Thank you for hosting, Bun! So, what have y’all been up to since last month’s Mew?
Gosh, I cannot believe that it has been the month since our big annual awards show! our Since then I have been gardening and baking the carrot cakes when Petra and I have not been curating the Mewseum or coaching the pre – season beach volleyball camp!
It has been the great joy for us and the fellow athletes, officials, staff, fans and purrents support the campurrs, nya! We are also grateful for the staff, volunteers, artists and patrons who are contributing to our annual Body Art Show at the Mewseum, nya!

I will be helping with the kids’ activities at the art show such as the face painting of the stripes, rosettes, the spots and – and the cheetah tears, nya! I have also been collecting the pony items, taking the nature photos, and – and helping onee-chan with the fishing charters, nya!
She has been the big help, nya! My charters have reeled in the bumpurr crop of the  Cobias, Wahoos, Groupurrs and Snappurrs, nya! Otherwise, we have been volunteering at the food bank, and my drumming circle has been purrcussioning for the dance purrformances, nya!
I have been helping them at the dock, the food bank and at the mewseum, when I have not been training for the next paddle surfing event or assisting Jenjen with the Spring semester of belly dance classes… and it is already time to register for the Summer semester!
Aside from cheering for her surfing and Nyanko’s dojo, teaching the dance classes, booking the troupe’s purrformances, and purrparing for my next swim wear photo shoot, things continue to be quite nominal at my yoga studio, the kyudo range, and at the robotics club.
Mary Nyan:
As mewsual, when i am not teaching the hula students at the Purrforming Art Center or training the appurrentice mikos at the shrine, I have been sewing the dance and cosplay costumes, such as the Dora Milage, Mass Effect, and Thunderbolt Fantasy costumes!
Lizzy and I have been pampurring the customers at our spa, which has been bustling with the many visitors who came here to escape the Winter cold and storms! However, we have used the purrofits to hire more emplyees, so that we all can still enjoy the leisure time!
Hai hai! She has been golf instructing while I have been free running and climbing with my Purrkour Club, and we have been enjoying the activities together such as the gardening, the cats, the late night hot salsa dance, and our marathon of Modern Family epurrsodes!
It seems like the hypurr time since last month’s Mew with the record attendance but no incidents! When I have not been on the purrtrol or in the office, I have been reading, watching movies, and anticipating the Vernal Foxfire Fantasy Show by Mie-sensei’s repurrtory company!
Arigato! We hope that it will be the best show ever, and lease let me know when you wish to attend so that I can reserve the seats! Otherwise, my time has migrated betwixt the golf, the lectures, and attending my totally awesome friends’ festivities and sporting events, fur shur!
My dojo students thank y’all for the cheering at the Winter regional tournyament, from which we brought home the many purrizes! Since then, I have been able to help sis more at her shop, whilst papasan and ojisan are away on their latest crystal purrospecting expurrdition!
It was so good to seem them on their recent visit, and there is the good demand for the purrecious crystals at my Magick Shop, where my employees and cats are already purrparing for our gala Vernal Equinox sale with the informational, spurritual, entertaining and delicious activities!

Fortunately there have been no emergencies for the purramedics to respond, so when I have not been on the usual patrols or at the office, I have been at the gym and I have been reading some terrific older comic books Emereldas, Ex-Mutants, Ninja High School, and Shuriken!
Hai, we got the supurr deal on the boxes of the low-purriced comics, so I have been reading the early issues Albedo, Furlough, Gold Digger, and Hit the Beach! Aside from that things have been busy but fine at the ranger station, with the safe, fun events at the beach, forest and lake!

I have to come by the station sign up for the next CIAO (Catgirl Island Amphibious Orienteering) Meet! Otherwise, I have been diving for the sunken relics, where the pesky eel was nipping at my tail, but nyow he is the anago sushi for tonight’s AfterMew Luau! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh, I’ve been spending good times with family and friends; reading watching TV and movies, listening to the radio and CDs, playing some games and staying caught up on my writing and art! Ah, since we have such a big group with much to discuss, let’s jump right into this month’s

Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round! Maybe next month we’ll look back at things from 1977! Now I’d like to turn The Mew over to Ilyana-sensei who will present this month’s
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Hai! in this portion of The Mew, we wish to honor famous catgirls of various media such as cinema, TV, games, toys, novels, comics and so forth! These might range from the ailuranthropic and anthropomorphic feline females, to those who may not actually have any kitty DNA, but do have the lovely cat-titude and / or style to be considered as “honorary catgirls”! This month’s spotlight shines upon our recent sightings of various nekomimi and other kemonomimi!
purretty widdle miss kitty graces the front cover of Color Me! Vol. 1 #62! She is the Green – eyed, White neko wearing the Black dress with the Red bow upon her head! Purriced $4.99, this fun 5.25″ x 7.75″, 62 page papurrback published by PIL has over 30 Black & White neko – themed images to color, including the nekos, yarn balls, milk bottles, paw purrints, mice, a few more daintily – clothed kitties and other feline imagery, although the art supplies are not included!
Nextly I wish to mention a few characters of the Taboo Tattoo manga written & drawn by Shinjiro! Lt. Bluesy “Easy” Fluesy is a supurr heroine of the US Army’s Blue Moon team on a secret mission in Japan to recruit a fellow supurr purrson Seiji who is targeted by the enemy Kingdom of Selinistan’s elite Bralman team! Easy does not age, she speaks several languages, she has great fighting purrowesss, the magickal tattoo-like Spell Crest, and certain cat – like qualities!
She has the sensitive cat’s tongue, and claims to have the cat’s eyes for the stealthy surveillance! One of her opponents is Iltutmish, alias the Schredinger’s Cat of the Bralman team. Formerly the homeless “stray cat” street waif, she is the savage purredator who can transform and inhabit other bodies, such as Seiji’s best friend Touka! In volume 1 of the manga there is a bonus pic of Touka pawed at by a kitty, so I am curious to see if she has alsdo has the kitty connection!
Last month we mentioned how on January 21st, multitudes of people rallied for the Women’s March, not just in Washington DC, but in the many other cities around the world! Thousands of folks wore handmade, purretty Pink knitted nekomimi hats in purrticipation with the PussyHat Project started by Jayna Zweiman and Krista Suh! Danielle Amy Staif beautifully photographed one of the hats for the photo-illustration that graced cover of Time Magazine vol. 189 #4!
Lastly but not leastly, I would like to mention the toramimi (tiger – eared girl) in the recent “Let Your Gr-r-reat Out” TV commercial for Kellogg’s Cinnamon Frosted Flakes cereal! In the commercial, Tony the Tiger sits down at the dinner table with the hungry family, which includes the peppy girl wearing the cute tiger – striped, hooded kigurumi – style costume! Nextly we would like shine the
bonus spotlight on figures, dolls & statues!
We are always pleased to see figures, dolls & statues of kemonomimi & liminal ladies in Diamond Comics Distribution’s monthly Previews catalogs, such as Diamond Select’s 6″ resin bust of Catwoman, as portrayed by Eartha Kitt in the 3rd season of the 1960’s Batman Classic TV series!
The recent catalogs have offered the delightful  DC Gallery dioramas of Catwoman and Batgirl from the animated New Batman Adventures!
I also like Rock Candy’s figure of Monster High’s Clawdeen Wolf, and Passage Trading’s figure of Amairo Islenauts Masaki Gaillard!
Passage Trading’s 1/7 scale pajama – clad figures of Infinite Stratos’s Laura and Charlotte are so adorably cute, nya!

I want… I want Good Smile’s cute Nendoroid More Koonosuke and – and Christmas Polar Bear face parts cases, nya!
I am purrticularly fond of Good Smile’s Figmas of Strike Witches: The Movie’s Yoshika Miyafugi and Mio Sakamoto wearing their Striker Units.
I also like Good Smile’s chibi – style “Nenoroid” figures of Strike Witches’s Mio, Perrine, Minna and Ilmatar!
I am tempted by Kotobukiya’s 1/7 scale statues of Marvel Comics’ Squirrel Girl, Tekken’s Lucky Chloe, and 7th Dragon III: Code VFD’s Fortuner!
Mary Nyan:
Pulchra’s 1/7 scale resin figure of High School DXD Born’s Koneko Tojo wearing the Lavendar thigh highs and strapless maillot
I like Di Molto Bene’s 7 7/8″ figure of Monster Musume’s Miia, and Flare’s 9″ nekomimi figure of Aokana Four Rhythm’s Misaki!
I will nominate FREEing’s figma of Durarara x3’s Celty Sterlson; and Alter’s figure of Tera Elin Ouka Tsukikage “Genryuu”!
There are many bunny girls too, such as Plum’s 1/7 scale figure of  Ro-Kyo-bu SS’s Mimi Balguerie in her bunny outfit! kawaii!
Belfine’s 1/7 scale PVC figures of Aria The Scarlet Ammo’s Aria and Akari; and FREEing’s 1/4 scale God Eater 2 Alisa and Ciel in their bunny outfits!
FREEing’s figure of Saekano’s Utaha Kasumigaoka in her bunny outfit, the Ultra Monster Personification Project’s figure of Ultra Zettan in her bunny outfit…
… and the 1/4 scale figures of Kill La Kill’s Ryuko Matoi, A Certain Magical Index’s index, and Arpeggio of Blue Steel’s Kongou in the bunny girl outfits, nya!
Don’t forget Pulchra’s beautiful 1/8 scale figures of Oreimo’s Ruri, Ayase and Kirino in their tights with bunny ears and tails!
Speaking of the lovely feline female figures, nyow here is Jenjen to begin
our collectibles and toy talk, with a review
Thundercats Classic Pumyra action figure!
Hai. In purrior Mews we have discussed the action figures of the female Thunderians such as Cheetara and Wileykit, so nyow I am pleased to discuss this fine faithful figure of their friend Pumayra. She is the heroic Thundarian puma girl with the compassionate medical skills, and the fierce armed and unarmed combat purrowess when she spurrings to pounce upon her enemies.
Based upon the character of the 1986 animated series, this 7″ figure of Pumyra by Mattel is handsomely package in the inner box with the clear front windowand the color illustration of her on the back. That box slides out of the 9 3/4″ 6 1/8″ X 3 1/8″ Black outer box. The included accessories are the large shuriken, the Blue orb statuette, an extra Cat’s Tail sling, and extra pair of hands.
She has the slight smile and lithe physique with large, supple, tapurred ears and the powerful firm thighs. Her Reddish – Brown almond eyes are accented by the arched brows and lush lashes with the widdle “tear stripes”. above her darker cheek markings. She has tan skin with lighter forearms and hands; and her shoulder – length Dark Brown hair has the distinctive White stripe and tips.
She is wearing the Dark Brown, short widdle dress with the slitted cut-out sides and matching panty. The asymmetric dress’s Red left shoulder strap matches her boots and Thundecats emblem. She is accessorized by the coppurry – colored choker and left arm band; the Tan pouch and the White – tipped Tan Cat’s Tail sling that is wrapped and knotted like a belt worn low upon the hips.
The figure is very posable too, with the articulation in her neck, waist, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles. A display base is not included, but she is very well – balanced to stand unassisted. I am very pleased with the scale, design, sculpt, articulation, paint and packaging of the figure, so I will give her the “A” as in Angela. “A” s is also for Arcee, so nextly i would like to discuss
the Transformers Collectors’ Club’s
“Only Human” Arcee action figure.
Our Catgirl Island Robitics Club is purrticularly fond of the Transformers animated series, comic books and toys, and I mainly collect the female characters. Arcee is my favorite, so I was especially delighted to see this exclusive human version of her which is licensed by Hasbro and available from the Transformers Collectors’ Club, and also from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club.
Arcee is a heroic Autobot warrior who first appurred in the 1986 Transformers: The Movie, which I much purrfur to the more recent live-action Transformers movies. Born on the planet Cybertron, she is a highly smart, fiercely purroficient scout and fighter. There have been various versions of her over the years, starting with the original Pink & White bot who could transform into a sports car.
In a cross-over tale with G.I. Joe,  the purrsonality sparks of Arcee, Rodimus Prime, Springer and Ultra Magnus were incorpurrated into synthoid plasma by villains Victor Drath and Old Snake, the latter believed to be an alias of Cobra Commander. The human Autobots then thwarted the villain’s plan to destroy the Metroplex, and thus I was very pleased to purrchase this fine action figure.
Packaged on the J-hook card with the beautiful art and character file card, the 4″ tall figure hais the fair skin, Blue eyes, and short Blonde coiffure. She is wearing the Pink jumpsuit with White sleeves, belt and boots; very well designed, sculpted and painted, with the meticulous details of the insignias, pouches, straps and fabric folds; and she is accessorized by two .5″ long Black pistols.
Also included is the 3 1/8″ Yellow variable swept-wing drone which can attach to her back. She does not transform, but the points of articulation are in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles. She can stand unassisted, but the Black (peg type) display base is included, which is good for the more dynamic poses. That is all for my reviews, but nyow here is Chief Meryl to discuss the
Marvel Legends Angela action figure.
We like to collect the action figures of strong, inspurrational heroines. We have recently reviewed figures of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen, Silk, Nico, Kitty, Phoenix, Rogue and Ms. Marvel, so nyow I would like to discuss the latest figure of Angela! Created by author Neil Gamin and artist Todd McFarlane, Angela first appurred as an angel / bounty hunter in Image Comics’s Spawn #9 in 1993!
Several figures of her were purrduced by McFarlane Toys. The character was later acquired by Marvel Comics, who re-introduced her in the 2013 Age of Ultron storyline. In her rebooted origin, she is revealed to be a long-lost Asgardian daughter of Odin. This Angela figure by Hasbro is the impurressively powerful sexy sight in her ornate bikini armor, skirt, gauntlets, thigh boots & weapons!
Similar in height to that of the 2015 Valkyrie and Thundra action figures, Angela is about 6 3/4″ tall, or 7″ including the uppurr tips of her purretty winged helmet. She is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy wave which also includes Starlord, Drax, Yondu, Nova (Sam Alexander), Vance Astro and Darkhawk. Each is sold sepurrately, and includes a piece needed to build the figure of Titus.
She is well – designed, sculpted and painted with the intricate details of her serious expurression, lush waist – length Orange-Red hair, solid White eyes, Burgundy lips and facial markings, Amber tassels, bra and boots, Amber and Pewter colored armor, Pewter – colored gauntlests with Red trim, Black gloves and panty, the flowy ankle – length White rear skirt, Brown belt and scabbard!
She has the 3 7/8″ long sword which will fit in the scabbard or either hand, and two Kama-like axes with the 1 3/4″ blades and 1″ grips which will fit in either hand. She is very posable with the articulation in her neck, abs, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. A display base is not included, but she can stand unassisted! Nextly I would like to say the bit about
Funko’s Suicide Squad Katana action figure!
Tatsu Yamashiro alias Katana is a widowed samurai / supurr heroine who first appurred in DC Comics’ Brave and the Bold i#200 in 1983. She is an expurrt martial artist & assassin armed with the Soul Taker katana which extracts her victims’ souls. She was a member of the Outsiders team, but nyow she is a member of the Suicide Squad.
A younger student version of her appurrs in the DC Super Hero Girls comics and animated movie in which she was voiced by Stephanie Sheh. In last year’s live-action Suicide Squad movie, she was purrtrayed by Karen Fukuhara, who our friend ob1 met at last year’s Chiller Theatre Expo!  He brought us an autographed photo from her!
In October we reviewed Mattel’s 12″ Katana doll, in December’s Mew we reviewed the DC Multiverse 6″ Katana action figure, and nyow I would like to discuss Funko’s 3 3/4″ action figure of her! We are not sure of the scale, but in the comics she is 5′ 2″ tall, so this figure might be 1/17 scale. That is excluding the thickness of her boot soles.
I think that she is nicely designed, sculpted and painted! The details are meticulous, from the strands of her short coiffure, the serious expression with the piercing stare and the widdle scar upon the mask’s cheek, to the Black leather jacket and pants ‘ fabric folds and creases, and the Brown boots’ Silver grommets and knotted Black laces!
The attire has purrrcise Gold kanji, emblems and zippurrs with matching studs in the fingerless gloves; her taut bare abs are framed by the cropped White shirt and Red sash; matching the shirt is an arm band, and matching the sash is the knotted, mid-calf length ribon-musube obi that loops around her shoulders to hang down her back!
She has no wakizashi or scabbard, but the 2 7/16″ Soul Taker easily fits in either hand. The well-concealed articulation is in her neck, hips, shoulders, elbows and knees. There is no display base, but she is well-balanced to stand unassisted, and I am very pleased with this figure! That is all for the toy talk  so nyow here is B.B. to begin our
movie, TV & DVD reviews, with her review of
Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio!
Hai! We love Doctor Who, so we were  eager to see last year’s Christmas Special “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” which starred Peter Capaldi as The Doctor, Matt Lucas as his companion Nardole who was introduced in the 2015 Christmas Special “The Husbands of River Song”, Charity Wakefield as Lucy the journalist, and Justin Chatwin as Grant, alias the supurr hero known as The Ghost!
They investigate an international company in Manhattan, which is controlled by evil alien brains that crave human bodies to host as purrt of their plan to conquer the Earth! Tomiwa Edun purrtays the villain Mr. Brock and Aleksander Jovanovik purrtays the villain Dr. Sim, who are akin to the villains whose heads zipped open on the space cruise ship in “The Husbands of River Song”!
Doctor Mysterio is Grant’s nickname for The Doctor. The tale is thrilling, amewsing, charming, romantic, and poignant, with the supurr hero and invasion plot! There are dandy comic book homages, references to other Doctor Who characters, and it reminds me of his 1973 – 1974 tales, when he met the lady reporter whilst snooping at the suspicious institute! The U.N.I.T. team is there too!
The 63 minute tale was written by Steven Moffat, directed by Ed Bazelgette, purrduced by Peter Bennett, executively purrduced by Brian Minchin and Steven Moffat. I think that every aspect is excellent from the plot, dialogue, mythology, design, direction, purrformances, the hair & make-up to the costumes, stunts, purrops, sets, cinematography, editing, mewsic, sounds and FX!
It was shown on BBC America on December 25th, and last month it was released on DVD! On the Region 1 NTSC DVD, it is purrsented in the 16:9 anamorphic widescreen format, in the English language, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, with the optional White, bold, English SDH subtitles. Purrior to the end credits is the widdle sneak peek at Doctor Who’s forthcoming 10th season!
Purrior to the DVD’s main menu are the purreview trailers for Sherlock season 4 and Planet Earth 2. Narrated by Charity Wakefield, the DVD’s entertaining and informative two special features include the 7.3 minute “A New Kind of Hero” discussion about The Doctor by Moffat, Capaldi, Wakefield, Chatwin and Edun.
The other special feature is the 26 minute Doctor Who Extra documentary about the making of The Return of Doctor Mysterio”! It has quite the few fun moments and comments by Moffat, Capaldi, Wakefield, Chatwin, Edun, Lucas, Bazelgette and costume designer Hayley Nebauer! Nextly I would like to discuss the
Riverdale TV series!
On January 26, the live – action TV series Riverdale purremiered upon the CW network! It is a darker, mysterious version of the Archie Comics. The purreviews commercials did not grab me, but I think that the CW network has yet another very  good TV show based on comic books, with a purrfectly inspired cast amidst the great sets and locations with the high purroduction values!
The inspired, faithful cast includes Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Madchen Amick as her mom, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Marisol Nichols as her mom, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Nathalie Boltt as her mom, Shannon Purser as Ethyl Muggs, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Martin Cummins as his sheriff dad, K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, and Luke Perry as his dad!
I am purrticularly happy with the latest incarnation of  Josie and the Pussycats! Wearing the costume cat ears, vocalist / bassist Valerie Brown is purrtrayed by Irie Hayleau, purrcussionist Melody Valentine is purrtrayed by Asha Bromfield, and vocalist / guitarist Josie McCoy is purrtrayed by Ashleigh Murray. I hope there will be a mewsic CD! Josie’s mayor mom is purrtrayed by Robin Givens and Valerie’s brother Trev is purrtrayed by Adain Bradley!
Moose, Dilton, Chuck, Miss Grundy, Mr. Weatherby, Pop Tate, Smithers, and Archie’s dog Vegas are among the characters, and I hope that we will see Sabrina! The show’s head writer is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is the comics’ Chief Creative Officer, who knows & respects the comics whilst making a serious, mysterious adaptation!
The plot unfolds at the good pace for the character developments, murder mystery, family secrets, and dark drama afoot, with the fine cinematography and mewsic! Jughead has been doing some detective work, It’s neat to see Betty as a journalist for the school mewspapurr, when she teams up with Veronica to snoop for clues and justice!
There have been poignant bits for Ethyl, Dilton’s cryptic warnings of a dire situation, disturbing stuff for Cheryl, and the surpurrises from Miss Grundy! I will give Riverdale an “A” as in Archie, and as in my anticipation for the next epurrsodes! Nyow for a review of another tale based upon the comics, here is Nyo-sensei to tell us about
Justice League Dark!
Arigato! I enjoy the DC animated movies and TV shows, and I am always on the purrowl for tales of heroic mages, so I was eager to see this OAV which is based upon the DC’s Justice League Dark comics! The plot purrtains to the outbreak of evil sorcery – induced murders and suicides which are investigated by Batman Zatanna, Constantine, Deadman, Jason Blood and Etrigan!
Along the way they are aided by Swamp Thing, Black Orchid, Merlin and The House of Mystery, with brief appurrances by Wonder Woman, Superman and John Stewart, as they fight villains such as Felix Faust, Destiny and The Demons Three! There is much combat, magick and detective work, but it is rated R and thus not for the widdle kitties due to the violence and disturbing scenes.
Directed by Jay Olivia and edited by Christopher D. Lozinski with mewsic by Robert J. Kral, the teleplay is by Ernie Altbacker who wrote the story with J.M. DeMatteis. It was line purrduced Amy McKenna, supurrvisingly purrduced by James Tucker, executively purrduced by Sam Register, co-executively purrduced byMichael Uslan & Benjamin Melniker, and co-purrduced by Alan Burnett.
Wes Gleason was the voice director for the great voice cast of Jason O’Mara as Batman, Camilla Luddington as Zatanna, Matt Ryan as Constantine, Nicholas Turturo as Deadman, Ray Chase as Jason Blood and Etrigan, Colleen O’Shaunnessey as Orchid, Alfred Molina as Destiny, Enrico Colantoni as Felix Faust, Jeremy Davies as Ritchie, J.B. Blanc as Merlin and the demon Abnagazar…
… Roger R. Cross as Swamp Thing and John Stewart, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Jerry O’Connell as Superman, Jeffrey Vincent Parise as the demon Rast, and Fred Tatascione as the demon Ghast! There are also brief cameos by The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Hawkman, The Martian Manhunter, Rama Kushna, The Batmobile, Wayne Manor and The Hall of Justice.
The single Region One NTSC standard DVD disk is inside the standard plastic case with no inserts or booklets. The 76 minute movie is purrsented in the widescreen format in Dolby 5.1 audio with the spoken language choices of English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Thai, with the optional subtitles in English SDH, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese and Thai.
The DVD is sparse in special features, with just the 11.5 minute sneak peek at the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract OVA. There is a purreview trailer for the forthcoming Wonder Woman movie, trailers for the purrior animated movies Justice League: Doom, Justice league: Gods & Monsters, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, and an advertisement for the DC All Access App.
I noticed that the Blu-Ray edition has more special features, and there is a boxed set which includes a Constantine figure. I think that it is a very captivating, thrilling movie, but some of the scenes are quite shocking, purrticularly the tragic deaths caused by victims of hallucinations. I thought that the industrial type of mewsic score was too jarring, but that is just my purrsonal taste.
I do wish I that the audio could be played backwards, so that I could translate Zatanna’s powerful incantations! Nyow here is my sister to tell us about another recent movie purrtaining to the supurr heroes who fight the demons-
Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back!
Hai! I love action movies, especially of the martial arts fantasy genre, so me and my dojo students were eager to see this’un A sequel to Journey to the West, this comedic Chinese wuxia adventure film was written & purrduced by Stephen Chow & director / editor Tsui Hark, who are are such legendary filmmakers!
Stephen  Chow’s many great credits include God of Cookery, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, and The Mermaid; and Tsui Hark’s many credits include A Chinese Ghost Story, A Better Tomorrow, Zu Warriors from Magic Mountain, and Detective Dee and the Phantom Flame! Nyow for the widdle taste of the plot!
After a wild dream sequence,Tang the monk and his disciples Sun, Sha and Zhu trash a circus, and then continue upon their travels and demon fighting. This includes spectacular battles with spider girls at a temple, and a flaming sharp metal demon at a palace, where romance blooms betwixt Tang and a courtesan named Felicty!
Meanwhile the angry tensions peak betwixt Tang and Sun the Monkey King, who berserker rages upon Felicity’s village. Thusly Tang, Sha and Zhu have to fight Sun atop the mountains, as the battle & plot twists escalate to the epic, almost cosmic scale, with supurr battles that are seldom seen outside of supurr hero comics & anime!
The stunts, choreography & FX are astounding, The plot had the good mix of the humor, action, drama, romance, mythology! The purrformances, costumes, make-up, cinematography, editing, sets, locations, mewsic & sound are magnificent too! I was glad that it was screened in the original Chinese spoken language with English subtitles!
Make sure to linger for the post-credits scene! The movie is in 2D & 3D versions. I mewsually do not get excited about movies in 3D, but it was totally worth it!, so I will give Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back the very high purraise! Nyow for another taste of heroes in the amewsing melee with monsters, here is Chief Ellie to discuss
Yoga Hosers!
Arigato! I like most of Kevin Smith’s movies such as Clerks, Clerks 2, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy and Dogma, so I was eager to see Yoga Hosers which is a spin off of his Tusk movie! Written, directed & edited by Smith, it is a humorous horror movie about The Colleens who are two 15 year old best friends, high school sophomores, yoga practitioners, aspiring mewsicians and convenience store clerks in Winnipeg, Canada!
One night at work after school, they have to fend off two senior students who are satanists prowling for sacrificial victims, when about two dozen widdle Bratzis attack! The Bratzi’s are 1 ft tall  sour kraut -blooded clones made of Bratwurst, who serve the cryogenically unfrozen villain Adronicus Arcane, an escaped  World War Two Nazi scientist / artist whose secret lair is under the store! Thus the fierce yoga fights will result!
The movie stars Lily-Rose Depp Colleen Collette, her dad Johnny Depp as detective Guy Lapointe, Harley Quinn-Smith as Colleen McKenzie, her dad Kevin Smith as the Bratzis, and Kevin’s podcast partner Ralph Garman as Arcane! I think that the Harley and Lily-Rose are great, and I liked Garman’s amusing impersonations of actors Adam West, Al Pacino, Sylester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ed Wynn!
Also appearing are Austin Butler and Tyler Posey as the seniors, Justin Long is the girls’ yoga master, Adam Brody is the girls’ drummer, Vanessa Paradise as the history teacher, Sasheer Zamata as the principal, Genesis Rodriguez as the P.E. teacher, Jennifer Schwalbach as Colleen M.’s mom, Tony Hale as Colleen C.’s dad, and Natasha Lyonne as his girlfriend, with cameos by Stan Lee, Jason Mewes and Kevin Conroy!
Compared to Kevin Smith’s prior films, my favorites are Clerks, Clerks 2, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy and Dogma. Below those are Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Zach and Miri Make a Porno, and Jersey Girl. I have not seen Cop Out or Red State, so I have no opinion of those. I thought that Yoga Hosers got too silly, and I would have preferred more slice – of – life scenes for the Colleens, but I did enjoy it much more than Tusk.
The R1 NTSC DVD is inside the plastic case, with the instruction sheet for how to get a digital copy of this PG-13 rated, 88 minute movie, which is purrsented in the widescreen format in English audio with optional English subtitles. The DVD has trailers for Yoga Hosers, Just Jim, Plan Z, Deserted, Lace Crater; and the only special feature is the 7.5 minute behind-the-scenes featurette. So, what are some of the
forthcoming movies of 2017 that interest us?
I hope to see Wonder Woman and Teen Titans: The Judas Contact!
I hope that Power Rangers and Ghost in the Shell will be good!
Oh, how about Logan, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Mary Nyan:
The Dark Tower… and… Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets!
We also have to go see Lala Land, Trainspotting 2 and Baby Driver, nya!
I am interested in Cooking up a Storm and The Fate of the Furious!
I am purrticularly interested in Blade Runner 2049 and Alien: Covenant!

I want… I want to see Cars 3, and – and My Little Pony: The Movie, nya!
I also want to see the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, nya!
I hope to see see the anime such as PriPara, and Yuki Yuna is a Hero!
I want to see those, Pretty Rhythm, and Mary and the Witch’s Flower!
Seitokai Yakuindomo, Haikara-san, and Kamisama Minara, fur shur!
I am also looking forward to Dunkirk and Murder on the Orient Express!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Don’t forget Kong: Skull Island and War for the Planet of the Apes!
Ah, that’ll do it for our movie topics, but now here’s Myayr to begin our
comic book & manga mewsings, with
her review of Spirits & Cat Ears vol. 1!
Mary Nyan
As a semi – retired miko, I admit that I am purrticular fond of the tales of heroic kemonomimis and purriestesses, so I was rather anticipating volume 1 of the Spirits & Cat Ears manga which was written & drawn by by Miyuki Nakayama! It was originally published By kadokawa in 2014, and this English translated version was published by Yen Press last month!
Yen has published many other titles we like such as Spice & Wolf, Omamori Himari, Sunshine Sketch, GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class, K-On and School-Live! It was translated by Leigham Harvey, lettered by Rochelle Gancio, purriced $13.00 USA & $17.00 Canada. It has 218 pages including the 211 Black & White manga chapters 1-4 and 10 color pages of art.
The main character Neneneko Iizuna is a petite 15 year old nekomimi with the fair skin, Red eyes, short Platinum Blond hair and the lovely kitty ears, but she is very shy, lonely, worrisome and lacking in the self – confidence. She is possessed by a Kuda fox spurrit, which is said to be a harbinger of bad events, and for several years she has lived as a shut-in.
Nyow she is taking the wise, brave steps to impurrove her life, by attend a new high school and moving into the lovely Waka Clinic and residence along with her familiar Shichikage Shgame, where she will hopefully make friends and train as an exorcist with other purriestesses and their familiars! She hopes that this change will eventually help to shed the Kuda!
The other main character are purriestess Miya Sounoichi and her familiar Shingetsu, purriestess Meme Tamayori and her familiar Enishi Mugami, the clinic‘s purropurrietor Yukari Waka and her familiar Mirai Omogani. The Familiars are mewsually in the human forms, but can assume other forms, and are vital in helping the purriestess to channel the powers.
However, each of them have quirks, especially Shichikage. He has great power with magickal chains, the occasional wise advice, and the excellent sewing skills that result in purretty clothes for Neneneko who he claims to be in love with, but he can be manipulative, dishonest and purrvy with abandonment issues and his desire to literally keep her on the leash!
In spite of those issues, the change in lifestyle seems to be very healthy for Neneneko, because it is a very nice place to live, where she has already made new friends and has already impurroved her powers! The cute widdle ceremonial Red ribbon ring upon her finger has gone from just one knot to two knots, with the ultimate goal of four knots like Waka-sensei!
However, it is the dangerous path, because not only do the purriestesses try to memorialize the deceased, but they have to fight and exorcise the troublesome evil leftovers, who can be quite powerful and harmful! While Neneneko and Meme investigate a school haunting, they encounter a mysterious unkown purriestess, who seems to be watching the clinic!
The tale is rated for the older teen readers due to the language, violence, sexuality and nudity. There are the few brief lewd moments, disturbing behaviors and dangerous spooky encounters, but the brief nudity is just amidst the communal baths. There are numerous charming moments aplenty, and Neneneko is already braver, stronger, happier and more social!
We hope that she will be purrouder of her ears and not fear to show them, whilst I hope that Shichikage will lose the leash! The art is beautifully intricate from the characters & clothes to the scenery & supurrnatural FX! Neneneko has about a dozen outfits, and there are sumptuous scenes of delicious, nutritious foods too, which might induce the grilled fish cravings!
Betwixt the manga and the few pages of ads are the several pages of bonus comments, strips, cute illustrations by Nakayama and the few guest artists, plus the purreview for volume 2 which I am looking forward to! Nyow for more tales of the heroes with the lovely kitty ears, here is Vonny to tell us about
Hero Cats of Stellar City #15!
Arigato, nya! The Hero Cats are among the purrotectors of their town of Stellar City, and the team is compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Rocket the Tabby, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat, nya! Cassiopeia has a brother named Bandit the tuxedo cat who is away on a sepurrate mission, nya!
Her owners are the supurr heroes Galaxy Man and his daughter Cosmic Girl are unaware of the cats’ heroic adventures, nya! At the 2014 Heroes Convention in Charlotte, we got a sketch of Cassiopeia by Marcus Williams, nya! Published by Action Lab Comics, issue #15 is purriced $3.99 and rated “E” for everyone, nya!
The 28 page issue includes 3 tales & fun extra bits followed by 3 ads, with the beautiful cover graced by Cassiopeia, Rocket, Rocco and Kjarl the space monster, nya! The first tale is “The Secret Orgin of Rocco” written by Hero Cats’ creator Kyle Puttkammer, pencilled by Peter Cutler, inked by Ryan Sellers, colored by Sigi Ironmonnger and lettered by George Gant, nya!
It is the tale of younger kitten Rocco and his dad aboard the fishing boat, until Rocco got seasick and moved to Stellar City where he became the tough gym cat!, nya!  This segues to the tale of “Rocket’s First Launch” by Kyle, Peter Cutler, Ryan, Sigi & George Gant, nya! It is the origin of Rocket who lived with his purrents and the astronauts on a space station!, nya!
The station was captured by Silverbeard the space pirate, so Rocket’s mom put him in the escape pod which landed near Stellar City, where Rocco befriended the lonely, scared, hungry widdle Rocket, nya. After that is the tale of the “Intergalactic Intrigue” written by by Kyle, pencilled by Kyle & Andrea Puttkamer, inked by Darah Elkins, colored & lettered by George, nya!
It stars Cassiopeia, Rocco, Rocket, Cosmic Girl and her new friend Nuclear Nellie, nya! They have the fun adventure in Nellie’s space ship when they meet  Kjarl, who has been searching for Cosmic Girl’s missing astronaut mom Amelia. They find her abandoned space ship on Mars, so we will hope that she is still alive, and cross our tales for her good luck, nya!
After that is Kyle’s cordial message to the readers which has a cute pic of the cats as younger widdle kittens – kawaii, nya! Then there is Dan Morton’s purretty pic of Nuclear Nellie; and the purreview page for the next issue’s tale of “Her Cats of Skyworld” featuring the return of bandit!, nya! This was such an entertaining, informative, beautiful and poignant issue, nya!
The characters, mecha, FX, scenery, and the fonts are all very exquisitely rendered with the excellent dialogue at the good pace, and the tales are not interrupted by the ads, so I will give this issue the high purraise grade of an “A” as in Ace, nya! Nyow here is Tara-chan to start our pony report with her review of
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #50, nya!
Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony TV animations, toys, cards and – and the pony comic books that have been published by IDW, nya! We have even cosplayed as the Pony Equestia Girls for Halloween, nya! In this story arc of the Friendship is Magic comics, Discord transformed into Accord in order to instill order instead of chaos, nya!
Unfortunately this resulted in him controlling the pony minds to remove their free will, nya! This chapter concludes the tale in issue #50, which is purriced at $5.99, with the 20 page tale followed by the 10 page back-up tale and the 10 pages of ads, nya. The issue is available in the choice of 4 different covers: 2 by Andy Price, 1 by Sara Richard, and – and the wraparound variant, nya!
The Accord conclusion was written by Ted Anderson, illustrated by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and published by Ted Adams, nya. Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Celestia, Luna, Spike and – and many more citizens of Canterlot and – and Ponyville have been mind controlled, nya!
Soon Mayor Mare, Big Macintosh, Granny Smith and- and Zecora are controlled too, as the Elements of Harmony fall to Accord, and thus ironically it is Starlight Glimmer who makes the last stand to sway him, nya! I will not divulge more of the exciting plot, but I thought it was the beautiful conclusion to the great tale, with the many “easter eggs” and – and the background ponies to identify, nya!
The final page is the purrticularly im[purressive full-page pic of the many characters, nya! The back-up tale of “For the Pony who has Everything” is another Discord tale that was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Jay Fosgitt, colored by Heather, lettered by Neil, edited by Bobby, published by Ted, and – and pairs up Celestia with Discord, who gives her the magickal birthday purresent, nya!
It transforms her into the regular widdle pegasus without the royal duties for just one day, nya! Discord becomes the pony too, nya! Also appuring in the lovely, charming, whimsical tale Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and – and her bear friend, so will give it an “A” as in Accord, nya! Nextly I would like to discuss the story that Jeremy wrote for
My Little Pony: Friends Forever #37, nya!
The Friends Forever series focuses on different teams of characters, nya! For examples, in issue #32 Fluttershy teamed up with Daring Do, in issue #33 Applejack visited Cherry Jubilee, in issue #34 Pinkie Pie was reunited Cheese Sandwich, #35 paired Twilight with Starlight, in #36 in Rainbow Dash teamed up with Soarin’, and – and the stars of issue #37 are Rarity and- and Trixie, nya!
They are in the big city of Manehattan to help Sapphire Shores with her concert, which is expurriencing the purroblems at Madison Mare Garden, nya! Also appurring are Sweetie Belle and –  and Babs Seed in this uninterrupted tale that was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil, edited by Bobby, and – and published by Ted, nya!
The regular cover’s art is by Tony Fleecs, the subscription cover ‘s art is by Agnes, and – and the retailer incentive cover’s art by Melody Often, nya! It was the tough decision, because all of the pony artists in the IDW stable are supurrb, but I picked the cover by Agnes, nya. I am purrticularly fond of her style and – and techniques for the purretty pony poses, expurressions and – and panels, nya!
It is the happy reunion for Sweetlie Belle and – and Babs Seed, who se characters have developed greatly since their first appurrances, nya! They have also got their Cutie Marcks since the last time they were together, nya! So, while they are having the other fun plans for the weekend, Rarity purroceeds to Madison Mare Garden, which has most purrestigious big concert stage, nya!
They are having the many difficulties in purrparing for the extravagant concert, which requires the spectacular costumes, dancers, lighting, flowers and – and special FX, nya! Rarity is the costume designer, but she is initially leery about working with Trixie who is the FX supurrvisor, but Trixie has also developed greatly, with the repentant  apologies for her earlier naughtier days, nya!
I think that the plot, pace, dialogue, poses. expurressions, colors, shading, scenery, fashions, FX and – and fonts are purrfect in both of those pony comics, which so supurrbly convey the style and – and the spurrit of the animated series, so I will give them both an “A” as in Applebuck, nya! That is all for my pony report, but nyow here is Becca to tell us about yet another tale that Jeremy wrote-
The Unstoppable Wasp #2, nya!
Hai hai! This is one of our new favorite comics! The tale stars Nadia Pym, the orphaned Hungarian genius daughter of Hank (Ant Man) & Maria Pym who was trained in a secret Russian research facility, where she invented her own Wasp costume and escaped!  As the latest heroine alias The Wasp, she is so peppy, ingenious, heroic, and stylish with the lovely accent and the cute house in suburban Cresskill, NJ!
Whilst learning more about different cultures & cuisine, she is waiting for her American citizenship to be finalized. She is determined to impress the other supurr heroines who have inspired her, whilst starting the G.I.R.L. (Genius in Action Research Labs) group for the genius heroines who might impurrove the world! In issue #1 she teamed up with  Ms. Marvel and Mockingbird to battle
a villain’s giant robot!
Published by Marvel, rated “T+” and purriced at $3.99, issue #2 has the 20 page tale plus the  recap / credits page, the purreview page for issue #3,  the Agents of G.I.R.L. page in which Nadia intermews two purrofessoras, and the 5 pages of the ads. The tale was written by Jeremy Whitley, whose Princeless and My Little Pony tales we greatly admire! We have met him at several comic book conventions too!
It was illustrated by Elsa Charretier, colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Joe Caramanga, edited by Alena Smith and Tom Brevoort, with the main cover art by Nicolas Bannister and Elsa, and the variant cover art by Tony Fleecs, whose pony art we are a big fan of! This time she is chapurroned by Edwin Jarvis who is The Avengers’ butler, to recruit geniuses Lunella Lafayette, Alexis & Tania Miranda to her group!
Nadia’s home is cluttered with so many wonderful gadgets and her dad’s purrojects, and she has such cute outfits too! The Mirandas are enthused about the purrospect of well –  stocked and funded work with Nadia, but when Jarvis chauffeurs her to Yancy Street in Manhattan, she and Lunella have to fight a giant rat! It is the icky battle, but I should not spoil much more of the plot,
The fun, optimistic and beautiful tale of the strongly written, strong, smart heroines is peppurred by “Nadia’s Neat Science Facts”, and topped off by the widdle intermew with biomolecular engineer Jin Kim Montclare and analytical chemistry puroffessor Raychelle Burkes, PHD! I will give this issue an “A” as in Ant Man! Nyow for another Marvel-ous supurr heroine, I would like to discuss
Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! #15!
Hai! Patsy is one of our favorite supurr heroines, and her series has been one of our favorite comics of the past year during which she started a hero job agency and became roommates with Ian who dates Tom whose bookstore sells the Patsy Walker comic books that were authored by her estranged mom.
Whilst Patsy’s best friend Jennifer Waliters, A.K.A. She-Hulk has been comatose, Jubilee has been helping at the office, where they have been training the former villain Bailey, A.K.A. Attache, but they were stalked by The Black Cat gang led by Felicia Hardy, who used magickal claws to control her victims’ minds!
Felicia was thwarted and the friends were freed, but Patsy caught the magickal cold with the cat-astrophic side effects whenever she sneezes! That brings us to issue #15, which is purriced at $3.99 and includes the 20 page tale, the recap / credits page, the next issue purreview page and the 6 pages of the ads.
The tale was written by Kate Leth, illustrated by Brittney Williams, lettered by Clayton Cowles, colored by Rachelle Rosenberg, edited by Jake Thomas, assistantly edited by Kathleen Wisneski and executively edited by Tom Brevoort! The amewsing front cover art is by Elsa Charretier and Tamra Bonvillin!
It begins with the well-attended holiday party of the mixed Christmas, Mew Year and Valentine motif at the agency’s office, where all is merry until Patsy’s sorcerous sneezes cause unpurrdictable telepurrtations and transformations, such as altering Ian and Bailey’s clothes into Luke Cage and Valkyrie costumes!
Jubilee, Bailey, and Sharon the landlord sequester Patsy in another room, but further sneezes cause her tiger plushy to enlarge and chase them, turn into a bee, summon her supurr hero friend America, alter her attire, shrink Jubilee to the chibi size and later to the giant size, with purroperty damages aplenty!
I love the anime- inspired style, including the supurrb poses, expurressions, fashions, FX, colors & shading! In addition to the hero costumes, there are several cute outfits too, such as Patsy’s Santa kitty shirt, Jubilee’s cropped top, and America’s pajamas! I will give this issue an “A” as in Patsy’s friend Aragon!
I should also mention that HelCat appurrs in 3 pages of Hulk #3, for an unexpectedly awkward reunion with the awakened Jennifer! Furthermore, HellCat graces one of the many variant covers of U.S.Avengers #1! Tigra and White Tiger have covers too! I am done, so nyow here is Bunnibuns to tell us about —
Goldie Vance #9!
Arigato! 16 year old Marigold “Goldie” Vance is a peppy, brave, smart, inquisitive, aspiring detective girl of color in the mid 1960’s who assists Walter the detective at the Crossed Palms Resort in St. Pascal, Florida, when she is not valet parking the guests’ cars with her friend Rob, who wants to date Cheryl the resort’s concierge who aspires to be an astronaut!
Goldie’s mom Sylvie is an underwater performer at a mermaid – themed supper club, and she is separated from Goldie’s dad, who is the manager of the resort, which is owned by the wealthy Mr. Maple, whose daughter Sugar does not get along with Goldie, but Skunk the street racer seems interest edin those ladies, who are both rather fond of fine fast cars!
The lovely early 60’s cars, coiffures and couture amidst the south Florida scenery during the space – race era are so lovely! Some other recurring characters have included Walter’s girl friend FBI agent Ladner, Cheryl’s friend Millie the pageant winner and astronaut trainee, and Millie’s mom the fashion designer and boutique owner who got flirty with Walter!
One of my favorite characters is Goldie’s friend Diane who works at the record store! Initially a 4 issue mini – series, this ongoing series is published by Boom! Box who also publishes Lumberjanes! The 1st story arc pertained to a mysterious lodger’s medallion & Russian spies; whilst the 2nd story arc purrtained to Millie’s strange behavior & undersea mystery!
Those were written by the Ignatz & Eisner awards – winner Hope Larson who has authored Chiggers, Salamander Dream, Gray Horses, and the graphic novel adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time! It was illustrated by Brittney, colored by Sarah Stern, lettered by Jim Campbell, edited by Dafna Plebon & Shannon Watters with the issues’ design by Jillian Crab!
That brings us up to Issue #9, which has the 28 pages including the uninterrupted 22 page tale followed by 5 pages of ads and editor Shannon Watter’s cordial editorial page with the cute widdle doodles by Lauren Zuke! It starts the new story arc written by Hope Larson & Jackie Ball, illustrated by Noah Hayes, colored by Sarah Stern, lettered by Jim Campbell…
… edited by Dafna Plebon & Shannon, and assoociately edited by Sophie Phillips-Roberts, with the with the design by Jillian Crab, and the wraparound cover by Kat Leyh, which depicts Goldie, Gina & Sugar ready for the auto race! One night on the way to her dad’s house after meeting Gina at a diner, Goldie is struck by a hit-and-run motorist who wrecks her bicycle.
Affectionally named Big Blue, the bike was poor Goldie’s only vehicle. Her dad tries to cheer her up, but the next day the mood is worsened when Sugar and other rich racing kids arrive at the resort. However things perk up when Sugar wants to hire Goldie to investigate the sabotage of her race car, offers to buy her a car in return, and has a street race with Skunk!
Gina, Cheryl and Rob briefly appear in the tale; we learn the bit more about Sugar’s family, and she asks Goldie to join her P1 race car pit crew! It seems like Goldie’s fortunes are finally improving!
This was a wonderful issue with the great dialogue and fascinating developments at the good pace, and I love the manga inspired art style with the cel-type shading!
The characters are terrifically expressive & posed with pretty styles, such as Sugar’s Pink & White attire! The use of color & light is richly vibrant with great graphic FX and font attributes! The racing flashback scenes are also very well depicted, in Black & White within the panoramic panels, and I will continue to give Goldie Vance the grade of an “A” as in astronaut!
I am eagerly awaiting the next issue, and I hope that we will eventually get to see Goldie wear a pretty Orange mermaid tail at her mom’s club, which she promised to do in exchange for her mom’s help in issue #7! Now we will go from the tale of the early 1960’s Floridan detective girl to the tale of the contemporary Californian slayer girl, as Lizzy tells us about
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 11 #3!
Arigato! We have greatly enjoyed Dark Horse Comics’s Buffy seasons 8-10, Angel seasons 9 & 10 and the Fray mini series! Season 11 has thusly far been off to the very entertaining yet alarming start, because after a monstrous disaster, things have worsened due to racist anarchists, and the oppurressive government, which has diminished civil rights and brought back internment camps.
Executively purrduced by Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon, issue #3 is purriced $3.99 and has the 22 page tale plus the 6 pages of ads. I do the tale was not interrupted by the ads, but I suppose they are the comics’ equivalent to the TV commercial breaks “Part 3: A House Divided” was scripted by Christos Gage, illustrated by Rebekah Isaacs, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt!
It was colored by Dan Jackson, edited by Freddye Miller and assistantly edited by Kevin Baurkhalter; the issue’s graphic designer was Justin Couch, the digital art technician was Christianne Goudreau and Mike Richardson is the publisher at Dark Horse! The issue’s main cover art is by Steve Morris, and the variant “deleted scene” cover art is by Rebekah, Dan, Christos & Comicraft.
Purreviously, Andrew decided to leave the country, when the government decided to register all magickal people in the country. Buffy, Willow & Spike fought the hate mobs, whilst the government tried to coerce Buffy & Willow into thuggish servitude. This issue picks up with more of the distopian injustice, as Dawn & Xander observe the deputized slayer Jordan arrest a non-human purrson.
Meanwhile a couple of criminal demons make the mistake of trying to double-cross Buffy & Giles! Since Giles is a kid, he has to go back to school – not as a teacher but as an 8th grade student! Spike’s police badge has been revoked, and he is ordered to the camps. Willow considers taking the government job offer, just so that she can be hopefully an influential friend on the inside.
Just as they are discussing these plans, things continue to worsen when Jordan and her purress gang arrive to nab Willow and Spike, but not before Buffy and friends put up the fight! However,
Spike very nobly offers to surrender lest others get hurt. Sadly after the street fight, we see Buffy and Spike huddled in the back of the bus on their way to the internment camp in the desert..
Amidst the thrilling melee, the dire political situation, and the dismal purrospects of history repeating its mistakes, purrhaps the most amewsing moment of issue #3 is the variant cover’s “deleted scene” of Buffy & Willow taking Giles to the boys depurrtment at the clothing store! The “deleted scene” for #4’s variant cover depicts Buffy aghast at the camp’s unappurrtizing cafeteria food!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 11 #4!
Nourishment is a major plot point of issue #4, when the blood rations run low for the vampire & demon purrisoners, and Buffy finds herself upon Spike’s menu! issue #4 is purriced $3.99 and has the 22 page tale plus the 2 pages of  the Freddye and the readers’ comments, and the 4 pages of ads. “Part 4: A House Divided” has mostly the same creative team / credits as issue #3…
… except that the tale was pencilled by Georges Jeanty and inked by Dexter Vines; and that variant cover was conjured by Georges, Dexter, Christos, Dan and Comicraft! Georges and Dexter are such supurrb, friendly artists who used to draw and ink the Buffy comics for several years, and we have met them the few times at the annual Heroes Convention on the mainland in Charlotte!
It begins on the startling yet poignant scene as Buffy consensually offering her neck for Spike to chomp, because he has gotten weaker in the camp due to the very meager rations. of course the blood loss makes Buffy weaker, but they trust and care for each other amidst the miserable, oppurressive, violent conditions, whilst Willow briefly visits them and her interred Witchy friend Calliope.
Buffy has been trying to defend the weaker purrisoners and wins another fight against demonic bullies. Another week goes by, and as Buffy briefly chats by phone with Dawn, yet another purrison yard fight erupts, This time the weakened, hungry Buffy and Spike take on five demons, and it is during the daylight when Spike it not at his vampurric best, but I should not further spoil the plot!
As mewsual there are the developments, great dialogue and action plenty, with the great portraitures, expurressions, poses, clothing, scenery, FX, colors, fonts and the narrative across the panelst, so I will give those issues an A as in Angel, although I am not sure as to when they occur compurred Angel Season 11. Nyow for more of Dark Horse goodness, here is Mie-sensei to discuss
Elfquest: The FInal Quest #18!
Arigato! So like, since the late 1970’s I have loved Wendy and Richard Pini’s totally awesome Elfquest tales because of it’s lavish mythology, the generations of many great characters, and Wendy’s stunningly beautiful art, fur shur! For the past 3 years, The Final Quest has full of major developments, unfortunately including the rise of the warmongering Djunslander humans’ army which hopes to conquer the world!
So like, now we are up to issue #18, although it might be considered the 19th issue, if you include the precursory 2013 Special issue! Perfectly published by Dark Horse Comics, this 28 page issue is priced at $3.99 (in the USA) and consists of the uninterrupted (yay!) 24 page tale, which is followed by 2 pages of comments by the readers, Wendy and Richard, and the 2 page peek at some of Wendy’s aweesome comics page layout sketches!
It was wonderfully written by Wendy and Richard, superbly scripted and illustrated by Wendy, sumptuously colored by Sonny Strait, lavishly lettered by Nate Piekos, excellently edited by Spencer Cushing and awesomely assistantly edited by Kevin Burkhalter, with great graphic design by Sarah Terry and delightful digital artistry by Allyson Haller, fur shur! Most of this issue’s action occurs amidst the tunnels, beneath the Frozen Mountains!
As Two Edge the half – elf / half – troll blacksmith leads elves Chief Cutter, Skywise, Leetah, Nightfall, Redlance and Ahdri past the subterranean troll guards and traps to the ancient treasure vault where they hope to find some more of the bright-metal armor to wear against Djunslanders, which is seen to be still on the warpath, Inside the vault, Cutter’s group finally encounters a very special most ancient Troll for whom to hopefully parlay with!
Meanwhile back at the High Elves’ crystalline palace – which is actually an ancient glorious starship –  there are more metaphysical developments for the elves who wish to reside therein, including Savah, Suntoucher, Toorah, Sunstream and some extra special astral moments for Moonshade,  who has a joy-joyful reunion with her husband Strongbow, who was estranged  from her for a while prefering the wilderness ways of the Wolfrider tribe.
Elsewhere, Rayek and Djunslander deserter Dr. Daboi revisit Ekuar and Venka, who may have a widdle surpirrise for Rayek! Meanwhile, there’s an interlude in the forest for Chieftess Ember’s High Winds tribe, including Dewshine, Treestump, Clearbrook, Tyleet, Shantee, Krim, Newstar, Scouter, Pike, Yun, Teir and Freetouch (who is one of my newest favorites)! There are also brief appearances by the Shuna, Winkin, Drub and Flam too!
The series is has such a rich tapestry starring the scores of great characters of the various species! The issue’s plot unfolded at the good pace, with the great dialogue and splendiferous balance of action, discussions, character developments, mysticism and romance! I especially liked the gleaming colors of the troll’s treasures, the ethereal shimmer of the High Ones’ palace, and there are like so many totally awesome elfin fashions, fur shur!
I especially like Ember’s new Black & Blue outfit, Newstar’s short Green dress, Savah and Moonshade’s diaphanous gowns  and the expeditionary attire of Leetah and Nightfall! The 2 pages of fan mail is quite poignant, I will give this issue the grade of an “A” as in the armor that I hope wil protect the elves, because Cutter is ready to pounce upon the enemies, fur shur! That is all for my review, and now here is Bunnibuns to tell us about
The Hunters of Salmanstra #1!
Hai! The Hunters of Salamanstra began in 2014 in as fantasy web comic by creator / artist / writer John Joseco, editor Memj & assistant editor Calpain which stars the numerous kemonomimi characters! The tale purrtains to Kessah Orlianne, a feisty 19 year old swordswoman of the Canae species with the lovely large ears & tail!
She becomes a purrofessional monster huntress after the death of her older sister Dianna, a legendary huntress known as “The White Wolf”, whose fate was chronicled in issue #0 by Keenspot Entertainment. So technically the 2nd issue, #1 is priced $3.99 and includes the uninterrupted Black and White 33 page tale followed by 3 pages of the advertisements!
We like it when the tales are not interrupted! It was written & drawn by John, edited by Jennifer McGregor & Calpain, with the cover coloring by Bernie Joseco. and available in the choice of 2
different covers. Previously at the end of issue Dianna’s comrade Adrien, travels to the Kessah’s forest cottage kingdom of Atonya to notify Kessah of her sister’s demise.
Issue #1 picks up right where that left off, as poor Kessah hears the tragic news and learns that  for several years Dianna was the most legendary hunter of all the guilds. After the brusque meeting, Kessah prepares the delicious suppurr whilst reminiscing about Dianna. After that it is the tearfully sad night of sisterly dreams, until the home is invaded by an assassin!
Then we get to see Kessah and Adrien in the relentless thrilling combat action against the mysterious assailant. Kessah is very lithe, agile and quick with the perked keen hearing to evade the masked deadly enemy! I love the beautiful character and scenic art which is of the dandy manga influence, as the emotions range from peppy & cute to sad & alarming.
Most of the pages have 3-5 panels, including dynamic angles, panoramic and cinematic qualities, several large panels and 3 full page pics! It has been quite the bittersweet tale thus far, but I have enjoyed greatly the series thus far, and I am eagerly anticipating the 3rd issue! Nextly I would like to offer the lofty words of praise for our friend Sakky’s beautiful
Magical Girl Coloring Book Volume 1!
Artist / cosplayer / model & mom Sarah “Sakky” Ruth Forde, was the guest of the August 2010 Mew, and we have some of her beautiful illustrations and cosplay pphotos in our mewseum! She also has the SenshiStock gallery full of her pose stock photos as a helpful resource for artists!
Magical Girl Coloring Book Volume 1 is a Kickstarter project that was just recently published! The 8 x 10 7/8″ book is coil bound with the 31 pages and color front cover upon the thick paper stock, with the 31 sumptuously gorgeous Black & White line-art illustrations upon the 31 pages that are blank upon the back and perforated to the 8×10″ size.
Suitable for framing, 19 of the illustrations are by Sakky, and 12 of the illustrations are by the dozen other great guest artists, including Marco Albiero, Giles Bone, Juri H. Chinchilla, Tasha J. A.K.A. FireFlea-san, Rune Johansson, Tabi Lu, Kori Michele, Jessi Pascal, Drachea Rannak, Melissa “ArtistMell” Strickbine, Paige Halsey Warren and Yoshi Yoshitani!
Each image depicts one or more lovely ladies and / or cute critters amidst the playfully opulent scenery or vignettes! Their fabulous apparel includes the gowns, widdle dresses, armor, bikini, fukus, capes, cloaks, hats, helmets and hijab, accessorized by the bows, swords, scepters, wings, tassels, tiaras, jewels, vines, feathers, flowers and the wheelchair!
The girls of diverse shapes, sizes, styles ‘n species include a catgirl, mermaid, sailor, cyborg, snake charmer, an archer, aviator, magician, faeries, witches, warriors ‘n other charming girls, plus a unicorn, kitties, cat-fish, dog-fish, birds ‘n blossoms!
This is a very splendid collection which I will heartily recommend to fans of magical girls and pretty, intricately ornate art! That will conclude our reviews of the printed media, so now I will turn The Mew over to Petra, who wishes to present the latest
additions to Catgirl Island’s Mewseum of Art!
Arigato, nya! For those who might be here for the first time, Galleries 1-7 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya!
On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped, full pics, nya! This month we have added several new images to Guest Gallery 4 and to Gallery 6, nya!
we are purroud to purrsent the “Golden Mermaid” by Rebecca Brogden who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, nya! She used the pencils, pens and Copic markers to depict Celia who is a perky, alluring, purrsuasive, cordial mermaid with the Gold Dust Molly tail and fins, nya!
Celia is a 25 year old actress, model and purrresenter whose zodiac sign is the Capurricorn, nya! Purrched upon the rocks under the purristine water, she looks quite fancy and oppulent with the Purrls upon her Blue coiffure, and that cute widdle Gold Starfish to hold her ruffled Green bandeau bikini top in place, nya!
Nextly is the image of a widdle pixy “Feeling Happy”, nya! Rebecca used the micron pen, Gold  and White gel pens, White  and Blush color pencils upon the Strathmore toned papurr to depict our friend Anderrson – sensei who is a Scandanavian Alvar Fae, and a purrofessor at The Catgirl Island School, nya!
She has the fluency in many languages, several magickal powers, and she can enlarge up to the 5′ 6″ size, but at her mewsual petite pixy size she is just 3″ tall with the tri – wingspan of 2″, nya! Purrched upon the mushroom, she looks rather joyful in the low-cut sundress with the thigh highs and detached sleeves, nya!
Then we we have Rebecca’s image of the “Tender”moment, as the purretty Platinum – haired catgirl is appurroached by the Blue Morpho butterfly, nya! Rebecca used the pencil, pens and Copic markers to illustrate this wonderfully beautiful encounter, with the Pink, Blue and Black dress to match the catgirl’s eyes and the butterfly’s wings, nya!
After that in we are delighted to debut the fan art of “Alicia Florence & Aria Pokoteng” by Misty Hopkins http://bunnychai.blogspot.comwho was among the March 2008 guests of The Mew, nya! Misty used the pens and colored pencils to illustrate those characters from the beautiful Aria manga and anime by Kozue Aamano, nya!
Purrhaps y’all have seen Misty’s purrior Aria fan art, nya? Depicted in her Summertime uniform as she expurrtly rows the gondola, Alicia the joyful purrima undine is helped by Aria is the martian neko mascot of the Aria gondola company, which serves the canal city of Neo Venusia on the terraformed planet Mars in the future, nya!
we have unveiled Mike’s illustration of “Kana, Mariko & Gary” who are relaxing at our island’s beach, nya! Mike used pencils, pens, paints & markers for his half of the art trade with Misty, nya. Kana (on the left with the Lilac hair frilly bikini) and Mariko (in the middle with the Red hair studded bikini) are Misty’s purretty ball-jointed dolls, and Gary the Fox is Misty’s mascot character, nya!
A vinyl doll made by Volks, Mariko is a purrankster of gothy punk style who enjoys scary horror tales, nya! A resin doll made by Lutz, Kana is her older sister who the girly purrincess, nya! Unseen is their sister Mitsuki who is away to get ice cream, nya. Wearing the speedo, Gary can be merry, mischievous and purrvy, with cravings for chai and boobies, but nyow he is just chilling out, nya!
Nextly we have “Karaoke Night” by Mike, who used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to illustrate this scene of our May 2008 guest Jeff Branch’s fan-senshi character Talia (Sailor Vulcan) and canine friend Marco, who listen to the singing by our November 2014 guest Sharon Williams’s character Tanya (Sailor Sirius), nya!
Tanya is wearing the strapless White halter top and Black miniskirt, whilst Talia is wearing the cropped Red tee shirt and Blue shorts, and Tanya’s dog Marco is just wearing his collar and tag, nya. From Talia and Marco’s pained expurressions, we must purrsume that Tanya is better at fighting the villains than she is at the vocal purrformance, nya!
After that is Mike’s latest illustration of our Mer Orca friend Formality, who says “I Heart My Black Purrl”, nya! She looks so dappurr with her natural tuxedo-like markings, which are accessorized by the top hat, bow tie, and the large, purrecious Black purrl in her navel, nya! Since Formality is appurroximately 11 ft long, that purrl is purretty big, nya!
It is quite valuable, but she would not sell it for any purrice, because it was a birthday purrsent from her purrents, who live in the Gulf near Purrince Edward island in Canada, nya! This illustration started as markers, pen and pencils comp, which Mike spurruced up with Photochop CS2 and the mouse, nya! So, what do y’all think of the latest art, nya?
I love the sheen and flutter of Celia’s hair, the gleam of her sapphire – like eyes and the gloss of her smiling lips!
She has a sexy tummy & belly button, I love the texture of her tail and forearms, and the ruffled edges of her fins!
Rebecca purrefectly captured the look and spirit of Anderrson – sensei, especially her expurression and wings!
I think that Rebecca’s technique of the Black & White lines with wee bits of color look great on that toned papurr!
Hai hai, and I am purrticularly fond of her use of the color and light in the image of the butterfly visiting the catgirl!
I also like the fabric folds and drapery, the smooth graceful lines, and the overall curvilinear symmetry, fur shur!
There is a great sense of depth & purrspective with Alicia & Aria in the sharpurr focus in Misty’s illustration, nya!

Oh gosh, lookit Alicia’s long braided hair, the gondola’s purristine paint, and – and Aria’s happy playful pose, nya!
Mary Nyan:
Mike nicely conveyed the characters’ purrsonalities and the technical details in the pic of Kana, Mariko & Gary!
The richly vibrant Pink, Red, Orange and Yellow pallet helps to unite all of the elements of the compurrsition.
It is nice to see another pic of Talia, Tanya and Marco! The warped mewsical notes add to the humorous tone!
I also like the scenic details, such as the 3 stars poster, the curtains, the blinds, the linens and the karaoke box!

Mike also captured Formality’s portraiture, her supple firm curves, and the details of her pearl, top hat & bow tie!
She has the zestfully cheerful expurression too, and I hope that she is pleased with Mike’s illustration of her!
She is out of town, but we sent the photo of it to her! We are so blessed to have so much art and many friends!
Yep, yep, we sure are! Ah well, Petra, thank you for presenting the latest additions to the art galleries!
Doistahimaste, nya!
The cat lady sings…
We are grateful to be invited and glad to have the free time!
We are so glad to see you and – and LUNA MOTH, NYA!
(The easily distrracted catgirl with her camera scampurrs after the large creamy Green moth)
There she goes again- and so close to the end of the mew too!
Well the Actias luna is such a beautiful insect!
I want a photo too! (scampurrs after Tara-chan and the moth)
