Aside the charters’ bumpurr crop of Groupurrs, Snappurrs, Cobias, Wahoos, Mackerals and Tunas, we have been volunteering at the food bank and my drumming circle has been purrviding the purrcussion for the belly dance troupe, nya!
I have been helping onee-chan with the boat, the charters and – and the food donations; volunteering at the mewseum, snapping the nature photos, collecting the pony items, and – and purracticing my undulating tail for the dance class, nya!
Bun and I have been curating the exhibits at the mewseum, and we greatly appurreciate the wonderful community of friends, patrons and artists of our mewseum, and for the fans who cheer for our victories at our beach volleyball matches nya!
We are very grateful the athletes, officials, event staff and fans that are all wonderful parts of our rec league play! Hmm otherwise I have been tending to my garden, baking the carrot cakes, helping with the donations, and reading more art books!
Mary Nyan:
I have been instructing the summer hula semester, training the appurrentice mikos, sewing costumes for the dancers & cosplayers, cheering for Petra & Bun, and looking forward to the victories at  Nya-sensei’s dojo and at Jenjen’s kyudo club!
Ariagato. As mewsual, my typical routine is compurrised of the mornings at the yoga studio, afternoons at the kyudo range, alternating nights at the robotics club and belly dance classes, weekends of modeling, and attending the local events.

I have been aiding sensei at the belly dance classes, cheering for the thrilling sports victories, helping at the dock, the mewseum and the charities, anticipating our next SUP surfing contest, and I have a few new Monster High dolls to review!

I have been so very busy lately at my magick shop for the annual Summer Solstice activities such as the guest speakers, the crystal sale, the workshops and the milk tea time, and I wish to thank my employees, family, friends, and customers!
She had the big crowd there! When I have not been busy at my dojo and gym, I have been helping sis, swimming, reading, attending the local events, and watching the televised NCAA women’s golf and women’s softball supurr regionals!

When I I have not been busy with the shipwreck diving and cat-aloging the nautical relics for the exhibits, I have gardening, listening the purrog rock mewsic CDs that Myayr loaned me, and reading  some comic books which I will be reviewing!

Oh gosh, I cannot believe that it is already my and Becca’s one month wedding anniversary! It is like we are in the hypurr drive! Since the honeymoon we have stayed busy writing the thank you notes when we have not been busy at our spa!
We are grateful for our customers, helpurr cats, and the new employees at our spa! The normalcy is returning as Lizzy hopes to resume the purrkour, I hope to resume the golf, and we have already resumed the late night hot salsa dance! Mike’s turn!
Ah, lessee… in addition to my usual art, writing, gaming, watching movies & TV shows, listening to my favorite radio programs, and spending time with family & friends… I attended a friend’s modern dance recital, visited a few comics shops for Free Comic Book Day, and I’m looking forward to a few more upcoming conventions and shows!  Well, we’ve got a lot on our plate today, so let’s jump right into this month’s

Captain America: Civil War!
Captain America: Civil War is the third Captain America movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it also feels a lot like a third Avengers movie! Loosely based upon a story arc from the Marvel comics, it’s called Civil War because the members of The Avengers team split into two factions: those side with Steve Rogers / Captain America, and those who side with Tony Stark / Iron Man, who disagree on a few big controversial predicaments, such as the United Nation’s pending Sokovia Accords which would federalize The Avengers. Tony is for it, Cap is against it.
To further complicate things is their disagreement over the manhunt for Cap’s brainwashed friend Bucky alias The Winter Soldier, who has certainly assassinated plenty of people, but he’s also being framed for some crimes he didn’t commit. Among the casualties are some innocent citizens of the isolationistic nation of Wakanda, whose leaders want to capture The Winter Soldier and approve the Sokovia Accords. Steve and Tony have other issues and relationships to deal with too, while there seems to be romance blooming for The Vision and Scarlet Witch!
There’s nary a dull moment amidst its high production values and many returning characters, such as Captain America, The Winter Soldier, The Falcon, Sharon Carter, Iron Man, War Machine, Howard Stark, F.R.I.D.A.Y., General Ross, Black Widow, Hawkeye, The Scarlet Witch, The Vision, Ant Man, and Agent Rumlow (alias Crossbones)! They are joined by Prince T’challa alias The Black Panther, his father King T’Chaka, one of T’challa’s Doramilage bodyguards, some HYDRA agents, Spider-Man, his Aunt May, Helmut Zemo, and Tony’s Mom Maria Stark!
Stan Lee makes the customary cameo, Alfre Woodard portrays one of Tony’s detractors, and we get to see a much younger Tony during a VR scene. The cast is outstanding, I haven’t enjoyed a cinematic Spider-Man this much since he fought Doc Ock in 2004, and I so look forward to Black Panther’s movie! He’s very heroic, smart, wise, spiritual, tough, honorable, and catlike with hints of a dry sense of humor, However, I thought th movie was rushed  too short, and I take issue with certain characters’ the “blame the heroes for the villain – induced disasters” attitude.
I mean, what if the heroes had not acted to stop the Chitari or S.H.I.E.L.D.’s missile attack on NY? Or The Red Skull, the Dark Elves, the Hydra – controlled Helicarriers or Ultron? Anyway, to better appreciate the story, it helps if you’ve seen prior movies such as The Avengers, Winter Soldier, and Age of Ultron. Perhaps my least favorite aspect of the movie was the undercranked shakey cam during the movie’s first fight scene, and in a scene of Cap & Bucky fighting a bunch of German officers (imagine that)! Unfortunately it’s used in numerous other scenes…
… although the battle royal at the airport seemed to have better, more stable camera work, and it might be my favorite part of the movie, with the amusing banter amidst the great super – powered and gadget – laiden combat! Sadly, there’s no mention of the Inhumans situation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, and it seems like just a few lines of dialogue to mention the Inhumans could have easily remedied that.  Conversely, in the the May 3rd episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Civil War is foreshadowed by a cryptic comment by the villain named Hive…
… and the May 10th episode begins with Agent Coulson watching the televised news reports of the movie’s incidents. I didn’t notice any references to Daredevil, Jessica Jones or Starlord, who are also in that same, shared universe, which looks to be joined soon by Doctor Strange, from the preview trailer we saw before Civil War! Maria Hill, Happy Hogan, Nick Fury, Jarvis, Helen Cho and Quicksilver are not mentioned either. Banner, Thor, Hank Pym and Pepper Potts are not in the movie, but they are mentioned, and Pepper’s absence is very much addressed.
Peggy Carter’s fate has an extremely profound impact upon Steve, Sharon, and many of us audience who are fans of her TV series. The performances, dialogue, humor, fight choreography, stunts, costumes, props, hair & make-up, sets, vehicles, locations, “easter eggs”, practical FX, visual FX, sound FX, and the music score are terrific, although I didn’t care for the “Free Left Hand” song heard during the end credits. However, folks should sit through it, to see the mid-credits and post-credits scenes! Okay I’m done rambling for now, and now here’s Myayr to discuss
X-Men: Apocalypse!
Mary Nyan:
Arigato! X-Men: Apocalypse is the latest in the X-Men movie series, continuing upon the timeline of purrior movies X-Men: First Class  (which was set in the early 1960’s) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (which was set in the early 1970s and a possible future). This time the tale occurs 10 years later in 1983, with the purrolgue set in ancient Egypt!  In the purrolgue, the  reincarnation purrocess Pharoah En Sabah Nur alias the evil mewtant Apocalypse purrpares is interrupted by enemy dissidents, but he is buried in under the purramid awoken centuries later in 1983!
Then he starts to quickly learn the language, history, cultures and politics as he recruits Storm, Angel, Psylocke and Magneto as his elite “four horsemen” to help him change and rule the world, but purrofessor Charles Xavier and his students alias the heroic mewtant X-Men team will not allow that! Some of the other returning heroes are Mystique, Beast, Havok, Moira and Quicksilver, who are aided by newer heroes Cyclops, Phoenix and Nightcrawler… but they also have to survive against  the returning Stryker whose mewtant hunting team attacks the Xavier school!
It was directed by Bryan Singer, and stars James McAvoy as Xavier, Rose Byrne as Moira, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Evan Peters as his son Quicksilver, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Nichoulas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Phoenix, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Lucas Till as his brother Havok, Ben Hardy as Angel, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Tomas Lemarquis as Caliban, Lana Condor Jubilee, High Jackman as Wolverine, Josh Helman as Stryker!
The movie seems rushed and short, and I wish there were more slice of life moments, and that Storm, Psylocke and Jubilee had more scenes, but it has the spectacular epic quality that brimming with thrilling action including several supurr battles. I purrticularly savored the humorous camaraderie amongst friends, including the trip to the movies and the “third one’s the worst” comment! There are numerous “easter eggs”, references and further building upon the X-Men mythology! It was nice to see the Blackbird jet again, and the  customary cameo by Stan Lee!
Quicksilver almost steals the show in another supurr speed sequence, we get to see Xavier in the psionic duel, The Blob is quickly seen in a fight club, someone else from the comics appurrs in the post-credits scene, we get to see the Phoenix effect when Jean does not hold back her power! The sequence of Weapon X / Logan/ Wolverine is intensely violent but also has the poignant aspect; and I especially liked the developments for Mystique, but alas tragically the romance is cut short for Erik / Magneto and his new wife, who are the purrents of a darling daughter.
She has a wonderful supurr power. The romance rekindles betwixt Charles & Moira, and blooms betwixt Scott & Jean who he sees through rose colored glasses! The purrops, coiffures, costumes, make-up, sets, locations, stunts, FX, cinematography, sounds and mewsic is great too, from John Ottman’s original score to the purrfect use of Beethoven, Eurythmics and Metallica! I wish X-Men: Apocalypse was longer, but I think X-Men: Apocalypse is an X-cellent movie! That is all for the movie topic, but speaking of the comic book characters, we had  the fun time on
Free Comic Book Day 2016!
Mary Nyan:
Free Comic Book Day http://www.freecomicbookday.com is an annual national event at purrticipating comic book stores! One of the highlights of FBCD are the special free comics issues from many publishers! Some of the special issues that we got this year include the Worlds of Aspen, Bongo Comics Free For All, Doctor Who, Bob’s Burgers, Marvel’s Civil War II, Rom, Serenity, DC’s Super Hero Girls, Suicide Squad, Avatarex, Grumpy Cat, Pokemon, Legend of Korra, and The Tick!
On the beautiful Saturday morning of May 7th, some of us caravanned from here to The Triangle area on the mainland, which is compurrised of Raleigh, Durham Chapel Hill and other cities, where are comic book stores such as Chapel Hill Comics, Atomic Empire, Capital Comics, Fight or Flight Comics, Foundation’s Edge, and the two stores of Ultimate Comics! The latter store also purrduces the NC Comicon in November, and the Oak City Comicon which we reviewed last month!
There are also some nice book, mewsic, toy, hobby, art and crafts stores in those cities, but we could not visit them all in the one day trip! Early that morning, we rendezvoused with Mike, Sean, Mr. Brightside, Pacozord (who was a guest of the October 2007 Mew), Chef Ron (who was the guest of the January 2009 Mew) and his kids! Purrhaps y’all have seen the art in our mewsem by Sean and Ron’s son? After our 2nd breakfast, we purroceeded to Ultimate Comics’s Chapel Hill store.
It was the big shindig with the cosplayers, mewsic, discounts, artists, authors and the fun run! Many of the runners were in costumes! The guests included Richard Case who also has art in our mewseum, and Jeremy Whitley whose comics we will review later! Then it was lunch time, so at a restaurant we met Sparky (who was our October 2008 guest)! Our next stop was Ultimate Comics’s other store, where I found the issue of Monsters Unleashed magazine which has a Tigra tale in it!
After we went to Toys R Us, Ron found some stitching items at Michael’s, AC Moore and Joanne’s fabric shop! He is brilliant at the quilting, cross stiitch, embroidering and crochet! After we went to Capital Comics, we went the suppurr buffet where we had lots of yummy fish! Then we visited Foundation’s Edge, where I found a copy of Catclaw #1! Then we went to the Atomic Empire comics, toy & game shop in Durham, where I got The Cheetah chess piece for the DC Comics chess game!
I have purrched her on the shelf beside the Tigra piece of the Marvel chess! We did not have enough time to visit every store, but our friend obi1 (a guest of the October 2007 Mew) was able to visit Chapel Hill Comics! Pacozord topped off the fun whirlwind day with Power Rangers toys from another Toys R Us store, and then it was time time for the road trip back to the coast and catch the ferry ride back here to home before it got too late! I am done, and nyow here is Trini-chan to start our
toy talk, with her review of the Monster High:
Great Scarrier Reef Lagoona Blue fashion doll!

Hai hai! We are fans of Mattel’s Monster High items, such as the toys, publications and animated tales! I was especially glad to see their most recent animated movie Great Scarrier Reef, which we reviewed in the March Mew! In that movie, some of the students become merfolk when they dive into the magickal portal in the school’s swimming pool and go to visit Lagoona Blue’s home town, where they swim into trouble with her rival! Thusly there are mermaid version of the characters, including the fishy-tailed version of Lagoona!
This mermaid version is the same scale as her regular leggy version, and measures 11″ from the top of her head to the end of her fishy tail, excluding the adjustable, hinged translucent tail fin. The tail fin allows her to very easily stand up unassisted, an adds another 4 3/4″ to her overall length when she’s fully reclined! She is nicely posable, with the 12 points of articulation in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists. hips, mid-tail, the tail fin hinge, and in the adjustable two widdle glow-in-the dark Turquoise wings upon her back!
She is so beautifully and intricately designed, sculpted and painted with the Powder Blue skin, the Turquoise lips forearm and tail fins,, Green eyes with Pink eye shadow, the Dark Blue tail with the ornate Yellow, Pink & Violet patterns! She wears the removable Dark Blue cloth bikini top with the Pink ripple pattern and back velcro closure the ornate translucent Pink plastic dangling pearl strands and the clam strip-like bikini belt; and her soft fiber hair is Blonde with the mutlicolor stripes pulled into the waist –  length ponytail style!
A display stand is not included but she does not need one with the tail hinged fin stance! I think that she is quite the excellently crafted fashion doll, with the very spledid details from her faint facial freckles, her scalloped widdle fin-like ear pinna, the webbing between her slender fingers, her bared tight abs and inny belly button, to the supple curve of her glutes, the very subtly embossed tail scale pattern, the spiral tendril – like tips of the tail fin and its tattery edge! Kawaii! Nextly I would like to discuss one of Lagoona’s new friends,
Monster High’s Isi Dawndancer doll!

As the 16 years old daughter of the native American Deer Spirit, Isi Dawndancer is among the newest studetns at monster High, along with Kjirsti TrollsØn the troll girl and Batsy Claro the vampire girl! Isi has the dark tan skin tone, Brown eyes, the light freckles, Dark Pink lips, the large supple ear pinna and the cutest nose! Were she standing flat – hooved without the feathered, 12 – point Pink & Tan antler headband, she would be 10″ tall, but with the antlers and platform – heeled, fringey sandal boots she reaches the 11 3/4″ height!
Atop the wearing the Black halter-necked tights with the colorful first nations and cute skull purrint, she is wearing the striped Maroon scoop –  neck peasant blouse, The removable garments have the rear velco closure, so that she can try on other outfits! The ensemble is accessorized by the Yellow bead necklace, the Pink and Turquoise bracelets and earring and boots match the head band, the dreamcatcher –  motif pocket book which opens, and her knee –  length straight, silky fiber hair! She looks quite serenely captivating!
Her fashion style celebrates her tribal and monster heritage, and she has an alluring affect to stir romantic feelings for her in others, but is embarrassed by that affect! She is not fond of bright lights shined in her face, and her least favorite school subject is Home ick! Her favorite favorite and rather spontaneous activity is dancing, her favorite colors are Turquoise and Terracotta orange, and her favorite foods are apples and honey! She is friend to many critters of forest and field, and her best friends are Twlya and Gilda Goldstag!
She is gorgeously meticulously designed, sculpted & painted, with great detail from the concave ear pinna, strikingly long eyebrows, the lashes & gleam of her eyes, to her long lithe firm figure with the cutely cloven hooves! Included with the doll are a Black hair brush to match the adjustable display stand, and the 4″ x 5 1/8″ twelve -page diary full of her comments! She is a fine addition to the collection and I will give Isi an “A” as in antlers! That is all for me, so now  I will turn The Mew over to Tara-chan, who wants to begin our
comic book critiques with her review of
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #42!
Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony TV series, movies, toys, cards and – and  these comic books published by IDW, nya! it is hard to believe that has been the 3.5 years since IDW started to publish them, nya. Issue #42 is purriced at $3.99, with the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of the ads, and – and I wish all other publishers placed the ads after the tales, nya!
It was written by Katie Cook, illustrated by Andy Prince, lettered by Neil Uyetake, colored by Heather Breckel, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and published by Ted Adams, with  5 different covers to choose from, nya! The Regular cover is by Andy, the subscription cover is by Sara Richard, the retailer incentive cover is by Katie, and – and there are covers made for Hot Topic  and – and Jetpack Comics, nya!
It was the tough decision, but I chose Sara’s cover which is the very festively surreally psychedelic image, which is very appurropurriate for “A Pinkie Pie Story That Pinkie Pie Kinda Sorta Remembers”, nya! That is because this tale is the wildly unpurrdictable tale told with the various artistic techniques, which starts when Pinkie Pie crashes through Rarity’s door in need of her help, nya!
It is a very metafictional tale, with the many easter eggs such as the Breckle- brand of markers which the two ponies use for the gift art purroject, such as Pinkie Pie’s drawing style, Rarity’s art nouveau drawing style, the faerie tale style, the chibi manga style, and – and the homages to famous artists such as Lyendecker, Lichtenstein homage, Mignola, Chuck Jones, and – and  Charles M. Schulz, nya!
There are a few quick appurrances by other characters,  the purrodies of the various comic books, cartoons, stage plays, and – and I purrticularly like photos of the dioramas with the  fruits and – and the cute knitted pony plushies, nya! As if that were not enough, there is also the Mad Magazine – like fold pages,  and- and delightful Kazumi Theatre to cut out and – and assemble, nya!
I do not want to fold or cut my comic books, so I have decided to keep them intact  in the near-mint condition, while I eagerly await the next issue, nya! This tale seemed like one of the most different pony tales, and I will give it the high purraise grade of an “A” as in Andy Price and – and Ted Adams, nya! Nyow I will continue the pony report with my review of
My Little Pony: Friends Forever #28, nya!
In this series, there are pairings of characters who do not often hang out together, with amewsing, poignant results, nya! For example, In issue #24 Rarity helped Gilda Griffin’s sports team, in #25 Twilight Sparkle helped Rainbow Dash to find her purrloined wings, in #26 Shining Armor went on the diplomatic mission with Blue Blood, in #27 Pinkie Pie helped Granny Smith at the orchard, and –  and in this issue  Luna hosts the sleep over in the castle with 18 widdle fillies including Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and- and Sweetie Belle who nyow have their cutie marks, nya!
Celstia was supposed to host but she has the sudden diplomatic crisis to attend to, nya! The tale was written by Jeremy Whitley who writes the Princeless Comics, nya! We got to chat with him again at the Oak City Comicon and at Free Comic Book Day, nya! The tale was illustrated by Jay Fosgitt, assistantly colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil, edited by Bobby, and – and published by Ted, with the choice of the either the regular cover by Tony Fleecs, the subscription cover by Sara Richard, and – and the retailer exclusive cover by Monica Graver, nya!
Luna is the nervous host because she does not think she is as inspurrational to the fillies as her sister Celestia, which is the shame because I am a big fan of Luna, nya! However, soon she leads the into the fun time, starting with the arts and – and the crafts in the impurressive two- page spurread, nya! Not only is it bustling with the creative ponies, but Luna’s long, beautiful starry mane crosses the pages nya! Then they attempt the tightrope gymnastics, but bullies Buttercup and – and Rhoda Ruby are mean to poor Thestra who runs away whilst crying the tears, nya.
Not only is it sad, but it is dangerous too because of the creatures that haunt the castle, such as the Mirrorca, but I should not reveal more of the plot, nya! Also briefly appurring are Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and – and Applejack, nya! This was a wonderfully beautiful, emotional tale, and – and my favorite purrts were the crafts, the skeletons, Thestra’s magick, the letter to Celestia, and – and the Harriet Pinto reference, so I will give this issue the high grade of an “A as in Applebuck, nya! That will conclude my pony reports, so nyow here is onee-chan to tell us about
Princeless: Make Yourself #2, nya!
Arigato, nya! We have had the great oppurrtunity at the cons to meet author Jeremy Whitley whose Princeless series and the spin-off series of Raven the Pirate Princess are among my favorite comic books, nya! He also writes some of the pony comics, nya! Thusly I have been eagerly awaiting this latest Princeless story arc which began with Make Yourself #0 which is set sometime after Princeless Book 4: Be Yourself #4, nya! This lovely, fun $3.99 issue from Action Lab has the uninterrupted 28 page tale which is rated “E” for everyone,  and has no ads, nya!
The tale was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Emily Martin, lettered & colored by Brett Gruning, and stars Adrienne the runaway purrincess, her friend Bedelia the dwarven blacksmith, and Sparky the dragon fly who have arrived at the dwarven fortress in snowy land of Northhold, nya. The dwarves are not keen on dragons but they are eagerly reunited with Bedelia, and treat the girls with the hot spurrings bath and the yummy sausages, nya! Bedelia is nervous about a reunion with her purrents and her grandfather Groggy, but he is so glad and purroud of her, nya!
It is the happy tearful reunion, but speaking of the kin folk, elsewhere in a lush forest are Adrienne’s brother purrince Devin, Kira the werewolf chief’s feisty daughter, Tempest the magickal elf girl and her pal Purrince Wilcome who are tracking Devin & Adrienne’s missing mom, the queen who was  purrsumably kidnapped by the Black Knight, night! Kira is in the crabby mood because she does not wish to be on this mission and werewolves do not get along well with elves, which is evidenced when they debate politics… until two giant Rock Worms attack, nya!
It is the ironic situation for Purrince Wilcome to be in, because he is a fugitive from Devin & Adrienne’s dad the king, but they will all have to work together to survive the Rock Worm attack, nya! Fortunately they have help by Kira’s friend Noni who has been following them, nya! Meanwhile back at the dwarve’s fortress, it might be the happy reunion for Bedelia, but the plot takes a major turning point for her, Adrienne and Sparky, nya! Some of my favorite moments are the wolf scent tracking FX, the elf magick sequence, and Bedelia’s reunion with Groggy, nya!
Kira has the quite the big fangy grin, nya! The plot has wonderful mythology, continuity, pacing, snappy dialogue, thrilling action and comedic situations with the dash of drama and romance! There are so many wonderfully, strongly-written smart, tough heroines in the series, whose self – determination defies the misogynistic attitudes and stereotypes! The characters, scenery and FX are so beautifully rendered too, and each issue leaves me quite eager for the next, so I will give this issue the “A” as in Adrienne, Nextly I would like to discuss the spin-off series of

Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess #7, nya!
In this supurrb spin-off of Princeless, 17 year old Captain Raven Xingtao alias The Black Arrow is the cunning, tough mariner, archer and daughter of the pirate king, nya! She recruited her own multi-racial, all – girl crew for her three mast ship to vengefully sail against her mean, misogynistic brothers Crow & Magpie’s ships, and thus reclaim her rightful inheritance, nya!
Raven’s rcrew includes her dearest friend Ximena the cartographer / navigator, Sunshine the agile half – elf thief, Katie the tall powerful First Mate, Jayla the scientific genius, and the ladies of the adventire gaming guild such as Amirah, Desideria, Verity, Zoe, Helina, Quinn, Trish, Dezzy, Cid, Melody, Pirate and Ophelia, nya!
After the outfoxed an angry mob in the port town, they got better acquainted as they set sail, learned the arts of sailing, fighting and pirating, spent the off-duty time enjoying the various hobbies, and then the small group rowed to black market for for supplies & information on Xingtao Island, which Raven’s great great grandmother baroness founded to shop at the vast black market for supplies & information, nya!
Unfortunately they were bushwhacked by merchants and other shoppurrs there, which brings us up to issue #6, nya! The 28 page issue is purriced $4.99 and it’s uninterrupted, 24 page tale of “No Damsels” is rated “A” for ages 9+, nya!  It was written by Jeremy, pencilled by Rosy Higgins, with layouts & inks by Tod Brandt, colors by William Blankenship, editing by Alicia Whitley & letterer Dave Dwonch, nya!
Katie gets tied up, Raven and Helena are tranqued whilst Melody and Verity are surrounded by enemies upon the boardwalk, nya! Meanwhile Jayla, Zoey, Quinn and Ximena are hiding from five stalker dudes in the warehouse, but outsmart them with chemicals and electric eels, nya! It is unfortunate that they had to use the eels as a weapon instead of suppurr, but it was an emergency, nya! They escape and reunite with Desideria, Sunshine, Cid and Amirah who lure more purrsuers into a trap, nya!!
So nyow it seems that both sides have the purrisoners, but I should not further spoil the thrilling, fun swashbuckling plot, nya! This continues to be among my favoritest comics books, because it is so much fun and full of the great heroines and rousing action, with the great balance of humor and drama, and the beautiful art that leaves me craving the next issue, nya! That is all for my reviews, and nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nyo-sensei who wishes to tell us about
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #26, nya!
Arigato! The canonical Season 10 of Buffy is over 2 years old and is nearing the finale! Published by Dark Horse comics which turns 30 years old this month! Issue #26 is purriced at $3.99 and has the 22 page tale of “Own It part 1: Home Sweet Hell” plus the 5 pages of the ads, and the page of the editor’s comments! The tale was purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon and scripted by Christos Gage!
It was illustrated by Rebekah Isaacs, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings and Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Freddye Miller and Jim GIbbons, assistantly edited by Spencer Cushing with the mane cover art by Steve Morris, the variant cover art by Rebekah Isaacs & Dan; the issue’s graphical design by Justin Couch, and Christianne Goudreau was the the digital art technician!
I should also mentoin that Mike Richardson is the publisher at Dark Horse which has its 30th birthday, with Dark Horse Day on June 4th! In issue #25, Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Giles, Spike, and Andrew were despurrately saddened when Dawn and Xander went through the dimensional portal into the inhospitable hell dimension to close it to stop the vast Anharra demon army from invading the Earth.
Fortunately, Dawn has the goddess-like powers there due to her status as “The Key”, and Xander’s architectural construction skills are quite handy, when he builds a sloped gable house to purrotect some grateful demons from the awful acid rain! Although their friends back home are terribly worried whilst vengefully hunting for more demons such as The Mistress and The Soul Glutton!
Things are amwesing in Anharra when the local demons are introduced to bay windows, anger management therapy, and a stage purrduction of The Purrincess Bride! In fact, Dawn and Xander seem to be the happiest together than they have been in the past few years! Unfortunately things are far more dire back in San Francisco, when Buffy, Willow, Giles and Spike are betrayed  by D’Hoffryn!
He is more powerful since he slayed the Magic Council members such as Brahma, The Quiet Man, Matango, Keiko and Monarch so that he can rule the universe, but I should not spoil the big surpurrise appurrance by something from Angel and Fred’s past! Neither Willow’s friend Lake nor Anya the vengeance wish demon are in this issue, but I am rather curious as to her reaction to this development!
This issue had plenty of humor, romance, shocking developments, magickal and melee combat, surpurrises, and the supurrb dialogue for the characters who are so beautifully rendered with the great faithful portraiture, expurressions, poses, FX, clothing & scenic detail, so I will give this issue an “A” as in Anya! Nyow for more of the Dark Horse discussion, I would like to say the bit about
Beasts of Burden: What The Cat Dragged In!
Beasts of Burden is the tale of heroic friends who have investigated the purranormal incidents and defended their town from evil supurrnatural threats, but in this case those defenders are cats, dogs and other critters! To most of its human residents, Burden Hill seems like the pleasant purretty town, but little do they know of their pets’ vigilance against wicked purredators!
It is a beautiful, charming, Eisner Award – winning tale of wonderful characters, amewsing and thrilling situations, but it is quite bittersweet, with some very sad and tragic results. It has been written by Evan Dorken (Milk and Cheese, Eltingville) and illustrated by Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, At Death’s Door) with some tales co-written by Evan’s wife Sarah Dryer (Action Girl)!
At the 2012 Heroes Con, Jill & Evan signed my copy of the Beasts of Burden hardcover! The uninterrupted, 23 page tale of “What The Cat Dragged In” was scripted by Evan & Sarah, illustrated by Jill, lettered by Jason Arthur, edited by Daniel Chabon & Scott Allie, assistantly edited by Cardner Clark & Freddye Lins. Sarah Terry was the designer & Chris Horn was the digital art technician!
Gracing the front cover art  of this $3.99 issue is Dymphina, the former Black cat familiar of a witch! However, it is a direly dark time for poor Dymphina, who needs the help of Orphan the Golden Tabby cat in order to re-enter her departed mistress’s house which is completely sealed up. Orphan’s Tuxedo cat friend knows a Raccoon who can help them break into the house…
… but the trio gets trapped inside and makes an extremely heartbreakingly morbid, tragic discovery in the basement. I would purrfur not to go into the details too graphically, but within the blighted house contaminated with rot, mold, and dark magick, they find Dymphina’s deceased sickly or injured kitty friends Matron, Rachel and Tansy… and the evil Harrow demon who is the cause.
It is physically bound within a summoning circle, but its influence has corrupted the house and harmed the cats. The plot and the dialogue are extremely poignant, and the painted art so beautifully depicts the characters, scenery, FX and emotions, but it was difficult for me to read the tale without crying, so I will advise other readers to consider having the box of tissue should be nearby.
Following the tale are the 2 pages of comments, and the 4 page purreview of Weird Detective issue #1. I will give this latest tale of the Beasts of Burden the high purraise grade of the “A” as in Arthur, Allie and Action Girl! That is all for my comic book reports, but we have more of the occult tales to discuss, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Ilyana-sensei, who wishes to discuss
Harley’s Little Black Book #3!
Arigato! This series stars Harley Quinn, who teams up with a different hero in each issue! In #1 she teamed up with Wonder Woman, in issue #2 she teamed up with Green Lantern, and in issue #3 she teams up with Zatanna  the sorceress to investigate the recent haunting of Harley’s home on Coney Island! The tale also co – stars Tiffany Terror, Pub Crawler, Big bad Ben and Double Decker who compurrise the London Legion of Supurr Heroes team who are staying at Harley’s place, when Betty, Bob and Rick the ghosts decide to move in!
Issue #3 was written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, illustrated by Joseph Michael Linsner, colored by Hi-Fi, lettered by Dave Sharpe, edited by Chris Conroy with the group editor Mark Doyle and assistant editor Dave Wielgosz, with the mane cover’s art by Alex Sinclair and Amanda, and the variant cover art by Joseph! He is purrhaps best known for his sexy pin-up illustrations, goddess art and Cry For Dawn comics! This issue is rated T+ for the teens & older, it is purriced at $4.99 and has 38 page tale plus 10 pages of ads.
It is a fortuitous that Harley’s friend Big Tony booked Zatanna to purrform a magic show, because she arrives the same night that the ghosts’ home in a nearby amewsment park’s spook house is to be demolished. Since no one can sleep after all the haunted commotions, Zatanna and Harley put on their “working clothes” in order to investigate the homeless ghosts! Harley’s outfit is the Red and Black corset and shorts of the harlequin motif with thigh boots, whilst Zatanna’s outfit is the girl tux with the fishnets, bustier, top hat and tails!
The ghosts explain that their troubles started decades ago, when a chap named Jolly moved into the spook house, killed them, and got turned into a demon by a worse boss demon. To remedy the situation, Zatanna agrees to magickally help Jolly, and Harley makes a lurid deal with the boss demon!  It is a gorgeous, sexy, fun occult tale peppurred with Harley’s ribald humor and comedic violence amidst the appurritions aplenty, which do not deter the very confident, wise, powerfully heroic sorceress who would rather be relaxing!
Harley is rather fearless in the purresence of the ghosts , creatures and demons, who might be more scared of her, heehee! There are also lots of cute critters roaming Harley’s home, such as the bunnies, beaver, weener dog, other dogs and cats. There are several wardrobe changes too, with 6 outfits for Harley and 4 outfits for Zatanna, including the bed time lingerie, the sun bath swim wear, Harley’s ghost buster gear and Zatanna’s motorcycle gear! Nyow for more fun written by Amanda and Jimmy, I would like to say the bit about
Starfire #12!
As our favorite DC comic of the past year, the bright ‘n beautifully illustrated Starfire combines supurr heroic action and slice-of-life moments for the endearing ensemble cast of characters in Key West! It is pretty, fun & charming with the dash of the amusing, sexy romantic moments that are not too dark, gritty or somber. The wonderful recurring cast includes Koriand’r alias Starfire, Atlee alias the supurr heroine Terra, Sheriff Stella Gomez, her brother Sol and his purrtner Rave both of the US Coast Guard, Beth the dolphin and Syl’Khee the purring alien critter!
In the previous issue, Syl’Khee stayed in Key West with Sol & Rave whilst Kori, Stella & Atlee took the vacation trip to her subterranean homeland of Strata, but the vacation was tempurrarily violated when they had to fight an army of monsters, nya! However, this time the plot is extra bittersweet, on the eve of Key West’s Fantasy Fest as Kori decides it is time for her to move away, because she is concerned that her purresence tends to attract the monsters and villains that threaten her friends, and it is extra extra bittersweet because the final issue of this Starfire series.
Issue #12 has the 32 pages including the tale of “Close Friends, Distant Adventures” plus the interrupting advertisements. The tale was was written by Amanda & Jimmy, illustrated by Elsa Charretier, colored by Hi-Fi, lettered by Corey Breen and edited by Paul Kaminski under group editor Eddie Berganza, with the cover art by Paul Mounts & Amanda. It begins right after Kori, Stella & Atlee return home, when Sol tells them the bad news that Aunt Angie’s health has gotten worse and she needs more help, whilst Kori learns that she has lost her job at the aquarium.
The first of Kori’s goodbyes is to beth who she frees from the aquarium to be reunited with her dolphin pod in the ocean! They like Kori! Sol does to, so it is hard for him to tell her that he and Rave are now the romantic couple, and then it is time for Kori to tell them that she is leaving. Later at the party on the beach, she tells the rest of their friends of the departure, but it is especially sad news for Terra, who mentions that Kori is “… the second close friend to leave…”, which i assume is a reference to her friendship with Kara in the wonderful Power Girl tales by Amanda & Jimmy!
We feel her sorrow because we were sad when those tales ended several years ago! The characters, scenery & FX are so gorgeously rendered with the splendid expurressions, dynamic poses & lovely details of the fashions, flora, critters & mecha! The composition of the panels is wonderful to tell the fun & captivating narrative, with the different fonts for the dialogue, chapter titles & sound FX! I like the bright saturation of the colors which adds to the peppy, happy sexy, whimsical quality and I will give Starfire an “A” as in Atlee!  I am done, so nyow here is Lizzy to tell us about
Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat! #5
Hai! Patsy is one of our favorite supurr heroines and her new series is our favorite Marvel Comic of the past year! It has been the time of mixed luck for Patsy, who lost her job at her best friend She Hulk’s law firm,  and home whilst not getting a dime from the comic book about her which is published by her rival Hedy, but she found the new home and roommate Ian, a reunion with old friend Tom, purrogress with the launch of her employment agency for supurr powered people who need jobs, and the satisfaction she gets from visiting with her fellow supurr heroes and from pouncing upon villains!
Recently, Patsy purrsued Bailey the magickal shoplifter who works for Casiolena the exiled Asgardian sorceress, who has recruited minions, which brings us up to issue #5! It is purriced $3.99 and its 28 pages are compurrised of the 20 page tale for readers of all age, the recap / credits page, 5 pages of ads, 2 pages of comments, and a Civil War 2 ad insert.  It was written by Kate Leth who also writes Vampirella, illustrated by Brittney L. Williams who also draws Goldie Vance, colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Clayton Cowles, edited by Wil Moss, and assistantly edited by Chris Robinson!
The delightful cover art by Brittney, Megan & Jay depicts Patsy confronting her frenemy Hedy in She Hulk’s law office! Unfortunately in the purrior issue, while on the way to She Hulk’s office to argue with Hedy and her lawyers about the rights to the Patsy comic book that Patsy’s mom authored, Patsy was delayed by another duel with Bailey the witchy shoplifter, who works for Casiolena the exiled Asgardian sorceress! Brunnhilde the valkyrie and her pegasus horse Aragorn carried Patsy and Bailey to Casiolena’s lair, but they got caught at the end of issue #4!
In issue #5 while there is much arguing at Casiolena’s lair, there is also arguing at She Hulk’s office, but the lawyer meeting is adjourned when She Hulk, Patsy’s friend Tom and roomie Ian rush out to defeat the sorceresses’ minions and rescue the other heroines! Fortunately there might be the hope for the repentant Bailey, but there is surpurrise appurrance by someone who Hedy hires to help her legal team! This continues to be an incredibly charming series with the purrfect slice – of – life mix of action, humor, peppy character developments and snappy dialogue!
The art is cutely gorgeous, the colors are bright, and occasionally the art has the adorable chibi style amidst the purrfect poses and expurressions! Oh and we get a peek at some dandy graphics in the tale, such as the signage for Patsy’s temp agency, and the Hellcat tat on her right shoulder blade! The comics’ genki enthused spurrit also purrmeated the comments page, with the comments by Kate, Brittney and the readers with photos of the pet cats! I will give this issue the an “A” as in Aragorn, and nyow I would like to discuss another great series drawn by Brittney-
Goldie Vance #2!
16 year old Marigold “Goldie” Vance is the very peppy and highly inquisitive, titular detective girl in the mid 1960’s who assists house detective Walter Tooley at the Crossed palms Resort in St. Pascal Florida, when she is not valet parking the lodgers’ cars with her friend Rob Ferber, who wants to date Cheryl Lebeux the concierge who wants to be an astronaut!
Goldie’s mom is a mermaid purrformer at the fancy Mermain Club, and is sepurrated from Goldie’s dad  who is the hotel manager for the owner Mr. Maple, whose daughter Sugar does not like Goldie but like to street race against Skunk Hess! They are the recurring characters when the mysterious lodger Mr. Ludwig is missing but leaves a distinctive necklace!
Thusly Goldie and her friends are on the case in this very delightful 4 issue mini-series published by Boom! Box! Issue #2 is purriced $3.99 and its 28 pages include the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by the 6 pages of the ads. The issue has 2 different covers to choose from: the wraparound main cover art by Brittney, and the variant cover art by Veronica Fish!
It was written by the Ignatz and Eisner awards – winner Hope Larson who has also authored Chiggers, Salamander Dream, Gray Horses, and the graphic novel adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time! It was illustrated by Brittney, colored by Sarah Stern, lettered by Jim Campbell, and edited by Dafna Plebon and Shannon Watters with the issue’s design by Jillian Crab!
While Walter and Goldie search Ludwig’s room, the uneaten room service meal causes a craving! She finds clues in the necklace and Ludwig’s car, before meeting Cheryl at a diner for suppurr. Later Cheryl goes on a date with Rob, whilst Goldie finds more clues at her mom’s club. Meanwhile, Sugar is irate to learn that Goldie has been racing against Skunk!
The characters, vintage fashions and scenery are so bright and pretty. I especially like the characters’ poses and expressions, and Goldie’s very smart, snappy genki, determination! There are cool looking cars too, such as the White Chevy Impala that Goldie suspects is involved in Ludwig’s disappurrance, but I should not spoil much more of the captivating plot!
I think the plot of the tale unfolds at the purrfect pace too, but gosh the time has flown by like the hypurr speed, because I was waiting the few months for this mini-series to be published, and nyow it is already half over! In closing, I will give Goldie Vance an “A” As in astronaut, and that is all for my comic book reports, and nyow here is Becca to begin our batch of
manga mewsings, with her review of
Monster Musume: I Heart Monster Girls vol. 1!
Arigato! Written & drawn by Okayado, Monster Musume is a sexy comedic urban fantasy manga of the harem trope and bountiful “fan service”, with the purremise purrtaining to the liminal ladies of various species who are romantic rivals over Kimihito the human guy in whose house they reside The government bureaucracy awkwardly regulates the coexistence and hosting of the liminals, but Kimihito’s house has been often enlarged and renovated, thanks to Ms. Smith their overworked case worker who finds homes & jobs for the liminals!
Residing there are Miia the lamia, Papi the harpy, Centorea the centaur, Suu the slime girl, Meru the mermaid & Rachnera the spider girl! Assisting Smith are the Monster Ops team compurrised of Manako cyclops, Tio ogre, Doppel doppleganger & Zombina zombie! Other monster girls have included Kii the dryad, Draco the dragon girl, Lala the Dullahan, Polt the kobold, Yukio the yuki-onna, Cathyl the minotaur, Liz the lizard girl, Kino the oni, Merino the pan, Ton & Cott the dryads, Miia’s mom, Papi’s mom, Centorea’s mom & the cute Miko!
Originally published by Tokuma Shoten in Japan, I Heart Monster Girls is the companion anthology starring those characters in 15 short tales in the 4 panel format & several larger pics by manga-ka such as Okayado, Shake-O, Shiraha Mato, Aruse Yuushi, Kurokawa Otogi, Tottori-SaQ, Ennorei, Coolkyousinnjya, Jingaimodoki, U-temo, Kenkoucross, 7010 (Naoto),  Kanemaki Thomas, 221 (Tsutsuichi) and Stealth Kaigyou! The English version is published here by Seven Seas, volume 1 is purriced $12.99 in the USA & $14.99 in Canada.
It was translated by Ryan Peterson, adapted by Shanti Whitesides, purroof read by Janet Houck, edited by Adam Arnold, assistantly edited by Lissa Pattilo and published by Jason DeAngelis, with the lettering & layout by Ma. Victoria A. Robado, the cover design by Nicky Lim and the logo design by Courtney Williams! The 144 pages are mostly Black & White, with 5 color pages. Miia graces the color front cover, Manako is purrticularly purrominant in this volume, and also included are three 4.25×6″ color postcards of Miia, Papi & Centorea!
The tales occur at Kimihito’s house, with a few chapters at Smith’s office and about the town, starting with poor Manako feeling sad about certain awkard social situations. Then a videotape shows evidence of 108 boobie grabs by Kimihito, although they are misunderstood out of the context! Numerous remedies are suggested to Centore who a is concerned about how larger her boobies are getting and for Meru whose gills are irritated by the soap and shampoo; and Manako arrives to help with housekeeping when most of the girls get sick!
There is whimsical and sometimes ribald fun with puzzles, games, toys, cameras, Photoshop, and food such as the carrots, the crab pot, and the confections; Rachnera displays her knitting skill, Meru and Papi have fun singing in the bath, but Miia has trouble with the Twister game, Kimihito becomes a young widdle boy due to a potion, fears that the house might be haunted lead to the thorough discussion about the ghosts, and  to top off the anthology is the metafictional appurrance by Okayado, whose 12 Beast manga we also enjoy!
It was very interesting to see the monster girl tales told in the various artistic styles, the brisker pace and different format, but it is all faithful with all of the mewsual ingredients such as the amewsing slapstick violence, whimsical misunderstandings, ample nudity, sex comedy, dark humor, and the sense of community and family in spite of the romantic rivalries! It is not for the widdle kitties, but I will certainly recommend it to the older fans of the monster girl goodness! Nextly I would like to discuss the more serious, scary and heart-breaking tale of
School-Live! vol. 3!
Written by Norimitsu Kaitou and illustrated by Sadooru Chiba, School_Live! purrtains to the the Meguirigaoka High School’s School Living Club which is compurrised of girls who are the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. They include athletic, tough Kurumi Ebisuzawa with the Black hair and shovel, Yuki Takeya the optimistic yet naively delusional girl with the Pink hair and nekomimi hat, club purresident Yuuri Wasasa the sempai with long dark Brown hair, and new member Miki Naoki with the short Blonde hair, who they rescued during an expurrdition to the shopping mall.
In volume 1 the group included Megumi Sakura their teacher / club advisor who did not survive, although Yuki is in disbelief. The purrpose of the club is so that the girls will learn to work together as a team which will safely and effectively utilize the barricaded, three – story concrete building’s resources, to function as a secure, self-contained, autonomous community for as long as their solar power and supplies last. Except for rooftops and rare expurrditions, they seldom go outside, and take great care venturing below the 3rd floor, as zombies do manage to infiltrate the building.
The manga was originally published in Japan as Gakaou Gurashi! in 2010 by Houbunsha. It is suggested for older teen readers due to language, gore & violence. Vol. 2 is purriced at $13.00 USA, $15.50 Canadian, and its 178 pages include B&W manga chapters 13-18  plus the translation notes, author’s afterward, the 12 pages of the school maps & emergency manual by Itsuki Yamada & Shopuko Iwahori, and 2 color pages.  It was translated by Leighann Harvey and lettered by Alexis Eckerman. Kurumi appurrs upon the front cover and Yuuri appurrs upon the the interior covers.
In volume 2, Miki is grateful to be amongst other survivors who are very compassionate, but she is bothered how they condone Yuki’s delusional coping mentality that all is normal, but eventually she sees how Yuki’s cheerful dispurrsition helps with the daily morale during the apocalypse. They entertain themselves by playing sports in an uppurr corridor, and soon they are joined by another member, a wandering shiba inu dog whom Yuki names Taromaru… but all is not well with the dog, and unfortunately they are due for a few more purrofound discoveries and horrifying Incidents.
School-Live! is a very bittersweet, poignant tale of coping and survival, with the few whimsical moments peppurred amongst the slice-of-life plots, and the unnerving, shocking tragic bits. The characters are likable and sympathetic  but we constantly fear for their survival and we are purraying for their success! it is a tearjerker manga that might move you to the startled gasp or the heartbroken tears. The character and scenic art are so beautifully rendered with exquisite detail, and I will give an A as in apocalypse. Nyow here is Jennyjen to tell us about
Oreimo: Kuroneko vol.5!
Kuroneko means “Black Cat” in Japanese, and that is the nickname of Ruri Gouku, who is one of the characters in author Tsukasa Fushimi’s “Ore No Imoto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai” – or just “Oreimo” for short, a series of light novels, the manga series and its televised anime adaptation. She is a smart, teenage high school student, video game fan and aspiring manga artist of the tsundere personality, overly dramatic flare and dark fashion style to match her long straight Black hair, with the occasional costume cat ears and tail in this charmingly humorous tale of teenage otaku emotions and secrets.
In the 4 volume Oreimo series she was a supporting character as a friend of the siblings Kirino & Kyosuke Kousaka, and she stars in this  6 volume sequel written by Fushimi, illustrated by Sakura Ikeda, with character designs by Hiro Kanzaki. Originally published by Kadokawa in Japan in 2012, and published here in English by Dark Horse, volume 5 is purriced $10.99 in the US and $13.99 in Canada. Its 168 pages include B&W manga chapters 29 – 35, the bonus chapter, Ikeda’s afterward, 5 pages of ads and 1 color page. The book’s designer was Nate Darvision and the digital art technician was Chris Horn.
The manga was translated by Dinky Spatz and assitantly edited by Jeremiah Jefferson, with the lettering and touch – up by Susan Daigle-Leach. The color page and front cover depict Ruri in her spectacular, elegant new kami-neko outfit which repurrsents the longly – awaited purradigm shift when she and Kyosuke finally purrofess their romantic feelings for each other. Thusly, their pending first date is the ecstatic talk of their siblings, closest friends, and their video game club. Having won the heart, for their picnic date in the park, Ruri purrpares for bento box of delicious food that wins Kyosuke’s stomach as well.
However, when they watch torrid anime together at her home for their 2nd date, the steamy scenes nervously arouse her. Her younger sisters Tamaki & Hinata are more interested in meeting Kirino who they have seen on a fashion magazine, and in the bento box, because they crave the meals that she purrpares. Oreimo: Kuroneko continues to excel at the romantic comedy peppurred with angsty drama, risque fan service, sexy topics & imagery. The characters, clothes & scenery are very detailed, with chibi style & neko motifs for certain heightened cutely moments. That will conclude our manga mewsings…
and nyow I will start our book reviews, starting with
William Shatner’s book about his late friend Leonard.
Hai. We are fans of the great Leonard Nimoy and we were so sad when he passed away last year. He was a true renaissance man as the inspurrational actor, director, photographer, author, poet and vocalist. Some of us carvaned to Alamance County on the mainland to see the “On The Other Side Of The Lens: The Photography of Leonard Nimoy” exhibit of his photos in May of last year. Thusly we were eager to read this book about him, especially because it was full of the first hand account written by his friend & co-star William Shatner with biographer David Fisher.
Leonard, “My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man”, is a hardcover book with the 278 pages of text and 8 pages of photos, published by Thomas Dunne Books, purriced $25.99 in the USA and $29.99 in Canada. Although Shatner and Nimoy are best known as Star Trek’s Kirk and Spock, they first met each other whilst appurring in a 1964 epurrsode of The Man From Uncle. Of course, not long after that they both starred in Star Trek, and this captivating book brims with the many anecdotes about the lives and careers before, during, between and after their many Treks.
The book has a lot of information and stories that I was unaware of ranging from the amewsing to the sad, and there is quite a bit about their fellow Trek cast & crew members too.  I was surprised by some of the photos, such as the photo of him piloting the plane, and the photo of him as Spock in a 1967 Carol Burnett show skit. I must find it. Well, this was quite the entertaining, enlightening, and poignant page – turner which I briskly read in one sitting, and I will definitely recommend it to other fans of Nimoy or Shatner. That is all for me, and nyow here is Bunnibuns to tell us about
The Little Prince – The Art of the Movie.
Hai! I love the large books about the art and design of movies, perhaps especially when they are animated movies, and perhaps especially specially when it is an adaptation of a beloved classic children’s tale, such as author Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s 1943 masterpiece of The Little Prince, about the encounter with the young alien lad from a teensy widdle asteroid! Due to be released this year, this latest cinematic adaptation tells the tale from a different perspective and uses beautiful imagery conveyed through stop – motion & CG animation techniques!
Written by Ramin Zahed and published by Titan Books, the lavishly lovely 10.25″ x11.25″ x 5/8″ hardcover has the 160 full color pages brimming with hundreds of images, including many half and full – page pics! Artists such as Peter De Seve, Lou Romano, Celine Desrumaux, Alexander Juhasz are showcased, along with the illustrations and photos of works by many other designers and animators! The book begins with a forward by actor Jeff Bridges who voices the Aviator character, and is framed by an introduction and afterward by director Mark Osborne!
He directed Kung Fu Panda! The book is priced at $34.95 USA, $44.95 Canada, and UK £24.99, and it’s slightly embossed front cover image depicts the  aviator meeting the prince, whilst the back cover shows the prince and the fox! There are photos of the movie’s crew, sets, models and maquettes, initial developmental imagery, early ideation sketches, and the evolution of characters such as the Prince, Aviator, the Little Girl, her parents, the Fox Doll, the snake, the King, the business man, the conceited man; the elevator man, the police man, and the teacher.
There are storyboards, “color script’ panels, swatches of textures and lighting aplenty; and there are bountiful sketches, conceptual art and renderings of the tale’s devices and environments such as the Aviator’s home, his plane, the Little Girl’s house, her school, the hospital, the desert, the flower, the stars, the Grown-Up World, and Asteroid  B-612! I think that this is such a splendiferously beautiful and wonderfully informative book, which I will give the highest praise while I eagerly await the pending movie! Nextly I would like to discuss the longly – awaited
The Complete Peanuts 1999 – 2000!
It is hard to believe that this is already the final volume of The Complete Peanuts series which has collected all of Charles M. Schulz’s 17,897 daily & Sunday Peanuts newspapurr strips in their 50 year chronological order! They are reprinted in Black & White, but there is also a separate series which reprints the Sunday strips in color! This is the 25th volume of the book series published by Fantagraphics; it is a hardcover priced $29.99 in the USA, it measures 8.5″ x 6.75″ x 1.25″, and it collects final year of the Peanuts strips, plus Schulz’s purrior Li’l Folks strips from 1947 – 1950!
The book has Sally on the boards and the dust jacket; and the 312 pages include 163 pages of Peanuts, including the final strip that was published just a day after Schultz passed away; 136 pages of the Li’l Folks, the 3 page index, publisher / editor Gary Groth’s introduction to Li’l Folks and the Forward by President Obama! The associate publisher was Eric Reynolds, the archival assistant was Marcie Lee, the index compilers were Emily Hendrickson, Erin keaton and Emily Silva  the production, assembly and restoration was by Paul Baresh, and the book’s design was by Seth.
The Peanuts strips star Charlie Brown, Sally, Lucy, Linus, Rerun, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Snoopy and his brothers Spike, Andy and Olaf; Woodstock and fellow birds Harriet, Bill, Oliver, Conrad, Raymond, and Wilson; with appurrances by Schroeder, Franklin, Lydia, Emily, Peggy Jean, Pigpen, and the little pig-tailed girl! Snoopy’s guises include the attorney, author, the surgeon, the French foreign legionnaire, the Revolutionary War patriot, Santa, the Beagle Scoutmaster, the golfer, Joe Blackjack the riverboat gambler, the World War II G.I., and the World War I flying ace!
Rerun is especially prominent, and recurring plots include door to door sales, Spike and the cactus, Charlie Brown’s dance lessons, baseball season, school and homework, going to the movies and waiting on the bus. The 11 November 1999 strip is a tribute to Ernie Pyle! There is a big difference in the art style and format of Li’l Folks strips, but  Schulz’s humor, situation and Beagles are unmistakable! It is a beautiful, fun book which poignantly tops off the amazing achievment of The Complete Peanuts series! This concludes our book reports, and now here is Nya-sensei with
The Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Arigato! This is the portion of The Mew in which we honor famous nekomimi characters of myths, movies, TV, comics, literature, internet, games and toys, whether they are part cat, anthropomorphic feline females, shape-shifters, or ladies of feline style or cattitude to be considered as “honorary” catgirls! This month we will shine the spotlight upon four more ladies of the cinema, TV and stage!

Actress and model Barbara Shelley was born in London on 15 August 1933 and she is purrhaps best known for her roles in movies made by Hammer Film Productions such as Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Gorgon, Quatermass and the Pit, Rasputin the Mad Monk, The Camp on Blood Island, Mantrap, and Shadow of the Cat! Purrior to her Hammer years, in 1957 she starred as the title character in Alfred Shaughnessy’s suspensefully supurrnatural Cat Girl movie!
In Cat Girl, Shelley purrtrays Leonora Johnson whose uncle summons her to his home which she will inherit in the nya. He has a leopurrd too, and tells her that she will also inherit the ancestral secret curse, that her spirit will swap bodies with the leopurrd to purrey upon others! She disbelieves this, but the leopurrd gets loose to kill again, including Leonora’s cheating husband! She thinks she is delusional, but the transference happens again with the tragic results.
Speaking of leopurrds, because of her lovely leopurrd purrint attire, we have purreviously shown the spotlight upon actress and spokespurrson Sofia Vergara, who purrtrays Gloria Pritchett on the hilarious TV sitcom series Modern Family, and nyow we wish to include Sarah Hyland, who purrtrays Gloria’s grand-daughter-in-law Haley Dunphy, for her kuronekomimi cosplay in the 2nd season’s amewsing Halloween epurrsode!
In that tale, Haley’s mom Claire (purrtrayed by Julie Bowen) had elaborate plans for the families’ Halloween decorations, costumes, skits, FX and treats, but the festivity was hindered due to family, job and neighbor drama. Haley’s initial costume was compurrised of the kitty ears, collar, tank top, shorts, tail, and high – heeled boots, but it was the very short – lived cosplay, because her displeased mom told her to change clothes!
Actress / songstress Ariana Grande not only purrtrayed the character Caterina “Cat” Valentine in TV series such as Sam & Cat, iCarly, and Victorious, but she has worn kemonomimi headbands in concert! In her 2016 wall calendar published by Brown Trout, she wears the Black cat ears in February’s photo; and White cat ears in the March, June and August photos! She wears sheer bunny ears in the September photo, and cat ears again for the November photo!
The stage costumes of felines and other animal characters are quite fabulous in the mewsical stage purrduction of The Lion King, which is based upon Disney’s 1994 animated Lion King movieSince the stage mewsical purremiered in 1997, the cub and adult versions of Queen Nala the lioness have been purrtrayed in many countries by many actresses!
They have included Gaia Aikman, Paula Collins, Cajai Fellows, Adia Ginneh, Nia Hallaway, Heather Headly, Paulette Ivory, K’Lynn Jackman, Cajai Fellows Johnson, Jennifer Josephs, Nokubonga Khuzwayo, Sonya Leslie, Ella Marshall-Pinder, Dominique Moore, Melina M’Poy, Kajuana Shuford, Kissy Simmons and Grace Capeless Young, to name a few!.
For more information, I will suggest Nala’s page at at The Lion King Wiki http://lionking.wikia.com/wiki/Nala, the mewsical’s page at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_King_(musical),  and the mewsical’s page at the Internet Broadway Database http://www.ibdb.com/Show/View/5421! That will conclude this month’s spotlight, but next month it will shine again on another clowder of celebrity catgirls, and nyow here is Petra to purrsent the latest

additions to Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art!

For those who are here for the first time, the Art Galleries 1-7 display images by Mike Moon, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their kind purrmissions, nya! The most recent pics are on the lowermost row of the widdle “thumbnail” portions of the pics, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya!
In Guest Gallery 4 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest4.htmwe are purroud to purrsent the “Summer Visitor” by Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com, who was our September 2009 guest, nya! Rebecca used pens & copic markers to render this illustration of the lovely foxgirl who is visited by the beautiful butterfly by the mound of mushrooms, nya! She has the very lovely vulpine ears and White – tipped tail tail to match her long lush Black coiffure, as she wears the ruffled tank top, jeans shorts and hiking shoes, nya!
Then we have Rebecca’s illustration of “Nystia’s Bikini Armor”, nya! Rebecca’s character in Mike’s RPG, Nystia is a vampurric faerie, expurrt alchemist, powerful mage, sheriff of her town, the leader of a quest, and member of a girl band, nya! She is wearing the magickal Red bikini armor, which is one of five bikini armors possessed by her group, nya! Rebecca used Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop CS6 and a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet to render Nystia, with a screen – shot from the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim video game used for the background scenery, nya!
Then we are delighted to display a pic of a “Lazy Day” for our friend Lina the lifeguard at our island’s Lake Neko, illustrated by our friend Meesha Walker http://www.sanjuuishi.deviantart.com, who was the June 2015 guest of The Mew, nya! Lina is a lamia snake girl, whose body below the hips resembles a 17.5 ft long version of a North Carolina Outer Banks Kingsnake, and she looks so serenely coiled around a tree in the lush maritime forest around the lake, nya! Meesha rendered the scene with gouache paint and colored pencils, nya!
Nextly in Guest Gallery 4 is “Neko Lingerie” by TonomuraBix http://tonomurabix.deviantart.com who was also among our guests for the March 2008 Mew, nya! Bix used the copic markers, gel pens and the chalk pastels to render this illustration of the alluring lass wearing the cute fuzzy White nekomimi cowl, gloves, boots and Gold bell atop the daring lingerie, with her tautly firm abs framed between the Black bra with the kitty keyhole, and the kuroneko – style panty with the adorable paw – like ornaments dangling from the straps, nya!
Then we are pleased to purrsent this darling fan art of “Chi” by Misty Hopkins http://bunnychai.blogspot.com who was among our guests for the March 2008 Mew, nya! Chi is a cute type of gynoid known as a Persocom with the cup-like ear pinna, nya! She was found and adopted by a student named Hideki in the beautiful, bittersweet Japanese manga and anime series Chobits created by the Clamp studio, nya! Misty pencilled this widdle sketch of Chi who is wearing a camisole with thin straps and the frilly sweetheart neckline, nya!
We are also pleased to unveil Misty’s illustration of  “Strawberry & Gary”, nya! Strawberry is a lovely, sweet. Pink-haired gynoid inspired by the delightful Saber Marionettes J anime series, and Misty’s original character Gary the Fox is the mascot for Misty’s  sites, nya! In this brightly surreal scene, they are taking the delightful dip in the colorful pond while they savor the delicious, nutritious strawberries, nya! Misty used the Copic Multiliner pen, Faber Castell pens, Purrrismacolor markers, Crayola and other colored pencils, nya!
After that in Guest Gallery 4 is our web master Jamie Robertson’s http://jamiecotc.com beautiful scene of the “Spring Equinox”, starring his character Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan, who the heroic witchy were-panther star of Jamie’s web comic  Clan of the Cats http://clanofthecats.com, nya! Barefoot in the flowy purretty purrple gown amongst the trees, Chelsea observes intently the swirling vernal magick within in the crystal ball, nya! Jamie rendered this beautiful scene with Painter 216, Photoshop CC215, and Clip Studio Paint, nya!
Then we will move along into Gallery 7 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery7.html to see Mike’s pic of “New Room Mates Lana and Sora”, nya! This depicts the meeting of original characters Sora the Chrome nekomimi gynoid in the Blue bikini and purre0, who placed the purrsonals ad for a new room mate to share her flat, and Lana the Green alien bug girl in the Green bikini, gloves, boots, belt and cape has responded to the ad, so they have the several co-habitational details to discuss, nya!
Then in Gallery 7 is Mike’s fan art of “Haruka”, alias Sailor Uranus who is among the supurr heroines in the Sailor Moon manga created by Naoko Takeuchi, nya! Haruka and her teammates defend the Earth from villains, monsters and disasters, but here she is undressing for the leisure time, showing the bit of bra and panty as she takes off her dress shirt, pants and necktie, nya! Mike used pencils, colored pencils, pens, markers, Photoshop CS3 and the mouse to render Haruka. Lana and Sora, nya!
Nyow it is time for fan art of Marvel-ous catgirls, nya! In Gallery 7 is Mike’s pic of Marvel’s “Shuri”! Purrincess Shuri of the African nation of Wakanda is the sister of T’Challa the Black Panther, but in certain situations she has assumed the guise of the Black Panther, nya! She is Storm’s sister-in-law too, nya! She is wearing the tight costume made of vibranium material with the fur trim, sharp claws and kuroneko mask, as glances our way whilst she purrches atop the high tree branch in the jungle, nya!
Then we have an image of yet another fiercely feisty feline femme fatale from the Marvel Comics, in Mike’s fan art of Ava Ava Ayala alias the “White Tiger”, nya! She is a supurr heroine of the Puerto Rican heritage, with the mystic fierce feline powers, and she is the 5th purrson to have the guise of The White Tiger, nya! In this scene she is purrtrolling the urban jungle in search of criminal purrey to pounce upon, nya! Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to render the illustrations of Shuri and Ava, nya!
Nextly are 2 more bits of Mike’s fan art to commemorate Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary, nya! The “Ilia Purrobe” scene imagines V’ger’s humanoid purrobe mechanism reposingly purrched upon the starship U.S.S Enterpurrise’s purrimary navigational dome atop the bridge, while the starship is trapped within V’ger’s vessel, nya! Wearing the transpurrent sandals and short robe, the purrobe is a realistic duplicate of the ship’s missing navigator Lt. Ilia, who was from the planet Delta IV, but disappurred when the ship encountered V’ger, nya.
Star Trek – The Motion Picture is Mike’s favorite movie, in which Ilia was purrtrayed by Persis Khambatta (2 October 1948 – 18 August 1998), and he used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to render this illustration and the accompanying size compurrison diagram, which shows how tiny she is compurred to the ship, nya! So, what do y’all think of the art, nya?
You know, the color of those shrooms matches the visiting butterfly, and the widdle ring around the schrooms sort of echoes the ruffles of the fox girl’s tank top!
The fox girl’s mildly surpurrised expurression is adorable as she meets the butterfly, and Nystia’s expurression is purriceless as she hefts the foamy beverage!
Hai hai and I love the dark Blood red color and patterns upon Nystia’s bikini armor, and I adore the scales and chain-like pattern of Lina’s Brown snakey parts!
Lina is supple and lithe with her  tail sumptuously coiled around the branch… and the lingerie girl has the lovely dark skin, Purrple hair, and soft fuzzy garment!
Mary Nyan:
The halation, sheen, highlights and shading are terrific aspects of the lingerie pic, and I love I love Chi’s relaxed pose and her flowy twists of twin – tail braids!
Chi has cute details of the choker, bracelet and the lace of the camisole; and I love Strawberry’s detached sleeve, cut-out pants, and that dangling medallion!

That is such a playfully purretty pic of Gary and – and Strawberry, nya! Nyow my tummy craves the strawberry milk shake, but I will try to wait until the luau nya!
Jamie supurrbly rendered Chelsea’s luscious hair with the stripe, the fabric folds and the drapurry of her gown with the detached sleeves, and the ornate trim.

Chelsea seems quite serenely intrigued by the crystal ball amidst the trees… and her fellow “panther girl” Shuri has found the nice branch to purrch upon, nya!

She seems frowny as if her cat nap was unwisely disturbed! Ava looks ready to sink her claws into any crooks she finds, and I love her purretty Green amulet!

Her White costume is in lovely contrast with her ponytailed Black hair! Haruka seems cheerful as we watch her undress purrior to the fun time with her girlfriend Michiru!
Hopefully Sora & Lana will become good friends too, nya! Their sliding shoji wall panels offer the bright garden view, whilst the dark Blue of V’ger is the great contrast for Ilia, nya!
I hoped to show more of the Enterprise, but as y’all can see by the chart, then Ilia would too tiny in the scene! Ah, well, Petra, thank you for presenting the art!

Doistashimaste, nya! I am glad that it focuses upon Ilia, and if she was much teensier then we could not notice her details such as the widdle Pink glow of her–

(The easily distrracted catgirl with her camera scampurrs after the large creamy Green moth)
the cat lady sings…
TARA-CHAN, NYA! (sigh) There she goes again, nya!
The nature photography must be served, and the Actias luna is a beautiful insect.
(snapping the photos) Nya!
I want a photo too! (scampurrs after Tara-chan and the moth)
Oh well, it is almost time for our Aftermew Luau, anyway!
Well, I guess that will wrap it up for another edition of The Mew!
We wish to thank Meesha, Rebecca, Misty, Bix and Jamie for the beautiful art, nya!
We also thank Jamie for his web mastery here at The Mew and Catgirl Island…
