Keiko:

Mielikki:

(the faerie whose iridescent wings shimmer from the Magnolia criss-cross halter neck bikini) Mellow Greetings! So like, Jeannie and Ilyana are away at a wreck dive, but have the rest of us been up to?

Mary Nyan:

As mewsual I have been training the appurrentice mikos at the shrine, sewing costumes for the cosplayers, and soon it will be the time to ponder our costumes for this year’s Halloween Trick ‘R Eat Purrowl! We should nominate the ideas for our group cosplay soon! Otherwise I have been teaching the Hula classes, and I have seen Jenjen, Vonny and Trini-chan at the Purrforming Arts Center!

Trini-chan:

Hai, I have been surfing, helping at the mewseum, and taking Jenjen’s Belly Dance Summer semester at the Purrforming Arts Center! I have been practicing my hip shimmy, the tummy undulation and the tail technique! Soon it will be the Fall semester! We are so fortunate to have Vonny’s drumming circle there for the rhythm!

Yvonne:

We are purroud to purrvide the purrcussion, nya! Otherwise I have been busy with the boat and the charters’ taut lines Blue Fish, Croakers, Flounders, Groupurrs, Mullets, Red Drums, Snappurrs, Spanish Mackerels,  and the Tunas, so it is good to have Tara-chan & Trini-chan’s help on the deck, nya! Tara-chan has snapped more purretty pics too, nya!

Tara-chan:

Hai I took the photos of the Red Tail Hawk, the Ruby Throat Hummingbird, the Bent – Line Dart Moth, the Tiger Swallowtail, the Sulphur, and the Garden Spider, nya! She has woven the intricate web to catch her suppurr, nya! Otherwise I have been caring for the kitties, helping onee-chan with the charters, volunteering at the mewseum, and I added another Choc Cat plushy to my collection, nya!

Bun:

They are the industrious volunteers! Let’s see… other than curating the exhibits, I have been tending to the Daisies, Calla Lilies, the Roses and the Crape Mytles of the garden, and in the beach volleyball matches, Petra and I have served the defeats to the competition, like the carrot cakes we serve in the mewseum cafe, heehee! I have brought some for tonight’s AfterMew luau too!

Petra:

They are the such delicious cakes with the creamy icing, nya! Of course, it is the time for the island’s Summer Art, Literature And Mewsic Inspurration (SALAMI) Purroject which Bun and I have been coordinating with Kitrina & Katherine at the Purrforming Arts Center, Mielikki, Wyrdina & Alaua’mina at the Theatre, Tsuruku & Kianalani at Sheila May’s, and with Keiko & Yuriko at the Library, nya!

Yuriko:

The library has been bustling with the cultural purrsuits, nya! For the Summer purroject I have been reading the 1982 Wolverine mini-series, Leave it to Chance, Jennie Breeden’s The Devil’s Panties http://thedevilspanties.com, and I have been listening to Marvin Gaye’s What’s Goin’ On?, Carole King’s Tapestry, Joan Baez’s Diamonds and Rust, and the Jackie Brown movie soundtrack, nya!

Keiko:

Oh oh, Jackie Brown’s Pam Grier was not only born here in North Carolina, but she purrtrayed Ayesa the catgirl in the 1972 horror movie The Twillight People, nya! I have been listening to The Dave Brubreck Quartet’s Time Out, The Allman Brothers’ Brothers and Sisters, Lucia Hwong’s House of Sleeping Beauties, Megumi Hayashibara’s Bertemu, and Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, nya!

Elizabeth:

Oh we liked the library’s nice appurreciative display to author Richard Matheson, so I have read his boks Somewhere in Time, Now You See It, What Dreams May Come, and The Shores of Space! When Becca and I have not been busy at the spa, the garden or at the hot salsa dance, I have been at the shrine and running with the Purrkour Club!

Becca:

In addition to the spa, the nekos, the gardening, the dancing, and the golf, for the Summer purroject I have watched the Bruce Lee movies, and since Syd Mead’s birthday was last month, I have been reading several of his beautiful design books! We are also looking forward to the Poppy Purrade, Petra & Bun’s next beach volleyball match, and Nya-sensei’s martial arts tournyament!

Bun & Petra:

BANZAI!!! (Petra adds the meow)

Nyanko:

Arigato! Speaking of the volleyball, Kerri Walsh Jennings is among the inspurrational athletes upon the 8 covers of ESPN Magazine’s annual Body issue, and so is NHRA Funny Car driver Courtney Force, which is the irony because last month we mentioned her cover of RC Driver #116! Aside from the dojo, I have been reading, swimming and helping sis and the nekos at the magick shop!

Nyoka:

Hai there were the many purrchases at the shop during the Solstice, nya! There is much magick in my Summertime reading of Elizabeth Montgomery’s biography, Barbara Eden’s autobiography, J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan as illustrated by Charles Vess, and The Dream Hunters graphic novel by Neil Gamin, P. Craig Russell, Lovern Kindzierski, Sheldon Drzka & Todd Klein! Howboutchoo, Mie-sensei?

Mielikki:

It has been fun to help coordinate the cultural events, when I haven’t been busy at the theatre or golf course, and on August 3rd I flew over to the delightful Durham Performing Arts Center on the mainland – where we saw Spamalot last year- to see the totally awesome Sheryl Crow concert! She wore the sleeveless White top, the Amaranth capri pants with the floral embroidery, Beige high heels, and played various guitars as she beautifully sang with her totally brilliant band! It was a very enthused audience, the DPAC staff were so very cordial, and after the encores there just happened to be festive fireworks from the Durham Bulls’ stadium next door! So, what has Mike been up to since our prior Mew?

Mike:

Ah, since last time I was cat sitting, visited several friends, helped move some furniture, went to a toy show, and tried to get more art & writing done! I’ve been enjoying the various comic books, Sharon Williams’s serialized tale of Okami No Hime http://rose74.deviantart.com which was up to Chapter 15 by the end of July; and David A. Mack’s Star Trek The Next Generation novel The Body Electric, which by the way refers to the events of my favorite movie! Ah well, speaking of favorite movies, since the past few months’ Lightning Round topics have pertained to our favorite films of 2003, 1993, 1983 and 1973, this month’s Lightning Round topic is

Our Favorite Films of 1963! So, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?

The Ladies Of The Mew:

HAI! LIGHTNING ROUND GO, NYA!

Nyanko:

(tagged to go first) From Russia With Love! (tags her sister to go next)

Nyoka:

I would say either The Haunting or Jason and the Argonauts! (tail tags Yuriko)

Yuriko:

Beach Party, nya! Howboutchoo, Kei, nya? (tags Keiko)

Bun:

Hai I will second It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World! (tags Mary Nyan)

Mary Nyan:

Matango, Atragon, and Argonauts! (tags Mielikki)

Mielikki:

Mmm… The Haunting! (tags Trini-chan with the flit of the wing)

Trini-chan:

Heehee! It is the tough decision of either Beach Party or Donovan’s Reef! (tags Petra with the brush of her foxy White-tipped Red tail)

Petra:

Jason and the Argonauts, Sword in the Stone, and From Russia With Love, nya! Back to Mike, nya!

Mike:

I think my favorite film of 1963 is It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World… although I am rather fond of Robert Wise’s The Haunting! Y’know he directed–

Elizabeth:

(sigh) We know that he directed Star Trek – The Motion Picture!

Bun:

Mike cannot resist the temptation to mention his favorite movie!

Nyoka:

It is the continued purredilection!

Becca:

Hai, I thought he was gonna digress about it when he mentioned the Body Electric novel, heehee!

Mike:

Ah- I was not gonna ramble on about it… this time!

Mary Nyan:

Of course, the high purraise for Robert Wise and those other film makers is supurremely deserved!

Mielikki:

Fur Shur!

Tara-chan:

I want to see The Haunt– BLACK SWALLOWTAIL, NYA! (the distracted catgirl scampurrs after the butterfly)

Yvonne:

TARA-CHAN, NYA!

Trini-chan:

There she goes again, heehee!

Yuriko:

She can’t resist the nature photo oppurrtunity, nya!

Nyanko:

Well, that was another expedient Lightning Round!

Keiko:

So, what is the next portion of The Mew, nya?

Bun:

Now it is time to purrsent the mewest addition to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art,

the “Chibi Catgirl” by Rebecca Brogden!

Petra:

Hai! For those who are here for the first time, Galleries 1-5 are the exhibits of Mike’s illustrations & photographs, whilst Guest Galleries 1 and 2 display the images from other folks, with their purrmissions of course, nya! On the web site, the most recent pics are on the bottom row of the gallery’s widdle “thumbnail” portions, so just click on one of the ‘thumbnails’ to see the entire picture, nya! This month in Guest Gallery 2 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest2.html we are purroud to purresent an adorable image of the pretty “Chibi Catgirl” strolling on the beach, illustrated by Rebecca Brogden who was a special guest of the Mew in September 2009, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen her other lovely images of the catgirls, mermaids and faeries that grace our galleries, nya? Her media for this scene was Photoshop CS6 and an Intuos5 tablet, nya! To see more of Rebecca’s wonderful fantasy, flora and fauna art, please visit her site Rebecca Brogden Art http://www.rbrogdenart.com, nya!

Becca:

Rebecca has the very sensitive, intricate touch with the Photoshop and the tablet!

Elizabeth:

It is the mew expurrimental style for her, but I appurreciate the chibi purroportions!

Nyoka:

The darling nekomimi has the lovely large ear pinna to hear the serenity of the sea!

Nyanko:

Hai, and I am admiring the detail of the sheen and the strands of her short coiffure!

Yuriko:

It is the cute winking expurression, and eye color that shimmers like an emerald, nya!

Keiko:

She has the sweet dispurrsition, the petite fangs and the adorable freckles, nya!

Mary Nyan:

The off-shoulder, bare-midriff outfit with the matching footwear is the gorgeous ensemble!

Yvonne:

It is splendidly accessorized by the bell collar and the flower clasp! Kawaii, nya!

Trini-chan:

She has the supple tail of the contented seaside swish! Hurry up, Tara-chan!

Tara-chan:

Gomenasai, nya!

Mielikki:

It is all right and we hope to see the photographs, but what do you think of the art?

Tara-chan:

The colors, the shading, the highlights, and – and the fabric folds are so nice, nya!

Bun:

Hai, the sand, the waves, the trees, the clouds and the sky are so well rendered too!

Mike:

Thank you for introducing the beautiful new art by Rebecca!

Petra:

Dooitashimaste, nya! Nyow that Tara-chan is back, it is time to begin our

Comic Book Critiques & Manga Mewsings,

with her review of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #9, nya!

Tara-chan:

Arigato, nya! We love the pony cartoon, the toys, and the pony comic books from IDW have been among my favoritest for several months, nya! Oh gosh I can’t believe it has already been over the 3/4 year since IDW, started to publish the purrinted pony purriodicals, nya! Issue #9 is purriced $3.99 with the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by the bonus papurr doll of Big Mac and – and the 8 pages of the ads, nya! Big Mac is the older brother of Applejack and –  Apple Bloom, nya! There are the 3 mane variant covers plus about 7 other exclusive covers, nya! Cover A is by Andy Price who also drew the tale, nya! I have Cover B by Tony Fleecs, cover C is by Amy Mebberson, and – and the 10 other rarer retailer exclusive covers were purrduced for Hot Topic, Larry’s Comics, JetPack Comics, Comics World, Newbury Comics, Stockton Con, and – and the other cons, nya! Displayed on the inside covers are the small pics of the different cover art, nya!

The tale was written by Katie Cook, lettered by Neil Uyetake, colored by Heather Breckel, and edited by Bobby Curnow who all did the supurr great job, nya! This issue begins the all mew tale starring Big Mac, narrated by his internal monologue as he tries to repair the family gazebo on Sweet Apple Acres, nya! It is the lovely farm with the apple orchard, nya! Winona pup would rather the play time, but Mac has to go into Ponyville to purrchase more nails, which will be tricky due to the crowds of the town’s Summer Wrap – Up Festival, nya! He is put out, but it looks like the supurr fun event to me, nya! There are rides, games, shows, contests, mewsic, dancing, art, and the food venders, nya! Firstly to distract him from the mission are Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, who are the young filies known as the cutie mark crusaders, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen the adorable illustration of Apple Bloom by Scarlett Edwards in our mewseum. nya?

The crusaders have the fireworks mishap, and then Mac is asked to babysit Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake, but they are not the tame foals, nya! He is distracted by Trixie’s magic show, and – and another fireworks mishap which knocks down Fleetfoot of the Wonderbolts flying team, with potentially romantic repurrcussions, although she might have the concussion, nya! There are other wacky incidents involving Purrincess Luna, Zacora, clever purrodies, homages, visual  jokes, and – andthe  commentary by Spike as the barker with Angel bunny, nya! It is fun to try to identify all of the ponies, nya! There are 2 full-page pics, but I should not spoil more of the entertaining plot, nya! The papurr doll has 7 different yokes to wear, nya! This was another supurrb issue with the purrfect plot, pace, dialogue, humor, poses, gestures, expurressions, details and – and the spirit that faithful to the spirit of the animated TV series, nya! Nyow I would like to discuss

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Micro-Series #6, nya!

Tara-chan:

This companion series focuses upon the different pony purr issue; the purrevious ponies were Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie, and nyow it is Applejack’s turn, nya! Issue #6 is purriced $3.99 with the 22 page tale followed by the 10 pages of the mews and – and the ads. all sammiched betwixt the different covers, nya! There are the 3 mane covers plus the 5 other exclusive covers which are all so purretty, nya! It was the tough choice, but I have the purretty “patch quilt” cover A by Amy Mebberson, nya! I would like to have the pony quilt, nya! Cover B is by this issue’s artist & lyricist Brenda Hickey, and – and  the less common retailer incentive cover C is by Sabrina Alberghetti, nya! There are 6 other retailer exclusive covers which are available at certain stores such as Larry’s Comics, Newbury Comics, Double Midnight, and – and Jetpack Comics, nya!

The tale was lettered by Neil Uyetake, colored by Heather Breckel, written and –  and edited by Bobby Curnow, nya! It is such the great creative team and- and I think these pony comics have faithfully captured the look and – and the spirit of the pony show in the comics medium, nya! It is the joyful holiday time of Hearth’s Warming Eve when Applejack, her younger sister Apple Bloom, big brother McIntosh and – and Granny Smith busy on the farm, nya! Winona pup is there too, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen Scarlett Edward’s adorable painting of Apple Bloom in the mewseum, nya? They are making the yummy apple sauce, but the next morning they awaken to find that several of the apples have been stolen but replaced with the squashes! We get to see the flashback of Granny Smith’s younger days as she tells them of the legend of the cryptid Sass Squash, nya!

Applejack decides to capture the elusive creature, but none of the traps work, and – and thus Applejack is frustrated filly in the snow, nya! However, it is the very amewsing tale which includes the two- page spurread of the montage with Applejack’s Sass Squatch song, nya! I should not further spoil the fun plot, but I will add that it is full of the tasty treats which makes me crave the apple fritter, but I will try to wait until the Aftermew Luau, nya! This was another wonderfully charming, purretty fun issue and – and I will give both of the comics the high grade of the “A” as in the apples, nya! I am looking forward to the next issue which will star Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and – and Sweetie Belle who are the Cutie Mark Crusaders, nya! I am also eager to see the Equestria Girls movie, and – and there are cute fashion dolls of the Mane Six as the pony girls, nya! Nyow here is Keiko to tell us about

Princeless Book One: Save Yourself trade papurrback, nya!

Keiko:

Arigato, Tara-chan! Princeless is the fun, all-ages fantasy comic book about the girls who are fed up with the sexist & speciesist attitudes, nya! The main characters are Princess Adrienne who does not want to be the helpless princess to be rescued, so she escapes from the castle tower her mean King father put her in, nya! Her guardian dragon Sparky does not wish to be the sterotypical monster to be slain by the knight she she flies away with Adrienne, nya! Adrienne wants to be disguised and armored while she attempts to rescue her sisters from similar situations, so she meets Bedelia the blacksmith, who is also the victim of the gender roles, and the trio flies out of town to free the sisters, nya! Her brother Devin is not happy about the expectations upon him either, nya. Some of my favorite moments are Adrienne’s angry letter about her parents drugging her steak, Sparky content with the tummy full of Knight meat, Bedelia’s revelation, showroom of women’s armor, and the fire escape, nya!

It is such the charming, amewsing, peppy action-packed series with the great characters, dialogue and art, which has won the numerous awards and was nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award, nya! It is published by Action Lab and written by Jeremy Whitley who lives in North Carolina, nya! The first four issues compurrising Book One:Save Yourself have been repurrinted & square – bound collected into this cute petite trade papurrback, which has the 118 full color pages for the $14.95, nya! The art is by M. Goodwin, the lettering is by Jung-Ha Kim & Dave Dwonch, the additional Mr. Froggy short was drawn by D.E. Belton, and the bonus Skullkickers cross-over short is by Zeb & Goodwin, nya! The 5″ x 7 5/8″ size papurrback  is smaller than the original comic books’ size of 6 5/8″ x 10 1/8″, and it seemed like a bit of the full-breed pages were cropped off, but it also repurrints the 4 covers and includes the 8 pages of illustrations, so I am very happy to add this delightful book to the library, nya!

Princeless: Tales of the Family Ashe, nya!

Keiko:

Since the 4 issues of Book One began in 2011, there have been the 4 issues of Book Two which have also just been collected, 2 issues of Princeless: Short Stories for Warrior Women, the Molly Danger / Princeless 2013 Free Comic Book Day issue, and this lovely one-shot anthology issue, nya! It is purriced $3.99, written by Jeremy Whitley, lettered by Jules Rivera, and edited by Shawn Gabborin, with the 21 pages of the three tales plus the purretty two full – page pin – up pics by Cullen Gardepe & Autumn Crossman, the five pages of the ads & announcements, and the front cover art by Nilah Magruder, nya! The first tale of “The Princess’ New Clothes” was illustrated by Adriana Blake & colored by Ricardo Parades, and begins at Cafe Angelica where Roderick the poet, Bedelia & Adrienne listen to her sister Angelica’s dress – making scheme, nya! Angelica, who is one of the 7 siblings, and Roderick were both introduced in the Book Two story arc, nya!

Angelica is the beautiful sister sought by the many competing suitors at Camp Angelica, but she is also narcissistic, does not have the sewing purroficiency, and her conceited couture intentions purrove to be the painful expurrience of the mixed results, nya! After that is “The Merry Adventures of Prince Ashe, Episode 2: The Girl” illustrated by Jessi Sheron, nya! It continues the tale of the king’s younger days from Short Stories for Warrior Women #1, when he meets the mysterious damsel in the forest full of wolves, hostile elves, and his rival Valmar, nya! The third tale “Nightlight” was illustrated by Isabelle Melancon and stars the middle sister Angiose, who mopes alone in her swampland tower one spooky night until mysterious Raphael shows up, nya! He was first seen in the 4th issue of Book Two which occurs sometime later, nya! I should not reveal much more about that, but his was yet another delightful issue, nya! Nyow here is Myayr to tell us about

Red Sonja vol. 2 #1, nya!

Mary Nyan:

Arigato, Tara-chan! Red Sonja is the sexy, smart, tough  brave, highly skilled Green-eyed Redheaded she-devil of the Hyrkanian Steppes is our of my favoritest characters, who is known for her peerless purrowess in the combat, her great agility, her lovely hair that is as Red as the blood of her many slain enemies, her association with Conan the Barbarian, and her iconic scale – mail bikini in the sword & sorcery tales! She was worn the other outfits ranging from the mail shirt & shorts, the leather outfit, the plate armor & leather skirt ensemble, and the recent Blue Demon pelt in her Unchained mini-series which we enjoy, but in this series she is back in the bikini! She has been the daughter, the thief, the treasure hunter, the body guard, the mercenary warrior, the army General and Queen, and mewsually rides the Black horses! She has appurred in the novels & comic books by the various publishers across the decades, mostly recently in the comics published by Dynamite Entertainment!

Among the comics they publish are those featuring the fierce fantasy femme fatales such as Vampirella, Miss Fury, Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Jungle Girl and other dangerous damsels! I think the only live-action Sonjas I know of were Brigitte Nielsen in the 1985 movie, Angelica Bridges in the 1997 Conan TV series, and Wendy Pini in the 1978 Wizard & Red Sonja show at the conventions! There have been numerous others known for the Sonja cosplay such as Wendy Snow, Linda Berhle, Angelique Trouvere, Dianne Dekelb, Tireen, Lyuba-chan, Belle Chere, Kat Sheridan and Mandy Caruso to name the few! We think that Anna Trebunskaya of Dancing With the Stars would be the purrfect purrson to purrtray her if they ever made another Red Sonja movie … but I have stray – catted off of the topic! The 22 page tale of the $3.99 purriced 32 page issue was written by Gail Simone, drawn by Walter Geovanni, colored by Adriano Lucas, lettered by Simon Bowland & edited by Joseph Rybandt!

For the front cover art, there are 9 different illustrations, plus the 7 variations for the total of the 16 different front covers to chose from, but some  are much rarer than others! These include the mane cover by Nicola Scott,, the variant cover A by Amanda Connor who we got to meet at Heroes Con, the variant cover B by Fiona Staples, the cover C by Jenny Frison who we also met at the con, cover D by Colleen Doran, the exclusive subscription cover by Stephanie Buscema, the Mile High Comics store’s exclusive cover by Mariah Benes, the Midtown Comics store’s exclusive cover by Nei Ruffino and Phantom variant by Agnes Gabowski! The different versions of those include the Blood Red tinted version of the mane cover, the Black & white version and the the high-end Blood Red ultra – limited version of cover A, the Black & white version and the “virgin” (textless) version of the Nei Ruffino art, the Black & white version and the high-end Blood Red ultra – limited version of cover D!

Only a very few copies of the Red ultra – limited versions were purrinted! We are trying to determine if this mew series is the reboot, but the tale begins with the 5 page purrologue of how King Dimath of Patra and his army won the battle and freed the few survivors of the enemy’s dungeons, and one of them was Sonja! Then the tale jumps ahead into the future when she is the famous warrior, who slays the brigands who stupidly attack her one night!  Two feisty young fan girls Nias & Ayla arrive to help Sonja and ask her nicely to please ride back to Patra because nyow the King needs her help! She agrees because she owes him the debt, although she is not delighted to wear the ornate gown to the traditional state suppurr on the eve of the war! The enemy Zamoran army is on their way to attack the kingdom in less than the week, and Sonja is hired to train the despurrate citizens to fight! The next few days are like the boot camp, but the enemy is soon there with the surpurrise for Sonja!

I liked the writing & art and there are some impurressive large panels of the King’s victory, the prurrisoners in the dark macabre dungeon, Sonja trying to sleep off the hangover by the camp fire, leaping over the fire into the combat, the defeated brigand’s eye view of her standing above him, the arrival of Nias & Ayla, the dressing scene, the full page pic of her on reared horseback challenging the Zamorans! The tale is nicely narrated with Sonja’s mewsual grumbly internal dialogue to accent her purragmatic dispurrsition and her code of conduct! It was amewsing to see her in the lovely gown, and as the drill instructor to sergeant the troops in the training montage! There is a rather nice moment when she goes out of her way to grant the stark yet dignified mercy to the plague victim, Nias & Ayla are the peppy companions who I hope to see more of, and the cliffhanger leaves me raving the next issue! I will have another review later in the show, but nyow here is Mie-sensei to tell us about

Jim Balent’s Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #81

(warning: plot spoilers and boobies mentioned)

Mielikki:

Arigato! So like, Tarot is the occult fantasy adventure by Jim Balent, published by Broadsword Comics, and starring Tarot the sword maiden & warrior witch! It is the fun, thrilling & beautifully rendered series with the mix of serious & whimsical bits, but it is totally not for the widdle kitties, due to the ample nudity, sexuality, violence & language! Jim Balent is the creator, writer, artist, publisher & president of Broadsword, and his wife Holly is the vice purresident, colorist, letterer, purrduction purriestess & occasional cover model who also creates the delightful supernatural web comic School Bites! Tarot’s 81st issue was edited by Neil Morris, with colors flattened by Randi Leeann and the 32 pages which begin with the uninterrupted 22 page tale of “The Dark Spiral Part Seven: The Unseelie Court”!

The rest of the bimonthly $2.95 comic book are the 5 pages of the bonuses, the 5 pages of advertisements, and the choice of 3 variant covers! Previously in Tarot, she was captured, mesmerized & manipulated by the marauding Dark Spiral tribe of evil faeries, so her sister Raven Hex, their Mom, Tarot’s boyfriend Jon and the Fae associate Lord Thornwic have searched for her! I am sad to say that as with many folk, there are good and bad faeries too, and that Dark Spiral tribe are the seriously wicked warmongers, fur shur! Now they have found her at the faeries’ camp, but Raven, Mom & Jon  need rescuing too, when Thornwic betrays them! Much magickal combat ensues with bloody melee to the max, but several evil heads will roll as the injured heroes will not down without the fierce fight!

I like the exotic character designs, such as Tarot’s elaborate Black & Gold costume, horned mask & armor, Raven Hex’s intricate spiral of the dark tattoos contrasting upon her pale skin, Thormwic’s Green coat with the leafy accents & mask, and the lavish detail of the lithe faeries’ wings, markings & ornamentations! The use of the color and light is like so richly lush, and conveys the ethereal ambience, down to the minute details such as the sheen of the Witch Mother’s Red hair, the luster of Raven Hex’s Black lips, the glint of Jon’s spiked skeleton costume, the gleam of the wicked faerie fangs, and the moonlit texture of the carved stone court! There is a diverse pallet of the fonts, colors & attributes for the dialogue text, and several bustling large panels including the impressive 4 full-page pics!

Every bit of the comic book’s space is nicely maximized, with the credits and cute photos of Holly & Jim on the inside front cover, and the next issue’s preview on the outside back cover! The bonuses include more photos of Holly & Jim’s Disney World / Star Wars weekend, the photo of this issue’s Broadsword Girl Riss who is flanked by the images of Mindy Sommers’ lovely cards, Tonya Kay’s Summer Solstice musings, Raven Grimassi’s Spell of the Black Rose, and the advertisements for the various sexy Tarot and cute School Bites items! I believe that in January we shined the spotlight upon School Bite’s Fujiko, the vampire catgirl, who is like so much cuter and genkier than the vampires that Buffy tends to slay, and on that note I will turn The Mew over to Lizzy, who wishes to tell us about

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Nine #23!

Elizabeth:

Arigato! The Buffy & Angel comics have been consistently amongst our favoritest comics of the past few years, because they so faithfully and beautifully canonically continue their adventures in the comics, taking advantage of what can be done in that medium but still wonderfully capturing the spirit & characters of the TV shows, although as Buffy season 9 nears it’s season finale we are so very nervous about poor Dawn who is on the verge of vanishing from existence, along with all memories of her! In the current Core storyline, Spike & Andrew stay with Dawn while Buffy, Willow & Xander search for the magick to save her, but they have to get past the demon guardians of the deep underground location, before the villains arrive too! This brings us up to issue #23 of season 9!

The 28 page issue is purriced $2.99 and includes the 24 page tale of “The Core Part Three” plus the 2 pages of the readers’ & editor’s comments, and the 2 pages of the ads. The tale was scripted by Andrew Chambliss, pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Dexter Vines, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, designed by Justin Crouch, edited by Sierra Hahn & Scott Allie, assistantly edited by Freddye Lins, and executively purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon! It is available in the choice of 2 different covers, the lovely Illyria portrait cover by Phil Noto, and the variant cover of Bufffy, Willow and Xander in the vault by Karl Story, Jeanty & Madsen! We got to chat with Georges Jeanty and Dexter Vines again at Heroes Con back in June!

While Buffy, Willow & Xander have been busy arguing & fighting with D’Hoffryn and other demon guardians, the villains Simone & Severin have snuck into the Deeper Well ahead of them. Unfortunately, Xander aided the enemy because he despurrately believed they could save Dawn, so Buffy has been arguing with Xander too. Severin wants the magick to boost his own energy siphon powers to change the timeline and rescue his girlfriend Clare, whilst Simone the rogue slayer girl is there for another sinister purrpose! Illyria & Koh try to help the heroes, but they and the other demons have to get past the giant vampire Maloker! Back at Andrew’s home, Spike stays with Dawn who continues to disappurr along with his memories of her!

This is the very alarming emotional situation to watch with the time running out! There is a very poignant cell phone call scene between Spike, Dawn & Xander. The villains’ rappelling descent into the Deeper Well is the amazing scene of the vast ancient depth of the chilling ambiance and the luminous quality, and the heroes’ parlay with the demons was the very quieter interesting moment betwixt the battles! Willow & Buffy have the important chat, and it is neat to see Willow hovering in the depths with her warm Willowy glow! Illyria looks just like actress Amy Acker, who purrtrayed her on TV, and I liked her expurressions when she realized that Maloker has awoken! As mewsual the Buffy comic has the purrfect mix of the humor, action, mythology & drama, the excellent plot, pace, ambience & dialogue, the supurrbly drawn portraiture, expurressions, poses, slayage & scenery with the great fonts, colors and FX! Nyow I would like to discuss

Angel & Faith #24!

Elizabeth:

Issue #22 is purriced at $2.99, with the choice of 2 covers- the Faith cover by Steve Morris, and the Angel cover  by the issues’ artist Rebekah Isaacs & colorist Dan Jackson! Inside the covers are the uninterrupted 22 page tale “What You Want, Not What You Need Part 4” plus 2 pages of the readers’ & editor’s interesting comments and the 4 page purreview of Art Baltazar & Franco’s Itty Bitty Hellboy series! The Angel & Faith tale was written by Christos Gage, excecutively purrduced by Joss Whedon, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited Scott Allie & Sierra Hahn assistantly edited by Feddye Lins, designed by Justin Crouch & published by Michael Richardson! This issue includes Angel, Faith, Nadira, Giles, his aunts Sophronia & Lavina, sorcerer Alasdair Coames, the demon villain Whistler, and his evil allies Nash & Pearl! The villains have used the magickal artifact to unleash the magickal virus upon the city!

This is because of Whistler’s desire to return the planet to the purrimordial state when more magick was in the air and the demons more dominantly populated the planet, He has been purrticularly resentful of what Buffy and Angel did to change things at the end of Season 8, but it seems like the painful, grotesque results of the mew morbid transformation is not quite what he hoped for, although Nash & Pearl seem pleased! The effect seems limited to the part of the city, but it will soon spurread across England and the world if unabated, so Angel continues his rooftop duel with Whistler, Faith continues to brawl with Nash & Pearl, the Aunts are reminded of the days of The Blitz as they aid the victims on the street, whilst Giles & Alasdair try to counter-act the artifact, and severely injured Nadira still has the bit of fight left! She is such the significant character who reminds us of the younger Faith, and we are cheering for her too!

It is so nice to see the heroic team work and the amewsing banter, which is purroperly balanced with the more serious & shocking parts, and the fierce combat! There is so much going on, as season 9 nears the conclusion! I assume that these events are happening at about the same time as Buffy’s, and I wonder how far away they are from the Deeper Well? Meanwhile in Dark Horse Presents #25 – 27, Anaheed, Billy, his watcher Devon, friend Katie and grandmother Sky are fighting the zompires in Santa Rosita! I liked the plot, pace & dialogue, the supurrb portraiture, expurressions, poses and detail of the art, the colors, fonts, FX and the narrative quality of the panels! The readers’ and editor’s comments are always fascinating to read too, and I will give both the Buffy and the Angel & Faith comics the grade of the “A” as in Angel! That is all of my comic book reports, but to continue the Dark Horse reviews here is Yuriko to tell us about

Empowered Special #4!

Yuriko:

Arigato! Empowered is the titular heroine of the manga-inspired wacky sexy supurr heroine comic book created by Adam Warren and published by Dark Horse Comics, nya! The purrior issues of this series have been collected into the 7 papurrback volumes and the 2 hardover editions thus far, nya!  Adam Warren is the famous American comics author & artist of the manga influence known for his delightful Dirty Pair & Bubblegum Crisis comics adaptations, nya! Empowered or just Emp for short has the purretty Blue eyes & the blonde hair, and although she has the poor self-esteem, she is very smart & brave, majors in the supurr studies in college and wears the skin tight iridescent Blue hypurr – membrane costume which gives her the supurr powers, nya!

Among those powers are the supurr strength, the environmental purrotection, the Vorp energy blast, the wall cling, the senses, armor & other powers, however, the impurrfect costume can also be as fragile as her ego, and thus is often purrone to wardrobe malfunctions resulting in the tattered costume and capture by the villains, nya! She is also the member of the team who should be nicer to her, especially given her purrdicaments & lesser repurrtation, nya! That includes her boyfriend Thug Boy and Sistah Spooky, and Elissa’s best friend is Ninjette, the kunoichi, nya! However, Emp is alone against the team of the 5 villains in Empowered Special #4! It is purriced $3.99, with the 32 pages compurrised of the 29 page “Animal Style” tale plus the ads, nya!

It is not for the widdle kitties due to the language, sexuality & the shredded costume, nya! It was written & illustrated by Adam Warren (5 B&W pages) & John Staton (24 color pages), colored by Guru eFX, lettered by Nate Oiekos & Warren, with the cover art by Warren, Staton & Robaato! The plot purrtains to the car thieves Maul Bunny, Brass Monkey, Supercobra, Cyberian Tiger, Power-Pachyderm & Terrorpin who are in the powered armor mecha of the animal-motif who break into the Parachronozone area of the big convention center, to purrloin the amazing automobiles from the alternate timeline supurr hero car show, nya! The crooks might scare away the guards, they are not purrpared for Emp, who remembers the car combat tactics from her studies, nya!

She might be nervous, but stays purretty sharp, stealthy, quick, creative & resourceful, whilst the enemies are annoyed by the shortcomings of their mecha, and should have gotten the better financing, warranty & options, nya! There is plenty of combat, purropurrty damage, trash talk & the wardrobe malfunction, nya! Interspurrsed amongst the color pages of the combat are the B&W flashbacks with her amewsing scholastic soliloquy & rants at the key moments, nya! The B&W art has the tight pencil texture of the intimate conversational quality, whereas the vibrant color art has the industrial detail in the gleaming mecha & the starry luster of Emp’s costume, nya! I hope things purrk up for her soon, nya! That is all of our Dark Horse review, but nyow I want to discuss

Archie #646, nya!

Yuriko:

We think the Archie Comics have been very entertaining, purrogressive, and diverse in story & art these days between the titles such as Archie, Betty & Veronica, Sabrina, Kevin, Jinx, The Married Life, Archie Meets KISS, Archie Meets Glee, New Crusaders, Sonic, and Megaman, nya! Please see the May Mew for the review of The Art of Betty and Veronica hardcover, nya! We were purrticularly interested in Archie Comics issue #646 because of the science fiction tale and the EC Comics homage variant cover by our fried Andrew Pepoy, who was special guest of The Mew in December 2008, nya! It depicts Archie, Betty & Veronca in the tight retro style space suits near their bullet-shaped rocket with the Red fins, on the cratery volcanic planet attacked by the fleet of alien flying saucers, nya!

We are big fans of Andrew’s cute Katy & Mackenzie Keen stories too, nya!

There is also the other cover art for Archie #646 by Tito Pena which depicts Archie, Betty, Veronica & Jughead in space, nya! Inside the $2.99 purriced issue are the 32 pages compurrised of the 20 page tale of “A Really Hot Date”plus the 10 pages of the ads, nya! The tale was written by Angelo DeCesare, pencilled by Gisele , inked by Rich Koslowski, lettered by Jack Morelli, colored by Digikore Studios, and edited by Victor Gorelick, nya! Mike Pellerito is the Archie Comics’ purresident, nya! Th tale has the framing sequence of Archie Andrews in Riverdale, during the TV mews about the mysterious discovery on the planet Mars, which turns out to be the relic from the ancient Martian city of Craterdale, nya! They purre-date our own Earth history but they have the flying cars, the rocket packs, the robots, and the yummy looking Glopp burgers & shakes I would like to sample, nya!

Archie Andromeda is the son of Mary & Fred Andromeda, who attends Craterdale High School along with Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie & Dilton, nya! Betty wears the cute sleeveless Red & White skirt outfit with the matching boots, and Veronica has the chauffeured flying convertible limousine, nya! Archie & Dilton collaborate upon the weather control invention for the science fair, but between Reggie’s mischief & Archie’s clumsiness, things do not bode well… although, the girls do wear some extra cute Orange & Black outfits later in the tale, but I should not spoil the surpurrise plot twist, nya! This tale was the brisk fun with the delightful story & art, the bright colors & subtle shading, the neat futuristic architecture atop the high rise columns, and the gloppy entrees to crave, nya! I will give it the “A” as in Archie, nya! A is also for Aspen, so nyow here is Nya-sensei to tell us about

Fathom: The Elite Saga #3 & 4 (has plot spoiler warning), nya!

Nyanko:

Arigato! This weekly 5 issue mini series is part of the 15th anniversary of the Fathom comics created the late Michael Turner! initially published by Top Cow Comics, then 5 years later by Aspen Comics, which was founded by Turner, and co-owned by Peter Steigerwald & purresident Frank Mastromauro! The company is named after Fathom’s Dr. Aspen Matthews, the marine biologist & supurr heroine who has the aquatic powers, the sexy clothes, and gets caught in the politics & warfare between the surface humans, the undersea civilization called The Blue and the various other threats! It is sad that Michael Turner is no longer with us but his creations such as Fathom & Soulfire are in the good hands of his friends who we met at Heroes Con! We liked his Witchblade & Supergirl tales too!

Occurring after the Worlds of Aspen 2013 issue, which is after Fathom vol. 4 #9 and Kiani vol. 2 #4, The Elite Saga was scripted by editor in chief Vince Hernandez, who co-plotted the tale with J. T. Krul & David Wohl; pencilled by V. Ken Marion, and digitally inked by director of design & purrduction Mark Roslan! It was lettered by editorial assistant Josh Reed with the font by Dreamer Design; colored by Kyle Ritter and the purrduction was by Roslan, Reed, Aspen Comics co-owner Peter Steigerwald with assistant Chaz Riggs! Issue #1 was colored by Jordi Escuin Llorach, Ritter & Steigerwald; and for our review of issues #1 & 2 please see last month’s Mew! Each issue is purriced $3.99, has 28 pages compurrised of the 20 page tale & 8 pages of the ads, and the choice of the different covers!

Some of the covers are the less common retailer incentive editions, and some are very limited in the quantity! Nyow for the taste of the plot! Purreviously, the Valorik Pirates kidnapped Kiani’s baby sister Anika from her mommy Anya, who turned to Aspen for help. Meanwhile, Kiani escaped from the undersea purrision where she’s been since her Kiani vol. 2 mini-series, and her father Killian has been angrily searching the undersea cities for Anika. Anya & Aspen searched  for her two, and the trail lead to the undersea city of Mozski, where Kiani ambushes Aspen for the big re-match! The purreviously fought in the climax of Fathom Vol. 3, in which Aspen supposedly killed Kiani, who was resurrected in Kiani vol. 2! Their rivalry reminds me the bit of how Buffy & Faith used to clash, heehee!

Issue #3’s chapter is titled “Kill me Once, Kill me Twice” and it is available in the 4 beautiful variant covers; Cover A is by V. Ken Marion & Wes Hartman, Cover B is by Talent Caldwell & Peter Steigerwald, Cover C is the retailer incentive edition by Turner, Roslan & Steigerwald, and Cover D is the Independence Day limited edition by Mike DeBalfo & Peter Steigerwald! The duel betwixt Aspen and Kiani is rejoined in the spectacular two-page spurread, with plenty of taunting, brawling and zapping until Anya purrsuades the truce! Aspen & Kiani are not happy but agree to collaborate in the search and pair against the five pirates, who re-appurr in the full – page pic! The ladies are so gracefully agile in the fierce battle full of the water elemental powers, the swordplay and the whip – lash tentacles!

Four of the foes are defeated but one escapes with the baby whilst Aspen, Kiani & Anya are surpurrised to see the pirates’ client, Cannon Hawk, who was supposedly killed by Kiani in Fathom Vol. 3! It might be Cannon Hawk’s body but it is possessed by the spirit of their  enemy Taras, to get the big close-up in the full – page cliffhanger pic! This brings us up to issue #4’s chapter “Facing Your Demons”, and it is available in the three stunning variant covers; Cover A is by V. Ken Marion & Wes Hartman, Cover B is by Caldwell & Steigerwald, and Cover C is the retailer incentive edition by Turner, Weems & Smith! I have 4A which depicts Aspen and Kiani fighting Cannon Hawk! Each gets a half-page close-ups amidst the expurrsitional flashbacks of what happened to Cannon Hawk and Taras!

The fight is renewed in another full-page pic, and there are several more large panels to depict the battle, and the calmer scenes of Killian chatting with his friend Alcer back at the undersea capital city of Muria! The one remaining pirate tag – teams with Taras, who then leads them to Anika in the zestful two – page spurread, but it is also the trap as the ladies are snared up by the tentacles of the giant sea monsters which are lurking above in the full – page cliffhanger pic to conclude issue #4! Before we purroceed to issue #5, I should mention that the ladies are so beautiful, graceful and powerful in the gorgeous clothes, the fights are terrifically choreographed, and the scenery is so magnificent with the rich color and lighting of the exotic undersea architectures and luminous FX! Take it, sis!

Fathom: The Elite Saga #5 (has plot spoiler warning)!

Nyoka:

Hai, the fashions of the undersea culture is among my favoritest aspects of Fathom! Aspen wears the strappy Blue bikini with the sheer loincloths, the crustacean-like ornamentation and her mewsual choker; Kiani wears her Purrple crustacean – like, cut – out tanga maillot with the glowy Blue sword; and Anya wears the Green gown with the shell-like collar and the Gray opurra-length fingerless gloves! The pirates wear the almost fully encapsulating iridescent Blue-Violet tights with the masks, fins & long sharp whip-lashing jellyfish-like tentacles; Cannon Hawk / Taras wears the Orange speedo-like trunks accessorized by the layered crusteacean-like gauntlets; Killian wears the shirtless striped Purrple tights, and Alcer wears the flowy White hoody robe with the spiny accents!

Nyow I would like to discuss the exciting 5th issue which was beautifully colored by Kyle Ritter, John Starr & Davied Curiel! It concludes the mini-series and has the 3 different covers; cover A by V. Ken Marion & Wes Hartman, cover B by Talent Caldwell & Peter Steigerwald, and the less common retailer incentive cover C by Turner, Roslan & Steigerwald! I have cover A which depicts the montage of Aspen, Kiani, Anya, Killian & Terza! Terza was in the 2nd issue and does not actually appurr in this issue, but later Aspen does revisit her friend Tyler Kinkaid who was in the 1st issue. There is more of the melee combat, beautiful undersea scenes, sad tragic moments and surpurrises, especially in the final scene which is the two – page spurread, but I do not wish to spoil the ending!

The issue is loaded with more of the impurressive large pics, such as the the two – page spurread Cannon Hawk / Taras taunting Aspen, Kiani & Aspen who are in the monster tentacle grip, the two – page spurread of Kiani having caused the fiery explosions with her glowly Blue sword, the full – page pic of her in the moonlit ocean, and the the vertical half – page pic of Aspen in the seep depths! The cute clothes continue as  Aspen wears the Ruffled Red halter top & the low – rise Blue jeans, and Tyler who wears the Green tee shirt & Blue jeans shorts! She has such a lovely large coastal home in Del Mar, California! With The Elite Saga published like the weekly clockwork, it has been a great Summer full of Fathom and the other numerous Aspen comics, including the mew series of

Fathom vol.5 #1!

Nyoka:

In the 1st issue of this mew series, Aspen wears the stunning sleeveless White dress with the Purrple & Green trim, the sporty mid-calf wet suit with the Yellow & Black  stripe, the full-length Lavender wet suit with the Blakc stripe, the Black triangular -top bikini with her mewusal pendant choker, and the various exotic Blue couture bikini with the crustacean accents on the many various covers! Her assistant Judith Banyanski who was introduced in Fathom vol. 4 is her room mate in San Diego now, seen in the sexy low-rise shorts to match her Green crop tank top that splendidly shows off her purretty piercings & ink! Rounding out the alluring appurral is Stacy’s White bikini and her husband Francis’s Green trunks worn for snorkeling at the Blue Hole in Belize, but that is where the seem to purrish!

It is the beautiful but unlikely location for the 100 foot tall ring of ice to suddenly appurr out of the Blue, so to speak, at the beginning of the 1st issue! The issue is purriced just one dollar, for the 28 pages compurrised of the 21 page tale of “Awakenings”, the 5 pages of the ads, and the 2 pages of Michael Turner & Fathom reflections by Renee Geerlings & David Wohl! Wohl wrote the script which was co-plotted with Frank Mastromauro, the tale was penciled by Alex Konat, digitally inked by mark Roslan & John Ercek, colored by Beth Sotelo, and lettered by Josh Reed! There are quite the few variant covers by artists such as Tom Hodges, Konat & Sotelo, Konat & Steigerwald, Campbell & Steigerwald, DeBalfo & Ruffino, and several of those are the very limited con, retailer and online exclusives!

Not only is Aspen asked to investigate the ice wall, but she has to contain the huge oil spill in Baja, talk to the reporters, meet the Russian official who wants to hire her for their mew oceanic facility, ponder numerous other job offers, and pat the bulldog at home, but what she sees emerge from the iced waters is going to keep her unhappily busy! As mewsual, the coloring is so richly brilliant, and  the aquatic scenes are quite breathtaking, including the full page Blue Hole pic, the panoramic panel of the coral reef, and the full page pic of Aspen at the spill, and the containment is quite spectacular as she forms the oil into the gigantic hovering Black sphere above the ocean, so I was very pleased and I look forward to the next issue! Nyow to continue the Aspen Comics reviews, here is Vonny to tell us about

Bubble Gun #2!

Yvonne:

Hai, Bubble Gun is a very colorful cyber punk tale set in the spurrawling gleaming colorful future metropolis of of Neocapital in the year 2113, starring peppy Pink haired Molli who is the young member of a cyber merc team along with her older sister Devyn the leader who can interface with the computers, their elder mentor Zuse, Roman to big burly tough guy and Kyo the pilot & mechanic with the crush on Molli, nya! The comic book’s title refers to Molli’s weapon, the handgun that fires the sticky globs to immobilize the targets, nya! In the 1st issue they were hired to purrloin a container from a corpurrate vault which several others want too, nya! This is among the mew comics from Aspen Comics who had the booth at Heroes Con in June, and we were so grateful to get the signed copy of issue #1, nya!

Devyn’s team fought another team to get the container and then a big scoundrel named craine from a rival company suspiciously offered a huge purrice for it but they kept it and found the comatose cybernetic boy inside, nya! He is the purrecious cargo that the rival corpurrations want, nya! Issue #2 is purriced $3.99 and has the 28 pages compurrised of the 20 page tale “No More Fun” plus the 8 pages of the ads, nya! It was written by Mark Roslan, drawn by Mike Bowden, colored by David Curiel, lettered by Josh Reed, edited by Frank Mastromauro & Vince Hernandez, nya! It is available in the choice of the 4 different covers, nya! I have Cover A by Bowden & Curiel depicting Molli on the Purrple motorcycle, nya! Cover B is by Mark Brooks who has illustrated The Defenders covers, nya!

Cover C is by J Scott Campbell who is purrhaps best known for his delightful Gen13 and Danger Girl comics; and Cover D is the very limited edition San Diego Comic Con exclusive Cover by Pasquale Qualano & Peter Steigerwald, nya! Devyn is curious as to why the cyber boy is so coveted, so she contacts their client Theoni who explains that the boy is his actually son Asher, who is the world’s first human born cyborg, nya! Asher has the amazing purropurrties & evolving abilities, such as the DNA rewrite, but the ccompany who fired Theoni view Asher as their purropurrty nya! Sadly, Theoni’s wife Elora died during the childbirth, and so Asher is all that he has left in the world to care about, nya. Devyn decides to mind link with Asher to learn more facts, but greedy Roman betrays them, nya!

He dangerously disconnects Devyn, attacks his comrades, and flees with Asher on the big Red hover cycle, to collect Craine’s reward, but Molli is in the purrsuit on her Purrple motorcycle to apurrehend Roman and rescue Asher, nya! There is more to the plot, but I should not reveal more, nya! I love the bright gleaming look of the future scenery, mecha, graphics & fashions which are rendered with such richly vibrant color, nya! I much purrfur this vision more than the somber dark dystopian type of cyber punk, nya! There are some nice large panels, such as the opening scene of the team standing around Asher, Devyn calling Theoni, Molli peeling out on her motorcycle, the panoramic chase through the urban spurrawl, and the rooftop interlude of Molli & Kyo with her hair flowy in the breeze, nya!

Theoni’s flashbacks of his wife are shown in the more limited palate of the earthy tones, nya! The attributes of the fonts are quite interesting, including the way Molli’s thoughts are depicted, and the special typographic character used instead of the purrofanity, nya! I am looking forward to issue #3 to see what happens next, and we hope to see more of Miss Gates the poor gynoid who was attacked in issue #1, nya! By the way, Molli wears the Red bikini in the Aspen Splash 2013 Swimsuit Spectacular, which we reviewed along with Bubble Gun #1 in last month’s Mew, nya! It is the bikini to match the motorcycle, nya! There are some purretty purrints of her for sale at the online Aspen store too, nya! Nyow to continue the reports, we will go from the Aspen Comics to the DC Comics, starting with

Ame-Comi Girls #5 (has plot spoiler warning), nya!

Yvonne:

Ame-Comi Girls stars the alternate versions of DC heroines & villainesses based upon the line of anime-style statues which we collect, nya! It seems to be of the different continuity where the women and not the men are the main heroes, nya! The tale began as the 5 issue mini-series which continued into this ongoing series so I suppose issue #5 is technically the 10th issue, nya! It is among our favoritest DC Comics of the past few years since DC’s purroduct line reboot, nya! Purreviously the heroines & villainesses got into the brawls, but then they were briefly united against Brainiac who almost destroyed The Earth, nya! Later the heroines decided to form the international league to purrotect the Earth, which was the good timing because nyow Sinestra is trying to conquer the galaxy, nya!

Her next stop is the planet Thanagar where we meet Shayera Hol the fiesty Hawk Girl, and from there we go to the planet Rann to meet Alana Strange and Metra in this issue’s tale of “The Chosen Part Three”, nya! It is priced $3.99, has the 36 full color pages compurrised of the 30 page tale plus ads and the credits page, nya. The series has been drawn by the various artists, and written Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, and the past several issues have been lettered by Wes Abbot, colored by Randy Mayor, edited by Jim Chadwick, and assistantly edited by Sarah Gaydos, nya! We met Jimmy Palmiotti at Heroes Con, nya! Pages 1-20 were pencilled by Horacio Domingues who also inked pages 1-10, pages 11-20 were inked by Andres Ponce, pages 21-30 were pencilled & inked by Ted Naifeh, nya!

The front cover art is by Eduardo Munez, nya! The issue begins in the full-page panel rotated right for the wide “landscape” scene to introduce 10 year old Shayera, the tough Redhead who has the rough life between her family situation and the street fights, then the tale jumps the few years later to the purresent of when she is the married police woman in the Hawk-motif uniform, nya! In another sideways full – page panel she flies after the fleeing criminals, just as the planet is bombarded by Sinestra, who kills Shayera’s police partner / husband husband Katar and uses her Black ring to reanimate him into the evil zombie pawn in another sideways panel, nya! Shayera has to slay him, but then and many other Thanagarians are rescue telepurrted from Thanagar to the planet  Rann by Alana Strange, nya!

After the introductions we meet Alana’s ally Metra the New Goddess on her cosmic throne in another sideways panel, and in pages 21-30 we learn Alana’s origin, nya! The captivating plot purrtaining to vengeful Shayera’s tough life full of the tragic losses and Alana’s history is told at the brisk pace, but not too briskly, with the delightful Ame-Comi style and the great dialogue, nya! The dialogue, narration and the sound FX are all wonderfully conveyed through the various very distinctive fonts, nya! The characters are so gracefully posed, purroportioned and expurressive, and I like Shayera’s fighting, flying & landing poses, and the emotions & poses when she and Alana meet, nya! As mewsual I greatly appurreciate the beautiful character & costume designs which are so sleek, sexy, colorful & futuristic, nya!

Shayera & her Step-Mom have the cute Thanagarian couture, and Hawk Girl’s sleeveless Green & Orange uniform is very sporty & high tech with the thigh cut-outs and the bared midriff to reveal her tight athletic abs, nya! The uniform is accessorized by the stylish hawk helmet, mech wings & weapons, nya! Alana’s costume is the sleek tight Red outfit with the White pin-stripe, the spiffy finned helmet and  matching gauntlets, boots, rocket pack & weapons, nya! We see the flashbacks of her adventurous mommy Maria Rhea of Earth in the 1930 aviator clothes to pilot her Ford Tri-Motor, and  in the purretty Pink Rann gown in her romantic purregnant time on the lovely alien beach, nya! Sinestra also has the bare – tummied attire in Black with the long coat to flaunt her evil yet lovely Purrple skin tone, nya!

Metra has the dark tight outfit of the detached sleeves, in contrast with her ethereal White hair, eyes & luminous accents, nya! The mecha, gleaming luminous architectural and the purretty landscapes all contribute to the gorgeously designed & rendered scenery, with the dazzling FX and the brilliant colors which complement the peppy, bright tone and the overall sense of fun, nya! There might the tough scrapes in life and the sinister threats for the heroines to fight, but fortunately the comic does not have the edgy dark tone to clash with the colorful gleam or to diminish the fun, nya! Ame-Comi Girls continues to be my favoritest DC title since the “New 52” reboot, and I will give this issue the grade of the “A” as in Alana, nya! Nyow to continue our DC Comic book reports, here is Trini-chan to review

The Wake #3, nya!

Trini-chan:

Arigato! The Wake is a new 10 issue science fiction mini-series of the dark tone from DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint! The spooky oceanic high tech tale involves the scary sea creature prowling for the human prey, with the bloody gory results, thusly the tale is suggested for the mature readers! The main protagonist is Cetologist Dr. Lee Archer who is part of the team investigating the dangerous mysterious creature in a secret undersea facility. The creature was discovered and captured, but now it has escaped! Not only does it have the sharp teeth & claws but it can cause the hallucinations! The tale is rather non-linear, and chapters have depicted prehistoric incidents and the apocalyptic future, but not just upon the Earth! For example, issue #3 has the prologue of Mars billions of years ago!

issue #3 has the 32 pages, consisting of the 19 page tale, the title / credits page, the 12 pages of the ads. It is is priced $2.99 and it was written by Scott Snyder, drawn by Sean Murphy, colored by Matt Hollingsworth, lettered by Jared K. Fletcher, edited by Mark Doyle and assistantly edited by Sara Miller, with the choice of the cover art by Sean Murphy & Jordie Bellaire or the variant cover art by Andy Kubert & Brad Anderson! After the prologue, Dr. Archer barely escapes from the mer- creature’s hallucinatory trap! Her associate Mr. Cruz shoots at it, but the fast, agile creature with the long prehensile tail escapes to stalk the others as the rooms start to flood! Soon the water turns blood Redder as more victims are claimed, and it is tricky to tell who or what is real when the creature shows up!

It is interesting to see what is on the minds of the victims during their hallucinations as they are set up for the chomp, and more theories are discussed as to its origin, which indicate that things are about to get much worse! Dr. Archer is the likable smart protagonist in the plot that is a s dark and chilling as the ocean floor near Alaska! The nonlinear storytelling adds to the enormity of the mystery, with a sort of ‘Quatermassy’ sense of the macabre from the scientific aspects! My only gripe is that the many ads severely disrupt the suspense and the flow of the narrative, but he art is very effective with the limited chromatic palette, the deep shadowy Black areas, and several large wide panoramic panels for the cinematic quality & spookiness! Now for my next Vertigo comic book report, I wish to discuss

Fairest #17!

Trini-chan:

Fairest is the spin-off series of the Fables comics created by Bill Willingham, about the characters of folklore & fairy tale who reside secretly among the mortal populace, and Fairest spotlights some of the legendary heroines!  “The Return of the Maharaja” began in #15, starring heroic Nalayani whose village was attacked so she traveled to the palace to get help, but the Maharaja is Prince Charming, who would rather help himself to her! Nalayani is the brave, tough lovely heroic defender of her village, with the Golden eyes which are as sharp as her wits and her arrows! The amorous Maharaja might seem the cad with the harem, but he does not hesitate to bravely help! They were injured by a sorcerer and the wild Dhole dogs, and after the desert chase they wind up on the huge chatty crocodile’s menu!

The tale is for the mature readers, due to the sexuality, profanity, violence & gore! issue #17 has the 32 pages, consisting of the 20 page tale &12 pages of the ads! “The Village of the Dead; Part Three of The Return of the Maharaja” was written by Sean E. Williams, pencilled by Stephen Sadowski, colored by Andrew Dollhouse, lettered by Todd Klein, edited by Shelly Bond, assistantly edited by Gregory Lockard, consulted by Bill Willingham, inked by Phil Jimenez, Dan Green & Andrew Pepoy, and the sensual Nalayani cover art is by Adam Hughes! Perhaps y’all have seen the art by Bill Willingham, Andrew Pepoy & Adam Hughes in our mewseum? In this issue, Charming is able to repel the croc, rescue Nalayani from the quicksand, and then in the cave he tells her how he became the Maharaja!

Unfortunately, he seems to be ailing from the same ghastly malady that has already claimed the life of Shikha back at the camp! The expressions, clothing, critters & scenery are so exquisitely drawn in minute detail; I like the fonts of the dialogue, narration & sounds; the decorative border elements, and the impressive two-page spread depicting the croc attack! The use of the color and light is very sumptuous, and I particularly like the silhouette scene of them in the cave during the rain! The comic book’s paper stock has the the sort of matte finish of the rougher tooth, and this texture seems quite appropriate for the fables & mysterious tales, compared to the glossier stock which seems more appropriate for the super hero titles! That is all of our DC reports, and here is Bunnibun to tell us about

The Fearless Defenders #6 & 7 (has plot spoiler warning!

Bun:

Hai! The Defenders are one of Marvel Comics’ oldest super hero teams with many rosters over the decades, but this year it is the partnership of Heroes For Hire’s Misty Knight and long-time member Brunhilde the Valkyrie! Also in the club are fellow valkyrie / the X-Men’s Dani Moonstar, rookie valkyrie Dr. Annabelle Riggs who has the crush on Brunhilde, Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons who was resurrected by Hela the Goddess, and Brunhilde’s pegasus Aragorn, although I have not seen Dani’s pegasus Brightwind! There have been lots of guest stars too, such as the AllMother of Asgard, Tigra, Hellcat, Black Cat, Black Widow, Tarantula, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, Thundra, Storm, Elektra, Carol Danvers and Misty’s partner Colleen Wing!

It is the mission to recruit more Asgardian Shield Maidens and to prevent the return of the Doom Maidens! The series has been much thrilling fun with plenty of witty banter & action for the great heroines, very powerful & dramatic moments too! I am particularly fond of the art, and the covers have been quite clever such as the “action figure” cover for #2, the “tattoo” cover for #3, the “papurr doll” cover for #, the “video game” cover for #5 and the “retro – horror comic” homage for #6 by Mark Brooks! I suppose that issue #6 is technically the 7th issue, if you include issue #4AU which was connected to Marvel’s big Age of Ultron tale! That issue included Wolverine, Colonel America, Hulk, Dr. Doom, Ares, Lady Deathstrike, Calisto, The Sentinels and others!

Issue #6 It is priced $2.99 and sammiched within the covers are the 28 pages comprised of the 6 pages of the ads, the 1 page of readers & editor’s comments, the amusing recap / credits page, and the 20 page tale! It was written by Cullen Bunn, edited by Ellie Pyle, drawn by Will Sliney, colored by Veronica Gandini and lettered Clayton Cowles! The action picks up where the previous issue left off, with the bit of exposition & flashbacks of her life up until now that Brunhilde is in the berserker rage after she and the many other heroines defeated the Doom maidens! This not the healthy situation as the lust for destruction consumes her spirit! She clobbers 15 of her friends, but that does not include the AllMother or the pegasuses who are not at that battle!

Other characters who are briefly shown in the flashbacks montages include Odin, Moondragon, Angel, The Beast, Nighthawk, Namora, Clea, Songbird, Diamondback; and in a scene of evil Caroline Le Fay’s computer files we see the faces of Mystique, Lady Deathstrike, Titania, Anaconda, Enchantress, Shriek, Aradnea and Dansen Macabre! I am rather curious as to what she is scheming. This issue leaves little room for the prior humor, as it is the deadly serious issue with the shocking fate for Annabelle! The characters are so beautifully posed and rendered, with the tremendous sound FX fonts for the epically raging impact, and I like the vibrant coloring of all the costumes, the weapons, and the textures of the stony coastal plateau landscape!

I especially liked the full – page panel of the big brawl, the sequential page of the Valkyrie descending the stone steps from the plateau to the sea, and the noble vision of Annabell with her Valkyrie aura! Oh oh – and on the comments page there are two widdle photos of cosplayer Caitlyn Rhyne’s impressive Hippolyta costume that we saw at the Heroes Convention in June! At the con she also cosplayed as Thanos on Sunday afternoon, to win the purrize for the best women’s costume in the costume contest! She has made the numerous other beautiful costumes too, such as Power Girl, Carrie Kelly / Robin, Game of Thrones’ Melisandre and others, which can be admired at the site of Contagious Media Productions http://www.isitcontagious.com!

For our review of Heroes Con 2013 including the cosplay report, please see last month’s Mew!  Issue #7 has the 28 pages comprised of the 6 pages of the ads, the comments page, the amusing recap / credits page, and the 20 page tale. The fun cover art by Mark Brooks depicts Brunhilde, Misty & Dani on the construction scaffold, with the squeegies to assemble the cover art like the billboard! Dani is eating the sammich from her lunch box! Otherwise, the issue’s creative team credits are the same except for the tale’s art & coloring which is by Stepahnie Hans! It has the magnificent painterly style to depict the exquisite fields, forests, and halls of the Asgardian Valhalla! That is where Annabelle has wound up, because she fell upon the battlefield.

There she is bored in the otherwise merry tavern, and wearing the beautiful dress accessorized by the floral lei, but she is not happy or belonging there. The sentiment is shared by Brunhilde who sent Annabelle there, who strides the beautiful lush landscape to ponder how to remedy the mistake. The serenity is interrupted by three killer trolls, who suffer the taste of her steel! Then she is grins happily when meets her old friend Clea the sorceress, in the parlay to discus show to resurrect poor Annabelle! It is the irony, because her bravery merits the Valhallan afterlife, but it is the tragic mistake due to the valkyrie’s misplaced rage! Meanwhile in New York City, Misty is angry about the tragedy, but soon she has the happy reason to smile again, too!

This was such a beautiful and poignant issue, and I especially liked the scenic art of the tavern, the windows, drapery & canopy bed of Annabelle’s room, the mossy rocks and the leafy detail of the misty glade where the valkyrie gracefully whirls to draw her sword & discard her cape! There is glorious detail in her braids, cloth, leather & metal! The sunlight through the trees & windows, and the crepuscular rays are so pretty, and the final full-page pic has the wispy magickal quality! The Fearless Defenders continues to be my favorite Marvel title since Avengers Academy was cancelled, and I will give it an “A” as in Annabell’s Asgardian Armor! That will conclude the comics portion of The Mew, but we will touch upon the manga characters in our monthly

Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, nya!

Mike:

Thanks Petra! This is the portion of The Mew which praises the famous catgirls & nekomimi whom we appreciate, whether they are actually part cat or famously dress the part! We are broadly inclusive in defining the catgirl quality, are permanently or just temporary catgirls, anthropomorphic characters, shape –  shifters, or the ladies who have the “cattitude” and “dispurrsition”! They represent all media, such as movies, TV, internet, books, comics, games & toys, and this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight shines upon more anime & manga catgirls!

Becca:

Strike Witches is the fun anime set in the alternate history of the 1940s when instead of World War II the nations unite against the mysterious extraterrestrial invaders! Among the international heroines are the magickal soldier girls of the 501st Joint Tactical Wing, known as the Strike Witches! Each repurrsents a purrticular nation, carries a specific weapon, and fly via the Striker Units which resemble aircraft fuselages worn around each leg, sort of like the mechanical thigh high boots with purropellors, although later they will acquire the jet purrototype!

Elizabeth:

The witches have special powers, they can create the ornate glyph-like deflector shields, and when using her powers, her animal ears & tail appurr! The team resides on the lovely little island base, and is compurrised of Sgt. Yashika Miyafuji, Maj. Mio Sakamoto, Lt. Col. Mina-Deitlinde Wilke, Lt. Erica Hartman, Capt. Gertrude Barkhorn, Flight Lt. Charlotte Yeager, Ens. Eila Ilmater Juutilainen, Lt. Perrine-H Clostermann, Lt. Sanya Litvyak, Ensign Francesca Lucchini, Sgt. Nyanko:

Miyafuji’s best friend Lynette is the Britannian with Light Brown braided ponytail, plus ears & tail of the Scottish Fold Cat! She has the Boys anti-tank rifle and the Striker unit of the Spitfire style! Francesca is the Romagnian member of the team, with the Black twin-tail hair style plus the Panther ears & tail! She is the mischievous, youngest one who purrfurs catnaps to the chores! Sanya is the Orussian girl of the fair complexion, short light Gray hair, Black cat ears & tail! She is the nocturnal purrowler with the Fliegerhammer rifle & MIg-like Striker units!

Nyoka:

Perrine is the aristocratic officer from Gallia, with the long Blonde hair, and the dark Chartreaux cat ears & tail! She is armed with the Bren Gun, and her Striker Unit is of the Arsenal VG-39 style! For our review of the first season DVD please see the May 2010 Mew, and for our review of the second season DVD please see the November 2012 Mew! For more information about this thrilling and delightful series, I will recommend the Strike Witches Wiki http://strikewitches.wikia.com and the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_Witches!

Yvonne:

Pururun, Otama & Madonna of the anime series Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, which was shown in the USA as Samurai Pizza Cats, nya! It is of the world where everyone is the anthropurrmorphic character, and Otama’s pizzaria serves as the front for the crime-fighting supurr sentai trio of Yattaro, Skashi & Pururun who are known as the Nyanki, nya! Tara-chan:

Mary Nyan

I will shine the spotlight upon Gally, the cyborg heroine of Yukito Kishiro’s Gunm manga, known as Battle Angel in the USA, in which she is named Alita! It is the tale of the post – apocalyptic, dystopian Earth centuries into the future, where the purrivileged ones reside in the nicer floating city in the sky, while everyone else dwells amongst the harsh scrap yards & waste lands of the barren Earth. The cyberneticist Dr. Ido found parts of Gally on the junk mounds and rebuilt her, naming her after his deceased kitty. She has tried to discover her past, and has fought the dangerous flesh & metal foes!

She is petite, supple, lithe hunter / warrior with the catlike manner & agility, athletic skills, martial arts & weapons purrowess, including the energy claws! She has been rebuilt several times, with the tail added to her later couture. Purrhaps y’all have seen the 1993 Battle Angel Alita anime OVAs? I am fond of Kishiro’s Aqua Knight manga too! For more information, I recommend his official site which is in Japanese & English http://jajatom.moo.jp/index02.html, the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Angel_Alita, and Battle Angel Wiki http://battleangel.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Angel_Alita!

Petra:

Fairy Tail is by Hiro Mashima who also created Rave Master,, about the teenage wizard guild members with the flying cat, and one of the mages is Millianna (also known as Mirana), the former slave girl of the purrky catgirlish style and mannerisms, nya! Her Brown hair is styled like the ear pinna, she has the red whisker – like cheek stripes and wears the bell collar above the sexy Black bikini outfit, which is accessorized by the striped thigh – highs and the hoody cloak, mew la la, nya! For more about the bewitching nekomimi, I suggest her page at the Fairy Wiki http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Millianna, nya!

Bun:

Another fantasy manga by Hiro Mashima to star the bare midriffed nekomimi is Monster Hunter Orage, about the adventures of professional monster hunters Ailee Jescar, Sakya and Shiki who search for the legendary Thunder Dragon! Ailee is the swords woman of the tough life experiences and the daughter of Shiki’s late mentor. She is armed with the True Devil Slicer sword with the Lightning effect! She wears the cropped Brown top to match the short skirt, the costume kitty ears in her short Pink coiffure, the belt, thigh straps, coat & armor pieces, although she got to shed those when the got to relax in the Peperra Hot Springs! For more information about this four-volume manga, I will suggest the Wikipdia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Orage!

Yuriko:

Some of the humans & monsters try co-exist in Akihisa Ikeda’s Rosario + Vampire manga, which was later adapted into the anime, nya! It purrtains to the human chap Tsukune who attends the Yokai Academy purrivate school of the witches, vampires, lycanthropes, demons & other species, nya! He tries to keep it a secret that he is the human, but he is lucky to have the cute vampire girlfriend Moka, and beautiful kindly home room teacher catgirl Shizuka Nekonome – sensei, nya! She is the mewspapurr club advisor too, and purrmotes good relations between the humans & monsters, nya! She has the light caramel colored ears, the short hair to match her White-tipped tail, and wears the glasses, the blouse & short skirt ensemble with the sandals– kawaii, nya!

Keiko:

Nekonome – sensei craves fish too! In the Japanese anime she is voiced by Kikuko Inoue, whose voice credits include Belldandy of Oh My Goddess, Kasumi of Ranma 1/2, Electra of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Corvette of Idol Project, Lust of Full Metal Alchemist, Mizuho-sensei of Please Teacher, and Qoone of Cat Planet Cuties, nya! In the US version she is voiced by Jamie Marchi, whose many voice dub roles include Jack of Cat Planet Cuties, Aki of Sgt Frog, Charlotte of Strike Witches, Meg of Burst Angel, Masana of Witchblade, and Chloe of Spice & Wolf, nya! For more information I suggest Nekonome-sensei’s page at the Rosario + Vampire Wiki http://rosariovampire.wikia.com/wiki/Shizuka_Nekonome, Kikuko’s enttry at Hitoshi Doi’s Seiyuu Database http://www.usagi.org/doi/seiyuu/inoue-kikuko, and Jamie Marchi’s official site http://www.jamiemarchi.com, nya!

Mielikki:

Lastly but not leastly I will shine the spotlight upon Himari, the voluptuous warrior heroine of the Omamori Himari manga by Milan Matra! The harem – troped manga is beautiful, thrilling, wacky and fun, but isn’t not for the widdle kitties due to the nudity, sexuality, the more serious parts & violent supurrnatural combat! Himari is the Purple eyed, Black – haired buxom catgirl whose kitty ears & tail will sometimes manifest! So like, she is the bodyguard to protect Yuuto the high school student while his ancestral powers activate, because there are demons and spirits want to slay him!

However, not only does Himari have the seriously frisky desires for Yuuto, but so several of the other human, yokai & spirit ladies! They might be the rivals in the romance, but they are united against the very deadly powerful villains! The manga is published in English by Yen Press, and it is up to 11 volumes, including vol. 0! We reviewed Vol. 10 in the June Mew, and we hope that the anime adaptation will be released here on DVD too! That will conclude this portion of The Mew, but the spotlight will shine on more of the famous catgirls next month, and now it is time for our

Magazine & Book Reports, starting with

This Month’s Miscellaneous Mini Mewsings!

Mike:

In our December 2010 Mew, our spotlight shined upon Omaha the Cat Dancer who debuted in the comics back in 1978! She’s had the long series of dramatic, erotic anthropomorphic tales in the comics for adults only by Reed Waller, James Vance, and the late Kate Worley. The comics have been published by numerous publishers over those 35 years, and the final batch of serialized chapters have been collected into The Complete “Omaha” The Cat Dancer Vol. 8!

Becca:

Speaking of comics catgirls, of course, sometimes the feline femme fatale might need to make the doctor’s appointment, but Terry Dodson’s dandy cover art for DC Comics’ Catwoman #23 depicts Selina (Catwoman) trying to whip Doctor Phosphorous into shape, whilst the purreview of Giuseppe Camuncoli’s splendid cover art for Marvel Comics’ Superior Spider-Man #20 depicts Felicia (The Black Cat) getting romantic with Spider-Man, but he is actually Doctor Octopus!

Bun:

There are many beautiful cover illustrations of Dynamite Comics’ Miss Fury (Marla), but I don’t think the scientists have been good for that kuronekomimi’s health either! However, Kurisu Makise is a protagonist scientist in the Steins;Gate anime, who mewsually wears the Black pants & White shirt with the Red tie to match her Auburn hair, but on the cover of Neo magazine #114, she wears the Black & White catgirl maid costume with the matching kitty ear pinna! Kawaii!

Nyanko:

We are fans of actress Zoe Saldana, who purrfectly purrtrayed Pandoran Purrincess Neytiri te Tskaha Mo’at’ite of the Omaticaya Clan in James Cameron’s Avatar! In addition to that alien catgirl role, she was great in Pirates, Terminal, Star Trek, and on the numerous fashion, glamour & science fiction magazines, including the cover of Star Trek Magazine #46 as Lt.  Uhura, with Mr. Spock & Dr. McCoy!

Mielikki:

We are also fans of the Monster High characters, not just the kemonomimi characters but we think they are all so delightful, including Miss Ghoulia Yelps, who graces the cover of Monster High magazine #3! She is the smart & sophisticated zombie girl with the lovely long Light Blue hair, the gorgeous Gray skin, the cute cat’s eye glasses, the good taste for the books, and the delightful dialect!

Nyoka:

Ahsoka Tano is our favoritest Star Wars character, who is brilliantly voiced by Ashley Eckstein in the Clone Wars animated series! She is not just upon the cover of Star Wars The Clone Wars Magazine #18, but she is also upon one of the inner posters! We hope that she might star in the next Star Wars movies too! That is all of our Miscellaneous Magazine Mini Mewsings, but nyow it is the time for

Our Favorite Recent Fish Photos & Appurrtizing Images!

Trini-chan:

Tara-chan:

Petra:

Larry Tople’s piscine painting of the Bass adorns the July cover of In-Fisherman, Jason Mathias’s illustration of the Groupurr graces the July / August cover of Florida Sport Fishing, and Guy Harvey’s Snook scene serves the cover of Guy Harvey Magazine vol. 3 #12, nya!

Hai, and the would welcome the captivating Cardinal Fish on the cover of Marine Habitat #15, the numcious Naso Tang is on the July / August cover of Coral, the delicious Discus, the mouth – watering Moor and the pleasing Pipe Fish on the July cover of Practical Fishkeeping, nya!

Yuriko:

I am purrticularly fond of the Awoway, Ricefish, and the Eel on the August cover of Tropical Fish Hobbyist, and nyow I am craving the Anago Tempurra that we brought, but we have to wait until the luau, nya! I am also anticipating the honey nummy treats that Mie-sensei brought, nya!

Mielikki:

Arigato! We certainly appreciate the delicious & nutritious food that we have all contributed to the luaus! However, now on the sadder and more serious topic, here is Becca to tell us about the magazine dedicated to the poor animals who are so hungry for the food, love and homes,

Nyow I wish to discuss another publication from here in North Carolina, the

Star Reach Companion!

Becca:

Star Reach Companion by Richard Arndt was published by TwoMorrows http://www.twomorrows.com which is on the mainland in Raleigh, the capital city! They publish the great books & magazines about the comics and art, such as Modern Masters, Kirby Collector, Back issue and Alter Ego! Last month we reviewed their books purrtaining to Matt Baker and Dan Spiegle! This mew book completely chronicles the history of the very influential, inspurrational independent anthology series of the 1970s! it is purriced $27.95 USA, not intended for the widdle kitties due to some of the mature content, and has the 192 pages, 32 of which are in the full color, with the articles, intermews, checklists, over 200 images and over 40 pages of stories! In chronicling the history of the famous publication, there is also the good analysis of the other similar publications that were the purredecessors, contempurraries & followers of Star Reach and its sister magazines!

The full color front cover art depicts Cody Starbuck by Howard Chayken! Purrhaps y’all have seen the splendid Catwoman pic he drew for us? The interior front cover art is by Frank Cirrocco, the husband of Lela Dowling who was our June Guest! The back cover art is the color painting of Elric by the late Jeffrey Catherine Jones, and on page 1 is the the sleepy dragon by Walt Simonson, who we met at last year’s Heroes Con! Those are just the sample taste of the beautiful bumpurr crop! After the publishing information & acknowledgements, the 1st chapter discuss the purrofound influence of Star Reach and compurrisons to the other significant comics of the 1970’s. Chapter 2 is the look at the purrior similar comics such as witzend, Reality, This Is Legend, Phase, Fantagor, Heritage, Imagination and Venture! Chapter 3 has the intermew with Star Reach’s founder / publisher / editor / author Mike Friedrich who discusses his work for Marvel, DC & Skywald!

Nextly is chapter 4’s thorough Star Reach checklist with all the credits! I want to read those Stephanie Starr stories by Mike Frierich Dick Giordano & Tom Orzechowski! Chapter 5 is the all-star collection of intermews with other famous contributors such as Lee Marrs, Steve Leialoha, Walt Simonson, Mike Vosburg and P. Craig Russell, with the good bit about the tales of Lori & Linda Lovecraft! Chapter 6 peeks at various other independent titles of the same late 70’s era, such as Hot Stuf, Orb, Grave Tales, Big Apple Comics, Future Day, Andromeda, Faerie Star, Dr. Wirtham’s Comics & Stories, Tesserae, and Charles Vess’s Horns of Efland! Chapter 7 discusses what became of many of the artists & authors, and Chapter 8 discusses the final days of the magazine, the rise of other titles such as Heavy Metal, Epic, Eclipse, Sabre, and independent comics publishers such as Eclipse, Pacific, First, Comico, Aardvark-Vanaheim, Fantagraphics, and so forth!

Following Chapter 8 is the extensive 39 page checklist of some of those early independent titles mentioned in Chapters 2 & 6! To top off this supurrb book is the comics section which is compurrised of “Starbuck” by Chayken, “A Tale of Sword and Sorcery” by Ed Hicks & Walt Simonson, “Marginal Incident: Prelude” by Steve Leialoha, “Vignette: A Soft and Gentle Rain” and “Encounter at the Crazy Cat Saloon” by Michael T. Gilbert, “I’m God” in color by Fabio Gasbarri & Cerebus the Aardvark’s creator Dave Sim, and for the delicious dessert is the complete 8 page color tale of “Siegfried and the Dragon” by P. Craig Russell! You know, ironically just a week ago I revisited the Sandman: Dream Hunters graphic novel by Neil Gaimin and P. Craig Russell, so it has been the good Russell art month! Ranging from the teensy size to the full-page pics, spurrinkled throughout the book are the many pics from Star Reach & other comics by other artists such as:

Neal Adams, Ken Barr, Steve Bissette, Vaughne Bode, John Bolton, Jeff Bonivert, Frank Brunner, Dav Cockrum & Terry Austin, Tim Conrad, Richard Corben, Steve Ditko, Will Eisner, Phil Foglio, Frank Frazetta, Robert Gould, Paul Gulacy, Don Heck, Marc Hempel, Los Bros Hernandez, Carmine Infantino & Murphy Anderson, Graham Ingles, Mike Kaluta, Jack Kirby, Roy Krenkle, Brendan Lynch, Ken Macklin, Masaichi Mukaide, Val Mayerik, Gray Morrow, George Perez, Wendy Pini, Paul Rivoche, Trina Robbins, Marshall Rogers, Mike Royer, Steve Rude, Michael Schwaberrow, Steve Skeates, Jim Starlin, Joe Staton, Ken Steacy, Jim Steranko, Dave Stevens, John Totleben, Matt Wagner, Al Williamson, Barry Windsor-Smith, Wally Wood, John Workman and Berni Wrightson! This very enlightening, sumptuous book is the joy to savor, which I give the high praise of the “A” grade! Nyow here is Petra to review another book full of the beautiful art,

Mark Schultz: Carbon!

Petra:

Hai, Mark Schultz is one of the most amazing artists & authors who is purrhaps most famous for his Xenozoic Tales or Cadillacs & Dinosaurs series starring Hannah, Jack and the many dinosaurs, nya! He also writes the Prince Valiant mewspapurr strip, we enjoyed his SubHuman mini-series, Conan book illustrations, and we are looking forward to his Storms at Sea novella, nya! The Carbon book is the latest collection of his magnificent pencil, ink, brush and bit of watercolor work including rough comps, purreliminary studies & finished renderings, with more than 50 images, mostly from the past 2 years and mostly unpublished until nyow, nya! The soft bound edition is purriced $24.95, it has the 56 pages, including the 4 gatefolds, and at 9″x12″ it is slightly larger than his five 8.5″ x 11″ Various Drawings books, which were also beautifully published by Flesk, nya! The hard bound limited signed & numbered edition is mentioned on the publishing page, but I am just reviewing the soft bound edition, nya!

It is the lavish treasure trove of the the jungle lords & ladies, Vikings & barbarians, space explorers & purrincesses, and the denizens of the Xenozoic Age, nya! Most of the characters are the beautiful, powerful, exotic femme fatales with the daggers, swords, spears, staves, shields, pistols, rifles, bow & arrows, accompanied by the leopards, lions, tigers, wolves, reptiles, crustaceans, cephalopods, winged creatures, men & many dinosaurs amidst the lush terrestrial & extraterrestrial land & seascapes, nya! The notes & steps are included for his drawings of the Xenoceratops, and I am purrtcularly fond of the Hannah pics, the Martian purrincess, the alien mermaid, “The Felix Guard”, “Pulp Pantera”, “Pulp Selene”, “Bagheera”, and the “Beyond The Known Forest, She Talks With Birds” gatefold, nya! I will give this book the high purraise and the grade of the “A” as in the Ankylosaurus which is fighting the T-Rex, nya! Nyow we will turn from the dinosaurs to the ponies in Mie-sensei’s review of

My Little Pony: Under the Sparkling Sea, nya!

Mielikki:

Arigato! As y’all might have guesed from Tara-chan’s enthused comic book reports, we’re fans of the My Little Pony characters, so it was such a wonderful treat to find this totally exquisite pony storybook by Mary Jane Begin, an award-winning illustrator & Professor at the Rhode island School of Design, fur shur! Published by Little, Brown and Company and priced at $15.99 USA / $17.50 Canada, the 9.25″ x 11.25″ slipcased hardcover greets us with the wonderful wraparound cover art to hint at the 40 fabulous full color pages within, plus the end papers and the double-sided 10.75″ x 17.5″ pull-out poster! So like, the tale begins in Ponyville at the Golden Oak Library, where Twilight Sparkle & Spike receive the invitation to the annual Aquastria Race event from the sea lion King Leo of the undersea kingdom of Aquastria! Twilight Sparkle casts the magick spell of gills & hoof fins upon Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Apple Jack & herself, but Spike isn’t keen about his diving helmet!

In the glorious realm of Aquastria they meet the King, Electra, Coral & Arrow, Nar Wally, Crabbit, various sea ponies, turtle & fishy friends! The Mane Six see the breathtaking fashions & sights such as Shell-like Nautilus Hall, Sea Grass Forest, and the cave! They encounter the cute widdle water weasel, fox fin, star mice, the jellyflies and the majestic Manta Hawk! They don’t just visit and partake of the race, but they have fun in helping with the farming, sports training & food preparations! Oh – my – stars, that fresh seaweed, salty treats, and the huge Pink kelp cake look sooo good! The text is simple & charming, the tale so endearing, and the art is like so lavishly beautiful! The book’s ornate pages include 8 full page pics and 13 two-page spreads, and the poster repeats the gorgeous jacket art and the grand awards ceremony scene! I will give Under the Sparkling Sea the highest praise and the two wings up, fur shur! So like, that is all of the print media mewsings, but now here is Mike to start our

Cinema, TV & DVD Mewsings,

with his review of the movie Pacific Rim (plot spoiler warning)!

Mike:

Thank you Mie-sensei! Pacific Rim features the undersea expedition & creatures too , but it’s not as joyful as the Aquastria tale! Dedicated to Ray Harryhausen and Ishiro Honda, Pacific Rim is a science fiction film set in the near future, when the nations unite to build manned giant mecha called jaegers to battle the gigantic destructive alien monsters called kaiju which have emerged from an undersea dimensional rift to invade the world! Unfortunately, as more coastal cities and jaegers are destroyed, the monsters get adaptive, bigger, and more frequent as the last stand is made in Hong Kong! It was directed & co-written by Guillermo del Toro whose Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy movies I’ve greatly enjoyed, and Hellboy’s Ron Perlman is in the cast as the amusing, flamboyant black marketeer Hannibal Chau! Starring as the main heroes are Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh and Rinko Kikuchi as Mako who co-pilot the older Gipsy Danger jaeger into combat to defend Hong Kong from the kaiju!

Both have survived the prior traumatic losses, such as her family in Tokyo, and his brother Yancy (Diego Klattenhoff). Mako is the rookie who proves her great skill, although their stern, enigmatic Cmdr. Pentecos (portrayed by Idris Elba) has private reasons why he is reluctant to let her co-pilot the mech! in the flashbacks, younger Mako is portrayed by Mana Ashida. Co-piloting the faster Striker Eureka jaeger from Australia are Raleigh’s rival Hansen who is portrayed by Robert Kazinsky, and his father who is portrayed by Max Martini. They have a bulldog too! Co-piloting the burly Cherno Alpha jaeger from Russia are Sasha (portrayed by Heather Doerksen) & Alexis (portrayed by Robert Maillet); and co-piloting the three-armed Crimson Typhoon are the Wei Tang triplets (portrayed by Charles, Lance & Mark Luu)! At their home base are mech technician Choi (Clifton Collins, Jr.), kaiju expert Dr. Geiszler (Charlie Day) and physicist Dr. Gottlieb (Burn Gorman, who portrayed Owen in Torchwood)!

There are numerous other jaegers of various marks and several kaiju of various types!  Most of the story is set in Hong Kong, but other locations include Sydney, Tokyo, San Francisco, Alaska and the ocean trench! I think the creature, mecha, prop, costume & set designs are magnificent, with very high production values. The abundant stunts & fight choreography are excellent, the lavish FX are superb, the sound & music are great, and everything is beautifully photographed, from the intimate character moments to the enormous spectacle of the battles! Fortunately there was only about one second of camera zoom (towards a swimming kaiju) that I didn’t care for! The movie is well edited, but I wish there could have been more of certain characters. Although Charlie Hunnam’s performance was not my favorite aspect of the film, in general I really liked the cast, especially Idris Elba, and most of all Rinko Kikuchi who almost steals the show!

Some of my favorite moments are Mako’s sparring match with Raleigh, Gipsy clobbering a kaiju with a ship, Mako drawing Gipsy’s sword, someone’s telltale nose bleed, and most of Hannibal’s banter! The tragic flashbacks of scared little Mako are quite sad & poignant, and every scene of the jaegers is a mecha & FX fan’s dream to cheer for! I saw the terrific 2D version, so I can’t comment on the quality of the 3D version. Pacific Rim is my favorite movie of 2013 thus far, and I will give it  an “A” as in Cherno Alpha! To make sure I correctly spelled some of the names from the movie’s end credits – which you should sit through to see an important extra scene – I referred to the Pacific Rim Wiki http://pacificrim.wikia.com, the movie’s Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Rim_(film), its entry at the Internet Movie Data Base http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Rim_(film), and I will recommend those sites for much more thorough information about this fantastic movie! Now, I’d like to discuss

The Wolverine (plot spoiler warning)!

Mike:

Wow, it was 13 years ago when we first saw Hugh Jackman as Logan (Wolverine) in the first X-Men movie! I think he is great in the role, I liked that movie, and I liked the sequel X2 even more; but I was disappointed by both X-Men 3 and by X-Men Origins: Wolverine, except for the great chemistry between Wolverine & Sabertooth. Although Logan only appeared in X-Men: First Class for one 24 second scene, I thought it was the best of the series. For our review of Origins: Wolverine see the May 2009 Mew, and for our review of First Class see the July 2011 Mew! Directed by James Mangold, whose reimagining of 3:10 to Yuma I rather liked, this Wolverine movie is set sometime after X-Men 3, mostly in Japan with much inspiration from the 1982 Wolverine mini-series which Yuriko mentioned earlier!

A miserable Logan has retreated to the Canadian wilderness to leave society behind, but he is haunted by nightmares of his friend Jean Grey, who he killed in X-Men 3. Things get more complicated, political, treacherous, romantic, honorable, violent and painful for him when he is summoned to Tokyo, where the wealthy industrialist benefactor Yashida whom he rescued in World War II is now dying, but proposes that if Logan could transfer his mutant super healing power, it would would be to their mutual benefit. Logan proves that he has the heart of a samurai that has fallen for Yashida’s grand daughter Mariko who he must protect. The state of Logan’s heart is also of interest to his new super bodyguard Yukio, who is like a sister to Mariko, because unfortunately, his heart and healing power becomes sabotaged by the mutant villainess known as Viper amidst a corporate, clan and political struggle involving the Yashida family and friends, the Yakuza, ninjas and super villains!

Meanwhile, Mariko’s beautiful heart is quite distraught, between her abusive fiance, her unkind father, her old flame Harada the ninja, and the Canadian guy with the adamantium claws! The entire cast is brilliant, including Rila Fukushima as the gorgeous, faithful, powerful Yukio, Tao Okamoto as beautiful, noble, pure hearted Mariko, Brian Tee as her abusive dishonest fiance Noburo,   Will Yun Lee as Harada, Svetlana Khodchenkova as the venomous villainess Viper, Hiroyuki Sanada as Mariko’s father Shingen. The elder Yashida is portrayed by Haruhiko Yamanouchi, and Ken Yamamura portrays him in the 1945 flashbacks. The Silver Samurai joins the party too, Famke Janssen reprises her role as Jean Grey to haunt Logan’s dreams, and there are a few other familiar faces, but that’s a surprise I’d rather not spoil, and I suggest that folks sit through the end credits for the very significant coda! There’s also a rather poignant opening scene involving a Grizzly Bear which is based upon the comics.

Most of the characters are from the comics, with a mix of faithful similarities and some big differences. Yukio has long Red hair in the movie compared to her cropped Black hair of the comics, but she still has the big grin as she gets into trouble and carves up her enemies! The coiffures, clothes, costumes, claws & katanas look great sets & locations all look great. Speaking of katanas, The Silver Samurai looks great too, but there are several major differences from the comics counterpart’s size, powers & identity. It is not explained how his own adamantium sword can hotly glow to cut through anything, including adamantium, although during Viper’s monologuing to Wolverine, she does make a veiled reference of being up to something metaphysical. She is very different from the comics version who is also known as Madam Hydra, and there’s no mention of the HYDRA criminal organization, but she does wear a nice Green costume which is reminiscent of the her attire in the comics!

Other things I liked are that any humor is genuinely witty and not silly, there are shocking surprises, great drama, design, performances, stunts, FX, sound & music, and high production values! I didn’t like The Wolverine as much as last year’s Avengers movie, but in spite of the awful shaky cam, I liked it much more than X-Men 3 or Origins! I think it’s been a pretty good summer for super hero movies, between Iron Man 3 (which we reviewed in the June Mew) and The Wolverine! I haven’t seen Man of Steel, but I’m looking forward to the next Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Avengers and X-Men movies. I hope that we might see more of Mariko & Yukio, and it would be great if they had their own movie! To make sure I correctly spelled some of the actors’ names, I referred to the movie’s Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wolverine_(film) and its entry at the Internet Movie Data Base http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430132. Now for more adventures in Japan, here’s Myayr to tell us about

LaGrange – The Flower of Rin-ne!

Mary Nyan:

LaGrange – The Flower of Rin-ne is the supurrb Japanese anime TV series about the high school girl who likes to help people and is recruited to pilot the mech against the alien invaders! It is the very beautiful, thrilling, joyful science fiction anime of such dazzling animation & FX, gorgeous scenery & designs, the great characters, voices & mewsic! While it is full of the charming, comedic & thrilling parts, there are also the more series, sad & poignant parts, and just the few dashes of the “fan service”! The main character is Madoka Kyouno of Kamogawa Girls School, who has the great peppy optimistic heroic attitude! She is the selfless leader of the school’s Jersey Club which is all about helping the others, but her heroism attains the mew level when Lan the alien transfer student recruits her to pilot the transforming Vox mech! The Voxes launch from the huge sea vessel Pharos of the Novumundos group which is the planetary alliance involved in the war betwixt the De Metrio and the Le Garite aliens!

Lan is the pilot of the stoic quiet purrsonality who is the bit naive of Earth customs but they become the dear friends. The triumvirate is completed by 3rd pilot Muginami, who is the very busty alien girl of the suspicious agenda and sad origin who becomes the dear friend too! Madoka’s catch phrase is “Perfect!’ with the circular gesture, and Lan has the cute “Woof” greeting! There is the very poignant apples scene with Muginami. The girls have the unique telepathic link to their Vox mechs, which they fly against the alien invader Ovid mechs. Madoka’s Green Aura Vox is named Midori, Lan’s Blue Rympha Vox is named Orca, and Muginami’s Orange Ignis Vox is named Hupo. They can transform from the plane mode to the humanoid robot mode with the various weapons! It is good to have the Vox mecha to purrotect the lovely city, but the aliens have the fearful ancient purrophecies about those mechs! Lan & Muginami move in with Madoka at the home of her uncle who owns the cafe!

The girls help out at the cafe which has the tasty burgers! Another recurring favorite treat in the anime is the energy drink. Madoka idolizes her over purrotective older cousin Yuko, who is the archaeologist studying the ancient alien artifacts & legends. Yoko and her best friend Miss Machiko the school teacher were purrior members of the Jersey Club along with Madoka’s late mother who we learn the bit about. We get to see numerous other classmates and their fun school clubs & activities! The Pharos crew are neat too, under the command of Mr. Tadokoro who is advised by Moid the alien observer and receives orders from Asteria, the girl of the elegant lolita style in charge of the Novumundus opurrations! One of my many favorite moments is the “Eat this and cheer up!” scene involving Asteria at the school’s festival! The relationship and agendas of the different alien groups is a bit complicated, especially when it comes to the guy quartet known as the KISS group, but they are not the rock group!

KISS is compurrised of friends Kirius, Izo, Array & Villaguilo of the mixed loyalties, who can be the antagonists but also purrvide the whimsical situations as the adjust to the Earth culture! Muginami’s tragic past involves Villaguilo, but I should not reveal much more of that! There is good variety of the plot, between the characters’ poignant development, the amewsing fun of the Kamogawa girls and the KISS guys, the thrilling aerial mecha combat, the mysterious legends & complicated political situation! The DVD is rated MA for explicit content, which I suppose is due to the combat violence and the few bits of the “fan service” of certain bathing nudity and a certain pool scene! The characters are so likable with much joyful charm & the great voices,, the tale is so fun & poignant, the designs and animation are dazzling, and the mewsic is so supurrb with the combination of the orchestral, rock & synth scores, the glorious “Try Unite!” song of the spectacular opening and the “Hello!” song of the peppy cute closing!

This 2 disk DVD distributed by Viz contains the 12 epurrsodes of the TV series’ first season, to total appurroximately 275 minutes of wonderful anime, plus the extras! It is purrsented in the letterboxed widescreen format of the 16×9 aspect ratio, with the spoken language choice of either the original Japanese  or the English dub in the Stereo 2.0 audio, with the optional English subtitles in the White Bold sans serif font with fine Black outline! Purrior to the very simple intuitive main menu screen is the front loaded 2 min 45 sec trailer for Neon Alley, and the extras on disk 2 include the clean version of the show’s opening & closing, the 9 pages of the purrduction art gallery, and the six comedic short specials that total appurroximately 15 minutes! The plots of the specials are the Kamogawa girls’ talk, the kendo sword technique, cleaning the swimming pool, the ghost hunt, the guy’s first love, and the guys playing video games! The disks are easy to remove from the inner trays of the plastic case!

There is no booklet included with the disks. The DVD’s front cover art depicts Madoka, Lan & Muginami purrched atop Midori mech in their sleek purretty pilot uniforms, and there is the good view of the city-like Pharos ship on the back art! Lagrange is also available on the Blu-Ray, but I am just reviewing the Region One NTSC standard DVD!  If I am ever able to go to Japan I would like to visit the city of Kamogawa which I have just read more about! I will give LaGrange – The Flower of Rin-ne the very high purraise, and for more information about LaGrange – The Flower of Rin-ne I will recommend the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagrange:_The_Flower_of_Rin-ne and the Anime News Network’s page http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=13290! I hope the 2nd season and the OVA of Lagrange will be released on the DVD here soon! An art book would be appurreciated too! On that wishful DVD note, I will hand The Mew to Petra to introduce

Our Semi-Annual DVD Wish List for Fall 2013!

Petra:

Arigato, nya! This is our semi-annual list for the titles that we hope will soon be commercially released in the US on Region One, NTSC Standard DVD- not just the Blu-Ray, nya! This includes animated & live – action TV shows & movies, webisodes, fan films, shorts, and the famous Super 8 films that we wish could be officially licensed & released, nya! I realize some of these are very unlikely, but the wish cannot hurt, nya! We would like these purrductions to be purrsented uncut & intact with the original music & songs and in anamorphic widescreen if applicable, nya.
