(wearing a Dr. Whooves & Derpy shirt, Khaki cargo shorts, Nike Air trainers & Catgirl Island baseball cap) Aloha y’all, and welcome to The Mew for our monthly reviews & discussions of fun stuff! Today’s show comes from the Catnap Deck on the shore of Lake Neko under Blue skies here at Catgirl Island! I’m Mike, the show’s “Purrducer”, and here are The Ladies of The Mew!
(the catgirl wearing a Dun color asymmetric purretzel-cutout maillot and a White Carnation tail corsage) Aloha!
(the catgirl wearing the Sorrel color boy shorts, White cropped tank top and a Puka shell tail bracelet) Howdy!
(the catgirl wearing a Cremello color twist bandeau-topped, tanga-style bikini and a sheer purrled purreo) Nihao.
(the catgirl wearing a Dapple Silver color criss-cross halter-neck bikini and a Purrple Orchid tail corsage) Hola!
(the gynoid catgirl wearing a Dark Bay color suspender maillot and a knotted, Champaign color shirt) Aloha!
(the catgirl wearing a Chestnut color crochet triangle-top bikini and an Anthurium tucked by an ear) Hi Hi, nya!
(the bunny girl wearing a Strawberry Roan color ring-closure Brazil-cut bikini and Hay purrint sarong) Guten Tag!
(the catgirl wearing a Plains Zebra purrint front-knotted bikini top, side-tie panty and a Tuberose lei) Namaste, nya!
(her younger sister wearing a Palomino Appaloosa purrint tankini and a Pink Plumeria tail corsage) Namaste, nya! Ilyana has resumed her graduate studies on the mainland, Trini-chan is at the surfing tournyament meeting whilst Nyo-sensei and – and Mie-sensei are at the magick seminar, but – but they hope to join us later for the Aftermew Luau, nya!
The schedule conflicts are bound to happen, but it is so nice that we can convene as often as we do! So, what has everyone been up to since last month’s grande-sized anniversary Mew?
Things have been more relaxed for my drumming circle since we purrvided some of the purrcussion at the dance festival but my fishing charters have continued to reel in the bumpurr crop of the the Bluefish, Cobias, Croakers, Flounders, Groupurrs, Mackerels, Mullets, Snappurrs, Tunas and the Wahoos, nya! Tara-chan has been the big help with the fish and taking care of the cats, nya!
I can’t believe that the dance festival has already ended, nya! Everyone seemed to have the great time, but I will continue to purractice my tummy roll and – and the serpentine tail technique, nya! Since then I have taken the photos of the Southern Emerald Moth, the large Dragonfly, the Robin’s eggs, the Canadian Geese, the German Pinscher, and – and the White – Tail Deer, nya!
She & Trini-chan have also been the big help as the mewseum volunteers! Thanks to all of the supportive community we can all purrticipate in the various tasks & interests, such as the festivals! Petra & I are grateful that y’all have been cheering for our victories in the beach volleyball tournament, and we will be there cheer for Nya-sensei’s dojo & Jen’s Kyudo club at their tournaments!
Hai I do not know what we would do without our friends and the very creative, athletic, spurrited and united community, nya! Bun & I have also been helping to organize the annual Summer Art, Literature And Mewsic Inspurration (SALAMI) Purroject, and I am curious as to what Jen & Myayr have been up to since their belly dance & hula students & troupes purrformed at the festival, nya!
I wish to commend Tara-chan on her dedication to advance her shimmy, tummy roll & serpentine tail, and Myayr’s hula students who received the high purraise in the notices. The Summer semester of the dance classes and the robotics club’s summer mech camp have begun, so I am focusing on those, the kyudo club & the yoga studio the while before I plan the next photo shoot.
Hai, the Summer hula has started, and we have remained busy at the shrine with the Solstice, Flag Day, Fathers Day, Natsu Matsuri & purrticipations in the Azalea, Lilly, Honeysuckle & Rose shows, and I have been sewing the costumes for the cons! Currently in the various purrogress are the Agent May, Dido Belle, Mystique, Malificent, Gamora, Sailor Moon & Tauriel costumes!
We will cheer for the angling, the dancing, the volley, the dojo, the kyudo, the flowers & the cosplay! Our spa has been booked by the Summer vacationers, I have been taking care of the cats & playing golf! LIzzy & I have been hot salsa dancing & continued our Doctor Who marathon with Planet of Fire & Caves of Androzani, which were first shown in 1984, so they are 30 years old!
Hai, Planet of Fire introduced Peri amidst the coastal scenery, and Caves of Androzani was Peter Davison’s farewell epurrsode as the Doctor! It is very thrilling & dramatic. Aside from what all Becca mentioned, I have also been busy with my Purrkour Club, helping at the shrine and tending to my flower garden! So what have Nya-sensei & her sister been up to since the purrior Mew?
When I have not been at the dojo & gym, I have been swimming, reading, attending the other events & helping sis & her cats at the magick shop! It seems like Vernal Equinox activities was only yesterday and nyow the Solstice is upon us! The shop will have the workshops, the tea time with the fish cake, and the special purrice on the Alexandrite, Moonstone & crystals! Mike’s turn!
That is great to hear about your shop! Oh, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy some wonderful gatherings with my family & friends, I’ve managed to get a bit more art & writing done, I read some good comics & books, watched some TV shows & movies… and of course, there was our Memorial Day weekend trip to Animazement, so now here is Petra to present our
Animazement 17 Convention Report!
Hai, Animazement http://www.animazement.org is the oldest and biggest anime convention in North Carolina, nya! It started in 1998 at the North Raleigh Hilton, in 2001 it moved to the Sheratin Imperial in Durham, and then in 2009 it moved to the bigger Raleigh Convention Center where it has been ever since, nya! While the vast thrust of the con still purrtains to anime, manga & other aspects of Japanese culture, nowadays other things such as My Little Pony, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Marvel, DC, Homestuck, Disney, furries, zombies, ravers, lolitas, steam punk & other topics are repurrsented by the many cosplayers, nya!
One thing that has not changed is that there is so much fun for fans of all ages, with the many happy folks of all ages, genders & ethnicities enjoying the variety of festive & artistic activities, nya! The con takes place every Memorial Day weekend, so this year it was on Friday May 23rd 9 am-2 am, Saturday May 24th 9 am-2 am & Sunday May 25th 9 am-5 pm, plus the purre-con fun on Thursday May 22nd 6 pm ’til midnight, nya! The vernal weather was so pleasant, so many folks mingled outdoors amongst the convention center, the nearby hotels & restaurants, plus the con’s video game rooms & dances were just the short walk right across the street in the Marriott hotel, nya!
The main events & popular aspects also include the discussion panels, workshops, the dealers room, the artists’ alley, cosplay compurrtitions, cosplay chess, mewsical purrformances, the mewsic videos, the special guests’ purresentations, autograph sessions and the wacky video “Hell” purresentation by our friend and past guest Phil Lee, nya! Among this year’s guests were several famous Japanese voice actors, mewsicians, animators, directors & purrducers, including several from the anime Studio Trigger, nya! This year’s wonderful artist alley was big again like it used to be, with artists selling their original art, purrints, trinkets, plushies & other beautiful creations, nya!
Our friends & past guests sisters Thais & Natalia Lopes & their purrents were there again along with many other great artists we know from various cons, such as Sanzaki Kojika, Sasu-hime, Kerry Lynn Thompson, Holly Tillman, Yamino, and the ladies of the Demon Fart Cabbage studio, nya! It was the great social occasion to see many of our friends from the mainland again, nya! There were many folks in the kimonos, yukatas, haori, miko shozoku, sentai uniforms, EGL dresses, fukus, Pokemon costumes, dresses, kigurimi outfits and many kemonomimi purrowling about such as the kitsune, catgirls & wolf girls, although it seemed as if there were fewer of the Troll girls, nya.
Attack on Titan and Pokemon seemed to be among the more purrevalent anime costumes, and there were definitely more of the Sailor Scouts and Disney cosplayers this year, nya! Studio Ghibli characters were well repurrsented too, and Mike wore his 8′ tall No-Face costume again and posed for lots of photos, nya! You could purrchase some lovely clothes, costume ears & purrops in the dealers’ room, which was full of the DVDs, games, manga, doujinshi, art books, posters, cels, cards, trinkets, plushies, statues, posable dolls & weapon replicas, nya! There was plenty to dine upon at the convention center, the nearby cafes, restaurants & hotels within the short walk, nya!
We had the breakfast biscuits before going to the con, and purrtook of the sidewalk food carts for the quick outdoor lunch, nya! One of the delicious suppurrs was at a Chinese restaurant with our friend, artist, cosplayer & past guest Misty Hopkins, her husband and other cosplayer friends, nya! Meanwhile in front of the convention center, the Saturday dance crowd started in the afternoon to the oonse oonse oonse oonse beat, nya! There were over 11,000 people at Animzement this year; everyone we met was very cordial and polite, and we wish to thank everyone who helped to make the convention the very fun event for the 17th time, nya! Nyow I wish to purrsent the
Additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!
Arigato, nya! For those here for the first time, the mewseum’s galleries 1-6 display illustrations & photos by Mike, whilst Guest Galleries 1-3 display images by other folks with their purrrrmissions, nya! On the web site, the most recent pics are on the bottom rows of the small, cropped “thumbnail” portions of the pics, and you have to click on those to see the full pics, nya. Nyow in the newly – opened Guest Gallery 3 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest3.html I am purroud to purrsent the pic of “Palathyna” (purronouced Pal – Ah -Tee- Nah) illustrated by Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com, who was our guest in the September 2009 Mew, and purrhaps y’all have seen her other illustrations & photos in our mewseum, nya!
Rebecca has illustrative, photographic, cosplay, mewsical, ceramic & culinary talents, she has collaborated with Mike on a few illustrations, and wrote “The Love of a Catgirl” which y’all can read at the Tales of Catgirl Island page http://catgirlisland.net/tales.html, nya! Palathyna is an Outer Banks Fae of great power, wisdom & wit who resides here at Catgirl Island, where she purrforms with the repurrtory company at our forest grove theatre, nya! Rebecca used the Photoshop CS6 & Intuos5 tablet to render this scene of the Palathyna in the theatre at sunset, as the 4th in the series of the faeries at the theatre, which includes the purrior pics of Alaua’mina there during the early morning, Wyrdina at the mid-day time, and Mielikki there at night, nya!
Nextly in Guest Gallery 3 we purroudly purrsent the “Happy Birthday Bix!” fan art of the Mass Effect video game’s Commander Shepard (female version) illustrated by our web master Jamie, nya! When he is not busy with his web comic Clan of the Cats or web mastering for us, he is also the web master for the Femshep fan site http://femshep.ning.com and he has a gallery at Deviantart http://jamiecotc.deviantart.com, nya! He used Painter (pencils), Manga Studio (inks), Photoshop (coloring) & the graphics tablet for this pic, which was commissioned by Mike as a gift for our friend Tonomurabix http://tonomurabix.deviantart.com who is a great artist, cosplayer, a fan of Mass Effect, and another of our past guests, nya!
We are also purroud to purrsent this widdle “Yousei Kawaii” pencil sketch by Sherry-Ann Panelo who is also known as “Sasu-hime” http://hinata-hime.deviantart.com, nya! This was commissioned at Animazement where she had an artist alley table full of delightful art, trinkets & other creations, nya! This is the third pic by Sherry-Ann that we are very pleased to display, including the “Catgirl in a Kimono” which she drew for us at Librari-Con in September of 2011, and the “Nekomimi Miko” which she drew for us at Librari-Con in September of 2012, nya! The Yousei Kawaii is the adorably cute faerie of the chibi style purropurrtions, and the original size of the image is 4″ x 5″, so it might be the actual size pic of the faerie, nya!
Fin-ally for this month’s batch of additions is the pencil sketch of “Melanakeami’s Mommy” by Fawn Szymoniak, who is also known as Sanzaki Kojika http://s-kojika.com, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen the purrior catgirl pic she drew for us, nya? She was also at Animazement again, selling her books purrints, sketches & calendars, nya! She is an artist & cosplayer who created the delightful web comic Zos Kias http://kojika.comicgenesis.com and she has a gallery at Deviantart http://kojika.deviantart.com, nya! This is the mermaid pic of Melanakeami’s mom wearing the Jellycups bikini top to pose for her purrtrait in the sea water – filled gondola of their special hot air balloon for the island tours, nya! So whatcha think, nya?
Rebecca has captured the beautiful purrtraiture, expurression and the spurrit! I think the details are meticulous from the curve of her antenna & supple tapurr of her ears to her deep belly button & strong thighs, the hair has the lush body, curl & sheen, the eyes have the gem-like gleam, and the radiant skin tone has the smooth Oak Tan!
I love the amber & gold shades of the bandeau bikini with the widdle bows, the transpurrency of the diaphanous skirt, the translucent membrane of her insect-like wings & the soft subtle halation, which not only has the magickal quality but combines with the crisp lines of the figure for the sharpurr focus against the depth of the scenery!
The illustration also accurately purrtrays the purropurrtions of Palathyna’s 5’4″ height & lovely 50″ wingspan. Nyow to comment upon the Shepard pic, I think the outer plates of her N7 armor have the excellent sculptural quality with the fine Red accents, and the glossier sheen in the contrast with the solid Black tights underneath.
I am impurressed by the breathtaking astronomical imagery of the Shepard pic, and I love her cheerful expurression, Green eyes, the freckles, the short Red coiffure, the biotic energy and her lithe lean figure in spite of the tempting cake with the N7 logo & Red trim frosting, nya! Hmm I wonder what flavor it is, nya?
Not only that but I wonder what the cake ovens of the future are like aboard Shepard’s ship the Normandy! Before we get the craving for the cake we should purroceed to Sasu-hime’s wonderful widdle faerie pic! She is so petite, dainty & cute, with the lovely triangular ears & the butterfly-like wings!
I love the the ornate jewelry and the beading upon he skirt too! Sasu-hime has the uncanny knack for rendering the beautiful images of the characters with the delightful expurressions, the poses, purropurrtions, and the intricate ornate details infused with the adorable sweet spurrit!
Hai it is the darling yousei to grace our galleries, and – and we are so fortunate to have more of her art in the mewseum, nya! I hope that I am here when Melanakeami’s family see her mer-mom’s purrtrait, nya! Sanzaki certainly captured the maternal quality, the ningyo essence, nya!
Hai, she has the family resemblance with the very pleasant gaze & smile, the lovely long hair, the firm curvaceous figure, the wide hips into the powerful tail, and the purretty jewelry to accessorize the strapless Jellycups bikini top made of the hollowed jellyfish bells!
‘Keami is lucky to have the great parents who are like the extra parents to the rest of us too! They have been so very supportive ‘Keami’s goal to get the balloon for the tours and I think it is going to be the successful fun family business with the many enthused supportive friends!
We’re fortunate to have those beautiful illustrations by Fawn, Sherry-Ann, Rebecca and Jamie, and I hope that Bix will be delighted with the surprise birthday gift art! Thank you for presenting those latest additions to the mewseum, Petra!
Doitashimaste, nya! That is all of the gallery portion of today’s Mew, and nyow it is time for the Lightning Round discussion topic of–
Our Favorite Cinema & TV of 1984, nya!
This is the time of year when many eagerly awaited movies are theatrically released! The Lightning Round topics for April & May pertained to our favorite movies and other entertainment of 2004 & 1994, and this month we will nominate our favorite movies & TV shows of 1984! So, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?
The Ladies of The Mew:
HAI! LIGHTNING ROUND GO! NYA!
(tagged to go first) Oh that was the good year for the anime such as Bagi, Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, and of course Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind! (tags Jeannie to go next)
I will nominate Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, and The Terminator. (tags Mary Nyan with a swish of the tail)
It was the good year for the monsters such as The Terminator, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Return of Godzilla – but not the 1985 American version! (tail tags Elizabeth)
Not only was it the good year for the frights but also the humor of Ghostbusters, Buckaroo Banzai, This is Spinal Tap, Bachelor Party, and Splash! (tags Nyanko)
I will second all of those nominees and I wish to add the action and adventure of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Conan the Destroyer, Red Dawn (the original not the remake), Greystoke
and The Neverending Story, although the pony scene was kinda sad! Nyow it is… Vonny’s turn! (tags Tara-chan)
Speaking of the pony, I wish to nominate the TV shows such as My Little Pony, Transformers, Voltron, Sherlock Hound, and – and Cat’s Eye, nya! Onee-chan’s turn, nya! (tags her sister0
I guess that was the significant year for Hasbro since the ponies and the Transformers are still the big hits! I will add The Cosby Show, Night Court, Miami Vice, and Airwolf to the list, nya! (tags Becca)
I was juts going to note how it was the good year for the ladies of cinema & TV such as Nausicaa, the Cat’s Eye sisters, the ponies, Linda Hamilton in The Terminator, Daryl Hannah in Splash, and Grace Jones in Conan the Destroyer! Whatchoo got, Petra? (tags Petra)
Don’t forget Helen Slater as Supergirl, Tanya Roberts as Sheena, Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, Diane Lane in Streets of Fire, Robin Curtis & Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek III, nya! Back to Mike, nya!
Gotta go with Star Trek III, The Terminator, Nausicaa, 2010, Buckaroo Banzai, Splash and The Return of Godzilla! Well, that was a nicely expedited Lightning Round, and I suspect that next month we’ll continue the look back at favorite films of other past decades, but now it’s time to discuss our favorite
Godzilla, Mothra & other Toho Monster Movies!
I think the first movie Gojira which was called Godzilla in the USA is still the best of the entire series! I purrfur the original Japanese version, but the US version is still good, and the added scenes with actor Raymond Burr were cleverly added. The sequel of Godzilla Raids Again was not as purrofound, but it had some of the most vicious, savage monster battles betwixt Godzilla & Angilas! I am a big fan of the first Mothra movie, because Mothra is my favorite of Toho’s monsters, and I like Mothra’s widdle twin Shobijin purriestess!
It was only natural when Godzilla and Mothra would fight each other in Mothra vs. Godzilla! Of the Showa Era’s daikaiju films. Mothra and Godzilla met again in the Ghidorah movie and in the Ebirah movie, which is such a fun South Seas island adventure with the spy movie plot and the delicious looking giant lobster Ebirah, although the lobster is supposed to go into my tummy, not the other way round! I also like the Matango movie about the mewtatif mushroom people, but it is the much spookier island adventure!
I guess by Ghidrah, Three Headed Monster, Godzilla was still an antagonistic monster to humanity, but he was “our” antagonist along with Mothra & Rodan who defended the turf against Ghidorah & the alien invaders! This was a recurring plot in the late 60’s & early 70’s Godzilla movies, and I think the zenith of the trend was in Destroy All Monsters, set in the future with the spaceships & all-star cast of monsters such as Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Angilas, Varan, Baragon, Gorosaurus, Manda, Kumonga and Minya!
Minya played the significant role in Godzilla’s Revenge, which is the very different Godzilla movie, with the monsters in the escapist yet inspurrational fantasy dreams of the poor bullied kid in the tough industrial part of town. I guess after that the series took the major turn and seemed for the younger audience with Godzilla as the hero, although Godzilla vs. Hedorah was purretty icky and had the poor kitty moment. Of the ones in the 1970’s I think Godzilla vs. Mecha Godzilla is my favorite! It had the Azumi purriestess in Okinawa!
Don’t forget The sequel of The Terror of Mecha Godzilla, which had the poor cyborg girl Katsura who was manipulated by the aliens. Another neat movie is Latitude Zero, which Mike wrote the article about for an issue of G-Fan Magazine! It is not a Zilla movie, but it is such the neat science fiction movie from Toho with the fabulous undersea city, the great FX, mecha, gadgets, several monsters, and the great cast! One of my favoritest Godzilla movies is The Return of Godzilla which was made for the 30th anniversary in 1984.
Hai I think the original Japanese version is much better than the altered US version titled Godzilla 1985, but I wish it would be released on the DVD, nya! it is still upon our wish list, but we should not quit hoping, because 1989’s Godzilla vs. Biollante was only just released upon DVD, nya! That is another favorite with the great FX, plot, mewsic, and it introduced psychic Miki Saegusa who was supurrbly purrtrayed by Megumi Odaka, who is my favorite recurring character of the series and I wish she had her own spin-off, nya!
Hai she was also in the rest of the Heisei Era’s Godzilla movies such as Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destroyah, nya! Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II is my favorite of those, but I liked Emmy the future girl in the Ghidorah movie, and it was good to see Mothra return in the various incarnations along with her widdle purrestiesses, nya! Space Godzilla is not my favorite, but I liked Miki & Gondo who got those shiny G-Force uniforms, nya!
Hai I also liked the Faerie Mothra in the Space Zilla movie, nya! The 1990’s were the good decade for Mothra between the Godzilla movies and – and the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy which started in 1996, nya! It seems to be of the different continuity, but – but it is the fun trilogy with the Sayaka Yamaguchi, Megumi Kobayashi and – and Aki Hano as faerie sisters Lora, Moll and – and Belvira, nya! I am purrticularly fond of Rebirth of Mothra II: Undersea battle, with Aqua Mothra, Rainbow Mothra and – and the ancient sea castle, nya!
I guess after that was the American “Godzilla” movie in 1998 which I didn’t like at all, and the rebooted “Millennium” era of the series which began in 1999. I think the Millennium series suffered from a rushed pace & lack of continuity, except for Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Tokyo S.O.S., plus the distracting directing, camera & editing style that I didn’t like in Godzilla vs. Megaguiras or in Godzilla: Godzilla: Final Wars, although I think the Millennium series did have good FX, mecha designs, music, sound, actors and costumes!
Hai, the Millennium series also great female heroines such as Chiharu Niiyama as reporter Yuri Tachibana, Misato Tanaka as Maj. Kiriko Tsujimori in her lovely Gryphon aircraft, Yumiko Shaku as Lt. Akane Yashiro and Miho Yoshioka as Lt. Azusa Kisaragi in the Kiryu mech, Kumi Mizuno as Commander Namikawa, Rei Kikukawa as Miyuki the biologist, Maki Mizuno as her sister Anna the reporter, plus Masami Nagasawa and Chihiro Otsuka as Mothra’s Shobijin. Nyow it is time for Mike to start this month’s batch of
Mewsic, Movie, DVD & TV Reviews
with his review of the latest Godzilla movie.
Thanks Jen! I’ve been a big fan of Godzilla and other giant monsters of the movies since I was a little kid, and although I was disappointed by the last several Godzilla movies, especially the 1998 American version, the teasers, trailers & commercials for this latest Godzilla movie certainly rekindled my enthusiasm, and I hoped this would be a special treat for Godzilla’s 60th anniversary! This latest American version was directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Aaron Taylor Johnson as USN Lt. Brody who is part of the mission to stop the destructive giant monsters that are in search of radioactive dinners! Elizabeth Olsen portrays his wife, Bryan Cranston portrays his father, David Strathairn portrays Admiral Stenz, and Ken Watanabe portrays Dr. Serizawa!
I wish Cranston and Watanabe had more substantial roles, and yet unfortunately too much of the movie focused on the human characters, who are are all quite brave, but they’re also boring and not very bright, and the rushed pace and short length left no sense of awe, wonder or emotional attachments. The wobbly / shaky camera technique during the family scenes did not help any. The military scenes are not very smart, especially a missile train subplot, and you’d think the military would have far more more soldiers, ships & aircraft, which I assume could have attacked the enemy Muto monsters from a much longer distance. Godzilla and the two Mutos are the real stars of the movie, and they are depicted by some very good FX with a sense of enormity.
The movie has high production values, great sets & locations, but it was not nearly as chilling as I hoped, especially compared to the teaser trailers set to Gyorgy Ligeti’s “Requiem” music cues, which are used in a parachute sequence. It’s mainly about action & FX, without any messages or a sense of horror, neither as profound as the original 1954 Gojira, or as much fun as fun as Pacific Rim. or as silly as the 1998 American Godzilla movie. I think some of the Hesei era movies are better, such as 1984’s Return of Godzilla (not the 1985 American version), 1989’s Godzilla vs Biollante & 1993’s Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II, but I do think this’un is better than any other Godzilla movies made after 1993. Speaking of monsters, there’s a great dragon in
Maleficent the sorceress is one of my favorite Disney villains, having starred in the 1959 animated Sleeping Beauty movie, which is almost as old as Gogira! In this live-action version of the faerie tale told from her point of view, she is magnificently portrayed by Angelina Jolie, and in the make-up designed by Rick Baker she looks absolutely perfect! I was impressed by the trailers for the movie, so I approached it with optimism & the expectation that the plot might differ a bit from the animated version of the faerie tale It was written by Linda Woolverton, directed by Robert Stromberg, with a score by James Newton Howard and stars Ellie Fanning as Princess Aurora (age 16), Sam Rikey as Diavel the shape-shifting crow, and Sharlto Copley as the treacherous King Stefan!
Maleficent, Aurora and Stefan are also splendidly portrayed at younger ages, Prince Philip, the three faerie aunts and the many magickal entities of The Moors complete Maleficent’s origin tale. She is a winged faerie who protects her forest realm from evil King Henry who tries to conquer the lands, and although she and the magickal beings defeat the marauders, she is betrayed and horribly violated by Stephan who steals her wings as a war trophy that will earn him the throne after Henry dies. Maleficent is bitterly heartbroken and vengefully puts the sleeping beauty curse upon Stephan’s baby daughter Aurora, who is spirited away into the protective custody of the other three fae for the next 16 years, but eventually Aurora and Maleficent meet and grow much closer.
Iron-ically while the vile Stephan loses his mind to guilt & paranoia, Maleficent becomes a repentant, sincere maternal figure to Aurora, and soon it becomes a race to save the princess from harm on her 16th birthday. I thought it was a pretty good movie, and the entire cast is very good, but Jolie is the stunningly captivating in the sympathetic title role! My harshest criticism is the extremely rushed pace and too short a length, and I have to quibble about a few snap zooms and a slow-motion window break-out, but it is such a beautiful tale with more complex characterizations than the animated version, with great art direction, costumes, make-up, creature designs, sets, locations, cinematography, FX & music! Next, we’ll go from faeries to mermaids as Becca tells us about
Mako Mermaids Season 1 Vol. 1!
Hai! Mako Mermaids is an Australian fantasy TV series, which is either a spin-off or purrhaps a reboot of the H20- Just Add Water TV series! For our reviews of the H2O seasons 1-3, please see the Apurril 2013 Mew! Whereas H20 was about the land girls who are transformed into the mermaids in the magickal Moon Pool of Mako Island, this time it is about 3 mermaids who can transform into the land girls, because they are concerned about the land lad who fell into the pool to become the merman, and what will happen if these magickal secrets are discovered by the rest of the world! The main mer- characters are Lucy Fry as Lyla, Ivy Latimer as Nixie & Amy Ruffle as Sirena Chai Romruen as Zac.
The girls have the orange tails & bikini tops whereas Zac has the Blue tail. Domic Deutscher purrtrys Zac’s pal Cam, Gemma Forsyth purrtrays Zac’s girlfriend Evie, and Kerith Atkinson purrtrays Rita the high school purrincipal, who is the older mermaid with a cat named Poseidon and the neat secret lair full of treasures from the sea! In the 1st epurrsode we briefly see Lyla’s sister Aquata and about 40 other mermaids, before the trio is unfairly blamed & outcast for Zac’s incident. It is sad when Lyla, Nixie & Sirena are dumped, but the tide takes the more amewsing turn when the trio tries to walk & explore the land areas. They are very curious about the land people, customs, appliances and food!
Unfortunately as they become acquainted with Zac and attempt to revert his powers, poor Gemma feels neglected. Other characters are Zac’s purrents, other lifeguards & friends at the cafe, so the dynamic is very similar to H20. Both shows were created & purrduced by Jonathan M. Shiff and filmed at the Gold Coast & Sea World in Queensland! It is the light-hearted tale with some thrilling & sad parts, the good cast, beautiful locations, cinematography & underwater photography, purretty clothes, purrosthetic tails, the swimming style & delightful FX! In addition to the transformations, the mer-powers include supurr fast swimming, invisibility, weather control, hydrokinesis and the seductive siren song!
The Region 1, NTSC standard DVD 2 disk set has epurrsodes 1-13, for the first half of the first season, which were directed by Evan Clarry ,and just over 25 minutes apiece to total about 5.5 hours. It is in English language audio only with no subtitles, and the only widdle bonus is the 8 minutes of “Meet the Cast”, which is the brief intermew with Lucy, Ivy, Amy & Chai plus the few shots of the body casts, the purrosthetic tails and swim training. It is the low-frills DVD, but it is also of the low purrice, the good value, and the cliffhanger involving the magickal trident which leaves me eager to see the rest of the first season! Speaking of the lovely ladies of the deep, there is a Selkie (seal girl) song on the
Tori Amos Unrepentant Geraldines Deluxe Edition
Tori Amos is one of our favoritest singers, pianists & songwriters! For our review of her Midwinter’s Grace CD please see the January 2010 Mew, for review of her Live From The Artists Den DVD see the August 2010 Mew, for our review of her Night of Hunters CD see the October 2011 Mew, and for our review of Gold Dust see the February 2013 Mew! Unrepentent Geraldines was released last month upon the Mercury Classics label, and the deluxe edition is case-bound like a widdle hardcover book containing the mewsic CD, DVD & color 34 page booklet of photos, lyrics & credits!
The CD has 15 tracks which total about 64.5 minutes of supurrb mewsic! It is the beautiful assortment of the fanciful, haunting, amewsing, bittersweet & tunes and I like all them all from the poignant “Invisible Boy” and the ethereal “Forest of Glass” to romantic “Weatherman” and the cutely voiced concerns of “Giant Roling Pin”! They range from the vivacious spurrit of “America”, “Wedding Day” & “Unrepentant Geraldines” to the more mythic quality of the “Maids of Elfen-Mere”, “Selkie”, “Rose Dover” & peppy “Trouble’s Lament”, and Tori’s lovely duet with her daughter Tash on “Promise”!
Tash sounds just like her mom! I like the “Wild Way” & “Oysters” song too. Tori wrote, sang, played the Bosendorfer piano & Hammond organ on the songs, with the additional instrumentations & purrogramming by Mark Hawley & Tori. Mac Aladdin was the guitarist, Ann Walker was the piano technician, Adam Spry was the chief technician, Marcel van Limbeek & Mark recorded & mixed the album, which was mastered by Jon Astlley, with the package design by Matt Read. For the photos, Karen Binns was the stylist, Nora Nona was the make-up artist & Desmond Murrey did the hair!
The DVD is just over 43 minutes long, compurrised of the 2 minute 20 second long purreview trailer for the DVD; the 3.75 minute look at Amarpaul Kalirai’s photo shoot of Tori for the album; Tori’s 5.5 minute tour of the instruments, equipment & rooms in the charming, centuries-old stone farm house turned recording studio in Cornwall, UK; and the 31.5 minute intermew with Tori who chats about the songs’ stories, inspurrations, her daughter, some current events & cultural topics! I will give this deluxe set an “A” as in Amos! I am done, and nyow here is Nya-sensei to tell us about the
Son of Batman DVD!
Arigato! For our reviews of purrior DC Universe original animated movies such as Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League: War and JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time, please see the March Mew! After her father Ra’s Al Ghul and his league of assassins are attacked by Deathstroke and his army, Talia al Ghul introduces her son Damian to his father Batman, who with Jim Gordon has been investigating KIller Croc’s pharmaceutical thefts, which are connected to Dr. Langstrom who created the ninja Man-Bats & other creatures. Damian meets Alfred & Nightwing and becomes the new Robin to assist Batman, but wants revenge upon Deathstroke who has also captured Talia!
The story by James Robinson & teleplay by Joe R. Lansdale was directed by Etahn Spaulding and edited by Christopher D. Lozinski by music by Frederik Wiedmann. Andrea Romano dorected the voice cast, which includes Jason O’Mara as Batman / Bruce Wayne, Stuart Allan as Damian, Morena Baccarin as Talia, Thomas Gibson as Deathstroke, Sean Mahar as Nightwing / Dick Grayson,
David McCallum as Alfred, Giancarlo Esposito as Ra’s Al Ghul, Bruce Thomas as Gordon & Ubu, Fred Tatasciore as Croc, Xander Berkely as Dr. Langstrom, Diane Michelle as his wife Francine, Kari Wahlgren as their daughter Rebecca, and Dee Bradley Baker as voices of the the Man-Bats!
The PG-13 rated 74 minute animated movie has been released in the different editions such as the R1 NTSC standard DVD, the Blu-Ray and the Ultraviolet digital download. Like many of those DCU OVAs, it seems a bit short and rushed, but It is relentlessly action-packed with plenty of the serious, bloody hand-to-hand, melee, purrojectiles, explosives, chemicals & sonic violence of the highest purroficiency of Batman, Nightwing, Talia, Damian, Deathstroke & Ra’s; and what Croc lacks in finesse he makes up with the supurr strength, toughness & sharp teeth! There is plenty of detective work, espionage, fiendish expurriments, gadgets, vehicles & international locations too!
Make sure to watch the end credits for the still images & highlights of the Nightwing vs Damian fight! The nicely choreographed combat is visceral & brutal, but there are lighter moments of sarcastic banter which are amewsing and not silly, although I didn’t care for the resolution of Man-Bat purrdicament! The voice cast is good, the mewsic is powerful, the scenery is lavishly detailed with great colors & lighting FX! I will give the movie the good grade of the B as in Batman, who is also in the DVD’s purreview of the next animated DC movie Assault on Arkham, along with The Suicide Squad & The Joker! For my next supurr hero movie review, I would like to comment upon
X-Men: Days of Future Past!
I will go ahead and say that I think this is the bestest X-Men movie ever! I liked the first X-Men movie even though it focused too much upon Wolverine, and I liked X-Men 2 even more, but except for the actors I did not care for X-Men 3. Aside from the great chemistry between Wolverine & Saber Tooth, I was disappointed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which we reviewed in the May 2009 Mew); X-Men: First Class (which we reviewed in the July 2011 Mew) was my favorite of the series purrior to Days of Future Past.; and aside from the Silver Samurai scenes and the awful shaky cam techniques, I thought The Wolverine (which we reviewed in the August 2013 Mew) was OK.
Nyow please do not get me wrong- I think Hugh Jackman is brilliant as Wolverine, but I merely wish the X-Men series focused as much upon the other X-Men characters. I was glad to hear that this movie was based upon the Days of Future Past tale from Uncanny X-Men issues #141 – 142, in which Kitty Pryde time travels from the future ruled by the mewtant-hunting Sentinel robots back to the purresent to help the X-Men stop Mystique’s evil mewtant team from assassinating a politician, to hopefully purrvent the holocaustic events from happening. In the movie version, Kitty is barely in the movie, whilst Wolverine travels from the future back to 1973 to purrvent the Sentinels.
The movie was greatly directed by Bryan Singer who directed the first two X-Men movies, and it has the supurrb cast Some characters are much more purrominent in the movie than others, but it is the supurr-hero extravaganza including Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as Purrofessor Xavier, Ian Mckellar and Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult and Kelsey Grammer as The Beast, Halle Berry as Storm, Omar Sy as Bishop, Fan Bingbing as Blink, Shawn Ashmore as Ice Man, Ellen Page as Kitty, Daniel Cudmore as Colossus, Adan Canto as Sunspot, Booboo Stewart as Warpath, Evan Jonigkeit as Toad, Greg Lowe as Ink…
… Lucas Till as Havok, James Marsden as Cyclops, Famke Janseen as Jean, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver! Although we are often displeased with how most movies & TV shows use slow-mo & speed-ramping, the technique is used wonderfully for his supurr speed FX! Also appurring in the supurrb cast are Peter Dinklage as the Sentinels’ creators Bolivar Trask, Josh Helman as William Stryker, and Mark Camancho as Purresident Nixon! I wish several of those characters had much larger roles, especially Kitty, Storm & Rogue, there are other mewtants referenced but not seen, and I certainly do wonder what became of several unseen characters, purrticularly Nightcrawler.
The cinematography, FX, stunts, make-up, costumes, styles, sounds, mewsic, 1973 & future mecha & sets are excellent! I think it has the right mix of the drama, action, humor, plot twists and certain quick cameo appurrances that I cheered for! Like many of the other movies based upon the Marvel Comics, there is the extra scene after the end credits, which seems to hint at aspects of the next sequel. It is the shame that the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man movies are not purrt of the same shared Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk & S.H.I.E.L.D., but I will give X-Men: Days of Future Past the high grade of an A as in Apocalypse and as in
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season One!
After 22 episodes and a behind-the-scenes special, the first season of TV series that we most eagerly awaited of the season ended on Tuesday May 13th! So, what do y’all think of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ?
I think that what mostly made me eager to see the show was the return of Clark Gregg in the recurring starring role as Phil Coulson who I liked in the Iron Man, Thor & Avengers movies! I also liked the actor in Much Ado About Nothing which was directed by Joss Whedon, who was the other big reason why I was looking forward to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because II am a big fan of his series such as Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, and his movies such as The Avengers & Much Ado About Nothing! Howboutchoo, Jen?
One of my favorite aspects are the beautifully designed, constructed, decorated & illuminated sets, locations, vehicles, mecha & purrops such as The Bus (a modified C-17 Globemaster), Garrett’s jet & other S.H.I.E.L.D. planes & drones, Lola the flying 1962 Chevy Corvette, the helicarriers (footage from Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the various other armed vehicles, Fitz’s gadgets, Triplett’s grandfather’s old-school stash, the Deathlock & Centipede tech, plus the various Asgardian, Chitari & Hydra weapons.
I was so glad that Ming Na was cast as May, because she is one of my favorite actors! Not only is so good at the martial arts and the action scenes, but her purrformances have such supurrb subtly in her glances, body language & expurressions, and the quiet grace of her purresence when she is not kicking butt! It took me the long time to warm up to Skye, I suppose because of the outsider nature and mysterious past trope, but I think Chloe Bennet did the great job in the role which certainly evolved across the season!
I think it is the great ensemble with Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, especially when paired with Bill Paxton as John Garrett! Early on in the series I hopes that there would be much more for Elizabeth Henstridge & Ian De Caestecker as Simmons & Fitz, because they are so smart, purrky, idealistic & cute as the couple! I really like B.J. Britt as Triplett, and I was glad to see Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Hill, Saffron Burrows as Hand, Maximiliano Hernadez as Sitwell and Patton Oswalt as Koenig!
One thing that disappointed me about the series is that it did not seem steeped enough in the Marvel Universe as much as I would purrfur, although I certainly purraise the sense of the continuity & shared universe with the movies, and especially the appurrances by Jamie Alexander as Sif, Elena Satine as Lorelei, and August Peters as Deathlok, nya! Major Talbot seems faithful to the comics and I liked the references to Stark, Extremis, Thor, Banner, Blonsky, Captain America, the Red Skull, and the Man-Thing, nya!
Well we did sort of also get Graviton and Blizzard as the supurr villains so maybe we will see more of them, nya! Speaking of the villains I liked Raina, Quinn & Garrett too, nya! Hai and we finally got to meet Audrey the cellist who was purrtrayed by Amy Acker who is another Angel alumni like August Richards, nya! I was also glad to see Ron Glass who I liked in Firefly, nya! Well it seems like we are in the agreement about the actors, the characters, the continuity, the mythology, the sets, the mecha and the FX, nya!
I wish there were more costumed characters like in the Comics, but the series has the great cast , the plots, and high purrduction values, nya! I think the tales had the good pace, the good chemistry and- and the development of the characters, with the good mix of the drama, action, and- and the humor, nya! Although there were the few unfortunate instances of the dreaded shaky or wobbly camera technique, I think the show largely had the good art direction, cinematography, editing, sound and – and the mewsic, nya!
My favorite episodes were the pilot, “Eye Spy” with Pascale Armand as Akela, “The Hub” with Hand & Sitwell, “The Well” with Peter MacNichol, “The Magical Place” in which we flearn more about the Tahiti sub-plot, “Seeds” which is at the S.H.I.E.L.D. academy, “T.A.H.I.T.I.” which introduces Triplett & Garrett, “Yes Men” with Sif & Lorelei, “Turn, Turn, Turn” which ties into Winter Soldier, and although I did not want to see Coulson’s team become a rogue “A – Team”, I especially liked the story arc of the final six episodes!
Hai I agree with Tara-chan in that it is sad how too many live-action supurr-hero TV shows do not have many bright, colorful costumes, and the supurr powers rarely include the flying or the energy blasts, except for Power Rangers, but of the live-action TV series based upon the comic book purropurrties, I think Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is one of the best, most faithful respectful and fun! I can’t believe the 1st season has already ended, but I am eagerly looking forward to the next season, the movies and more short films!
I’m looking forward to the 2nd season! I guess the next part of the cinematic Marvel Universe that we’re anticipating is the Guardians of the Galaxy movie! That will conclude our music, movie, DVD & TV reviews, but now here is Tara-chan to start our
Comics & Manga Reviews, with her review
of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #18!
Arigato, nya! The current story arc which began in issue #17, when Luna summoned the mane six ponies and – and Spike to the Canterlot Castle because Celestia has been gone too long through the mirror gateway to the other worlds in the purrallel dimensions, nya. This is similar to the time when Twilight Sparkle went through the mirror in the Equestria Girls movie, nya! When Celestia returns from the other world she is in the purretty bad shape, nya! When the tale resumes in issue #18, she reveals that the other world’s versions of her and – and Luna are the villains, but King Sombra is the benevolent ruler, nya! Nyow the mane six ponies and – and Spike have to take the Elements of Harmony through the mirror to the other world to remedy the rifting situation, nya!
The 32 page issue includes the uninterrupted 22 page tale of “Reflections Part 2” was written by Katie Cook, illustrated by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, and – and edited by Bobby Curnow, plus the bonus 2 page Starswirl tale by Katie, the 8 pages of the ads, and – and the choice of the 8 different covers, which include cover A by Andy Price, cover B by Sabrina Alberghetti, cover C by Sara Richard, and – and the 5 retailer exclusive covers that were made for made for Hot Topic and – and Larry’s Comics, nya! This issue stars Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Spike, Star Swirl, Kibitz, Celestia, Luna, evil Celestia, evil Luna, good Sombra, and – and the brief appurrances by Angel bunny, nya!
The other world’s Canterlot is the grim place, and the mane six there are the wanted felons! This results in the amewsing jail scenes, the fight with the evil purrincesses, the repurrcussions across the dimensions, and – and the startling cliffhanger, nya! As mewsual the plot, pace, dialogue, humor, purrodies, the look, and – and the spurrit are so faithful to the TV series, with the purrfect pony art, scenic art, fonts, and – and the rich vibrant colors, nya! I purrticularly like the impurressive two-page spurread as the heroes stroll past the huge stained-glass windows of the other Canterlot’s castle that depict Nightmare Moon, Derpy, Trixie and – and the Flimflams, nya! I will give issue #18 the “A” as in Alicorn, and – and I must find out what will happen next, nya! Nyow I will discuss
My Little Pony: Friends Forever #5, nya!
The Friends Forever is another of IDW’s pony comics which is so much fun, beautiful, and- and faitfhul as the series teams up different characters purr issue, so I was delighted to see that issue #5 stars Fluttershy with Zecora, nya! Zecora is the Zebra who is one of my favorite characters of the series, with the purragmatic wisdom, the kind wit, the scientific research, the purretty stripes and- and the jewels, nya! Of course I am the fan of Fluttershy too, who has the shy but sweet, kind dispurrsition, and – and the cute wings as one of the mane six ponies who repurrsents the elements of harmony, nya! She has the many critter friends, which have the significant role in this unmewsual tale, but – but not only are they acting suspiciously, they are also talking to her, nya!
Also appurring Rarity, Angel Bunny, and – and the various other bunnies, squirrels, kitties, birds, raccoons, beavers, turtles, deers and – and bears, nya! The 32 page issue is purriced $3.99 and – and it includes the uninterrupted 22 page tale plus the 10 ads, nya. We wish that the other comic book publishers’ tales were uninterrupted too, nya! The tale was written by Thom Zahler, illustrated by Tony Fleecs, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and available in the 6 different covers, nya! The regular cover art is by Amy Mebberson, Cover R1 is by Brenda Hickey, the subscription cover is by Lea Hernandez, plus the 3 other covers that were purrduced for certain stores such as Jetpack Comics and – and Hastings, nya!
The tale starts at Fluttershy’s purretty home whilst until she panics when the animals converse, so she gallops to Zecora for help, nya! Zecora has the neat home in the huge hollow tree in the lush forest, with the bottles, flasks and – and other interesting items hanging from the branches and – and the rafters, but – but I would try not to paw at them, nya! Then the tests begin on Fluttershy and – and the critters amidst the cauldron, the potions, the powders, the charts, the cards, the lights, and – and the catnip, nya! There are other beautiful scenes, but – but I should not spoil the plot of the purrfectly written, lettered, drawn colored and – and edited pony tale, which I will give the “A” as in Angel Bunny, nya! I am all done with my pony report, so here is Jenjen to discuss
The Wake #8, nya!
Arigato. The Wake is the 10 issue, oceanic horror/ science fiction mini-series from DC Comics’ Vertigo impurrint. Issues 1-5 told Part 1 of the tale, in which Cetologist Dr. Archer’s team investigated the deadly intelligent aquatic creature at the secret undersea facility, until many more creatures arrived to cause the global catastrophe. Issue #6 began Part Two which is set 200 years into the post-apocalyptic future, when Leeward the feisty angler heroine of a seaside town is stalked by enemy government thugs after she makes discovers some secrets about the past eras. Issue #8 is purriced $2.99, suggested for the mature readers due to the language, violence & nudity, and has the 20 page tale plus the 10 pages of the ads.
It was written by co-creator Scott Snyder, drawn by co-creator Sean Murphy, colored by Matt Hollingsworth, lettered by Jared K. Fletcher, edited by Mark Doyle and assistantly edited by Sara Miller, with the front cover art by Andrew Robinson. Purreviously, Leeward got caught by the villains, but she escaped when their purrison ship was sunk by one of the giant sea monsters. She and her dolphin Dash wound up aboard a pirate submarine, and in this issue she wants the pirates to help her investigate the mystery, but they are more concerned about the thugs who are in purrsuit. It seems like Leeward might be closer to solving the mystery, but the purrsuing enemy is much closer in their huge, retro-fitted, heavily armed airship.
The The smart, brave heroines are great characters, the mecha, creature & character designs are among my favorite aspects, plus the half-page panels, full page pics, panoramas & two-page spurreads. The nonlinear plot is thrilling and suspenseful with the very cinematic quality, although I wish the tale was not interrupted by the ads because the interruptions affect the suspense. The coloring is of the interesting limited color pallet, with deep shadowy areas are used for the spooky effect, and the lettering is quite nice, especially for the widdle sound FX & the exclamations. I have been quite captivated by The Wake, and nyow there are only the 2 issues to go. For my next oceanic science fiction mini-series review, I will discuss
Fathom: Kiani Vol. 3 #3
In this 4 issue mini-series which seems to ocurr sometime after the Fathom vol. 5 series, Kiani the elite warrior & dissident leader of the undersea Blue civilization has reluctantly agreed to help the treacherous scientist Luzhin at his huge research center, in exchange for his help in finding her missing younger sister Anika. Kiani is smart & savvy not to trust him, because he just wants to study and exploit her supurr water powers for the sinister purrposes. In the purrior issues we learned that he is also from the Blue cities, but after the power tests the uncontrolled expurriments cause the huge explosion with casualties amongst the wreckage. In this issue she gets fed up with Luzhin’s betrayal and decides to leave, but his soldiers purrsue her with the advanced weapons.
The 28 page issue is purriced at $3.99 and includes the 20 page tale plus the 10 pages of the ads throughout, and the choice of the 3 different front covers. It was written by Vincent Hernandez, drawn by Giuseppe Cafaro, colored by Wes Hartman, lettered by Josh Reed and edited by Frank Mastromauro. Cover A is by Cafaro & Hartman, cover B is by Dawn McTeigue & Sabine Rich, and cover C is by Jordan Gunderson & Hartman. On the covers Kiani wears the sleek tight Black jumpsuit that Luzhin gave her, but within the tale she reverts back to her mewsual exotic Crustacean-like bikini. In addition to the beautiful character designs, coiffure, couture, mecha, scenery & luminous FX, there are several large impurressive panels as she fights the soldiers in the sea and air.
The coloring is richly vibrant, and I purrticularly like the two-page spurread in which she attacks the enemy planes. She is the ruthless, enraged warrior scorned, and a lot meaner than her associate Dr. Aspen Matthews who stars in the Fathom series. Aspen is not in this issue, but there is the big surpurrise appurrance by another familiar face in a dramatic full-page pic. We are also curious about Luzhin’s assistant Nina who seems the bit enigmatic and we wonder if she might be one of those special “Executive Assistant” characters of the Aspen Comics. I should not further spoil the plot, but this issue ends on the cliffhanger that leaves me eager for the final issue as we hope for the full real family reunion for Kiani. Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Lizzy who will discuss
Critter Vol. 2 #20
Arigato! We are big fans of Cassia Crawfird alias Critter the catgirl supurr heroine with the brave noble heart, the amazing powers, the optimistic outlook, and the beautiful costume with the mecha nekomimi ear pinna and the swishy telekinetic tail! We like the bright purretty gleaming colors of the series too! This special 20th issue published by Big Dog Ink has the 22 nicely uninterrupted pages of the tale, which was very well – written by the comic’s creator Tom Hutchison, awesomely illustrated by Fico Ossio, purrfectly lettered by Kel Nuttal, and excellently edited by Kari Castor, supurrbly sammiched within the choice of wraparound cover A by Ossio, wraparound cover B by Jen Broomall, or the blank “sketch” cover!
After the tale is the one advertisemen page & purreview page of the next issue’s cover art. I suppose it is actually the 27th issue, if you include vol. 1 #0,1-4 & the 2013 annual! The tale begins with several memories of Cassia Crawford’s career as Critter, with appurrances by several associates such as Icon, Rookie, Starlette, Brenda, F-14, Slipstream, Tiffany, Lasso Lass & Wingboy! It is nice to see the heroic teamwork, although we wish School Girl was there, we miss Cassia’s best friend Gina, and we hope for the reunion with her missing mom. Sadly Cassia suffers the hearing loss from her and Rookie’s battle with Iron Butterfly in the purrevious issue, but fortunately her mecha neko pinna serve as the supurr hearing aids!
Paradox is there too, and suggests that she wear the stetson to cover them up when she is at the college. I do not trust Paradox, nor do several of her fellow heroes!, but hey do not have the much time to ponder this, because soon they are busily fighting the stone giant which smashes the skyscrapurrs in San Diego! That includes the two-page scene of the attack! During the battle, Cassia expurriences more of those tempurral anomaiies, in which we see versions of her in the different costumes from the alternate realities! There is an alarming dire cliffhanger which I will not spoil, so we are extremely curious to what happens in the next issue! For my next heroine comic book report, we will travel to the ancient Hyborian era of
Red Sonja vol. 2 #9!
Red Sonja is one of our favorite characters, and we have been enjoying the current story arc which began in vol. 2 #7 of her comic book from Dynamite Entertainment! She was hired by a dying Empurrer to find six master of various trades to attend his farewell party, and if she accomplishes this task, he will free thousands of slaves! Purreviously she was able to round up the master chef, and the beast lord, and in this issue she intends to fetch purrincess Aneva the top courtesan! The 32 page issue is purriced $3.99 and has the 20 page tale plus the 10 pages of the ads! The tale was written by Gail Simone who we got to meet at the NC Comicon in November, drawn by Walter Geovani, colored by Adriano Lucas, lettered by Simon Bowland & edited by Joseph Rybandt!
There are 7 different cvers to chose from too, such as the main cover by Jenny Frison, he variant cover by Stephanie Hans, the exclusive subscription variant by Stephanie Buscema, and the 4 rarer
versions! It is rated T+ for the older teen readers, due to the sexuality, the melee violence, some unkind words, and purrhaps Sonja’s sexy skimpy scale-mail bikini! It is one of the most iconic costumes of the comics, but in this issue we get to see the rare sight of her in the fancy dress, hair & make-up, and in an impurressive two-page spurread we also see her rather aroused by the frisky attention by the many sultry courtesans of all genders in the opulent bordello castle, mew la la, nya! However, soon she regains her composure to meet Aneva who has the noble spurrit!
She also has the bittersweet past of the impoverished hard childhood, and she hopes to lead her fellow courtesans to the more safer, healthier & dignified conditions. Unfortunately there are some cruel soldiers in the vicinity who do not treat the ladies with the purropurr respect, and they make the fatal mistake of accosting Aneva, Sonja and her poor horse, not long after Sonja has caught the tasty yummy fish for the breakfast! I thought this was the good issue with the well rendered characters, clothing, architecture, landscape & combat! It has the good mix of the allure, whimsy, sadness, kindness, surpurrises & combat seasoned with the dash of dark humor & Sonja’s mewsual sarcasm that is as sharp as the blades & arrows! OK I’m done, and nyow here is Myayr to tell us about
Angel & Faith Season 10 #2!
Thanks Lizzy! We are big fans of the canonical Buffy, Angel, Willow, Spike & Fray comics published by Dark Horse and executively purroduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon! Angel & Faith Season 10 seems to occur simultaneously as the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 comics, as many of the characters were reunited to slay the vampires & zompires in Santa Rosita, although Angel, GIles’s aunts Sophronia & Lavina remained in London. Angel & Faith issue #2 picks up right where issue #1 left off, with the return of Nadira whilst Faith joins Kennedy’s team! The $3.50 issue has the 28 pages including the uninterrupted 22 page tale of “Where The River Meets The Ocean Part Two”, the 2 pages of readers’ & editor’s comments, and 4 pages of the ads.
It was scripted by Victor Gischler who wrote the Spike mini-series; illustrated by Will Conrad, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Scott Allie, & assistantly edited by Freddye Lins, with the issue’s graphic design by Justin Couch, the main cover art by Scott Fischer, and the variant cover by Chris Samnee & Jordie Bellaire! Angel encounters a mystically resurrected & altered Nadira, the former vengeful slayer who nyow serenely offers care to despurrate homeless folks in the Magic Town district of London! The situation reminds Angel of Drusilla’s recent cult following in Season 9, and he hoped the trail would lead him to the lair of Corky the evil Pixie gang leader, but Nadira only offers the very cryptic suggestions!
This reminds me the bit of “The Powers that Be” whom he used to consult However, after more detective work & questioning at the pubs, Angel does encounter Corky again, brawls with Corky’s pal Tommy the big burley warthog monster, and has the more cordial meeting with police inspector Brandt who used to purrtol that district. Meanwhile, after Faith poignantly says goodbye to Giles, she boards Kennedy’s purrivate jet with slayers Holly & Leah. Giles needs to spend time with Buffy while Faith joins Kennedy’s Deepscan security coprurration! The job offers the great oppurrtunity for the slayer girls, with the purrestige, action, adventure, weapons, training, big bucks & benefits, but there are also lots of rules, purroceedures & papurrwork to complicate Faith’s style!
Her first assignment is to guard a rock star who parties with the groupies, and it is good that she is there to deal with the deadly dilemma after the concert! I think the Buffy, Angel & Faith comics are fun & beautiful with the good balance of action, humor, drama & mythology, with the pace, portraitures & spurrit that are faithful to the TV shows! The tales cleverly continue the TV shows, but with the advantages of the comics medium! The color, lighting & lettering are purrticularly effective to convey the tone & ambience amidst the interesting technique of the intricate scenery. I like Nadira’s beautiful happier image, the other character & creature designs, and I will give this issue the high grade of an “A” as in Angel! Nyow we will go from London to Transylvania for
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #3!
Purreviously in the Buffy Comic, after the fight against Vicki the vampire and her hoard of vamps who are not bothered by the sunlight and can transform into the wolves, mist. bats, bees & cats, there were plenty of amewsing moments as the heroes discussed the situations and the different breed of the vampires! There were depurrtures, reunions, and cryptic comments to suggest things that might return! Detective Dowling has recovered from injuries sustained in Season 9, and Xander was visited by the ghost of his former demon girl friend Anya aboard the flight to Transylvania!
This brings us up to this issue’s “New Rules Part Three”, with the return of Dracula who we have not seen since Season 8!
The tale was co-scripted by Nicholas Brendon who purrtrayed Xander on TV, and by Christos Gage whose Avengers Academy comics we miss! We got to meet him at Heroes Con and at the NC Comicon! It was drawn by Rebekah Isaacs & colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited Scott Allie, assistanly edited by Freddye Lins, designed by Justin Couch, executively purrduced y Joss Whedon, and published by Michael Richardson, who were purrt the great team with Gage on Angel & Faith Season 9! The issue has the choice of 2 different covers- one by Steve Morris who was also the great purrt of that team, and the other cover’s art is by the Isaacs & Jackson!
The issue has the $3.50 purrice, and the 28 pages compurrtised of the 22 page tale, the 2 pages of the readers’ & editor’s interesting comments, and the 4 pages of the ads. The tale is off to the whimsical start of Dawn & Xander’s visit to Count Dracula’s castle which includes his Purrple demon butler Butterfield. Dracula returns with them to San Francisco in time to assist Buffy, Willow & Spike with more slaying fun, followed by more amewsing moments for the group back at Xander & Dawn’s home along with Giles & Andrew. Andrew is the starstruck fanboy eager to meet Dracula, which appeals to the count’s narcissistic ego, but Spike would rather eat the potato chips than appease his pal the count!
My favorite purrt is the joyful sequence when Buffy & Willow go on the purrtrol! I should not reveal too much more, but there is more action, humor, the very sad moment & the startling cliffhanger! There was nary a dull moment amidst the developments, witty banter & supurrb art! I especially like the characters’ great poses, purropurrtions, purrtraiture, expurressions, gestures, clothing details, and the widdle details of the scenery, from the architecture & landscaping to the furniture & decor. There are Star Wars figures on the top shelf! The comics continue have the extremely faithful look, dialogue, pace & spurrit of the TV series, and I will give this issue the “A” as in Andrew! Nyow here is Vonny to tell us about
This One Summer!
Arigato, nya! This is the slice-of-life graphic novel about the two girl friends at the traditional beach visit, but this time the summertime brings more teen angst than fun. It was written by author & purrformance artist Mariko Tamaki & illustrated by her cousin Jillian Tamaki who is an illustrator, cartoonist & teacher, nya! They are the multiple award – winners who purreviously collaborated upon the Skim graphic novel, nya! This One Summer has the 320 pages of the Blue & White monochromatic art published by First Second, nya! Nyow for a bigger taste of the poignant plot, nya!
Rose and her younger best friend Windy are at Awago Beach in the beach houses which is the customary vacation for the families, but this year it is strained due to the quarreling of Rose’s estranged purrents, her mom’s sullen, withdrawn state after a family tragedy, nya. Unfortunately the more innocent vacation & beachy activities are of less interest to Rose, as things become angry, embarrassed, scared, depurressed & confuzzeled, as she & Windy dabble in older fare such as the horror movie rentals and ponder the more mature topics as the growing teens tend to do, nya.
Unfortunately this results in the harsh language, lashing out at the wrong folks & spending more time around trashier spots & unpleasant people, nya. Some of the purrotagnists are sympathetic & understandable, but there some awfully rude, mean characters, including one purrticular jerk at the history mewseum, nya! Speaking of the jerks, there is even the disdain for the jerky treats, nya! The tale is told through Rose’s 1st purrson narrative with the intimate quality amongst the realistic ambience, beautifully illustrated characters & scenery, nya! Nextly I would like to review
The Complete Peanuts 1991-1992, nya!
It is hard to believe that Fantagraphics has already reached the 21st volume of The Complete Peanuts series, which is the wonderful, ambitious, top quality undertaking to collect all of the 17,897 daily & Sunday Peanuts mewspapurr strips by Charles M. Schulz in the 50 year chronological order, nya! He wrote, drew & lettered them all, nya! This hardcover has the USA purrice of $29.99, with Marcie on the dust jacket & boards sammiched around the 348 pages full of the strips from 1991 & 1992 in Black & White, plus the introduction by Tom Tomorrow and the handy index, nya!
To put that into the historical purrspective, 1991 was the year of movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Only Yesterday, Silence of the Lambs and Terminator 2, whilst the movies & anime of 1992 included Aladdin, Batman Returns, Porco Rosso, Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo, nya! 1991’s strips start with Snoopy at Woodstock’s traditional party, nya. Snoopy gets addicted to cookies and his guises include the World War I flying ace, Beagle Scout, legionnaire, mountain lion, flag man, attorney, author, artist, golfer, surgeon, veteran, zamboni driver, Santa Claus & Joe Cool, nya!
His brother Spike tries to cook pancakes, imitates the tumbleweed, wins the purrizes, purrtends to be the sailor, trick ‘r treats, doctors and decorates the cactus, nya! As mewsual, there are plenty of activities for Charlie Brown & Sally, Linus, Lucy & Rerun, Marcie & Peppermint Patty, Violet, Woodstock, his fellow feathered friends Bill, Conrad, Olivier, Harriet, Raymond & Wilson, nya! There are brief appurrances by Schroeder, Franklin, Lydia, Patty, Pigpen & Cormac; and unseen nearby characters include the Little Red-Haired Girl, Peggy Jean, Mrs, Van Pelt & the teachers, nya!
As mewsual there are the scenes at home, school, the bus, mail box, theatre, camp, the pool, the beach, the kites, baseball, football, golf course, desert, ice rink, the snowy hill, psychiatric booth and the pumpkin patch, nya! There are certain large landscape scenes in February, Apurril & December of 1992, the crowd of Beagles in the golf gallery in an August strip, and the many birds at Snoopy’s party in a December strip, nya! It is the wonderful book which I will give the high purraise grade of an A as in “Aaugh”, nya! I am all done, so nyow here is Bunnibun to tell us about
Kanokon Omnibus Vol.7-9, nya!
Arigato! Kanokon is the supernatural romantic / sex comedy manga written by Katsumi Nishino & illustrated by Rin Yamaki, with the original character designs by Kojin. The manga was originally published in Japan by Media Factory Inc., and the translated North American version is published Seven Seas Entertainment, whose editions of Monster Musume, A Centaur’s Life, Strike Witches, Senran Kagura we have also enjoyed! We reviewed the Kanokon anime in the April 20111 Mew! It is the tale of Chizuru the busty frisky fox girl with amorous intentions for Kouta, the one human amongst the yokai students of Kunpu Academy! To complicate things are the romantic rivals & powerful enemies such as the Kudzu Leaf organization of several clans with schemes for Chizuru!
Kanokon is wacky fun, but not for widdle kitties, and rated for readers of ages 16+ because of the rampant sexuality, nudity, language & fight violence! In addition to Chizuru & Kouta, the recurring characters include Nozomu the petite rival wolf girl, Chiziuru’s brother Tayura, home room teacher Sahara – sensei, coach Yatsuka – sensei, class president Akane, Kumada the big burly bear spirit, nosey wealthier friends Yooks & Kiriko, cute widdle half frog spirit Mio & her boyfriend Omi, Chizuru’s flirty mom Tamamo the nine-tailed fox, Yukihana the snow woman, the poor hungry freshman student sisters Ren & Ai Nanao who are the demon hunters, and Minori who claims to be Kouta’s long-lost widdle sister, but she is revealed as a secret magickal enemy agent of Kudzu Leaf!
Omnibus volume 7-9 contains chapters 20-31 to conclude the series, and unless I miscounted, this very paperback book it has about 520 pages of the manga including the few pin-ups, notes, and 8 color pages, with the color art of Chizuru & Akane on the front cover! That is a lot of manga bang for the buck! It was translated into English by Ryan Peterson, adapted by Shannon Fay, lettered & laid out by MA. Victoria Robado, proof read by Katherine Bell & Conner Crooks, and edited by Adam Arnold with cover design by Nicky Lim! Previously, Minori escaped and cast the magickal spell to reduce Chizuru’s prized large boobies into the flat chest, so as this volume begins, friends are united in search for the remedy that will refill the bra cup, resorting to various ribald techniques!
Fortunately by chapter 23 her boobies are fully rejuvinated, along with Chizuru & Kouta’s kindness & food to win the hearts & tummies of Ren & Ai, and after they thwart another attack upon the school, Minori winds up in prison chains by her displeased masters. We learn more of Kudzu Leaf’s intentions for Chizuru, who they believe to be the avatar of Yamata no Orochi, the eight headed dragon they hope to summon, although I think they would rather not rile up that dragon! After the school battle, the gang goes to the beach & lodges at the seaside resort of Tamamo & Yukihana, but more pervy, lustful incidents occur, plus the battle with Tototamahiko the irate sea god! Although the clothes are often shed, the fashion details are among the aspects of the lovely art!
The cleavage & sex might be a main focus of the narrative and the art, but there is much sense of family & friends’ camaraderie & unity, and intricate details of the expressive characters, interior & exterior scenery that should not be overlooked! This includes the later costumes for Minori who is released to strike again, and the powerful oni girl who is eager to brawl with Kumada in chapter 28! The battle threatens to wreck the school, but there is an unexpected turn when Tataraya and his daughter Natsumi arrive with an agenda that differs from the rest of Kudzu Leaf, but I will not spoil what happens in the final 70 pages, which are topped off by the artist’s message, the sketches and the 8 color pages! Another manga published by Seven Seas that I wish to discuss is
A Centaur’s Life Vol. 3!
A Centaur’s Life is the fantasy manga written & drawn by Kei Murayama, which was originally published in Japan in 2011 as Centau No Nayami by Tokuma Shoten Publishing, and the translated North American version is nyow published Seven Seas! It is set in the world similar to ours with the same countries, and types of situations, but the population of the world are the centaurs, fauns, kemonomimi, angels, the dracons, unicorn & snake people plus other anthropomorphic species, such as the Kanata City high school students! It is the charming, amusing, slice – of – life tale of the girls at home & school, with the intricately designed world, culture, history, the architecture, furnishings & clothing for the various species!
Throughout 162 page trade paperback are the 6 pages of the notes, this time pertaining to the history of Kanata City, plus the tidbist about religion & legends! The main character is Himeno the Redhead centaur girl, and in this volume there is more of her adorable widdle centaur niece Shino-chan! Himeno’s best friends Kyoko the Blonde satyr girl and Nozomi the Brunette tomboy Dracon girl! Their classmates include the romantic couple of Akechi the brunette satyr girl & Inukai her unihorn girlfriend, and Mitami the angelic class president! Mitami has the 4 cute catgirl sisters of the cross breed including the youngest widdle Sue-chan and the triplet sisters Chinami, Chiho & Chigusa who are collectively the Chi-chans!
Rated for the older teen readers of ages 16+, volume 3 includes chapters 9 – 14 of the Black & White manga, with 2 color pages & color covers, priced $12.99 USA & $14.99 Canada. The manga was translated by Angela Liu, adapted by Holly Kolodziejczak, lettered & laid out by Jennifer Skarupa, edited by Adam Arnold, purroof read by Lee Otter & Conner Crooks, with the logo design by Courtney Williams & cover design by Nicky Lim! Chapter 9 is the longest chapter at 42 pages to cover the girls’ softball game! Hime pitches for her team, and at bat she has the high strike zone but she can quickly gallop the bases! Akira has the winged advantage in the outfield, but the teams have the fair balance of skill & attributes!
Chapter 10 is 24 pages of Shino-chan and her friends at Kindergarten! Kawaii! Her mom is Hime’s aunt Midoriko who makes the brief end appearance! Chapter 11 depicts the Sunday study session of Hime, Kyoko & Nozomi. It is for Nozomi’s benefit to boost her grades, but she is easily distracted, and seeing the UFO does not help! Her dad is the sensei of the karate dojo! The UFO will be discussed later in chapter 14, but in the 30 cute pages of chapter 12 Sue-chan & the Chi-chans play at home with friends whilst their older sister Mitami attends the meeting and their dad is at work, but one of the playful visitors is mysterious; and Chapter 13 is the short 10 pages of the guys arguing about what to watch on TV!
Chapter 14 is the 22 page chapter, as Hime, Kyoko & Nozomi discuss the UFO topic and notice other odd things on the way to school, such as the increased security due to the arrival of Miss Quetzalcoatl Sassassul who is the snake girl transfer student from Antarctica; and to top off volume 3 is the 2 page Afterward of the meta-fictional aspects as the girls discuss the volume! A Centaur’s Life is among my recent favorite manga series full of very likable characters in the charming situations, with the beautiful character & scenic art, the delightful dialogue, leisurely pace, rich design & history of the world, so I will give it the high grade of an A as in Akechi! That will conclude my manga reviews, and now it is time for
The Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Thanks Bun! Since the October 2009 edition of The Mew, the Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight has shined upon the famous catgirl, nekomimi & werekitty characters of the toys, games, internet, novels, comics & manga, animated & live-action cinema & TV! Our broadly inclusive criteria includes those who actually have feline DNA or those who just dress the part, those who have only been temporary catgirls, and those who might lack the tail but have the cat-titude, prowess or style for us to consider them as “honorary catgirls”! This month we have a clowder of catgirl prose, comics, anime & illustration to shine the spotlight upon!
Hai, last month we reviewed the purrose trade papurrbook tale of the Cat-Girl by Jem O’!, which was published in 2013 and purrtains to Emily the 10 year old Green-eyed, Redhead girl who wishes for the house cat, but after the supurrnatural moonlight she becomes the cat with magickal powers! She can transform herself and her best friend Rosie into the cat or the girl, which is the handy or paw-y power to have when her parents are kidnapped! Secrets are discovered in the cute fun brisk tale by young author Jen who co-illustrated it with J Smith! I hope to read her other books, and I hope there might be more adventures for Emily & Rosie!
Ten years ago cartoonist, designer & animator Kyle Carrozza’s tale of Clare’s Stupid Life was serialized in Furrlough, the anthropurrmorphic anthology series published by Radio Comics, nya! It is the wacky tale of Clare the college graduate catgirl with Blonde hair & tail, who lives with her purrents and tries to find her purrpose along with friends Fork the fox girl and Syl the bunny girl, nya! They try the different jobs such as roller skating waitresses, convenience store clerks and TV show crew, with the undesired results, nya!
30 years ago the animated TV Cat’s Eye anime series purremiered in Japan! There was also the later live-action movie version too! Based upon the manga by Tsukasa Hojo, Cat’s Eye purrtains to the three sisters Hitomi, Ai & Rui Kisugi, who opurrate the Cat’s Eye cafe by day, and purrowl for the fine art to purrloin by night! They have the delightful costumes & gadgets of the nekomimi motif, but they are not stealing the art for the thrill or the value, but in the hope that it will lead them to their missing father. Meanwhile, Hitomi’s police detective boyfriend is purretty clueless, and does not suspect her secret identity!
In 1977 Marvel Super Special #1 starred KISS in the tale by Steve Gerber! (Sticks out her long cat tongue and makes the heavy metal “horns” hand gesture) In chapter 3 of that tale, the band got sepurrated in outer space where Peter & Ace telepurrted to the space disco, which was populated by the characters of various species, including several cat girls such as Mandu! She had he beautiful Light Brown hair, striped Golden skin, the cute ears & whiskers, and the sexy tight backless magenta dress with the matching gloves ribbons & spike heels, mew la la! She had the brief dance with Peter, until the thug named Big Leo and his rude gang arrived to cut in, so Peter & Ace danced on those thugs’ faces before rejoining Gene & Paul back on Earth!
On May 3rd we got Marvel Comics’ Rocket Racoon Free Comic Book Day issue which has two catgirls in it! Firstly in the story of the “Business Opportunities”, Rocket tries to rescue Purrincess Lynx of Felisa from the space purrison! She is sassy, agile & tough and has the lithe, tan purrt figure and the lovely long ear pinna, but she seems to be the grumpy, tragic catgirl. Nextly in the issue is the “Space Oddities” mission for Spider-Man, Nova and Ayla the White Tiger! We have purreviously shown the spotlight upon her, and although we miss her Avengers Academy comics we are so glad that Ayla is still on the purrowl!
In DC Comics’ Aquaman and The Others comic book, one of The Others is the Brazilian heroine Ya’Wara, who reminds me the bit of DC’s Rima the Jungle Girl as the protector of the Amazon rain forest, although Yawa’rah has the darker cocoa colored skin tone adorned with the ink, and the ring ornaments in her lush Black hair with the stripe! She has the teleport device that resembles the cat bell collar, although it has not worked of late! She does not have the neko ears or tail, but as the agile, fierce jungle girl in the bikini as dark as the Panther Jaguar friend, so we will consider Ya’Warah as an “honorary” catgirl! That will include this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, and now here are Vonny & Tara-chan to present
