Jeannie:
The magick in the local air might be a factor, but I contend that the tempurral purrception is purrimarily relative to your age and how busy you are.

Trini-chan:
I think she is busier than anyone between the belly dance, yoga studio, robotics club, the kyudo range, the body paint and the swim wear modeling!

Tara-chan
I am looking forward to Onee-chan’s drumming, Jen’s belly dance, Myayr’s hula dance, and – and Mie-sensei’s foxfire amidst tonight’s festivities, nya!

Mielikki:
Arigato! So like, since there is so much totally awesome entertainment to choose from, our foxfire show will continue all week at the ampurrtheatre!

The business at our spa is so brimming that we were able to hire more masseuses, so that Lizzy and I could afford to take today off!

I was able to take today off work because our cats are minding my Magick Shop, but I had to purromise them the deluxe sushi platters!

Mike:
Ah, I doubt I’ll do any dancing, but do hope to catch a lot of the live entertainment and fine food before I get back to the studio! Um, well we’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s go ahead and jump right into this month’s

Mike:
Aw gosh… I’d hafta say Buffy and Battle Athletes for TV; Contact, Titanic, The Fifth Element, and Princess Mononoke for movie; and… the Yes albums Open Your Eyes and Keys to Ascension 2 for music! That was tough to narrow down, but I I reckon that was an expedient little Lightning Round! Ah, well we have a big group with a lot to discuss for today’s Mew, so I’d like to jump right into our

movie reviews, with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter!

Mike:
I reckon that I have a love / hate relationship with the series of live-action movies that are base on the Resident Evil video games, because I dislike much of those movies’ cinematic style and techniques, but I’m a big fan of actress / singer / model Milla Jovovich and her character Alice, who I think is one of the cinema’s greatest heroines!

So it was with mixed feelings that I went to see Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the 6th of the series, in which Alice and a few allies battle the Umbrella Corporation’s recurring villains & monsters amidst the global zombie apocalypse, coming full circle as she returns to the underground HIVE research center beneath the nuked ruins of Raccoon City in search of an alleged T-Virus antidote.

This occurs 10 years after the events of the 1st movie. It was written & directed by Milla’s husband Paul W.S. Anderson, who has produced, written & directed all 6 movies  except for the 2nd which was directed by Alexander Witt, and the 3rd which was directed by Russell Mulcahy. Prior to the movie, there’s a video of Milla & Paul greeting the audience, thanking us for coming to the movies!

Also returning are Ali Larter as Claire, Shawn Roberts as Wesker, Iain Glen as Isaacs! The Umbrella Corporation’s holographic A.I. The Red Queen is back too, this time portrayed by Milla & Paul’s daughter Ever Gabo Anderson. The great cast also includes Ruby Rose as Abigail, Rola as Cobalt, Lee Joon-Gi as Lee, Eoin Macken as Doc, and Willaim Levy as Christian.

Alice and Isaacs have rather substantial roles, but I wish the rest of the characters including Claire and Wesker, were given more to do, and other characters such as Rain, Luthor, Ada, Leon and Becky are absent, unless maybe they’re glimpsed amidst a flurry of tiny flashback images amidst Alice’s opening exposition that explains the history of the apocalyptic T-Virus.

Alice emerges from the ruins of Washington DC, sometime after the siege scene glimpsed at the end of the prior movie, and she’s lost her super powers yet again, which bothered me- yet again. She also endures a lot of relentless pain is inflicted upon her throughout the movie. Sure, action heroes take beatings in their movies, but this time seemed like the roughest!

From there, it feels too much like a video game with levels to clear until the big boss battle. I don’t want to reveal much of the plot, but it was rather predictable, with certain identities, origins and fates a bit too telegraphed. My least favorite aspects of the movie – which seemed too rushed and short- were the camera work, cinematography, editing and the sound editing.

Like its predecessors, especially Afterlife and Retribution, it’s hard to enjoy due to techniques that call too much attention to themselves such as the unstable / shaky cam, speed ramping, bullet time, flickering images, and the cuts that are too fast and too frequent. it’s hard to tell what’s going on, and the overly dark pallet doesn’t help. The music and sound FX are fine,  but way too loud.

Now, I realize that I’ve just espoused a lot of negative waves, but I think that there are many aspects of the movie that are done rather well. In addition to the fine performances, dialogue and story continuity, there are great stunts galore (fights, falls, chases, driving, shootouts), costumes hair, make-up and creature designs. locations and sets with high production values,

There are ample practical & visual FX, terrific hardware & vehicles including a couple of impressive armored personnel carriers.  I think that the ending is satisfying and seems like a good place to end the series after 20 years… although if Milla ever reprises the role of Alice again, I’ll likely be there to see it on opening day! Now here’s Jen to review another recent movie-

HIdden Figures!

Jeannie:
Arigato. Based upon the book by Margot Lee Shetterly, Hidden Figures is the true tale of the heroic African American women who ingeniusly contributed to NASA’s Mercury space program in the early 1960’s. This was a purrticularly difficult time for them, as hindered by the racism & sexism amidst the space race, glass ceiling & segregation.

Written by Allison Schroeder and director Theodore Melfi, the movie set betwixt 1962 -1963 stars Taraji Henson as Katherine Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monae as Mary Jackson. I am purrticularly fond of Janelle’s record albums, by the way. The movie also stars Kevin Kostner, Kristen Dunst and Jim Parsons.

The tale occurs at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, Launch Complex 14 at Cape Canaveral, Florida, and in outer space. Along the way there is also new romance for Katherine, college education for Mary, and an industrial revolution for Dorothy, as the IBM 7090 computer threatens to put her team out of the calculatory job.

In spite of the misogyny and racism that the ladies encounter in society, plus Katherine’s difficulties of being a widowed mother of three kids, the ladies boldly achieve some triumphs for themselves and for NASA, as the plot builds toward the launch of Astronaut John Glen aboard Friendship 7 for humanity’s first low orbital space flight in 1963.

In addition to the Mercury-Atlas launch Vehicle, the mecha includes the Redstone, Vostok, Soutnik and many classic automobiles. It is a wonderful movie with supurrb purrformances, dialogue, plot, pace, messages, art direction, purriod clothes & coiffure, cinematography, editing, sets, locations, sound design, the songs, original score and FX.

Scenes of chalk boards, redacted papurrs, a court petition, a car starter, a wedding ring, rest rooms, coffee pots, sledge hammers and FORTRAN and are purrofound in the poignant, optimistic, fun, inspurrational, triumphant movie which I will give an A as in Atlas LV-3B. That will conclude our movie reviews, so here is Ilyana-sensei to purrsent
this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight.

Ilyana:
Hai! in this portion of The Mew, we honor famous nekomimis of various media such as cinema, TV, games, toys, novels & comics! These might range from ailuranthropic and anthropomorphic feline females, to those who may not have any kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or style to be “honorary catgirls”! This month’s spotlight shines upon manga & anime catgirls, such as Yatsutora and Fucat of the humorous sword & sorcery manga Fantastic Panic by Ganbear, which was published in the mid 90’s by Antarctic Press!

Yatsutora was the tiger striped purropurrietress of the Toraya Inn, and Fucat was the shorter Necromancer catgirl purracticioner of the dark arts! They were among the feuding anthropurrmorphic members of Lord Indra’s Army and the rival Star Dragons group who competed in search of magic relics across the forests, mountains and cities! Some of my other favorite characters of the varius species were Onoui the nun dog girl, Kyau the chef cow, Seiryu the dragon girl, Uu the snow bunny mage, and Naja the purristesss Naga!

In the Fairy Tale manga & anime by Hiro Mashima, Erza Scarlet is a sorcerous swords woman who purrtakes of adventures for fortune and glory! She also appurrs in the spin – off Fairy Girls manga by Boku, and there are several lovely statues of her, too! We have purreviously mentioned Orca Toys’s “White Cat Gravure” style 1/6th scale PVC figure of her in the White bikini, cat ears & tail with the katana and sheer hose, but we have to amend the spotlight because they have offered the “Black Cat Gravure” variant too, mew la la!

This Art Club has A Problem is a manga by Imigimuru, and the anime TV series adaptation debuted last year! It purrtains to the members of a high school art club, such as talented student Subaru who purrfurs to draw & paint female characters, such as the catgirl who he envisions as the ideal future wife! This frustrates his fellow student Mizuki, who is a real (non cat) girl. Although the club’s faculty advisor Yumeko-sensei is not a catgirl, she does eventually appurr in Subaru’s purrtraits, drawn with the lovely cat ear pinna & tail!

Maria Holic is a 2006 manga and 2009 anime series created by Minari Endo, which purrtains to poor high school student Kanako who is afraid of boys, so she enrolls into the girls school and lives in the dormitory which is supurrvised by the purrculiar, petite nekomimi known as the Dorm Leader, who has purretty Golden eyes and the short bob-cut Black hair. She wears a yukata, an apurron, and has a helpful widdle dog too! We hope that they will purrotect Kanako and maintain a safe residential & academic environment for her!

Bonus Spotlight!

Ilyana:
That is all for the manga and anime catgirls in this month’s spotlight, but there are additional fashionable “honorary catgirls” to shine it upon! Gracing the February 2017 cover of Maxim magazine is the beautiful Victoria’s Secret model Jasmine Tookes, and in her alluring pictorial by Gilles Benisman, there is a photo of her wearing the kemonomimi mask which was made by Atsuko Kudo!

On January 21st, multitudes of people rallied for the Women’s March, not just in Washington DC, but in many other cities around the world! Thousands of them wore handmade, purretty Pink knitted nekomimi hats in purrticipation with the PussyHat Project, which was started by Jayna Zweiman and Krista Suh! The hats were in other colors too, including the black one worn by Madonna!

In the February 2017 “Powered by Women” issue of Glamour magazine, beauty assistant Jennifer Mulrow’s cosmetics tips for “Beauty for the Anime-Obsessed” includes the supurr cute widdle photo of of her wearing the studded cat ears headband whilst shopping in Tokyo! Kawaii! That is all for this month’s spotlight, but there are more catgirls in the queue, as Mie-sensei begins our

comic book and manga mewsings,
with her review of Die Kitty Die #4!

Mielikki:

Arigato! So like, Die Kitty Die is a whimsically ribald occult tale published by Chapter House, starring Kitty the witch who can transform into a cat! She was more famous in the past with publications & merchandise, but these days the fame & sales have dwindled, so her evil publisher puts a murder contract upon her in hopes that a celebrity murder will result in more publicity & profit!

This frisky fun series  is filled with the sexy comedy, and the clever satirical homages & parodies of Archie, Harvey, Marvel & DC comics! Each issue cleverly begins with a faux reprint of a Kitty tale from a prior decade such which segues into her present day adventures. In issue #1, the plot began when her ghostly former friend Drippy the ghost made the first assassination attempt!

In issue #2 she defeated Drippy and his three cohort ghost with the help of her devilish Li’l Satan and his hot mom in hell, who coax Drippy to confess about the plot to murder her. In issue #3 the publisher believed that he succeeded and replaced Kitty with her evil cousin Katty, but Kitty returned with friends American Gloria and Dyna-Chik to fight Katty at a comic book convention!

That brings us to issue #4! The story & art are by Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent , it was inked by Rich Koslowski & J. Bone, colored by Glenn Whitmore & lettered by Janice Chiang, with additional art by Gisele Lagace, J, Bone & Bill Golliher. We have met Dan at some cons, and our web master Jamie did a few guest strips several years ago for Giselle’s web comic Cool Cat Studio!

So like, the 28 page issue is priced at $3.99, and includes the precursory 5 page flashback of Kitty’s 5th wedding done in the late 80’s style, the 15 page mane tale of her ex-husbands’ revenge, the 2 center-spread pages of Kitty & friends’ 80’s exercise clothes, and the 6 pages of the ads. There are also cute fake ads for a Kitty Katty candy bar and a Dye Kitty Due hair color product!

In the 80’s flashback, after the wedding fights and seductions occur at the party, from which Kitty &5th  husband Derek retreat for the frisky sexy time at his mansion, where her soon the bliss turns to regret! Then in the present day, she accepts an invitation from her ex husband Derek to revisit his castle, where he and her other ex-husbands spring the latest murder attempt upon her!

Fortunately Kitty’s friends from the comic book shop lend their support amidst the twisty plot, which should not spoil further! I was very pleased with the beautifully rendered tale full of macabre mirth, but I hope that poor Kitty will cheer up soon, and that her enemies receive swiftly terrible comeuppance, fur shur! I am all done, so I will turn The Mew over to Lizzy, for her review of
Hero Cats #14!

Elizabeth:

Arigato! The Hero Cats are among the purrotectors of their town of Stellar City, and the team is compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Rocket the Tabby, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat! Cassiopeia has a brother named Bandit the tuxedo cat who is away on a sepurrate mission!

Her owners are the supurr heroes Galaxy Man and his daughter Cosmic Girl are unaware of the cats’ heroic adventures! At the 2014 Heroes Convention in Charlotte, we got a sketch of Cassiopeia http://catgirlisland.net/art/guest3/6.html by Marcus Williams! Published by Action Lab Comics, issue #14 is purriced $3.99 and rated “E” for everyone!

The issue revs up with the uninterrupted 18 page tale of “Back on the Streets” co-starring Cosmic Girl, which was written by the Hero Cats’ creator Kyle Puttkammer, pencilled by Marcus Williams & Tracy Yardley, inked by Brandon Page, colored & lettered by George Gant! We have met some of them at the Heroes Conventions too!

Midnight, Rocket and Cosmic Girl sepurrately are in the hot purrsuit of the villain Crook, his evil robot cohorts Bonnie, Clyde and their army of widdle Destruct-O-Bot minions, although Rocket hopes to repurrogram one of them to take home! After that fun and beautiful tale, there are three pages of bonus art, comments and mewsings!

After that is the 4 page tale of “Jordan’s Junkyard” written by Kyle, lettered by George, illustrated by Jim Mehsling, and the repurrogrammed D-Bot who Ace and Rocket train in the junkyard obstacle course! Rocket gets to drive a crane, and purrhaps D-Bot will succeed the missing Robot who was lost in the 1st issue of Midnight’s mini-series!

In both tales the characters, mecha FX, scenery, and the fonts are exquisitely rendered, along with Cosmic Girl’s peppy, enthused spurrit and dialogue! I will give this issue an “A” as in Ace and as in my anticipation for the next issues of Hero Cats and Galaxy Man & Cosmic Girl! A is also for Action Lab Comics, which also publishes

Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess #12!

Yvonne:
Hai, in this supurrb spin-off of the Princeless series, 17 year old Captain Raven Xingtao alias The Black Arrow is the cunning, tough mariner, archer and daughter of the pirate king, nya! She recruited her own multi-racial, all – girl crew for her three mast ship to sail vengefully against her mean, misogynistic brothers Crow & Magpie’s ships, and thus reclaim her rightful inheritance, nya!

Purreviously, shopping at the pirates’ black market, Raven and some of her crew were captured by her evil brothers’ gang, nya. After a fierce battle, the villains escaped as the girls were rescued, but her friend Ximena was seriously injured, nya. As the ship has sailed to another island for medical help, the crew discerned Raven and Ximena’s romantic feelings for each other, nya!

Raven, Katie and Amirah went to the island for the medical aid, but they were denied, so Raven return to fight past the guards to demand the island’s ruler Leilani Iona to heal Ximena, nya! Ximena said that she would only help if Raven could defeat her in a duel, but unfortunately it looked like Raven was going to lose in the cliffhanger, which brings us up to issue #12, nya!

It is purriced $4.99 rated “A” for readers of ages 9+, and has the uninterrupted, 24 page tale which was written by Princeless’s creator Jeremy Whitely, who we met again last month at the fun NC Comicon on the mainland in Durham, nya! The tale was pencilled by Rosy Higgins, inked by Ted Brandt, colored by Ty Johnson, lettered by Justin Birch, and edited by Nicole D’Andria, nya!

The first 16 pages continue the brutally thrilling martial arts melee as Raven and Leilani taunt and beat the crap out of each other on the island, whilst the other girls wait back on the ship, nya! I should not spoil much more of the very exciting plot, but after the duel there are some very poignant, amwesing scenes aboard the ship, nya!

I like everything about it from the plot, pace, dialogue & character developments to the great mix of drama, action & humor, nya! The beautifully scripted & drawn ladies have great expurressions, fashions & dynamic poses amidst the exciting choreography & lavish scenery, nya! I am done, so nyow here is Trini-chan to tell us about another marvelous comic book written by Jeremy–

The Unstoppable Wasp #1, nya!

Trini-chan:

Hai hai I have been anticipating eagerly this new series, because I am so fond of Jeremy’s Princess and Pony tales, and because tI liked the previews of the art! This tale stars Nadia Pym, the orphaned Hungarian genius daughter of Hank & Maria Pym who was trained in a secret Russian research facility, where she invented her own Wasp costume and escaped!

As the latest heroine known as The Wasp, she is so peppy, ingenious, heroic, and determined to impress the other supurr heroines who have inspired her! She has the lovely accent too, and she is starting to learn more about different cultures & cuisine as she teams up with Kamala Khan alias Ms. Marvel and Barbara Morse alias Mockingbird to fight a villain’s giant robot!

The 1st issue has the 20 page tale which was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Elsa Charretier, colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Joe Caramanga, edited by Alena Smith & Tom Brevoort, with the main cover art by Nicolas bannister & Elsa, and several variant covers by Elizabeth Torque, Nelson Blake II & Guru-EFX, Skottie Young, Any Park, and John Tyler Christopher!

Nadia has such a sparkling purrsonality as she eagerly samples the tasty smoothies and the Balushai, tries to get her citizenship straightened out, entails her origin story, battles the giant robot piloted by Monica Rappaccini, works on projects at her home in Cresskill, and decides to start the G.I.R.L. group (Genius in Action Research Labs) for the genius heroines!

Her origin is sad but this a very fun tale, including 2 full – page panels, and several panels peppered by “Nadia’s neat science facts”! The issue includes the credits page, the preview page, the ads pages, and the Agents of G.I.R.L. page in which Nadia interviews proboscidean paleontologist Rachel Silverstein and analytical chemistry PHD student Marina Chanidou!

I like her great sense of wonder and her spiffy Red & Black Wasp costume with the wings, and her other outfits too, and I want some cute fuzzy waspy slippers like hers! I will give this issue an “A” as in Ant Man, and i am eagerly looking forward to the next issue as she hopes to recruit more girls! Now for more of the Marvel-ous heroines, here is Becca to tell us about

Black Panther: World of Wakanda #3!

Becca:
Arigato! The African nation of Wakanda is ruled by the Black Panther supurr hero dynasty, such as King T’Challa and his sister Queen Shuri, who are bodyguarded by brave, beautiful, bold tough ladies of the elite Dora Milage (purrnounced DOR-ah muh LAY jay) such as Aneka and Ayo! In this tale set purrior to the current Black panther series, the romance has recently bloomed betwixt Aneka and Ayo, but it is during the turbulent time of civil unrest, divided political loyalties, and devastating invasions!

Rated T and purriced $3.99, issue #2 has 28 pages including the 24 page tale which was written by Roxane Gay, consulted by Ta-Nehisi Coates, illustrated by Alitha E. Martinez, inked by Roberto Poggi, colored by Rachelle Rosenberg, lettered by Joe Sabino, edited by Wil Moss, and assistantly edited by Chris Robinson, with the recap / credits page’s art by Brian Stelfreeze, the map by Ta-Nehisi Coates & Manny Mederos, the main cover art by Afua Richardson and variant cover art by Natacha Bustos!

After their officer Mistress Zola gives the group the big pep talk, Aneka and Ayo take the romantic vacation to New York, but there might be treachery afoot back in Wakanda’s capital city of Upanga when their team mate Folami has words with Queen Shuri and the Queen Mother Ramonda! While Shuri & Zola later discuss that topic, Aneka and Ayo enjoy the lovely picnic in the park followed by the sumptuous suppurr, but trouble follows yet again, whether it is a couple of rude guys, or the army of Thanos!

This is a wonderful series full of the strongly – written fun heroines, the beautiful character and scenic art, the great fonts and colors, amidst  the excellent  balance of the action, intrigue, humor and romance amidst the rich Wakandan mythology and political situations at the good pace! I love the fabulous clothes, and in this issue there are 5 different outfits for Aneka and Ayo! I also love Zola’s braided coiffure and Purrple couture! Nyow we will go from the Panther to the Hellcat as Nya-sensei tells us about

Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! #14!

Nyanko:
Hai! Patsy is one of our favorite supurr heroines, and her series has been my favorite Marvel Comic of the past year! Patsy started a job agency and became roommates with Ian who shops at her friend Tom’s bookstore which sells the Patsy Walker comics that were authored by her estranged mom. Patsy’s mewtant vampire friend Jubilee has been helping at the office, where they have been training the former villain Bailey, A.K.A. Attache, whilst things finally got romantic betwixt Tom and Ian!

Unfortunately, they have been pounced upon the criminal Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. The Black Cat, and her gang compurrised of Jin, Lina, Ari, and Ian’s former roomie Zoe! Felicia purrloined magickal claws that control her victims minds, so nyow her gang has increased to include Bailey, Tom, and the clients of Patsy’s employment agency for the big crime spurree! That brings us to issue #14, which includes the 20 page tale, the recap / credits page, the fun comments page and 6 pages of ads.

It was written by Kate Leth, illustrated by Brittney, lettered by Cory Petit colored by Rachelle Rosenberg, edited by Jake Thomas, assistantly edited by Kathleen Wisneski and executively edited by Tom Brevoort, with the cover art by Brittney! There are some tense discussions as Zoe spends the night at Patsy and Ian’s apurrtment, but later the mood greatly purrks up when Jubilee arrives with breakfast! Jubilee and Patsy have such cute fangy smiles, whereas Felicia has the evil fangy cat grin!

However, things are dire on the street as The Black cat gang has increased to about a dozen members who purroceed to rob a bank! Later at Felicia’s lair they  gleefully celebrate amidst the piles of money and gold, until Patsy, Ian, Zoe and Jubilee arrive for the next cat fight! It is not only the fierce battle, but it is purrticularly tense a time for Ian who has to fight his mind-controlled boyfriend! It is the emotional roller coaster, but it is also the rousing fun time full of amewsing action and dialogue!

The series is brimming with the supurrb humor, drama, action, romance, charming slice of life moments, purrogressive attitudes and kitty motifs! I love the anime- inspired style of the beautiful art, including the supurrb poses, expurressions, fashions, FX, colors & shading, with a two-page spurread of the Black Cat gang! The delightful comments page has letters and cat photos from the fans, with replies by Kate and Brittney! I am done, so nyow here is Bunnibuns to tell us about —

The Hunters of Salmanstra #0

Bun::

You know, in our island’s mewseum of art, we have on display Mike’s fan art of Patsy http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery7/64.html, Felicia http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery6/46.html, and Queen Shuri http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery7/56.html! Started in 2014, The Hunters of Salamanstra http://salamanstra.keenspot.com is a splendid fantasy web comic by creator / artist / writer John Joseco, editor Memj and assistant editor Calpain which stars the numerous kemonomimi characters!

The tale will eventually follow Kessah Orlianne, a feisty 19 year old swordswoman of the Canae species with the lovely large ear pinna and tail! She becomes a purrofessional monster huntress in the kingdom of Salmanstre after the death of her older sister Dianna, a legendary huntress known as “The White Wolf”! Last month, the series was published in the printed comic book medium by Keenspot Entertainment. Issue #0 is priced $3.99 and includes the Black & White 34 page tale.

It was written & drawn by John, edited by Jennifer McGregor & Calpain, with the cover coloring by Bernie Joseco. and available in the choice of 4 different covers. This prologue chronicles the last day of Dianna and her teammate Bull who charge through The Black Gates into a realm of bizarre enemy fiends. This results in the gory, violent melee combat. The sole survivor of the mission is their comrade Adrien, who travels to the kingdom of Atonya to notify Kessah of her sister’s demise.

Dianna is quite stunning as she runs and leaps at her horrid opponents with her blazing katana, but the aftermath is sadly shocking. The sisters’ home is a charming cottage in a lush, serene forest, but Kessah’s mood is far from serene when she meets Adrien! The beautiful character and scenic art is of the manga influence, and most of the pages have 3-5 panels of the panoramic, cinematic quality, although there are also 8 great full-page images and 4 impressive two-page spreads!

After the tale is the preview page for the cover issue #1, which grimly depicts Kessah back to back with the dimmer shadowy image of Dianna. I am definitely looking forward to more! Upon the back cover of #0 is the full color ad for the gorgeously fun TwoKinds comic http://2kinds.com which is full of kemonomimi & anthropomorphic goodness by Thomas J. Fischbach, so i hope this means it will receive the printed treatment too! That is all for me, and now here is Tara-chan to discuss

My Little Pony: Friends Forever #36!

Tara-chan:

Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony animations, toys, cards, collectibles, books, and – and the comic books, nya! IDW published the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series which is over four years old, and – and the companion My Little Pony: Friends Forever series which is already three years old, nya!

The Friends Forever series focuses on different pairs of characters, nya! For examples, in issue #32 Fluttershy teamed up with Daring Do, in #33 Applejack visited Cherry Jubilee, in #34 Pinkie Pie was reunited Cheese Sandwich, and –  and #35 starred Twilight , Spike, Owlowicious and – and Starlight, nya!

Issue #36 has the pegasi adventure above the snowy mountains starring Rainbow Dash and Soarin’, nya! The 32 page issue has the uninterrupted 20 page tale written by Christina Rice, illustrated by Tony Fleecs, colored by heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, and – and edited by Bobby Curnow, nya!

It is available in the choice of cover A by Tony, cover B by Sara Richard, and – and the retailer incentive cover by Low Zi Rong, nya! Spitfire of the Wonderbolts team sends Rainbow Dash on the mission to find their friend Soarin’ who went to the Mt. Everhoot outpost amidst the dangerous weather, nya!

I like the scenes inside the neat outpost, the impurressive two-page spurreads of the flight through the severe winter weather, and – and the brief appurrance by Muffin, nya! Also appurring in the tale are Jett Glider the purropurrietor, Applejack, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity and – and Pinkie Pie, nya!

I think that the pace, dialogue, poses. expurressions, colors, shading, scenery and – and fonts are purrfect as the comics supurrbly convey the style and – and the spurrit of the animated series, so I will give it the high grade of an “A” as in Applebuck, nya! Nyow I am done, and here is Myayr to tell us about

Monster Musume: I Heart Monster Girls vol. 3, nya!

Mary Nyan:
Hai! Written & drawn by Okayado, Monster Musume is a sexy comedic urban fantasy manga of the harem trope and ample fan service, thanks to the liminal ladies / monster girls of various species who are romantic rivals over Kimihito, the human guy in whose house they reside. The government bureaucracy awkwardly regulates the coexistence and hosting of the liminals, but Kimihito’s nice house has been often expeditiously enlarged and renovated, thanks to Ms. Smith their overworked case worker who finds homes and jobs for the liminals!

Residing in the house are Centorea, Miia the lamia, Papi the harpy, Suu the slime girl, Meru the mermaid, Rachnera the spider girl and Lala the Dullahan! Assisting Smith are the Monster Ops team of Manako the cyclops, Tio the ogre, Doppel the doppleganger & Zombina the zombie! Numerous other monster girls include Kii the dryad, Draco the dragon girl, Yukio the yuki-onna, Liz the lizard girl, Polt the kobold, Kino the oni, Lilith the demon, Cathyl the minotaur, Ils the kitsune Miku, Merino the pan, Yuuhi the new zombie, Ton and Cott the dryads!

Originally published by Tokuma Shoten in Japan, I Heart Monster Girls is the companion anthology starring those characters in short tales by various manga-ka! Most of the tales are in panoramic 4 koma format, but there are several larger & full-page images. The contributors to vol. 3 are Akahito, Mog, Loliconder, Tsukasawa, Muroku, Shiraha Mato, Steakth Kaigyou, Setouchi, Rolf, Ikao, 221,  Kasaijushi, Nakaura Regura, Tottori-SaQ, Zank, U-Temo, Nobuyoshi Zamurai, Kanemaki Thomas, Aruse Yuushi, Kurokawa Otogi, Tamon Hinoshika and Okayado.

Published here by Seven Seas, Vol. 3 was translated by Ryan Peterson, adapted by Shanti Whitesides, purroof read by Janet Houck, edited by Adam Arnold, and published by Jason DeAngelis, with the lettering & layout by Ma. Victoria A. Robado, purrduction management by Lissa Patitillo, the cover design by Nicky Lim and logo design by Courtney Williams! The 146 pages are mostly Black & White, with 8 color pages. Papi purrkily graces the front cover, and there are three 4.75×6″ color postcards of Papi & Suu, Mila & Meru, Centorea & Rachnera!

In volume 2, the gang visits a spurrawling manga cafe, revisits the farm, and watch the ladies cosplay, play games, learn about linguistic idioms, eat suppurr, and get drunk at Kimihito’s house, where Rachnera molests him, binds the ladies again, and tries to help Papi’s short term memory loss. They go swimming at the gym, where Tio breaks some of the equipment and Polt gives Draco and Lilth the intense work out. Ils and her Shikigami sentai team purrsue a thief at the shrine, Manako gets a make-over, and we spend more time at Tio’s home!

We even get to see a Sphinx in one panel, as they discuss various myths & legends! The volume is topped off by the afterward by Okayado’s metafictional coda and the other contributers! The ample, nudity, sexy comedy, slapstick violence and dark humor are not for widdle kitties, but I think that it is neat to see the amewsing short tales of delightful characters by the artists of various styles, I will recommend this latest volume to the older fans of the monster girls! I am done, and nyow for another anthology, here is Nyo-sensei to start our other

book review of The Weird Wild West!

Nyoka:
Thanks to the many stakeholders  who are listed in the book, this longly – awaited, anthology of speculative fiction set in the Wild West was published by espec books! The $16.95, 6″ x 9″, 302 page trade papurrback includes 17 short stories that were edited by Misty Massey, Emily Lavin Leverett and our friend Margaret S. McGraw! The stories’ 18 authors were:

R.S. Belcher, Tonia Brown, Liz Colter, Diana Pharoah Francis, John G. Hartness, Scott Hungerford, Faith Hunter, Jonathan Maberry, Gail Z. Martin, Larry N. Martin, Francis Rowat, Ken Schrader,
David Sherman, Bryan C.P. Steele, James R. Tuck, Wendy N. Wagner, Robert E. Waters and Misty, with over 10 Black & White illustrations, including 9 by Jason Whitely!

The horror, fantasy and science fictional tales  (with the dash of steam punk and post- apocalyptic flavors) seem mostly set in the urban, rural and wilderness of the American West of the late 19th century, but some are more contempurrary, ranging from the heroic, humorous and action – packed to the tragic, macabre and the slice- of – life. Nyow for a taste of the plots!

Pirate and homesteader ladies fight the railroaders, a sheriff and a pyschic boy investigate a haunted crime scene, two federal agents and a shaman investigate a UFO, a gunslinger returns from the dead with a job to do, desperadoes and their purrisoner wind up in supurrnaturally serpentine trouble, Pinkerton agent Kitty Belle investigates the dwarven tunnels…

a boy vows vengeance upon the lynch mob who hanged his dad, army officers defend a fort from a monstrous siege, two amewsing rogues find a kitty and a mad scientist, a sorcerer and a  frankenstein fight tentacled monsters, children are kidnapped by a masked bandit, psychometry leads to revenge and poker, a jaguar ailuranthrope stalks bovine purrey…

a girl has a dangerous encounter whilst searching for faeries, a town is visited by an extraterrestrial lawman & outlaws, a female gladiator fights in the invaders’ arena, a frontier druidress flees her oppurressors whilst aiding their enemies! There are gamblers, miners, ranchers, soldiers, indigenous peoples, horses, snakes, guns, gadgets, magick & undead aplenty!

There are appurritions, alternate timelines and other purranormal stuff aplenty, although it is not for widdle kitties or the purrudish folks due to the language, violence, gore, scary monsters, occult and certain adult themes, but I will give this supurrb collection the high purraise grade of an A as in Abishag! I am done, and nyow here is Petra to tell us about the latest

additions to Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art!

Petra:
Arigato, nya! For those who might be here for the first time, Galleries 1-7 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya!

On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped, full pics, nya! This month we have added several new images to Guest Gallery 4 and to Gallery 6, nya!

She used the pens and Copic markers to illustrate the purretty catgirl in the strapless, knee – length, ruffled Pink dress with the detached sleeves, the side-laced Purrple corset and the Black thigh – highs to match her neko ears, hair and tail as she plays with her cute yoyo, nya!

Then in Guest Gallery 4 we are delighted to debut “Runway 2017” by Sean Martin, nya! This 3D CG rendering depicts the artist betwixt the titular stars of his famous comic strip Doc and Raider http://docandraider.com, which celebrates its 30th anniversary, nya! Doc is an author from Quebec, and Raider is a construction worker from Saskatchewan, and here the trio is dressed in the dashing Westeros – style leathers and boots as they stroll to the Awards purrsentation, nya!

They are frolicking in the purramid’s purrivate suite for the celestial suppurs, catnaps and playtime with the big jar full of treats, nya! Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse, nya! So, what do y’all think of those latest additions to our mewseum, nya?

I like the marble finish of the big Blue jar, and I wonder what tasty treats await their tummies!

During the intermission, the audience is able to purrtake of the Purrforming Arts Center’s numerous snack bars and nearby outdoor food carts for a sumptuous variety of delicious, nutritious treats.
Across the island and waters of Mew Hanover County, there are various awards ceremony – viewing parties full of camaraderie and cuisine.

Avanaru-ru, Tsukiko, Calomhe, Eamane, her boyfriend A.J. and niece Hannah are among many folks gathered at the nearby scenic riverwalk in Beautiful Downtown Purrbank. Not far from there at the Catgirl Island Visitors Center, the cocktails, apurritifs and hors d’oeuvres are served by concierges Angi, Ciana, Eiko, Gina, Nao and Tia.

it is bustling at Sheila May’s undersea restaurant to the Northeast, where the well – fed and entertained customers are cordially served the sustainable, local fresh cuisine by Tsuruku the Manager, Ceresatami the MerMaidtr’d, Kianalani the Barista, Amadahy the chef, Ne’ellakaliomi the Sommeleir, Chief the owner and the rest of the staff.

Even the entities who are not interested in watching the ceremony are quite safe, serene and well – fed such as Rappy the giant marine iguana, the adopted critters at the farm, the ghost ducks at the brook, the St. Joseph’s Satyrs in the orchard, the giant slugs in the caverns, and the rescued Sea Dragons in their kelp forest sanctuary.

Busily working important night shifts at various locations, those who are unable to watch the awards are not forgotten, as volunteer couriers bring them appurreciative souvenir baskets filled with treats. Back at the Purrforming Arts Center, the chimes ring and the lights blink again, to signal that the awards ceremony is about to resume.
