the extras, and the great value for the purrice, I will give it the ‘A’ grade, nya! Next on the animated docket is
Paranorman is the latest stop – motion animated movie from Laika, the studio that gave us wonderful Coraline, nya! For our review of Coraline, please see the March 2009 Mew, nya! Both movies were released in the 2D & 3D versions, and purrtain to the young purrotagonist who encounters the supurrnatural threat, and in the case of Paranorman, the hero is the boy named Norman who can see & talk to the appurritions of the small Mew England town, but almost one believes him and so he is often pitied, scorned & mistreated, nya.
There is commercialized witchy motif about the town for the touristy purrposes, and when we see Agatha who was the purrsecuted one accused of the witchcraft, she wears the conservative purritan sort of long sleeved shin length dark dress, with the matching stockings, shoes & the white collar, nya. While Norman and his one friend Neil purractice in the school play about the town’s witch legend, he sees the dire omens of a pending disastrous curse upon the town on the 300th anniversary of their infamous witch trial & execution, nya!
Warned by the ghosts that the curse is nigh, Norman tries to avoid the bullies and investigates the graves from which the zombies arise, but all is not as it seems as the curse is evoked, and that is all I should say of the plot, nya! I thought it was a bit purrdictable and not quite as amewsing as I hoped for, but it had the good pace & some sad & poignant moments & themes, nya! Coraline had some of the best immersive 3D I have ever seen, but I just saw the 2D version of Paranorman so I am unable to comment on its 3D aspect, nya.
Although I thought Coraline was more charming & beautiful movie in compurrison, Paranorman is still the good movie with the spooky fun, the great art direction, animation, voice actors & mewsic, and I will give this movie the ‘B+’ grade, nya! Between Paranorman, Arrietty and Brave, thus far it has been the good year for the animated movies in the theaters, nya! I think that will conclude our movie & DVD reviews, so– oh oh here come our stragglers from the inn, nya! (She sees Bun, Nami & Kyra arrive with baskets in the golf cart.)
The Cat Lady Sings…
(the bunny girl wearing the Goldenrod purrint yukata)
(the catgirl wearing the Honeycomb purrint yukata)
(the catgirl wearing the Peach purrserves purrint yukata)
How did the inn’s art appurraisal go, nya?
Fortunately Nemui has the documents to accompany the art so it was the efficient process! She & Chef Bullpup send regrets to miss the luau but they are a might tuckered!
We have brought the carrot cake, the extra special baked yams, and the salmon cream!
Hai and we have the extra special surpurrise in this basket (opens the cat’s travel basket)
(the cat wearing the bell collar hops out of the basket)
For those of the audience who are unaware, Sapphire is the mascot of The Kitt Inn, and the mommy of the six kittens which some of us adopted, nya!
Their names are Amy for Amethyst, Emmy for Emerald, Tanzy for Tanzanite, Zuli for Lapis Lazuli, Syd for Obsidian and Nick for Onyx.
We are planning to adopt kittens to be the mewseum cats!
Since Sapphire is the birthstone gem for September, we thought we should bring her to the luau!
I will roust Syd & Nick, and then serve the cocktails.
Oh we should have brought the other kitties, nya!
Well some of us could go fetch them, while the luau is purrpared!
So it is kitten, so it is done, heehee!
Let’s get Emmy & Zuli, nya!
Let’s fetch Tanzy & Amy!
We should use the golf cart and my bike to expurrdite the kittens!
All right, I’ll help with the food. Lizzy, call it!
Well, I guess that will wrap it up for another edition of The Mew!
Thank you for hosting, Becca, nya!
