Mary Nyan:
Oh as mewsual have been very busy between helping at the shrine, teaching the hula classes and enjoying the festivities! I ams til sewing costumes for the dancers and cosplayers, but it is not as hectic since Halloween!
Myayr did the great job supurrvising the Equestria Girl costumes for our our annual Halloween Trick ‘R Eat and Cosplay Purrowl, nya! Since then I have been back to my mewsual wreck diving and cataloguing the relics!
I am pleased to report that my Robotics Clubs’ spooky animatronics functioned as desired for the Halloween festivities. Otherwise things have been nominal for my morning yoga, afternoon kyudo, and belly dance troupe.
It took the while to remove the Purrple body paint of my costume, but otherwise, I have been paddle surfing, assisting at belly dance class, volunteering at the mewseum, and helping Vonny and Tara-chan at the dock!
When our charters have not been catching the groupurrs, snappurrs, mackerels, tunas & croakers,  we have been volunteering at the food bank and my drumming circle continues to purrcuss
at various events, nya!
Aside from the fishing charters, the boat upkeep, and – and caring for my cats, I have been volunteering at the food bank and – and at the art mewseum, collecting the pony items, and – and taking the nature photos, nya!
We hope to have the nature photo exhibit at the mewseum where are grateful for the artists, friends and patrons of the mewseum! Aside from that I have been baking, gardening, and coaching the beach volleyball camp!
Hai hai, I will second her appurreciation for our county’s art community,, and we also wish to thank the wonderful fans, officials, event staff, our fellow athletes, and the trainees of our island’s beach volleyball league, nya!
The time has flown by like the hypurr speed, because it seems like only yesterday that we had the gala autumnal equinox activities at my magick shop, where we are already purrparing for next month’s Winter Solstice!
Hopefully papa and oji-san will return for the event! I have been busy at my gym and dojo, helping sis at her shop, attending some of the local festivals andsports, and I have still found the time for some of my hobbies!
Lizzy I have stayed purretty busy at our spa, but I have been golfing, gardening and grooming my cats when we have not been at the spa, the late night hot salsa dance, or enjoying our occasional movie marathons!
That purretty much sums it up, and we watched several Christopher Lee movies for our most recent marathon! Otherwise, while Becca is at the golf course, I am our running with my Purrkour Club! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh I totally agree with how fast the year has flown by! Um, well I’ve mainly been busy with my art, writing, gaming, and other good times spent with my family & friends Well, we’ve got a lot on our plate for this month’s Mew, so let’s jump right into

Fun Home!
Hai! We saw the mewsical Fun Home which is based upon the highly critically – acclaimed, best – selling and mucho – award winning 2006 graphic novel memoir by cartoonist Alison Bechdel. who is also known for her her comic strip Dykes to Watch Out for and for the famous Bechdel Test.
Set during Alison’s childhood, college & adult age, Fun Home is a funny & tragic autobiographical dramedy about her path towards coming out as a lesbian, romance in college amidst her parents’ strained marriage. and the relationship with her mean, cheater dad who she learns is bisexual.
I have a copy of the book and its sequel Are You My Mother?! The Fun Home is what Alison and her brothers called the family’s funeral home, which their dad runs in addition to his job as a high school English teacher, but he is more interested in decorating and restoring their old house.
Much of the tale is amidst flashbacks to their home in Pennsylvania, trips with her dad, and time at college, where Alison joyfully falls in love with Joan! With mewsic by Jeanine Tesori, book & lyrics by Lisa Kron, the mewsical was developed at the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in 2012.
it purremiered at The Public Theater in New York in 2013 and won 5 Tony Awards including Best Mewsical in 2015! We rode the ferry from the island to the mainland and caravanned to the Durham Performing Arts Center (or DPAC for short) near the Durham Bulls baseball park!
We saw Spamalot and Sheryl Crow in concert at the DPAC! It is not far from the Carolina Theatre where we saw the movie Once More With Feeling, and the Durham Convention Center where we attend the NC Comicon! Purrior to the show, we ate suppurr at the Tobacco Road restaurant!
The mewsical does not include every chapter of the book, but picked enough repurrsentational scenes with the good balance of comedy & tragedy. The cast included Kate Shindle as adult Alison, Abby Corrigan as college Alison, Alessandra Baldacchino (or Carly Gold at certain performances) as widdle Alison.
Robert Petroff purrtrayed Alison’s dad, Susan Moniz purrtrayed her mom, Karen Eilbacher purrtrayed Joan, Lennon Nate Hammond purrtrayed Alison’s brother John, Pierson Salvador purrtrayed Alison’s brother Christian, and Robert Hager purrtrayed the roles of Roy, Mark, Pete, Bobby and Jeremy!
The orchestra was at the back of the stage, and I loved the way the actors, set pieces and lighting moved to segue from scene to scene! I loved every aspect of Fun Home from the story, direction, choreography, orchestra & acting to the costumes, scenery, lighting, songs & dances!
My favorite songs were “Ring of Keys” and “I’m Changing my Major to Joan”! Beside the stage was an electronic sign which purrvided captions of the dialog & lyrics! We had great seats on the 10th row! The polite, enthused audience applauded after each song and gave the standing ovation at the end!
Fortunately, we did not purrceive anyone talking, texting or recording during the show, and the DPAC staff were very friendly! I will give Fun Home an “A” as in Alison, and I will wish for a mewsical based upon Are You My Mother?! Nyow here is Myayr to begin our
movie & DVD reviews, beginning with Shin Godzilla!
Mary Nyan:
Arigato! We like those Japanese “dai-kaiju” giant monster movies that star Mothra, Gamera, Godzilla and so forth! Just last month we were pleased to review the longly – awaited 1984 The Return of Godzilla DVD! Although we were disappointed by the 2014 American Godzilla movie which we reviewed in out June 2014 Mew, we were excited to hear that this year’s new Japanese Godzilla movie would have the theatrical release here in the US!
Purrior to the screening, at a nearby Japanese restaurant we gratefully dined upon  the miso soup, the Anago Nigiri sushi, and the Katsudon bowls of rice topped with the egg and pork cutlet! I was especially glad that the movie was purrsented in the original Japanese language with English subtitles!  It was written & co-directed by Hideaki Anno, and we like some of his purrior anime works such as Nadia, Gunbuster and the Wings of Honneamise!
He also voiced Jiro who is the main character in The Wind Rises! Shin Godzilla is yet another reboot of the Godzilla series which began back in 1954, and it seems like the most realistic and purrhaps most political one thus far, with the great cast, many supurrb visual FX and high purrduction values! Nyow for the taste of the plot! In contempurrary Tokyo, the giant radioactive monster emerges from the bay to cause much urban destruction.
While the government bureaucracy debates the situation, the monster evolves and grows. While the scientists try to learn more, the Japanese defense forces unsuccessfully try to kill it. The USA is very interested and helps to attack, but this only angers Godzilla to cause more destruction! There are mysteries, conspurracies & international diplomacy during the countdown to use nuclear weapons, unless a better solution can be found quickly!
The designs for Godzilla are among the scariest, with a rather panicked, tragic quality. Of the human characters, I rather liked Yaguchi the cabinet member & Kayoko envoy from the US! I especially liked the plot’s thorough attention to the management of the crisis on different levels; although I wish that as much time was spent on the research, evacuations, casualties, damage control, and counter-measures as was devoted to the political meetings.
Thusly the movie seems too rushed ‘n short, especially the final act and resolution, but I think that Shin Godzilla is a much more poignant, exciting, and smarter movie with purreferable (non-shaky) cinematic techniques than the 2014 American Godzilla movie. That is all for my reviews, and nyow here is Myayr to tell us about the
KISS Rocks Vegas DVD & CD!
Mary Nyan:
I love the hard rock and heavy metal mewsic, and KISS is one of my favorite bands! (She makes the “heavy metal horns” hand gesture and sticks out her long tongue) Nyaaaa! I like to collect the KISS mewsic, memorabilia, books and videos; I have the KIssology DVDs volumes 1-3, the Kiss Symphony DVD, and nyow I am delighted to own the Kiss Rocks Vegas CD & DVD set!
The double gatefold, digipack-like package also includes the 4.75″ x 4.75″ full color 16 page booklet full of photos of the band during a nine show residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in November 2014! The band current consists of Paul Stanley (vocals / rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals / bass), Eric Singer (vocals / drums) &Tommy Thayer (vocals / lead guitar)!
The concert begins with their arrival by the helicopter, and the huge stage is quite dazzling with the lights, lasers, purrotechnics, the hugs KISS logo sign, jumbo video screens, the rising platforms and the overhead catwalks! Not only were they in the make-up and the costumes, but many fans of all ages & genders were in the make-up too, including some catgirls in the enthused audience!
The DVD & mewsic CD have the 88 minute live concert. Spanning the iconic band’s legendary 40 year career, the songs include Detroit Rock City, Creatures of the Night, Psycho Circus, Parasite, War Machine, Tears are Falling, Deuce, Lick it Up, I Love it Loud, Hell or Hallelujah, God of thunder, Do you Love me, Love gun, Black Diamond, Shout it Out Loud, and Rock & Roll All Nte!
Tommy and Gene have solos, Paul & Tommy share a rising platform, Paul zip lines to the catwalk, Eric’s drum kit rises to reveal the tiger banners, Gene spews the blood, breaths the fireball, and flies up to the platform! God Gave Rock and Roll plays during the DVD’s end credits! Also on the DVD is the more intimate 25.5 minute acoustic purrformance for the smaller indoor audience!
That set  sans make-up includes Coming Home, Plater caster, Hard Luck Woman,Christine Sixteen, Goin’ Blind, Love her All i can and Beth! Purrduced by Tommy and released by Eagle Rock Entertainment, the R1 NTSC standard DVD’s video is purrsented in the 16×9 format with the audio options of Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital Surround 5.1, and DTS  Digital Surround 5.5!
I think that it is a wonderful live purrformance of those great songs, with the great enthused energy and the lavishly spectacular show, and I will heartily recommend this CD & DVD set to fellow KISS fans! You know, Kiss also appurred as supurr heroes in their KIss Meets The Phantom movie and in the Marvel comic books, and nyow I will turn The Mew over to Jenjen who wishes to discuss
X-Men: Apocalypse DVD!
Hai. It has been the good year for movies & TV shows based upon the Marvel Comics, such as Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage,  Agent Carter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and for our review of X-Men: Apocalypse, please see our June 2016 Mew.
After the purrolgue in ancient Egypt, the movie is set in 1983, when the supurr villain named Apocalypse recruit followers and threaten the world. The heroic X-Men team tries to stop them, when not also busy fighting against Colonel Stryker’s mewtant hunters. The movie stars
James McAvoy as Xavier, Rose Byrne as Moira, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Phoenix, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Lucas Till as Havok, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler…
Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tomas Lemarquis as Caliban, Lana Condor as Jubilee, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Josh Helman as Stryker, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Carolina Bartczak as Magda, and T.J McGibbon as Nina.
The R1, NTSC standard DVD is the single disk on which the 144 minute, PG-13 movie is purrsented in the widescreen format of the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with optional subtitle choices of English SDH, Spanish, French, English commentary, Spanish commentary & French commentary.
The Dolby Digital audio spoken language choices are English  5.1, the English Descriptive service 5.1, Spanish Surround 2.0, French Surround 2.0; and the fascinating optional audio commentary by the movie’s director / producer Bryan Singer & screenwriter / producer Simon Kinberg.
The commentary is quite fascinatingly entertaining and informative, but alas there are not many other special features on the DVD. It does have the amewsing gag reel which is about 8.25 mirthful minutes, the gallery compurrised of 81 concept art images and 12 photos of the cast.
There are instructions for getting a digital HD version of the movie to stream & download. The instructions mention more special features to stream & download, such as deleted / extended scenes, wrap party video, and “X-Men: Apocalypse Unearthed”, but I wish those were on the DVD.
There were not many special features on the Deadpool or Captain America: Civil War DVDs either, but I think that all of these are X-cellent movies whose DVDs i will happily watch numerous times. That is all for our movie & DVD reviews, but the X-Men topic will continue in
our collectibles & toy talk, with my review of Hasbro’s
X-Men Legends Phoenix, Kitty & Rogue action figures.
In addition to the Marvel movies & TV shows, we like to collect the action figures of inspurrational heroines. Purreviously this year we reviewed recent figures of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen, Silk, Shanna, The Beetle, and nyow I would like to say the few words about the lovely ladies of the latest wave of X-Men figures.
This wave of 8 figures includes Jean Grey – Summers / Phoenix, Rogue, Kitty, Wolverine, IceMan, Havok, Cable & Deadpool. Each is sold sepurrately and includes part of the build – a – Juggernaut figure. For nyow, I will just discuss the figures of Jean, Kitty and Rogue, as I have not yet purrchased the other five.
One of the original members of the X-Men, Jean first appurred in X-Men #1 in 1963. With great psionic mewtant powers, she was originally known as Marvel Girl, but years later she would be known as Phoenix. This figure is of her Phoenix purrsona, in the Green & Gold costume designed by Dave Cockrum.
She is beautifully detailed, from her bright Green eyes and her serious expurression, to her very lithe supple musculature and the knotted sash low upon the hips. Including her lush mane of waist – length Dark Red hair & the .25″ boot heels, the figure is 6.5″ tall, which would make it of appurroximately 1/10th scale.
Her younger friend Katherine “Kitty” Pryde first appurred in Uncanny X-Men #129. Also known as Shadowcat, she has the power to non-corpurreally walk through walls & other solid objects. She is wearing her X-Men uniform compurrised of the Black tights with the Yellow boots, gloves, vest, belt and Red buckle.
She has a very sweet expurression, Brown hair in a ponytail, a souvenir Magneto helmet, and is accompanied by her widdle Purrple dragon friend Lockheed, who first appurred in Uncanny X-Men #166. Lockheed is about 1″ at the withers, with nicely sculpted wings & tail, and likes to purrch upon Kitty’s shoulders.
Lastly but not leaslty there is Rogue, who first appurred in Avengers Annual #10 in 1981. She has the power to absorb other folks’ powers, abilities & memories. Initially she was a villanous member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, but she later repentently joined the X-Men as a heroine needing a new good home.
She is X-cellently painted & sculpted in the Yellow & Green tights, Yellow gloves & boots, tied Green headband, short Brown jacket & belt  to match her hair which has the White stripe. An optional ungloved hand is included. The figures are highly posable, with articulation in the neck, abs, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees & ankles. Nyow here is Ilyana again to discuss the
Marvel Legends Nico Minoru action figure.
Hai! I am purrticularly fond of magickal heroines such as Nico Minoru, also known as Sister Grimm! Created by author Brian K. Vaughan & artist Adrian Alphona, Nico the gothy Japanese-American witch and leader of The Runaways team of supurr heroes who are the estranged children of villains!
This figure of her is among Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Mystical Rivals wave, which also includes The Enchantress, Iron Fist, Karl Mordo, Brother Voodoo, Dr. Strange, Dr. Strange (astral form) and Dr. Strange (movie version). Each is sold sepurrately and includes part of a  build – a – Dormamu figure!
From the top of her raised ponytail to the bottom of her boot soles, the figure is appurroximately 6″ tall. She is quite lovely and meticulously detailed from her Red eyes & mischievous expurression, to the seams & clasps of her corset, the pleats of her skirt, and the strappy buckles of her boots!
The paint is very smooth and intricate, from her smooth pale skin tone, the minute lacy detail of her sheer Purrple short sleeves, and the wide Black & Lavender stripes of her thigh – highs that match the skirt. Her hair, eye liner, lip gloss, corset, opurra – length gloves, skirt, panty and boots are Black!
Also included are her 3 3/8″ long, amber – colored staff with the twining, wispy, translucent magenta energy detail, and a variant arm of the same opacity and color. The figure can stand unassisted, and the articulation is in her neck, abs, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees and ankles!.
We give those Nico, Kitty, Jean and Rogue action figures the high purraise, and we have found the good spot  for them upon the shelves beside our other Marvel-ous figures! That is all for my two reviews, but nyow here is Nya-sensei to continue collectibles and toy talk, with her review of the
Star Wars: Rebels Sabine Wren action figure!
Arigato! We love the animated Star Wars Rebels series, so I was pleased to find Hasbro’s new 3 5/8″ tall figure of Sabine Wren. She is a Madolorean warrior, a rebel against the empire, one of the heroic crew of The Ghost, a sappurr and graffiti artist! For our review of the Star Wars: Rebels Complete Season 2 DVD, please see last month’s Mew!
If she was flat footed without the boot heels, the figure would be 3.5″ tall, and since the character is supposedly Sabine is 1.7 meters tall or 5 ‘7″, then I guess this figure is of the 1/20 scale. This new Sabine figure is similar to the prior 2015 figure of her that was packaged with a stormtroopurr, but the sculpted details and painted colors are different.
The big differences are that her left arm is bent at the elbow, and that her helmet is redecorated and is now a separate piece, whereas the prior figure’s helmet was not removable, so now we can see her face and gradient Blue coiffure. Thus she can be posed with her left arm raised to cradle the removed helmet.
There are added details to the belt, boots & emblems, she has Gray instead of tan pant, Silvery instead of Black pistols, and the long instead of the short sleeves. Another new accessory is the zip line glove which can snap on to her right forearm, which has the pulley with the hook at the end of the 16.25″ cord.
Also enclosed in the package are the sheet of the instructions for downloading Hasbro’s Star Wars StudioFX app to certain devices to make videos of the figures, but I have not yet tried to use that. The figure’s articulation is only in the neck, shoulders & hips, but she is well – balanced enough to stand unassisted!
I think that it is beautifully designed, sculpted & painted action figure with good details, and I am especially glad that the helmet is removable. I have found the good spot for her on the shelf beside  the figures of her friends Hera and Ahsoka! Nextly I would like to discuss the Star Wars: The Black Series
Sergeant Jyn Erso action figure!
Hai! Sgt. Jyn Erso is another rebel against the empire, who is portrayed by Felicity Jones in the forthcoming movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! As #22 in Hasbro’s Black series of 1/12th scale action figures, she is similar in size to the 6″ Star Wars Rebels Ahsoka Tano figure which we reviewed in the May 2016 Mew!
This 5.5″ tall figure is packaged in the 9x6x2″ Black box and she is well – balanced enough to stand unassisted. The first thing that caught my attention was how beautiful her portraiture is. The design, the sculpt and the paint seem quite meticulous, and I think that this figure has the great resemblance to the actress!
I am also impurressed with the very intricate detail of her layered Jedha attire, from the Black jumpsuit, Gray shirt and Greenish Gray jacket, to the Brown vest, boots, belt, holster, fingerless gloves, the removable Light Gray hood cowl, and the removable Black & Silvery Luger-like pistol. Her right is poised to pull the trigger!
The details of her clothing are minutely detailed, down to the pockets, seams, rivets, zippurrs, clips, snaps, straps, buckles, the quilting upon the back of the vest, the stripes upon the sleeves of the jacket, and the clever way that the joints are concealed within the intricately sculpted fabric folds folds, creases and drapurry.
She is very posable, with articulation in her neck, abs, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees & ankles. I like the figure’s ball joints which offer the great range of positions. I am very pleased with this figure of Jyn, and I have found the good spot for her on the shelf beside Ahsoka and Rey! Nyow here is Lizzy to tell us about the
Hallmark Keepsake Batman Classic TV Series Catwoman ornament!
Hai! DC Comics’ Selina Kyle alias the Catwoman is one of our favoritest characters of the comics, movies, games and TV shows! We have collected several figures and statues of her, so we were quite eager to find Hallmark’s 2016 Christmas tree ornament which is based upon the 1966 Batman TV series version of her!
It nicely resembles Julie Newmar, who was among the actresses to purrtray her in that era! Her incarnation of Selina often to kill Batman, but she struggled with the romantic attraction, whereas Lee Meriwether’s (movie) incarnation seemed more spiteful with duplicity, and Ertha Kitt’s incarnation seemed far more feline!
This purrticular ornament was among those released as purrt of Hallmark’s Keepsake Ornament Debut on the Sunny clear, warm Saturday of October 1st. There was a short line of enthused chatty customers waiting outside before the nearest Hallmark store opened, for the ornaments & other items of limited quantities!
The ornament is about 4 5/8″ tall, including her boot heels & neko ear pinna, but excluding the metal hanger on top. A hook is not included. Meticulously sculpted by Kristin Gaughran, Selina looks pleased with the diamond that she is holding! If the diamond was full size, it would be almost as big as a tennis ball!
She is glamorously gorgeous with the lithe statuesque physique, long lush Brown hair, and the glossy Black tights with the boots, gloves, mask & ears, accessorized by the Gold pendant and the belt which is low upon the hips! If she was standing flat-footed out of the costume, the ornament would be about 4.25″ tall.
I assume that it is close to 1/16th scale, because I read that Julie Newmar is 5′ 11″ tall!  We have not yet decorated for Christmas, so for now I have displayed the ornament beside other Catwoman figures upon the table! That is all for our reviews of toys and collectibles, and nyow Becca and I will purrsent this month’s
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
In his portion of The Mew, we wish to honor famous catgirls from of the various media such as stage, cinema, television, internet, games, toys, novels and comics. Our broadly – inclusive criteria ranges from ailuranthropes & anthropurrmorphic feline females, to those who may not have any kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude in spurrit or style for to be considered as “honorary catgirls”!
This month’s spotlight shines upon yet another clowder of catgirls and kemonomimi of mnga, comic books & web comics, and the very talented folks who beautifully create them! Some of those tales and images might be tame for readers of all ages, whereas some of the tales might be mature and thusly not intended for widdle kitties, but I purromise to avoid any lurid descriptions!
Collateral Damage Studios’s Mon Girl comics star lovely kemonomimi characters of various species including chibi styles, such as Eroko the petite, fair-skinned catgirl with the purretty Green ears, hair and tail! Other delightfully lovely characters include Nora the bunny girl, Louisa the cow girl, the bat girl sisters Eli and Ella, and the various other fox girls, wolf girls, slime girls and mermaids!
Richard Moore’s anthropurrmorphic, kemonomimi & fantasy comics include Boneyard, Far West, Dejua Vu, tales and pin-ups for issues of Genus, A-Bomb, Hit the Beach and Milk! Some of his catgirls are lovely striped & spotted Peej of his “Dogs” tale, and voluptuous, tough Kat of “The Pound”! I am also purrticularly fond of Far West’s Meg the bounty huntress elf and Boneyard’s Abbey the vampire!
Joshua Lohr is a manga & anime inspired artist who has created delightful kemonomimi characters of many colors for his comics & illustrations! They include Terra the raven-haired catgirl, her younger sister Fiona, Brown-haired Joslyn, Ginger-haired Molly, Blonde-haired Keyona, Platinum-haired Angel, Blue-haired Janice, her mom Queen Laura, Amelia with the Golden tail, and Rei with the Purrple bunny ears!
Nextly I would like to purraise the fabulously frisky feline female fatales of Metrobay Comics! Clad in (and sometimes bereft of) sexy costumes, they are supurr heroines and villainesses who get into cat fights, naughty & purrilous situations! They include Snow Leopard, Calico Cougar, Calico Kitty, Copy Cat, Felina and the Action Cats team of Pink Pussycat, Kitten Sphynx and Clawdette!
Political Ideology Catgirls by Catgirl Drawgirl is a peppy, purretty, whimsical, long-form web comic of the political satire, in which catgirls purrsonify the ideologies such as Alt-Right, Alunya, Anarchism, Berniecrat, Democratic, Facism, Libertarianism, Neo Liberalism, Nihilism, Religeous Right, Rodina, Traditional Marxism and other characters! Take it, Becca!
Hai! I would like also to mention Hina and Alison of the The Other Side of Secret, a dark urban fantasy manga by Hideaki Yoshikawa! Alison the scared widdle tuxedo kitten and her owner Yuuto the high school student meet sisters Saaya & Hina who explore a scary deadly dimension.
Hina is a joyful, petite, Lavender – haired girl with a cat – eared hat, who has a psychic connection with Alison during the quite horrifically tragic expurrdition, but I should not reveal much more of the plot! That is almost all for our spotlight, but for an added treat, we have the surpurrise bit of
Bonus Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
For this bonus, we will shine the spotlight upon three widdle recently televised kitty girls! In one of Halloween 2016 commercials for the Party City stores, a girl’s regular clothes are transformed into the catgirl costume compurrised of the leopurrd purrint nekomimi hoody with the Black skirt, tail and boots!
We have purreviously mentioned the TV spot for CoverGirl Cosmetics’ Katy Kat Collection, and the CoverGirl “Draw Attention” TV spot for the Smoky Kitten Eye Effect, but more recently we have noticed the spot for L’oreal’s Feline Noir mascara for the wild cat’s eye look of the more voluminous lashes!
Lastly but not leastly, in this season’s Ink Master: Peck vs Nunez TV series, artist Gia Rose’s tattoo of the sexy pin-up catgirl in the tight Black dress and Purrple hose did sadly not advance her to the top ten, but purrhaps artist Kelly Dota’s purretty leopurrd purrint top brought her the better luck in the compurrtition! That is all for this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, and nyow I will begin our
comic book reports, with my review of
the Street Fighter Swimsuit Special #1!
Udon Entertainment publishes beautiful, thrilling comics & graphic novels starring the characters of Capcom’s Street Fighter video games, so I was eager to get this full color collection of gorgeous sexy characters illustrated by various artists! Purriced $3.99, its 32 pages are compurrised of 18 full page pics, 2 two-page spurreads, 3 illustrated credits pages, 5 ads and the covers!
It is available in the choice of the 3 different covers! I chose Cover A which depicts Laura in the Green bikini wetly arcing with energy, illustrated by Ecchi-Star!, who also contributed the illustration of Poison with the beverage, baseball cap and handcuffs to accessorize her slingshot maillot and tight shorty shorts! There are a few other great images of Laura in the issue…
… such as Vincenzo Cucca’s pic of her in the Green & Yellow bikini rising from the pool and Derek Laufman’s pic of her and Mokoto at the tiki bar! Back to the different covers,  Cover B by Aki Li depicts Cammy, Mokoto & ibuki savoring the fresh fruit upon the beach, and Cover C by Nei Fuffino depicts Chun-Li in the Blue & Yellow maillot! There are several more pics of Chun Li…
… such as Rob Porter’s pic of her in the Blue & Yellow bikini in a skate park, and Chamba’s cute chibi style pic of her on the back cover! Chamba also contributed the pic of Rainbow Mika looking sexy but distraught in her Blue thong bikini! Cammy leaps to spike the beach volleyball in a pic by John Crayton, and trots into the shoreline shallows with Juli & Juni in a pic by Long Vo!
On the credits pages are front & back views of bikini-clad Cammy on the beach towel by Arnold Tsang; and the pic of Juli & Juni in Black maillots on the beach towel by Nokman Poon, who also contributed the pic of Ibuki in a Magenta bikini with a fox and a popsicle in a sail boat! Cammy & Deacpre are also the focus of a lavish two-page group scene by Jean-Baptiste Nanteau!
Another two-page spurread depicts about 3 dozen characters at the beach, drawn by Dax Gordine and colored by Josh perez, who also colored Steve Cummings’s pic of Sakura in the ruffled bikini as she mischieviously buries a sleeping E. Honda in the sand! A ruffled bikini is also worn by Ingrid, who so peppily poses for a selfie photo in a great illustration by Genzoman!
Red is the bikini color for Rose who purrches upon the lifeguard tower in a pic by Hanzo Steinbach, and the color for Maki who merrily rides the aerial water jet in a pic by Giselle Lagace who recently drew the Archie Meets The Ramones comic book! You know, our web master Jamie did a few guest strips several years ago for Giselle’s web comic Cool Cat Studios… but I digress!
Other images of athletes in alluring attire include Xa’s pic of Juri in the Mauve bikini with fresh fruit in the shade; Brendon Tapper’s pic of Crimson Viper scuba diving amidst the delicious fish of the reef; Edwin Huang’s pic of Karin surrounded by several suitors offering her drinks & lotion; and Dandon Fuga’s very sultry pic of Elena in the White bikini that matches her purrt short hair!
She has such tight hard abs! There more tight abs in Oskar Vega’s image of Ryu wearing sheer briefs in the hot spurring, and his image of Vega wearing the mask & speedo on the beach! This is a great issue brimming with lovely illustrations of the streetfighters amidst the whimsically sexy, sporty ambience! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Tara-chan who wants to tell us about
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #46 & 47!
Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony TV series, movies, toys, cards and – and comic books, nya! Gosh, it is hard to believe that has been almost the 4 years since IDW began to publish them, nya. Issue #46 is purriced at $3.99, with the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 12 pages of ads, nya. I wish all other comics have the ads after the tales, nya!
This issue has the 1st purrt of the tale of the mayoral election in Ponyville, with the town politically polarized as the expurrienced female incumbent politician Mayor Mare runs against the much wealthy male newbie candidate Filthy Rich, nya! Hmm, that kinda sounds like familiar situation, but we do not tend to discuss the politics here at The Mew, nya!
The tale was written by Ted Anderson illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, assistantly colored by Lauren Perry, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and published by IDW’s CEO Ted Adams, with the Regular cover art by Agnes, the subscription cover art by Sara Richard and – and the retailer incentive cover art by Caitlin Vilbrandt, nya!
I have to say that Agnes is one of my favorite artists, because of the purretty, playful style in which she renders the pony poses, expurressions, panels and- and colors, nya! Issue #47 concludes the tale; it has the same purrice, the same number of pages, and – and almost the same credits, except that the retailer incentive cover art is by Lupi McGinty, nya!
In Part 1, the political challenge starts right after mayor Mare dedicates the new hilltop playground which very mysteriously collapses, nya! While the cause and – and the blame are pondered, Filthy Rich sees this as the oppurrtunity for the local governmental change, nya. Thusly he begins the campaigning, with many big purromises to the voters, nya!
In Part 2, while the mysterious collapses continue to cause the purropurrty damages, the mayor’s campaign purromises purrove to be expensive, inconvenient, or unkept, nya! Fluttershy is displeased by the invasive construction of the sports stadium near her home, whilst Rarity is angered by the extremely higher taxes upon her boutique, nya!
Granny Smith is is irate about how the playground collapsed upon the land her family donated to Ponyville, but things worse when the replacement playground falls apurrt due to the shoddy cheap construction, nya! The look upon Apple Bloom’s fed up face is purriceless, and- and the mane six ponies beg Mayor Mare to return from her fishing trip, nya!
I do not know if she caught any fish, but Filthy Rich certainly gets grilled like one at the town meeting, which is interrupted by the culpurrit who has caused the collapses, but I should not further spoil the taste of the plot, nya! I think that the tale is quite exciting and – and beautifully rendered with the great poses, expurressions, scenery and- and fonts, nya!
The cast includes Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Spike, Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, Muffin, Time Turner, Cheerilee, Granny Smith, Lyra Heartstrings, Mayor Mare, Filthy Rich, Spoiled Rich, Diamond Tiara, Starlight Glimmer, Angel, Opal, and – and the various background ponies to identify, nya!
It was so nice to see Starlight Glimmer, who was a major character in the 5th season of the TV series, nya! I will give both of those issues the high grade of an “A” as in Agnes and in my anticipation for the next issues of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and – and My Little Pony: Friends Forever, nya! I am done, so nyow here is Trini-chan to discuss
Patsy Walker, A.K.A. HellCat! #11, nya!
Patsy is one of our favorite heroines and her current series is our favorite Marvel Comic of the past year! After she lost her home & job at Jennifer (She Hulk) Walters’s law firm, she decided to start a temp agency and became roommates with Ian who shops at her friend Tom’s bookstore which sells the Patsy Walker comics that were authored by her estranged mom.
Patsy did not get any money from those books, until Jennifer Walters and Jessica Jones helped against her rival Hedy who had purrocured the rights! Jennifer & Patsy may have won that feud, but unfortunately Jennifer is in a coma after a Civil War II battle, so it is the sad time fat Patsy’s business, but her mewtant vampire friend Jubilee is there to help at the office!
Patsy, Jubilee, Ian, Tom & Sharon the landlord tried to have the fun night at the karaoke bar, until they were attacked by Patsy’s ex-husbands Damion Hellstrom, a.k.a The Son of Satan and Buzz Baxter, a.k.a. Mad Dog, who believed the lies told to them by Hedy. Damian temporarily banished Patsy to a Hell dimension, whilst things got romantic betwixt Tom & Ian!
They are unaware that Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. The Black Cat has been spying upon them, which brings us up to issue #11! It is compurrised of the 21 page tale plus 6 pages of ads plus 1 page of comments & fans’ photos! It was written by Kate Leth, illustrated by Brittney, lettered by Clayton Cowles, colored by Rachelle Rosenberg and edited by Jake Thomas!
It was assistantly edited by Kathleen Wisneski, and it is available in the choice of three different covers! The main cover’s art by Brittney is graced by Patsy, Felicia, Sharon and Jubilee; the cosplay variant cover stars DJ Spider photographed by Judith Stephens; and the variant cover is by Tod Nauck, Frank D’Armata, Matthew Wilson and our friend Sandy Jarrell!
At Patsy’s office, Ian minds Jubilee’s widdle son Shogo while she and Patsy train Bailey the repentant supurr criminal how to fight without her magickal bag of tricks They wear cute outfits for the training, such as Patsy’s tank top with the kitty emblem, Bailey’s Blue crop top with Purple stars, and Jubilee’s ripped – sleeve Yellow top! Bailey has been pondering some new names & costumes!
Later at Patsy & Ian’s apartment, they are having the chat about various emotional concerns when his jealous ex – room mate arrives, and it is Zoe with her friend Jin of the Black Cat gang! Felicia has hired them to stalk Patsy! Meanwhile, she and other gang members Lina & Ari have broken into Patsy’s office, where they catch Bailey and steal her magick bag!
This series continues to be so much fun with the superb action, humor, drama and charming slice of life moments peppered by the kitty motifs for the wonderful characters who have the progressive attitudes and snappy dialog! They are beautifully rendered with great poses, expurressions, and the occasional chibi-style for the cute comedic quality & genki spirit!
That spirit continues into the page Kate’s replies to the fan’s comments & photos! The fans like to send photos of their pets and Patsy items! I will give this great issue an “A” as in Patsy’s pegasus friend Aragorn, and as in my anxious anticipation for the next issue! Now I would like to praise another comic book which is exquisitely illustrated by Brittney–
Goldie Vance #6!
16 year old Marigold “Goldie” Vance is the peppy, brave, smart, inquisitive, aspiring detective girl of color in the mid 1960’s who assists Walter the detective at the Crossed Palms Resort in St. Pascal Florida, when she is not valet parking the lodgers’ cars with her friend Rob, who wants to date Cheryl the resort’s concierge who aspires to be an astronaut!
Goldie’s mom is a mermaid performer at a club, and is sepurrated from Goldie’s dad who is the manager for resort’s owner Mr. Maple, whose daughter Sugar dislikes Goldie. Other great characters include Goldie’s friend Diane works at the record store, and Skunk the street racer! Initially a 4 issue mini – series, this ongoing series is published by Boom! Box!
Issue #6 is priced at $3.99 and its 28 pages include the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by the 6 pages of ads. It was written by Hope Larson, illustrated by Britney Williams, colored by Sarah Stern, lettered by Jim Campbell, edited by Dafna Plebon & Shannon Watters, with the issue’s design by Jillian Crab!
Brittney also illustrated the wraparound cover which depicts Goldie, Walter & Millie the mysterious, amnesiac astronaut who they met in issue #5! In that issue, amidst a rather stressful time for their friendship, Goldie and Cheryl found Millie unconscious on the beach, thus attracting the interest of NASA and FBI Agent Ladner who used to be Walter’s girlfriend!
While Goldie sought relationship advice from Diane, Cheryl unexpectedly drove away with Millie! That brings us up to issue #6, in which Goldie and Walter investigate Cheryl’s behavior and Millie’s identity. They chat with Cheryl’s mom and Rob to learn that Cheryl has entered a beauty pageant, which Goldie infiltrates after a getting the make-over by Diane!
Diane stays up all night to alter her old prom dress to fit Goldie. During an amusing pageant dressing room incident, they learn that Cheryl and Millie are both prurrior pageant winners, and that Millie’s mom is a famous fashion designer who gets flirtatious with Walter while Goldie searches for more clues at the boutique, but I will not further spoil the plot!
I love the dialog, expressions, poses, fashions, coiffures & cars amidst the early 60’s space race & coastal locations of the superbly written & illustrated tale! I especially like the look on Goldie’s face as she bikes into Walter’s house, teases him about Ladner, slurrps Rob’s milkshake, learns of the pageant, decides to infiltrate the pageant, and wears the dress!
We will continue to give Goldie Vance an “A” as in astronaut and as in our anticipation for the the next issue! By the way, the first 4 issues have been collected into a trade paperback book, so it is not only very pretty and fun, but it is also a fairly affordable and accessible tale. That is all for my comic book reports, and nyow here is Nyo-sensei to tell us about
Die Kitty Die #1!
Hai! Die Kitty Die is a whimsically sexy supurrnatural tale published by Chapter House and intended for the Teen readers, starring Kitty the famous celebrity witch who wrote her own magick books, and has starred in her own comic books of the teen romantic comedy genre since the 1950’s! They used to sell millions of monthly copies and spawned TV shows, cartoons & toys, but these days her comics are no longer best sellers.
According to the tale, Kitty went to the witch academy, and lives in a spooky mansion called Ravencraft Manor which is afforded by the comics sales. She has Red hair, fair skin, Green eyes, a star shaped birthmark on her right cheek, many purretty clothes, lingerie and the feline intuition! Not only is her name Kitty, but she can transform into a Red cat to curl up for the nap, and there a couple of catgirlish images of her in the issue!
The story and art is by Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent was inked by Rich Koslowski and J. Bone, colored by Glenn Whitmore, and lettered by Janice Chiang with additional art by Gisele Lagace, J, Bone, and Bill Golliher. Gisele recently drew the Archie Meets The Ramones comic book! Our web master Jamie did a few guest strips several years ago for Giselle’s web comic Cool Cat Studio, but I have stray catted off the topic!
Chapter House also publishes the thrilling Captain Canuck comics! We are fans of Dan’s great Archie comics stories and art and we have met him at a few conventions, so I was eager to purrchase this 1st issue! The 32 page, $3.99 issue includes the credits page, purrecursory 50’s style tale which is followed by the maine contempurrary tale, plus the centerspurread, the 2 pages of variant cover art, and the 6 pages of the ads.
In the 50’s tale, against her Aunt Edna’s warnings, Kitty goes on the date with mortal guy Augie, who is a stupid misogynist jerk who schemes and grabs for her boobies, but she evades his lecherous grasp and casts a very appurropurriate spell on him so that he hopefully learns the valuable lesson! Unfortunately after reading that old tale in a comic book store, the real Kitty winds up in a similar situation with a rude guy!
Not only is Rudy insufficiently grateful after she buys everyone lunch, but he magickally vanishes her clothes, so she turns him into a toad. Several creatures lurk about the store and the mansion, including Dippy the kid ghost, who also used to be a big star. Kitty fears that her comics might be cancelled due to poor sales, which means she might lose her income and thusly her home, but she
also worries of more sinister incidents!
Those might include naughty ideas or publicity stunts that she suspects the publisher might devise to increase sales; but it is worse than that, because they plan to assassinate Kitty, in hopes that the celebrity murder would generate much publicity, and that purrofits that would no longer have to be split with her! Later that evening she goes home and while undressing she is pounced upon by the hired hit ghost in the cliffhanger!
This frisky fun tale was beautifully illustrated and cleverly brimming with satirical homages & purrodies of Archie, Harvey, Marvel & DC. There are  lovely fashions for Kitty and her friend Mara, and I purrticularly like the Kitty’s Katwalk center spurread in which she models the different outfits, such as the cute capurri pants & turtleneck sweater with penny loafers, cat ears & tail! I am SO  looking forward to the next issue! Nextly I will discuss
Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #100!
Tarot is the bimonthly fantasy adventure comic book published by Broadsword Comics intended for the mature readers, starring Tarot the warrior witch who is the goddess’s sword maiden! It is the thrilling & beautifully rendered series of thrilling adventures, lavish ornate detail, but is not for the widdle kitties or the purrudish folks, due to the nudity, sexuality, violence, gore, some darkly occult stuff, and some harsh language!
Jim Balent is the creator, writer, artist, publisher and purresident of Broadsword Comics, and his wife Holly is the vice purresident, colorist, letterer, purrduction purriestess and occasional cover model who also creates the delightful supurrnatural web comic School Bites! This 32 page, $2.95 issue was edited by Neil Morris, with the colors flattened by Randi Leeann for the uninterrupted 22 page tale of “Which Witch Bride”!
The tale is followed by the 10 pages of the bonus features and the one advertisement! The issue is available in the choice of the six different covers, including the nude skyclad version, the limited studio edition, and the limited photo cover of Holly wearing just the veil and the gloves! Purreviously in Tarot, she was captured again, this time by the coven that wants to purrvent her marriage to Jon the heroic Graveyard Guardian!
Whilst weakened Tarot is impurrisoned in the dungeon where they feed her icky wormy food, an evil doppelganger impurrsonates her in the sexy White gown at Black Rose Manor, where Tarot’s sister Raven Hex, their mom and Jon are purrparing for the sacred dusktime ceremony! However, all is not content at the manor, because Jon’s ghost dog Wraith did not purrvent Tarot’s winged goblin cat Pooka from ruining his tux!
Meanwhile, their friend Lord Splitfoot rescues Tarot, who nyow has to wear her armor & sword to the wedding, but the enemies have placed the magickal spell upon those items, which conjurs the seductive illusion of Tarot’s cat girlfriend Boo Cat  to further delay her! As if that were not enough, she also has to get past the her angry enemy the Dragon Witch, whilst the doppelganger attacks her mom, sister and Jon at the alter!
Appurring in the framing sequence are deities The Lady of the Stars and Twilight Mystery, and The Lord of Shades and Golden Sunset! It is so nice that the tale is uninterrupted! As mewsual, the art is gorgeous with sumptuous colors that are so smoothly shaded with luminous lighting FX, very intricate details, sexy bodies, erotic moments, very ornate fonts, and the many large panels, including several half & full – page panels!
The bonuses include Jim’s cordially grateful message; his photo of Holly wearing just socks & shoes with the light saber; a photo collage of them at the San Diego Comicon; the photo page of fans’ Tarot tattoos; Holly’s amewsing 3 page Teen Tarot tale starring the younger Tarot, Raven & Pooka; and her Life with Prince Pangur Pan the Fluffy comic strip! The last page advertises Holly, Jim & Broadsword Comics’s sites & social media.
I like how the pages are effectively maximized, because the inside front cover has the credits, publishing information & more photos; the inside back cover is the gallery of the issue’s covers, and the outside back cover is the purreview for the next issue! I was very pleased with this special 100th issue, for which we wish to congratulate Holly, Jim, Randi and Neil! I am done, and nyow here is Mike to tell us about Dark Horse Comics’s
Elfquest: The Final Quest #16
(with a plot spoiler warning in effect!)
Thank you, Nyo-sensei! Well, I’ve been a fan of Wendy & Richard Pini’s Elfquest since the late 70’s, and Wendy is one of my favorite artists, from Elfquest and other comics, to her magazine covers and Elric project! For the past 3 years, The Final Quest has been a captivating, beautiful treat, full of major developments for the great characters and mythology!
It’s been ta very  tumultuous time of cultural change due to an evil military onslaught against humans and elves, and a time of metaphysical transformations due to the psychic affects of an ancient crystalline palace. There has been a lot of tragedy, romance, reunions and separations along the way, with some startling revelations about the elves’ origins!
Those recent revelations by Timmain, (the majestic eldest elf) were ttoo mind blowing for Cutter (the Wolfrider tribe’s chief), who went temporarily mad and ran off into the forest where he met a mysterious tribe of plant elves. Meanwhile, his former rival Rayek struck back at the human armada which has attacked the Wavedancers tribe of aquatic elves.
Unfortunately, some dissent and emotional rifts have occurred amongst the elf tribes; some of the Wolfriders and Sun Folk wish to fly off to the stars in the palace, whilst some of the Go-Backs want to attack the warmongering humans. That brings us to issue #16, although it might be considered the 17th issue, if you include the precursory 2013 Special!
It has the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by 2 pages of comments and 6 pages of art. It was written by Wendy & Richard, scripted & illustrated by Wendy, colored by Sonny Strait, lettered by Nate Piekos and edited by Spencer Cushing. Kevin Burkhalter is the assistant editor, Sarah Terry is the graphic designer, and Allyson Haller is the digital technician!
Ekuar, Petalwing and Two-Edge unsuccessfully try to purrvent Rayek from attacking the humans’ navy again, but his enraged state has allowed his wicked mother Winnowil’s spirit to possess his mind, and thus fuel his desire to cause more death and destruction to the enemies. Rayek is severely injured when he tries to protect Korafay, who has tried to dissuade him from the violence.
Helping the WaveDancers to heal Rayek is a ship’s surgeon, who was thrown overboard as the surviving ships continued on course. At the palace, Savah, Sunstream and Auroree observe Rayek’s daughter Venka trying to calm the members of her arctic tribe, who want to join the fight. Timmain, declares that whatever they do, she wants their negative vibes out of the harmonious palace.
In the unexplored depths of the vast forest, Cutter has regained his senses after being rescued by Leetah, Nightfall, Skywise, Redlance and Dree-Ahn. They have communed with the plant-like elves, who they learn were Timmain’s colleagues many millennia ago. Also appearing are Murff, Reef, Brill, Skimback, Longfin, Spray, Timmorn Yellow-Eyes, various Preservers and wolves!
There is a lot of drama, action, spirituality, bloody combat, tragedy, and a great deal of irony too especially in a family feud as Two-Edge is harmed Rayek who is possessed by Winnowil who is in turn astrally defeated by Reef. Rayek then vows to rescue one of the very humans that he wanted to kill at sea, while sadly back on land his friendship with Ekuar may have just ended.
Furthermore, for a long time Cutter has been trying to unite all of the world’s elf tribes, yet since regaining his wits after Timmain’s revelations, he decides that the plant elves are best left alone in secrecy. Also, for years until now it’s seemed that Cutter had more in common with his feisty daughter Ember, but lately he’s been showing a psionic side more like his son Sunstream!
As usual the characters, critters, FX and scenery of the palace, ships, forest and sea are just so magnificently rendered with such lush color and lavish detail! Elquest is nearing its 40th anniversary, but for me it never gets old nor ceases to surprise and amaze me. I will give this issue an “A” as in Auroree, and now I’ll turn The Mew over to Vonny again, who wants to tell us about
Hero Cats #13!
Arigato, nya! The Hero Cats are among the purrotectors of their home town of Stellar City, and the team is compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Rocket the Tabby, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat and her brother Bandit the tuxedo cat who is on a sepurrate mission while the other cats have been on the adventurous travels, nya!

We have met some of them at the Heroes Conventions too, nya!
The cats convene on Halloween night to hear Cassiopeia’s apocalyptic tale which stars them as the main characters, nya! Galaxy Man’s housekeepurr serves Belle the evil witch who purrtends to give Ace the love potion to use on Cassiopeia, but it is actually the deadly potion, nya! He leaves the potion at Cassiopeia’s house, where Midnight the vampire has fanged Cosmic Girl, nya!
She chases Ace, who sees Galaxy Man fight Rocket the alien robot whose flying saucer brings Rocco the giant zilla monster to destroy the city, nya! Sadly, the potion turned Cassiopeia into the zombie who leads more zombies through the ruins after Ace who becomes the lonely last cat on Earth, nya! It is the nihilistic scenario, but it is just the imaginary scary tale for Halloween, nya!
The macabrely thrilling plot at the purrfect pace has delightful dialogue for the mix of scares, sadness and combat. in which the characters, FX, scenery, and the fonts are exquisitely rendered, nya! After the 2 pages of great bonus art by Orlando Baez are the 4 pages of ads, and I will give this issue an “A” as in Ace, nya! That is all of our comic book reports, but nyow I will begin our
book & calendar reviews, with my review
of the new Star Wars: Ahsoka novel, nya!
Here at The Mew, we voted for Ahsoka Tano as our favoritest Star Wars character, nya! She has been a feisty Jedi Knight, rebel leader, and the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker before he became Darth Vader, nya! Voiced by Ashley Eckstein, she first appurred in the animated theatrical Clone Wars movie and the Clone Wars TV series which occur betwixt Epurrsodes II & III, nya!
Then she appurred more recently in the Rebels TV series which occurs betwixt Epurrsodes III & IV, nya. Tara-chan cosplayed as her for Halloween the few years ago, nya! We like to collect Ahsoka items too, so I was eager to get this 356 page hardcover novel, which was written by E.K, Johnston and published last month by the Disney Book Group’s Disney • Lucasfilm Press impurrint, nya!
It is purriced $17.99 in the US, $18.99 in Canada, and the jacket has the gorgeous illustration of her by Wojtek Fus, nya! This is the tale of what Ahsoka was up to betwixt the end of Clone Wars and the start of Rebels, nya! After her betrayal by the Jedi who were later hunted amidst the rise of the empire, she decided to lay low on the outer rim worlds where told folks her name was Ashla, nya.
This was not only for her own safety, but for the safety of her friends, nya. However, just as she would try start to settle into the more quiet peaceful purrivate life with the new homes and friends such as the Fardis family of the planet Thabeska, sisters Miara and Kaeden and the farmers of the moon Raada, inevitably the Imperial troops would arrive and start to oppurress the people there, nya!
Not only are the imperial officers, the force – hunting inquisitors and the Black Sun crime syndicate looking for Ahsoka, but so are the rebels, including old friends such as Bail Organa and R2-D2, nya! There are new friends whom I hope we will meet again, and there are several flashback scenes involving Anakin, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul and Rex, but I should not spoil more of the plot, nya!
I will just add that we get to see the very clever, resourceful Togrutan girl use her many skills, expurriences and powers for the heroic purrposes, with the snappy dialogue, the thorough character studies, and very vivid descriptions in the captivating, briskly paced plot, which I will give an “A” as in Ahsoka, nya! That is all for my reviews, and nyow here is Bunnibun to tell us about the
2017 Art of Rebecca Brogden 2017 Calendar, nya!
Hai, our friend Rebecca Brogden, is a great artist who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew! Perhaps y’all have seen her beautiful works of art in our mewseum? We are fortunate to have many of her original illustrations, prints & calendars! Published through Red Bubble, the wire-bound calendar for 2017 is her 7th calendar!
It is 16 7/8″ tall by 10 7/8″ wide, which is about twice the size of her 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 & 2015 calendars that were available from Zazzle or DeviantArt. I think that this size is especially nice for the images of the verticall / portrait orientation, and it opens to 33 7/8″ x 10 7/8″ size to hang upon the wall! The calendar’s 12 images were created in 2015 and 2016!
Rebecca used various media to render the illustrations of fantasy female characters, such as traditional media of pens & copic markers; and digital media of Sai, Photoshop CS6 & Intuos 5 tablet! January’s “Moon Maiden” is an elven princess clutching the lapels of the robe that slides off her shoulders whilst her supple ears hear something startling in the night!
February’s “Gothic Lolita” wears the satiny ruffled, low – cut, Wine Red gown that matches the gradient hues of her flower – adorned hair that frames her large captivating eyes that are like gleaming amethyst; and March’s “Ethereal Enchantress” is an alluring Blonde haired, dark skinned, Mauve-winged  faerie in the Blue bare midriff gown with detached sleeves!
Apurril’s “Metamorphosis” depicts tendrilled wings unfolding as a bare – midriffed Blonde pixy stretches in awakened emergence from the diaphanous chrysalis open the tree branch; and May’s pic of  “The Gateway” has an ornate iron gate cheerfully guarded by a faerie whose sexy indigo, liliac, lavender pink & black outfit splendidly match her lapis – like wings!
June’s “Song of the Ocean” is of the wispy luminous notes emitted from the shell music box which is enjoyed by the Golden – haired, Purple – scaled mermaid perched upon the rock, whilst July’s image of “Summer Days” depicts a sweet catgirl in the Hot Pink halter top and Blue denim shorts, holding the cute widdle Gray kitten during the stroll in the lovely park!
August’s Platinum Blonde “Spirit Guide” is serenely majestic with the lovely staff, antlers, wings, long flowy skirt & plunging bustier amidst a misty grove of the trees; whilst September’s Strawberry Blonde “Tattooed Lady” is exotically beautiful in the tube top & loin cloth that flaunt her inked curves, from her head wings & cute fangs to the swishy spade – tipped tail!
For October there is an “Eerie Encounter” as owl silhouettes with glowy eyes add to the sense of the mousey girl’s dread in the dark spooky forest; and in November’s “Golden Harvest” the fiery – hued wings and dress are the purrfect autumn style for the pixie purrched upon a yummy pumpkin! A larger version of this illustration graces the calendar’s front cover!
Lastly but not leastly  to top off the calendar is December’s “Christmas Angel” flying in her snowy – trimmed Dark Green santa girl dress with Black mittens & strappy boots above the wintry mountain tree line! I think this is an exquisitely gorgeous calendar which I will heartily recommend for fans of  fantasy female art!  Speaking of which, now here is Petra to present
the latest additions to Catgirl Island’s Mewsum of Art!
Arigato, nya! For those who might be here for the first time, Galleries 1-7 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya!
On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped, full pics, nya! This month we have added 4 images to Guest Gallery 4, and 3 images to Gallery 6, nya!
In Guest Gallery 4, we are purroud to purrsent Rebecca’s illustration of the catgirl’s “Dance”, nya! Rebecca used the pens & Copic markers to render this sexy sight of the sassy Honey Blonde – haired catgirl who twists to glance our way, nya! She is wearing the very clingy, tight Magenta – colored halter top and mini skirt with the beaded fringe, fingerless gloves and thigh high boots, mew la la, nya!
Nextly in Guest Gallery 4 we are delighted to display the cute “Cowgirl” by Lumshock, who used the Pokemon Art Academy tools on the Nintendo 3DS to render this image of Blonde bovine barefoot beauty who has the lovely swishy tail and sharp horns, nya! She looks so sweetly alluring in her short, off – shoulder kimono with flowers and ribbons amidst the flurry of the cherry blossoms, nya!

Then we are ecstatic to exhibit the “Fall Equinox” scene by our web master Jamie Robertson, who used Photoshop CC215, Painter 216, Clip Studio Paint, and a stock pose by Elandria to render this image of Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan strolling amongst the Maples, nya! She is the heroic witchy were-panther star of Jamie’s web comic Clan of the Cats, and was a guest for our August 2007 Mew, nya!
After that is the bust portrait doodle of “Tabitha” the catgirl by Misty Hopkins, a great artist & cosplayer who was a guest of the March 2008 Mew, nya! We are so happy to have another illustration of her character Tabitha, and this’un was delightfully doodled with the pencil & pens, nya!
In Gallery 6, we have purremiered Mike’s fan art / photo-manip “Misty as Cheetara”, nya! Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to alter the photo (which was purrvided by Misty) to transform her into Cheetara from the 2011 Thundercats animated TV series, nya!
After that is Mike’s fan art of sisters “Tigress and Cheshire” of the Young Justice animated TV series, nya! The agile, expurrt archer Artemis Crock alias Tigress (on the right) and the deadly assassin Jade Nguyen alias Cheshire (on the left) are the daughters of criminals Paula Crock and Sports Master, nya. Paula was repentant and Artemis joined the team of supurr heroes, but unfortunately Jade became a member of the criminal league, nya.
Lastly but not leastly, also added to Gallery 6 is the rear view of us in the swim wear with the body paint, tempurrary Cutie Mark tattoos, costume wigs, costume tails, horns & wings for our cosplay as the Equestria Girls, nya! From right to left are Ilyana as Sunset Shimmer, Myayr as Rarity, Vonny as Applejack, Tara-chan as Fluttershy, Trini-chan as Twilight Sparkle, Bun as Rainbow Dash, and myself as Pinkie Pie, nya! So, what do y’all think of the art, nya?
Mary Nyan:
Rebecca’s Dancing catgirl is such a happily vivacious, alluring sight, from her cute widdle fangs and sassy tongue to her swishy tail and the clingy tight outfit!
Hai hai there are such splendid details from her large concave ear pinna and the sheen of her swaying hair to the highlights and shiny finish of her sexy attire!
Lumshock’s darling cowgirl looks so delightful with the nice touches such as the Red ribbon on her horns to match the trim & the obi of her short kimono, nya!
The colors are richly vibrant with cel-style shading and the smooth lines put the cowgirl in sharpurr focus against the depth of the more softly – rendered trees!
Between Lumshock’s Cowgirl and Jamie’s Equinox, it is the good month for the illustrations of lovely ladies in the contrast amongst the trees’ colorful foliage!
Oh I think that Chelsea looks quite elegant in that sleeveless long Black dress with the opurra gloves and the purrasol amidst the fiery fall hues of the Maples!
It is so nice to see new pics of Tabitha and Misty in our mewseum! Tabitha has such a wild short coiffure accented by the ornate piercings of her tufted ears!
In the photo manip of Misty as Cheetara, I like the variation of the skin tones with the lighter tummy, the darker spots and – and the Pink facial markings, nya!
Hai, and I also quite like the White – tufted Black ear pinna that match the sleeveless, Black and Tan, bare – midriff costume with the Brown fingerless gloves!
I think there is a good graphic & thematic symmetry in the image of the colorfully costumed Tigress & Cheshire with the dynamically posed, lithe physiques!
Tigress, Cheshire & their sympathetic mom were among the many great characters of Young Justice, and I wish that there would be more epurrsodes of it!
From the fittings to the festivities, we had a very merry time in our Equestria Girls cosplay on the beach, and I thank Mike for that illustration of us, nya!
Oh, you’re very welcome- it was a lot of fun to do! TAh well, thank y’all for taking the time to pose for that pic, and Petra, thank you for presenting the art!
Doitashimaste, nya!
The Cat Lady Sings…
Gosh, Tara-chan did not get distracted by any bugs to photograph!
Purrhaps I will see still some interesting critters before bed time, nya!
I think we are done, and it is almost time for our AfterMew Luau, nya!
I guess that will wrap it up for another edition of The Mew!
We wish to thank Rebecca, Lumshock and Jamie for the lovely art!
We wish to thank the other talented folks whose works we discussed…
… Jamie for his web mastery here at The Mew and Catgirl Island…
… our other friends, relatives & audience whom we appurreciate, nya!
