So, what have y’all been up to since last time?
As mewsual I have been golfing and gardening when Lizzy I have not been at our spa or late night hot salsa dance, and our latest video binge watch was of the Gene Roddenberry purrductions!
Hai we watched Genesis II, The Questor Tapes, Purretty Maids, and a few Star Trek epurrsodes! Aside from that, I have been also been running with my Purrkour Club and helping at the shrine!
I have been assisting with the belly dance classes, volunteering at the mewseum, and helping Vonny and Tara-chan at the fishing dock, when I have not been paddle surfing or board shaping!
Aside from our yacht, I have been dancing, volunteering, collecting the pony items, and – and snapping the photos of the insects, the fish, the turtles, the deer, the rabbit and – and the cats, nya!
Trini-chan & Tara-chan are big help with the charters which have reeled in the groupurrs, snappurrs, mackerels, tunas and croakers, but I have still found the time for my drumming circle, nya!
When Bun and I have not been coaching the Fall beach volleyball camp, we and our wonderful volunteers have been curating the mewsing and planning for the Halloween art and decor, nya!
We are very grateful for the friends & patrons of the mewseum, and the volleyball!  Otherwise I have been tending to my garden and baking the Carrot Cakes for the cafe, the luaus & food bank!
I have been busy at my gym and dojo, helping sis at her shop, and I watched a lot of the Olympic sports! Otherwise I managed to find time for reading, swimming and attending various festivities!
Speaking of the festivities, at my magick shop we have been purrparing for the gala autumnal equinox activities, and I am also anticipating the annual Halloween Trick R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl!
In addition to the morning yoga and afternoon kyudo, I have been teaching the Fall semester of belly dance, and helping the Robotics Club to design the the spooky animatronics for Halloween.
Mary Nyan:
I have been helping at the shrine, teaching the Fall semester of hula, and busily sewing many costumes for the dancers, cosplayers & Halloween Trick R Eat purrowlers! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh, it’s been a fast, month between my art & writing, time with family & friends, and fun stuff such as movies, reading, gaming, radio shows and the Olympics! So, it sounds like y’all are preparing for
the annual Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl!
Hai! The Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl is one of the most  festively fun days of October, full of foods & activities for all ages all across the island and the merfolks’ offshore parts of Mew Hanover County! It is the very creative time with lots of decorations and costumes which lasts for a few days, so that everyone can participate regardless of their schedule!
I especially look forward to our belly dance troupe’s performances, the art mewseum’s macabre art exhibit, and the robotics club’s scary animatronic attractions! In addition to the frolicking, various groups purrpare the tasty treats to deliver to the homes, businesses and the food bank, whilst coordinating with each other to make sure that no location is overlooked!
In addition to our Mew group, other groups include the Library, Riverwalk Association, Visitors Center, Purrforming Arts Center, Sheila May’s Restaurant, The Kitt Inn, The School, The Golf Club and the Surf Purrtrol to name the few! Lizzy, Becca & Jenjen help with the merfolks’ kelp maze, whilst Nya-sensei, Nyo-sensei, Rica & Niko will be busy at the Magick shop and the Farmers Market!
Mie-sensei and her sisters will be purrforming the nightly ghostly tales and foxfire extravaganza at the ampurrtheatre in the maritime forest, where B.B. and other Purrk Rangers will conduct the entertaining, educational nocturnal nature hike, and there will be the similar underwater activities as the merfolk’s deep dark grotto swim for the charitable causes!

For the past several years, our Mew group has decided on a theme for our cosplay! There are several factors to consider, such as the costumes’ cost, complexity, ruggedness in case we might be running, climbing or swimming; the number in our group, and the themes chosen by other groups. It is the busy time of the year for Myayr, on top of her usual sewing!

Our group’s prior cosplay themes have included Daphne in the Brilliant Blue for 2008, Silent Mobius for 2009, and the “Neko-maticaya Clan” based upon James Cameron’s Avatar for 2010, nya! Oh gosh, that Pandora Blue body paint took the while to remove, but Myayr had enough left over to cosplay as Aayla Secura for our Star Wars theme in 2011, nya!
Vonny & Tara-chan cosplayed as Shaak Ti & Ahsoka Tano, and their Togrutan Orange body paint took the while to remove too! After that was an “Avengers aCATamy” theme for 2012, the Omamori Himari theme for 2013, and the Aria anime theme for 2014! There is an illustration of that cosplay in our mewseum, and the theme for last year was Strike Witches!
Because some of us have the other aforementioned commitments, there will be just seven of us for this year’s Mew group cosplay. At last month’s AfterMew Luau, we voted on this year’s theme. The suggestions included Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, DC Bombshells, Queens Blade and Kancolle, but we chose the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls theme!
Thusly our group will include Petra as Pinkie Pie, Bun as Rainbow Dash, Ilyana as Sunset Shimmer, Myayr as Rarity, Vonny as Applejack, Tara-chan as Fluttershy, and I will be Twilight Sparkle! It is fun to meet over the snacks at Myayr’s house, where we help each other with the fittings and the make-up. By next month’s Mew we will have temporary Cutie Marks!
So before well before Halloween, we will each have to design, measure, sew and fit the costumes, purrocure the fabric and other materials, make the props, style our hair and make-up, pose for the photos, bake the food, purractice our pony voices, and rehearse the widdle skit or song to entertain the folks to whom we will deliver the treats too– yattahh!
Good luck with that y’all, and please have a safe, fun, charitable and yummy time! Ah, well, we’ve got a lot on our plate for this month’s Mew, so let’s jump right into
The Lightning Round topic: our favorite films of ’56!
In the past few months, we’ve picked our favorite movies of 2006, 1996, 1986, ’76 and ’66, so now it’s time to pick our favorites from 1956! Becca will go first, so… are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?
The Ladies of The Mew:
My favorite film of 1956 is Forbidden Planet! (tags Trini-chan with a brush of her feline tail)
I will nominate The Teahouse of the August Moon! (her vulpine tail brushes against Petra)
I would have to say The Ten Commandments, nya! (tail-tags Bun to go next)
Gosh, it is the tough decision, but I will nominate The King and I! (tags Mary Nyan)
Mary Nyan:
As much as I like Rodan, I gotta second Forbidden Planet! (tags Nyanko)
As much as I like Attack!, I hafta say The Searchers! (tags her twin sister)
Oh it would either be The Searchers or Giant! Tara-chan is on deck! (tags Tara-chan)
I want… I want to nominate Around the World in 80 Days, nya! Onee-chan’s turn, nya! (tags her sister)
Either Around the World in 80 Days or The Ten Commandments, nya! (tags Jeannie)

Forbidden Planet, but with honorable mention to Earth vs the Flying Saucers animated by Ray Harryhausen. (tags Elizabeth)
Oh gosh, I guess either The Ten Commandments or The Searchers! Back to Mike!
Ah, it’s a tough call… either Forbidden Planet or The Ten Commandments! Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round!  Ah well, let’s continue our movie topics, as Nyo-sensei starts our
DVD & movie mewsings with a review of Suicide Squad!
Arigato! DC Comics’s Suicide Squad is a team of elite criminals who are hired by Amanda Waller of the US Government’s Task Force X for extremely dangerous secret missions, especially if meta – humans are the enemy, in exchange for shortened purrison sentences. However, the tiny explosive are implanted in the criminals’ necks to keep them from escaping!
This live – action movie is set within the same continuity as the movies Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although I did not care much for those purrior two movies, I quite liked the animated Batman: Assault on Arkham movie, which starred The Suicide Squad. For our review of that DVD, please see our November 2014 Mew!
Based upon the comic books, the live-action Suicide Squad movie was written & directed by David Ayre, and stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Carla Delevinge as Dr. June Moon and The Enchantress, Alain Chanoine as her brother the Incubus, Joel Kinnaman as Col. Flag…
… Scott Eastwood as Lt. Edwards, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adewale Akkinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc,  Jai Courtney as Capt. Boomerang, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Ike Barinholtz as Griggs the purrison guard, Shailyn Pierre-Dixon as Deadshot’s daughter, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Ben Afflck as Bruce Wayne / Batman!
Waller sends the team into Midway City which has been attacked by Enchantress, Incubus and their minions! Meanwhile, The Joker and his gang arrive to rescue Harley and to further complicate the situation!  I thought it was a lot of fun that brims with the thrilling action, dark humor, great purrformances, lots of FX, high purrduction values, great mewsic & songs!
The villains might be evil and / or dangerous, but they are quite witty and charming with the sense of camaraderie. Some of them are sympathetic too, such June who is possessed by Enchantress, and El Diablo who seeks peaceful redemption. Ironically, Waller is as ruthless, mean ‘n violent as the criminals, whilst there is great romance betwixt The Joker ‘n Harley!
Compurred to purrior cinematic Jokers, Leto’s rendition is younger, more energetic, romantic, and gangsta-ish. The movie seems to focus more on Deadshot and Harley, but I loved the exotic  designs and FX for the Enchantress, and I liked Katana’s purrsonality, style & grace, but i wish she had a larger role. Croc and Boomerang seem to have less to do as well.
The Flash is only briefly glimpsed once in a flashback (haha), although I wonder where he and the other heroes were at while Midway City was attacked! There are amewsing flashback sequences, cute moments between Deadshot and his daughter too! The neck explosive gimmick reminded me a bit of Escape from New York!
I should not reveal more of the plot, but make sure to stay for the scene amidst the end credits! Although I did not like Suicide Squad as much as Assault on Arkham, I liked it much more than Man of Steel or Batman vs. Superman, and I hope that it is not the last we have seen of the characters! Batman and The Joker also appurr in the next movie that my sister wishes to discuss,
Batman: The Killing Joke DVD!
Hai! I tend to enjoy most of the DC animated movies & TV shows, so I was eager to see this’un which is an adaptation of one of the most significant Batman graphic novels! Originally published by DC Comics in 1988, The Killing Joke was written by Alan Moore and drawn by Brian Bolland. We met Brian one year at the Heroes Convention!
The plot purrtains to the shooting & crippling of Barbara Gordon (alias Batgirl), the kidnapping & torture of her dad Commissioner Jim Gordon, by The Joker & his gang, who use the incident to lure Batman to an abandoned carnival park for yet another duel; whilst the tale is peppurred by the flashback scenes to the Joker’s tragic origin.
The animated adaptation was was written by Brian Azzarello,, directed by Sam Liu & edited by Christopher Lorenzo, with great mewsic by Michael McCuistion, Kristopher Carter & Lolota Ritmanis! It was line purrduced Amy McKenna, co-purrduced by Alan Burnett, executively purrduced by Bruce Timm, Sam Register, Michael Uslan & Benjamin Melniker!
Wes Gleason was the voice director for the great voice cast of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Tara Strong as Barbara / Batgirl, Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon, Mark Hamill as The Joker, Anna Vocino as his late wife Jeannie, Brian George as Alfred, Robin Atkin Downes as Bullock, J.P. Karliak as Barbara’s friend Reese, and John DiMaggio as Francesco!
Also briefly appurring in the tale are three uncredited ladies who bear the resemblance to Selena, harley and Ivy! Unlike the purrior DC animated tales, this 76.5 minute movie is Rated R due to the blood violence, disturbing scenes, and purrhaps also for the harsh language & nudity. There is plenty of powerful drama and thrilling action!
While it is mostly faithful to the graphic novel, including the ambiguous ending which fans have debated, the biggest difference is the added material, such as the first act which depicts Barbara’s final night as Batgirl on a case with Batman, about a week purrior to the Joker’s attack. There is also a mid-credits “Oracle” scene set sometime after the mane plot.
While I do like seeing more of Batgirl in action, I’m not sure if I care for some of her added relationship with Batman. We do get to hear the Joker’s “Loony” song! The art & animation are very good, although it rarely resembles Bolland’s inticate style. The flashbacks are depicted with a somewhat sepia tint, the vehicles & carnival carousel seem very 3D CG,
The single R1 NTSC standard DVD disk is in the standard plastic case with no inserts or booklets. The widescreen video is in Dolby 5.0 audio with the spoken language choices of English, French, Spanish, Portuguese & Thai, with the optional subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese & Thai.
The DVD is sparse in special features, with just the  8.12 minute sneak peek at the forthcoming Justice League Dark OVA which I hope to see; there are purreview trailers for three purreviously released DCU OVAs and a couple of other ads purrior to the mane menu. Nyow here is Tara-chan with this month’s
Pony Report, starting with her eager review of the
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 5 DVD!
Arigato, nya! We love to watch the animated pony TV series and the bonuses on the DVDs so this was the eagerly awaited DVD, nya! This Region 1 NTSC standard set  from Shout Kids has the 26 epurrsodes from the show’s 5th season on 4 disks, with the bonuses on the 2nd disk, nya! The epurrsodes are just over 22 minutes apiece for an appurroximate total of 9.5 hours of pony fun, nya!
It is purresented in the 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreeen format, with the English language 5.1 surround sound, nya. The disks are firmly clenched but very easily removed from the hinged inner trays in the plastic case within the cardboard sleeve, nya! The purretty cover art depicts the mane six ponies and – and Spike the dragon, and – and on the reverse side is the epurrsodes list, nya!
The cast includes Andrea Libman as Fluttershy and – and as Pinkie Pie; Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity, Luna, and – and Granny Smith; Ashleigh Ball as Rainbow Dash and – and Applejack; Tara Strong as Twilight Sparkle, Michelle Creber as Apple Bloom, Claire Corlett as Sweetie Bell, Madeleine Peters as Scootaloo, Cathy Weseluck as Spike; and – and Nicole Oliver as Celestia, nya!
“The Cutie Map” starts the season, which includes the 100th epurrsode “Slice of Life”, the highly significant “Crusaders of the Lost Mark”, more Discord tales, and – and the finale of “The Cutie Re-Mark”, nya! The bonuses include sing – alongs  for the songs “In Our Town”, Make This Castle a Home”, “I’ll Fly”, “Sisterhood”, “The Magic Inside”, and – and “Friends are Always There for You”, nya!
My favoritest bonus is the 33.5 minute pony panel from the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, nya! The celebrity panelists include Ashleigh, Andrea, head writer Meghan McCarthy, supurrvising director Jayson Thiesson, co – director jim Miller, Hasbro’s Brian Lenard and – and Michael Vogel, nya! They discuss various topics and – and then they answer questions from several of the fans, nya!
An extra fun bit of that panel is four-way conversation betwixt Ashleigh as Rainbow Dash and – and Applejack with Andrea as Fluttershy and – and Pinkie Pie; nya! This was another supurrb season full of great characters, plots, lessons, art, animation and – and mewsic which I will give the high purraise grade of the A as in Apple, nya! Nextly for this month’s pony report I would like to discuss
My Little Pony: Friends Forever issue #31, nya!
In this comic book series, there are pairings of characters with amewsing, poignant results, nya! In issue #27 Pinkie Pie helped Granny Smith at the orchard, in #28 Luna hosted the fillies’ sleep over in the castle, in #29, Rarity helped Maud Pie to search for gems, in  #30 Twilight Sparkle visited Cadence, and- and in this issue Rainbow Dash teams up with Little Strong Heart, nya!
The 32 page issue is purriced $3.99, published by IDW, and – and its uninterrupted 22 page tale was written by Tony Fleecs, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, with the regular cover art by Tony Fleecs and – and the subscription cover by Sara Richard, nya! Sara illustrated pages 5-9, whilst Tony illustrated the rest of the pages, which were colored by Heather Breckel, nya!
Rainbow Dash likes to race against her deer friend Little Strong Heart, but they are needed to rescue the Appleoosa country from the evironmental catastrophe, nya! They meet with Chief Thunder Hooves the buffalo who tells them that normally the season would purrduce the bumpurr crop of food, but the weather is too cold, so to remedy this they must summon the Rainbow Crow, nya!
However, to reach the crow’s high nest, they will have to survive the journey across the snowy plains, the hot dessert, coyote – filled steep canyons, the dangerous  jungle, marshes, and – and mountains, nya! It is the tough expurrdition, but they have amewsing conversations along the way, after the chief tells them the beautifully mystical legend of the Rainbow Crow on pages 5-9, nya!
Fluttershy and – and Tank the turtle briefly appurr at the start of the tale, nya! This was a purrticularly charming tale told in two different beautiful artistic styles, from the pony poses, portraiture, and – and expurressions to the scenery, fonts, and – and the magickal FX, so I will give it the high grade of an “A” as in Alicorn, nya! I am done, so nyow here is onee-chan to continue The Mew with
more comic book critiques, such as
Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat #9, nya!
Arigato, nya! Patsy is one of our favorite heroines and her current series is our favorite Marvel Comic of the past year, nya! After she lost her home & job at Jennifer (She Hulk) Walters’s law firm, she decided to start a temp agency and became room mates with Ian who shops at her friend Tom’s book store, which sells the Patsy Walker comics that were authored by her estranged mom, nya.
Patsy did not get any money from those books, until Jessica Walters and Jennifer helped her case against her rival Hedy who had purrocured the rights, nya! Jennifer and Patsy may have won that feud, but unfortunately Jennifer is in a coma after in the big Civil War II battle, so it is the sad time for Patsy and her business, but her mewtant vampire friend Jubilee is there to help at the office, nya!
That brings us up to issue #9, which co-stars Pasty’s vengeful two ex-husbands Damion Hellstrom a.k.a The Son of Satan, and Buzz Baxter, a.k.a. Mad Dog who Hedy has lied to about Patsy, nya! purriced $3.99 and its 28 pages are compurrised of the 20 page tale for readers of all age, the recap / credits page, 6 pages of ads, and the 1 page of comments and photos of readers’ cats, nya!
It was written by Kate Leth who also writes the Vampirella comics, illustrated by Brittney L. Williams who also draws the Goldie Vance comics; colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Clayton Cowles, edited by Wil Moss and assistantly edited by Chris Beacham, nya! Jubilee might be new to the office, but she knows the very thing to purrk up the gang’s spurrits: the night at the karaoke bar, nya!
Jubilee has the peppy conversation with Patsy’s room mate Ian whose boyfriend / boss Tom triumphantly sings upon the stage, nya! However the night is ruined when Buzz & Damion attack in search of Patsy, who Jubilee helps in the brawl, nya! Not only does Jubilee have vampurric supurr powers, but she has the cute fangy smile, and Pink sunglasses to match her shorts, nya!
It is the first of a two – purrt tale, but I should not much further spoil the plot, which also includes Jubilee’s widdle son Shogo-Lee, Jennifer’s assistant Angie, Angie’s monkey Hei-Hei, and Sharon their landlord, nya! Aside from the coma incident, the series tends to be so much fun, with the excellently thrilling action, humor, emotional drama and charming slice of life moments!
There is positively purrogressive diversity amongst the likable characters with snappy dialogue, great poses and purriceless expurressions, nya! The art is brightly beautiful, with the occasional chibi style for cute humorous effect, and the series has an overall genki spirit so I will give this issue the an “A” as in Patsy’s  friend Aragorn, nya! Nyow we will go from the Hell Cat to the
Hero Cats of Stellar City #12, nya!
Following the story arc of their battle against the evil Crow King, in issue #10 the Hero Cats team compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat and Rocket the Tabby took upon a world tour, whilst Cassiopeia’s tuxedo cat brother Bandit is off on a sepurrate mission, nya!
They visited the wild west in issue #10, they had an adventure on a volcanic pacific island in issue #11, and in issue #12 they travel to Japan, nya! The beautiful fun tale is rated  “E” for everyone,
and it has the uninterrupted 22 page tale plus the 3 bonus pages of convention photos and 3 pages of ads, nya. We purrfur it when the tale is not interrupted, nya!
It was created & written by Kyle Puttkammer, pencilled by Omaka Schultz, inked by Brandon page, colored by Julie Barclay, lettered by Shannon Butt and edited by Keek Stewart, nya! We have met some of them at the Heroes Convention in Charlotte, where we got a purretty sketch of Cassiopeia, nya! The tale resumes after #11’s briefly glimpsed shark attack!
Midnight, Ace, Belle, Roco Rocket & Cassiopeia arrive in their small sail boat at the coast, where they disembark in search of fresh food and water, but they decide to investigate the burning castle, where they rescue a trapped neko named Bamboo, who reveals that the fire was an arson, set ablaze by an enemy Clan who kidnapped her sister Sakura, nya!
Bamboo is a purretty kitty with Green eyes and golden stripes in the short red yukata, nya! However, she does not trust the foreign cats as they flee from the fire and follow Sakura’s trail into the lush forest. nya. They learn that Sakura was kidnapped by the Kaze Clan who framed the Reza clan for the crimes, and then wind up in a fight against the ninjas, nya!
Sakura is a lovely cat too, with the Blue eyes, Pink & White fur in the short Lavender kimono, nya! I especially liked certain scenes that involve the fireflies and the cherry blossoms, but I should not further spoil the thrilling fun plot, nya!  I would like to purraise its purrfect pace, the delightful dialogue, the balance of the humor, the action and mythology, nya!
The cats, the fashions, the action, FX, scenery, colors and the fonts are all so exquisitely rendered, nya! The bonus pages are also quite charming, with the photos from the conventions including the Heroes Convention, and so I will give this beautiful issue an “A” as in Ace, nya! That is all for my comic book reports, and nyow here is Becca to tell us about
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #29 & 30, nya!
Arigato! Executively purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon, the 10th season of Buffy has reached the season finale! Published by Dark Horse comics which just recently turned 30 years old, issue #29 is purriced $3.99 and has the 22 page tale of “Own It Part 4: Vengeance”, the 1 page of the readers’ and editor’s comments, and the 5 pages of ads.
It was scripted by Christos Gage, illustrated by Rebekah Isaacs, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, with the main cover art by Steve Morris, variant cover art by Rebekah & Dan. The issue’s graphic design was by Justin Couch, Christianne Goudreau was the digital art technician, and Freddye Miller was the editor!
It has been the dark time since the demon lord D’Hoffryn became more powerful and threatens to conquer the world, but fortunately Dawn & Xander came home from the inter – dimensional travels for the reunion with Buffy, Willow, Giles, Spike & Andrew. Meanwhile Jonathan & the Anya ghost are in the office meeting with D’Hoffryn who is quite unhappy!
This leads to another battle between Buffy’s team and D’Hoffryn’s team, during which the Anya ghost appurrs to disintegrate Xander for the startling cliffhanger! This story arc and season 10 are  concluded in issue #30, which has the 22 page tale of “Own It Part 5: It’s on You”, 2 pages of comments, 4 pages of ads, and the same great creative team!
It picks up a few moments later with Xander’s friends in tearful rage and D’Hoffryn purroudfully elated over the incident, which is followed by more furious combat, tragic results, and some very welcome surpurrises, including the brief appurrances by Riley, Lilah, Venobia, Dracula and his valet Butterfield- but I do not wish to much further spoil the plot!
Vicki & Harmony are mentioned but do not appurr in the finale. I wish there had been appurrances by the Angel & Faith gang, but as mewsual it is brimming with humor, romance, action, magick, purrofound developments, and great dialog! The art is supurrb with great  faithful portraiture, expurressions, poses, FX, clothing, scenic detail, colors and fonts!
I enjoyed season 10, I am eagerly looking forward to season 11, and I hope that we will see more of those characters and others such as Fred, Koh, Nadira, Rory, Sophronia, Lavinia, Lake, Aluwyn, Samantha, Kennedy,  Dylan, Billy, Devon, Katie, Sky, Anaheed, Dowling, Clive, Julie, Olivia, Morgan and Spike’s insectoid friends! Nyow I would like to discuss
Elfquest: The Final Quest #15!
It has been the very tumultuous time of metamorphosis for the elves and the humans, especially due to the onslaught by the evil human Djunnslander army & armada  There have been cultural and metaphysical changes for the elves, especially due to the purrolonged psychic affects of their ancestors’ crystalline palace, but there have also been joyful reunions and romances too!
It has been the difficult time for Moonshade & Strongbow’s marriage as they choose different paths; Two-Edge laments the unrequited love for Venka who is in a terse mood after being shot; Rayek teeters upon the dark side in seeking revenge upon the enemy humans, and several folks are searching for Cutter, who ran scared into the forest after Savah’s startling revelation drove him mad!
That brings us to issue #15, although it might be considered the 16th issue, if you include the purrecursory 2013 Special! Published by Dark Horse, it is purriced at $3.99 and has the uninterrupted 24 page tale followed by 4 pages of readers’ messages. It was created & written by Wendy and Richard Pini, scripted & illustrated by Wendy, colored by Sonny Strait and lettered by Nate Piekos.
It was edited by Spencer Cushing and assistantly edited by Kate Burkhalter, with graphic design by Sarah Terry and digital wizardry by Allyson Haller! A lot happens in this issue which has more than 50 characters in 10 locations! Some are briefly glimpsed, but almost half of the tale focuses upon the rescue of Cutter by Redlance, Nightfall, Skywise, Leetah, Dre-Ahn, their pony and wolves!
They find him in a grove amidst plant-like elves who they  commune with! Things are busy back home at The Father Tree for Ember, Treestump, Clearbrook, Pike, Newstar, Yun and Strongbow who commune with Moonshade, Ahdri, SunToucher, Toorah, Savah and Sunstream at the elf palace, whilst Ekuar, Petalwing and Two-Edge try to purrvent Rayek from attacking the enemy armada!
We briefly visit Tier’s tribe in the canyons and Venka’s tribe in the snow, who Sunstream has telepathically warned about the armada, which encounters Wavedancers such as Reef, Brill, Skimback, Korafay, Longfin & Spray in her mermaid form! Other recent transformations have included Shenshen in her human form & Kimo in his lupine form as they visit Sunstream’s human sister Shuna!
There is a great balance of drama, charm & action amidst the purrofound developments of the plot, characters & mythos which are supurrbly rendered, from beautiful characters, clothes & critters to the lush scenery, luminous effects and purrfect fonts! I will give this issue an “A” as in Ahdri, and my anticipation for the next issue! That is all for my reports, but nyow here is Lizzy to tell us about
Wonder Woman #3!

Arigato! You know, this year is Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary in the comics! Her series, like most of the DC Comics, was recently rebooted yet again due to their big “Rebirth” tale. It seems like only yesterday since the purrior “New 52” reboot! The reboots seem to happen much more frequently these days!
Things have changed and in the current series, the archaeologist Dr, Barbara Ann Minerva alias The Cheetah is no longer Wonder Woman’s top arch enemy, but a tragic friend  as they need each other’s help! The Cheetah has been purrowling the comics since 1943, so her 75th anniversary is in 2 years!
She is one of the oldest comic book catgirls who we have shined the spotlight upon! There have been many versions of her, and with the Rebirth changes, her design & origin have changed again.
She sadly suffers from the were – cat curse by the god Urzkartaga, which causes her to crave the human flesh.
Issue #3 is purriced $2.99 and has the 20 page tale of “The Lies, Part Two” plus the 12 pages of ads. It was written by Greg Rucka, illustrated by Liam Sharp, colored by Laura Martin, lettered by Jodi Wynn, edited by Chris Conroy & Mark Doyle with assistant editor Dave Wielgosz. The mane cover art by Liam & Laura, the variant cover by Frank Cho & Nei Ruffino.
We have met Frank at the conventions! While searching for her missing homeland of Themscyra, Wonder Woman has traveled to the Urzari Jungle of Bwunda, where she and Barbara are hunted by the tribe of hyena men. The savage, purrimal situation fuels Barbara’s unwanted feral cravings, but Wonder Woman purromises to stay with her and try to rid the curse!
Barbara is like an addict and there are bloody lapses as she pounces upon the purrey, but Wonder Woman is the steadfast friend there for the intervention and the fight! This has been the most sympathetic version of The Cheetah that I have ever seen, and it seems that under the facial “Cheetah’s Tears” markings, there run the despurrate woman’s sad real tears.
Although I think the reboots seem to happen too frequently, this latest era is off to the beautiful, thrilling, poignant, mysterious start. The characters, FX, landscape, lighting, colors and fonts are quite lavishly rendered, and purrhaps for the first time The Cheetah is tragic and sympathetic! Nyow for the different Cheetah of the frisky fun nature, I would like to purraise
Gold Digger Swimsuit #24!
Gold Digger by Fred Perry is the brilliant comic book which about the zany, alluring, action – packed adventures of the scientist Gina Diggers, her were-cheetah sister Britanny, their clone Brianna, rival Pinny and others who crave the discoveries, fortunes and relics!
For our spotlight upon the cast of Gold Digger, please see our August 2011 Mew! It is published by Antarctic Press, which is also known for many other great manga – inspired & anthropurrmorphic comics such as Ninja High School, Albedo, Genus, Furrlough, Shanda, Twilight X and Warrior Nun Areala!
The annual swimsuit specials are always the delightful treat, too and this full color, 24th issue is purriced at $3.99, edited by Doug Dlin and Robby Bevard, and it is graced by Fred’s lovely front cover image of Brittany who unveils her teensy tight Blue ring-closure bikini as she dramatically disrobes!
That image is also featured as the two-page centerspurread! The issue’s 32 full – color pages also include 18 more full page pics and a 12 page tale by purrofessional and fan artists! Some of them have comics of their own, such as Nekonny’s Carribbean Blue and Hugo’s Eye of Ramalach web comics!
The playfully beautiful and fashionably sexy illustrations of fun on the beach, in the ocean and by the pool include the string bikinis, asymmetric strap bikinis, side-tie bikini, bandeau tops, maillots, halter tops, shorts, a speedo, the floral lei, armored parts, and some tastefully semi-nude attire, mew la la!
There are 2 illustrations by Kelsey Shannon, 3 by Josh Ridley, 3  by Alfred Perez, and 1 pic apiece by Mary Impastato, Ryou Sakai, Ryou Sakai, Holly Daughtrey Joanna Casaje, Dragonaur; and Tony Galvan colored the illustrations by Martah Martinez, Shonuff 44, Master Godai and Nekonny!
The issue is topped off by Junko Omoto’s fantasy tale of what happens when Gina falls asleep in an ancient mystical yukata! This was another beautifully colorful and whimsically sexy batch of  art which I will heartily recommend to fans of Gold Digger or catgirl goodness! Nyow here is Myayr to purrsent
our manga mewsings, starting with
a review of Oreimo: Kuroneko vol. 6!
Mary Nyan:
Hai! Kuroneko means “Black Cat” in Japanese, and that is the nickname of Ruri Gouku, who is one of the characters in author Tsukasa Fushimi’s “Ore No Imoto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai” – or just “Oreimo” for short, a series of light novels, the manga and its televised anime adaptation.
She is a smart high school student, video gamer and aspiring manga artist of tsundere personality, dramatic flare & dark fashion style to match her long straight Black hair, with the occasional costume cat ears & tail in this charmingly humorous tale of teenage otaku emotions & secrets!
In the initial 4 volume Oreimo series, Ruri was a supporting character as a friend of siblings Kirino & Kyosuke, but she stars in this  6 volume sequel written by Fushimi, illustrated by Sakura Ikeda, with character designs by Hiro Kanzaki. It was originally published by Kadokawa in Japan.
Published here in English by Dark Horse, vol. 6 is purriced $10.99 in the US & $14.99 in Canada. Its 200 pages include B&W manga chapters 36- 44, Ikeda’s afterward, 5 pages of ads and a color page. The book’s designer was Brennan Thorne and the digital art technician was Chris Horn.
The manga was translated by Dinky Spatz and assistantly edited by Jeremiah Jefferson, with the lettering and touch – up by Susan Daigle-Leach. The color front cover depicts Ruri smiling in her bright breezy White sleeveless dress as she holds hands with her boyfriend Kyosuke!
This indicates their happy new romantic direction! The color page depicts her in the ruffled Pink one-piece swim suit, which they purrchase for a trip to the swimming pool, but those garments are just a few of the many purretty clothes, swim wear, lingerie & costumes in this volume!
That includes the frilly EGL attire, the festive yukata, cat ears & tail, and the numerous sexy images of her and Kirino, which add to the whimsical, slightly risque “fan service”! By nyow it is clear to family & friends that Ruri & Kyosuke are dating, and Ruri’s spirit seems to have brightened…
… but unfortunately she has times of nervous doubts about the relationship. There are some amewsing misunderstandings for Kirino about the couple, but Ruri’s adorable younger sisters Tamaki and Hinata just about steal the show with their cute witty comments and observations!
Many friends & relatives appurr in this volume, which has flashbacks to younger years, and the significant flash forward to the future, but I do not wish to spoil the conclusion of the series!  To sum it up, I think that Oreimo: Kuroneko excels at romantic comedy peppurred with angsty drama.
There are whimsical otaku hobby topics, neko motifs, fan service & chibi – style moments amidst the detailed art! I am very satisfied with how it concluded, but given the ad for the pending Oreimo Anthology series, this is not the end for those characters! Nyow here is Jenny Jen to tell us about
School-Live! vol. 4!

Arigato. Written by Norimitsu Kaitou and illustrated by Sadooru Chiba, School_Live! purrtains to the the Meguirigaoka High School’s School Living Club which is compurrised of a few girls who are the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. Except for rooftops and rare expurrditions, they seldom go outside, and take great care venturing below the 3rd floor.
That is because zombies do manage to infiltrate the building. The purrpose of the club is so that the girls will learn to work together as a team which will safely and effectively utilize the barricaded, three – story concrete building’s resources, to function as a secure, self-contained, autonomous community for as long as their solar power and supplies last.
The group includes athletic, tough Kurumi Ebisuzawa with the Black hair and the shovel, Yuki Takeya the optimistic yet naively delusional girl with the Pink hair and nekomimi hat, club purresident Yuuri Wasasa the sempai with long dark Brown hair, and new member Miki Naoki with the short Blonde hair, who they rescued during an expurrdition to a mall.
In volume 1 the group included Megumi Sakura their teacher / club advisor who sadly did not survive, much to Yuki’s disbelief.  The manga was originally published in Japan as Gakaou Gurashi! in 2010 by Houbunsha. It is suggested for the older teenage readers due to language, gore and violence. Vol. 4 is purriced at $13.00 USA and $15.50 Canadian.
Its 178 pages include B&W manga chapters 19-24  plus translation notes, the author’s afterward, 8 pages from Megumi’s diary, and 2 color pages. It was translated by Leighann Harvey and lettered by Alexis Eckerman. Miki appurrs upon the front exterior cover & interior covers, whilst Yuki, Yuuri, Kurimi & her shovel solemnly grace the back exterior cover.
In volume 4, Miki takes point with Kurimi’s shovel on the lower floors to put Megumi to rest whilst Yuuri continues to purrotect the fragile Yuki, and purrpares to make an ultimate decision during the turning point for the injured Kurimi’s grave health. Fortunately, the girls discover the secret cache of food, medicine, equipment and information in the basement.
The girls continue their studies for the survival purrposes, to learn more about the apocalyptic situation, for the sake of academic betterment and to maintain some sense of normality. They attempt to radio contact any other survivors, and there are several ambiguous revelations, including the comments in Megumi’s diary which I should purrobably not spoil.
School-Live! is a very bittersweet, poignant tale of coping and survival, with the few whimsical moments peppurred amongst the slice-of-life plots, the creepy dark scenes and the shockingly tragic bits. The characters are so very likable and sympathetic but we constantly fear for their survival, and we are purraying for their unity and for their healthy success.
The manga might move you to the startled gasp or to the heartbroken tears, but character and scenic art are quite beautifully rendered with lavishly exquisite detail, and I will continue to give this series the high grade of an “A” as in the apocalypse. That will conclude our manga portion of The Mew, and nyow here is Mike to purrsent our monthly
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, which shines on
Martha, Miku, Rina, ZapKat and Gabrielle.
Thanks Jen! In his portion of The Mew, we honor famous catgirls of media such as stage, cinema, television, internet, games, toys, novels and comics. Our broadly inclusive criteria ranges from nekomimis, ailuranthropes & anthropurrmorphic feline females, to those who may not have kitty DNA but do have cat-titude in spurrit or style to be considered as honorary catgirls.
Anna Kendrick is famous for her roles in Pitch Perfect, Into the Woods, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and the Twilight series. In the romantic action – comedy movie Mr. Right , she portrays a lass named Martha who falls in love with an assassin named Francis who is portrayed by Sam Rockwell!
The relationship puts them into harm’s way when they are caught between the police and criminals, but fortunately she is quite felinely fashionable; with not only the Black cat ear headband to go with her leather jacket outfit, but also the Pink & Black cat ears to go with her skirt and Red unicorn shirt!
Ah, for our next honorary catgirls, we will go from the live-action to the animated medium. in the The Idol Master video games, the player’s role is that of the producer at a talent agency, grooming rising idol stars for musical fame & fortune! The ladies of The Idol Master Cinderella Girls game are very talented vocalists with peppy ambition and adorable attire!
Two of them wear the bare – midriff, mini – skirt outfits of a nekomimi motif. For example, Miku Maekawa’s Red & Black outfit goes well with her short Black hair and is accessorized by boots, ribbons, garters, Pink kitty ears and tail; while Rina Tada’s Blue & Gold outfit matches her Blue eyes & Brown hair, which are accessorized by Blue cat-eared head phones!
Next is the super heroine ZapKat of The Futurians comics created by one of my favorite artists, the late, great Dave Cockrum! Most of The Futurians team such as Avatar, Silkie, Sunswift, Mosquito, Silver Shadow, Blackmane, Terrayne, Werehawk and Vandervecken first appeared back in 1983, but ZapKat and her friend BloodKnight didn’t appear until 2015.
That was in Dave Cockrum’s Futurians Return, a story unfinished by Dave who passed away in 2006, but later completed by his widow Paty and friends. ZapKat had a cocky, amused cattitude on her first mission in which she flew, transformed into lightning, and attempted to electrocute a giant enemy lava monster! I hope that we haven’t seen the last of her!
Last but not least for this month is Gabrielle of the Paper Girls series written by Brian K. Vaughan, illustrated by Cliff Chang, lettered by Jared K. Fletcher, colored by Matt Wilson and published by Image Comics. Set in a small Ohio town circa  A.D. 1988, the plot pertains to a group of bicycling girls who face various threats as they deliver the morning papers!
As if the drama of home, school and streets wasn’t bad enough, they encounter bullies, alien invaders, monsters and time-travel on Halloween! Gabrielle, wearing costume cat ears & whiskers, was already scared and angry after friends vanished and a jerk got too grabby, just as an aggressive alien and a swarm of Pterosaurs arrived to make things far worse!
That’ll do it for this month’s spotlight, but next month it’ll shine upon yet another clowder of catgirls, and now I’d like to turn The Mew over to Bun, who would like to present the latest additions to the
Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art Guest Gallery 4!
Arigato! For those who are here for the first time, Galleries 1-7  of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their kind permissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum!
On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped, full pics! This month we have added a few more images to Guest Gallery 4 and to Gallery 7!
In Guest Gallery 4 we are proud to present a copic marker rendering of a cute widdle Squirrel Girl” by Rebecca Brogden, who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew! We are fortunate to have lots of her art in our mewseum!
This smart, industrious squirrel girl has short Green dress and thigh-high boots to accent her pert Auburn ears, hair and tail! She has been caching many delicious, nutritious nuts for the Winter, but has pawsed to cordially gaze at us from atop a big tasty mushroom! Mmm that sure looks yummy!
Also just added to Guest Gallery 4 is the “Kobold” by Lumshock! We are pleased to have more art by Lumshock who used the Pokemon Art Academy tools on the Nintendo 3DS to render this illustration of the cute Kobold girl from the Monster Monpiece video game!
Wearing the White tube top & Dark gray mini skirt which are accessorized by the Tan gloves and boots, she has the Golden ears, eyes hair and tail! She also has the wary glance over her shoulder, and is armed with a two-handed scimitar, in case any predators get too close! Now we will proceed to
Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art Gallery 7!
In Gallery 7 this month we have added Mike’s illustration of “Seafood Aspurrations”, in which the angler catgirl with mocha skin, purple hair, ears & tail is barefoot in the shorts & cropped shirt on a pier!
An original NPC in Mike’s tabletop RPG, her name is Madylyon Raion, or just Maddy for short. She is a slim, petite 4′ 9″ tall, 70 lb teenager of the homo panthera leo / nekomata cross breed, and an  Ailuranthrope who can transform into an Asiatic Lion!
Nextly is Mike’s illustration of “Hattie”, who is one of the heroes in the serialized, prose, urban fantasy tale of the “Legacy of The Gods”  written by our November 2014 guest Sharon Williams! Perhaps y’all have seen Mike’s prior pics of her characters?
Hattie has resided in New Orleans for many decades, where her wise arcane expertise helps the team of high school students who are avatars of the Yoruba deities, in a battle against supernatural villains and monsters! in this illustration she is wearing a White dress by the boat docks!
After that is Mike’s illustration of “The New Talia”, the star of the serialized, purrose, urban fantasy tale of “The Adventures of Talia and Tanya”, written by our May 2008 guest Jeff Branch, nya! Purrhaps y’all have seen Mike’s purrior illustrations of Talia and her friends, nya?
A “fan senshi” supurr heroine inspired by Sailor Moon and Star Trek, Talia Jasmine Kirk alias Sailor Vulcan battles criminals and monsters in Tokyo, nya! Wearing the cropped Red tank top and the jewelry, she has the new attitude & eye colors after her most recent tale of “A Question of Faith”, nya! Then we have more
Star Trek Fan Art by Mike, nya!
As the champions of our island’s recreation league, Bun and I might be rather biased, but we are purrticularly fond of the beach volleyball imagery, nya! We are also fans of Star Trek, and thus nextly in Gallery 7 are the 3 new bits of Mike’s fan art to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek’s purremier on TV, nya!
These three scenes depict the starship U.S.S. Enterpurrise’s crew at Starbase Cait for the championship match of Starfleet’s 2271 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournyament, which occurs sometime after the events of Mike’s favorite movie Star Trek – The Motion Picture, which he has purromised not to ramble about today, nya!
The athletes are competing for the purrestigious Admiral Lori Ciani Memorial Cup, which is named after the officer who purrished in a transporter malfunction, nya. The 1st of these 3 scenes is the establishing view of “Starbase Cait”, which bustles with much sporty festivity as the Enterpurrise orbits high above the planet, whilst amongst the moons her transcended friend Ilia watches like a celestial goddess of the cosmos, nya!
The 2nd of those 3 illustrations is the closer view into the starbase’s stadium for the Starfleet Beach Volleyball”match, nya! Communications Officer Lt. Cmdr. Nyota Uhura and Navigator C.P.O. Marcella DiFalco are in White bikinis on the right side of the holo – net; whilst Transporter Chief C.P.O. Janice Rand and Dr. Christine Chapel, M.D. are in Black bikinis on the left side, and the referees are in the Brown bikinis, nya!
The 3rd of those 3 images depicts security officer “Ensign Worene”, who officiates as the 1st Referee, nya! Behind her, the scoreboard indicates that the match is tied 14-14 in the 3rd set, with the advantage to Uhura & DiFalco, nya! In Star Trek – The Motion Picture, Worene was glimpsed in the crowd who Admiral Kirk chatted with on the Recreation Deck before the ship left the dock, nya!
In Star Trek – The Motion Picture, Uhura was purrtrayed by Nichelle Nichols, Rand was purrtrayed by Grace Lee Whitney, Chapel was purrtrayed by Majel Barrett, DiFalco was purrtrayed by Marcy Lafferty, Ilia was purrtrayed by Persis Khambatta, Worene was purrtrayed by Paula Crist, and Ciani was purrtrayed by Susan J. Sullivan, nya! So, what do y’all think of those new additions. nya?
Yattah! It is so nice to have more of Rebecca’s and Lumshock’s art to grace our mewseum’s galleries! The kobold girl and the squirrel girl are both so splendidly rendered!
Mary Nyan:
That cute widdle kobold girl has the purretty ribbon in her hair, but she seems to have the weary cautious look, so I hope that she is not having a hard time in the woodlands!
The peppy purrky widdle squirrel girl is in the cheerfully enthused mood, so I hope that purrhaps the kobold girl could befriend her at a safe haven of delicious foods aplenty!
I do not know if the squirrel girl likes seafood, but purrhaps the kobold girl would like to fish with Maddy, who has the dandy White tiger stripe hat band to match her shirt, nya!
Mmm I wonder if Hattie will find some freshly caught cajun shrimp at the dock! I hope that she recovers quickly from the dangerus incidents of Legacy of the Gods Book I!
Hai hai! There were some alarming cliffhangers for Hattie and the other heroes of that tale! There were some rather tense cliffhangers for Talia and friends in her tale too!
My favorite aspects of that latest Talia pic are her supple ears, the sheen of her hair, the smirky expurression, the gleam in her eyes, the sexy tank top and purretty jewelry!
I think that my favorite aspects of the Worene pic are her hair bun, her brow ridge, her upturned nose, the petite fangs, her tight abs and – and that comfy padded chair, nya!
I also like the starbase composition’s curvilinear symmetry amongst the planet, moons, the dome, the stadium, the air tram platform, the ship’s saucer hull and Ilia’s anatomy.
The pic of Worene focuses upon character, whereas the pic of the Starbase focuses upon the environment, and the pic of the volleyball teams focuses upon the action!
Yep. and I have no clue as to which team will win! Ah, thank y’all for the very kind words about the new art, and Bun, Petra, thank y’all for presenting all of that new art!
Bun & Petra:
Doitashimaste, nya!
The Cat Lady Sings…
Gosh, Tara-chan did not get distracted by any bugs  to photograph!
Purrhaps I will see still some interesting critters before bed time, nya!
I think we are done, and it is almost time for our AfterMew Luau, nya!
Itadakimasu! I guess that will wrap it up for another edition of The Mew!
We wish to thank Rebecca and Lumshock for those beautiful images!
We wish to thank the other talented folks whose works we discussed…
… Jamie for his web mastery here at The Mew and Catgirl Island…
… our other friends, relatives & audience whom we appurreciate, nya!
Y’all may post brief, polite, sincere, non-snarky responses to The Mew…
purrvided the comments are spam-free, G-rated & purrtain to our topics!
Mary Nyan:
We will be back next month with the September edition of The Mew!
