Becca & Elizabeth are away on their honeymoon, but we’ve still got a very big crowd here for our anniversary show, and hopefully more friends will join us later for the AfterMew Luau, so quickly, what has everyone else been up to of late?
Oh since the wedding I have been helping at the dock and the art mewseum, SUP surfing, cheering for Petra & Bun’s beach volleyball victories, and I have continued to assist Jenjen with the Spring semester of the belly dance class! Soon it will be time for the summer semester!
Aside from helping onee-chan with the charters, the boat, the cats, the food bank, the wedding plans and – and the meweseum, I have been at the the belly dance class, collecting the Pony items, watching some DVDs, attending some of the festivals and – and the sporting events, nya!
Aside from the fishing charters’ taut lines of the hooked Groupurrs, Snappurrs, Cobias, Wahoos, Mackerals, and Tunas,  my drum circle has been purrcussioning for the dance purrformances, we have been volunteering at the food bank, reading comic books and watching DVDs, nya!
Mary Nyan:
Things have returned to normalcy since the wedding and I have been instructing the hula, training the appurrentice mikos, sewing the costumes for the dancers & cosplayers, cheering for the Petra & Bun, and I look forward to the victories at Jenjen’s kyudo club and Nya-sensei’s dojo!
I have resumed my busy training and coaching at my dojo and gym, I have been attending the other events, helping sis at her shop, we are looking forward to our next visit with papa and oji-san; I have been swimming, reading, watching the LPGA, and the NCAA Women’s softball!
Lessee… since the joyful wedding, when I have not been cat-sitting for Lizzy & Becca and busy at my magick shop which is purrparing for the Summer Solstice, I have been attending the seminars, the festivals, the conventions and the sporting events, and reading my favorite manga!
As mewsual, my typical routine is compurrised of the mornings at the yoga studio, the afternoons at the kyudo range, alternating nights at the robotics club and belly dance classes, the weekends of modeling the swim wear, and attending local festivities events and sporting events.
When I I have not been busy with the shipwreck diving and cat-aloging the purrized nautical relics for the exhibits, I have gardening, reading, and listening to my favorite mewsic such as the Prince songs, and it is sad that he has passed away but nyow he is in the purrple heaven!

Hai that was the stunning sad news, but it has been so heart – warming to see the many tributes! I cannot believe that the longly – awaited wedding has already happened, but following that I have been busy since we are commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Parks Service!
So like, at our outdoor Faeire Grove Ampurrtheatre we have been purrforming Springtime Shakespeare to especially commemorate The Bard’s 400th birthday! I have also been choreographing our the Summer fox fire fiesta, I have been instructing golf and attending the events!
I have found the time for my favorite radio shows and reading the graphic novels, when Bun and I have not been curating the exhibits at the mewseum and opening the mewest gallery addition, and we greatly appurreciate the volleyball fans and the mewseum friends, nya!
Hai hai, are grateful for the league athletes, officials, event staff and fans; the mewseum exhibitors, patrons and volunteers; our island’s community of very talented friendly artisans, and my fellow bakers who donate the many delicious nutritious foods to the charitable food bank!
I am grateful that I am purrticipate in The Mew so soon again when I have not been busy with the purrtrols & papurrwork!  I am looking forward the trip to the mainland with my motorcycle club. We will be heading westwardly to ride the Dragon’s Tail stretch of the mountain highway!
Since we hired more officers, rangers & life guards, we have been able to provide more service with more flexible schedules to attend the festivities, where I have been educating the youngsters about the fire works safety, when I have not been at the office, on patrol or at the gym!
It was great to meet Chief Ellie’s mom at the wedding reception! Since then I have been helping my mom and dad at the dive-in theater, where they expect the big crowds for Captain America: Civil War… and my amphibious hot air balloon tour business turns two years old this month!
It is good that Lizzy & Becca have more masseuses to mind the spa while on the honeymoon! It has been busy at Sheila May’s Restaurant too, where we have stayed booked with the reservations, and I hope there will be the audience for my dance recital with Tsu!
Hai hai, it has stayed very busy Tami and I have that night off from work, and of course we hope that y’all will be able to attend, but ‘Lomi and her assistants will be videographing the dance for those unable to attend! Um, I sure do hope that she still has that night off!
Hai hai I have that night off of work too! you know, I am supposed to be just the part time employee there nowadays, but they want me to mentor the new intern Sommeleirs when I am not teaching the underwater photography classes at the purrforming arts center!
I am looking forward to teaching the Ikebana this Summer and repurrsenting Sheila May’s at the next barista competition! I have been honing my espresso, cappuccino, and ice coffee technique. I will serve some as the digestif with dessert after tonight’s Aftermew!
We will be cheering for y’all at the dance and the coffee! Let’s sea… I have been volunteering at the Sea Dragon shelter, working at the restaurant, experimenting with the hot sauces, enjoying my hobbies of the beading, scrap booking, knitting, and the tattoo class!
Sometimes I do miss working at the restaurant! Since the wedding, I have been busy at the shelter and on duty with the Surf Purrtrol, but fortunately there have been no emergencies of late, isn’t that right, Ruru-chan? (tosses her manatee a cabbage snack)
(eats the tasty treat) nom nom nom…
When I have not been busy at the shelter and the purrtrol, I have been training for the next swim meet, and I went to the theatre to see the Jungle Book movie which I will review a bit later in the show! Howboutchoo, Forma-san?
Oh I will be in town for the few more days, so I hope to catch those new movies, watch some of the sporting events, and visit with the pearl diving club before I head back to Canada for the family reunion! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh man, lately I’ve been busy every weekend.with Bot Con, the Oak City Comicon, Lizzy & Becca’s wedding, and my monthly RPG! Ah, otherwise, I’ve been drawing, writing, reading, watching movies & TV, listening to the radio and spending time with family & friends! Ah, well, we’ve got a lot to cover today, so let’s keep going and start
The Lightning Round!
Since we began to ponder the movies we hope to see this year, we’ve been reminiscing about favorite movies of prior years. Last month we nominated our favorite films of 2006, so for this month the Lightning Round topic is our favorite films of 1996! This can also include OVAs and mini-series. Ah… it’s a tough decision but I think my top five favorites would be Ninja Cadets, Lupin III: Dead or Alive, Hunchback, Fargo and First Strike! Well gosh, that was a fairly expedient lightnin
g round, considering there are over two dozen of us, including Ruru-chan! Well let’s dive right into our
movie and DVD reviews, starting with
Jen’s review of The Hateful Eight DVD!
Arigato. We are purrticularly fond of the movies directed and / or written by Quentin Tarantino such as Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, From Dusk till Dawn, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill parts 1 & 2,  Death Proof, Inglourious Bastards and Django Unchained, so we were quite eager to see his latest movie The Hateful Eight. We were especially enthused because of the oppurrtunity in last December to see the Roadshow longer version which was filmed in the anamorphic Ultra Panavision 70 mm format of the 2.76:1 screen aspect ratio.
This is very wide format was used for epics especially in the 1950’s and 1960’s, as such as Ben Hur, Mutiny on the Bounty and It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World. Written & directed by Tarantino, The Roadshow edition of The Hateful Eight ran appurroximately 187 minutes, with the opening overture, intermission, and the souvineer 16 page full color 10×10″ program book in selected theaters; whilst a shorter version received the wide release, without the overture, intermission or program booklet. Much of the film shot in Telluride, Colorado.
Among the cast are Jennifer Jason Leigh who was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Coggins, James Parks, Zoe Bell, Michael Madsen, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Bruce Dern, Channing Tatum and Lee Horsely. Director of photography Robert Richardson was nominated for the oscar for Best Cinematography, and mewsic composer Ennio Morricone won The Oscar for Best Original Score. The nonlinear tale is set in the Wyoming frontier of the late 1800’s after the American Civil War.
This is where the several bounty hunters, former soldiers, lawmen, outlaws, and stage coach drivers convene at a lodge during a severe blizzard until it is safe  for them to purroceed to the nearest town. However, not everyone is honest about their identity or their intentions in this viscerally captivating, nonlinear tale told in 6 acts. I have highly purraised the film’s plot, pace, dialogue, the purrformances, direction, costumes, make-up, sets, locations, cinematography, stunts, special effects, editing, sound, the mewsic and the fine horses.
The Region One, NTSC Standard DVD has the single disk packaged within the plastic case within the outer cardboard sleeve. The movie is rated R due to the bloody violence, a scene of violent sexual content, the harsh language and brief bit of nudity. The film is purrsented in the anamorphic widescreen format of the 2.76:1 aspect ratio. The DVD’s audio choices are English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, with the optional English or Spanish subtitles, which are of the bold White sans serif font with the fin Black outline.
This shorter, wide release / non – roadshow edition of the movie runs 167.5 minutes, without the overture or intermission. There are no purreview trailers front-loaded advertisements. At the main menu, you can select a purrticular scene or mewsic from the film. The bonus features are rather sparse, with no audio commentaries, galleries, booklets or long documentaries; however there is an appurroximately 5 minute discussion of the making of the movie, and an appurroximately 7.75 minute discussion of the Ultra Panavision 70 mm format.
The former featurette includes comments by Tarantino, Goggins, Russell, Jackson, Leigh, Richardson and purrducer Stacey Sher. I was more fascinated by the latter featurette which has comments by Tarantino, Goggins, Russell, Jackson, Leigh, Parks, Richardson, 1st camera assistant Gregor Tavennerpurrducers Stacey Sher, Shannon McIntosh and Richard GladsteinPanavision’s repurrsentatives Dan Sasaki, Bob Harvey and Jim Roudebush. That will conclude my DVD review, and nyow here is Daytona to tell us about
The Jungle Book.
Arigato! We have been very pleased with Disney’s live-action and animated movies & TV shows, so I was eagerly anticipating this latest adaptation of The Jungle Book! This version is based upon the original literature by author Rudyard Kipling, and the 1967 Disney animated version. It was directed by Jon Favreau whose Iron Man movies I have enjoyed!
The plot pertains to Mowgli the orphaned human boy who was rescued by Bagheera the panther and raised by Raksha the wolf of Akela’s wolf pack. Unfortunately Mowgli is hunted by Shere Khan the greatly feared tiger who hates humans, so he runs away into the jungle where he encounters the Indian elephants, Kaa the python, and Baloo the bear.
Mowgli later gets caught by the apes, who leader King Louie informs him that Shere Khan has preyed upon the wolf pack, so Bagheera and Baloo have to rescue Mowgli, who then grabs a torch and returns home to face the tiger amidst a blazing forest fire! It is a very thrilling, poignant, tragic and amusing movie with such beautifully lush scenery and FX!
The great cast includes Neel Sethi as Mowgli, and the voices of Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, Christopher Walken as Louie, Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as Akeela! The animals are conveyed through CG FX which I thought were very realistic and convincing!
I think the sdounds and the music score are great, and the soundtrack includes the wonderful songs such as “Trust in Me” sung by Johansson, “I Wanna Be Like You” sung by Walken, “The Bare Necessities” sung by Murray, and again by Dr. John and The Nite Trippers band. I especially liked “Trust in Me”, which has the very hypnotic sensual qualities! I am looking forward to seeing her in Captain America: Civil War! That is all for our movie & DVD topic, and now here is Mike to begin our
convention reports with
his BotCon 2016 report!
Thank you! BotCon is the official Transformers Convention, which is sponsored by Hasbro, organized by Brian Savage and the folks of Fun Publications (who also organize the International G.I. Joe Collectors Convention, and attended by thousands of Transformers fans of all ages from around the world! I’ve been to 3 of the Joe Cons, and this was my 2nd Bot Con. Both cons are in a different city each year, and this year’s BotCon was in Louisville, Kentucky.
The road trip  from NC to KY started on Wednesday morning April 6th for Pacozord and ob1(who were guests of the October 2007 Mew), Chef Ron (who was the guest of the January 2009 Mew), and I, but when we stopped in Mt. Airy for lunch at Snappy Diner and dessert at Miss Angel’s Heavenly Piesob1’s truck got a flat tire which delayed our progress by a few hours. The trip took us through Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky, until we arrived at the terrific Galt House hotel!
A few activities had already happened, such as a horses and bourbon tour, a Transformers figures customizing class, and package pick-up for attendees with the Golden Ticket memberships.  The hotel was quite big and gorgeous with amenities, cordially helpful staff, lots of places to relax, mingle or dine, including the lovely bright sky walk connecting the two towers overlooking the Ohio River. I didn’t visit the spa, gym, pool or UPS store, but our suites were great and we all slept late.
We ventured out for lunch on Thursday morning, whilst the customizing class and a caving / museum tour embarked. We considered searching for local comics shops, but we instead opted for further relaxation,  After supper at a nearby pub it was time to queue up for exhibitors’ registration, followed by the exclusive toy and souvenir package pick-up at the convention store. then unloading the truck and dropping stuff off at Pacozord and ob1’s booths in the dealers room.
Some of this year’s con exclusive action figures were the Predacus, Megatron, Air Razor, Tigatron, Untit-3, Reflector and other souvenir items. I got a tee shirt, a pin, and the con’s full color program / comic book. Friday after breakfast we returned to the dealers room at 7:30 am to unpack the boxes. Pacozord and ob1 had a variety of toys and comics to sell, including Transformers, G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Masters of the Universe, Power Rangers, Godzilla, Hot Wheels, Marvel & DC.
Of course, the vast majority of items sold at the con were old & new, domestic & import Transformers stuff, and aside from one dealer selling plushies, there were not many My Little pony items at the con. Across the corridor beside the con store was an artist alley with maybe a dozen artists including our friend Barry Shearer, and Hasbro’s display of forthcoming Transformers toys. Since the dealers room didn’t open to the attendees until 2 pm, we had ample time to set up the booths.
Throughout the day there were panels, contests, presentations, hourly prize giveaways & autograph sessions until 5 pm; including the film fest, art contest, diorama contest, Beast Wars panel and comics panel. There were readings & autograph sessions by actors Judd Nelson, Gregg Berger, David Kaye and Venus Terzo, but I forgot to bring a Ranma 1/2 DVD set for Venus to autograph, as she provided the American English dubbed voice of female Ranma!
Stan Bush and Vince DiCola had panels and an outdoor concert. Stan is perhaps best known for his song “The Touch” from the 1986 Transformers movie, which turns 30 this year! We almost went to the concert after supper, but the weather was a bit too nippy for me. Other events going on at the hotel and nearby Kentucky International Convention Center, included the Garth Brooks concert, drill team competitions, volleyball, wheelchair basketball, marketing seminars, and the Virginia Tech Women’s Softball team was in town, too!
Saturday was the most bustling, busy day of the con with further panels, photo ops, and autograph sessions, including Hasbro’s Aaron Archer, the Transformers Collectors’ Club Roundtable, and the costume contest hosted by Rosemary Ward who was a guest of our May 2013 Mew! There were maybe two dozen male, female, child and adult cosplayers at the con, most as Autobots and Decepticons, and the contest winners were a Fortress Maximus, Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus!
After the exhibition hall closed at 5 pm, we had a while to relax, watch the 1953 Western movie Arrowhead (starring Charleton Heston) on TV and change into nicer attire for the 7:30 pm supper / casino night / awards presentation & charity auction at the convention center, where we dined with new acquaintances and I got to chat briefly with Judd Nelson and tell him how much his movie Fandango has meant to me. I called it a night around 11:30 and then it was Sunday before I knew it!
We watched a Roy Rogers TV show, packed our bags, partook of the Magnolia restaurant’s yummy breakfast buffet, checked out of the hotel, and returned to the dealers room for the final hours of the con. Sunday’s panels included The Art of Transformers, character designer Hayate Sakamoto, the Cybercast podcast, and BotCon Over the years. It was a more leasurely day in the dealers room, until things really perked up again for the last couple of hours until the show closed at 3:30 pm.
My purchases included a Bot Con 2001 “Black Widow” Arcee figure, a Japanese import Transformers Legends Arcee figure, a few comic books, and one of Stan Bush’s CDs. We packed up, loaded and gassed up the truck, and 2 hours later were on the highway headed back home until we stopped for supper and spent the night at a motel. Monday morning after breakfast we were on the road again, and after a few stops along the way we finally returned home on late Monday afternoon.
It was a very long and tiring road trip, but golly we had a great time, and I’d like to thank the friendly folks who contributed to the fun, such as Brian and his convention staff, the special guests, the Transformers Collectors Club, IDW, Hasbro, the employees of Galt House, the KICC, the restauranteurs, the exhibitors, Pacozord, Chef Ron, ob1, his truck, and the many fellow fans who rolled out for BotCon 2016! Okay I’ll shut up for now, and here’s our island’s Police Chief Meryl to report on the
Oak City Comicon 2016!
The Oak City Comiccon is a one – day mini – con on the mainland in our state’s capital city of Raleigh! The show is sponsored & staffed by the folks of Ultimate Comics a great comics shop with stores in Raleigh and Chapel Hill! They also put on an impurressive shindig for Free Comic Book Day in May, and also purroduce the much bigger NC Comicon in Durham in November!
The con was held at the Raleigh Convention Center, which is also the home of Animazement in May! On the beautiful sunny Saturday morning 16 Apurrill we caravanned to the mainland to meet friends for lunch and purroceeded to the convention center. We could already tell from the parking deck and the registration queue that there were several thousand more in attendance than at the purrior Oak City Comicons, which convened at the North Raleigh Hilton!
The many special guests, artists and vendors were in a large bay, with a few panel discussions in uppurr conference rooms. The vendors were selling comic books, books, action figures, plushies, jewelry, and purrop replicas! The many vendors, guests, authors & artists included Tommy Lee Edwards, Howard Chaykin, Richard Case, Jeremy Whitley, Loston Wallace, Waki, Mako Fufu, Louis Small, Marshall Lake, Meesha Walker, Catseye Comics and many others!
Meesha was a June 2015 guest of The Mew, and we have some beautiful art by her, Howard Chaykin and Richard Case in our mewseum! We met some of the artists & vendors at WhatThe Hell?! Con in March! Jeremy is the writer / creator of the wonderful Princeless Comics who Vonny will discuss later in The Mew! We got some nice posters from Catseye Comics, an official con purrint by Chris Warton, and  a paining by Meesha which Petra will discuss later!
In addition to our friend Ob1, among the many friendly familiar faces of the vendors were Chance Palmer, Chapel Hill Comics, Ultimate Comics, and Fight or Flight Comics. Some fan clubs were there too such as the Carolina garrison of the 501st Stormtroopurrs, who were among the hundreds of great cosplayers of all ages, races & genders! The costumes repurrsented diverse characters of comics, games, movies & TV shows, including quite the few catgirls!
The costume contest’s best of show award went to a Zelda cosplayer! After the con we lingered to help Ob1 load his truck, and we feasted upon wings, burgers & chips for suppurr before the return trip back to home! We had a fun time amidst the many talented friendly folks with common hobbies, the con staff did a great job, and we look forward to the NC Comicon which is 6 months away! That will conclude our con reports, and nyow here is Tami to start
our collectibles, game & toy talk with her
review of the Tentacle Bento card game!
Hai! Often after work at the restaurant we like to wind down with the tasty digestifs, snacks and the fun games! Given our fondness for the manga, & anime art, the games, and tentacular treats such as the ika (squid) and taco (octopus) sushi, we were eager to play this beautiful card game! Published by Soda Pop Miniatures, Tentacle Bento is the fast, zany card game that takes about the hour for the 2 – 6 players of ages 16+ to play, but it is not intended for children due to the sexy imagery, innuendo and trope themes!
The premise of the game is that the player is an alien disguised as a student at Takoashi University, intent on capturing the most school girls! The art on the 7″ x 4.25″ x 1″ box offers the beautiful taste of the art on the deck of 108 cards inside, which depict the characters, locations, events and actions. The game was designed by John Cadice, Deke Stela and Chris Birkenhagen, with the illustrations and graphics by Andrea Cofrancesco, Nicole Cipeda, Kris Aubin, Gunship Revolution and Groundbreaker Studios!
The rules brochure is very quick, simple and intuitive to learn. The 44 lovely people include Kitti, Andrea, Mylphee, Syd, Maya, Fin, ZamZam, Nixxie, Hillary and others, depicted in school uniforms or athletic attire. Many of those cards have the same images. The events are the sports fest, talent show, cultural festival and final exam, The 28 gorgeous locations include the various class rooms, dorm rooms, offices, meeting halls, utility spots, labs, sports facilities, and the wet places such as the showers, sauna and pool!
The cards are in suits such as the cute, smart, sporty, wild and sexy suits. The 28 captures include cosplay, cuddle puddle, oral exam, cram session, sticky situation, compromising position, pinning move, dripping wet, towel snap, crossing swords, truth or dare, slippery when wet, exploding uniform and so forth! A convenient plastic card tray is included in the box, too! This is such a whimsical, sexy, pretty fun card game, and perhaps we might play a hand later at tonight’s AfterMew! Now here is Melana to discuss the
Zootopia Judy Hopps & May Bellweather figurines!

Arigato! We very much enjoyed Disney’s animated movie Zootopia, which we reviewed in last month’s Mew! If y’all are unfamiliar with the movie, it is about Judy Hopps the farmer bunnies’ daughter who dreams of becoming the police officer in the vast city of Zootopia, where she meets Nick Wild the foxy street hustler who helps her to investigate certain crimes & mysteries. Meanwhile they have to deal with the the issues of purrejudice & stereotypes in the beautiful, fun, thrilling, poignant tale of an anthropomorphic society!
That is about all I should reveal of the movie’s plot, but I gave it the “A” grade and wanted to purrchase some of the toys, because I like to collect the figures, dolls & statues of the Disney characters! I decided to start with the widdle figurines which are made by Tomy and come two per pack, such as the pack of Judy and May! Ginnifer Goodwin voiced ZPD Officer Judy Hopps in the movie, and this widdle figure captures her zesty optimistic determination! The figure is about 2 7/8″ tall, including her 6/8″ perky rabbit ear pinna!
I think that It is very intricately designed, sculpted and painted figurine, with the faithful portraiture and details, from the inner ear gradient and the detail of her lavender eyes to the seams, pads & textures of her uniform down to the toeless boots & items upon her belt! The points of articulation are her neck, shoulders & hips, and she is well-balanced to stand unassisted! She is not wearing her police hat, but there is a different figurine of her wearing the hat, which comes in the package with her parking meter purrtorl cart.
Zootopia’s Deputy Mayor Bellwether is the petite widdle lamb lady voiced by Jenny Slate in the movie. The only articulation in her 2 1/2″ figure is in the neck, but she is quite meticulous! She is wearing the Dark Blue blazer atop the Dark Gray skirt in the contrast with her bright White wool. From her fluffy pompadour-ish coiffure to her widdle tail and the cloven hooves, she is so nicely designed, sculpted and painted too, and I especially like the sculpt of her eyeglasses with the Brown frames and the transparent lenses!
So, I am pleased with those figures which I have displayed upon the shelf with the Disney princess, heroines and fairy figures that I have collected! Next I might purchase the pack containing Nick and his pal Fennic… and there is also a tempting pack with Nick and his Red convertible sports car! I am done, and now here is Nyssy to tell us about the
Monster High: Great Scarrier Reef Toralei fashion doll!
Hai hai! We are fans of Mattel’s Monster High items, such as the toys, publications and animated tales! I was especially glad to see their most recent animated movie Great Scarrier Reef, which we reviewed in the March Mew! In that movie, some of the students become merfolk when they dive into the magickal portal in the school’s swimming pool  and go to visit Lagoona’s home town! Thusly there are mermaid version dolls of the characters, including Toralei Stripe, the mischievous teenage werecatgirl, who is voiced by America Young in the animated tales!
There have been several variant Toralei dolls, figurines, clothing packages and accessories since her 2011 debut in the animations, and her first doll which we reviewed in the January 2012 Mew! This mermaid version is the same scale as her regular leggy version, and measures 10″ from the tip top of her kitty ear pinna to the end of her fishy tail, excluding the adjustable, hinged translucent tail fin. The tail fin allows her to very easily stand up unassisted! The fin has a diameter of about 7 3/4″ when splayed flat out, and it can add another 31/2″ to her length!
The tail, fin and dorsal spines are of the Lion fish type, which seems appropriate for the catgirl, with the Black & White striped Orange parts, which match her usual complexion and hair colors. The soft fiber hair is pulled into the ponytail style, she wears a cute widdle clear Green seaweedy necklace that matches her eye color, and a removable tank top shirt, so you can change the garment! She is nicely posable, with the 12 points of articulation are in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists. hips, mid-tail, the tail fin hinge, and in the two dorsal spine clusters!
I think that she is nicely sculpted from the supple ears, pouty lips and intricately webbed fingers to her defined abs, inny belly button and the  frond-like splay of fins! She is meticulously painted, with the very detailed pupils, eye shadow, lashes, brows and stripes! The spine stripes glow in the dark too! When perched upon her tippy – tail to stand about 13 1/2″ high with her arms outstretched and her hair flowing amidst the fanned out spines, she is a beautifully impressive nekomimi ningyo (cat – eared mermaid)! Nyow here is Dessy to tell us all about the
Star Wars: The Black Series Ahsoka Tano action figure!

Ahsoka Tano, the former jedi padawan of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series is my favorite Star Wars character! She is so heroic, smart, noble, confident, powerful, inspirational, and very experienced at fighting the villains and monsters! Tara-chan cosplayed as her a few years ago! We have several Ahsoka items, and for our review of Hasbro’s Star Wars: Rebels Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader action figures 2 pack, please see the November 2015 Mew!
I have been eagerly awaiting this 6″ figure of her which is part of Star Wars The Black Series of figures from Hasbro, and it is the 1/12th scale, 31 year old adult version from the Rebels TV series!
Ahsoka is very lithe and lean with the Orange skin, Blue eyes, Violet ips, and White facial markings! As a Togrutan from the planet Shili, on her head are the lovely  horn-like montrals with the waist – length, dangling head – tails which are White with Blue stripes! It is very faithfully and meticulously sculpted and painted!
She is wearing the sleeveless outfit of earthy Maroon hues with the cloth knee-  length skirt and the Tan outer skirt, accessorized by the long fingerless gloves, knee high boots, and 2 light sabers with Silver hilts and translucent Ice Blue blades! The outfit has very intricate detail of the stitching, rings, buttons, creases and fabric folds, trimmed in silver with the widdle hooks upon the hips on which to hang her sabers. One of her sabers is 3 1/8″ long from pommel to tip, and the other is 4″ long with the bent grip.
She has the serious but unimpressed expression, as if sizing up an opponent! The articulation is in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles! She is very posable and well – balanced to stand up unassisted, which is good because a display base isn’t included. I am extremely happy with the action figure, which I will give an “A” as in Ashley Eckstein (who was Ahoska’s voice actress)! That is all of our game and toy talk, and now here is our island’s Purrk Ranger B.B. to present this month’s
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Hai! This is the portion of The Mew in which we honor famous nekomimi characters of myths, movies, TV, comics, literature, internet, games & toys, whether they are part cat, anthropomorphic feline females, shape-shifters, or ladies of fashionably feline style or cattitude to be considered as “honorary” catgirls! Since May the Fourth is Star Wars Day, this month we will shine the spotlight upon the catgirls of long, long ago in a galaxy fur, fur away!
Minka & Niru were among the felinoid folk of the planet Cantros 7 which Leia, Luke & Han investigated in the “Catspaw!” tale in the Star Wars issue #93, which was published by Marvel Comics in late 1984, about the year and a half after the movie Return of the Jedi purremiered! The tale was written by Mary Jo Duffy, drawn by Sal Buscema, inked by Tom Palmer, lettered by Rick Parker, colored by Peter Scotese and edited by Ann Nocenti!
Minka was an X-Wing Fighter pilot with purretty Golden fur, whilst Niru had the lovely White fur and is on the opposite side of the planet’s civil war, which was instigated by an evil catboy named Durne who led both sides to believe that they were fighting against the Empire! Durne’s thugs caught Leia, Luke & Han, but they escaped with Minka, purrvented Durne from shooting Niru, thwarted his evil scheme and convinced both sides to call the truce!
In addition to the Cantrosians, another sentient felinoid species in that galaxy were the Cathar, who have appurred in the Knights of the Old Republic video game from Lucas Arts, and in the various Star Wars series published by Dark Horse, such as the Knights of the Old Republic, Dawn of the Jedi, and Tales of the Jedi! Those (non – canonical) tales occur thousands of years purrior to the events in the Star Wars movies and TV series!
Juhani was a Jedi who waywardly wavered between the light and the dark side of The Force in the Knights of the Old Republic video game published in 2003 by Lucas Arts & Bioware! She has Golden eyes, petite fangs, and the purretty White fur with the braided Brown top – knot coiffure! She was voiced with a sort of Slavic / Eastern European accent by Courtenay Taylor, who recently voiced Nora in the Fallout 4 video game!
Dam-Powl was a character  in Tim Lebbon’s novel Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void, which was published by Del Rey in 2013! It occurs 25,393 years purrior to the events of the movie A New Hope! In those days the Jedi were called the Je’daii, and Dam-Powl was a Je’daii Master at the science temple in the land of Talas on the planet Tython. She was a sensei to the novel’s heroine Lanoree Brock, a ranger on a mission to investigate a dangerous cult!
Another lady of the Cathar breed was Sylvar, a Jedi Knight in Dark Horse’s Tales of the Jedi series! She was sad & lonely but fierce & feisty with her claws & weapons! She originally had the Brown fur but it turned White with the age. There is a thorough page about her at Wookiepedia, the online Star Wars encyclopedia! That is all for this spotlight, but it will shine again next month, and nyow here is Tara-chan to start
our comic book & manga mewsings, with her
review of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #41!
Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony TV series, movies, toys, cards and – and  these comic books published by IDW, nya! it is hard to believe that has been almost the 3.5 years since IDW started to publish them, nya. Issue #41 is purriced at $3.99, with the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by the 10 pages of the ads, and – and I wish all other publishers placed the ads after the tales, nya!
It was written by Katie Cook, illustrated by Andy Prince, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and published by Ted Adams, with the 4 different covers to choose from, nya! The Regular cover is by Andy, the subscription cover is by Amy Meberson the retailer incentive cover is by Sara Richard, and – and there is also the cover which was made for Hot Topic Stores, nya!
It was the tough decision, but I chose Amy’s cover which is the clever homage of Georges Seurat’s famous pointilistic painting of “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”, nya! This issue was narrated in rhyme by Zecora who is one of my favorite characters, nya! It has the neat story book-ish style as something dreary happens to hinder the mood of the ponies, and – and soon the dourness spurreads to everyone’s mood in Ponyville, nya!
In addition to Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity,  Spike and – and Zecora, there are appurrances by many others such as Maud Pie, Big McIntosh, Celestia, Luna, Cadance, Shining Armor, Dr. Hooves, Derpy, DJ Pon-3, Muscle Pony, Cranky Doodle, Plumb Bob, The Wonderbolts, The Cakes, Snips, Snails,  a Breezie, Tank, Angel, Opal, Owlowlicious, Gummy, Winona, Tiberius, Phoenix, and – and many others, nya!
They are in the long queue to purrchase the latest Daring Do adventure novel, nya! There are also numerous gags, homages and- and purrodies of the Blues Brothers, The Marx Brothers, Star Trek and Batman, nya! it was a wonderfully written and – and  illustrated, with several full – page pics such as the Ponyville map, nya! I will give this issue the grade of an “A” as in Amy, Andy and – and Adams, nya! Nyow I will continue the pony report with my review of
My Little Pony: Friends Forever #27, nya!

In this series, there are pairings of characters who do not often hang out together, with amewsing, poignant results, nya! For example, In issue #23 issue Applejack went camping with Fluttershy, in #24 Rarity helped Gilda Griffin’s sports team, in #25 Twilight Sparkle helped Rainbow Dash to find her purrloined wings, in #26 Shining Armor went on the diplomatic mission with Blue Blood, and – and this time Pinkie Pie tries to help Granny Smith at the farm, nya!
It was written by Christina Rice, illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, assistantly colored by Lauren Perry, lettered by Neil, edited by Bobby, and – and published by Ted, with the choice of the either the regular cover by Tony Fleecs or the the subscription cover by Agnes, nya! In this tale, Granny Smith fell down and – and hurt her hip, so she is frustrated because it is the busy  first day of the cider season, so Pinkie Pie volunteers to assist her with the chores, nya!
Also appurring are Applejack, Apple Bloom, Big McIntosh, the medical doctor and Granny’s elderly friends, nya. This was another beautifully illustrated tale so faithful to the TV series, with the advantages of the comics medium, the good balance of comedic and – and poignant aspects, and – and tasty treats to tempt my tummy such as the cherry pie and – and the cobbler, nya!
Nyow I have the food cravings in my tummy, but I will try to wait until the luau, nya. Well, I will give this issue the high grade of an “A as in Applebuck, and – and as in my aniticipation for the next issue which will star Celestia and – and the Cutie Mark Crusaders, nya! That will conclude the pony report, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Bunnibuns who wants to tell us about

Starfire #10 & 11, nya!

Arigato! As our favorite DC comic of the past year, the bright ‘n beautifully illustrated Starfire combines supurr heroic action and slice-of-life moments for the endearing ensemble cast of characters in Key West! It is pretty, fun & charming with the dash of the amusing, sexy romantic moments that are not too dark, gritty or somber. The wonderful recurring cast includes Koriand’r alias Starfire, Atlee alias the supurr heroine Terra, Sheriff Stella Gomez, her brother Sol and his purrtner Rave both of the US Coast Guard, Beth the dolphin and Syl’Khee the purring alien criter!
In the previous issue, Syl’Khee stayed in Key West with Sol & Rave whilst Kori, Stella & Atlee took the vacation trip to her subterranean homeland of Strata, but the vacation was violated when evil King Neal-Tok and his army of monsters invaded the place, and Kori mysteriously passed out upon arrival! That brings us up to issue #10’s 20 page tale of “Rumble Down Below”! It was written by Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, illustrated by Elsa Charretier, colored by Hi-Fi, lettered by Tom Napolitano and edited by Paul Kaminski under group editor Eddie Berganza!
The beautiful jubilant cover is art by Amanda Conner & Paul Mounts, and the issue includes 12 pages of ads, which unfortunately disrupt the narrative flow and any suspense of the tale, but the placement of the ads is the only thing I dislike about this brilliant issue, as Atlee’s friend Aurla determines that Kori passed out because she absorbed too much energy from their subterranean sun, but soon she is back in action to help Atlee & Stella to battle the invaders! Meanwhile in the Atlantic ocean, Syl’Khee’s empathic presence has a rather frisky affect upon Sol & Rave!
Then things take the more leisurely festive turn in  issue #11’s tale of “Revelries and Revelations”, which has the same creative team, $2.99 price and number of pages, plus the choice of a variant cover by John Romita Jr, Scott Hanna & Brad Anderson! Kori, Stella & Terra have been enjoying the days of mewsic, dancing, tasty libations, alluring fashions, catnaps and carousing! This leads to the delightfully beautiful time in the special bikinis for the swim and massage at the spectacular subterranean spa! Meanwhile back in Key West, Syl’Khee take’s Sol’s car for a spin!
The characters, scenery & FX are so gorgeously rendered with the splendid expurressions, dynamic poses & lovely details of the fashions & mecha! The composition of the panels is wonderful to tell the fun & captivating narrative, with excellent fonts for the dialogue, chapter titles & sound FX! I especially like the bright saturation of the colors & light, which accentuates the peppy, happy sexy, whimsical quality of the characters, dialogue, plot & pace, so I will give both issues an “A” as in Atlee! Now I will turn The Mew over to Ilyana who wants to tell us about Marvel Comics’s

Pasty Walker, A.K.A. HellCat! #4
Hai! Patsy is one of our favorite supurr heroines and her new series is our favorite Marvel Comic of the past year! It has been the time of mixed luck for Patsy, who lost her job at She Hulk’s law firm,  and home whilst not getting a dime from the comic book about her which is published by her rival Hedy, but she found the new home and roommate Ian, a reunion with old friend Tom, purrogress with the launch of her employment agency for supurr powered people who need jobs, and the satisfaction she gets from visiting with her fellow supurr heroes and from pouncing upon villains!
Recently  Patsy purrsued Bailey the magickal shoplifter who works for Casiolena the exiled Asgardian sorceress, who has been recruiting an army, which brings us up to  issue #4 which is purriced $3.99 and its 28 pages are compurrised of the 22 page tale, the recap / credits page, 3 pages of the ads, 3 pages of comments by the author & readers with photos of pets, and the purreview page for issue #5! It was written by Kate Leth, illustrated by Brittney L. Williams, colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Clayton Cowles, edited by Wil Moss, and assistantly edited by Chris Robinson!
The delightful  cover art by Brittney depicts Patsy spinning upon the dance floor to clobber Mad Dog with the helicopter kick! Mad Dog does not appurr in the tale, but that image is just the taste of the peppy spirit that Patsy, her friends & creative team bring to the readers of all ages! The tale begins as she visits the tatttoo purrlor of her artistic, half Skrull friend Tara Tam who needs the new receptionist! Tara’s pal Howard the Ducki s there too, and Patsy winds gets the cute Hellcat tat on her back! This might be a good mew job, but Patsy has an impurrtant legal meeting to attend!
Unfortunately while on the way to She Hulk’s office to argue with Hedy and her lawyers, Patsy is delayed by another duel with Bailey, but this Patsy wins, captures Bailey and takes the victorious selfie photo! This purrks up Patsy’s spirits, especially when her friend Brunnhilde the valkyrie and her pegasus horse Aragorn arrive! Bailey starts to seem more sympathetic and discloses the location of Casiolena’s secret lair which they purroceed to, but appurrehending the villain and her gang will mean that Patsy will be late for the meeting! It is the tough cat’s life for the heroine!
It is such the charming fun tale with the purrfect slice – of – life mix of the action, humor, and character developments! The art is gorgeous, the colors are bright, and occasionally the art has the adorable chibi style! There are often numerous neko elements and motifs in the tales, including the cute purrse and Tara’s leopurrd purring pants! Not only are the characters so magnificently rendered, but their dialogue and the author’s narration are very pleasantly snappy, and the genki enthusied spurrit continues amongst Kate’s replies to the readers’ comments and photos!
I will give the issue the high grade of an “A” as in The Avengers team of which Patsy used to belong, and I hope that she will have much success with her employment, social life, legal woes and crime fighting! I am very eagerly looking forward to the next issue of Pasty Walker, A.K.A. HellCat!, and when I get all caught up on my stack of recent comic books, I hope soonly to read the new Vampirella series which is written by Kate Leth! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Formality, who wants to tell us about yet another comic book which is illustrated by Brittney L. Williams–
Goldie Vance #1!
Hai! 16 year old Marigold “Goldie” Vance is the very peppy and highly inquisitive, titular detective girl in the mid 1960’s who assists house detective Walter Tooley at the Crossed palms Resort in St. Pascal Florida, when she is not valet parking the lodgers’ cars in this totally awesome four-issue mini series published by Boom! In this great first issue we are introduced to them and her dad the manager, and Cheryl Lebeux the concierge, who Rob Ferber the other parking valet wants to date, but he is short on funds after his car broke down in a race against Skunk Hess!
What Rob then regretfully dishonestly does for funds involves a necklace stolen from a mysterious lodger named Mr. Ludwig, which is central to the delightful plot of the uninterrupted 22 page tale, which was written by  the Ignatz & Eisner awards – winner Hope Larson who has authored Chiggers, Salamander Dream, Gray Horses, and the graphic novel adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time! It was illustrated by Brittney whose Hellcat we love, colored by Sarah Stern, lettered by Jim Campbell, edited by Dafna Plebon & Shannon Watters with the issue’s design by Jillian Crab!
The 32 page issue is priced $3.99 and also includes a page of Shannon’s cordial comments, 2 sketches by Brittney art & Katy Farina’s cute widdle doodles; the 6 page preview of the Lumberjanes Gotham Academy mini-series which looks wonderful, and the 3 pages of ads. It is all sammiched betwixt the choice of 4 different covers: the main wraparound cover by Brittney, the variant cover by Marguerite Sauvage, the unlocked retailer cover by Jen Wang, the Emerald City Comicon cover by Kat Leyh, and the Cards Comics & Collectibles exclusive cover by Craig Rosseau!
The characters, fashions & scenery are so bright & pretty with the great sense of community at the resort, which is permeated by Goldie’s smart, snappy genki, determination! There are cool looking cars too, such as the Bellotti Scorpio X-35 that Goldie “borrows” to race against Skunk in order to win back the necklace, but I should not spoil much more of the captivating, fun plot! I especially like the character poses & expressions, such as when she leans across the desk to chat with Cheryl, and when she whips out her notepad while detectively questioning the witnesses!
The tale has a great graphic narrative structure composed across the panels of the various shapes & sizes, including two 1/2 page pics and two full- page pics, and like Tara-chan, I am so glad that the tale was not interrupted by the ads! I think this was such a superb comic book, to which i will give the five star-fish rating while I very eagerly await the 2nd issue! Now here is Captain Vonny to tell us about another favorite comic book–

Princeless: Make Yourself #1!

Arigato, nya! We have had the great oppurrtunity at the cons to meet author Jeremy Whitley whose Princeless series and the spin-off series of Raven the Pirate Princess are among my favorite comic books, nya! He also writes some of the pony comics, nya! Thusly I have been eagerly awaiting this latest Princeless story arc which began with Make Yourself #0 which is set sometime after Princeless Book 4: Be Yourself #4, nya! This lovely, fun $3.99 issue from Action Lab has the uninterrupted 24 page tale which is rated “E” for everyone, followed by the 4 pages of the ads, nya.
The tale was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Emily martin, lettered & colored by Brett Gruning, and stars Adrienne the runaway purrincess, her friend Bedelia the dwarven blacksmith, and Sparky the dragon fly to the snowy dwarven land of Northhold where meanwhile Bedelia’s cousins Benna, Senna, Gretta, Delia & Mox are dragon hunting; whilst in the third plot thread Kira the werewolf chief’s daughter and Adrienne’s brother purrince Devin ride horses across the plains in search for his missing mother, but instead they meet Prince Wilcome and his elfin friend Tempest, nya!
I think that it is such a delightfully fun tale, but fiesty Kira has not been having the fun time because she threw up after the horse ride and she hates elves, nya! Devin is quickly captured by Tempest, but has the more enjoyable time when she shows him delicious recipes made from the forest ingredients, nya! Wilcome is the fugitive wanted by Devin and Adrienne’s dad, but hopefully by traveling with Tempest, Kira and Devin will result in a safe journey, nya. However, although it is the happy reunion for Bedeila and her cousins, the other dwarves are not so cordial to Sparky, nya!
The plot has wonderful mythology, continuity, pacing, snappy dialogue, thrilling action and comedic situations with the dash of drama and romance! There are so many wonderfully, strongly-written smart, tough heroines in the series, whose self – determination defies the misogynistic attitudes and stereotypes! The characters, scenery and FX are so beautifully rendered too, and each issue leaves me quite eager for the next, so I will give this issue the “A” as in Adrienne, and I am also eagerly awaiting the next issue of her friend rave’s series, nya! Nextly I would like to discuss

Hero Cats of Stellar City #10 , nya!

Created by author Kyle Puttkammer and Introduced in the Galaxy Man mini-series from by Galactic Press, the team of Hero Cats is compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Rocket the Tabby, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat, and her brother Bandit the tuxedo cat who purrotect the city from criminals, monsters & disasters, nya! They later appurred in Hero Cats #0 in 2013, which was revised and relaunched by Action Lab as Hero Cats #1 in 2014, nya!
That year at Heroes Con, we got a sketch of Cassiopeia by the comic’s penciller Marcus Williams, and in Action Lab’s 2014 Halloween Comicsfest issue, the cats first met the evil crows, nya! In issue #7 the cats fought the Crow King and his minions who attacked the city which resulted in the long story arc that ended in issue #9 and overlapped into the Midnight Over Stellar City mini-series issues #1-3, but nyow the cats are in the new story arc as they travel around the world, nya!
Actually that is all of them except for bandit who is away on his sepurrate adventure, nya.  Rated “E” for everyone, Hero Cats of Stellar City #10 is purriced at $3.99 and has the uninterrupted 22 page tale plus the 3 bonus pages, and the 3 pages of ads, nya! It was written by Kyle, pencilled by Marcus, inked by Ryan Sellers, lettered by Shannon Butt , colored by Omaka Schultz, edited by Keek Stewart, and it stars Cassiopeia, Belle, Mdnight, Rocco, Rocket, Ace and their purrincess friend who visit the wild west, nya!
Although their hot air balloon crashes into the desert, they hope for adventure in the town of Coyote Canyon, and the wish is granted when the railroad train to Stellar City is raided by an outlaws who robs the passengers, but did not expect to be purrsued by Hero Cats, nya! There is much beautifully illustrated whimsical fun, and the 3 bonus pages have the neat photo, illustration & notes, so this was another great issue which I will give an “A” as in Ace, nya! I am all done, and nyow here is TsuTsu-chan to tell us about
Tomboy #4, nya!!
Arigato! In addition to Action Lab’s comics for fans of all ages, their Danger Zone impurrint of titles that are aimed at the mature readers, such as Zombie Tamp, Vampblade and Tomboy! Tomboy
is rated T+ for the mature readers, because it is the gory, violent crime story, as a girl named Addison Brody attends the purrivate school and practices her mewsic by day whilst at night she is the vigilante in the neko mask who stalks the criminals who are involved in the medical pharmaceutical conspiracy!
Issue #4 is priced $3.99 and has the 22 page story of “Bloodborn Ecstacy” written and illustrated by Mia Goodwin who used to draw Princeless, and colored by Michelle Wong, followed by the 6 pages of the ads, plus the front cover art by Fanny Hagdahl Sorebo! After Addison’s friends Jessica and owen rehearse at the school conservatory, Jessica expresses her concerns for Addison’s emotional state, unaware that she is the vigilante. Addison’s dad the police medical examiner is unaware too!
He does not realize that she is who carved up the latest victim, who was a doctor in the conspiracy of the unsafe drugs! He and other detectives investigate the disemboweled corpse whose eyes were plucked out and whose blood was used to paint a message on the wall. Meanwhile, Addison has the surreal visions and encounters with her fae and  angel friends, but she is not the only brutal killer, because Owen’s mom is an evil conspirator, and uses the pruning shears on more than the flowers!
Some of the imagery might be gruesome, but I think the art is quite beautifully rendered, with the great character designs, poses, expressions, fashion details, and the use of the color and light to help set the mood for the captivating conversations, incidents, the school, office and crime scenes, and the fantasy elements! Now here is Myayr to tell us about another of Action Lab’s Danger Zone titles,
Zombie Tramp #20!
Mary Nyan:
Arigato! Zombie Tramp stars Janey Belle the poor abused purrostitute who became the supurr zombie girl! She has sharp fangs, regenerative powers, the ability to swap bodies with other people and control the minds of other zombies. She wears skimpy attire, hungers for human flesh and craves revenge upon her former pimp! She first appurred in 2 mini-serieses, the current series and in the team – up with Vampblade! Issue of the current series #20 has the 26 pages including the uninterrupted 20 page tale sammiched betwixt the choice of 6 variant covers.
The tale was written & drawn creator Dan Menzoa, colored by Marcelo Costa and lettered by Adam Wollet, who lettered the Vampblade team-up and the Halloween Comics Fest issue! The covers are by Dan Mendoza, TM Chu and our friend Andrew Pepoy! He was a guest for our July 2010 Mew and we have some of his art in our mewseum! His regular version of the cover art depicts Janey in the lingerie of the bustier, garters, hose, heels & opurra gloves as purrches upon the tombstone to flog her chained victim… whereas in the risque version she is topless!
This purrticular scene does not occur in the tale, but does exemplify how the tale is not for widdle kitties, due to the harsh language, the bit of nudity & gory supurrnatural violence! It begins with the flashback of Janey’s hellish out – of – body expurrience at her father’s dilapidated cabin, which has since been replaced by another family’s new house. The house might be nicer, but therein resides family including a bitter girl named Eve who mourns her deceased sister Bea. Eve uses the Ouija board, rituals & spells to contact Bea, but insteadly contacts Janey’s spurrit.
Things take the bloodier turn after a ritual swaps their souls. Janey’s spurrit hijacks Eve’s body, attacks the purrents and hits the road on the vengeful quest. Meanwhile at a biker bar in Florida, an actress named Holly wants to be unbothered during a meal when she senses that Janey is near. When other diners pester her for photos, she retaliates with gunfire, kidnaps the poor customers, and drives towards Miami to feed them to Janey, who is there to kill the pimp. Following the tail are the full page pin-up pic of Janey by Ryan Kinkaid and the 4 pages of ads.
I had the mixed feelings about the tale. I like the zombie horror sub genre in novels, comics, games, movies & TV shows; I am not purrudish about erotic horror fiction, and I am all for Janey attaining justice against the criminals who harmed her in life. However, it is the bit darker than I purrfur, and my heart went out to Eve’s family who has lost Bea. Although Eve’s anger over the loss of Bea is understandable, she has been unfairly mean to her purrents. I have no sympathy for Janey who killed Eve’s purrrents, nor for Holly, who is a murderer and kidnappurr.
The image of the sobbing, captive victims chained in the back of Holly’s armored truck amidst other body purrts was quite the rough sight, and we hope that the victims can escape whilst the justice is swiftly meted upon the fiends! Nyow we will go from the undead in Florida to the demons in California as Nya-sensei tells us about
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #25!
Arigato! It is hard to believe that Dark Horse Comics’ canonical Season 10 of Buffy is nyow 2 years old and is nearing the finale! Issue #25 is purriced at $3.99 and has the 22 page tale of “In Pieces on the Ground, Conclusionr” plus the 4 pages of the ads, and the 2 pages of comments by the editor & readers! The tale was purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon & scripted by Christos Gage!
I am purrticularly fond of Whedon’s comics, movies & TV shows, and Gage’s Buffy, Angel, and Avengers Academy series which we miss!
It was illustrated by Megan Levens, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Freddye Miller & Jim GIbbons, assistantly edited by Spencer Cushing with the mane cover art by Steve Morris, the variant cover art by Rebekah Isaacs & Dan; the issue’s graphical design by Justin Couch, and Christianne Goudreau was the the digital art technician! I should also mentoin that Mike Richardson is the publisher at Dark Horse which has its 30th birthday, with Dark Horse Day on June 4th!
To put that into historical purrspective,1986 was the great year for movies such as Aliens, Big Trouble in Little China, Castle in the Sky, Crocadile Dundee, Dirty Pair: Project Eden, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Labyrinth, My Little Pony: The Movie, Project A-Ko, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Top Gun… but I digress! Back to Buffy! Purreviously in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10, Buffy’s group, the Magic Council, and the governments have united against the demon invasion and are trying to close the dimensional purrtals!
In issue #25, Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Giles, Spike, Andrew & Xander worry that only Dawn can shut the purrtal, which they all jump through to fight the vast Anharra demon army and their giant leader Kerberon! Fortunately, Dawn has the goddess-like power there! When she easily disintegrates Kerberon, the army flees, but after the agonizing decision, she and Xander stay behind in the hell dimension to shut the purrtal while the others return home to hunt down the evil supurr demons such as The Mistress and The Soul Glutton!
However, little does Buffy realize that the invisible, non – corpurreal ghost of Anya the Vengeance Demon is in their midst… but I should not further spoil the plot by revealing what she and her boss D’Hoffryn do next! We do not see the rest of the Magic Council or Willow’s friend Lake in this issue, but that is okay because it is so brimming with the magickal combat action, the tearfully emotional situation, the humorous moments, and the major plot developments which are so beautifully rendered! Nyow Ihere is my sister to discuss
Angel & Faith Season 10 #25

Hai! Purreviously in this story arc, Drusilla and her evil vampurric minions have been serving the evil demon lord Archaeus, who purreviously tried to control Angel and Spike in the “Old Demons” arc of Buffy Season 10 #16-18. He wants Nadira to help Magic Town accept his brood’s invasive purresence, but she and Angel, Faith, Fred, Koh, Sophronia, Lavinia, Tricia & Parker fought them! Archaeus has tried to contain the magick within an animated ancient statue, and things got further complicated when Fred transformed again into the dark goddess Illyria!
That brings us to issue #25 which concludes Season 10 of Angel & Faith! It has 5 pages of ads, the page of the readers’ & editor’s comments, and the 22 pages of  “A Tale of Two Families Part Five”, which was purrduced by Whedon, scripted by Victor Gischler, illustrated by Will Conrad, colored by Michelle Madsen, lettered by Richard & Jimmy, edited by Jim & Freddye, and assistantly edited by Spencer with graphic design by Justin, digital artistry by Christianne, the mane cover art by Scott Fischer, and the variant cover art by Mike Norton & Michelle!
Much of this issue is the big battle royale as the heroes and many residents of Magic Town battle Archaeus and his army in the street! There are several large panels and an impurressive two –  page spurread to showcase the huge crowds in the melee! Faith wastes no time in going after Drusilla, and it is Rory the bartender’s finest hour as his pals dog pile upon Archaeus! Nadira has an especially significant scene, and she is one of my favoritest characters who I wish had her very own series! However, there is a tragic outcome for some of her friends.
I should not spoil too much more of the plot, but I will say that I thought the final 6 pages were a purrticularly great way to conclude season 10! This was yet another beautiful, suspenseful, thrilling issue with significant developments, to conclude Angel & Faith Season 10 in issue #25! The characters are so supurrbly rendered with the intricate portraiture, anatomy, expurressions, poses, choreography, purrspectives, the clothes’ detail, fabric folds & drapurry, the intricate architectural detail, the use of color, light & fonts in the pages’ great compurrsitions!
I will give the Buffy & Angel comics the grade of an “A” as in Andrew, Angel and Archaeus! We still have a few more issues of Buffy’s comic until her 10th season ends, so I am looking forward to those and hopefully 11th seasons! I hope that we might see more of Aluwyn, Kennedy, Satsu, Harmony, Clem, Riley, Samantha, Dylan, Billy, Devon, Katie, Sky, Anaheed, Dowling, Clive, Julie, Olivia, Morgan, Vicky, Lake, and Spike’s insectoid crew! That is all for my reviews, and nyow to continue our reviews of Dark Horse comics, here is Mie-sensei to discuss
Elfquest: The Final Quest #14
Arigato! So like, thus far in Elfquest: The Final Quest, it has been the very tumultuous time of metamorphosis for the elves and the humans, especially due to the onslaught by the army of a human warmonger, whilst there have been cultural and metaphysical changes for the elves, especially due to the prolonged psychic affects of their ancient forbearers’ crystalline palace!
There have been ravages, ruins, retaliations, romances, and reunions aplenty… and revelations which have nearly driven the runaway Chief Cuttter raving mad! So like the Wolfrider tribe has been searching for him in the forest, which brings us to issue #14, although I suppose that it might be considered the 15th issue, if you include the 2013 Special that preceded issue #1!
Published by Dark Horse, it is purriced at $3.99 and has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of previews. It was written by Wendy and Richard Pini, scripted and illustrated by Wendy, colored by Sonny Strait, lettered by Nate Piekos and edited by Spencer Cushing, with the issue’s graphic design by Sarah Terry, and digital wizardry by Allyson Haller!
At their home in the Father Tree Holt, Ember is the acting chief who reminisces with Treestump, Dlearbrook, Strongbow, Pike, Aroree, Newstar, Yun and Ohler; whilst  Redlance, Nightfall, Skywise, Leetah, Dre-man, their wolves, and pony search for Cutter and his weary old wolf Filcher, who have calmed down, survived an encounter with another pack, and continue to wander.
Strongbow laments his separation from Moonshade, who has chosen the ethereal palace lifestyle over the Wolfrider ways; he sees this as rejecting their natural tradition, whilst she sees it as embracing the far more ancient lifestyle of ther ancestors, the High Ones. Meanwhile, Venka has recovered from an enemy human’s gunshot and has a terse chat with Two-Edge.
So like, she infers that his blacksmithing prowess has unwisely contributed to the aggressive humans’ weapons, and that the spirit of Two-Edge’s evil mother Winnowill has fueled her father Rayek’s retaliatory rage, which will escalate the war, fur shur! This is totally not the chat that Two-Edge hoped to have with her, amidst his fragile mental state and unrequited love!
I should not reveal much more of the plot, but what happens nextly to Cutter and Filcher is quite tensely dramatic! There is a great balance of the drama, charm and action amidst the profound developments of the plot, characters and mythos, which are like totally magnificently rendered, from the beautiful characters and critters to the lush scenery and luminous effects!
That includes Newstar’s ankle – length Golden Blonde hair, Clearbrook’s Platinum Blonde braids, Venka’s silky smooth straight Black hair, Ember’s fiery Red hair in the top knot, and her mom Leetah’s luscious Auburn curls! I love the totally awesome tribal couture of Newstar, Nightfall and Clearbrook; and the diaphanous palatial gowns of Moonshade and Ahdri, fur shur!
The art and story also benefit from the variety of the panels, including the full-page pics and a two-page spread! Elfquest continues to be a great joy to read, and I am very eager for the next issue, and I am especially curious what Leetah’s sister, Strongbow and Moonshade’s kids, and the Wavedancer tribe are up to! Now I will turn The Mew over to Ellie for her review of
A Centaur’s Life vol. 8!
Hai! A Centaur’s Life is one of our favoritest manga series! It is such the beautiful, charming, slice – of – life modern urban fantasy in a world populated by the centaurs, fauns, kemonomimi, angels; the dracon, unicorn, snake, frog people, were tigers, other species of people and sightings of aliens! It is a thoroughly designed world, with intricate cultural, historical & scientific notes, beautiful character and scenic and the endearing characters such as Himeno the centaur, her family, friends and other students!
Thus far we have met Himeno’s purrents, aunt, uncle, widdle niece Shino-chan, and Shino’s best friend Maki-chan! Hime’s best friends are Omaki the satyr girl, and Nozomi the Dracon girl, Their high school classmates include Suu he snake girl, Akechi the satyr girl, Inukai her unihorn girlfriend, and Tama the angelic class president, who has four widdle kitten girl sisters, including youngest Sue-chan and triplet sisters Chinami, Chiho & Chigusa! We have also met Eri & fellow merfolk students at another school!
The manga written & drawn by Ken Murayama was originally published in Japan in as Centaur No Nayami by Tokuma Shoten Publishing, and this English translated version is published by Seven Seas. It was translated by Greg Moore, adapted by Holly Kolodziejczak, lettered & laid out by Jennifer Skarupa, edited by Adam Arnold, proof read by Patrick King with the logo design by Courtney Williams & cover design by Nicky Lim! The production manager is Lissa Pattilo and the publisher is Jason DeAngelis!
It is suggested for older teen readers of ages 16+, perhaps due to nudity, sexual topics, the language & violence. Although the tale of the friends tends to be rather whimsical and pleasant, like most folks their lives have the frustrations, and like most worlds there is often fear, poverty, crime & war. Volume 8  is priced $13.99 US & $15.99 Canada and its 162 pages include chapters 45-52 of the Black & White manga, the metafictional afterward, 2 color pages, and several pages of cultural and historical notes!
The wraparound color cover art depicts Himeno in her swim suit! The chapters are nonlinear but overlapping with flashbacks and crossing paths. For example, whilst Hime, Kyoko & Nozomi spy upon Suu & Omaki who are on the date, they are also spied upon by the government agents! The governments can be rather oppressive, but the surveillance is amewsing! That plot intersects with Tama & Omaki who are also on a date, while we also see what Tama’s sisters and their artist dad are up to at home!
Hime, Omaki & Nozomi later hang out at home and the discussion turns to Hime’s Red hair which is rare for a Japanese centaur. This leads to the tale of her family’s ancient  history which involved a kidnapped princess and the violent warfare that resulted amidst her rescue! Sadly we witness other brutal tales of war across the ages, including an executive’s remembrance of his youth in World War II concentration camp , and the more modern conflict in which Suu met her adopted refugee sister Sediba.
This stems from the gang’s discussion of siblings, with a brief appearance by Shino, which occurs after Tama’s sisters play with a friendly dog who wants to keep Sue-chan who is also coveted by Kawamoto’s widdle sister when she wanders away into the city park! A more amewsing, magickal  tale of combat has Hime, Suu, Kyoko, Nozomi & Tama imagined in the bikini armor & costumes for a D&D fantasy type of dungeon crawl as they battle monsters, including the slime monster that dissolves their attire!
They have an interesting discussion of the ethics of killing animal & humanoid creatures. Were that not enough, Koma & and his mermaid girlfriend are on a date too, but it is the difficult process given the anatomical differences for the mermaid on land! In pite of the numerous hardships faced by the characters, A Centaur’s Life continues to be a beautifully illustrated and captivating joy to read, and I will give it a grade of an “A” as in Akechi! That will conclude the comics & manga topic, but now it is time for

Surfing Magazine’s 2016 Swimsuit Issue!
Hai! I wish to praise Surfing Magazine’s 2016 Swimsuit Issue which is graced by inspirational models & athletes such as surfers Coco Ho, from Hawaii, Malia Manuel from Hawaii, Tia Blanco from California, Nikki Van Dijk from Australia, and models Kara Del Toro from Texas, Anna Herrin from Pennsylvania, Scarlett Leithold from California and cover girl Juliana Herz from Costa Rica! It was a 10 day photo shoot as they saild aboard the 44 ft catamarans to the beautiful Bahamas and to the British Virgin islands!
The lovely ladies model many beautiful bikinis & maillots amidst the land & water scenery, on the sand, rocks, boats, surf boards, and some underwater photos! There are animals too, such as the sharks, iguanas and pigs! The photos are mostly full – page pics &  two – page spreads!, and the pictorials were splendidly photographed by France Duque & Corey Wilson, with the styling by Mimi Cuttrell, hair stylist / make-up artist Gabriella Moreno, senior make-up artist Jeanne Jeffries, and produced by Kellie Cuttrall!
She is the magazine’s sales & marketing coordinator, and wrote the cordial introduction to the issue too! The issue’s text includes profiles of the surfers, models, photographers, and the locations, plus the information about the clothes, sandals, jewelry, accessories, sunscreen & snacks. There is a small photo featuring France in the Red bikini and a small hoto of Corey with the ladies! The 9″ x 10 7/8″ issue has 92 pages including the covers, it is priced $7.99, and the beautiful full color photos are so richly vibrant!

Now here is Ne-chan to tell us about another beautiful magazine,
Faerie Magazine #34!

This Spring issue is priced $10.95 in the USA, $12.95 in Canada, and has the 100 full color pages (including the covers)!

Jill Gleeson offers lovely words and photos about flowers in Holland, author Timothy Schaffert contributes a nifty article on peonies, editor at large Lauren Stover discusses botanical oils, Karima Cammell shows the steps to make pretty crepe paper pansies, and Lisa Hoffman gives the instructions on how to knit a splendid cowl to wear, whilst Laren Stover’s story and Rahil Ahmad’s photos accompany Ravinder Bhogal’s yummy recipes!
This issue is a floral fiesta including arrangement advice from florist Larisa Minerva, Paul Himmelein’s discussion of dew, Ashley Wahl’s tales of her harp, tales by Sandra J. Lindow, poems by Alice Hoffman, an illustrated poem by Brian & Wendy Froud, plus more photos of beautiful couture of the floral motif, and a page of readers’ comments! additions to Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art!
Arigato, nya! For those who are here for the first time, the Art Galleries 1-7 display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their kind purrmissions, nya! The most recent pics are on the lowermost row of the widdle “thumbnail” portions of the pics, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya! In our freshly opened Guest Gallery 4 are purroud to purrsent the “Toadstool Fairy” by Rebecca Brogden, who was our September 2009 guest, nya!
The faerie looks so purretty, purrky ‘n peppy purrched upon the spongy comfy mushroom as she poses with a butterfly friend, nya! Her off-shoulder, bare-midriff outfit has the Reddish Brown hues to match the shroom, with the Green pendant & ruffled short skirt to match the wings & foliage, nya! Then we have Rebecca’s “Kitsune ACEO” which depicts the purretty, purrky fox girl who wistfully anticipaties the beautiful day, nya! She has the White – tipped tail to match her lush hair and lovely ears, in cute contrast with the vivid hot Pink cropped top and the Blue jeans shorts, nya!
Then we have Rebecca’s illustration of “Nystia Nightshade” who is her character in Mike’s RPG, nya! Nystia is an orphaned, outcast vampurric faerie who is an expurrt alchemist, powerful mage, and sheriff of her small town, nya! She is 5′ 8″ tall, 135 lbs, and 129 years old but looks as if she is maybe 30, nya! She is wearing the beautiful sexy outfit of the Black sleeveless tights with the Pink corset, iridescent Blue-Green thigh highs & detached sleeves, to accent her Blue eyes, Violet gradient hair, and shimmering wings as she glows in the misty forest, nya!
After that are Rebecca’s illustrations of Nystia’s companions “Herman, Cecil & Jonny” who are NPCs in that RPG, nya! Herman (top) & Cecil (middle) are fellow faeries and are deputies in Nystia’s posse, whilst Jonny (bottom) is a mewsic idol who they rescued from an evil demon lord who caught him and his sister Rosebud, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen the pics of their other friends, nya? Rebecca used pens & markers to render the fairy and kitsune; and used Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop CS6 and a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet to render Nystia, Cecil, Herman & Jonny, nya!
Then we are pleased to display the painting of a “Jetpack Girl” by Meesha DJ Walker who was the June 2015 Guest of The Mew, nya! Meesha used the
gouache to paint this image of her character named Flylicity who zooms away from a fresh combat victory, nya! Flylicity used her jetpack and supurr ice claw attack to defeat a fierce aerial villain, who appurrently had claws too, nya! Thus, she has some dueling scars and ripped clothes, but the defeated enemy that she is leaving behind is in the much worse condition, nya!
In Gallery 7 is Mike’s fan art of the “Twin Trek catgirls”, nya! Since this year is the  50th anniversary of Star Trek, and because may is the start of the Gemini zodiac sign, Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to render this pic of the twin Caitians who were purrtayed by sisters Katie & Kellie Cockrell in the movie Star Trek Into Darkness, nya!
In this pic they are wearing bikinis  for the picnic upon the beach at night near Starfleet Headquarters and the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy the anniversary fireworks, nya!
Then in Gallery 7 we are especially pleased to unveil Mike’s wedding purrtrait of “Elizabeth & Rebecca”, nya! It was in May of 2010 when Becca came to our island and became Lizzy’s house mate & business purrtner at the health spa, and later they became the romantic purrtners too, so we have been so happy for their marriage, nya! Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to render this pic of them wearing the wedding kimonos accompanied by their cats Onyx & Obsidian in the coastal garden before the ceremony, nya!
After that is Mike’s bit of Marvel Comics’ Magneto purrody / fan art of “Magneko, the Mewtant Mistress of Magnetism”, who is using her supurr magnetic powers to open the cans of tasty cat food, which are causing the craving in my tummy, nya! She appurropurriately has the Tabby “M” on her helmet which matches her cape, gloves and bikini-like costume, nya! The idea was inspired by Meesha’s sketch of a female magneto, and Mike used the pencil, pens, Photoshop CS2 and the mouse, to render this illustration, nya!
Finally for this month in Gallery 7 is Mike’s illustration of a “Space Golf Catgirl”, nya! In this scene, Starfleet officer Alana Shepurrd eagles the ball into the crater to finish the round at 9 under pawr in the tournyament at the Cattyshack Golf Club on the Furra Mewro Highlands of The Moon, nya! Mike used Derwent pencil, Micron pens, Prismacolor pencils & markers, Copic markers, Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to render this illustration for our friend Meesha, nya! So, what do y’all think of the art, nya?
the cat lady sings…
Oh I hope that Lizzy and Becca are having the perfect honeymoon, and I hope that they will be so joyfully surprised to see the portrait of them amidst those garden blossoms when they return!
The twin trek catgirls seem identical except for their coiffure, jewelry and bikini straps, but I am not sure which is Katie and which is Kellie, but I suppose that Captain Kirk did not mind, heehee!
Office Shepurrd looks so very happy with that eagle on the 18th hole, and I like her Pink, Black & White environmental suit with the matching golf bag that has the kitty – eared club covers!
Magneko’s outfit is not only quickly ready for the beach, but the helmet would be prudently safe for the bike ride to there, and perhaps the short cape could double as the towel or the pareo!
Flylicity is rather victoriously tough with that jet pack and those super  ice claws! Hmm… I wonder if they make jet packs for mermaids? That would be handy to have aboard my hot air balloon!
I think the pic of Nystia is so mystically radiant and ethereally pretty! I especially like her supple ears, lapis-like wings, the color gradiants and the halation effect against the lush backlit trees!
From the looks of Rebecca’s lovely illustration of Herman, Cecil and Jonny, it would seem that Nystia has the handsome harem, mew la la! Purrhaps I should hire more deputies too, heehee!
The Kitsune’s wide-eyed smile, perked ears and tail seem to indicate her happy mood, and I love the details from her ear tufts and lip gloss to her belly button and the tattered cropped top!
The highlights, shading and shadows add the nice sense of mass to the pic of the Toadstool and fairy, with the splendid curved symmetry throughout  the figure, the wing, the fungus and the-
EASTERN TIGER SWALLOWTAIL, NYA! (the distracted catgirl with camera scampurrs after North Carolina’s state butterfly which has just landed on a nearby Azalea bush)
