Mielikki:

It is good that Ilyana has been spending more time on the island of late!

Ilyana:

Arigato! Fortunately it has been rather conducive since Jenjen’s Robotics Club has purrvided the ROV (Remote Opurrated Vehicle) to help with the underwater archaeology!

Jeannie:

By the way, the repairs to your ROV should be completed by tomorrow afternoon.

Ilyana:

Arigato! So what have Trini-chan and Tara-chan been up to?

Trini-chan:

We have been volunteering at the mewseum, and I have been surfing with Kara and Myayr when she has the chance!

Tara-chan:

Aside from the classes, the mewseum, my nature journal, caring for our cats, and – and helping Onee-chan with the fishing charters, nya!

Yvonne:

Hai she has been the big help with the charters, nya! It has been the good month with the big catch of the Blue Fins, Blue Fish, Sea Bass, Speckled Trout, Snapurrs and Stripurrs, nya! So what has Jenjen been up to besides the robots and the dance, nya?

Jeannie:

The yoga, the Winter Kyudo tournyament, watching Doctor Who and Torchwood DVDs, and purrparing for the awards ceremony. My belly dance troupe will be purrforming there tonight.

Yvonne:

Hai they are accompanied by my drum circle, and the Taiko club will be purrforming there too, nya!

Mary Nyan:

Hai hai my advance hula dance class will be there and so will will Mie-sensei’s foxfire juggling team!

Becca:

How are things aside from the class?

Mary Nyan:

Otherwise it has been the shrine, catching the occasional wave and sewing the costumes!

Becca:

I can’t wait to see the finished beautiful costumes!

Mary Nyan:

I will notify y’all when they are finished!

Trini-chan:

What have Lizzy and Becca been up to?

Elizabeth:

Aside from our spa and shrine hours and the occasional hot salsa dance, I have purrsued the purrkour and tended to the Winter gardening! I have also been reading and watching the videos but I have not been gaming much of late!

Nyanko:

Purrhaps y’all should dance at the next festival or ceremony, nya!

Becca:

Oh the hot salsa is just for fun, we are not of the purrformance or compurrtition level!

Elizabeth:

Becca’s turn!

Becca:

It has been bustling at the spa but in the relaxed manner, and the cats get the attention on their garden purrtrol! Speaking of the video, I have been watching the wonderful Emily of the New Moon series, and purrchased the mew carbon hybrid putter and the sand wedge!

Nyanko:

With your power and accuracy you really should consider the next supernatural golf tour!

Becca:

I enjoy it for the occasional fun, but I am not sure about the purrofessional competitive commitment such as Mie-sensei’s golf or Nya-sensei’s dojo, and it is her turn nyow!

Nyanko:

Oh I have been busy at the dojo, purrparing for the tournyaments, The Mew and the ceremonies! Some of my dojo students have enjoyed the good cross – training with Jenjen’s kyudo club and Lizzy’s purrkour club! Otherwise I have been reading the comics, manga and watching the anime! Your turn, sis!

Nyoka:

I have been spending most of my time at the shop and the farmers market, studying the magick and reading the comics! By the way, I believe this is 1st anniversary of Bunnibun’s Mew debut!

Petra:

Yattahh, nya!

Bun:

Arigato!

Yvonne:

Since The Mew has expanded to more than just critical catgirls, I wonder if we should start calling something else, nya?

Bun:

Oh no it is fine fine! It should keep the tradition along with the kind hearted spirit!

Mielikki:

Fur shur!

Bun:

Ah well anyway as for me, since the last time I have been reading, gardening, baking the carrot cakes, playing beach volleyball, and tending to the mewseum! Petra’s turn!

Petra:

The Mewseum, the volleyball, the reading, and the various local artisan meetings, nya! By the way, at our next mewseum meeting we will discuss this year’s body art show, so hopefully Nyoka, Tara-chan and Trini-chan  will be there!

Nyoka, Tara-chan & Trini-chan:

Hai! (Tara-chan adds the “nya”)

Petra:

Bun and I have wonderful mew art to tell y’all about which has freshly added to Guest Gallery 2, but that will wait until after Mie-sensi and Mike’s turn, nya!

Mielikki:

So like, when i am not at the theatre on on the golf tour, I am so looking forward to the conventions and festivals, especially WhatTheHell?! Con http://wthcon.guilcoyachting.org, fur shur!

Elizabeth:

We should announce that WhatTheHell?! Con 12 will convene on February 15-17 2013 at lovely Guilford College, on the mainland in Greensboro, NC, and – and Mike will be among the guests there again!

Mike:

Yep I am very honored and look forward to the wonderful time!

Mary Nyan:

There are so many friendly talented people there from the con staff & college employees to the guests, dealers and the others in the fun attendance!

Tara-chan:

I hope that we can attend too, nya! I want… I want to see the art, the costumes, the auction, and – and the purrformances, nya!

Ilyana:

Just bundle up, because it is much nippier on the mainland!

Mike:

I went to a fun toy show  at the state fairgrounds, and I’m looking forward to WhatTheHellCon?!, ah, and otherwise I’ve been reading, watching some ACC basketball, and trying to get more art, design & writing done… that’s about it!

Mielikki:

What did you see at the toy show?

Mike:

Oh it was a beautiful weekend of about 77 degrees which was almost a record warmth! I saw our friends ob1, Pacozord, Chef Ron and other familiar faces! The items were mainly action figures, dolls, antique toys, cars, sports cards and memorabilia… and then all the other things at the weekend fairground flea market & stores! People there walking their dogs of all breeds, there were a lot of nice cars, hotrods & motorcycles, so it was rather pleasant… but let’s move along and hear about those

Additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!

Bun:

This month we re proud to present 5 more images to Guest Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html of  the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! For those who are here for the first time, Galleries 1-5 are the exhibits of Mike’s illustrations and photographs, whilst Guest Galleries 1 & 2 display the images from other folks with their kind permissions! On the web site, the most recent pics are on the bottom row of the widdle “thumbnail” portions, so just click on one  of the ‘thumbnails’ to see the entire image!

That includes 3 new faerie illustrations rendered with the Photoshop & Wacom Intuos3 tablet by our friend & September 2009 guest Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com! These beautiful images are close to home and our hearts because they depict Mielikki-sensei, Alaua’mina-sensei and Wyrdina-sensei at The Faeries’ Forest Grove Theatre, the intimate outdoor ampitheatre nestled amongst the boulders in the maritime forest which is just a bit north of here! It is the perfect place for the day hikers’ picnic!

Firstly of the trio is the morning scene of Alaua’mina-sensei, the manager & artistic director of the the theatre, wearing the ruffled off-shoulder, bare-midriff top with the matching boots & fluttery skirt as the Bluejay perches upon her arm! Secondly is the afternoon scene of Wyrdina-sensei in the beautiful Blue outfit with the shimmering Gold trim & accents to match her wings! Thirdly is the moonlight scene of our Mielikki-sensei in the iridescent Green outfit that accents her Emerald eyes! Whatchoo think, Mie-sensei?

Mielikki:

(cries) I’m not worthy! Waahh!

Lizzy:

Her wings are blushing so the art seems to be the emotional success!

Becca:

Hai, but Mie-sensei’s happy tears are like the waterfall!

Tara-chan:

I will get the tissues, nya! (she scampurrs to the restroom)

Petra:

Rebecca’s beautiful art adds to the joyful ambience of the guest galleries, nya!

Nyoka:

Hai, she is so heartful, purroficient & purrolific the artist of the fantasy & nature imagery!

Jeannie:

She splendidly captured the translucent cellular purropurrties of our friends’ wings, the texture & mass of the boulders & the stage.

Trini-chan:

Hai and the trees are so lushly rendered! When I am not surfing, I like to curl up with the books and the treats in that grove!

Mary Nyan:

It is the uncanny likeness of Alaua-sensei, from the sheen of her Brown hair to the gleam of her Purrple Amethyst-like eyes!

Nyanko:

Hai hai and the widdle details seem very accurate, from the tapurr of her supple ears to the curve of her inny belly button!

Ilyana:

Rebecca also purrfectly illustrated graceful Dina-sensei’s lovely long Snowy hair and Oaken tan complexion!

Yvonne:

The shading is supurrb and the outfit matches her Sapphire like Blue eyes and Shimmering Golden wings, nya!

Mike:

Mie-sensei’s Golden hair has the lovely shimmer in the moonlight as she conjures the ball of light in the beautiful scene!

Tara-chan:

(returns) The tissues, nya!

Mielikki:

(sniff) Arigato, Tara-chan!

Bun:

Also in Guest Gallery 2 is the beautiful fan art pic of Aria’s Maa & Alice on a “Boat Ride” by Misty Hopkins http://bunnychai.blogspot.com who was among our guests for March 2008! Kozue Amano’s Aria is the beautiful slice of life science fiction manga & anime about the undine girls of the gondola tour companies at the canal city of Neo-Venezia, on the planet Mars which is terraformed, covered in water and renamed Aqua in the future! Each company has the mascot cat affectionately called their President, such as Maa, the cute widdle Martian kitten shown purrched upon the shoulder of Alice Carroll of the Orange Planet Company! The medium is the Prisamcolor pens & White colored pencil, Crayola colored pencils, and White gel pen!

Our 5th new pic is another great image of Star Trek’s “Lt. M’Ress on Shore Leave” by Natalia Lopes http://theartslave.deviantart.com! She and her sister Thais http://angelofhappiness.deviantart.com were among our guests for October 2010! M’Ress is of the Caitian species and she was among the communications officers of the starship USS Enterprise in the 1973 animated Star Trek series, in which her tranquil purring voice was provided by actress Majel Barrett! This is our second M’Ress pic by Natalia, depicting the starfleet catgirl out of her uniform and in the bikini with the tasty beverage on the beach! The medium is Photoshop CS3 & Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet!

Mielikki:

It is such a happy cute seen with the splendid blue sky and sea!

Lizzy:

Misty purrfectly captured the happy expurression and the colors of Panda breed kitten! Kawaii!

Jeannie:

Misty has such purroficiency and sensitivity with the pencils and the inks.

Becca:

Hai, and she faithfully captured Alice’s gorgeous Green hair and the details of the Yellow & White Summer uniform!

Nyoka:

Aria is my favoritest Japanese manga & anime series of the 2000’s!

Tara-chan:

I wish the rest of the manga would be published in the USA, nya!

Petra:

We are so blessed to have the wonderful art by Misty and Natalia in the Mewseum, nya!

Mary Nyan:

Misty, Natalia, and her sister Thais are the very multi-talented artists & cosplayers!

Nyanko:

M’Ress looks so pleased on the sunny beach with the tasty beverage and the contented tail!

Yvonne:

I love the highlights & sheen upon her sun glasses, hair, skin, eyes, bracelet & the glass, nya!

Trini-chan:

I wonder what is in the martini glass? Perhaps it has the taste of the alien grape!

Ilyana:

I would like to try the alien grape! The Starfleet emblem on her bikini is the nice touch too!

Mike:

We have another wonderful batch of art! Thank you for the art tour, Bun!

Bun:

Dooitashimaste! That is all of the art portion, and now here is Ilyana to start our

Book & Comic Book Reviews with

Dragonbreath vol. 8: Nightmare of the Iguana!

Ilyana:

Ursula Vernon http://www.ursulavernon.com, who was our special guest for May 2009, is the great artist  & author known for her beautiful wildlife & fantasy art, her anthropomorphic web comic Digger, and Dragonbreath storybooks! The Dragonbreath books are the purrofusely illustrated & supurr fun widdle 5 7/8″ x 7 1/4″ hardcovers published by Penguin Books’ Dial impurrint! Some of them are also nyow available in the trade papurrback editions! The series is for the younger & older readers and purrtains to the adventures of Danny Dragonbreath the dragon boy, along with his family & class mates such as his best friend Wendell the iguana boy, Christiana the Crested Lizard girl, and Suki the Salamander girl!

They explore the mysterious, dangerous incidents, encounter the interesting creatures, and deal with the home & school situations! We have purreviously reviewed all of her Dragonbreath books, such as our october 2012 review of Dragonbreath vol. 7: When Fairies Go Bad, and since then we eagerly awaited the release of Dragonbreath #8: Nightmare of the Iguana! The 204 page book is purriced $12.99 US & $13.99 Canada, and it has many many delightful two-color illustrations, including a bunch of the half – page pics, full – page pics, and the two-page spurreads, which depict the journey into the dream lands to investigate Wendell’s nightmares, which are haunted by numerous supurrnatural creatures!

This seemed to be the most surreal tale of the series, with the great designs, renderings, whimsical & eerie moments in the captivating plot for the brave, heroic characters! Some of my favorite scenes are the trip through the bamboo grove the Danny’s Great – Grandfather’s house, the return of Suki, recruiting the cute Baku help at the hot spurring, the vast library, the horses, the wicked villain and the waffle scene, but i should spoil the plot further! I will recommend the book fans of the anthropomorphic tales & art! Nyow we will go from the dream lands of the haunted mind to the slayage in San Francisco as Nya-sensei tells us about

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #17!

Nyanko:

Arigato! The officially canonical 9th season of Buffy supurrbly continues in the 28 page comic book purriced $2.99 from Dark Horse, and compurrised of the 22 page tale “Welcome To The Team Part Two”, plus the 2 pages of the readers’ & editor’s always interesting comments, and the 4 pages of the ads! The script by Andrew Chambliss was purrduced by Joss Whedon, pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Dexter Vines, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn, Scott Allie & assitantly edited Freddye Lins!

It is available in the choice of 2 different covers, one by Phil Noto beautifully depicting Buffy & Illyria with the portraiture that looks just like Sarah Michelle Geller & Amy Acker; and the variant cover art by the supurrb team of Jeanty, Madsen & Vines depicting the purrofile faces of Buffy, Illyria & Koh! I have been so very happy with the faithful resemblance of the characters, and how greatly expurressive & dynamically posed they are in these comics, which is good because there is so much action, emotion, advancement of the plot & mythology in this issue, which picks up right where issue #16 left off!

Purreviously, Buffy, Billy & Detective Dowling were trying to slay the huge nest of the zompires, when Buffy magikally disappurred, leaving Dowling to get chomped! Buffy was telepurrted from there by Illyria, the supurr powerful, ancient beautiful demon who we have long hoped to return! Meanwhile at Dawn & Xander’s, poor Dawn has been taken ill, and Xander has not been very polite to her! This issue resumes the tale on the urgent note, as Dowling’s fellow policemen arrive just in time like the calvary to finish the zompires and get him to the hospital! Soon Xander & Dawn are there too!

It is the ironic timing because poor Dawny’s situation becomes critical! Elsewhere, her sister Buffy has the purrlay with not just Illyria, but several other extremely powerful entities, including another familiar face from the TV show, D’Hoffryn! This meeting sets up the vital mission for Buffy, Illyira & Koh to confront another of Buffy’s deadly enemies, and gosh I am so eager to find out hat happens next, but I will not spoil the cliffhanger surpurrise! This was yet another consistently great issue with the thrilling bloody slayage action, and the great dialogue & development of the wonderful old & mew characters!

The art is of the mewsual excellence, with the greatly rendered characters, scenery, FX, colors and the fonts which purropell the story at the purrfect pace! We are all cheering for Buffy to crush her enemy and we are purraying for her sister to be well soon! Also as mewsual it is quite interesting to read the comments by the editor other readers, and this issue’s batch of reader mail purrtains to Billy the slayer rookie & his watcher Devon, who I think are good additions to the tale, especially with so many of Buffy’s friends busy elsewhere! Speaking of which, nyow here is Mie-sensei to tell us what is happening in

Spike #5!

Mielikki:

So like, previously in this 5 issue mini series set betwixt Buffy Season 9 #10 and Angel & Faith #18, Spike was fed up with the state of his relationship with Buffy, so he left San francisco with his space ship & insectoid crew, but got hijacked by demons who demanded the trip to the crater once known as Sunnydale, to find any fragments of the powerful magick seed which Buffy destroyed in season 8, but instead they found Morgan, the sexy demon girl with the lovely wings who helped Spike against he hijackers and Angels’ enemies Pearl & Nash. Spike’s loyal crew feared that she was just using Spike, which proved justified when she jumped ship at Easter Island, and she is like seriously  intent on opening the Hellmouth portal there with a hidden sliver of the seed!

This brings us to the totally awesome final chapter of “A Dark Place Part 5 of 5”, which was scripted by Victor Gischler, produced by Joss Whedon. pencilled by Paul Lee with Cliff Richards, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Cris Peter, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie with assistant editor Freddye Lins! The $2.99 issue has the 28 full color pages, which are comprised of the 22 page story, the 2 pages of mail, and the 4 pages of ads! It is available in the 2 different covers, one by Jenny Frison and the other by Steve Morris! The action resumes as Spike leaps from the ship to the island below to stop Morgan, but not before she activates the stone monoliths, which rise up to chase them both!

The monoliths are so cool looking but they are not very cordial, and like not only do they attack, but merge to form a single colossal stone giant! This issue has the great mix of magick, combat, humor, heroism, tragedy & surprises for the climactic conclusion! I think overall this mini series has been a lot of merry fun with a few poignant moments that I’ll not reveal, with a good pace & dialogue. Morgan is a neat new character with such lovely wings, and there were many fine moments for Sebastian, Frisky and the rest of the crew! The art is quite nice, with the good expressions, poses of the characters, nice detail &excellent panel composition, graphic effects, lettering & coloring that all splendidly benefit the storytelling, fur shur! Now here is Jenjen to tell us about

Angel & Faith #18!

Jeannie:

Arigato. In the “Death and Consequences” story full of flashbacks to the late Rupert ‘Ripper’ Giles’s younger years, Angel & Faith have been trying resurrect him in London, but his body has been stolen & possessed by evil Ethan Rayne, who has lead Nadira & other slayers into a demonic trap. This brings us up to Part 3 of the 4 part arc which was was scripted by Chistos Gage, produced by Joss Whedon, illustrated by Rebekah Isaacs, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie with Freddye Lins. The $2.99 issue includes the 22 page tale, 2 pages of readers’ comments, 4 pages of ads, and 2 different covers to choose from, one by Steve Morris and the other by Isaacs & Jackson.

After another flashback to Giles in his punk band days with a brief appurrance by his displeased Grandmother, the action then resumes in the purresent where issue #17 left off in Rayne’s mansion, with Nadira’s team surrounded by zombies controlled by the giant demon Eyghan. The girls put up the fierce fight in the bloody melee, but every unconscious person falls under the demon’s spell. Angel & Faith arrive to help five of them barely escape amidst much purropurrty damage, but the demon is too tough to defeat with normal weapons, still has the possessed hostages as minions, and threatens to purrey upon their family & friends.

Angel, Faith, Nadira and the 4 other slayers then retreat to the lair of Alasdair the sorcerer, amidst his home full of pixies and a cute winged Black cat, to mend the injuries, research the threat, arm themselves with magickal hardware, and find a big surpurrise at the door in the exciting cliffhanger. This was yet another great issue in the consistently excellent series with the great plot, pace, continuity, characters & dialogue which are so beautifully written, lettered, drawn & colored. It has all I could hope for, including the right balance of the drama, humor, character development, mythology & thrilling action as an awesome part of the canonical Buffy Season 9. Nyow here to tell us about yet another wonderful part of Season 9 is Nyo-sensei, who seems very pleased to purresent her review of

Willow #3!

Nyoka:

Hai, Buffy’s brave, brainy, beautiful, bewitching best friend Willow Rosenberg is among our favoritest characters, so we were so happy that she got her own spin-off comic which is part of Buffy Season 9, and occurs after Angel & Faith #14! When Buffy smashed the magick seed in Season 8, that disrupted the flow of magick into their world, so since then Willow has been trying to make the magick return! Armed with the scythe, she has been on the quest for an extradimensional source to replenish the magick to the earth, which has lead her to the “Wonderland” of the many monsters, mages and reunion with her lover Aluwyn, the gorgeous green Naga girl with the purretty White hair and the long snake body below the hips! She appurrs in this issue too, and on one of the two covers!

It is the romantic painted cover art by Megan Lara depicting Aluwyn & Willow! The other cover art is the surreal abstract art by David Mack depicting naked Willow amidst the coils & symbols! I think both of the beautiful illustrations would be the great posters! Sammiched betwixt the covers are the 28 pages, compurrised of the the 4 pages of the ads, the 2 pages of readers’ & editor’s comments and the 22 page tale! “Wonderland Part 3” was  was scripted by Jeff Parker & Christos Gage, pencilled by Brian Ching, inked by Jason Gorder, colored by Michelle Madsen, and has the same letterers, editors, designer & purrducer as those aforementioned Buffy Season 9 comics! We also enjoy Gage’s writing on Angel & Faith, and we sure do miss his great Avengers Academy comic book!

Purreviously in Wonderland, Willow met Marrak the sorcerer, several monsters, and the many witchy women of the idyllic coven! They are of the various races, and species who reside in the village of the glorious architecture & landscape, but nyow they have the disagreement with Marrak and want to banish him from the village! In this issue, Willow meets more of the enchantresses, tries to use the scythe, explores the land, sea and skies above, and has several delightful wardrobe changes! Oh there are such beautiful & romantic scenes & amazing creatures above and below the waters, and I purrticularly enjoyed the serene fireside moments, the giant anemone & octopus encounters, and Willow’s soaring sylph-like scene, but it might be the purradise from which she will not wish to return from!

I can’t wait to see what happens next, if she will choose to stay there or to continue the quest that might return her & the magick home! The scenery, clothes & creatures are so majestic & alluring with the gorgeous colors & whimsical style for the characters! Willow’s expurressions are so supurrb! She has such a happy, determined purrplexed, miffed & fascinated time, with the peppy pixie-like quality & cute short Red hair! On one hand I wish this was the purrmanant series, but I also wish she & Buffy & the others were reunited back home! I will continue to give this lovely & delightful tale the grade of the “A” as in Alyson Hannigan! Nyow for more magickal here is Tara-chan to discuss

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #2!

Tara-chan

Yay I love ponies and – and I have been wanting my own pony too, nya! I would like the Banker Pony, nya! We are fans of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated TV series, so we were eager to get our paws upon this comic book published by IDW, nya! I gave the 1st issue the “A” grade, with the enthused craving for the 2nd issue which I would like to nyow purraise, nya! The 2nd issue purriced at $3.99 was also published with the many variant covers, and – and on the inside of the covers you can see the gallery of over a dozen covers, nya! Many of those are exclusive to certain retailers, nya. Covers A, B and – and C connect  to make the panoramic triptych, scene of the ponies in the forest, which is the hint of what happens in “The Return of Queen Chrysalis Part II”, nya!

The full color 28 page issue has the 21 pages of the chapter followed the handy map, the IDW mews page, and- and the 5 pages of the ads, nya! I definitely purrfur it when the tale is uninterrupted, with the ads & bonuses all afterwards, nya! The tale was drawn by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Robbie Robbins edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and written by Katie Cook who illustrated the triptych, nya! One of the variant covers is by Stephanie Buscema, nya! In the 1st issue, fillies Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and – and Sweetie Belle embarked upon the latest expurrdition to get the cutie marks, but they got caught by the evil Changelings of Queen Chrysalis, nya!  That was just the tip of the evil trouble ahoof, as many other friends were transformed into zombie types, nya!

Issue #2 starts as Apple Jack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Twliight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and – and Fluttershy begin the mission through the caves, the mines, and- and the  lair of the giant spider, to rescue the 3 fillies from the Changeling Kingdom, whilst the Queen spies on them, nya! This issue was so much fun with the wonderful characters in the whimsical, spooky plot, with the amewsing dialogue, the purrfect pace, the beautiful art in the gorgeous color, the faithful style, the ponies expurressions, their poses, and – and their gestures, and- and I like the cutely illustrated full – page map which is very informative, nya! I think thus far this series is excellent, and I will give the 2nd issue the “A” grade with the continued craving for the next issue, nya! OK I am all done, so it is Myayr’s turn, nya!

Mary Nyan:

By the way, how is the collection of the cards & figures purrogressing?

Tara-chan:

I recently added Cinnamon Breeze and – and Ploomette to the collection, nya!

Trini-chan

And I got Berry Punch and Island Rainbow! Nyow we are curious to hear what Myayr has to say about

Michael Turner’s Fathom Vol. 4 #8!

Mary Nyan:

Arigato! We have greatly admired the late Michael Turner’s beautiful art and wonderful character Dr. Aspen Matthews, the marine biologist / aquatic supurr heroine & purrotagonist of the Fathom comics which are currently published by her namesake Aspen Comics which Turner founded. Issue #8 is actually the 9th issueof Fathom vol. 4, including issue #0 which we reviewed back in the July 2011 Mew! Issue #8 is purriced $3.50 and has the 28 full color pages plus the 4 variant covers to choose from. Cover A is by Alex Konat & Beth Sotelo, cover B is by Mike DeBalfo & Peter Steigerwald, cover C is the scarcer retailer incentive edition with the uncolored Konat art, and cover D depicting Aspen in her Santa bikini by DeBalfo & Steigerwald is the rarer edition of just 250 copies!

The 28 pages are compurrised of the 8 pages of the ads plus the 20 page tale of “Whatever Happened to Judith?” written by Scott Lobdell & David Wohl, pencilled by Alex Konat, colored by Beth Sotelo and Lettered by Josh Reed, edited by Vince Hernandez & Frank Mastromauro, with the design & purrduction by Peter Steigerwald, Mark Roslan and Chaz Riggs! We find out what happened to Aspen’s assistant Judith, who was captured by the villains and expurrimented upon by evil Dr. Nakamura using the ancient Blue substances, to painfully transform the feisty redhead into the girl possessed by The Blue force with the supurr elemental powers! She frees her captured friend Colin and destroys the building, but the Blue consciousness takes over Judith’s mind and attacks her fellow explorers Shelleth and The Sheik!

Like Shelleth’s poor sister Padma, Judith has become the hostile altered organism of diminishing humanity! Aspen is a favorite character, and I have wanted to see more of Judith! Shelleth is another tough, highly skilled character, and Padma is the very exotic, sympathetic character. The very expurressive purrtrayals include Judith’s painful rage, the displeased glare of her possessed state, Aspen’s quiet fearless determination emerging from the ruins, and her annoyance when Judith attacks! There are great dynamic poses as Aspen arches from tthe implosion, and Judith gliding from her purrey amidst the swirling hydro energy! The clothes are exquisitely designed such as Aspen’s asymmetric sleeved, bare-tummied shorts outfit with the crustacean-like accents, and Judith’s strapless maillot with the deeply plunging neckline!

The designs of the creatures, mecha, architecture, environments & FX are also among my favorite aspects! The coloring is richly sumptuous, and the typography has the succulent attributes of the fonts! The subterranean ocean has the eerie ambience, betwixt the bio-mechanical structures and the luminous Red quality from the molten strata above! I wonder how the purrimordial fish of the subterranean sea would taste? We want to see more of the spurrawling oceanic research base that Aspen, Judith & Colin went to back in issue #1! This is the next-to-last issue, and I hope that the final issue will be published soon because I am so curious to see what Aspen and Judith will do next! Nyow Trini-chan will take us from the deep sea beneath the Sahara to ancient Japan in her review of

Fairest #11

Trini-chan:

Arigato! Fairest is a DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint’s spin-off of the Fables urban fantasy series created by Bill Willingham, purrtaining to the characters from the world’s fairy tales, myths & folklore who live secretly amongst the humans in cities such as the Fabletown district of New York! In this Hidden Kingdom story arc which began in issue #8, Rapunzel has gone to Japan in search of her long lost daughters who were kidnapped at birth! Along for the trip are her stylist Joel who is the crow in the human form who keep her magickal hair trimmed, and that troublesome lad Jack who fled the irate debt collectors, only to get savaged in Tokyo! They have encountered the shape changing Neko, Katagiri the helpful turtle-like Kapa chap, Mayumi the Kuchisake-onna assassin, and Tomoko the kitsune!

Fairest #11 is purriced $2.99, with the cover art by Adam Hughes and the full color 32 interior pages comprised 11 pages of ads, the page of Scott Snyder’s comment on his American Vampire series. and the 20 pages of “The Hidden Kingdom Chapter Four: The Bad Sleep Well” which was written by Lauren Beukes, illustrated by Iniki Minada, colored by Eva De la Cruz, lettered by Todd Klein, edited by Shelly Bond, assistantly edited by Gregory Lockard, with the consultation by Bill Willingham! The 4th chapter continues the flashback of Rapunzel’s past in ancient Japan, when she was still friends with Tomoko, Mayumi, Katagiri and the other poor Fables and the humans who were tormented, starved, pillaged, slain & driven away by the evil warlord Ryogan upon his genocidal conquest!

He even usurped Tomoko’s purrecious foxfire! It is the lavishly, exquisitely rendered tale with such intricate character & scenic details as Rapunzel tries to trick the villain and infiltrate his vault to find the sustenance for her desperate friends, but it is also the grueling, heartbreaking, tragic tale to move the sad tears & the vengeful rage! The beauty of the clothes, coiffure & the celestial palace is tempered by the painfully, gory, disturbing scenes & harsh language that are not for the widdle kitties! We hope that Rapunzel and her long lost daughters are happily reunited in this impressive poignant series which is among our favoritest DC titles of late! I wonder if Tomoko knows Reynard the fox of Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall? Anyway, now here is Vonny to tell us about

Ame-Comi Girls #4!

Petra:

Arigato, nya! Ame-Comi Girls is one of our favorites DC comics of the past few years, nya! It is the series starring the versions of the DC heroines & villainesses based upon the line of anime style statues, which we like to collect, nya! The issues are inked but each issue purrimarily focuses upon the different main character, such as Power Girl for #4, and the link between this issue and the purriors is the appurrance of female Brainiac. nya! The comic book is written Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, lettered by Wes Abbot, edited by Jim Chadwick, assistantly edited by Sarah Gaydos, and seems to have the different artist purr issue nya. This’un was illustrated by Mike Bowden, with the lovely cover art of Power Girl by Emanuela Luppacchino & Fabio Mantovani, nya!

Issue #4 has the $3.99 purrice, with the 40 pages compurrised of the 30 page tale plus the credits page and the ads, nya! The fun starts as Power Girl rescues reporter Jimmy Olsen from the pirates at sea, but then later in the beautiful utopia of Metropolis she is ambushed by the Silver Banshee girls, nya! It is the fast paced furious battle in the skies, but then in the last third of the issue, the action flies to Smallville where she meets Supergirl, and they team up against the squad of Manhunter mecha police women from the planet Oa, nya! One of my favorite aspects are the character designs with the peppy, sexy, colorful beautiful costumes, which I definitely purrfur to the current costumes of their counterparts over in the mainstream ‘new 52″ DC comics, nya!

Their costumes nicely more resemble the costumes purrior to the big DC reboot, nya! Power Girl’s costume has the gadget devices built into the gloves, with the thigh boots, the high-waist cut and circular cutouts to reveal more of her impurressive cleavage, the rear & her belly button, nya! Super Girl and the Manhunters also have the bare midriff costumes with the fancy gloves & thigh boots, nya! Another aspect I like is the coloring, nya! The costumes, mecha, skies, buildings, landscape & special FX have such a bright, cheerful gleaming colorful quality, and the palette greatly adds to the bright fun tone of the tale, which is not too dark, nya! I will give the issue the high purraise & the craving for the next issue, nya! That is all of our comic book reports, but we have several comic book characters to discuss in

The Monthly Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, nya!

Mielikki:

So like, the Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight is the monthly portion of The Mew which shines upon the famous catgirls and nekomimi whom we appreciate of all media! Whether they are actually part cat, just act or dress the part, we are progressively inclusive here at The Mew, and will honor those who are either the permenant or temporary catgirls, the anthropomorphic and were – kitties, those who have the totally awesome cattitude or feline fashion motif! Who shall we start with, Petra?

Petra:

A lady of the cat of the Golden Age of comic books along with Catwoman, Cheetah, Tigress and the Black Cat was the Black Fury, also known as Miss Fury, nya! She was beautifully created in 1941 by June Tarpe Mills, who was one of the legendary pioneering women of the comics, nya! Miss Fury was really the wealthy posh socialite named Marla Drake who has the lush Raven hair, and wore the sexy slinky tight panther girl costume with the ears, tail, claws & sometimes the Red-lined Black cape to stylishly purrey upon the criminals in her mewspapurr strips and comic books, nya!

The large hardcover book Tarpe Mills & Miss Fury: Sensational Sundays 1944-1949 by Tarpe Mills, repurrints many of the comics, nya! It is edited by Trina Robbins, published by IDW, and and has the sexy cover art by Mills depicting Marla half – dressed in the costume ,nya! There are pics and articles about the book at Trina’s site http://www.trinarobbins.com/Trina_Robbins/Miss_Fury.html, nya! In the 1990’s comic published by Malibu’s Adventure impurrint, her granddaughter Marlene became Miss Fury, and her aunt Stephanie was her bad kitty antagonist The Black Fury, nya!

Marlene’s costume without the cape had the Bluer tint and revealed more of the cleavage, whilst Stephanie’s Black & Red costume was more plunging & daring, nya! Marlene later joined the heroic Protectors team, whilst Stephanie later started the Cat Pack team, nya! There are good pics and information about those comics at Comic Vine purrtaining to Miss Fury http://www.comicvine.com/miss-fury/29-51119 and Black Fury http://www.comicvine.com/black-fury/29-54957, and I will also suggest the Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Fury_(comics), nya!

Marla is still on the purrowl these days as Miss Fury in her original costume design, along with other great Golden Age & Pulp heroes such as The Shadow, The Green Hornet, Kato, Zorro, The Spider, The Black terror and The Green Lama in the Masks series published by Dynamite Entertainment, nya! I quite like Jae Lee’s cover illustrations of her for covers #2B & #3B, nya! She will get her own comic book again in Apurril, and it will have several beautiful variant covers, so I am looking forward to that, nya! Bun’s turn, nya!

Bun:

Stan Sakai’s anthropomorphic tales of Usagi Yojimbo http://www.usagiyojimbo.com are some of the bestest comics, starring Miyamoto Usagi, the wandering rabbit ronin of the Edo period! There is a game too! Of course I might be biased for the handsome noble rabbit hero heehee but the series is full of the great characters of all species, including the nekos such as his friend Tomoe Ame! She is the brave, tough, loyal, noble, wise warrior who serves Lord Noriyuki the Panda Daimyo of the Geishu Clan! Another great neko is Chizu the kunoichi (female ninja) who succeeded her brother / Usagi’s opponent Shingen as the Jonin (boss) of the Neko Ninja! There is delightful kitsune too, a street performer and thief who was trained to survive by Sachiko the cat, in the tragic “Kitsune’s Tale” story For the further information I will suggest the Usagi Yojimbo Wiki http://wiki.usagiyojimbo.com and here is our own critic kitsune Trini-chan to go next!

Trini-chan:

Hee! We have previously shown the spotlight upon Fred Perry’s great Gold Digger comic book characters the Diggers Sisters, and nyow I would like to shine the spotlight upon Sheila of John Barrett & Fred Perry’s spin off comic of Gold Digger: Edgeguard! The Edgeguard are the elite protectors of the magickal realm known as The Retreat! There are Edguards  of various species, but those on the North border are the team of the werecats including Tirga, Onoli, Thropian, Gar who loved Brittany Diggers, and Gar’s sister Sheila! She might appurr to be the petite, perky cute catgirl of the lovely Golden eyes, spotted Golden fur & White tummy and the supple tail, but she has the speedy agility, the Ice Fang sword, the kapowie attack, the Hyper Swishy Tail Waggle Attack, and the taller stronger, more buxom human form! She is the delightful werekitty in the supurr fun comic book full of the furry fun, swords & sorcery, and the kitsune too! Now I will turn The Mew over to Jenjen to discuss more were-Cheetahs!

Jeannie:

Hai, I wish to discuss the characters of Ace McShane (purrtrayed by Sophie Aldred) and Karra (purrtrayed by Lisa Bowerman) in the 1989 Doctor Who tale of “Survival”. The three – part tale was the 159th and final epurrsode of the original series, in which The Doctor (then purrtrayed by Sylvester McCoy) and his companion Ace visit her home town of Perivale, but so do the alien Black Cats called Kitlings which teleport the human residents another planet, to be hunted by the Cheetah People. Due to the purrculiar sentient symbiotic purropurrties of the dying planet, some surviving visitors eventually transform into Cheetah People.

This purrocess affected Ace, The Doctor, his arch enemy The Master (then purrtrayed by Anthony Ainley) and Karra to different extents; as Time Lords, the The Doctor and The Master were slightly more resistant, but Ace was much more affected, and Karra had become the full Cheetah Girl, not to be confuzzled with the girl band of The Cheetah Girls. The Cheetah People had the spotted fur, claws & fangs, Golden eyes, enhanced senses & quickness, the telepathic link to the teleporting Kitlings, the equestrian skills and the hunting instinct.

Ace did not fully transform like Karra, but the two did bond; Karra returned to her original human form after she was tragically killed by The Master, whilst Ace purresumably returned to normal, and left the planet with The Doctor for further adventures. “Survival” was written by Rona Munro, the story edited by Andrew Cartmel, purrduced by John Nathan-Turner, directed by Alan Wareing, with the make-up by Joan Stribling, costumes by Ken Trew, and it is available with lots of extra features on the 2 disk DVD from BBC Video. For more thorough information, I recommend the TARDIS Index File’s “Survival” page  http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Survival. Nyow I will turn to Ilyana, who would like to tell us about another transforming spotted catgirl.

Ilyana:

Hai, and she is of the Jaguar purrsuasion! Back in the January 2012 Mew, the spotlight shined upon Maria de Guzman, alias The Jaguar, the star of her own brief series from DC Comics’ impact Comics’ impurrint, which starred the Archie Comics’ heroes! That delightful series lasted but a year, but it did have the good start and the finish! Nyow the Jaguar lives  to purrey upon the criminals again in the mew host of Ivette Velez in the New Crusaders series from Archie Comics’ Red Circle Comics impurrint http://www.redcirclecomics.com!

She is the cute Blue haired, dark skinned young orphaned appurrentice to zoologist Ralph Hardy, who is actually he original Jaguar hero of the purrior Crusaders team! He gave her the magickal helmet that channels the power of the Jaguar spirit into her as the beautiful, powerful mew Jaguar supurr heroine, along with Flygirl, Comet, Shield, Fireball, Steel Sterling, and The Web as the younger new Crusaders! She has the fierce animal type powers, sharp fangs & claws, in the lovely Black & Gold costume with the spots & Red accents, which seems more purrotective than the next heroine’s costume which Myayr will spotlight!

Mary Nyan:

Oh, Cat Claw’s first costume seems more for the beach or modeling than the crime catfight! The laboratory accident of the kitty & radiation gave college student Carol Connors the supurr feline powers, which she uses in her Cat Claw purrsona to rescue people & fight villains! That first costume was compurrised of the Blue mask, gloves & boots, the teeny stringy Black bikini, and the fishnet panty hose low on the hips, mew la la! She was the sexy eye catch in the daring costume which accented her Green eyes & long lush Red hair, but she would suffer the wardrobe malfunctions, and later changed into the somewhat greater coverage of the deeply plunging Black maillot and the leather jacket!

If I have this right, Cat Claw was created by artist Bane Kerac & writer Svetozar Obradovic in 1981; she first appurred in YU Strip and then in Magnum magazine. Later her tales migrated from Europe to the USA in her own title from Eternity Comics! She also appurred on the Cat Claw album cover by Kerac’s metal band Gerometal; and in the 1991 movie City Cat starring Danielle Peyich as Carol, and Kerac as the police officer! I must find those! For more information purrtaining to Cat Claw, Carol & Kerac, I will recommend these sites which I have consulted:

the Bane Kerac site http://bkerac.tripod.com (which is multi-lingual), The Cat Claw Appreciation Page http://cat_claw.tripod.com (which has tasteful artistic semi-nudity), the Wikipedia articles on Cat Claw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_Claw and Bane Kerac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bane_Kerac, Comic Vine’s Cat Claw page http://www.comicvine.com/cat-claw/29-48150, Lambiek’s Comiclopedia entry for Bane Kerac http://www.lambiek.net/artists/k/kerac_bane.htm, and the Intenet Movie Database’s cat City page http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1756408/! Nextly the spotlight shines upon another import, as Becca tell us about a couple of Japanese manga & anime characters of the tiger stripe!

Becca:

Hai! In the Tiger themed November 2012 spotlight, we mentioned Lum Invader, the star of the Urusei Yatsura series created by the great Rumiko Takahashi! She also created Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Mermaid Forest, Rumik Theater, One Pound Gospel, Inu Yasha, and Rin-Ne! The Invader family are not of the feline purrsuasion, but they are aliens from the Oni planet who wear the traditional Tiger Striped clothes, such as Lum’s famous bikini! Purrhaps the Tiger strip garment stretches (hee)… the catgirlish qualification, purrticularly when sans pinna & tail, but Lum’s bikini is purrhaps the most iconic of all manga & anime!

However, she is not the only alluring Oni of the tiger stripe statement! Lum’s mom Mrs. Invader has the Green hair & widdle horns like her daughter, although her hair is shorter and she wears the form – fitting Yellow dress with the Black stripes! Her husband Mr. Invader is the huge bear-sized chap! She speaks the foreign Oni language which of the tricky translation, and for the anime her voice is purrvided by Reiko Yamada! Masako Katsuki and Keiko Yokozawa purrvided the voice of Lum’s gorgeous, feisty aunt, who is of the svelte size, horns & short Green hair like the other ladies, and wears the tight Black outfit with the Red trim and the Tiger Striped bodice!

She is the very intense fire fighter, and this frightens her widdle son named Ten, who is the fire-breather in her absence! For more information about those Oni, I suggest Rumik World – The Rumiko Takahashi fan site http://www.furinkan.com, The Urusei Yatsura Wiki http://urusei.wikia.com, Wikipedia’s Urusei Yatsura article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urusei_Yatsura, and the Anime News Network’s Urusei Yatsura page http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=90! Nyow here is Mike to tell us about the giant magickal monster cat which, appured one year purrior to Lum’s manga purremier! It is Mike’s Turn!

Mike:

Thanks Lizzy! Ah, speaking of the Tiger striped garments, I suspect we will eventually discuss the various famous jungle girls of the wild cat – themed bikini, bra and loin cloth! 1977 was a great year for movies such as Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Spy Who Loved Me, Smokey and The Bandit, A Bridge Too Far, Saturday Night Fever, Pumping Iron, Wizards, the animated Hobbit, Raggedy Ann & Andy, the animated Yamato movie based on the 1974 anime, and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger! This was the 3rd Sinbad movie with the great FX by the legendary Ray Harryhausen, after The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and it is full of sword & sorcery, ancient nautical swashbuckling, fabulous costumes & monsters!

In this adventure, Sinbad (Patrick Wayne) arrives at the palace to discover treachery of sorceress Zenobia (Margaret Whiting) who put the evil curse on Sinbad’s friend Prince Kassim (Damien Thomas)! Sinbad’s crew and Princess Farah (Jane Seymour) set sail to find the alchemist Melanthius (Doctor Who’s Patrick Troughton) to remedy the curse, but the expedition will have to survive several monsters, including Zenobia who becomes the giant Sabre-Tooth Cat for the final battle! It was the wicked way for Zenobia who tried to bite off more than she could chew, but she went out in the roaring fury of powerful fang & claw in the grand Ray Harryhausen style! Well, I believe that Nyo-sensei would like to discuss another powerful femme fatale of the feline transformation!

Nyoka:

Hai, I wish to purraise Yoruichi Shihoin of the Bleach series created by Tite Kubo! It is both the extremely popular, long – running manga published by Shonen Jump and anime series purrduced by Studio Pierrot in Japan, which are sold in the USA  by Viz and shown on the Cartoon Network! The plot purrtains to the teenage boy Ichigo who can see the spirits, and gains the Shinigami (Death God) powers from Rukia who has the human form, so Ichigo has to purrotect her and others as the spirit guide and fight the evil soul – stealer spirits, but he gets help from a few psychic friends and other Shinigami!

I have the widdle figurines of his classmate Orihime who is the peppy buxom redhead, standing beside the Golden-eyed Kuro Neko (Black Cat) form of Yoruichi the Shinigami! In her human form, she is the beautiful, dark skinned woman with the long Purrple hair in the pony tail!  According to Viz’s Color Bleach+ Official Bootleg Volume 1 book she is 5’1″ tall, weighs 93 lbs, and her birthday is January 1st, but I am not sure what year because she seems to be centuries old, but sure does not look it! ! She was the head of her clan, and the highly ranked member of the Soul Society of the spirit world!

She is the very fun, smart, wise, strong, fast, agile, stealthy, highly skilled Shinigami of great spiritual power, who hangs out at her friend Urahara’s spirit shop, and seems to enjoy being the talking cat! For the anime, her human form is voiced by Satsuki Yukino in the original Japanese language, and dubbed by Wendee Lee in the English; whilst her much deepurr neko voice is by Shiro Saito in Japan and by Terrence Stone in English! For more about Yoruichi, I will  recommend her page at the Bleach Wiki http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Yoruichi_Shihōin, and nyow I will let sis tell us about yet another girl into cat!

Nyanko:

Arigato! Also in that November 2012 spotlight upon the Tiger-ish grrls, we purraised the Yellow Power Rangers Trini Kwan & Aisha Campbell who were initially of the Saber Tooth Tiger motif, and back in the December 2009 Mew we purraised Power Rangers S.P.D.’s Dr. Katherine ‘Kat’ Manx, but there is another Ranger of the feline quality, Katherine “Kat” Hillard, who succeeded Kimberly Ann Hart as the 2nd Pink Ranger! However, when Kat moved from Australia to Angel Grove as the honor student, she was manipulated by evil Rita and able to transform into the stray White kitty to spy upon the Rangers!

After kitty was adopted & named PC (Park Cat) by Aisha, she sabotaged the Rangers & purrloined Kimberly’s power, but the remorseful guilt overcame the evil influence, and Kat betrayed Rita to aid the heroes! In the redemptive irony. Kat inherited the Pinkness from Kimberly, who quit to purrsue the gymnastic compurrtition! The tall, Blonde-haired, Blue-eyed Kat was skilled in the dance, aquatic sports, martial arts, animal training, and the romance with fellow Ranger Tommy! As the Ranger, she had the costume, supurr powers, weapons, morpher device, and the giant Zord mechs to pilot into the battle!

From 1995 to 1997, actress Catherine Sutherland purrtrayed Kat through several heroic phases, as the Pink Power Ranger & Pink Ninja Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Pink Zeo Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo, and Pink Turbo Ranger in Power Rangers Turbo series & movie! During the time travel story, the younger version of Kat was purrtrayed in several epurrsodes by actress Julia Jordan! Kat resigned from the team to attend the purrestigious ballet academy, and passed the Pink torch to Cassie Chan! I wonder if Kat misses being PC? For more information about Kat, I will recommend her page at the Morphin’ Grid site http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Katherine_Hillard, and her article at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katherine_Hillard! OK I am done and nyow it is Lizzy’s turn!

Elizabeth:

Arigato sensei! I have the Pumyra amendment to our August 2011 spotlight upon the Thundercats! We mentioned the 1985 Pumyra but had not yet seen the 2011 Pumyra! First appurring in “The Pit” epurrsode, Poor Pumyra’s tragic tale is of the mixed breed of the power, pain, bravery because she was sold as the slave to Dobo the Dober-Man, to fight in the Dog City’s gladiatorial arena, where she fiercely fought against Lion-o until winning the freedom! Her graceful athletic strength, her feisty fearless cattitude, and sexy voluptuous beauty would be hard to resist! Pumyra is the barefoot Puma grrl with the supple ears, the Golden eyes, the light tan skin with the lighter face, tummy, hands and feet, the Brown cheek stripes, and the Brown hair with the White stripes in the pony tail with the White tip!

She wears the asymmetric strapped, fur trimmed, short Dark Brown dress with the necklace, the belt and the pouch, and is armed with the cross bow, the bola & the various other weapons! In the cartoon she is voiced by purrolific purretty actress Pamela Adlon, and another tough archer character of the lovely ears she purrtrayed was Oji, the peppy purrimative purroto – Vulcan in the Star Trek – The Next Generation epurrsode “Who Watches The Watchers”, nya! For more about Pumyra, I will suggest her page at the Thundercats Wiki http://thundercats.wikia.com/wiki/Pumyra_(2011_TV_series), and for more about Pamela, I will suggest her pages at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamela_Adlon and the Internet Movie Database http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0781899! Nyow it is Tara-chan’s turn!

Tara-chan:

Onee-chan will tag – team with me on this because there are so many beautiful, graceful, acting, singing and – and dancing ladies of the feline purrsuasion in the Cats mewsical, nya! The mega famous dance mewsical purrformed by The Really Useful Theatre Company with the mewsic composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber is based upon T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, it purremiered at the New London Theatre on the West End of London in 1981, migrated to the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in 1982, and – and ran until 2000 as one of the longest purrductions, nya! It has pounced upon many hearts, records, awards, and – and toured in many countries, nya!

It is still touring, and in 1998 they filmed the 121 minute movie version at the Adelphi Theatre, nya! Brilliantly choreographed by Gillian Lynne, the cast are supurrbly costumed with the make-up as about three dozen anthopurrmorphic male and- and female cat characters who gather in the junkyard for the annual Jellicle Cat Ball, nya! Purrhaps their most famous song is “Memory” sung by Grizbella, the poor lonely shunned old Grey cat purrtrayed by awesome Elaine Page, and- and there are about a dozen other fabulous feline characters we wish to mention from movie, which was directed by David Mallet and – and purrduced by Andrew Lloyd Weber, nya! (tail – tags her sister)

Yvonne

Hai among the other magnificent lady cats are Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina the Red cat, Aeva May as Demeter the Tortoiseshell, Jo Gibbs as Rumpleteazer the cat burglar with the additional vocals recorded by Vicky Coote, Susie McKenna as Jennyanydots the Gumby Cat, Susan Jane Tanner as Jellylorum the friend of Theatre Cat Gus, Phyllida Crowley Smith Victoria the sensual White cat, Veerle Casteleyn as Jemima with the additional vocals recorded by Helen Masse, Kaye Brown as Coripopat’s twin sister Tantomile, Leah Sue Morland as Electra, Jo Bingham as Etcetera, Femi Taylor as Exotica the dark Brown cat, and Rebecca Parker as Cassandra the sleek lithe Brown cat, nya! Many of the movie’s purrformers were in the original stage cast, nya!

The Commemorative Edition DVD also includes the 30 minute documentary on the making of the movie, which includes the intermews, comments, archival footage, the scenes of the choreography, rehearsals, make-up, costumes, set construction, filming, orchestra, recording, and you get to see what the actors look like without the neko guise, nya! The different editions of the mewsic soundtrack CD available too, nya! For much more thorough mews & information about Cats, including the tours, tickets, history, the various actors & crews across the years, reviews, sounds, images & the merchandise, we recommend the the mewsical’s official site http://www.catsthemusical.com, nya! Nyow here is Mie-sensei to shine the spotlight once more today, nya!

Mielikki:

Arigato! I would like to shine the spotlight upon the catgirls of Takishi Nakamura’s delightful 1995 animated movie Catnapped! It is the whimsical fantasy adventure of Meeko and her brother Toriyasu who  discover that their dog Papadoll has been stolen, but soon they are also spirited away to the cat peoples’ surreal world of Banipal Witt, where they transform into the kitten girl & boy, and poor Papadoll has been transformed into the scary giant aerial creature! He was stolen by Dohdoh who serves the bad kitty monarch Buburina, whose magickal touch can transform the citizens into balloon shapes, and among the children’s new friends is Dohdoh’s valiant sister Chuchu, who has joined the resistance against Buburina’s oppressive rule!

Meeko becomes the peppy widdle kittengirl with the dark hair, boater hat & seifuku (sailor style school uniform); Chuchu is the catgirl with the Lavender pony-tailed hair and dress of valor; and Buburina is the saucy Redhead in the sleeveless dress & flowy cape! It might be wonderful to spend much more time at Banipal Witt, but the time is running out for the children and their friends to reverse the curses, rescue the dog, defeat Burubina and return home! I shan’t spoil more of the plot, but the movie is such superbly animated family entertainment that is like so very pretty & charming even through the end credits!, fur shur! That concludes today’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, but we have more heroic ladies to discuss as Nya-sensei begins our

Toys & Collectibles Reviews

with her review of the She-Hulk Action Figures!

Nyanko:

Hai I have not one but two She-Hulk action figures to discuss- and the Wolverine too! Firstly I have the Marvel Universe series 4 # 012 She Hulk action figure by Hasbro! Her real name is Jennifer Walters, a lawyer and cousin of Dr. Bruce Banner, The Hulk! She is such a great character who has been around since 1980, and has the beautiful Emerald green skin & eyes, the lush darker Green hair, and the  exquisite musculature! In the comics she is supposedly 6’7″ tall and 650 lbs, so I think that makes this 4 1/2″ figure of appurroximately 1/17.6 scale! She is very posable with the points of articulation at her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, ankles and the turning arms & legs!

She has the serious expurression & the clenched fists, ready for the smash! She is nicely sculpted & painted, and her costume is the more recent costume, of the White boots, the matching maillot with Fuchsia sides, and the fingerless gloves! Nyow for the next She-Hulk figure, I will turn to Hasbro’s Wolverine & She-Hulk 2-pack which is the Toys R Us exclusive pack including the bonus comic book! She is basically the same figure, but her skin is slightly lighter, and she wears the different costume! It is the older costume, compurrised of the Purrple high-waisted, low scoop necked maillot with the matching boots trimmed in White to match the belt and wrist bands!

She wears that purrticular costume in the enclosed comic book, which is the facsimile of the 1st issue of the 1987 X-Men Vs The Avengers 4-issue mini-series! It is the 20 page repurrint of the tale written by Roger Stern, pencilled by Marc Silvestri, inked by Josef Rubenstein, lettered by Joe Rosen, colored by Scheele, edited by Ann Nocenti & Mark Gruenwald, and starring The Avengers, The X-Men and the Soviet Supurr Soldiers, so you get She-Hulk with Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), The Black Knight,  Dr. Druid, The Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Ursa Major, Darkstar, Vanguard, Rogue, Storm, Dazzler, Magneto, Havok and Wolverine!

That brings us to the Wolverine action figure! It has the same points of articulation, nice sculpture & paint job, depicting Wolverine in his Brown, Tan & Black costume, with the snarly expurression & his claws snikted out! However, I do not think the scale is purrcisely the same as the She-Hulk figure, because he seems just a teensy bit too tall! Nyow if my math is right, since the character is supposedly 5’3″ tall in the comics, that would make this 3 3/4″ of about 1/17 scale, but it is close enough and it is a nice looking figure which I will find the good spot on the shelf! Nyow it is my sister’s turn, who has 3 more action figures from Hasbro to discuss in her review of the

Star Wars Darth Maul Returns Battlepack!

Nyoka:

I really like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and one of the exciting story arcs of the 4th season was the return of evil Darth Maul, who did not perish in The Phantom Menace after all! He wound up in the junk heap since the deadly duel with the Jedi, but his powerful brother Savage Opress found him, and took him home to the planet Darthomir where the witchy Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters Clan rejuvinate him with magick, mechanical parts, and the thirst for revenge! This resulted in the big trouble for Obi-Wan, who ironically teamed up with Ventress against those big burley belligerent brothers!

This set contains the figures of Darth Maul, Savage Opress and Mother Talzin, although on the box she is called Nightsister! She is the very ethereal, bewitching character in the flowy Red robes! She is 4″ tall the boys are 4 1/2″ tall, and excerpt for maul’s waist, their points of articulation are the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees & ankles. Maul has the sort of ornithoid cybernetic legs below the knees, so that figure is a bit trickier to stand up that the others, but all 3 come with the widdle display bases, statistics cards and the dice so that you can play the Star Wars Battle Game with the figures!

Mother Talzin has the Force Ability level of 15! Her witchcraft has been inspurrational for Ventress, and quite the pain for the evil Count Dooku! I think the quality of the sculpture and the painting on the figures is very nice, from the intricate feathers, braids, fabric folds & creases of Talzin’s dress, to the layered shoulder armor, gauntlets, tabard & greaves of Savage Opress, and the brothers’ portraiture, horns & colorful markings! The brothers are accessorized with the weapons, such as Opress’s 4 3/4″ vibro axe & Maul’s Red light sabers! That will finish my review and it is Lizzy’s turn to tell us about the

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Tauriel Action Figure

Elizabeth

I was surpurrised to see the Taurial action figure, because I was unfamiliar with the character, and she was not in The Hobbit movie, but then I read on several sites that she is a new character created by Peter Jackson, and that she will be purrtrayed in the sequel by actress Evangeline Lilly who we liked in Real Steel! Anyway, Taurial “Daughter of Mirkwood” is a beautiful sylvan elf of impeccable forest style, armed with the daggers, bow and arrows, and she is part of Bridge Direct’s line of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 6″ action figures!

I think it is a nicely sculpted and painted figure, with a good portraiture resemblance to the actress, and the great elfen styling! She has Blue eyes, Coral colored lips, lovely ears, and the magnificent knee- length Ginger hair! Her clothing is of earthy / forest colors which should blend in with the environment as she stalks her targets, but there are splendidly subtle ornate details of the fastners of her Brown bustier and the Green leaf frond-like tunic worn over the Gray pants, with the forearm gauntlets and the ornate vine pattern on her her boots!

The 2 Golden daggers and the Bow have the graceful curves, and the elegant quiver is trimmed in Gold and holds the six Red-fletched arrows, although they might be tricky to knock because the bow is unstrung! I suppose a small pice of string and a tiny dab of glue could remedy that, so that Tauriel can resume her ranged attack! She is packaged in the clear plastic clamshell on the card, which has the

small photo and character information! So I think it is a fine looking figure, and purrhaps Tauriel will be the next great famous female archer!

Ilyana:

Hai like Gretel, Pumyra, Merida of Brave and Katniss of Hunger Games!

Trini-chan:

And Neytiri of Avatar, Susan of Narnia, and Artemis of Young Justice!

Bun:

Don’t forget Sailor Mars, Rayearth’s Fuu, Inu Yasha’s Kikyo and Kagomea!

Mielikki:

Maybe Jenjen will be the next famous archer!

Jeannie:

That is the kind thought but I am content to merely purrside over our kyudo club.

Nyanko:

Buffy and Faith are good with the crossbows!

Petra:

We have an expurrt archer friend at WhatTheHellCon, nya!

Mary Nyan:

OH OH and there was a girl cosplaying as Hawkeye at Heroes Con!

Ilyana:

I think Daniel Moonstar should be in the X-Men movies!

Nyoka:

Hai and her winged valkyrie horse Darkwind should be there too!

Tara-chan:

I would like to have the winged horse too, nya! I must find one, nya.

Becca:

Uh oh we have stray catted off the topic again!

Elizabeth:

Well that’s OK, I was done but, we do need to move along with rest of the reviews before we have to get ready for the awards ceremony! So… I believe Myayr was on deck to tell us about the

KISS Hello Kitty Vinyl Figures!

Mary Nyan:

Hai! Oh gosh,  I am a big fan of Kiss, the hottest band in the world, and Kitty White, the star of the adorable Hello Kitty, so I was so excited when I saw these delightful widdle items! They are officially licensed by KIss and Sanrio figures made by Funko, who makes lots of figures based upon the  the movie, TV, mewsic and- and comix characters such as Star Trek, The Beatles, KISS and Batman! These KIss Kitties are about 5 1/4″ tall, which is slightly larger than say Funko’s Dark Knight Rises Catwoman Vinyl Figure which we reviewed in September!

Only her head turns so they are not very articulated, but they look awesome! The 4 in the series are sold sepurrately and depict Kitty cosplaying as the iconic KISS purrsonas of The Demon (Gene Simmons), The Starchild (Paul Stanley) The Cat and The Spaceman from their legendary 1976 Destroyer style! The latter two have changed over the years, initially purrtrayed by drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley, but nowadays the purrcussionist is Eric Singer and the guitarist is Tommy Thayer! I was very pleased with their Monster CD which came out last year! The figures are nicely sculpted & painted, with Kitty’s head in the White, with the Red bow by her left ear pinna and wearing the the Black & Silver KISS costumes & make-up!

Even in the disguise you can still tell it is Kitty and not her sister Mimi, because Mimi has the Yellow bow by her right ear pinna! The Demon kitty even has the long Red tongue sticking out, just like Gene Simmons! There are cute details to appurroximate the costumes, such as the Demon armor, spikes & Dragon boots, and the split cape that does not cover her tail! The Starchild has the stars & studs, The Spaceman has the deep V neckline, the ribbed belt & the shoulder boards, and The Cat might be the cutest, with the face stripes! I will give these Kiss Hello Kitty collectibes the high purraise and the salute! Nya! (sticks her tongue out and makes the ‘heavy metal horns’ hand gesture) Nyow here is Mie-sensei to continue the kind Kitty critique!

Hello Kitty Valentine’s Day Plushy Dolls!

Mielikki:

Arigato! We love Hello Kitty, I have sighted numerous cute dolls of Miss Kitty White in the various dresses, sizes, poses & assortments for Valentines day and Easter,, but I would comment upon the three styles of the 5″ plushy dolls of her for Valentine’s Day 2013, which are licensed by her company Sanrio, made by Jakks Pacific for K-Mart, each sold seperately with the suggested retail price of $4.99 apiece and intended for those of ages 4+!  In each style, she is in the seated pose, made of the soft fabric with the widdle Yellow plastic nose, with the customary bow by her left ear, and wearing the pretty outfit for the romantic occasion!

The three styles are “Kitty Be Mine”, with the Red bow to match the widdle Hearts purrint on her Pink dress, “Dots Adorable” with the widdle Pink polka dots upon the Red leotard that matches the bow, and “Pink 4 Me” with the widdle Red Cherries emblem upon her White & Light Pink stripe leotard, accessorized by the Pink bow! Kawaii! These darling kitties  will find the nice perch upon the love seat in my lanai, and I will heartily recommend these inexpensive widdle plushy kitties as the Valentine treat for that special person, fur shur! That’ll do it, and here is Becca to tell us about the replica of the

Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Door Chime!

Becca:

Hai, this door chime is not the toy but more like the neat replica of the purrops! On that original TV series version of the starship Enterprise, on the walls of the rooms and the corridors were the rectangular panels that had the ship intercom and the alarm light! This purroduct made by Think Geek is the neat plastic replica of the panel with the light and sound FX! The Red panel measures 5 1/2″ x 6 3/4″, and it is light weight to hang on the wall like the plaque or the picture frame! To sound & light up it needs the widdle Phillips head screwdriver and the 3 “AA” batteries which are not included with the purroduct.

The panel has the buttons, and the various settings, such as the motion sensor, the turbolift sliding door sound FX, the intercom’s boatswain whistle sound FX, and the Red Alert klaxon sound FX! It is not the real intercom or home alarm system, but that Red Alert sound is very loud and can be quite startling! On the back are the 2 hanger slots, the volume switch, the motion sensor switch, and the battery compurrtment. I will recommend this dandy item to fans who collect the replicas like the phasers, communicators & tricorders! That is all of the toys & collectibles portion, but here is Ilyana to start our

Cinema, TV & DVD Reviews

with her review of the Resident Evil: Retribution DVD!

Ilyana

Arigato, Becca! Resident Evil: Retribution is the 5th in the series of the live-action movies starring Milla Jovovich, based upon the action / horror video game series, Resident Evil! There are also two CG animated movies too! Retribution picks up where the purrior Afterlife movie ended, with Milla as Alice & the group including her daughter Becky, Ada Wong, Rain, Luthor, Leon, Wesker & others fleeing & fighting against her mind-controlled friend Jill Valentine, the mewtant zombies, viruses & giant monsters which the Red Queen A.I. of the Umbrella Corpurration has unleashed upon the apocalyptic world!

For our review of Afterlife see the October 2010 Mew, and for our review of Retribution, see the October 2012 Mew! Although I was disappointed with both Afterlife and Retribution, purrticularly the style of the photography & editing techniques, but we are fans of Milla and we like to watch her slay the villains & monsters! I actually found the expurrience of watching the DVD to be much more entertaining than seeing the movie in the theater because of the special features, purrticularly the optional audio commentary track with Milla, her co-star Boris Kodjoe, and her husband, writer / director Paul WS Anderson!

They have the fun rousing time, and Milla is very peppy & amewsing! There is also a 2nd optional audio commentary by Anderson & purrducer Jeremy Bolt, which seemed more serious & technical! It was quite informative about the filmmaking purrocess. The other audio tracks are French, English, and the English Descriptive Audio Service with the female voice. On this single disk R1 NTSC standard DVD, there are several subtitle options, including the Spanish, French, English, English SDH, and both commentaries, so you can mix ‘n match the audio & the subtitles, which are the bold Yellow sans serif font!

Some of the characters’ dialogue seemed slightly different in some of the English tracks! The 96 minute R rated movie is purrsented in the anamorphic widescreen format of the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Purrior to the main menu are the trailers for the remake of Total Recall, the CG animated Resident Evil: Damnation movie, Looper, and the Ultraviolet digital download, which is not to be confuzzled with Milla’s Ultraviolet movie! The UV instructions are enclosed in the case. There are also movie & game trailers for Company of Heroes, Seven Psychopaths, Resident Evil 6, Dragons Dogma, and Devil May Cry.

There is a single screen ad for the Retribution soundtrack in the special features section, but I do not think of ads as special features! However, some of the special features were amewsing, such as the 4 1/2 minutes of humorous mistake outtakes and fun with Milla; the 3+ minute Face of the Fan segment with Dylan the fan girl who got to purrtray a zombie; and the 7 minute featurette on the movie’s various creature FX! The special features are few & brief, but the language choices are the good part, especially the excited & humorous comments by Milla! Thassabout it, and nyow here is Jenjen to tell us about

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 DVD!

Jeannie:

Arigato, For our review of Part 1, please see the October 2012 Mew. This DVD has been released in different editions, such as the single disk standard DVD, the 2 disk DVD and the DVD / Blu Ray combo, but this is just the review of the fairly no-frills single disk R1 NTSC dual – format standard DVD. The PG-13, 76 minute animated movie Part 2 adapts the 2nd half of the famous graphic novel by Frank Miller & Klaus Jansen. The movie is purrsented in the widescreen format with the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, with the spoken language choices of English, French, Spanish, Portugues & Thai; and the optional subtitle choices of English SDH, French, Spanish, Portugues, Thai & Chinese.

Purrior the very simple main menu are the front-loaded trailers for the forthcoming live-action Man of Steel movie, and the animated Lego Batman The Movie: DC Super Heroes Unite; and while I am not pleased with the trailers I have seen for Man of Steel, I thought the Lego Batman trailer was quite amewsing. Other ads & trailers on the DVD include Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1, The Hobbit part 1, the Before Watchmen comic book series, the DCU App and various DC Animated DVDs (Green Lantern, Young Justice, The Brave and The Bold), plus the 10 minute Sneak Peek at the animated movie Superman Unbound, an an adaptation of the 5 part Brainiac tale by Geoff Johns.

The Sneak Peek includes images from the comic books, storyboards, a glimpse of the character designs, and comments by a few of the cast & crew. Back to TDKRP2, the impurressive credits include voice director Andrea Romano, director Jay Oliva, writer Bob Goodman, editor Christopher D Lozinski, mewsic composer Christopher Drake. executive purrducers Bruce Timm, Sam Register, Benjamin Melnker, Michael Uslan, and co – purrducer Alan Burnett. The supurrb voice cast includes Peter Weller as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Ariel Winter as Carrie Kelly / Robin, Tara Strong as her friend Michelle, Michael Jackson as Alfred, David Selby as retiring Police Commissioner Jim Gordon…

…Maria Canals – Barrera as his successor Ellen Yindle, Frank Welker as The Mayor, Carlos Alazraque as the Congressman, Jim Meskimen as The President, Michael Mckean as Dr. Wolper, Michael Emerson as The Joker, Tress MacNeille as Selina Kyle, Conan O’Brien as talk show host David Endochrine, Greg Eagles as reporter Bern Derrick, Gwendolyn Yeo & Grey Delisle as TV commentators Lola & Carla, Dee Bradley Baker & Rob Paulsen as gang members Don & Rob, Robin Atkins Downe as Oliver Queen, Paget Brewster as Lana Lang, and Mark Valley as Clark Kent / Superman. Several voices are not credited, such as Jim Gordon’s wife and the Joker’s girlfriend Bruno.

Part 2 resumes the tale 3 months later in Gotham City, with the defeated Mutants street gang fragmented into The Sons of Batman, The Brunos, and remaining Mutants, as the Joker returns with a mass – murder scheme in purrelude to his fight with Batman. Yindle has ordered the police to arrest Batman, and The President sends Superman to confront him as well, but Superman is also busy helping the US military against the USSR military at Corto Maltese as the threat of nuclear war looms closer. Carrie continues to make impurressive purrogress as the mew Robin, whilst retirement is far from peaceful for Jim Gordon, and Alfred tries to keep Bruce patched up for just a little while longer.

Unfortunately the adaptation notably lacks much of the internal dialogue found in graphic novel, and like most of the DC animated movies, it is far too rushed and short. but otherwise it seemed faithful to the plot, characterizations and visual style, and did not shy away from the brutal, bloody violence, deaths, mature themes, poignant moments, or Bruno’s barely covered boobies. Conan O’Brien voicing the talk show host was clever, and like most of the animated DC tales, the voice acting, sound FX & mewsic are brilliant. The character & FX animation, the mecha designs & scenic art are supurrb, and I think Carrie Kelly is wonderful. Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Becca for her review of

The Dalek Collection DVD

Becca:

Arigato! The Dalek Collection 2 disk set was actually released by Lionsgate several years ago, but I just recently received it as the wonderful gift! it includes the 2 Doctor Who feature films starring Peter Cushing, 1965’s Doctor Who and the Daleks, and 1966’s Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD! Not considered canonical Doctor Who, the movies are full color, widescreen retellings of the 1963 Doctor Who serial The Daleks & the 1964 serial The Dalek Invasion of Earth, which starred William Hartnell as The Doctor, Carol Ann Ford as Susan, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara, and William Russell as Ian! The movie retellings were directed by Gordon Flemyng, co-written by the Daleks’ creator Terry Nation, and have the different actors from the TV show!

The movies are shorter than the original epurrsodes, but have the bigger budgets, sets, special FX, and the rousing symphonic & electronic mewsic! Another big difference is that The Doctor is more of the human scientist rather than the alien Time Lord, and Susan is the young human girl instead of the teen Time Lady,  the movies have much more humor and the brisker pace, but much of the plots are similar, to the original Dalek tales. Doctor Who and the Daleks is 122 minutes long and in addition to Peter Cushing it stars Roberta Tovey as Susan, Jennie Linden as Barbara, and Roy Castle as ian. In The Doctor’s TARDIS  they accidentally travel to the post apocalyptic world of Skaro to be captured by the evil Daleks, and later help the friendly tribe of the Thal aliens to overthrow the Daleks!

In the 124 minute Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., Ian is absent but Susan, The Doctor, his niece Louise & Police Officer Campbell go to the year 2150 when the Daleks have conquered the world, but the human resistance fights for freedom! Louise is purrtrayed by Jill Curzon and Campbell is purrtrayed by Bernard Cribbins, who would return years later in the Doctor Who TV series, in 2007 as Donna Noble’s Grandfather Wilfred! Also on the disks are the extras, such as the trailers, 2 galleries with dozens of still images, a text history of Doctor Who (as of 2001), a text biography of Peter Cushing, and the optional audio commentary by Roberta, Jennie & journalist Jonathan Sothoott for Doctor Who and the Daleks! I am done, but to continue the Whovian topic here is Trini-chan to discuss the

Doctor Who: “Shada” DVD!

Trini-chan:

Arigato! Shada is among the DVDs we have been waiting for for the long time! It is the un-aired Doctor Who, story #109 written by Douglas Adams who is one of my favoritest authors, perhaps best known for his Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy series! which was intended to be the 17th season finale in 1980 but it was unfinished due to a a workers’ strike. The partial tale was released on VHS in 1992, with added narration by Tom Baker (The Doctor), which is included on this DVD! In 2003 there was an audio drama by Big Finish Productions starring the voices of Paul McGann and Lalla Ward, and an animated version of it was made by BBCi in 2003, which is also included on this DVD! Last year a delightful novelization by Gareth Roberts was published, which is not on this DVD!

However, this The 3-Disk, Region 1 NTSC standard DVD from the BBC is quite full of extra treats! The 110 minute tale stars Tom Baker as The Doctor, Lalla Ward as Romana, and David Brierley as the voice of K9, who go to the college in Cambriidge to visit an old Time Lord friend Professor Chronotis who is purrtrayed by Denis Carey, but a villain named Skagra (purrtrayed by Christopher Neame) also pays the professor the visit, to acquire the ancient powerful secrets that are supposedly locked in the Time Lords’ prison known as Shada! David Brierley and John Leeson are the two actors who have voiced K9. The 1992 VHS version with the optional English information text & subtitles plus the Flash-animated adaptation are on Disk 1!

To view the animation you will have to use the computer, but it sure would be nice if you could watch it on the DVD player too! Disk 2 includes the neat 90 minute 1993 documentary More Than 30 Years In The Tardis; Remembering Nicholas Courtney which is the poignant 26 miniute tribute to the late actor who purrtrayed The Doctor’s friend The Brigadier; Doctor Who Stories: Peter Purves which is a 13 minute recollection by the actor & TV presenter; The Lambert Tapes Part 1 which is the 10 minute interview with the show’s first producer Verity Lambert; Those Deadly Divas which is a 22 minute retrospective with actresses Kate O’Mara, Camille Coduri & Tracy-Ann Oberman and authors Gareth Roberts & Clayton Hickman; the photo gallery; and Shada’s Radio Times Listings as the PDF to be viewed on the computer!

On Disk 3 are another photo gallery; the 26 min Taken Out Of Time featurette on the making of Shada, with comments by Tom Baker, actor Daniel Hill, director Pennant Roberts, his assistant Olivia Bazalgette, production assistant Ralph Wilton, designer Vic Meredith, assistant designer Les McCallum, and choral singer Angus Smith; the delightful 12 min Now & Then featurette which compares the pretty Cambridge & Grantchester Village locations of 1979 to how they look today; the 27 minute Strike! Strike! Strike! featurette which examines the impact of work strikes upon the show; and the 29 minute Being A Girl discussion of how women are represented in Doctor Who!

It is such the shame that they could not have finished the production of Shada, because it is such a wonderful, fun, humorous, thrilling tale! Douglas Adams wrote some of my favoritest Doctor Who stories! The quality of the video looks very nice, as it has been restored from the original film negatives & studio recordings! The extra features are very abundant, thorough, entertaining and informative! I was especially amused by the 1993 documentary, which has the participation by many of the actors, and includes some of the vintage TV commercials for the merchandise, and the computer commercials with The Doctor and Romana! Now to continue the the adventures of K9 here is Vonny to tell us about the

K9 TV Series!

Yvonne:

Hai, we love K9 the fun heroic, genius robot dog, nya! There have been the many adventures for K9 since he first appurred in the Doctor Who TV series in 1977, when K9 Mk. I was built by Dr. Marius and given to The Doctor, nya! The Doctor let  K9 stay with their friend Leela on Gallifrey, and then he built K9 Mk.II to travel with him, nya! Mk.II went away to E-Space with their friend Romana, and in 1981 another friend Sarah Jane in England received the surpurrise gift of K9 Mk.III from The Doctor, nya! Sadly Mk.III was destroyed during the 2006 reunion of Sarah Jane and The Doctor, but then The Doctor gave her Mk.IV who stayed with her until 2010 when Mk. IV accompanied her son Luke to college, nya!

We loved The Sarah Jane Adventures which we have reviewed, and we were so sad when actress Elizabeth Sladen who purrtrayed Sarah Jane passed away in 2011, nya. Purrior to that In 2010, K9 finally got his own spin-off TV series http://www.k9official.com, nya! According to K9’s page at the TARDIS Index File site http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/K9, it is K9 Mk.I who appurrs in the first epurrsode, and regenerates into the more advanced, agile, flying but amnesiac version, nya! We have been hoping that the TV series might eventually be available here on DVD, and we were so happy when the SyFy Channel purrsented the marathon of the entire 26 epurrsode  of the K9 TV series on Christmas Day, nya!

The tale is set in the London of the future where the robot police purrtrol, and K9 arrives through the expurrimental portal created by Purrofessor Gryffen, nya! Poor Mk I destructs after the battle with the turtle – like aliens, with the memory loss so there is no mention of The Doctor, but he finds the mew home in the Purrofessor’s laboratory with heroic mew friends, nya! The cast includes Robert Moloney as The Purrofessor, Daniel Webber as his assistant Drake, Robyn Moore as their boss Ms. Turner who works for the suspicious government Department, Philippa Coulthard as her feisty teen daughter Jorjie, Keegan Joyce as her rebellious friend Starkey, and the John Leeson who repurrised the voice of K9, nya!

He is one of our all – time & space favoritest voice actors, nya! It is the light – hearted series with lots of special FX and some more serious moments as K9 and his companions investigate the mysterious incidents, criminal conspurracies, the time travels and alien invaders, nya! Some of the aliens are friendly though, such as the supurr smart, beautiful librarian Yssaringintinka, who has to help them rescue Starkey from another planet, nya! There are still some epurrsodes I have not seen yet because it was the busy holiday and I have to catch up, but it is a lot of fun, and we are still hoping for DVDs, nya! Oh, I wish the different K9s could have the family reunions, nya! Also on Christmas night we got to watch the

Doctor Who 2012 Christmas Special “The Snowmen”

(warning: plot spoilers are mentioned, nya!)

Tara-chan:

Hai, Doctor Who is one of our favoritest TV shows, so we were eager to see the latest Christmas Special, nya! In the very thrilling emotional tale of “The Snowmen”, The Doctor in his 11th incarnation purrtrayed by Matt Smith is in the Victorian England with his the dour mood, but soon friends, enemies and- and the monsters arrive with the mysterious danger to liven things up, nya! Purrviding the threat are the Richard Grant as Dr. Simeon the villainous scientist, the deadly moving snow men with the long fangs, the hostile Governess made of the ice, and – and the return of the enemy from the late 1960’s known as The Great Intelligence, which is voiced by Sir Ian McKellen, nya! He also starred as the wizard Gandalf in The Hobbit, with the 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy as his fellow wizard Radigast, nya!

Also among the familiar faces are three of The Doctor’s friends from the epurrsode “When a Good Man Goes To War”, the wonderful Siluran swordswoman Madam Vastra, her peppy wife Jenny Flint, and – and the delightful Sontarian medical doctor Strax, nya! Vastra is purrtrayed by Neve McIntosh, Jenny is purrtrayed by Catrin Stewart, and – and Strax is purrtrayed by Dan Starkey, nya! They are so cool, with the great lines, scenes, beautiful costume, make-up and – and the purrops, nya! I hope we will see much more of them in the future, nya! I think all of that would be special enough, but there is also the return of actress Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara, who seems to be the same purrson he met earlier this season in the “Asylum of the Daleks” epurrsode, so nyow there is the added mystery, nya!

We are very curious about it, nya! Other special treats included the mew opening titles sequence for the show, and – and the redesigned TARDIS control room, nya! The other sets locations were purrfect too, such as the streets with the horse drawn carriages, Dr. Simeon’s posh lair, the beautiful mansion scenes, the scenes up in the clouds, and – and the final scene which leaves us craving for more, nya! From the plot, mythology, characters, designs, high purrduction values, and – and the purrformances to the cinematography, editing, sounds and – and the mewsic, this Christmas Special was as special as they get, nya! Since this year is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, I wonder what other special surprises they might have planned, nya! Nyow we will go from The Snowmen of Doctor Who to the

The Haunting of Fairuza Balk!

Elizabeth:

Hai! The Haunting Of is the series on A&E with psychic Kim Russo who investigates the haunted celebrities, such as Regis Philbin, Gina Gershon, Chazz Palminteri and others! Mewsually I don’t like to be spooked by the supurrnatural / purranormal reality / documentary type of shows which make my tail shiver, plus we have our own magick & appurritions here at the island, but we wanted to see the one purrticular epurrsode of this recent TV series, because its haunted celebrity is Fairuza Balk http://www.fairuza.com! She is the lovely multi-talented Renaissance girl as the cinema & TV actress, anime & game seiyou, mewsician, painter, and maker of the purretty candles who supports the social & animal causes!

The first movie of hers that I saw was Return to Oz, in which she purrtrayed Dorothy, and in our March 2011Mew we shined the spotlight on her cat-like character Aissa of the 1996 movie adaptation The Island of Dr. Moreau, in which she did the graceful kitty dance! In the Haunting epurrsode she mentions how animals are drawn to her, such as the time of the 13 cats, but this time two spirits are drawn to her, as Kim channels the good purrotective spirit and the mean violent spirit! As they purrtrol the floors of the building of Fairuza’s art space,  Kim senses the unwelcome force, an uneasy Fairuza needs the pause after a clairvoyant revelation, there is the jittery moment in the freight elevator, and upstairs neighbor Erica has also suffered from the scary painful encounters!

There are intense scenes with actors as the ghosts, flashbacks of the purrior lives, quick images of the cats, the near-possession of Erica, and Fairuza’s injury from the mirror push! The show was a bit captivating, but it felt too padded out by the replay repurrtitions. I did not care for the swishy blur of the ghost shots, nor the zooms & wobbly style of the camera upon Kim, Fairuza & Erica, but the ladies did have the nice clothes, such as Kim’s nice shoes & floral purrint shirt with the keyhole sleeves! Erica wore the cute Black shorts outfit with the boots, and Fairuza wore the Black scoop-neck blouse with the Dark Green skirt, the slippurrs, the jewelry and the ink! We got to see her candles too! Supposedly the ghosts are gone, but I wonder if more cats will visit? Well, nyow here is Petra to tell us about the

Tori Amos Gold Dust CD & DVD!

Petra:

Hai, we are fans of Tori Amos because she is the brilliant song writer, vocalist & pianist, nya! She also has the purretty Red hair of such lush body & iridescent sheen, nya! For our review of her Midwinter’s Grace CD, please see the January 2010 Mew, for review of her Live From The Artists Den DVD, see the August 2010 Mew, and for our review of her Night of Hunters CD, see the October 2011 Mew, nya!
