Mike:

So, what has everyone been up to

Since The Purrior Mew?

Ilyana:

Well, purrior to the Spurring Break I have used the purride and joy of the underwater ROV (Remote Opurrated Vehicle) which was purrvided by Jenjen’s Robotics Club to help with the underwater archaeology! It is the shame that Jenjen could not purrticipate in this Mew but I hope they are having the fun time!

Mary Nyan:

Hai she rarely misses The Mew but this time the busy schedule caught up, but she and her belly dance troupe will be back soon from the festival! I had the narrow luck with my busy calendar, but my hula dance students will return after the break! Otherwise I have been busy at the shrine as mewsual and sewing the costumes!

Elizabeth:

Aside from the work at our spa, it has been the purrkour team by day and the hot salsa dance at night, when we have not been busy with the matsuri at the shrine, but Myayr and I have been there less since the mew appurrentice miko has been putting in the hours, so it looks like the passing of the torch!

Becca:

It has been bustling at the spa as mewsual but I have been taking care of the two cats, purracticing the golf, and I bought the mew outfit for the hot salsa dance! I have the reading & DVD reports but that is for later in the show! So what is mew with our dear mermaid friends who grace us with their purresence?

Nyssy:

We are so glad to be here and thank y’all for inviting us back to the show! I just started a new scrap book and a knitting project, and I am so excited that Nyoka wants to sell some of our jewelry at her shop!

We plan to discuss that further when she and Nyanko return from from the martial arts tournament!

Melanakeami:

Hai and I have the new purrl strands to show her! Let’s sea… I have been working on the designs for the graphics wrap for my balloon, and helping out at the Sea Dragon shelter when I am not supervising the catering for Sheila May’s! Now it is the Sommeleir’s turn!

Ne’ellakaliomi:

Oh oh by the way ‘Tami and Tsu were sorry they could not attend but they say Shello!I guess besides work at the restaurant and volunteering at the shelter, the next big plans are the caMERa club’s upcoming photo safari to the deep trench!

Kianalani:

Hai I can’t wait to try out my new Nikon and snap some great pics in the abyss! I have also been helping with the shelter, the ikebana club, working at the restaurant!, and we might start selling our own special house blend of the deep roast coffee!

Lourdessaluorno:

It is the shame that Vonny, Trini & Tara-chan also had the calendar conflict, but I saw them earlier out past the shoals when my surf purrtrol shift ended, and I suspect their boat will soon be fully laden with the Groupers, Snappers and Tunas!

Mielikki:

Fur shur!

Melanakeami:

Hai, Vonny knows all of the sweet spots to reel in the big fish!

Ne’ellakaliomi

Hopefully they will be here for the AfterMew luau! Say, where is Ru-chan?

Lourdessaluorno:

He was with them, because Tara-chan wanted to take the manatee photos for her nature journal!

Kianalani:

She should join our caMERa club! What has Mie-sensei been up to?

Mielikki:

We are about to wrap up the Winter season at the forest theater, and then I will be on the faerway for golf tour, and then I will be back to start the Spring theatre season, and I look forward to the next exhibits at the mewseum!

Nyssy:

Hai we are looking forward to volunteer at this year’s body art show!

Petra:

Hai we will be discussing that at our next Mewseum meeting, so please be there, nya! I expect that Nyoka, Nyanko, Vonny, Tara-chan & Trini-chan will be there too, nya! Tara-chan is already pondering what tempurrary tattoos she will wear for the exhibit, nya!

Mielikki:

She seems partial to the stripes! What else have y’all been up to?

Petra:

I have the time for the various local artisan meetings and the beach volleyball, and she has been the busy Bunni-bun, nya!

Bun:

Hai, other than the mewseum, since last month’s Mew I have been occupied with the volleyball, the reading, baking more of the carrot cakes, and the gardening the Hibiscus and the Nandina! I must say that Ilyana has the very pretty garden too!

Ilyana:

Arigato! By the way, how is Lizzy’s garden growing?

Elizabeth:

The Hydrangea and the Iris are splendidly blooming, thank you!

Bun:

Mike’s turn!

Mike:

I was so very honored to be a guest again at WhatTheHell?! Con and I had fun at the Nevermore Film Festival, which we’ll be discussing those later! Um… oh what else… I watched the Oscars, some college hoops, Doctor Who DVDs, gathered with friends, and…  otherwise I’ve just tried to catch up on my writing and art work… that’s about it! Ah, well we’ve got a lot lined up for today’s show, so let’s go ahead and dive into the next topic!

Petra:

Nyow it is time for the visual arts portion of the Mew, to start with our favorite

Recent Fish Photos & Appurrtizing Images, nya!

This is the portion of The Mew in which we mention our favorite recent images of fish and other delicacies from the deep, which have appeared on the recent angling, diving, nature. aquarium & cooking purriodicals, nya! These are examples of both the fine photography, and of the succulent subject that our tummies crave, such as delicious Red Drums on the February cover of North Carolina Sportsman, the big Bass & Crappie on the March cover of North Carolina Game & Fish, the lovely Largemouth on the cover of In-Fisherman’s 2013 Bass Guide, and Marianne Huskey’s catch of the wonderful Walleye In-Fisherman’s 2013 Walleye Guide, nya!

She is not the only lady angler with the piscine purrize, as the girl in the bikini poses with the the yummy Yellowfin Tuna on the cover of The Angler Magazine vol. 19 #217, nya! There is mouth-watering Mako on the March cover of Saltwater Sportsman, the other supurrb shark on the cover of Dive The World #5, and the delicious dish of the Crawdad Fetuccini on the March / Apurril cover of Louisiana Cookin’ magazine, nya! Oh this is making me hungry, but I will try to wait until the AfterMew Luau, nya! That is all of the photography portion, but to continue to the visual art appurreciation here is Bunni-bun to tells us all about the mewest illustrative additions to

The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!

Bun:

Hai! This month we are purroud to present 4 illustrative additions to Guest Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html of the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art! For those who are here for the first time, Galleries 1-5 are the exhibits of Mike’s illustrations and photographs, whilst Guest Galleries 1 and 2 display the images from other folks with their kind permissions! On the web site, the most recent pics are on the bottom row of the widdle “thumbnail” portions, so just click on one of the ‘thumbnails’ to see the entire picture!

Firstly of those pics is the marker & colored pencil illustration of the Steam Punk Catgirl by Meesha D. Jackson http://meeshadj.squarespace.com, who was among the great artists at WhatTheHell?! Con 2013! This tall, dark and beautiful catgirl is prettily perched upon the artist’s table at the convention, wearing the off-shoulder frilly blouse with the matching short skirt, the stripe stockings, and the buckley boots to match the strappy corset are accessorized by the goggles, the ornate jewelry, and the tantalizing paw-gloves!

Secondly is the pen & ink & colored pencil pic of  “Meerowl!” by Dark Dug of Dragons Entwined Studio! It is the meerowl of Yara of Dark Dug & Neesa’s fantasy / steam punk tale of the Pirates of Tezomea http://freetezomea.com! This is the 2nd pic of Yara to grace the mewseum! She is the frisky, fierce, feline, femme, fatale & First Mate who provides the muscle for the crew of the airship Heaven’s Blessing! She is peppy, powerful and hard to resist, but you should be careful because she plays rough!

Thirdly is the delightful pencil, pen & ink scene of The Three Sisters playing with the cute widdle kitties by Angela Clay Helms of Mourning Daily Publishing http://www.mourningdaily.com! The sisters are the peppy supernatural trio who spirit the human girl Tanya to their magickal realm in Mourning Daily’s fantasy graphic novel of Mythical Magick: Lemuria, Land of Light and Dark! Mourning Daily’s other supurr fun titles include The Purrfect Adventures; Suburban Fighters, Super Zero High, and Island of Rotting Corpses!

Fourthly we have the bonus treat of the colored version of “Purrsephone” pic! Perhaps y’all have seen the original Black & White image in Gallery 5 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery5/170.html? In 2007, Mike pencil drew that original pic of the catgirl form of the Greek goddess with the yummy Pomegranate fruit in the underworld, which Angela Clay Helms recently digitally colored! I should mention that Purrsephone is wearing the sheer, diaphanous gown that tastefully exposes much of her much of her semi-nude divine body!I don’t think it is any naughtier is worse than most of the classical Greek or Roman statues you might see in the other museums, but the fair warning can’t hurt!

Melanakeami:

love the translucent quality of Purrsephone’s gown and the glow of her candle to illuminate the cavern!

Kianalani:

Hai, Angela’s use of the color and light has such a magickal ambience!

Ilyana:

The Three Sisters pic is full of such playful kitten fun, and I like the happy & serene poses, accessorized by the wand toy, the bowl of food, and the bottle of the milk!

Lourdessaluorno:

Hai it is great, and I hope to see more of those Sisters and Tanya when they visit the mermaids of Atlantis in the next volume of Mythical Magick!

Becca:

Yara is grinning and baring her sharp fangs, strong claws, and her chiseled tummy, with the wardrobe change from the purrior pic http://catgirlisland.net/art/guest2/58.html!

Nyssy:

Hai she is wearing the midriff vest & skirt in the new pic, whereas in the older pic she wore the loin cloth and the asymmetric halter top with the spiked shoulder armor!

Ne’ellakaliomi:

Meesha’s Steam Punk Catgirl has the synched tight corset sammiched betwixt the short ruffle skirt to match the White off – shoulder poet blouse, in the contrast with her beautiful darker skin tone!

Mary Nyan:

Hai and she has such lovely symmetry, shading and style, with the ornamental intricacy of the buckles, straps, lacings, chains, beads and curls to add to the steamy style, mew la la!

Mielikki:

Fur shur!

Petra:

Thank you for presenting the art, nya!

Bun:

Dooitashimaste!

Elizabeth:

Now it is Mike’s turn to tell us about the event where those beautiful artworks came from, in his

WhatTheHell?!Con Report!

Mike:

Thanks Lizzy! WhatTheHell?! Con http://wthcon.guilcoyachting.org is a delightful, free little sci-fi / fantasy convention at pretty Guilford College, on the mainland in Greensboro NC, and sponsored by the Guilford College Yachting Club. I think the con started in 2001 or 2002; I’ve attended since 2007, and I’ve been honored to be one of the guests there since 2008! In recent years the convention’s activities occur within the college’s Dana and Duke buildings, with a few outdoor activities. The club members, event staff, guests, dealers & attendees are a nice group of people who make the con one of the most fun events that I look forward to every year, even when it gets snowed upon! That happened again for a while on Saturday, when the con transpired on the chilly weekend of February 15th -17th, 2013!

Among the great artists, authors, publishers & venders in attendance were Kel McDonald, Niki Lemonade, Meesha Jackson, Phillip Wright, Christopher B. Wright, Davey Beauchamp, Theresa & Glen Bane, Mourning Daily Publishing, Dragons Entwined Studios, Chained Elegance, Gorgious Chain, Clockwork Jungles, Whimzical Whizkers, Buzzy Multimedia, and Hero’s Haven! There was much lovely original art, prints, comics, graphic novels, prose & non-fiction books, games, tee shirts, plushies, jewelry, chain & scale mail fashions for sale! The performing artist guests included the great sword fighting knights of European Medieval Arts of Arms, the fire dancing & juggling Flaming Fairies troupe, and the very entertaining concert by the Sex Bob-omb band which preceded the fun Geek Auction for charity!

Although the attendance was less than in some previous years, perhaps due to the weather or other events that same weekend, there were still other friends and familiar faces so good to see there! The Mew’s March 2008 guest Misty Hopkins, our May 2010 Guest Chainmail Chick, our August 2012 guest Lady Violet Arcane, and several folks from Stellar Con were there! The con set-up & registration began at 5:30 pm that Friday, with the registration / info desk, artists, guests, cosplay, concert, dance & auction in the Dana building. In the Duke building were the venders’ rooms , video rooms, gaming rooms, readings, discussions & workshops! The workshops included sewing, knitting, jewelry & kimonos; and the gaming included various tabletop RPG’s, board games & video games!

There were men’s & womens lacrosse matches going on at the nice nearby field, but those weren’t part of the con! The light snowfall subsided by late Saturday afternoon, and after a delicious supper at a nearby Thai restaurant, it was time to go back to the Dana Auditorium for the main events of the concert and Geek Auction, the latter fun to benefit the Child’s Play charity! In addition to Meesha in her beautiful steam punk dress and the EMMA Knights in their medieval armor, the festive fashions and cosplay included the kilts, Star Trek, Star Wars, Yamato, Doctor Who, Portal, Homestuck. internet Meme costumes; Niki and her friend entered the auction as the cosplaying as the female versions of Tony Stark & Agent Coulson! After the auction was the DJ’d dance, but I didn’t stay for that.

I returned to the con after breakfast around 9:30 am on the chilly but clear Sunday morning. Sunday at WhatTheHell?! Con tends to be much more sedate compared to Saturday night, and I mostly chatted with with folks in the art room, Dana lobby, and the venders’ rooms, and before I knew it it was already Sunday afternoon, and folks began to pack up as another fun con wound down to the close! So that’s about it, and I would like to thank all of the very talented, kind & gracious staff, volunteers, venders, attendees, and fellow guests who made this year’s WhatTheHell?! Con yet another wonderful, special event, and I sure do hope that I’ll be there again next year! The following weekend we made the jaunt back to the mainland for another fun event, so now here is Ilyana to report on the

Nevermore Film Festival!

Ilyana:

Hai, we revisited the mainland to attend the 14th annual Nevermore Film Festival http://festivals.carolinatheatre.org/nevermore at the stately Carolina Theater http://www.carolinatheatre.org in downtown Durham, NC! It is one of their fabulous film festivals, retrospectives, concert, stage shows, kids & educational entertainment! It is the neat multi-story place with the fountains in the outdoor plaza, next to the Durham convention center where we attended the NC ComiCon in November! There are lots of nice shops and places to eat near there too!

The theatre has the three screens, including the main Fletcher Hall which seats over 1,000 people and has 2 balconies and the box seats! There are several ticket booths, concession stands, nooks to congregate, the cafe, and for the Nevermore there are a few venders and lots of spooky decor! Everyone was so friendly & cordial, with great pride & enthusiasm for the theatre and the festivals, and there were several members of movie cast & crews to discuss the movies! This year’s Nevermore was the weekend of February 23-24, showing 10 recent North American independent horror feature films, the purrograms of the international long & short form short films, and the 1979 classic Dawn of the Dead! Nyow I would like to say the bit about a few of the films we watched!

Firstly was the 99 minute R rated 2013 film John Dies at the End, which was directed by Don Coscarelli who is also famous for Phantasm, Beast Master and Bubbah Ho-tep! It is the quirky amewsing sci fi / horror film starring Clancy Brown, Paul Giamatti & Glynn Thurman about the two friends Dave & John with psychic powers who investigate the hauntings, exorcise the possessions, fight the monsters, tangle with the conspurracies, and travel through time and space! It has lots of humor, action, gore and creatures! Nextly we saw They’re Coming To Get You Barbara! It is the R Rated, 85 minute collection of 10 recent serious & humorous horror shorts from the USA & Canada! Nyow I will give the very quick tidbit for those 10 shorts!

Blue Hole involves the supurrnatural abductions at the cabin & pond in the wilderness, Klagger is set in the haunted abandoned creepy factory, Sandwich Crazy is the devilish tale of the funny food fear at the bistro, Til Death Do Us is about the wedding interrupted by the zombies, and The Stolen is the sad unfortunate tale of the widdle girl who meets the rural dark fey.  Torturous is the hilarious gory session with the career councilor and the torturer, Trash is the gruesome yet charming incident of the romantic floral revenge, Game depicts the encounter between the hillbillies and the were-mermaid, Lot 66 has the psychological terror at the new house, and Take That is about guy who works late night at the office and should not have allowed the sexy lady visitor into the warehouse!

After that shorts purrogram we got to ask questions to the purrducer, writer / director, make up artist, and the actors, including Morgan Monnig who purrtrayed Seraphine in Take That! It was so much fun with the good, appurreciative audience in the beautiful grand theatre! Afterwards we went out to eat the delicious pizza suppurr with our friends & past guests Pacozord & Chef Ron! I hope that we will be able to attend some of the other forthcoming events! That is all of the event reports, but nyow here is ‘Lani to begin our batch of

Book & Comic Book Reviews,

with her review of Frank Cho Women Book Two!

Kianalani:

Frank Cho is such a great artist who is perhaps best known for his Liberty Meadows comic strip, super hero comic books, and fantasy illustrations of the dinosaurs, lush scenery and sexy ladies! He is such a nice cordial friendly person who we have had the pleasure to meet at the comic book conventions on the mainland such as Heroes Con and NC Comicon, where he autographed the copies of his prior books! Now we have his new book, Frank Cho Women Book Two – Selected Drawings & Illustrations, which was also published by Image Comics!

The $24.95 book is the 12.25″ tall x 9.25″ wide x .5″ thick hardcover with the 80 full color pages of character design sheets, preliminary pencil sketches, inked drawings, and lavish renderings colored in the traditional & digital media! Most of the images are the full-page pics, showing the stages of the art’s development from the sketch to the finished color piece! This is a very insightful look at the process! The book is organized into the three sections of the Cover art, Brandy art, and other alluring ladies! This includes several tasteful images of scantily clad, semi-nude & nude women, ranging from the figure studies to the whimsically ribald scenes! The colorists include Cho, Nei Ruffino, Brandon Peterson, Tony Harris, Jason Keith, Nikos Koutsis, Nathan Fairbairn, and FCO!

Now I will say a bit about each section. After the forward by Geoff Darrow, the cover art section features Cho’s cover art for a few titles, mostly 50 Girls 50, but also the pics of Girls & Dinos, War Heroes, and the Wolf Man!  After that is the section devoted to lovely Brandy who is the star of his Liberty Meadows strip, with the preliminary sketches beside the final color art, depicting her in the delightful & amusing situations, as the cheerleader, cowgirl, cow milker, the Star Trek and Wonder Woman cosplayer! She is also seen on the swing, reading, dressing, decorating, wishing on the rocks, and climbing the tree to get the kitty! There are more cats, including the big sabre tooth cat, plus the dinosaurs, lizards, and the sea creatures that help or menace the women in the book’s 3rd section!

This includes the sumptuous scenes of the Jungle Queen, Cave Woman, Mars Princess, and various nudes in the media of the pencil, ink, watercolor, colored pencil, digital color, plus the oils & colored ink for the Redhead who also appears on the front cover! In addition to the beautiful anatomy of the women and the critters, the detail of the drapery and the landscapes is quite exquisite, and I am also amazed at the intricate cross – hatching & feathering shading technique of his ball point pen studies! It is a beautiful book which i will heartily recommend to the fans of those subjects and Frank Cho’s art! Now it is Mie-sensei’s turn to tell us about

Wander by Niki Lemonade & Chuui!

Mielikki:

Arigato, ‘Lani! Our November 2008 special guest Niki Lemonade http://nikilemonade.deviantart.com is a totally delightful, friendly artist who we are always glad to see at the various conventions, where she sells her pretty kitty hats, cards, prints, and comics! She recently concluded her wonderful slice – of – life web comic My Fake Heart http://myfakeheart.smackjeeves.com and in latter 2012 she and Chuui launched their whimsical sword & sorcery web comic Wander http://wander.smackjeeves.com! It is already up to volume 2 online and Volume 1 is now available in the print!

So like, it is a 5 1/8 x 7 1/2″ pamphlet size, containing the 32 B&W pages sammiched betwixt the color covers! The plot purrtains to the three protagonist girl friends, Fantz the wanderer who wishes to reclaim her father’s legacy from the temple; Denny the summoner who likes the critters, and Piper the spell-casting bounty hunter! In Volume 1, they meet for the first time on the road to the temple guarded by the giant canine where Frantz spies her father’s blade, and later discuss the strategy over the sumptuous dinner, where they meet evil Raphael who misleads them into the coils of the snake trap!

It is much fun with the amewsing banter in the fantasy environment full of the humor, tricks, traps, beasts, and the places to explore! I must warn y’all that the preview for volume 2 promises the seriously drooling giant spider! The layout of the pages and sequence of the panels tells the tale in the very entertaining manner, with the manga style of sound effects and cute action! There is also the bonus page of the characters’ profiles! They have the lovely garments too! Denny wears the Blue & White gown with the detached sleeves, Fantz has the long braided ponytail and the Green tunic, and Piper wears the Gold & Brown ensemble with the totally awesome courier bag!

I like the other color print of the trio relaxing upon the tree branches! There is also the prior widdle  3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ “To The Beach” mini-comic by Nikki from 2011, with the color wraparound cover & 8 page B&W incident in which the trio pawses for donuts at the beach, with the totally undesired results! It is such a fun and well drawn adventure by Niki & Chuui which I will give the high praise and the grade of an “A” as in Arilsden, which is Denny’s full name! So that will conclude my report, but there is more of the comic book magick to discuss, so I will turn The Mew over to Nyssy, who wants to tell us about

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #18!

Nyssy:

Arigato Bunni-bun! The officially canonical 9th season of Buffy brilliantly continues in the 28 page comic book priced which is $2.99 from Dark Horse Comics, and comprised of the 22 page tale “Welcome To The Team Part Three, plus the 2 pages of the readers’ & editor’s interesting comments and the 4 pages of the advertisements! The tale’s script by Andrew Chambliss was purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon, pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Dexter Vines, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn, Scott Allie, and assitantly edited Freddye Lins! The issue is available in the choice of 2 different covers, one illustrated by Phil Noto, and the variant cover illustrated by Jeanty, Madsen and Vines!

We have been very happy with the art in the Buffy & Angel comics, because not only are the characters so expressive and dynamically posed, but they have faithful portraiture in resemblance to the actors of the TV shows, such as Sarah Michelle Geller, Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendon! Much of this issue depicts the fierce fight of Buffy, Illyira and Koh against the villain Severn, who has been siphoning the energy from the vampires and demons to make himself more powerful, and now he wants to absorb Illyira’s energy! We were so glad to see the return of Illyria! There is much thrilling combat melee amidst all of the luminous energy that crackles like the magickal lightning! The colors are so rich and vibrant, and I love the sheen and the deep Blue hues of Illyria’s hair, eyes and lips!

She is not the only familiar demon face, because D’Hoffryn is also lurking about with the rest of the demon council who are concerned about Severn! Meanwhile, Xander is concerned about poor Dawn who is of the grave illness coma in the hospital, and turns to Andrew for help when the doctors are clueless about Dawn’s condition! This results in the tale’s good balance of the tense drama with the humorous geeky camaraderie! There is also the camaraderie betwixt Buffy’s housemate Anaheed and slayer rookie Billy, who snoop around the vampires’ nest, where more of the slayage ensues! This was another issue full of the great characters, drama, humor, dialogue and the supernatural action! Speaking of which, now here is Ilyana to tell us what Buffy’s best friend Willow is up to in

Willow #4!

Ilyana:

Arigato! We are big fans of the Buffy and Angel series, and we have consistently purraised the Buffy season 8 & 9 series of the comics which have so wonderfully, faithfully & canonically continued the slayage from the TV shows! We have also been enjoying the adjoining miniseries, such as the Spike series which recently ended, and this supurrb Willow series which occurs after Angel & Faith #14! It stars Buffy’s brave, brainy, beautiful, bewitching best friend Willow Rosenberg who is among our favoritest characters, as she searches for an extradimensional source to replenish the magick of the Earth, which has ceased to flow ever since Buffy destroyed the magick seed in the climax of Season 8!

This quest has taken Willow to the different worlds such as “Wonderland” realm of the monsters, mages and her lover Aluwyn, the Naga girl, but it might be the seductive purradise  from which Willow might not wish to leave! Purriced $2.99, issue #4 is compurrised of the 22 page tale of “Wonderland part 4” plus the the 4 pages of the ads, and the 2 pages of the very interesting comments by the readers & editor! There are 2 gorgeous covers to choose from, including  Megan Lara’s scene of Willow and Marrack the bestial mage, and David Mack’s image of Willow looks like the Goddess with the scythe! We think all of the Willow covers are so purretty and would be the nice posters or purrints!

The tale was purrfectly purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon whose Avengers movie was our favoritest movie of 2012! The comic book is published by Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Comics with the consistent high quality, delightfully designed by Justin Crouch, excellently edited by Sierra Hahn, Scott Allie, awesomely assitantly edited Freddye Lins, magnificently colored by Michelle Madsen, luxuriously lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, supurrbly scripted by Jeff Parker & Christos Gage! We also enjoy Gage’s writing on Angel & Faith, and we sure do miss his great Avengers Academy comic book! It seems the Avengers were in the good hands between Whedon & Gage!

The wonderful witchy Willowy tale is so beautifully by Brian Ching, and oh gosh, I cannot say enough lofty purraise about the light, lyrical look of the art, with such alluring designs of the characters, their clothes, creatures, scenery and the magckal FX! Willow, Aluwyn & the other characters are so exquisitely expurressive & purrfectly posed! In this next – to – last issue, after awakening in the morning after camping out with Aluwyn, Willow has the serious heartfelt chat and realizations, the startling visions and revelations, with the images of many familiar faces, the tough choices to make! Willow has the surpurrise encounters which I will not spoil, but I will hint that more familiar characters do appurr!

The pallet of the colors seems to have the magickal quality itself as the passage of the day and the moods are depicted, up to the thrilling cliffhanger! This 5 issue mini – series is so good that I am so torn between my desire to see Willow’s adventures in Wonderland continue longer, and the desire to see her re-united with Buffy, Faith, Angel and the rest of the gang! We wish to thank all of those mega – talented folks at Dark Horse, and we will continue to give this lovely, delightful tale the high grade of the “A” as in Alyson Hannigan who purrtrayed Willow on TV, and currently stars in the hit comedy TV show of How I Met Your Mother! Nyow for more of the magickal tales, here is Myayr to discuss

Jim Balent’s Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #78

(warning: plot spoilers and boobies mentioned)

Mary Nyan:

Tarot is the occult fantasy / action/ adventure comic book published by Broadsword Comics, purrtaining to artist / author’s Jim Balent’s powerful, sexy warrior witch Tarot, and it is a lot of fun with such beautiful art and the interesting Pagan heroines, but the series not intended for the widdle kitties, due to the content of nudity, sexuality violence & language of the illustrations, photographs and text! Jim Balent is the also the publisher / purresident of Broadsword, and his gorgeous wife Holly wife is the vice purresident, colorist, letterer, purrduction purriestess & occasional cover model! She is so talented, purrky & purretty with the lovely Red hair and she creates the delightful supurrnatural web comic School Bites, whose cast includes a cute vampire catgirl Fujiko!

Jim Balent is no stranger to catgirls either, between Tarot’s friend Boo Cat, and Balent’s purrior tenure drawing DC Comics’ Catwoman, but I digress! Purriced $2.95, issue #78 has the lavish 32 full color pages including the nicely uninterrupted 22 page tale “The Dark Spiral Part Four: Stolen Spells”, followed by the 10 pages of photos, bonuses & advertisements! It has the choice of three variant covers; Cover A is the medium shot of nearly nude Raven hex framed by the various fey & magickal items, the equally distributed cover B is the 3/4 frontal view of her in the coils of the tentacles & snake amidst the other arcane elements! The rarer incentive edition cover depicts Raven & Tarot’s buxom Redhead Mom in the low cut Black dress accompanied by the pixies!

The issue was edited by Neil Morris, with colors flattened by Randi Leeann, and Madeleine Le Roy (photographed by Don S) as the model for Raven Hex, the star of this issue whilst her sister Tarot has been spirited away by evil faeries, who are not filled with the aloha spirit & southern hospurrtality as our fae residents! Raven Hex & Tarot are the very powerful, voluptuous, and often scantily clad witches, but Raven Hex is the meaner sibling. She is nude or semi – nude in this issue, except for the the spiked choker, cloak, boots, opurra – length Black gloves to match her lashes, mascara, lips, hair, and the intricate spiral of the dark tattoos across her pale cool grey skin! Purreviously, she was looking for the yummy mushrooms in the forest when she was attacked!

This issue begins with her pinned to the ground by the skeletal arms, and in the first 15 pages she bitterly reflects upon her rough life full of lustful cravings for the taboo & arcane arts, amidst the surreal visions of the spooky trees, wicked faeries, skeletons, snakes, tentacles, candles, spell books, blades, fangs & claws! The grumbles & flashbacks purrsist until the arrival of the very powerful dappurr Lord Thornwic of the fey realm on page 14! His long coat is of a rich Green, with a leafy Gold trim & buttons, leafy shoulder epawlets, accessorized by the very ornate beaked mask! Although he frees her, their meeting is less than cordial, as the exchange of the tauntful trash talking ensues, followed by his unwanted smooch, spank & boot, to which she furiously responds!

The Green fireball & Blue lightning bolt that she casts colorfully illuminate the pages’ pallet of macabre Greys & Blacks, but otherwise her counter- attack does little to impurress her opponent! With the hostilities out of the way, they calm down and teleport to the mansion to recruit her mom & Jon to help rescue Tarot! The character designs & scenic art are quite erotic, exotic and intricate, rendered with great detail & supurrb use of the color & light! The graphic narrative is of the brisk pace, with many overlapping panels of various sizes and is book-ended by the impurressive full – page panels!

The 10 pages after the chapter include the photo of Diana Rice as the issue’s Broadsword Girl, the readers’ comments & variant cover art gallery, the photo of lovely Le Roy to advertise her calendar, the ad for The Grimassi’s cute Mandrake-Kin dolls; 4 pages advertising the Broadsword, Tarot & School Bites purroducts with the cute art & photo of Holly; and a two-page collage of Holly & Jim’s holiday vacation & theme park photos! To nicely maximize the space, the interior front cover includes the credits, publishing information & more photo of Holly & Jim’s vacation, whilst the exterior back cover purrvides the purreview of the next issue! This concludes my comic book report, but there is much more comic book magick on tap as Melanakeami tells us about

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #3

Melanakeami:

Arigato! We are fans of the My Little Pony animated TV series, so we were eager to get our paws upon this comic book published by IDW! We gave issues #1 & #2 the grade of A as in Appaloosa, so we ere quite eager for the 3rd issue! Issue #3 is priced $3.99 and begins with the framing sequence of Spike the widdle dragon and the bunny dressed as the barkers to introduce the flashback incident of evil Queen Chrysalis and her Changeling army who are defeated in Canterlot and fall from the sky to land in the town Wuvy Dovey Smoochy Land of the cute loving kitties! The evil Changelings scour the town & feed off the wuvy emotions, while the Queen licks her chops and schemes the vengeful plan to lure Queen Celestia’s assistant Twilight Sparkle into the trap to slurp up her magick power!

To bait the trap, the villain captured the Cutie Mark Crusaders, who are 3 younger fillies Apple Bloom, Scootaloo & Sweetie Belle! The older mane six ponies Twliight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash & Apple Jack mounted the expedition through the dangerous caves & forest to rescue their younger sisters! In this issue Fluttershy & Twliight Sparkle try to escape a hungry Chupacabra in the valley and rendezvous with the others at the gates of the Changeling Kingdom, where the evil queen grows annoyed by the three captive fillies! Apple Jack & Rarity try to escape into the river & falls from the carnivorous flowers; whilst Pinkie Pie & Rainbow Dash flee from the vampiric Jackalopes! The amusing pursuits lead to the reunion of the mane six, much to the nausea of Queen Chysalis!

However, the mission is far from over and the fillies still have to be rescued!  The 22 page chapter was written by Katie Cook, drawn by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Robbie Robbins, & edited by Bobby Curnow! In addition to that pony tale, the 32 page issue has the 10 pages of ads and choice of many variant covers! There are 3 mane cover plus even more rarer retail store exclusive covers! You can see the pics of all the covers in this issue’s inside covers! I got cover B by Stephanie Buscema, which depicts Pinkie Pie & Rainbow Dash ice skating on the snowy pond! This issue was so much fun with the wonderful characters in the whimsical situations with the amewsing dialogue, humorous action that gallops at the purrfect pace, and the beautiful art of the gorgeous color & faithful style for the ponies’ purrfect poses, expurressions & gestures! It is such an entertaining joy to read, which I will recommend to “everypony”! Now for the second Pony report I would like to discuss

My Little Pony Micro-Series #1: Twilight Sparkle

Melanakeami:

IDW is also publishing the companion series to focus on a particular pony per issue! This 1st issue focuses upon Twilight Sparkle, the pretty purple pony with the widdle unicorn horn, and whose dark Blue mane & tail has the Pink stripe! She has the starburst shaped cutie mark on the flanks! She is the very inquisitive, magickal pony who assists Princess Celestia in Canterlot and has the dragon friend named Spike! In this tale, she is nervous about her next magick test, which gets postponed while she helps Summer Mane at the royal archive library!  The $3.99 issue has the 32 pages, which consist of the 22 tale plus the 10 pages of the ads, and there several variant covers to choose from! The story, art & lettering are by Thomas Zahler, it was colored by Ronda Pattison, edited by Bobby Curnow, I got cover B by Zahler which depicts Twilight Sparkle & Spike riding on the large flying book over Ponyville!

The tale begins on the nervous hoof for Twilight Sparkle as she reports to the archive which is full of so many books, but Summer Mane is in the grumpy mood, but perhaps that is because of her hurt front left leg! Summer Mane is the light Green horned pony with the Yellow mane & tail, the glasses, and the bookshelf shaped cutie mark, but maybe she is the grumpy mare because she also has the secrets which the smart younger pony might deduce as they get to know each other! Of course while in such a vast place full of the books to be jacketed and shelved, a pony who loves to read could get distracted from the job! It is such a beautifully illustrated, cute, delightful tale of the great characters which i will also recommend to “everypony”! The next issue will focus upon Rainbow Dash! That is all of the pony report, but there is still much more comic book magic to be discussed, and now here is Ne-ne to tell us about

Fairest #12!

Ne’ellakaliomi:

Hai! Fairest is the spin-off series of DC / Vertigo Comics’ Fables, the tale of the characters of myth & lore who reside secretly among the mortal populace in the Fabletown district of New York, and in this story arc that transcends time & space, Rapunzel and her magnififcent magickal hair have gone to Japan in search of her long-lost children. Joining her are her hair stylist Joel the Crow and Jack the naughty lad, and awaiting them are the helpful yokai such as Katagiri the Kappa Imp and Neko the magickal cat, but so are the dangerous enemies such as Mayumi the Kuchisake-onna / assassin and Tomoko the Kitsune / Yakuza boss! The tale is in modern Tokyo with the flashbacks to the ancient Hidden Kingdom, as we see the heart-breaking origin of Rapunzel, Tomoko & Mayumi’s relationships!

Issue #12 is priced $2.99, with the cover art by Adam Hughes and the full color 32 interior pages comprised of the 12 pages of the ads plus the 20 page, 5th chapter of The Hidden Kingdom arc! It was written by Lauren Beukes, illustrated by Iniki Minada, colored by Eva De la Cruz, lettered by Todd Klein, edited by Shelly Bond, and assistantly edited by Gregory Lockard, with the consultation by the Fables series creator Bill Willingham! The tale continues to jump from the tragic flashbacks of the poor exiled yokais’ plight and survival, with Mayumi’s treachery and Tomoko’s desperate survival tactics, to the modern feud that gives new meaning to the bad hair day! While Tomoko chomps upon her Jack snack, Neko meets Fabletown’s Sheriff Bigby Wolf & Rapunzel’s bewitching mom Frau Totenkinder !

They have followed her Rapunzel to Japan! They meet Katagiri, while Jack fails to escape from Tomoko, as she and Rapunzel both prepare for the big battle in this next-to-last chapter of The Hidden Kingdom tale! The series is the beautiful, captivating, emotional, poignant tale of such lavishly rendered characters, clothes, coiffures, creatures, contemporary & historical architecture & landscapes, but it is also laden with the harsh language, combat & chomping violence, and the hairy, bloody, gore, and so the tale is suggested for the mature readers! Fairest has been one of our favorite DC comics since their big reboot, and I give it the grade of the “A” as in the great anticipation that I consistently have for each next issue! Speaking of our favorite DC Comics since the reboot, Now I would like to discuss

Ame-Comi Girls #5!

Ne’ellakaliomi:

Ame-Comi Girls is one of our favoritest DC comics of the past few years, nya! It is the series starring the versions of the DC heroines & villainesses based upon the line of anime style statues, which we like to collect, nya! The serialized tale has featured several of those characters, and tends to focus on a main character per issue, such as Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Duela, Power Girl and now Super Girl! The series is written Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, lettered by Wes Abbot, colored by Randy Mator, edited by Jim Chadwick, assistantly edited by Sarah Gaydos! Thus far each issue has been illustrated by a different artist, and issue #5’s interior art is by Santi Casas! The beautiful Supergirl cover art is by Emanuela Lupacchino & Fabio Mantovani who also rendered the purrior issue’s cover art of Power Girl!

She appears in this issue too, along with Supergirl, Steel, Flash, Robin, Catwoman, Harley, Ivy, Duela, Wonder Woman and the Manhunter girls who fight against the female Brainiac! Batgirl, The Cheetah and the Silver Banshee girls are not in this issue, but there is the flashback to Supergirl’s daddy Jor-El & Powergirl’s daddy Zor-El on Krypton! The issue is priced $3.99 and has the 40 pages, consisting of the 20 page tale plus the credits page & the 9 ad pages! 6 of the pages are the spectacular full page pics, but I think the entire issue is impressive! The plot pertains to the evil Brainac, the inorganic semi – humanoid cyber villainess, who already attacked Krypton and now attacks the Earth! The heroines are very busy combating Brainiac and her army of flying gynoid replicas!

The dire threat is made even worse when she infects Supergirl with the Black Kryptonite, who becomes evil and attacks the other heroines!  It is the fun tale of thrilling action at the brisk pace, and superb art with the dazzling, rich vibrant color!  We especially like the style of the character & costume designs based upon the statues! When Supergirl turns evil, her Red & Blue costume with the Gold trim turns Black & Red with the Silver trim! Brainac is the Green humanoid from the hips up, and below the hips she has the sort of squid – like body of long Black mecha tentacles! I will give this issue the grade of the “A” as in Ame-Comi, and the exciting cliffhanger surprise leaves me extremely eager for the next issue! Speaking of the fun comics with the beautiful costumes, here is Lizzy to tell us about

Critter vol. 2 #8!

Elizabeth:

Arigato Ne-ne! ! Big Dog Ink’s Critter comic book is such a fun comic book with the gleaming color & sexy costumes of the nekomimi motif, starring Cassia as the costumed catgirl supurr heroine Critter! Her costume is the bare midriff, low-rise, sharp-clawed shiny Blue & White costume with the whip like mecha tail and the radio kitty ear pinna! Since she moved to Los Angeles to attend the college with her genius best friend Gina, she met Jason the photo journalist and was recruited by Cougar to join her catgirl-styled Purrfection team of Mouser, Kitten and Pole Kat!  However, Cassia was disappointed with Purrfection’s purreoccupation in the fame more than fighting the crime!

This difference of the purriorities has lead to the arguments on the verge of the team’s break up!  Furthermore, whilst being haunted by the ghost of murdered comrade Josie, Cassia has also expurrienced the odd tempurral ripples which the Core team investigate, and she is unaware that her heroic mom is the purrisioner of a villain in the future!  In the purrior issue, Purrfection went to Las Vegas to appurr at the Babylon Casino with the sorceress named The Apprentice, who can conjure the illusions & spirits, but she is stalked by the cult known as The Black Collars! Cougar is not the only one with the secrets, as do the casino’s supurrnatural staff of Jezebel, Bethany and Danica!

This brings us to issue #8, as Critter expurriences another tempurral ripple, while the stage show goes awry as the Black Collar cult strikes to purrloin The Apprentice’s magickal powers!  #8 is purriced at $3.50 and has the 28 full color pages, compurrised of the uninterrupted 22 page tale written by Tom Hutchison, illustrated by Fico Ossio & edited by Kari Castor; plus the bonus character purrofile page, the purreview page for tissue #9, and the 4 page tale of Super Pawn by Jeff Pina! Kel Nuttall lettered the Critter & Super Pawn tales! This issue is available in the 5 different covers, cover A by Ossio, cover B by Jenevieve Broomhall, cover C by Renato Reo, cover D by Pina, and cover E by Mike Debalfo!

I got cover B which depicts Critter sammiched between the two Vegas devil girls!  The tale resumes with the big brawl upon the stage with the ladies of Purrfection & Babylon against Black Collars and the spirits that are conjured amongst the fiery illusions! The magick has the affect on the ghost of Josie who helps Cassia, Danica’s true identity is revealed, and there are some unpleasant repurrcussions!  Later in the Super Pawn bonus we are introduced to Ronnie who manages the pawn shop for the hero & villain customers! This was another rousing, action – packed, emotional issue with some sad parts!

It is beautifully rendered in the rich vibrant colors that greatly add to the fabulous gleam of the dazzling locations, with the luminous magickal energy and many gorgeous sexy costumes!  I purrticularly liked the alternate costume for Critter as she pounces upon the purrey in the ripple!  We did not get to see her mom, Gina or Core friends, but there were already so many characters in the battle royale! Critter continues to be full of the fashionable feline female fun in the glamorous, mysterious supurr heroine adventure, and I am already craving the next issue! Speaking of the catgirls, it is time for our

Toys & Collectibles:

Mattel’s Monster High Catrine DeMew doll!

Elizabeth:

We are fans of Mattel’s Monster High purroduct line of the posable fashion dolls, accessories, other toys, and the books and the animations! The characters are the teen student children of the creatures such as the vampire, mummy, werecat, werewolf, yeti, sea monster, phantom, Frankenstein & others! We have purreviously reviewed several of Monster High items such as the cartoon, the Clawdeen wolfgirl doll & plushy, the build -a- doll assortment, and the Toralei, Meowlody & Purrsephone werecat dolls, so we were very delighted to get the recent doll of Catrine DeMew the artistic were cat girl! Catrine is part of the Scaris: City of Frights subset of the purroduct line, with the purremise that the girls have traveled to the city of Scaris for the fashion design compurrtition!

This far the group also  sepurrately includes Clawdeen Wolf, Skelita Calaveras, Rochelle Goyle, Jinafire Long & Frankie Stein, in the cute clothes with the luggage! Catrine is 17 with the Blue eyes, ivory White skin & waves of Pink & Purple hair, the lovely neko ear pinna and the tail! She is made of the plastic with the fiber hair & fabric garment, with the cardboard art & plastic purrse & shoes. From the soles of her 1/4″ heels to the tips of her ears she is 11″ tall with the slender curved 7″ tail! The points of the articulation are the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees!  She wears the short-sleeved mini dress with the ascot, Pink & Purple pouch belt & high heels, the Black sunglasses and the fingerless gloves! She has the cute purrse the paintings and the sketchbook!

She is the very organized, purrfectionist artist, and likes to draw the figures! She and her adustable Black plastic display stand are packaged in the cardboard box with the clear plastic window, and the backdrop painting of the Scarisian street scene.Catrine is splendidly detailed (but not de-tailed) from the cheeky beauty mark, Pink eye shadow & cute kitty nose, to her inny belly button, the art supples in the pouch and the widdle rosettes & bows on her shows! The clothes are all removable for the wardrobe changes with numerous other outfits sold sepurrately. Also included with the doll is her 4″x5″ sketch book containing the 8 pages of purretty color portraits & cityscapes! I am very pleased with the doll and I will give her the “A” as in artiste! Oh, to be in Scaris in the Spurring, mew la la, nya!

Bun:

Nyssy:

Especially this season as it is still Winter and some regions on the mainland are sadly suffering from the blizzards.

McDonalds Hello Kitty Happy Meal Toys!

Nyssy:

Arigato! The combination of the yummy food and the fun toy is always the treat, such as the McDonalds Happy Meal! This is not the first tim we have discussed those, for we have previously reviewed the Barbie Mermaid’s Tale, James Cameron’s Avatar, and the review of the prior Hello Kitty Happy Meal toys in the January 2012 Mew! The series of the McD’s toys include Hasbro’s Transformers Prime and Sanrio’s Hello Kitty for the Happy Meal choice! There are six cute widdle plastic figurines of Hello Kitty’s Miss Kitty White in this series tall and are recommended for ages 3+! There is the one toy per meal, but the toys can be purrchased separately! The 1st figure of the series is the Kitty Loves Dancing, wearing the leotard and the head band to match her bow as she pirouette spin atop the roller platform!

The 2nd figure is Kitty in the Yellow smock, & purple bow, holding the paint palate in her left hand & brush in her moving right hand as she winks at us! 3rd Kitty wears the Pink outfit trimmed in Yellow, with the Green visor, Blue bow to match the racket, and moving arms for the serve! 4th Kitty wears the glasses , Blue dress & bow to read her book, with her raising arms & turning head, and 5th Kitty wears the chef hat & mittens, with the fruity scent strip to pull from the baked treat! The springy bobbly 6th figure of Kitty wears the Yellow-Orange dress & Pink bow, to sway while holding the Yellow guitar! Most of them are 3″ tall, but dancing Kitty is 4″ including the roller platform! I have the good spot to display them on my shelf! OK I am done and now here is Lani to continue the toy talk with her review of the

Hasbro’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation Lady Jaye action figure!

Kianalani:

Hai! Lady Jaye is one of the brilliant heroines of the G.I. Joe team who defends the world against the evil Cobra group! She has appeared in the various G.I. Joe comic books and cartoons, and she is portrayed by actress Adrianne Palicki in the forthcoming live-action G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie! I particularly liked the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon’s episode in which she, Scarlet & Cover Girl rescued the boys from Cobra’s Cold Slither band! She is the elite soldier of the supurrb cover operations, intelligence, linguistics, the disguises, weapons & vehicles proficiencies! Her boyfriend Flint, is another member of the team! This latest action figure of her from Hasbro is 4″ tall, so I guess that is approximately 1/17th scale!

She is packaged in the clear plastic shell on the hanger card, with quite a few weapons accessories, but due to the small parts she is intended for ages 4+!  It is the beautifully sculpted, painted, articulated & accessorized lithe figure! She has the earthy-toned digi – camouflage outfit with the tan vest & Brown boots to match her dark hair of the pony-tailed style, and the slight smile as she glares at the situation! The points of the articulation are her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees & ankles, so she is very posable, and well-balanced to stand up unassisted in certain poses, but the display stand is not included. Both of her hands are in the gesture to grip the weapons, with the index fingers in the trigger-pull positions!

There is nice detail from the straps of the vest and her fingerless gloves, to the folds of the tucked pants and the laces of the boots! Her gear includes the machete, 2 combat knives, 2 assault rifles, 2 sub machine pistols, the spear gun, the rocket launcher, the back pack, and the snap-on pack with the 4 removable rockets, but she does not have holsters or scabbards, so you might want to store some of those items in the package until she needs them! I am very pleased with this G.I. Joe: Retaliation Lady Jaye figure, and I will display her on the shelf beside the older G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Lady Jaye figure! I would say “Yo Joe!” but in this case it is “Yay Jaye!” I am all done, but for more of the toys here is Dessy to tell us about the

Funko’s Game of Thrones Daenerys Targaryen figure!

Lourdessaluorno:

Hai! Funko makes the widdle bobble heads & vinyl statues of the licensed famous movie, TV, music & comics characters such as The Beatles, KISS, Star Trek, Star Wars, The Hobbit, The Muppets, and The Walking Dead! We have purrevious reviewed Funko’s Dark Knight Rises Catwoman and KISS Hello Kitty Vinyl Figures, so we were pleased to see the figure of Daenerys or just Dany for short! She is one of our favoritest characters from George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones epic fantasy tale, and she is so beautifully portrayed by Emily Clarke in HBO’s TV series adaptation of the books! Dany is the daughter of King Targaryen, she became the Khalessi or Queen of the Dothroki when she married Khal Dorgo, and has her very own dragon!

The vinyl Game of Thrones figures in this product line are of the amusing “supurr-deformed” style, with the head much disproportionately larger than the rest of the body! Thus far the line also includes the figures of Tyrion, Ned, Khal, The Hound and the White Walker! The Dany figure is about 3.5″ tall, wearing the lovely bare-midriff skirt outfit of the Green hues, accessorized with the Brown boots and the fingerless gloves! Her Flaxen Blond hair is pulled into the braided style, and the cute widdle Red – winged dragon is purrched upon her right arm like a Falcon! It is the nicely sculpted & painted cute figure, and I hope they might consider making a figure of peppy Arya Stark too! Now I will go from the throne game to the motor sport to discuss the

NASCAR Authentics 1:64 toy Danica Patrick #10 car!

Lourdessaluorno:

As mermaids, we do not get to the auto race tracks often, but we like to watch the sports and we have favorite drivers such as Danica Patrick http://www.danicaracing.com! Not only is the excellent motorist and pioneering woman in the sport, but she also very entertaining in those TV commercials for her sponsor Go Daddy! Her car started the Daytona 500 at the Pole Position, and came in 8th place in the race! BANZAI!!! Therefore, we were pleased to purrchase this widdle Spinmaster NASCAR Authentics toy replica of her #10 car, the 2011 Chevy Impala that she drives for Stewart Hass Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Series! This 1:64 scale toy car is about 3 1/4″ long, packaged in the clear plastic clamshell upon the card!

The card has the beautiful widdle photo of Danica in her Green fire suit! The suit matches the Green car, which has the large bold Orange #10 on the roof & doors! The car is highly detailed with all the various sponsors’ livery. especially the Go Daddy logos but also tinier logos for about 20 other sponsors! The Black tires spin, with the Goodyear Eagle logos! The car’s interior undercarriage are molded in the Grey color, with the interior detail of the steering wheel, gear, seats and the roll cage! It will look nice displayed beside the toys of her prior #7 cars! For the next toy review we will go from the beautiful lady of the race track to the beautiful lady of the stars in Petra”s review of Sterling Inovation’s

Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Paper Model!

Petra:

Arigato, nya! We love Star Trek and the fun kits  to build and the papurr crafts to , so I was eager to get started on this Star Trek Build The U.S.S. Enterprise papurr model kit made by Sterling Innovation with the lights and the bit of mewsic, nya! It is the papurr craft kit designed by Cladio Dias as the vision of the U.S.S. Enterpurrise from the original TV series, nya! On the box it says the model is a foot long, but it iseems closer to a foot and a half long, nya! Since that ship is supposedly appurroximately 947 feet long prior to the movie refit, I will estimate the model is appurroximately of 1 / 632 scale, nya! The saucer-shaped purrimary hull is approximately 7.75″ in diameter, and the two cylindrical warp engine nacelle are about 9.5″ long, nya!

Mike said that the kit reminds him a bit of the Star Trek – The Motion Picture Enterpurrise papurr kits, nya! Of course he will find the reason to mention his favoritest movie, heehee, nya! The kit is in the full color with the very light Gray hull color, with the Orangey warp domes, the Blue impulse engine vents, and the metallic Red stripes, nya! It is purretty detailed down to the various markings, ports and the beacons, and the model actually includes the 3 widdle Red LED lights & wiring for her illuminations, when purrched upon the pylon of the 10″ long Dark Grey starfleet insignia shaped base, nya! The audio module includes the small Ag10 batteries, to play the 14 seconds of the original Star Trek TV series theme mewsic when the button is purressed, nya!

A tiny Philips head screwdriver is not included but would be needed to replace the batteries, nya The parts are easy to punch out and to assemble if you are patient & careful, and refer to the the very easy – to – follow instruction booklet, nya! Some tools are needed such as the glue, the scissors, the string & the brush, and be purrpared to patiently, purrecisely, carefully fold, bend cut & glue quite a few of the over 100 papurr parts, nya! Also included in the nice box nicely designed by Eric Liu & Gabe Stomberg is the bonus widdle 48 page full color book by Scott Tipton, with the photos and notes purrtaining to some of the different starship Enterpurrises, nya! It is the handsome papurr model when it is all assembled, nya! That will conclude the toy portion, but here is Becca to begin our

Cinema, TV & DVD Reviews with her review

of The Six Million Dollar Man Season 3 DVD, nya!

Becca:

Arigato! We were so happy when The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman TV series began to be released here on DVD! They were on the the wish list for many years! Based upon the 1972 science fiction novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, The Six Million Dollar Man TV movies & series started in 1973 and starred Lee Majors as Colonel Steve Austin, the astronaut & test pilot who survived the crash thanks to the opurration purrformed by scientific genius Dr. Rudy Wells who is purrtrayed by two different actors, Alan Oppenheimer & Martin E Brooks. The purrocedure replaced Steve’s legs, an arm & eye with the bionic parts which give him the supurr powers as a secret government agent working for Director Oscar Goldman of the O.S.I, who is purrtrayed by Richard Anderson!

Gosh, that was 40 years ago! In the 2nd season, Steve’s girlfriend Jaime Summers got the supurr bionic legs, arm & ear after the purrachute accident. She was purrtrayed by Lindsay Wagner, and starred in her own Bionic Woman spin-off TV series in 1976! Steve’s show lasted 5 seasons and Jaime’s show lasted 3, and in her 3rd season which migrated from ABC to NBC she got Max the bionic dog! The shows were the big hit, with the toys, publications & other merchandise! Almost a decade later, Jaime & Steve returned in the 3 reunion movies and in 2007 there was the short-lived remake of The Bionic Woman. We reviewed the Bionic Woman DVD sets in Apurril 2011, June 2011 & November 2011, and the first 2 Six Million Dollar Man DVD sets in March 2011 & August 2012!

Nyow I am pleased to review The Six Million Dollar Man Season 3, Region 1 NTSC Standard DVD set! The 3rd season is purrticularly significant due to the return of Jaime and the introduction of the alien android Bigfoot / Sasquatch! This 6 disk set is compurrised of the unrated, uncut 21 epurrsodes from 1975-1976 amounting to about 17.5 hours, plus the 2 part Bionic Woman purremier, to total of over 19 hours, purrsented in the full frame format with the screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in English language digital 2.0 audio, and the optional English SDH (Subtitled for those who are Deaf or Hearing impaired) subtitles, which are the very legible White sans serif font with the fine Black outline. In the outer plastic case are the hinged trays that secure the easily removed disks!

There is no booklet included, but the inside of the insert has the handy epurrsode list for each disk! Disk 1 includes “The Return of the Bionic Woman” Parts 1 & 2″, with Richard Lenz as Dr. Wells’s semi-recurring assistant Dr. Michael Marchetti. Jaime wears the purretty maillot at the pool! “The Price of Liberty” stars Chuck Connors as the safe cracker who helps Steve retrieve the stolen Liberty Bell, and “The Song and Dance Spy” has Sonny Bono, Bruce Glover, and Jayne Kennedy! The back up singers Linda, Louise & Laura have the cute outfits! Disk 2 starts off with the expurrdition into the Japanese forest in search of “The Wolf Boy” who purrtrayed by Buddy Foster! He does not have the wolf ears or the tail, but he does have the feral canine dispurrsition!

John Fujioka returns in that tale as Kuroda, who starred as “The Last Kamikaze” in season 2! This is followed by “The Deadly Test” with Tim O’Connor & Erik Estrada at the Air Force Base; then “Target in the Sky” with Barbara Rhodes & Denny Miller at the timber company; and to top off Disk 2 is “One of our Running Backs is Missing” with Pamela & Larry Csonka, Dick Butkus & Carl Weathers involved in the football capurr! I purrticularly liked the amewsing bionic bowling scene!  Disk 3 starts with the return of Monte Markham as Barney Hiller who is “The Bionic Criminal”! He starred as Steve’s rival “The Seven Million Dollar Man” in season 2! This is followed by “The Blue Flash” which has the optional audio commentary by director Cliff Bole!

After that is “The White Lightning War” with Katherine Helmond as the general store owner in a small Georgia town; which is followed by the tale of the defectors in “Divided Loyalty”! Disk 4 starts off with Lou Gossett as secret agent “Clark Templeton O’Flaherity”, but he might be the double-agent! Lovely Aziza Johari also appurrs in that epurrsode! After that, Jennifer Darling stars as Oscar’s purrky semi-recurring secretary Peggy Callahan in “The Winning Smile”! Topping off Disk 4 are The Bionic Woman’s purremier epurrsodes of “Welcome Home, Jaime” Parts 1 & 2! This launches Jaime’s own series! Lee Majors, Richard Anderson, Martin E. Brooks & Richard Lenz co-star, along with Martha Scott & Ford Rainy as Steve’s mom Helen & stepfather Jim, who are also Jaime’s legal guardians!

“The Return of the Bionic Woman” Parts 1 & 2″, and “Welcome Home, Jaime” Parts 1 & 2 are also included in The Bionic Woman Season 1 DVD set!  Disk 5 starts with the return of Robbie Lee as Audrey the psychic agent to help Steve catch the crooks in “Hocu-Pocus”! She was introduced in the 2nd season epurrsode of “ESP Spy”! Nextly are “The Secret of Bigfoot” Parts 1 & 2″, starring wrestler Andre the Giant as Sasquatch, who works for the alien scientists from their secret base in the Northern California forest! Stefanie Powers, Charles Cyphers, & Severn Darden purrtray the other aliens, and Lindsay has the brief cameo! These epurrsodes have the optional audio commentary track by writer / purrducer Ken Johnson! You know, Andre used to live here in North Carolina!

Ted Cassidy purrtrayed Sasquatch in some of the later tales! After that is “The Golden Pharaoh”, co-starring Farrah-Fawcett Majors in one of her several appurrances in the series! Disk 6 contains the final 3 epurrsodes of the 3rd season; “Love Song for Tanya” with Jaime and starring Olympic gymnast Cathy Rigby as the Russian gymnast who Steve is assigned to chapurrone; “The Bionic Badge” in which Steve goes undercover as a uniformed cop, and “Big Brother” with Jamime, as Steve mentors an under-purrivileged kid! I will give this collection the grade of the “A” as in Austin, and I hope that Seasons 4, 5 and the reunion movies will be released too! Speaking of the late 1970’s spy drama, there is the recent Oscar-winning movie based upon the true incident, so here is Mie-sensei to tell us about the

Argo DVD!

Mielikki:

Arigato! Argo is the totally fun, tense, captivating tale starring, directed & produced by Ben Affleck, based upon the accounts of the hostage incident in Iran of 1979. The story focuses on the US & Canadian Governments’  secret attempt to hide & rescue six employees of the US Embassy in Tehran, after it is stormed by an angry crowd of protesters amidst the revolution. Affleck portrays CIA agent Tony Mendez, who recruits filmmakers from Hollywood to begin pre-production on an imaginary science fiction movie titled Argo to be filmed in Iran, where hopefully the six “house guests” can disguise as the film crew and escape from the country! The movie also stars John Goodam as FX make up artist John Chambers, Alan Arkin as the film producer, and Bryan Cranston as Agent O’Donnell!

Among its many awards were the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay! The 2 hour, R Rated movie was recently released in the various home media editions including the single –  disk, R1 NTSC standard DVD which I’m reviewing today! It is presented in the letterboxed widescreen format in English, French & Spanish Dolby 5.1 Surround sound, with optional bold White subtitles in those languages. Prior to the very simple, intuitive main menu screen are the front-loaded Tobacco PSA and ads for The Hobbit, Cloud Atlas, Gangster Squad, and Beautiful Creatures. It is a very no-frills package, and the only extras included are the nearly 17 minute featurette with remembrances of the real incident, and the instructions to get the bonus UV digital copy of the movie.

So like, the featurette includes recollections of the crisis by Tony Mendez, President Jimmy Carter, Ambassador Ken Taylor, and “house guests” Kathy Stafford, Cara Lijek, Mark Lijek, Lee Schatz & Bob Anders! It is a fascinating, brief first hand account, but I wish it was a much longer documentary and interviews. I also wish there were other special features, maybe such as commentary, a documentary of the film, and image galleries, especially a gallery of Jack Kirby’s Argo storyboards… but there are none of those on the disk. The DVD sparse in the special features, especially comapared to the Blu-Ray edition, but I thought the movie itself was great, and I will give it an “A” As in Argo , fur shur! For our next DVD dosage of international conflict & espionage, here is Myayr to tell us about the

Resident Evil: Damnation DVD!

Mary Nyan:

Hai! We have reviewed a number of the Resident Evil movies & DVDs, most recently the Resident Evil: Retribution DVD in the October 2012 Mew! For those who came in late, the Resident Evil is the action / horror video game series by Capcom, of which there have been based the 5 live-action theatrical movies and the 2 direct-to-DVD CG animated movies! Damnation is the 2nd of the animated movies, and the sequel to the animated Degeneration movie! It is about 100 minutes long and full of the  R-Rated bloody violence, as secret agent Leon Kennedy investigates the weaponized monsters in an Eastern European country amidst a revolution, which agent Ada Wong also investigates! Other major characters include the country’s President Svetlana Belikova, rebels JD and Buddy!

There are plenty of the monsters lurking about, such as the Las Plagas Virius, Magini zombies, Lickers, Gonadas, the giant – sized Tyrant  and the Supurr Tyrant types! The CG animated movie uses the motion-capture technique, which I think is the good technique by the artists for the live-action movie FX to help to create characters such as Ney’tiri, Gollum, Kong or the Hulk, but I do not tend to care for it as an “animated movie” technique.  However, I think this movie surpassed Degeneration in the complexity & sophistication, with the very realistic characters, scenery, and FX! There is much combat, gore, sneaky espionage, the fights in the street, palace, catacombs, and the secret facility, including the great catfight scene between Ada & Svetlana, and the great chemistry between Leon and Buddy!

There were dashes of humorous banter in the dialogue, but no silly buffoonery! I did not care for the style such as the slow motion & speed ramping, or some of the motion that seemed to leer into the camera like a 3D movie, but I think the movie had the good pace which did not feel too rushed or too short or of too many cuts! I also like the mewsic score and the sound design. The voice cast includes Matthew Mercer as Leon, Dave Whittenberg as Buddy, Wendee Lee as Svetlana, and Courtney Taylor as Ada! Ada wears the gorgeous sexy dress! ! For the mo-cap, Kevin Dorman purrtrayed Leon, David Earnest purrtrayed Buddy, Jolene Anderson purrtrayed Ada, Melinda Lee purrtrayed Svetlana, and Val Tasso purrovided the voice & mo-cap for JD who is another character I liked!

The movie was purroduced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, written by Shotaro Suga, directed by Makoto Kamiya, with the CG animation by Digital Frontier directed by Atsushi Doi, and the end credits song is sung by Anna Tsuchiya! The movie is purresented in the anamorphic widescreen with the 1.78:1 aspect ratio on the Region One / NTSC, single disk standard DVD, with the language audio choices of English, French, Spanish, Thai & Portuguese; with the optional subtitle choices of English, English SDH, French, Spanish Portuguese, Thai, Korean & Chinese! The subtitles are of the Yellow bold sans serif font with the fine Black outline. Purrior to the main menu are the ads & purreview trailers, which are also in the menu’s purreviews section.

The special features include the 7 minute briefing about the monsters, the 6 minute gag reel, and the 30 minute documentary on the making of the movie. It is fascinating & informative with the comments by many of the crew, with the look at the designs, charts, storyboards, animation, scenery images, rehearsals, the mo-cap & the voice recordings! Resident Evil: Damnation has the mysterious ambience, plenty of action, monsters & more of Leon & Ada to add to the Resident Evil mythology! Oh I wish they could make a movie that has Alice, Becky, Jill, Rain, Ada, Claire, Chris, Luthor, Leon & Wesker all together in it! For our next review of the CG animated monsters here is Bun to review the

Monster High Double Feature: Friday Night Frights / Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love? DVD!

Bun:

Hai! As y’all might have guessed from Lizzy’s toy review, we are fond of Monster High! I like the very cute & comedic supernatural premise of the Monster High, which is the very huge place of the amusing macabreness for the many students of the various monster types! It is amazing how many Monster High characters there are and much merchandise there is! For our comments about their Escape from Skull Shores animated movie, please see the May 2012 Mew, and now I would like to say the few words about the Friday Night Frights / Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love? Double Feature DVD! Both of these CG animated movies are 46 minutes apiece to total 92 minutes of the wacky peppy supernatural fun from Mattel Entertainment! They are presented in the 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen format on the single disk R1 NTSC standard DVD, in the the English, French & Spanish 5.1 digital sound with the optional English SDH, French & Spanish subtitles!

There was a products brochure in the case, and the ads on the DVD for the Ghouls Rule DVD and the Skulltimate Roller maze video game, but there are no special features, but that is OK because the two tales are so much fun! In Friday Night Frights the girls put on their skates to compete for the school in the roller derby maze full of the obstacles, hazards, and the cheaters!  t also has the good empowering message about the gender roles & traditions that might not be fair or smart!  Then in Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?, the plans are made for the cute vamp girl’s sweet 1600 party amidst the valentine season, but there is much romantic comedy of the errors with the love spells, mismatched couples, mischief & the rivals! I think the character designs, animation & the voices are great!

I like the characters such as Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, her sister Howleen, Frankie Stein, Lagoona Blue, Cleo de Nile, Ghoulia Yelps, Abby Bominable, Operetta, Spectra Vondergeist, Rochelle Ghoul, Robecca Steam, Venus McFlytrap Cupid and catgirls Toralei Stripe, Purrsephone & Meowlody, but they are the mischievous kitties! It is not just the girl ghouls show as there are the guys of Clawd, Manny, Heath, Jekyll, Gill, Deuce, Rocco, Mr, Rotter, Mr. Hackington, Val, and the recurring minor characters adding to the constantly humorous situations! I thought it was well written, directed. animated & edited with the good pacing and the good sound FX and the music too, so I was very pleased with the double feature! That is all of our DVD reviews for this mew, so now it is time to discuss the

2013 Puppy Bowl, Supurr Bowl & TV Commercials!

Melanakeami:

February 3rd was the big day for the televised sports, between the UNC vs Duke women’s basketball game, the Puppy Bowl on the Animal Planet channel, and the NFL’s Supurr Bowl with the many interesting TV commercials! We’re not necessarily endorsing any of the advertised purroducts or services, but just discussing the commercials that were purretty, poignant or entertaining!

Lourdessaluorno:

UNC vs. Duke is the epic rivalry! Hmm I wonder if there are rivals in the Puppy Bowl!

Becca:

There were great plays for the chew toys!

Ilyana:

The Puppy Bowl seems to have changed a lot, with the complexity and appurrances by other stars of Animal Planet shows as the spectators!

Petra:

Hai some of the chaps from Tanked were there. That show has lots of yummy fish, nya!

Nyssy:

It was also the very thrilling but very different Super Bowl too, with the long power outage in the 3rd quarter!

Kianalani:

How far was Mike from that Super Dome when he was in New Orleans last summer for the GI Joe Con?

Mike:

Ah, I’m not sure how many city blocks it was, but we drove right by it a couple of times! It’s very impressive!

Mielikki:

Beyonce’s half time concert show was very impressive too, with her great voice, beautiful outfits, the dancers, mewsicians, the lights and special FX!

Elizabeth:

Speaking of the special FX I liked the Kia Sorento Planet Babylandia commercial and my favorite was the Kia Forte Car Show commercial with the supurr gynoids!

Bun:

Purrhaps Becca could be the TV commercials too!

Becca:

That is the kind thought but I just hope those gynoids have the good careers with lots of good roles! There were definitely lots of great looking FX in the ads for the new Star Trek, Iron Man, and Oz movie!

Mary Nyan:

Don’t forget the zombies in the Time Warner Cable “Walking Dead” commercial and in the preview for the World War Z movie starring Brad Pitt!

Lourdessaluorno:

The World War Z  novel was such a fascinating book so I am curious about the movie! Oh how about the commercials for The Lone Ranger movie starring Johnny Depp!

Ne’ellakaliomi:

Those movies look like they have the great actors! We were glad to see our favorite driver Danika Patrick in another Go Daddy commercial too!

Melanakeami:

The Tide commercial with the Montana Stain and the Toyota Tundra commercial with the space shuttle were nice too!

Mielikki:

The astronauts & space ships seemed to be the popular topic, and the yummy looking fish too, in the Axe Apollo ad and the Beck’s Sapphire ad!

Nyssy:

The Budweiser ad with the newborn Clydesdale was very charming and touching!

Kianalani:

As soon as we saw that we knew that Tara-chan would want the horse, hee hee!

Ilyana:

She does love to study and care for the animals! I think she might aspire to become the zoologist or the veterinarian!

Mike:

I think the most poignant spots during the bowl were for the Wounded Warrior Project, and Dodge’s God Created Farmers ad!

Bun:

It is seconded! What is next?

Elizabeth:

Nyow it is time for the monthly Lightning Round, and the topic is our
