Our Halloween In Review!
Mie-sensei, how were Halloween festivities in the maritime forest?
Oh, it was totally awesome! Fortunately we were spared the severity of the storm and the blessings were counted by the grateful standing room only crowd who graced our production in the grove theatre! Between the shows we had the foxfire dance & juggling, and the late night nature walk!
That was so much fun, nya! Purrk Ranger BB guided the educational expurrdition to observe some of the nocturnal creatures, but we took the purrcautions not to disturb their normal purrocesses, I have the good notes and pics for my nature journal, nya!
Hai, like the putting out the light as not to distract the the nesting sea turtles! The entertainment was combined with the education also at the mermaids’ deep dark kelp maze to benefit the sea dragons! We saw Becca & Jenjen helping there!
Hai, this was the 2nd year I volunteered at the maze! Jenjen’s Robotics Club topped themselves with the scary underwater animatronic attractions, and the hard work will help the sea dragon purrsurve!
Fortunately the weather was purrmitting for us and there were no major malfunctions, and after the shows we visited the Leafy & Weedy Sea Dragons with Lani & Tsu Tsu. Becca kept me company while I decompurressed during the ascent. We watched the live cam of the cosplay compurrtition on my pad.
Oh gosh I do not know how Jen does it with her busy schedule but I was sewing costumes up to the 11th hour!
The automation helps.
As mewsual Myayr’s costmes were purrfect, with the beautiful craftsmanship, nya!
Arigato! Everyone in our Avengers aCATamy group purrticipated in the purrocess from the purrchases, & fittings to the cutting & stitching! When we gathered for the final fittings, we went to the shrine to expurress our thankfulness for weathering the hurricane and extend our purrayers for those many folks who less fortunate amidst the cat-astrophe across the Atlantic from the Caribbean to Canada.
Um… for those who missed last month’s Mew, the ladies’ group costume theme for the annual island Trick R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl was “Avengers aCATamy” consisting of Marvel Comics’ catgirl heroines, such as Tigra, White Tiger, Black Cat, and so forth, in homage to the wonderful – but sadly soon to be cancelled – Avengers Academy comic book!
AVENGERS aCATemy ASSEMBLE, NYA!
Hai, the cosplay repurrsented Tigra, White Tiger, Felica Hardy the Black Cat, Purrincess Shuri the Black Panther, Hell Cat, Catseye, Feral, Hepzibah, and the Goddess Bast! Nya-sensei was helping at Nyo-sensei’s magick shop we purraded there to visit them before, before we went to the shrine to see our appurrentice mikos light the lanterns!
I was busy at the shop but I got to see the pics of the beautiful ceremony! Oh it was the busiest day of the year on top of the busy record week, and the students from sis’s dojo helped, not just at my shop but they helped other venders at the farmers market!
We were glad to be of service! Rica & Niko had the bumpurr crop of the nutritious fresh purroduce, the large mums, and the pumpkins! Our kitty cats Tanzy & Amy purrtrolled the market and liked to purrch upon the big pumpkins. I think they went trick r eating too!
I heard that Vonny brought the cats the treat from the fishing charter!
Hai, after the catch of the Snappurs, Stripurrs & Tunas, Tara-chan and I purrpared the nummy fishy treats for the cats, although we had to taste test them first, nya!
It is no secret why the marina gets as many trick r eaters as the market & riverwalk, heehee!
We were so glad that you were able to visit from the studies on the mainland to purrticipate in the festivities, nya!
Well, I was concerned about the weather, but honored to be asked to tell the pirate ghost stories to the widdle kitties at the library, I did not wish to miss the free sashimi from the Trick R Eat, and I was coaxed into the cosplay!
You call “Oh please oh please oh please let me please cosplay as The Black Cat” being coaxed?
Hey, I only said “Oh Please” twice, heh! Besides, I got to see the supurrb spooky art exhibit at the mewseum!
Arigato, nya! We had the bigger attendance than last year to see the macabre masterpieces of the gargoyles, appurritions, dai kaiju, yokai, and the vamps, nya! Of course I must purraise the artistic vision & hard work of Bunnii Bun and the volunteers, nya!
Oh I was just doing my job but she is so right about the volunteers, such as Tara-chan & Trini-chan, who have been the big help!
We love to help at the mewseum, nya! What else did Bun do, nya?
I enjoyed the comic books, cartoons, candy & carrot cake! That brings us back to Mike to tell us about his Halloween fun!
We got some mums & pumpkins, Iand that week I set the mood with some appropriate movies and cartoons to watch! On the day of Halloween I went to a few comics shops that participated in the Halloween Comics Fest which is sort of like Free Comic Book Day, then had supper & played trivia with friends at a restaurant, where we saw lots of great costumes!
What costumes did you see? Did you dress up too?
Yep, I wore my Star Trek II Starfleet uniform, and the other costumes I saw included Super Girl, Wonder Woman, Pippi Longstocking, a girl scout, a gold medalist, a graduate, a flapper, a tavern wench, a goddess, 3 witches, 2 mermaids, 4 faeries, a deer girl, a bunny girl, 5 catgirls, Dexstar, Raphael the Ninja Turtle, Iron Man, 2 Captain Americas, 2 Thors, 2 Aquabats, The Doctor, Indiana Jones, Charlie Chaplain, “Dumbledora”, Austin Powers’s Fat Bastard, a gorilla, and half a dozen other outfits! It was a lot of fun! But moving right along, with Halloween behind us, I understand that the islanders have a new fun Fall activity to tell us about called
Hai, in the July Mew we mentioned our fun Summer Art Literature And Mewsic Inspurration Purroject (SALAMI) which had much purrticipations, and nyow for the Autumn, the Catgirl Island Public Library has purrmoted their British Authors’ Comics, Oeuvre, Novels, Storybooks & Theatre Reading Inspurration Purroject (BACON STRIP), unless that tasty title has already been appurropurriated by someone else, nya! It is the natural title since we love to eat and read, and just in time for me to start reading JK Rowling’s mewest novel of “The Casual Vacancy,” nya! What is everyone else going to read, nya?
I am going to read more of Liz Kessler’s Emily Windsnap mermaid tales, nya!
I am going to read Leave it to Chance by author James Robinson artist Paul Smith! Oh speaking of the wonderful UK publications, thank you for letting me borrow Faeries And Enchantment (FAE) #20!
Oh that reminds me I need to return that Kate Bush book to Bun! I am looking forward to the new James Bond movie Skyfall, so I pick out an Ian Fleming novel to read!
It is not the hurry! I am going to read the Promethea series written by Alan Moore & Batwoman artist JH Williams III!
I want to see that too, and I am looking forward to The Hobbit movie, so I am going to revisit JRR Tolkein’s The Hobbit, and then maybe try to finish The Silmarillion!
I am going to lounge upon the veranda with the tea and more books about sculptor Andy Goldsworthy!
The recent Halloween fare has put me in the mood to revisit Mary Shelly’s Frankenstien, illustrated by Berni Wrightson, nya!
I plan to read Gareth Roberts’s novelization of Doctor Who: Shada: The Lost Adventure by Douglas Adams.
I will go to the library to see what novels or graphic novels they have by Neil Gamin, if they are not already checked out!
Nyo-sensei can borrow my Sandman books, while I am reading Andi Watson’s Skeleton Key series!
Arigato! Howboutchoo Mie-sensei?
I have already been reading the Shakespeare for our next play at the forest grove theatre, but I want to read the late Elizabeth Sladen’s biography, and the latest volume of the Sarah Jane Adventures Companion!
I found a great book about FX genius Derek Meddings, and I want to read the biography of one of my favorite actors, Roger Moore!
Jenjen has loaned me her copy of Two-Step, by Warren Ellis, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner!
Yay Amanda Conner, nya! I will be reviewing her Ame-Comi Girls comic later in The Mew, nya! I will find out what some of the others are going to read, and we need to get the good start, because the Library plans another purroject with the meaty acronym for the Winter season, but nyow it is time for
The Lightning Round Topic of Our Favorite Famous Female Fashions of Films, nya!
Yep! The Lightning Round is meant to be the fast paced topic with brief responses, but sometimes we pick the immense topic needing lengthier attention, and that’s definite the case with this fashion topic! We started it in September, with Our Favorite Female Fashions of LIve – Action TV Shows… except for Star Trek, which was big enough to be a topic unto itself in last month’s Mew! That included the Star Trek TV shows & movies, so this month we will continue with our favorite famous female fashions of all other movies! This is just about the clothes, not the actresses, characters or movies, and this might be the tall order, given how many beautiful clothes there have been in well over a century of international cinema, but we’re gonna give it a whirl! We’re just So, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?

The Ladies of The Mew:
MISS PIGGY! (the catgirls add a “nya!”)
Whew, this has been the extensive topic, but it has been tough to narrow down the purrfurred garments!
Will the fashion topic continue next month, nya?
Hai, we still have a bit more of the film fashions to cover!
After that might be the purrformers’ fashions of the theatre, mewsic, dance, the circus and the other catty-gories!
Should next month’s Lightning Round topic be the surpurrise, or could we reveal it, nya?
Mmm let us reveal it, heehee!
It is seconded, nya!
The absence of our favorite Bond Girl fashions amongst these nominees is because we are saving those for the next time catty-gory!
It will be the appurropurriate timing, since the Bond films just turned 50 last month, and next month we can include the new Bond movie!
We must purraise all of the brilliant costume designers!
the Ladies of The Mew:
DOMO ARIGATO GOZAIMASU! (the catgirls add a “nya!”)
That is good, but I we should purroceed to the next topic.
It is seconded, nya!
Hai that did take the while! What is the next portion of the show?
Ah, I believe it is time for Petra & Bun to tell us about the latest
Additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!
Hai we are purroud to purresent the latest images in the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya! If y’all are new to the mewseum, Galleries 1-6 display Mike’s illustrations & photography, whilst Guest Galleries 1 & 2 display images by other artists with their kind purrmissions of course, nya! On the web site, the most recent pics are on the bottom row of the widdle “thumbnail” portions, so just click on one to see the entire image, nya!
Firstly in Guest Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html, we are puroud to purrsent another helping of beautiful art by Elisa Chong, also known as Sofianime, who was our special guest here for the June 2011 Mew, nya! She is such a kind and wonderfully artist whose illustrations of the catgirls, mermaids, faeries, angels, vampires, heroines and other characters who are so purretty, sexy, vibrant, delicate, and ornate, nya! Here is more of the purroof, in the collage compurrised of the trio of her images, nya!
At the lower left is sexy “Katgirl Sasha” with the sultry gaze, long supple tail and lithe physique which are revealed by the Black bra, the Blue panty and the pants that match her lush Purrple hair, mew la la, nya! She was rendered with the pen & ink, Photoshop & Wacom Tablet, nya. In the sky above her at the uppurr left is the “Faerie with Blue Wings”, nya! She is so gorgeous in her strapless widdle Blue dress that reveals much thigh and matches her cellular Blue wings amongst the Cherry Blossoms in the breeze, nya!
Then at the uppurr right to meet “Mermaid Aquamarinne” who is alluring under the sea with with Emerald eyes, the endearing smile, the strapless Green and Blue coral pattern bra, the purretty Pink tail scales and the veil-like fin to match her hair, nya! Both she & the faerie were rendered with the pen & ink & watercolors, nya! To see more of Elisa’s lovely art, please visit her site http://www.sofianime.com, her blog http://sofianime.blogspot.com, & gallery at DeviantArt http://sofianime.deviantart.com, nya!
Nextly also in Guest Gallery 2 is the purrfect pic that we purrticularly hope will please Nya-sensei & Nyo-sensei, because it is the surpurrise image that Mike commissioned of the “Training Twins” by Thais Lopes http://angelofhappiness.deviantart.com, nya! Thais and her sister Natalia are the great artists & cosplayers who were among our special guests of the October 2010 Mew, nya! Gosh that was 2 years ago, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen their other images that grace our galleries, nya?
Shown here wearing their coordinated Black & White athletic bras, compurression shorts & trainers for the twin nekomimi work out, is Nya-sensei pumping the iron on the left ,and Nya-sensei casting the spell on the right, nya! It would be hard for some folks to tell them apart, and there have been the confuzzling incidents in the past, because they are the identical 6’2″ tall Libra twins born on September 31st, with the Brown hair, Green eyes, the A+ blood type, and the same bra cup size, nya!
They also have the 2 sister cats Tanzy which is short for Tanzanite, and Amy which is short for Amethyst, nya! However, there are the ways to tell them apart, because Nya-sensei is the jujutsu champ often at her dojo, whereas Nyo-sensei is the occult expurrt often at her magick shop, nya. Also, Nya-sensei has the shorter hair, whilst Nyo-sensei has the piercings, nya! Nyow I will hand The Mew back to Bun to purrsent the additions to Gallery 6 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery6.html, nya!
Hai! In Gallery 6 is Mike’s pic of “Moonsinger”, the widdle wolf girl in human form as the protagonist star of Sharon William’s latest serialized prose fantasy tale Okami No Hime! Sharon’s prior original tales of the young heroines include The Dark Fires of Cyphyrus, Osiris Rising, An Angel’s Prayer; and the Sailor Sirius fan-fiction based upon Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon! Perhaps y’all have seen Mike’s prior pics of her characters? Tari of Osiris Rising was our guest in October 2008!
Moonsinger survived the evil attack upon her pack at her home world to wind up in human form at Long Island where she was befriended by a lad named Conner who calls her Luna and gave her the shelter & clothes! For this Photoshop & mouse illustration, Mike thought it would be appurropurriate if her shirt had the emblem of Long Island’s Stony Brook University Sea Wolves, and imagined the happy supper scene of the natural foods that wolf grrl could easily identify and digest!
The menu to perk her spirit & fill her tummy includes the fresh milk, pork ribs, cornish hen, trout filet, mushroooms, and the bowl of strawberries with honey for dessert! To read Sharon’s tales or to see more art of her characters by various artists, visit her web site http://sailorsirius.webs.com for Sailor Sirius, Dark Fires of Cyphyrus and Osiris Rising, and visit her gallery at DeviantArt http://rose74.deviantart.com for more art, and the tales of An Angel’s Prayer, Osiris Rising and Okami no Hime!
Also new in Gallery 6 is Mike’s fan art of “Lt. Cmdr. M’Ress, Stardate 7421.2!” Lt. M’ress was introduced in the 1973 animated Star Trek series to our delight as a Communications Officer of the Starship Enterprise when Lt. Uhura wasn’t on The Bridge! M’Ress is of the felinoid Caitian species, her tranquil purring voice provided by actress Majel Barret! The animated series theoretically occurrs in the year 2269, but sadly it isn’t officially considered part of the canonical Star Trek continuity.
However, in this fan art, she has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and wears the later style of Starfleet uniform shirt circa 2271, as seen in Mike’s all-time favoritest movie, Star Trek – The Motion Picture! The uniform’s pants seem to be missing, but fortunately the shirt tail is long enough for the discretion, and I guess it is not that much shorter than her prior Red skirt uniform! Mike used Photoshop & the mouse to color the scanned, inked pencil drawing of M’Ress!
The stardate is significant because it is when in the movie Admiral Kirk gathered the crew of over 400 heroes at 4 am on the big Recreation Deck before they launched on the intercept mission! We wish to think that M’Ress was in that big crowd after her catnap & breakfast, ready to pounce upon the mysterious intergalactic intruder! It was just the matter of time before Mike drew our favorite Trek catgirl in an outfit from the movie which he tends to praise with the least little provocation! Star Trek is © Paramount Pictures Corporation, and that will conclude the presentation of the new art! So how do Nyo-sensei & Nya-sensei like Thais’s pic?
Nyoka & Nyanko:
WE’RE NOT WORTHY, NYA!!! (cries)
I guess they liked the illustration, heehee!
Oh it is the supurrb pic of them down to the widdle details such as the she stripes matching their hair, tails, barbell & magick!
Thais has such brilliant sensitivity & finesse with the media, and Elisa has such a delightful watercolor, pen & ink technique!
The faerie is awesomely accessorized by the jewels & slippers, and you can almost sense the cyclonic Cherry blossom flurry!
Aquamarinne has the gleaming arm bands, the widdle starfishy in her hair, and the luminous Green striations of her Bra, nya!
Sasha’s lingerie, pants, jewelry & hair have the nice sheen, and the widdle Silvery heart ornaments on the thong & zippurr!
Between the talk of the slather and the wolf grrl’s dinner I am getting hungry- my tummy is growling like the wolf, nya!
It is wonderful to read Sharon’s latest tale! She writes of such great sympathetic heroines with much bittersweet drama & thrills!
Her vivid descriptions greatly visualize the characters, locations & situations, with the excellent travelogue. dialogue & pace!
The background of the Star Trek – The Motion Picture M’ress pic has a sort of V’ger cloud ambience.
I hope she will be in the new Trek movies!
Oh I have a question about the M’Ress pic! How do you tell the rank and insignia of that purrticular movie style uniform?
In the first movie, the rank braid on the sleeves is basically the same system used in the original TV series, although some of the movie uniforms also have shoulder epaulets to indicate the rank. She has the 1.5 stripe on each sleeve to indicate she is a Lt. Cmdr. For that movie, costume designer Robert Fletcher came up with the new color code system for the many different uniforms. In this case, the Beige color of her Class A uniform shirt indicates that she is a Bridge Officer, and the Gold circle under the Enterprise insignia patch indicates that she is of the Operations Branch! However, later for Star Trek II, yet another system was designed, and there were further changes down the road for the uniforms of Next Gen and so forth!
Nyoka & Nyanko:
Thank y’all for introducing the new art!
That will conclude the additions to our mewseum, but speaking of the Trek, Mike has more illustrative goodness to tell us about, in his review of the
Star Trek Ships of the Line 2013 Calendar!
Thanks Bun! The Star Trek Ships of the Line calendars are an annual collection of magnificent images of the ships of Star Trek, rendered in glorious full of photo-realism by various artists! Priced $14.99 US / $17.99 Canada by Universe Publishing, this’un greets us with Alan Rivard’s front cover illustration of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D against Q’s energy barrier from their Encounter at Farpoint on stardate 41153.7, and then the calendar opens to reveal 13 stunningly beautiful 12″ x 24″ wide, full-bleed panoramic images!
Rivard also contributes the centerspread scene of the Original Series & Next Generation’s Enterprises meeting above the clouds, and April’s image of Enterprise NX-01’s less cordial meeting with a couple of P-51 Mustangs! Legendary designer Andrew Probert (who I got to meet at Trinoc Con) contributes the matte painting of the refitted Enterprise’s massive cargo bay & hanger deck from my favorite movie Star Trek – The Motion Picture, and a painting of the shuttlecraft Copernicus leaving the hanger of the Galaxy class Enterprise!
For February the early Enterprise XCV-330 and the NCC-1701-E are gorgeously envisioned by Mark Radenmaker! Another long time Trek designer Doug Drexler provides January’s scene of the original series’s Enterprise escorting a convoy of DY-500 freighters, May’s task force of the NX-01 and 2 sister ships cruising past the fiery nebula, and November’s scene of the USS Defiant and a shuttle racing above Deep Space Nine, where the Enterprise is moored as an Excelsior class ship emerges from the blossoming wormhole!
Douglas E. Graves majestically envisions the Galileo shuttlecraft approaching the Enterprise against The Moon in June; Tobias Richter beautifully renders the refitted NCC-1701 from port stern in July, and the phasers of the Stargazer against the Enterprise in October; D.M. Phoenix treats us to the exciting orbital activity of the USS Phalanx in the dock tended by workbees & shuttles of September; and finally Dan Uyeno contributes the quietly chilling starboard astern scene of the NCC -1755 mapping the asteroids of December!
The little date grid is subtly imposed in the lower corner of each month’s image! I highly recommend this collection of breathtaking images of star faring beauty and power to fans of Star Trek and futuristic aerospace technology, and if you enjoy that sort of thing, I’ll also highly recommend the calendar series’ companion hardcover Ships of the Line book, edited by Margaret Clark & Doug Drexler, published by Pocket in 2006! Now I’ll turn The Mew back to Petra again, for this month’s Magazine Mewsings of the catgirls’ favorite recent
Fish Photos & Appurrtizing Images!
Arigato, nya! This is the portion of The Mew in which we mention our favorite recent favorite appurrtizing images of fish and other delicacies from the deep, which have appurred on the recent angling, diving, nature. aquarium & cooking purriodicals, nya! These might be the the photographs or the illustrations of the fresh water or the salt water type to tempt our tummy, such as the big Bass on the cover of the Flyfish Journal vol.4 #1, the succulent Steelie on the cover of Fly Fisherman vol.44 #1, and the tasty Texas crappie on The Fall cover of Crappie World, nya!
There is a mouth-watering Wahoo on the October cover of Florida Sportsman, the tantalizing Tuna on the November cover of Salt Water Sportsman, and the beautiful Blue Marlin caught in the St. Thomas waters in the November cover of Marlin magazine! The fine fish is caught by the lady in Red on the cover of the In-Fisherman 2013 Ice Fishing Guide, the supurrb Shark is on the cover of Guy Harvey Magazine vol. 3 #9, and the Great White hungers on the cover of How it Works #38, but the fish should be in the nekomimi tummy, not the other way around, nya!
Peter Argardy’s Sailfish graces the November / December cover of Florida Sport Fishing The Vipurr Fish has the long fangs on the November / December cover of Science Illustrated, but I would like to sink my teeth into that apurritif from the abyss, nya! I could also gobble some of the Gobies & Goldfish like on the cover of Aquarium USA’s 2013 Annual, the delicious Discus on the November / December cover of Amazonas; and the tantalizing Trigger Fish, the bite-sized Butterfly Barb & lovely Lobster that are on the December cover of Tropical Fish Hobbyist, nya! The aquarium fish might be the snack – sized smaller fry, but purrhaps the bucket full would hit the spot, nya! Oh I’d better stop because nyow I have induced the cravings, nya!
Nyaaa… nyow my tummy has the craving too!
Me three, nya!
Purrhas we could take the short break?
It is seconded!
It is thirded, nya!
Oh all right! Um folks , we will be right back after the short break with this month’s batch of comic book reviews, so please don’t touch that dial!

We were purrpared for the craving!
nom nom nom
We are so grateful to be blessed with the friends and food!
We must pay forward the kindness!
Ok y’all, we are coming out of the break!
We are back, and nyow we will go from the fish to the fish-tailed grrls as Myayr & Lizzy tail-tag team to tell us about
Mermaids & Mythology #5, nya!
Mermaids & Mythology http://www.mermaidmagazine.com is the quarterly magazine by Pixie Publishing of Cornwall, UK who also publishes Faeries And Enchantment http://www.faemagazine.com, which are both edited by cordial Karen Kay! This autumnal issue is purriced $8.99 USA & $9,99 Canada, and has 52 full color pages (including the covers) full of the fins, fashion and fun in the photos illustrations, intermews, reviews and the tales of Mermaid folklore, cosplay, events and the arts! The dazzling array of beautiful photos are often quite large fas ull page pics and the two-page spurreads!
The front cover image of Lyanka Gryu with the lovely Red hair to accent her shimmering Green tail scales & body art by Kristina Elizarova sets the beautiful tone of the issue! More photos accompany the intermew with Kristina, but purrior to that is the pic of lovely Lenette with the frilly finned green & Golden mer-tail to match her flaxen hair; the greetings from Karen Kay and assistant editor Cara Bamford who intermews beautiful belly dancer, make-up artist & mermaid Christel with photos by Douglas Carter! Christel has the cute shell bra, purrl strands & bangles above her iridescent Blue mer-tail!
Speaking of the beautifl Blue -tail mermaids, there is the breathtaking two-page underwater spurread of the famous Mermaid Melissa with the Blue tail and the supurr cute Brown fishnet top to match her flowy hair, as she discusses the life of the purrofessional purrformer! Another famous purrformer and model is Hannah Fraser, so purretty and purrt on the beach with the shimmering White and Golden style, and as the magnificent vision in the deep with the Blue tail and the ornate strapless top, swimming amidst that school of yummy fish, as she tells the tales of the mer-legends of the different cultures!
There are lots of photos of mermaids of all colors and ages by Cate and Tony Vail to accompany Stephanie Simms’s 3 page report on Merpalooza, the annual Mermaid & Pirate Con on August 10-12th! The fintastic festivities continue in Micah Moore’s 3 page report on the 30th Annual Coney Island Mermaid Purrade on June 30th with the ornate opulent beauty! There is much joy in those images, and we hope there will soon be again, as our hearts go out to the folks Big Apple and of the many other places from the Caribbean to Canada who have endured the coastal catastrophe of supurr storm Sandy.
(Elizabeth & Mary Nyan purrayerfully bow and clap hands twice)
More of the summertime tailed fun is reminisced by Mermaid Shelly in her two pages, with photos of her and other mer-friends; and to fin-tastically follow that is the gorgeous goddess of the sea, 50 years young Mermaid Maria, with the tail and bandeau top that shimmer as Goldenly as the setting sun in her inspurrational photos by Steve Lawrenz! Rachel Curtis brings the astrological page of the Autumnal Merscopes; and then author Lucy Cavendish & artist Selina Fenech who are both from down under (not the sea but of Australia), who have collaborated to share the beautiful spirit, wisdom and artistry!
Doreen Virtue is the clairvoyant counselor & author who contributes the oracle wisdom, with the widdle photo of her as the bejeweled tube-topped Blue-tailed mermaid! The lovely jewel strands, necklace & tiara adorn the magnificent coiffure of Hannah Titania who purrvides the mermaid hair care tips as she basks upon the rocks, and further fabulous fashions are modeled by beautiful Blue-haired Kerry who has her land legs for the photos by Lauren-Becki Rowlands! Another lovely mermaid of the Blue hair is Melody, whose tale and Blue tail are accompanied Marina, Merrow and Alena on the rocks!
One of the most extra special articles is the six page intermew with beautiful heroic mermaid Krystal Patrick, who is not only the fellow North Carolinian who has swum the waters near here, but she is the United States Air Force veteran of the war in Afghanistan who survived the severe injuries, seen in the different colored tails & tattoos enjoying the surf in Anthony Russo’s photos! There are photos of her in her sharp ;oolong USAF BDUs too! She is the inspurrational heroine who we wish to thank for her brave service and sacrifices, and we hope that she has big waves of healthy happiness in her future!
There are many different colors types of sea-worthy tails & fins, and to bring home the mer-ry magazine are the 2 pages of the pics of the mermaid readers from around the world such as Datana, Daniela, Tory, Evie, Nora & Roya! There are only 4 ads for the cosmetics, magazines, book & purrformer, but they are enchanting images! Our purrognosis is that Mermaids & Mythology is the purriodical of such beauty, grace & joy that is as hard to resist as the siren’s call! We think this magazine would appeal to cosplayers & mermaid fans, and give it the purraise of the 2 tails up! Nyow here is Becca to begin our
Comic Book Critiques!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #14
Hai! issue #14 is the 28 page comic book purriced $2.99 from Dark Horse, and compurrised of the 22 page tale “Billy the Vampire Slayer Part One””, plus the page of the readers’ and editor’s interesting comments, and the 5 pages of the ads! The story by Jane Espenson & Drew Z Greenberg was scripted by Jane Espenson and purroduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon, whose Avengers movie is our favoritest movie of the year thus far! The story was pencilled by Karl Moline, inked by Andy Owens and colored by Michelle Madsen who were the artists of Joss Whedon’s great Fray spin-off slayer series!
It was lettered by Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn, Scott Allie & assitantly edited Freddye Lins! It is available in the choice of 2 different covers, the ‘slayer recruiting poster’ art by Phil Noto; and the scene by Georges Jeanty, Michelle Madsen & Dexter Vines of Billy fighting the zompires! Zompires are the breed of zombie vampires that lack any human or demon intelligence and just act like the rabid monster, ever since the the flow of further magick to the world was shut off at the end of Buffy Season 8, but Willow has been trying to turn it back on!
A unique aspect of this story is that although Buffy and the other slayers are briefly mentioned, neither Buffy nor the other regular characters appurr in it, because it focuses on the characters and slayage in another town! Billy Lane is the purrotagonist of the tale in the small California town, who lives with his kindly hippy granny Sky who has the purrettiest long White hair, and the beaded decor that would be fun to paw at! Billy has been working to defend himself, from bullies Garron and Post, because he is gay and they are mean. His friends are Katie and Devon, but Billy has the romantic eyes for Devon!
Devon also has the ideas for their relationship, as the Slayer and the Watcher, even if Billy has no supurr powers! They do not know Buffy, but Devon’s sister met her in the coffee shop in San Francisco! This is the good timing, because even the bullies are not safe when the zompires arrive, and turn the residents into more zompires! This results in the bloody gory violence, and the heroic fortitude when Billy slays a zompire for the first time! This tale is off to the good start, with the ingredients of the likable believable characters and adversaries, as the monstrous threat begins to bloom in the small town!
Jane Espenson has a long great association with the slayage, as she was a writer & purrducer for the Buffy and Angel TV shows It is always the joy to see more of the art by Karl Moline and Andy Owens who have often illustrated the slayage, and Michelle Madsen’s colors are so richly sumptuous as mewsual! I think the entire team at Dark Horse does the supurrb work, in so faithfully continuing the Buffy canonical continuity in the comic books which have been consistent favorites for several years! I am anxious to see what happens next, but until then I will see what Spike & his insectoid crew are up to in
In Buffy Season 9, Spike, was not happy with where the relationship was not going with Buffy, so he decided to leave San Francisco aboard his space ship with his faithful insectoid crew to go stew about it on the moon, but just as his crew tried to purrk up his spirits, they were hijacked by the group of demons and their giant frog monster! They ordered Spike to take them back to the huge crater once known as the town of Sunnydale, in hopes of finding any remaining shards of the powerful magick seed, but all they found in the ransacked ruins was Morgan, the sexy succubus who wants some shards too!
Morgan, Spike and his crew trashed the hijackers, but then Nash & Pearl showed up! They are the big bad villains who have tangled with Angel & Faith, and they have a history with Spike & Drusilla, as depicted in the flashback opening of Spike #3! The 28 page issue is compurrised of the 22 page story of “A Dark Place Part 3 of 5 “, plus the 1 page of the comments. 1 page of the Dark Horse mews, and the 4 pages of the Colder comic purreview! The tale was scripted by Victor Gischler, pencilled by Paul Lee, colored by Cris Peter, and the same inker, letterers, editors & purrducer as the Buffy comic!
It is available in the choice of the 2 covers, Steve Morris’s art of Spike looking like he has just brawled with demons, and Jenny Frison’s scene of Spike & Morgan in the chamber! Morgan is purresently in her human form in the tight sleek black leather outfit, but she purreviously spurrouted the horns, bat wings, tail, fangs, claws & the hooves when purrvoked! There is more demon action in the flashback to 1953, when Pearl’s Roman romance with the Black Widower Demon went bad, but it was worse for the demon when Spike & Drusilla arrived to collect the money he owed, and the slayage ensued!
Drusilla was last seen a few months ago in Angel & Faith’s comic book! Back to the purresent in the Sunnydale seed chamber, the amewsed reminiscing ends with yet another fight, and then the flight as Spike & Morgan make the orbital in the ship, but the crew is wary of her purresence! She and Spike have the nice chat in which we find out her history as the courtesan to powerful men throughout history, and in further flashbacks we the courtesans comforting the kings of various ancient cultures! Spike’s dour mood may have precipitated this miniseries, but it has lightened up in this fun mini-series!
It has the good mix of the humor, character development, supurrnatural creatures, violent action, and was not interrupted by the ads! Morgan is the neat addition, and Spike seems to enjoy her company, much more than with the Beverly Hills demonesses of his purrior mini-series that spun off of Angel’s “After the Fall” story a few years ago… although, we are still hoping that Ilyria will soon return! It is the shame they had to let the yummy looking monster frog legs go to the waste, but I suppose it could not be helped during the impurromptu retreat! Nyow we will learn much more about Nash & Pearl in
Angel & Faith #15
Issue #15 has the 28 full color pages compurrised of the 22 page tale plus the 2 page of the readers’ comments, and the 4 pages of the ads! The tale “The Hero Of His Own Story” is told in the 2 parts. Part 1 purrtains to Whistler & Part 2 purrtains to Nash & Pearl! Whistler is a tough half demon in human form who has been around since the TV series! Issue #15 has the 2 different covers, one by Steve Morris, and the other by Rebekah Isaacs & Dan Jackson! Rebekah is the mewsual artist of these comics, but this time Part 1 was pencilled by Lee Garbett & inked by Derek Fridolfs, Part 2 was drawn by David Lapham! This issue was colored by Dan Jackson, it has the same purrducer, letterers & editors as the Buffy & Spike comics, and it was scripted by Chistos Gage who also writes Avengers Academy!
Angel has returned to London after the purrior 4 issues’ expurrdition to the dimension of Quor’toth! He and his old associate Whistler are displeased with each other, but they put up with each other in the pub while Whistler tells his origin story as the son of a mixed couple from ancient times, his role in history through the centuries, and his unhappiness at what Buffy & Angel did with the magick at the end of Season 8! I won’t spoil the result of Part One’s pub chat, but it involves sentimentality and painful bloody violence! Whistler seems to have inherited his father’s looks given the one glimpse of his demon mommy of the tragic fate. She was the humanoid type of demon with the long Black hair, the Gray Ram-like horns, the layered scales of the Dark Green & Orangey complexion, and the swishy tail!
Part 2 tells the origin of Nash & Pearl starting in the dusty depurression in 1930’s Oklahoma, with the amewsing complaining of the large Orange demon summoned by Nash & Pearl’s mommy, who has the lovely long Platinum Blond hair & the tattoos! Let’s just say that Nash & Pearl are the cute result with the supple ears, bright Blue eyes & their mommy’s hair color! The decades pass, with more of the demons, tragedies, and the connection to Angel & Whistler! Although Faith is absent, this was the poignant issue with the great dialogue, the tragic incidents of the bigotry & gory violence, revelations of the crucial information, and my craving for the next issue! We have been very happy with various Dark Horse but nyow Vonny will migrate from the Dark Horse to the DC Comics, starting with her review of
Hai, and although we have not been reading reading many DC Comics in the past year or so since they rebooted the purroduct line, here are 3 that I would like to mention, nya! Part of DC’s Vertigo impurrint of great titles such as Sandman, Death, Fables, and many others, Fairest is the spin-off of The Fables created by Bill Willingham, who we have met at Heroes Con, on the mainland in Charlotte, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen the wonderful pic he drew for us of The Elementals’ Rebecca “Fathom” Golden, nya? Well Fables purrtains to the characters from the fairy tales, stories & folklore who live secretly amongst the normal human populace, in places such as the Fabletown district of Manhattan, of which Snow White is the Deputy Mayor, and Bigby the Wolf is the Sheriff, nya!
They are just the tip of the many wonderful characters such as Rapunzel who is the star of the me storyline “The Hidden Kingdom Part 1: Big In Japan”, nya! It is the 22 page tale, plus the 7 pages of the ads and the author’s message page to compurrise this 32 page issue purriced $2.99, nya! It was written by Lauren Beukes, illustrated by Iniki Minada, colored by Eva De la Cruz, lettered by Todd Klein, edited by Shelly Bond, assistantly edited by Gregory Lockard, with the consultation by Bill Willingham and the beautiful cover of nude Rapunzel and her very long shimmering hair by Adam Hughes, nya! We loved the Disney Rapunzel movie, nya! Her hair grows four inches purr hour, so she gets it trimmed three times purr day by her stylist Joel who is the crow in the human form, nya!
That is the scene when the flock of the magickal papurr origami birds crashes through the window, with a startling message for her in Japanese, addressing her as Okiki-san which is the name she has not used in the long time, nya! The message mentions her long lost children who were spurrited away at birth, so she goes to Japan to investigate, nya! She discusses the mission with Snow, Bigby, and her witchy mommy Frau Totenkinder. Meanwhile friend Jack is trying to avoid the gunmen he owes money, so he bids farewell to his girlfriend Rose Red and flies to Japan with Rapunzel & Joel, nya! There is the great two – page spurread of them on the bustling streets of Tokyo’s Shibuya district, where the Kappa man and the chauffeur help try to them evade the scary Kuchisake-onna, nya!
The Kappa is the type of water yokai with the widdle water dome cap, and the Kuchisake-onna is the female yokai with the hideous slit – open mouth full of fangs, nya. She has the gun too, nya! This was a captivating issue full of the multicultural folkore and startling plot revelations, with the extremely detailed and expurressive art of the scenery, fashions & coiffure of the fascinating characters, nya! I am fond of the great dialogue too, including Rapunzel’s neat first – purrson narrative, and I look forward to more, nya! Nyow we will trade the Kuchisake-onna fangs for the were-cat fangs in
Justice League #13, nya!
We are purrticularly interested in Wonder Woman’s top cat enemy The Cheetah, who we purrofiled in Apurril 2011, nya! I think the last time that I saw The Cheetah was the Amazon version that appurred in the latter issues of Wonder Woman written by J Michael Stracynzki, just purrior to the reboot, so this is the purremier of the mew Cheetah in “The Secret of the Cheetah Part One”, which is the 20 page lead tale in the 40 page issue of Justice League #13, nya! It was written by Geoff Johns, pencilled by Tony Daniel, inked by Richard Friend & Batt, colored by Tomeu Morey, lettered by Patrick Brosseau, edited by Brian Cunningham & assitantly edited by Katie Kubert, nya! The issue is is purriced $3.99, and has the cover art is by Daniel, Friend & Morey and the variant cover art by Alex Garner, nya!
My copy has the first cover, which depicts The Cheetah brutally clobbering the entire Justice League in the jungle, nya! The tale begins with the catchy panel of Wonder Woman & Superman smooching in mid air against the full moonlight, mew la la, nya! That romantic moment transpurrs five days purrior to the impurressive two – page spurread of the Amazon Purrincess and The Cheetah in the furious fight in the lovely Central Park, nya! This Cheetah has the intricate design of the spots and the purretty jewelry, but that is all she is wearing aside from the fangy frown, nya! The Cheetah has the lovely tapurred ears and the angry tail, and her eyes have the Golden gleam like Wonder Woman’s lasso, which does not seem to be working to leash the bad kitty, who wins the first round of the fight, nya!
Batman & Aquaman learn more from Colonel Steve Trevor about the origin of Barbara Minerva alias The Cheetah, while at the League’s orbital headquarters The Flash & Cyborg note the awkward time for Wonder Woman & Superman, but things go from awkward to cat-astrophic later when The Cheetah attacks the League in the lush jungle of the Congo, nya! She is so fast & tough as she pounces upon them all, to put the bite in the alarming cliff hanger, nya! After that, the disgruntled Trevor is visited by Amanda Waller as he leaves the hospital, and then by Green Arrow at the bar in the 6 page start of “On the Outs” written by Geoff Johns & Jeff Lemire, pencilled by Brad Walker, inked by Drew Hennessy, colored by Jay David Ramos, edited by Brian Cunningham & assitantly edited by Katie Kubert, nya!
If I had any quibbles, the Justice League has seemed a bit too dark, grim and unhappy for my purrsonal taste in the past several years, although, Justice League: Generation Lost did have the nice sense of family amongst the heroes, nya! The issue is topped off by the 5 page purreview of Superman’s epic mecha work out from Superman #13, which is written by Scott Lobdell, drawn by Kenneth Rocafort, colored by Sunny Gho, lettered by Rob Leigh, edited by Eddie Berganza and assitantly edited by Darren Shan! Otherwise there are the pages of ads in this issue which is full of the richly colored intricate detail, but Cheetah should hope they do not try to de-tail or de-claw her, nya! The next cat fight between Wonder Woman & The Cheetah happens in the $3.99 purriced, supurr fun 40 page issue of
Ame-Comi Girls #1, nya!
This is the first of the DC Comics based upon their line of the Ame-Comi heroine statues of the anime-ish designs, nya! We have several of those, figures including The Cheetah, nya! Adding to my great enthusiasm for this issue is the dream team of pencillers Amanda Conner & Tony Akins, inkers Walden Wong & Conner, writers Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, colorist Paul Mounts & letterer Wes Abbott, editor Jim Chadwick & assitant editor Sarah Gaydos, nya! Conner & Mounts puirrvided the cover art and Dustin Nguyen purrvided the variant, nya! Amanda Conner is one of our all time favoritest artists and currently draws the Silk Spectre comic, nya! She & Mounts, Gray & Pamimotti were responsible Power Girl #1-12 from 2009 to 2010, which was our favoritest DC Comic of the past several years, nya!
I think this Ame-Comi Girls comic might just just be the most fun & purrettiest DC comic since then, nya! Nyow for the taste of the plot, as Trevor, Waller, the Military Chiefs and the Purresident discuss the purrposed first contact with the Amazons of the island of Themyscira, just as the nation of Kasnia’s assault on the island is on its way, nya! The invaders are not purrpared for the awesome might of Diana and her sister Amazons, as we meet her fighting the herd of Minotaurs in the glorious full page panel, nya! It is just the fun sparring, but her majestic mommy Queen Hippolyta is not amewsed to see her purrincess daughter training with the taurs. nya! The argument results in the grumpy mom & daughter, but later that night the deadlier fight begins as the Amazons battle the airborne Kasnia troops, nya!
There is another magnificent full page panel of Purrincess Diana whirling the blades to decapurrtate the enemies, nya! After the bloody battle & more gorgeous wardrobe changes, Diana & her winged White Pegasus horse with the dappled flanks surpurrises the White House upon her surpurrise visit as the Themysciran ambassador, nya! I want the Pegasus horse, nya! I still want the Banker Pony too nya. Later she addresses the United Nations in her beautiful sexy costume, amidst some rude reactions, but the worst is when The Cheetah strikes, with another great full page pic of the evil catgirl rushes the stage to attack with the skull bomb, nya! This version of the villain is more clothed and does not seem as powerful as the purrior Cheetah, but this tale does have the more lighthearted moments, nya!
I do not wish to spoil more of the plot, but there is another catgirl lurking about, as Catwoman, Harley & Ivy watch the purroceedings on TV in another great full page pic, nya! They were the trio of stars of Gotham City Sirens, which was another favorite DC comics of the recent years, and it appurrs that we will see more of them in Ame-Comi Batgirl #1, nya! This was the “A +” issue full of beautifully rendered characters with such great poses, expurressions, beautiful costumes, mecha, critters, scenery, dialogue, the sense of heroic fun, the lovely use of the color and light, and the graphic narrative technique to make Ame-Comi Girls #1 my favoritest DC comic book in purrhaps two and a half years, nya! Nyow we will go from the comics of the Cheetah grrl to the comics of Tiger grrls here is Jenjen tell us about
Avengers Academy #38, nya!
The 4 part “Final Exam” story of the Avengers Academy vs Briggs is all done, and the feud between the Avengers & the X-Men seems over, so nyow it is the fun time, and we are so glad that Tigra is back for the “Crosstown Rivals” story written by Christos Gage, drawn by Tom Grummett, inked by Cory Hamscher and Rick Ketcham, letterered by Joe Caramagna colored by Chris Sotomayor, edited by Bill Rosemann, assitantly edited by Jon Moisan, with front cover homage to Uncanny X-Men #100 Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jim Charalampidis. This issue is purriced $2.99, rated T for the teen reader, and its 28 pages are compurrised of the supurr fun 20 page tale, the 1 roll call / recap page, 1 page of readers’ and author comments, and the 6 pages of the ads.
It is the splendid day for football game on Marvel Field under the blue sky and palm trees as the Avengers Academy team plays against the Jean Grey Institute, formerly known as the Xavier School. The players and officials include Tigra, Jocasta, White Tiger, Finesse, Hazmat, Veil, X-23, Lightspeed, Lyra Hulk, Warbird, Kitty, Rogue, Giant Man, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Wolverine, Ice Man, Gambit, Mettle, Striker, Reptil, Quentin Quire, Rockslide, Anole, Glob & Doop. In the addition to so many heroes, there is the good mix of the sports action, sexy costumes, the dashes of romance and seriousness, and the amewsing developments, such as Tigra’s pounce upon Wolverine. The characters and scenery are wonderfully drawn, and colored with such rich vibrance.
I give it the high purraise as one of my favoritest issues of Avengers Academy, which has been our favoritest Marvel comic of the past two years, due to the great respectful balance of the older and mewer characters’ development, the humor, drama, action, the great character & scenic art with our pick for favorite coloring, and of course the catgirl factor is also the plus. I don’t think any of the issues were ever late, and on top of that there were bi-weekly issues, plus the annual and the Spider-Man cross-over. Sadly this series will be cancelled after the next issue, so I suspect that we will have much to say about Avengers Academy in next month’s Mew, but nyow it is time to go from the comic book with two Tiger grrls to the comic book with the Panther grrl & Snake grrl,
Pantha #4 (plot spoiler warning)
Dynamite Entertainment has the flare for the fierce femme fatales in the foxy fashions such as Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Vampirella and Pantha, who is the immortal telepathic were-panther incarnation of the Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet. “Dangerous Game Part 4” is the concluding chapter of the story arc with the mysterious woman Mayra caught between the heroes and villains. The heroes include Pantha, The Conjuress, Pendragon, Lorelei, Skaar, Brotos and Lenny; whilst the villains include Mamba the snake woman, The Blood Red Queen of Hearts, and the Egyptian god Seth who intends to succeed the Mad God of Chaos. Issue #4 is purriced $3.99 for its 32 pages are compurrised of the 22 page tale, the 4 page Evil Ernie comic book purreview, the 2 pages of Dynamite’s mews & the 4 pages of the ads.
The tale was written by Brandon Jerwa, drawn by Pow Rodrix, colored by Thiago Dal Bello, lettered by Marshall Dillon & edited by Joe Rybandt. The cover art by Mark Texeira depicts Pantha unsheathing her long sharp claws, with Mamba’s bejeweled face looming large in the background. The tale resumes after the body count of the purrior cliffhanger, as Pendragon’s team battles Mamba’s giant snake at his castle in the Colorado Rockies and then rush to aid investigative journalist Flynn at the federal agents’ office in Albuquerque, where Mamba, The Queen & Seth have already captured Maya & Pantha, and have left for Seth’s temple lair for the ritual to make Mayra his Bride and mother to his spawn, but this does not abide with The Queen who currently inhabits Mayra’s body, nor with Seth’s rival Mamba.
This results in the back stabbing in more ways than one as loyalties & wardrobes change. The Queen changes Mayra’s Blue jeans & Purrple short sleeve shirt for the Purrple robe; Mamba trades the Gold snake skin bikini with serpentine bracelets & boots for the Orange robe; Pantha alternates between the White Egyptian gown with the Gold accessories and her mewsual Panther bikini with the matching gloves & thigh boots. Lorelei still wears the Black bikini & boots with the short jacket. Although we do not see The Queen’s jeweled thong bikini with cape & detached sleeves since she inhabited Mayra’s body, we do see ample treachery, sorcery, stabbings, snakes, devourings, regurgitations & bloody gore amidst the sexy appurral, jewels and bared midriffs. The bare midriffs are also quite rampant in
Critter vol. 2 #5 (plot spoiler warning)
Big Dog Ink’s Critter purrtains to the purrky titular heroine whose real name is Cassia Crawford, the college student, daughter of another crime fighter, and member of the catgirl – themed team Purrfection
based in Los Angeles. Issue #5 has the 24 full color pages, compurrised of the nicely uninterrupted, full color 22 page tale which was written by Tom Hutchison, illustrated by C.B. Zane and Sony Mergitt with assistance by Jenevieve Broomall, colored by Beezz Studio, and lettered by Kel Nuttall. There are 5 sexy variant catgirlish covers to choose from, cover A by C.B. Zane, covers B-D by Jenevieve Broomall, and cover E by Jamie Tyndall. Following the tale is the one page of more character purrofiles & the purreview page of the next issue’s cover illustrations by Jenevieve Broomall and Fico Ossio.
Purreviously Cassie moved from Michigan to Los Angeles, rooms with her best friend Gina at college, met a journalist named Jason and was recruited by Cougar, the manager of the glamorous celebrity team, who have renamed Critter as Josie in honor of their late former comrade. The local heroes she has met seem more interested in fame & glamour, whereas Cassie purrfurs to help people & pounce upon the criminals. Gina upgraded Cassia’s bare midriff, low-rise, sharp-clawed shiny Blue & White Critter costume with the tail & radio kitty ear pinna, and thus she is purrticularly impurressive when she rescues an actress as issue #4 begins. After the rescue and the yummy hot dog, she momentarily expurriences a tempurral ripple, and her other costume mysteriously levitates out of Ginas room.
While Jason has the smooch & chat with Cougar purrtaining to the original Josie’s murder, the appurrition of Josie has the chat with Cassie who then vows the tearful angry vengeance. The villains should purray that she does not purrey upon them. Will Cassie bring Gina a hot dog too? The plot thickens like the chili & relish on the bun, between the flashback of the bloody torture & murder, the purresent concerns amongst Purrfection, and the future scene of Cassie’s captive mom. Aside from these unsettling, emotional incidents, Critter continues to be the peppy comic book full of the sexy fashions and catgirl costumes, rendered with rich vibrant color that continues the craving for the next exuberant issue. That will top off the comics critiques, and nyow here is the tag team to purrsent our monthly

Cham Cham, nya!
She is the delightful feline female fighter of the Samurai Shodown video game series from SNK, and I have a cute widdle figure of her, with her chimp Paku Paku, nya! The series debuted in 1993 but Cham Cham did not purrremier until 1994 in Samurai Shodown II, so she is about the same age as Katt, nya! She is the the purrky peppy smart feisty younger sister of another character Tam Tam nya! Cham Cham is cute with the neko ears, tail, claws, the long lush Green hair and – and eyes, wears the Yellow Tiger stripe jumpurr with the paw gloves, the claw boots, and – and her boomerang, nya!

Her mommy’s name is Kenta, her daddy’s name is Sam Sam, she likes eels, bananas, climbing, and – and training the monkeys, nya! For the next early 1990’s tiger grrl, many have worn the Yellow Power Ranger costume in the decades since the American version of the Japanese supurr sentai series prurrmiered on TV in 1993, but the very first of the Yellow Rangers was
Trini Kwan, nya!
5’3″ tall Trini had the noble heart, the spirit of volunteerism, the graceful Kung Fu skill, and – and the when she transformed into the Ranger, she acquired the weapons, the supurr powers, and – and the giant Saber Tooth Tiger Megazord mech to pounce upon the enemies, nya! When actress Thuy Trang left the show after the 1st season, the character Trini left the Rangers’ home city of Angel Grove to purrticipate in the World Peace Conference, and Thuy Trang tragically passed away in 2001, nya. For the 2nd season of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, the Saber Tooth Tiger power was inherited by
Aisha Campbell, nya!
Aisha soon befriends the other Rangers as the multi – talented heroic girl who cared for the animals, nya! She was purrtrayed by Karan Ashley who also later appurred in the 1995 Power Rangers movie, nya! In the movie, Aisha’s Tiger theme got replaced by the Bear theme, when Dulcea gave them the got cloth hoody ninja ranger costumes, nya! After the 3rd season’s Zeo Crystal time travel tale, Aisha moved to Africa to help animals, nya! Tanya became the next Yellow Ranger, but not of the tiger theme, nya! Nyow I will tag our own Trini to who has the web comic tiger girls to purraise, nya!
Hai! John “The Gneech” Robey http://gneech.com is the prolific artist / cartoonist from Virginia, known for his wonderful fantasy & furry art http://www.furaffinity.net/user/thegneec and beautiful web comics Never Never http://mopsy.com illustrated by Sue Rankin colored by Richard Wyatt & written by Robey; Arclight Adventures http://arclightadventures.com colored by Wyatt, written & drawn by Robey, and The Suburban Jungle http://suburbanjungleclassic.com, written & drawn by Robey & colored by K “Hikaru” Dickinson, which brings us to that comic’s star, Tiffany Tiger!
The anthropomorphic web comic started in 1998 and ran for a decade, with the charming slice of life plots set in the near future, with the great cast of characters of all species & breeds such as Tiffany, her family & friends! She is the kind, smart, beautiful, sexy, industrious, multi-talented Siberian Tiger grrl with the striped fur pelage, White tummy, Green eyes & Brown hair! Tiffany is the daughter of Natasha, half- sister of Louis & Comfort, half – sister in law to Dover Cheetah, fiance of Leonard Lion the tavern owner; and the supurr model / actress who stars in the TV series! Our next two web comics Tiger grrls are also the delightful characters by the great artists, but their sites might not be all that ‘work – safe’ or intended for the widdle kitties to view. Nevertheless, nextly I would like to happily mention
Mary Ann Tigress!
Andrew Dickman http://www.starfieldcreations.com is the brilliant artist / cartoonist whose work has an great animation quality and the furry characters! As the web comics storyteller he has created delightful characters such as mascots Kimi Star & Hugey, and the cast of his web comic Roomies http://roomies.starfieldcreations.com which stars Swain “Swirly” Jenkins, Cherrie Renard, Andy Katt, and Mary Ann Tigress! She is the country girl who aspires to be the supurr model too, which with the good luck should be the cinch with her cheerful optimism, determined talent and her sexy beauty!
She has the large beautiful Green eyes, the endearing smile, the big bold Black stripes upon the Orangey fur with the White tummy & paws, the stripe in her long Blond hair in the pony tail that reaches past her butt, the supple tail with the Black tip, and the long lithe legs! She is quite peppy & vivacious, and like most Tigers she likes to frolic in the water, as you can see in the Roomies Gallery! You can also see more of her at Andrew’s Deviantart Gallery http://andrewdickman.deviantart.com and at The Mary Ann Tigress Fan Club http://angeltigressclub.deviantart.com! Nyow I would like to mention
Catherine ‘Cath” Naraayan,
the powerful, serious were-tiger leader of the Battle Suit Girls http://bsgcomic.free.fr, a gorgeous sci fi / fantasy webcomic of richly colored animation style by Ang http://angsthewicked.deviantart.com! The crime-fighting team of sexy monster grrls from Ectopia in the Bermuda Triangle also includes Alice the ghost (not to be confuzzled with great actress Alice Ghostly), Camilla the vampire, Cleo the mummy, Melissa the Frankenstein grrl, Nell the gynoid, and Tya the alien! Each wears the different color, high-collar bikini & boots!
Cath’s is of the White & Black tiger stripes with fingerless gloves & toeless boots, shiny bracelets & cute widdle tiger brooch that flaunt her 38 year old 6 ft, 197 lb. hard-body, Black & Yellow eyes, and the Black stripes upon her lovely Chocolatey skin and on her Yellow ears & tail! She is the stunning image but you might not wish to appurroach her if she is berserk in the battle! She has the White fangs, claws & hair with slight Pink tint, the magnificently ripped six pack abs purroudly displayed, and the F cup bust size!
Sometimes the boobies are freed from the bikinis, for those who are old enough to view in some of the pics by Ang & other great artists at the Battle Suits Girls Club http://battlesuitgirls.deviantart.com which is not for the widdle kitties! Cath is Indian, of the Hindu religion, a martial artist, body builder & mommy of sons Chris age 20 & Noah age 11 who train with her at the Temple of Cats. Furthermore, according to her profile, Cath enjoys nummy protein bars, 80’s rock and gardening! Now here is Ilyana to tell us about
Arigato! Another heroic, dark-skinned, White-haired tiger grrl with the sharp claws is this savage sensual Tigress who has gone by the other names across the millennia, from the Goddess Bast of ancient Egypt to the modern American incarnation of 18 year old Kassidy Farrell, in the purrint comic books published by Heroic Publishing http://www.heroicmultiverse.com! This Tigress first appurred in Champions #36, and she has since appurred with the other supurr heroes in the various issues of Champions, League of Champions, Liberty Comics, Flare, and in her own Tigress series!
She has the long White hair down past her hips, in the lovely contrast against the cute face stripes and the dark skin of her lithe physique in the tiger striped costume with the fingerless gloves! For more information I recommend Kassidy’s Tigress Blog http://kassidytigress.wordpress.com and her pages at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigress_(Heroic_Publishing), International Hero http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/t/tigress.htm and Comic Vine http://www.comicvine.com/tigress/29-47806! Nyow we will migrate to the Marvel Comics where purrowls the lady known as
Marvel Comics’ Pacific island Madripoor can be the very rough place full of the dangerous characters, including Tyger Tiger! She is one of the crime bosses who fights for control of the island, which puts her at the odds between heroes such as the X-Men and villains such as Hydra, but she does have the moral standards and refuses to purrtake of certain awful criminal trades! Purrior to that her name was Jessan Hoan, the Harvard educated banker from Singapore who ran the family bank until they were attacked by the Reavers gang, which almost ruined her life but she clawed her way back up!
She might be the beautiful Tiger girl in name only, but she is as dangerous as the Tiger, with the cat-like grace of the martial arts purrowess, the weapons purroficiency, the advanced equipment, the large sums of money, keen financial and political skills and the survival instincts of the cat! It is no wonder that Wolverine would have the interest in her! For more information about Tyger Tiger, I recommend her page at Marvel Comics’ official site http://marvel.com/universe/Tyger_Tiger! Nextly we will migrate from Marvel’s Madripoor to DC’s Apokolips to purrofile the tragic warrior woman known as
Not to be confuzzled with Marvel Comics’ Tigra, DC Comics’ Tiggra was purrhaps the tiger in name only, but had the sharp claws and knew how to use them on the harsh planet of Apokolips! According to DK Books’ DC Comics Encyclopedia, Tiggra first appurred in new Gods #7 in 1972 She was 5’9″ tall, 130 lbs, with the fiery Red – Blond hair and – and eyes! It was the rough life for her as the wife of evil Darkseid, and the mommy of Orion. I think Orion resembles her more than the dad! After the years of impurrisonment, she was freed by Orion in hopes to overthrow Darkseid, but sadly she was killed beforehand. If Tiggra is reincarnated in DC Comic’s mew continuity we hope she has the happier heroic Tiggra tale! Nyow here is Nyo-sensei to tell us about more DC Comics characters, starting with
The Golden Age Tigress!
Madripoor seems like the kind of shady place that our next crime boss grrl might like to purrowl around! The first of the DC Comics Tigress who was the deadly, cunning purredator and the enemy of Giovanni John Zatara the heroic magician and his assistant Tong! Of course Giovanni is the father of one of my favorite sorceresses, Zatanna Zatara! The first tale of this Tigress and her train robber gang was told by Fred Guardineer in 1938, in the most historic comic book Action Comics #1, which was not only first appurrance of the Tigress, but is best known for the first appurrance of Superman!
She wore the Yellow & Black striped top to match her short Blond hair synched by the Red bandana, and the Blue skirt to match her eyes! Although she had no supurr powers like Zatara, she gave him, Tong, the police & railroaders the big trouble and eluded capture for her acts of assault, murder, arson, piracy & plunder! For more information about her & other DC Comics characters of the Tigress alias, I recommend their Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigress_(DC_Comics)! On that note, nyow we will go from 1938 to 1942 to meet the tragic DC Comics Tigress whose real name was
Paula hailed from Brooklyn and was briefly the heroic member of the Young All-Stars team in 1942! She first appurred in the final panel of Young All-Stars #6 which was published in late 1987, about the time of DC’s Millennium mini-series! She was purrowling around, following the team in hopes of joining! She had the athletic agility, archery and the jujitsu training which were the big help! Inspired by the hero Paul Kirk alias The Manhunter, Paula had the confident competitive nature with sassy, flirty cattitude, the Yellow & Black tiger stripe maillot with matching boots & nekomimi cap, the widdle Black mask to match her hair, the Red cape & the crossbow pistol!
She had frisky interest in Iron Munro, met Purresident Roosevelt, and fought the Nazis, Blood Demon, the Dinosaur & other threats, until she was killed in issue #23. She was resurrected by the Valkyrie, but angrily awoke to attack her friends and fled amidst concern that she had turned evil, but this was unresolved when the series was cancelled after issue #31. Purrhaps the resurrection tampurred with her spirit to tragically become the bad kitty. For more about Paula I recommend her DC Comics Database page http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Paula_Brooks_Crock_(New_Earth) and Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paula_Brooks! On the Paula note, I should mention
The Orginal Huntress!
I wonder about her connection with Paula, because they are both from Mew York and have the same costume! The identity & relationship is tricky to chart because of the changes to history made by the Crisis on Infinite Earths story in the DC Comics, so I am not sure if they are the same purrson, or of the alternate realities! Depending on which timeline is which, she might be related to Paula, or purrhaps she might actually be older Paula, although the history was changed again in the Zero Hour and again in the Flashpoint story!
This Huntress debuted in Sensation Comics #68; she had the similar skills of Paula, and according to DC’s Who’s Who #10 she was 5’6″, 119 lbs, with Black hair, Green eyes & sharp claws! She was a member of the Injustice Society team of villains, an arch enemy of Wildcat, and rather unhappy when the heroine also known as The Huntress arrived! There have been the several Huntresses at DC! Paula married Crusher Crock alias Sportsmaster, and I will turn the spotlight over to sis who will tell us about their daughter named
Artemis Crock is the supurrb combatant with the blades & bow, but should not be confused with Wonder Woman’s sister amazon or the member of the Female Furies of Apokolips, who are other archers named Artemis! She first appurred in Infinity Incorpurrated #37 in 1987, which was written by Roy Thomas about the same time he created Paula! Artemis was the villain with long wavy Platinum Blond hair in the tight sleeveless un-tigerlike Magenta & White costume as the member of the Injustice Unlimited gang, who were the enemies of the heroic Infinity Incorpurrated team!
The latter team included the 2nd Wilidcat Yolanda Montez, who we purrofiled in December 2011! Artemis later became the 2nd Tigress, with the braided Honey Blonde ponytail, Yellow markings around on her left eye, the Yellow & Black Tiger stripe Tank top & compurression shorts accessorized by the choker, ammo belt, Black boots & gloves, quiver & weapons! It can be quite confuzzling to keep track of the Huntresses, Tigresses and Artemises, including her heroic version in the Young Justice comic books and animated TV series, in which she is voiced by Stephanie Lemelin!
Kelly Hu voices her mommy, who is the sympathetic former criminal Huntress in the wheelchair. Purrhaps there is the redemption in her later incarnation! Batman & Green Arrow respectfully asked for her purrmission to recruit Artemis for the young hero team! This Artemis has the Blue eyes, the long Blond ponytail, and the Green mask to match her bow and the bare midriff costume! Later purrtending to be the criminal, she changed her name to Tigress! For more info, I suggest her page at the Young Justice Wiki http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Artemis! Finally I wish to purraise
of the Kung Fu Panda animated anthropurrmorphic fantasy / martial arts comedy series by Dreamworks! She has appurred in the 2008 Kung Fu Panda movie, the sequel movie, the Secrets of the Furious Five and Secrets of the Masters shorts, the Holiday Special, TV series, books & video games! She is voiced by Angelina Jolie in the movies & shorts, Tara Strong as younger Tigress, Kari Wahlgren on TV, and Erin Torpey in the games! Tigress was the poor widdle orphan tiger cub adopted & trained by Master Shifu, and trained for over 2 decades to became the powerful, brave, graceful heroine to join fellow Masters Crane, Mantis, Monkey & Viper, to be known as The Furious Five! Unfortunately her adopted older brother Tai Lung got too power hungry & became the estranged villain of the first movie.
Tigress has the intense golden gaze and the gorgeous Black striped Orange & White fur! She wears the sleeveless floral pattern Red vest, trimmed in Black to match her pants, with the White belt & socks! At the tournyament it looked like she would be purrclaimed as the higher title of Dragon Warrior, until Po the Panda fell into the arena to become the powerful their powerful friend! For more info, I suggest her page at the Kung Fu Panda Wiki http://kungfupanda.wikia.com/wiki/Tigress! Dreamworks seems to have the neko’s nyan, between Angelina Jolie as the voice of Master Tigress, and Salma Hayek as the voice of Puss in Boot’s Kitty Softpaw! She is so purretty on the October cover of More Magazine OK I’m and done, and nyow here is Bunnibuns to tell us about another Tigress who is the star of
Mike Hoffman’s Tigress Tales!
Hai! This comic book was published by Amryl Entertainment who also publishes works by several great comics and fantasy artists such as Mike Hoffman, who is known for his lavish renderings of the lush scenery, spooky & barbaric scenes, and the sexy powerful characters such as Vampirella, Madam Tarantula, Octavia, Tura Satana, Squid Girl (no relation to the Ika-Masume anime) and this Tigress! She is the cat-eyed, barefoot grrl with the faint Reddish stripes on her tan skin and tail, to match her waist – length mane of Red hair!
She has the voluptuous, powerful physique which is barely caged by the stringy bikini, accessorized by the fangs and the bracelets! Depending on who draws her, sometimes she lacks the tail as if she were the Manx type, and she has been depicted without the bikini too! Of course, the wardrobe malfunction could be the expected occasional hazard during the adventures on the primordial jungle planet full of the savage critters, tribes, aliens & the rocket ships, but she has the sharp claws, knives, spears & arrows to make her point!
Finally I would like to mention another alien grrl, and although she is not part cat, she can have the great ferocity, and her famous tiger striped bikini of the Japanese Oni tradition which is perhaps the most iconic bikini of manga or anime! She does not have the cat ears or the tail, but does have the cute widdle horns, and her name is
Lum is one of the most famous anime characters of all time, as the star of Rumiko Takahashi’s long running sci fi comedy manga & anime series Urusei Yatsura! Rumiko Takahashi might very well be the most famous manga author & artist, and she was quite young when she created the Urusei Yatsura manga in 1978! It ran for many years, and there were over 200 episodes of the TV series and several movies that started in the early 1980’s! Rumiko Takahsashi later went on to create Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Mermaid Forest, One Pound Gospel, Rumilk Theater, Inu Yasha and Rin-ne!
Urusei Yatsura starts with the arrival of the aliens from Oniboshi, who cross paths with the students of Tomboki High School, and after a contest, their princess Lum Invader determined that Japanese boy Ataru Morobosh was her fiance, to the dismay of his cute friend Shinobu! Ataru was a notorious lech, so you might think that he’d be all for the romance with the affectionate, beautiful flying Green haired princess in the tiger striped bikini, but in this case love can hurt a lot, when the fiance is quick tempered, super-powered, and can electrocute those who make her angry, as Ataru often did!
Things would only get more ‘n more wacky ‘n complicated by rest of the human, alien & spirit girls, guys & critter characters of the cast! Lum was voiced by Hirano Fumi, and Ataru was voiced by Toshio Furukawa who was one of the special guests at Animazement back in May! The manga has been distributed in the US by Viz, and the anime was distributed by Animeigo, which is not far from here in Wilmington, and you might see some UY items & cosplayers at cons! That is it and for more information I recommnend the Rumiko Takhashi fan site, Rumki World http://www.furinkan.com!
How about Neytiri te Tskaha Mo’at’ite and the other striped jungle cat girls in Avatar, nya?
Well, not all stripes are of the tiger breed, but either way, she was in the March 2011 spotlight, nya!
Oh by the way, the 3d edition of Avatar is now available DVD, with Zoe Saldana as Ney’tiri on the front of the box!
Captain Amelia is on the cover of the 10th anniversary edition of Treasure Planet!
Not only that but Salma Hayek is so purretty on the November cover of Harper’s Bazarre, and former Cat Woman Halle Berry has graced the November cover of In Style Magazine!
Oh oh and on the cover of ImagineFX magazine’s How to draw & Paint Comic Art special issue is Genzoman’s pic of the Purple haired catgirl and the cats, beside Alex Garner’s pic of Wonder Woman!
She seems the nicer catgirl than Wonder Woman’s villain The Cheetah, who we will discuss later, nya!
I think we digress from the tigress.
There’s a tiger in the trailer for Ang Lee’s movie Life of Pi too!
Well…there is a nice tiger by the pool in the Mountain Dew commercial!
The commercial for the Maybelline Cat Eyes Mascara has the cat-eyed supurr model Julia Stegner with the Tiger cub, Lion cub and the Leopard!
Hai hai, but I think we have stray catted off the topic again!
Well that will do it for this month’s spotlight, but, I believe there will be another “Tiger” amongst next month’s catgirls to commemorate! Now let’s proceed with this month’s batch of
Strike Witches 2 DVD / Blu-Ray Combo Boxed Set
Strike Witches is the wonderfully fun anime set in an alternate reality’s 1940’s, but instead of World War II the countries are united against the Neurois alien invaders! To combat the aliens, the international 501st Joint Fighter Wing of Strike Witches’was formed, compurrised of 11 girls with magickal powers, various weapons, and the flying striker unit boots! They tend to favorite the skirts to the pants, so there is the ‘fan service’ of the panties & bath nudity, which might be the lighthearted wacky ribaldry, but it is not hentai! There is also the lovely kemonomimi factor, because when they activate their magick, their animal ears & tails manifest! Each girl’s breed and weapons depends on their nationality, such as Perrine’s Bren Gun & Chartreaux Cat ears, and Charlotte’s P51 style striker unit and bunny ears! Kawaii!
Based upon the manga by Humikane Shimada & Projeckt Kagonfish, Strike Witches is among the many anime TV series we love that is distributed in the USA by Funimation, and for our fond review of the Strike Witches Complete 1st Season DVD set, please see the May 2010 Mew! The main characters are Lt. Col. Mina-Deitlinde Wilke, Maj. Mio Sakamoto, Capt. Gertrude Barkhorn, Lt. Charlotte Yeager, Lt. Erica Hartman, Lt. Perrine-H Clostermann, Lt. Sanya Litvyak, Ens. Francesca Lucchini, Ens. Eila Ilmater Juutilainen, Sgt. Lynette Bishop & Sgt. Yashika Miyafuji, plus their fellow soldiers & family & friends! Season 2 begins the year later in the Spurring of 1945, as the Neurois strike back in the Adriatic with larger & regenerating vehicles, but there are impurrovments amongst the reunited witchy heroines too!
They receive advanced equipment & old – school broom training, Yoshika has more powerful ornate magickal shields, and Sakamoto forges the enchanted Reppumaru sword! Season 2 is compurrised of twelve 25 minute epurrsodes to total of 300 minutes, purrsented in the 16×9 widescreen format on the R1 NTSC DVD disks, and on the 1080p (HD Native) Blu Ray disks. Including it on both the DVD & the Blu Ray disks in the same set might seem redundant and purrhaps the bit purricier, but I suppose you could split it with a friend! The set is is packaged in the very attractive, sturdy 5 1/2″ x 7″ x 1 3/8″ outer box, including the placeholder insert in case you want to put the 1st Season in this same box, although, it would have to be a similar sized edition compurred to the taller 1st Season DVD set that we have!
Within the outer box is the transpurrent Blue plastic case that contains the 2 DVD disks & 2 Blu Ray disks, and the purretty double sided insert art! The audio choices with the optional English subtitles are English 5.1 Surround & Japanese Stereo on the DVD; Dolby True HD English 5.1 and Japanese TrueHD 2.0 on the Blu Ray. TDVD Disk 1 has epurrsodes 1-7 & the front – loaded trailer for Heaven’s Lost Property, and the optional audio commentary for epurrsode 5 by the ADR director Scott Sager with English dub voice actresses Jamie Marchi (Charlotte) and Trina Nishimura (Francesca)! DVD Disk 2 has epurrsodes 8-12, the front loaded trailer for B Gata H Kei: Yamada’s First Time, and the optional audio commentary for epurrsode 9 by Scott Sager with Anastasia Munoz (Mina) and Jade Saxton (Perrine)!
The commentaries are peppy & enthused! Also on Disk 2 are the purreview trailers for 7 other titles, plus textless versions of songs. Strike witches is wonderful for many reasons. The World War II, alien & magickal mecha; lovely character designs & the dazzling FX are so excellently animated! Aside from the heroines’ thrilling aerial combat, or the amewsing sexy fun which I think gets unfairly over hyped, there are delightful slice of life plots & poignant bittersweetness! However, Strike Witch’s greatest assets are in the joyful charm of the endearing characters whose beautiful spirit is accented by the great beauty of the scenery and magick around them, and in their voices, songs, sounds and mewsic, and so I will give Strike Witches 2 the high grade of the “A”! Nyow here is Mie-sensei to tell us all about
Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Four DVD
Arigato, Ny-sensei! We think the animated Clone Wars series is totally awesome for so many reasons! First & foremost are the great characters developed in the thrilling stories, from all the Jedi, clones & politicians to the Sith, droids & bounty hunters! The characters, creatures, mecha, FX & environments are beautifully rendered & animated, with superb color, lighting & editing, blessed by the wonderful voice actors, sound effect & mewsic! We are glad that the series has so many strong female characters, and it is great when Ahsoka or Ventress gracefully spins through the enemy with two light sabers!
There are very interesting developments with Ventress in the 4th season’s final 4 part arc, as Darth Maul returns! In the other 4 part story arcs, Obi -Wan goes undercover as a bounty hunter teamed with Cad Bane, and that’s right after he and Anakain & Ahsoka battle the slavers of Zygerria! There is thrilling action with the clone troopers on the dark planet of Umbara! Ahsoka, R2-D2 & Lux tangle with the Madalorian Death Watch with some poignant droid parts; Jarjar has to step it up at home & abroad, C-3PO & R2-D2 get side tracked on an fun adventure, and I love those totally awesome Patitie fashions!
There’s more of Boba Fett & Bossk, Mother Talzin, The Night Sisters & Savage Opress, Palpatine, Dooku & Grievous, Yoda, Mace Mindu, Kit Fisto, Adi Galla & Plo Koon, Ackbar, Cody, Rex & Fives! There are neat new characters such as Queen Miraj who has the lovely ears, Lattis Razzi with the pretty purrple skin, and like to start off season 4 is the big underwater battle of Mon Cala, with Ahsoka in her Scuba gear! We reviewed that action figure of her last month! Oh, and for our review of the Season Three DVD set, please see the November 2011 Mew! Gosh, the year has like totally flown by, fur shur!
The Season 4 set includes the 22 episodes to total 493 spectacular minutes on the 4 disks, presented in the original widescreen format on the Region 1 NTSC standard DVD, with the language options of English, Spanish & French, with optional English SDH, Spanish & French subtitles! The disks are nicely contained in the hinged tray within the plastic case, inside the cardboard outer sleeve, which bears the embossed image of Darth Maul, craving the revenge! Also enclosed is the episode guide booklet, which unfolds to the 8 3/8″ x 14 1/2″ wild west style wanted poster of the bounty hunters, fur shur!
Five of the episodes are Directors’ Cuts: “Carnage of Krell”, “Escape from Kadavo”, “The Box”, “Massacre”, and “Bounty”! The Special Features are the five entertaining and informative video commentaries for certain story arcs, each with four folks of the series’s crew or cast, who happily discuss the making of the episodes, with behind the scenes footage and looks at the designs & actors! The Battle of Mon Cala commentary is nearly 23 minutes with featuring Supervising Director Dave Filoni, Lead Designer Kilian Plunkett, Animation Supervisor Keith Kellogg and Lighting & FX CG Supervisor Joel Aron!
The Umbra commentary is just over 25 minutes with Filoni, Plunkett, Kellog and Supervisong Editor Jason Tucker! The Slaves of Zygerria commentary is 22 minutes with Filoni, Plunkett, Tucker and writer Henry Gilroy! The Obi-Wan Undercover commentary is about 24 minutes with Filoni, Plunkett, Kellogg and Aron; and finally the Darth Maul Returns commentary is almost 19 minutes with Filoni, writer Katie Lucas, Obi-Wan’s voice actor James Arnold Taylor, and Darth Maul’s voice actor Sam Witwer, fur shur! There are no ads or trailers on the disks, and the main menu wastes no time in starting right up! I was totally pleased with the 4th season and this excellent set, which I will give the grade of an A as in Ahsoka, fur shur! For my next DVD review, I will leave the Star Wars saga for the Alien series’s
So like, Prometheus is director Sir Ridley Scott’s 124 minute purrequel which is set decades prior to the Alien, in which the space ship Prometheus from Earth lands on another planet’s moon in search of the intelligent alien life, but what they encounter is like totally deadly, and to seriously worsen the danger are some unwise behavior & the secret agendas! amongst the crew It stars Noomi Rapace as scientist Elizabeth Shaw, Charlize Theron as the mission’s commander Meredith Vickers, Michael Fassbender as David the artificial human, and Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland the corporate executive!
For our review of the movie to which we gave the very mixed grade of C, please see the July Mew! The R rated movie has been released on several different editions, but like this is just the review of the single disk, Region 1 NTSC standard DVD! The widescreen video is in 2D only, presented in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio, with the optional English SDH & Spanish subtitles in the White bold sans serif font for the Dolby Digital sound choices of English 5.1, Spanish surround 2.0, French surround 2.0, and the English 5.1 Descriptive Service of the female commentator describing what happens on the screen!
Prior to the main menu screen are the ads for the Blu Rays, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and The Raven. These are also listed in the trailers section. While this DVD does have the very good transfer of the movie with the good video & sound quality, unfortunately the special features are sparse. I have not compared this standard DVD to the Blu-Ray version, but compared to the DVDs of the prior Alien movies. Prometheus does not have the goodies such as different versions, commentaries, galleries, featuretttes, isolated music tracks, the screenplay, trailers, or like any of the publicity campaign.
I hoped the DVD might include the Weyland promo videos, but it doesn’t. The only bonus is the almost 11 minutes of 6 deleted & alternate scenes, of the ship’s captain trimming the widdle Christmas tree (68 seconds), the tunnel explorers finding the shedded skin (53 seconds), Weyland’s holographic briefing (94 seconds), Elizabeth & her boyfriend arguing & making out (192 seconds), David in the space suit checking on something (32 seconds), and Meredith’s displeased private chat with Weyland (238 seconds)! Now I would like to review the DVD release of our one of our favorite movies of 2012,
Moonrise Kingdom is about two kids Sam, Suzy on a lovely New England island in 1965 who run away from his scout troop and her family, with her cat to camp on the other side of the island for a respite from their problems, but the parents, scouts & police are on their trail, and there is romance in the air as a fierce storm approaches! The totally superb, beautiful and whimsical tale was directed, co-written & co-produced by Wes Anderson, whose previous credits include Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, The Life Aquatic, and Fantastic Mr. Fox!
The gorgeous 94 minute PG-13 rated movie istars Kara Hayward as Suzy, Jared Gilman as Sam, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray as Suzy’s parents, Bruce Willis as the police chief, Edward Norton, Jason Schwartzman and Harvey Keitel as the scout masters, Tilda Swinton as the social services agent, and Bob Balaban as the narrator, fur shur! For our review of the movie itself, see the August Mew! It is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen on the Region 1 NTSC DVD, with the optional English SDH, French & Spanish subtitles in the White bold sans serif font!
The sound choices of English 5.1, Spanish 5.1, French5.1, and the English Descriptive Service of the female commentator! Prior to the main menu are the smoking PSA and ads for Focus Features, Anna Kerenina, Snow White & The Huntsman, Rosewood Lane, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World… and Paranorman which reviewed in September’s Mew! There are 5 other movie ads amongst the few bonus features, although I don’t tend to think of ads as bonus features! The menu screens are quite tranquil, with shots of the island filmed in Rhode island!
There are 3 widdle bonuses to total 12.5 more amusing minutes, consisting of BIll Murrey’s witty purromo on the house set (189 seconds); another quick look at the movie with scenes and comments (187 seconds); and Bob Balaban’s discussion of the actors, director and the making of the movie (6.25 minutes), That’s not a lot of bonuses, and I haven’t looked to see if the Blu-Ray offers more, but the movie is totally awesome and we will be pleased to watch it on many occasions, fur shur! Mmm, that’s all for my DVD reviews, but now here’s Myayr to tell us about
The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour!
We are big fans of The Beatles and individual members Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr & George Harrison! We like their movies too and it has been such a delightful treat that more of their movies have been released on DVD. For our review of the Yellow Submarine DVD please see the July Mew! The Magical Mystery Tour was the 1967 BBC TV special made by The Beatles, starring them with other actors & purrformers, aboard the bus and the various stops along the way of the amewsing expurrdition! It has the impurrovised free – form feel with the merry, wacky, odd, fantasy, psychedelic & mewsical scenes during the road trip through England, with the whimsical encounters, dream sequences, and the visits to the army the recruiter, the race, the lunch, and the magicians’ laboratory!
There is the much wonderful mewsic throughout this mystery tour, such as The Beatles purrforming their great songs I am the Walrus, Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, Flying, The Fool on the Hill, and the peppy title song! Other tunes sammiched amongst the excursion are the calliope version of She Loves You for the race sequence, the symphonic version of All My Loving for the romantic dream scene, the passengers’ medley accompanied by accordionist Shirley Evans, and the Death Cab for Cutie song, purrformed by vocalist Viv Stanshall and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band who accompany purretty Jan Carson’s strip tease scene near the end of the jaunt! Sir George Martin was the purrducer of the original recordings, and Giles Martin purrduced the 2012 sound restoration!
The 53 minute feature is officially available from Apple Films on the DVD, purrsented in the full frame format of the 1.33:1 screen aspect ratio, in the English language with the optional audio / subtitle commentary track by Paul McCartney, in the audio choices of Dolby Digital Stereo, DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 and optional subtitles in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portugues, Nederland, Svenska, Suomi, Danks & Norsk, plus the 53 minutes of special features! The front cover art is like that of the original album of John, Paul, George & Ringo in the furry costumes amidst the psychedelic graphics, and although the packaging does not recreate the booklet of the original Magical Mystery Tour vinyl LP, but there is enclosed the neat widdle 8 page booklet of the notes, credits, art & photos!
The special features include the 19 minute Making of Magical Mystery Tour featurette of the look behind the scenes peppurred by the recent comments by Paul & Ringo, the archival comments by John & George, and the contributions by fan club secretaries Sylvia Kightingale & Jeni Crowley, journalist Chris Welch, former BBC1 Controller Sir Paul Fox, purrducer Gavrick Losey, cameraman Michael Sersin, editor Ray Bentin, and mewsician Neil Innes! There is the nearly 11 minute long Meet the Supporting Cast featurette, compurrised of the outtakes, text & the bits of the archival footage of Jessie Robins (Ringo’s Aunt), Nat Jackley (Rubber Man), Ivor Cutler (Mr. Bloodvessel), Victor Spinetti (Sergeant), George Clayton (photographer), Derek Royale (Jolly Jimmy), and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band!
Other widdle video tidbits ranging from 2-4 minutes apiece include Ringo The Actor, the Hello Goodbye B&W purromo video from the Top of the Pops show, and the unused segments of Nat’s Dream set to the Shirley’s Wild Accordion song, and I’m Going in a Field purrformed by Ivor Cutler; the video of Here We Go Round The Mullberry Bush by the rock band Traffic, and the behind the scenes / alternate takes of The Fool on the Hill, Your Mother Should Know, and the Blue Jay Way segments! I am very pleased by the newly restored audio / visual quality and the good wealth of the stuff on the DVD, which I will heartily recommend to the Betales fans! I hope that the The Beatles’ Let It Be purrformace might also be released on DVD! Next I would like to discuss
Galaxy Express 999 Eternal Fantasy!
Galaxy Express 999 is one of the most famous manga & anime of all time! It was created in 1977 by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto whose credits include Space Battleship Yamato, Emereldas, Queen Millennia, Captain Harlock, and Interstella 555! It is such a grand cosmic epic series starring Maetel who is one of the most elegant beautiful women of anime, and Tetsuo who is the feisty orphan kid from Earth aboard the intergalactic vehicle which resembles a coal – fired JNR C62 train! Eternal Fantasy is a 54 minute movie from Toei Animation released in 1998, and it is set one year after the events of the 135 minute Adieu Galaxy Express 999 movie released in 1981, which was set 2 years after the 128 minute Galaxy Express 999 released in 1979. We reviewed those movies in the September 2011 Mew!
It is just the beginning of yet another magnificent journey through the cosmos, Tetsuo is rescued from the brutal chains on Earth to return to the 999 with his cute widdle kitty Mii, for the reunion with Maetel, Conductor, the 999’s A.I, Claire the stewardess in her new glass body, and Cannon the E-Fairy who gives Mii a train ticket! The upgraded train hauls the tender car, 11 passenger cars & caboose! Maetel is the majestic vision standing on the rear platform, her long Blond hair flowing in the stellar wind! Past the outer planets at the splendiferous Bright-Ring Fairy Station they meet Iselle & her father who run the train station & inn, but are attacked at the hot spurring amidst the fireflies, by Helmazaria the Dimensional Knight & her Helium 3 soldiers of the Metanoid Empire, which threatens to destroy the galaxy!
Emereldas, Harlock and The Yamato are briefly seen amongst the exquisite, tranquil, thrilling, sad, catastrophic & amewsing scenes, but I should not further spoil the plot of the movie which is the start of the beautiful, chilling & tragic odyssey! Based upon Matsumoto’s work, it was scripted by Junki Takegami, directed by Konosuke Uda, with the animation direction & character designs by Takahiro Kagami that are faithful to Matsumoto’s iconic style, accompanied by Kouhei Tanaka’s glorious symphonic score purrformed by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra! There are 2 beautiful songs, “Galaxy Express 999 Mother” composed & arranged by Tanaka, with lyrics by Kayoko Fuyumari sung by Sakoto Yoshioka; and “Brave Love Galaxy Express 999” composed by Toshikio Takamizawa & sung by The Alfee!
The supurrb voice cast includes Masako Ikeda as Maetel, Masako Nozawa as Tetsuro, Yoshiko Sakakibara as Helmazaria, Kaneta Kimotsuki as Conductor, Keiko Toda as Cannon, Yuko Minaguchi as Claire, Noriko Hidaka as Iselle, Kazuya Tatekabe as her father, and Kouichi Yamadera as Harlock! The movie was released on the R1 NTSC DVD by Discotek & Eastern Star. The no-frills package has just the disk in the case with the gorgeous cover art. The video is of the 16:9 anamorphic widescreen with the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, in Japanese with optional English subtitles. There are trailers for the 3 Galaxy Express 999 movies, no special features, and the movie may be short, but it is stunningly sweet, poignant and at the low purrice! That is all of our DVD reviews, but nyow here is Lizzy to bring the
Reviews of Recent Theatrical Releases!
Atlas Shrugged Part II: The Strike!
Hai! For our review of Atlas Shrugged Part 1, see the June 2011 Mew! That was the same month we reviewed Thor! I should remind folks that here at The Mew we do not get into politics or philosophy which seem to be a big part of the plot, so this is just the movie review! Also, because I haven’t read the famous huge novel or any of Ayn Rand’s other books, I do not have an opinion of how faithfully the movies might adapt the novel. The movie is a dystopian science fiction story in the near future to focus upon the industriousness & romance between heroic purrotagonists Dagny Taggart the railroad executive & Hank Reardon the steel tycoon, amidst the economic catastrophe, the supurr high purrice inflations, draconian laws, mysterious incidents and the disappearances of famous geniuses!
They are at odds with their dreadful families and the oppressive government, as more geniuses and maestros of the various purrofessions mysterious leave. Meanwhile, Dagny and Hank have secretly discovered a supurr advanced engine that could change the world, as they cope with industrial disasters and try to solve the big riddle of “Who is John Galt?” The first thing I noticed about this sequel is that the characters have been totally recast! This time the cast includes Samantha Mathis as Dagny, Patrick Fabian as her brother James, Richard T Jones as her assistant Eddie, Jason Beghe as Hank, Kim Rhodes as his wife Lillian, Esai Morales as their friend Francisco who owns the copurr mines, Paul McCrane as the politician Wesley Mouch, and DB Sweeny as the mysterious John Galt!
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Armin Shimmerman does not return, but Star Trek: Voyager’s Robert Picardo has a role! The great cast also includes Diedrich Bader as Quentin the engineer who Dagny hires to study the engine, Larisa Oleynik as James’s new wife Cheryl, Arye Gross as coal company owner Danagger, and Patricia Tallman as his secretary Holly! That is the same Patricia Tallman who Vonny mentioned in the Lightning Round! and several famous folks from the Fox Network appurr as themselves, such as Tamara Holder, Juan Williams, Bob Beckel and Sean Hannity. Ray Wise and Michael Gross are also in the movie full of heroic speeches, nice planes, trains & automobiles, and the lovely fashions for Holly, Lillian, Cheryl & Dagny, accessorized by the lovely shoes and jewelry!
Another difference is Part 2 ‘s bigger, shiner look, as if it has a bigger budget & higher purroduction values with the more cinematic sheen, whereas the purrior movie looked a bit like a made-for-TV movie. There are more sci fi elements and some of the vehicles are futuristic, but some of the FX did not impurress me quite enough, and the zoom shots & slow mo were too distracting. Part 2 has good mewsic score, and although the movie is slightly longer than Part 1, it still felt rather rushed. Both have nice sets, beautifully photographed locations and cliffhangers. I think Part 2 is the better of the 2, so hopefully it might continue to Part 3 because i am curious as to what happens next and where Galt’s trail has lead Dagny and those other missing purrsons! Nextly we will go from the shrugged Atlas to the
Arigato, Myayr! We have the mixed feelings about The Wachowskis siblings’ The Matrix series, V for Vendetta and Speed Racer, but they tend to be very innovative, exciting, full of the FX & mecha, and the great actors such as Hugo Weaving, so our ears were purrked with the great interest when we heard about their epic three hour adaptation of the book Cloud Atlas, with the beautiful imagery and the all – star cast! We also think it is neat how The Wachowski are the filmmaking family! Oh oh by the way, for our review of their Speed Racer movie, please see the June 2008 Mew!
Cloud Atlas is the nonlinear tale of the romance & purrpose of the reincarnated folks whose fates are twined together through vast time and space, whose interwoven destinies reflect and build upon their purrior lives of the six eras and are purrtrayed by the great actors in the multiple roles! The six tales chronologically include the 19th century nautical voyage to pacific islands amidst slavery & treachery; which is read about by the struggling symphony composer in Europe of the 1930’s; whose dear companion we meet again as the older nuclear scientist in the 1970’s conspiracy!
He meets the investigative journalist whose tales of danger are read by the elderly publisher in 2012 who dodges the thugs and winds up involuntarily committed to the nursing home; his inspurrational tale is in turn read in 22nd century Korea by the freedom fighter and the poor slave clone girl, who becomes the deified inspurration to the islanders of the post-apocalyptic far future! They are visited by the ship on the mission of the advanced culture, which has the purrallel to the first tale, and leads to the coda of the framing-sequence set years later, but that is all I should reveal!
The magnificient, poignant, beautiful, captivating movie based upon the novel by David Mitchell was written & directed by by Lana Wachowski, Andy Wachowski & Tom Tykwer! It stars Doona Bae, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Zhou Xun, Jim Broadbent, James D’Arcy, Keith David, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving and Ben Whishaw who give the brilliant purrformances in the mutliple roles, with the amazing make-up, purrosthetics, coiffures, costumes, dialogue & dialects to create the characters on the gorgeously photographed great sets & locations!
Hugo Weaving has the 6 roles of different periods, ethnicities & genders! The other actors, stunts, art direction, cinematography, editing, visual FX & mewsic are wonderful too! The tale of the multi-cultural & historical romance, humor, drama, mystery, shock, action, tragedy, sacrifice, heroism & legends unfolds at the purropurr pace which is not rushed as many movies are these days, and I was immersed & captivated for the entire 3 hours! I think it is the Wachowski’s best movie, one of my favorite movies of the year thus far, and I will give it the high purraise of the A grade!
