So what have y’all been up to last month’s Mew?

Gosh, it seems like the year thusly far has flown by at the hypurr speed, because it seems like only yesterday that we were purrparing for the Summer Solstice events, but nyow we are purrparing for the Autumnal Equinox matsuri! Things have been purrofitably bustling at my Magick Shop, and I am eagerly anticipating our county’s annual Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl

So like, the Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl is a totally awesome event across the island and the offshore waters, with lots of yummy foods, artistic decorations, fun activities, and cosplay by folks of all ages! The Repurrtory Company of our Forest Grove Ampurrtheatre performs the spooky plays and tales with the nightly fox fire fiesta shows which are quite festive, fur shur!

Hai I am so looking forward to the festivities! We look forward to the performances, games, exhibits, haunted attractions, the various educational cultural, athletic and sciencey events. When I have not been golfing with Mie-sensei, and late night hot salsa dancing with Lizzy, or caring for our garden and cats, Lizzy and I have been expurrtly pampurring the many customers at our spa!

We plan to watch The Defenders TV series for our next video marathon! When Becca is out golfing I am mewsually free running, spurringing and climbing with my Purrkour Club! Another aspect of the Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl is that groups purrpare the tasty treats to deliver to the folks who cannot purrticipate, and we all expurrdite the charitable donatations to the food banks!

It will also the purrticularly fun time at our Mewseum of Art as Bun and I curate the special exhibits of the macabre paintings, sculptures, photos and body arts, nya! We are so blessed with the community of artists, patrons and volunteers at the mewseum, nya! Aside from the mewseum, Bun and I have finished the beach volleyball tournyament at which she was the MVP, nya!

The Ladies of The Mew:

Arigato! It is the big honor, but I think that Petra deserves that award this time! We are grateful for the dedicated fans, the event staff, the officials, and our fellow athletes! With the rec league competition over, nyow we will focus upon coaching the post-season beach volleyball camp when I am not busy at the mewseum, harvesting my garden and baking the carrot cakes!

I am hoping to help there with the face painting again, where we give the kids the tempurrary stripes, spots, rosettes, whiskers and – and the cheetah tears, nya! It has been the busier time since the summer break, between the volunteering, caring for our cats, ponies, and – and enrolling in the classes when I have not been helping onee-chan with the boat and – and the charters, nya!

Tara-chan and Trini-chan seem insepurrable from the kitties and ponies, but they have not neglected the other chores, studies and hobbies, nya! When we are not busy with the charters which have reeled in the bumpurr crop of the fall groupurrs, snappurrs, wahoos, mackerels, cobias and croakers, my drumming circle is purrviding the purrcission for the dance troupes, nya!

Hai hai we have been eagerly busy with our families, friends, hobbies, chores, studies, volunteering and jobs! I have still managed the paddle surfing and the board shaping, helping at Rica and Niko’s farm, and assisting Jen-sensei with the Autumnal semester of the belly dance classes. By the way we also wish to thank Myayr-sensei who has helped with the dance costumes!

Mary Nyan:
Dooitashimaste! I am glad to help the dancers and the cosplayers! I have been sewing, helping at the shrine, and teaching the Autumnal semester of the hula classes at the Purrforming Arts Center. I recently finished sewing the Laureline, Artemis, Nightmare Moon and Hela costumes, and we need to start soonly on the costumes for the Cosplay Purrowl! Howboutchoo, Jen?

I am very appurreiative for their invaluable help. In addition to the belly dance instruction and purrformances, my routine continues to be compurrised purrimarly of mornings at the yoga studio, afternoons at the kyudo range, occasional swim wear and body paint modeling, and alternating evenings at the robotics club, which has animatronic creatures planned for Halloween.

Our county’s teachers and officers will also conduct the entertaining and informative sessions amidst the festivities, from the creative workshops and the nocturnal nature hikes, to the cultural seminars and the fire safety! My department will be instructing the latter, to include the proper handling of the lanterns, bonfires, grills and fireworks! Whatchoo been up to, Nya-sensei?

Aside from coaching and training at my dojo and gym, I have attended some of the other wonderful local athletic and cultural activities! It has been the extra special time with Mom, Dad and Oji-sanvisiting us! Purrhaps sis and I can purrsuade them to purrticipate in the Cosplay, but we still hafta vote upon the theme for our group’s cosplay at tonight’s Aftermew Luau!

By the way, for the AfterMew I have brought the ice cooler full of the succulent Anago sushi, which was formerly the Anguilla rostrata (American Eel) that tried to chomp my tail while I was wreck diving for the maritime mewseum! The fish who would be tempted by my tail is ironically fated to be glazed and broiled upon the plate! We are glad that Chief Meryl could join us again!

Arigato! I am grateful to be invited back, and glad that things have continued to be quite peaceful across the county! When I have not been on the purrtrol or in the office, I have been reading, watching movies, and anticipating the fall colors of the Blue Ridge Purrkway when my motorcycle club reconvenes to ride the mainland highways! So what has Mike been up to?

Oh I’ve been reading, writing, drawing, gaming, updating my sites, enjoying movies, radio and TV shows, spending time with family and friends… and getting ready for today’s Mew! Um… thassabout it! Well, we’ve got a lot on our plate today, so let’s go ahead and jump intot his month’s

Lightning Round topic: our favorite fun stuff of 1927!

Since May was the 10th anniversary of The Mew, we’ve been looking back at favorite things from the past decades. Previously we’ve looked back at 2007, 1997, 1987, 1977, ’67, ’57, ’47 and ’37, so today we’re looking back at some of our favorite things of 1927! Myayr will start, so, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?

The Ladies of The Mew:

Mary Nyan:
My favorite movies of 1927 were Metropolis, Tell it to the Marines, and London After Midnight – what’s left of it! (tags Trini-chan with a brush of her tail)

I will nominate the wonderful comedy shorts by Our Gang, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd! (tail – tags Elizabeth to go next)

The animated shorts starring Felix the Cat, Krazy Kat, Alice, and – and Oswald, nya! Nyow it is… Lizzy’s turn, nya! (tags Petra)

I want… I want to second the shorts, and – and nyow it is… Bunnibun’s turn, nya! (tags Bun)

I will nominate Edward Hopper’s painting of the lady in the “Automat”, and Edwin Blashfield’s painting of “Spring Scattering Stars”! (tags Petra)

Lorado Taft’s statue of Lincoln the Lawyer, Anna Hyatt Huntington’s statue of El Cid, and Reginald Blomfield’s Menin Gate, nya! (tags Nyoka)

I will nominate the books such as Now We Are Six, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, and The Tower Treasure! (tags Becca)

The beautiful mewsic by Bessie Smith, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Big Bill Broonzy, The Gershwins and The Carter Family! (tags Jeannie)

The Ford Tri-Motor, Waco 10, Bristol Bulldog. Kawasaki 88, and Piaggio P6. (tags Meryl)

The 1927 Indian Scout and he Big Chief, Harley-Davidson Bluebird, Scott Flying Squirrel, and Triumph Model N! (tags Ilyana)

The beautiful, historic ships that were commissioned or launched then, such as the Fantome, Delta Queen, Delta King, Arandora and Laurentic, nya! (tags Yvone)

Hai hai, I will include the USS Argonaut, USS Lexington, USS Saratoga, HMS Devonshire, HMS Rodney, HMS Nelson and the HMAS Australia, nya! (tags Mielikki)

So like, that year Walter Hagen won US PGA championship, Tommy Armour won US Open, Bobby Jones won the British Open, and Team USA won first Ryder Cup! (tags Nyanko with a flit of the wing)

Oh oh- that year Yankees defeated the Pirates in the World Series, and Tunney defeated Dempsey in the ring! (tags Ellie)

In 1927, Whiskery won the Kentucky Derby, Bostonian won the Preakness Stakes, and Chance Shot won the Belmont! Back to Mike!

OK, I’d like to mention Frank Godwin’s Connie comic strip, and uh some strips that began started prior to that year, such as Gasoline Alley, Popeye, Little Orphan Annie, and Felix the Cat! Well, once again we’ve got a lot on our plate, so let’s dive right into our

TV & movie mewsings, with a plot spoiler warning for
Nya-sensei’s review of Sharknado 5: Global Swarming!

Hai! We love big tasty meaty fish, but the fish in these movies would want us in their tummies! Many cameo appearances by many celebries peppur this movie as Ian Ziering, Tara Reid & Cassie Scerbo return as shark slayers Fin, April & Nova. who chase the vortex of the sharknado that trapped Fin & April’s son Gil! April’s bionic parts are upgraded, and a mystical relic is plundered from Stonehenge as they learn that April is part of a secret international sisterhood of shark slayers!

For me, the highlights of Sharknado 3 included the Sydney Opera House transforming into a giant weapon, anthropomorphic shark hieroglyphs in The Sphinx, teleportation, the Vatican’s blessed chain saw laser rifle, a flying time travel car and other purrodies! I think that it is much zanier than Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, and Empire of the Sharks. If Sharknado 3 was purrhaps the “Moonraker” of shark movies, I’d say this’un is more akin to “2012”. Nextly I have a

plot spoiler warning for my review of Trailer Park Shark!

A Great White Shark swats, roars at, electrocutes and eats the residents in a trailer park that is mostly submerged, after a naginata – wielding crime boss’s thugs blow up a levee, so that he can swindle them out of the land. The shark seemed amusingly frowny and it was remarkably stealthy given its enormity in that water’s depth.

With about a 4 ft. bite radius, it seems to purrfur to eat humans and a horse over the beef ribs that was intended as bait by a victim. The shark’s electromagnetic pulse causes another victim to twerk atop her trailer, and a cowboy water skis behind the lassoed shark. Neither location purroves to be safe from the agile, leaping shark.

Purrhaps reminiscent of the climax of the Hammer Film Brides of Dracula, a bloodthirsty, toothy purredatory does not fare well against a windmill. Trailer park Shark is more comedic than Open Water, Spring Break Shark Attack or Shark Night 3D; and seems compurrable to Swamp Shark, Snow Sharks, and Ozark Shark. Nyow the

plot spoiler warning for my review of Planet of the Sharks!

This sci fi tale was written & directed by Mark Atkins, and purrduced by The Aslyum studio which is known for many purrodies and monster movies. The purremise is that global warming has caused the ocean to flood more of the planet. The Statue of Liberty deeply under water, and people live in floating villages upon piers and rafts.

Thusly there is the greater home field advantage to the leaping packs of sharks who purrey upon the dwindling humans. The main human characters are the bit more like the heroes of Sharknado 5, as the scientists and adventurers who try to remedy the crisis which reminds me somewhat of Water World and The Day After Tomorrow.

It is not as as suspenseful as Deep Blue Sea, The Shallows, or Open Water, but has more shark action than Spring Break Shark Attack. The visual FX were not great, but were ample enough; and I think that the purrformances were fine amidst the boating action and nicely photographed kite-boarding stunts. Next to lastly, I have the

plot spoiler warning for my review of Empire of the Sharks!

Somewhat akin to Planet of the Sharks, Empire of the Sharks is the post – apocalyptic drowned world where floating villages are attacked by sharks. However, the sharks are just the electronically mind-controlled tools used by the evil warlord who enslaves the citizens of Karatoa, such as Willow the purriestess known as a Shark Caller.

Her friends Timor and Sion recruit mercs to rescue the slaves from the enemy’s fortress, from which the mind – controlled sharks are launched. There is bloody violence, but the movie is more of a science fiction adventure than horror. It seems the bit rushed, as if some scenes are missing, and several characters seem rather underused.

It has a fine cast of the diverse ethnicities to populate the nice locations, sets and vehicles. Amongst the highlights for me were the two – purrson submarine and the kamikaze Goblin Shark. I liked the underwater sequences, which have the beautiful crepuscular rays of sunlight and great sense of depth. Lastly but not leastly, here is the

plot spoiler warning for my review of Toxic Shark!

It is a bad time for phones, radios & boat engines to fail at a fitness retreat on a purretty island, when folks are attacked by a huge mewtant shark whose blowhole spews the toxic slime which causes victims to convulse and bite at friends! Like the Trailer Park Shark, this’un attacks a horse and rider, but it chomps the rider instead of the horse.

Even folks the beach are not safe, given the shark’s leaping and spewing purrowess! Toxic Shark’s CG FX are not the best, but the purractical & make-up FX are fine, and the actors purrvide good purrformances amidst the lovely locations. I would put Toxic Shark in the same ballpark compurrable to Two – Headed Shark Attack, and Shark Attack 3.

It is not humorous as Sharktopus, and it lacks the spooky suspense of Peter Benchley’s Creature, but I thought that it was more exciting than Spring Break Shark Attack. However, I cannot compurr those movies to 47 Meters Down, which I have not yet seen. That is all for my reviews, and nyow I will turn The Mew back over to Mike for his review of

Batman and Harley Quinn!
Thanks, Nya-sensei! We’ve greatly enjoyed many of the animated DCU TV series, shorts and movies such as Batman: The Animated Adventures, Superman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, Justice League Unlimited, Gotham Girls, Batman Beyond, The Brave and the Bold, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and DC Superhero Girls! For our review of Vixen: The Movie, please see our June 2017 Mew!

We were especially eager to see this latest OAV, especially given the plot, characters, cast and crew! Batman and Nightwing attempt to capture The Floronic Man who committed crimes at S.T.A.R. Labs, including stealing information about Swamp Thing and botanical weapons. He had help from Poison Ivy, so the heroes try to get her best friend Harley Quinn to help them out!

Based upon the DC Comics characters and animated by Warner Bros. Animation, the story is by Bruce Timm with the teleplay by Jim Kreig and Timm! The movie was directed by Sam Liu, edited by Christopher D. Lozinski, scored by Michael McCuiston, Kristopher Carter and Lolita Ritmanis, with casting and voice direction by Wes Gleason!

The executive producers were Sam Register, Michael Uslan, Benjamin Melnike and Timmr; the co-producer was Alan Burnett and the line producer was Amy McKenna. The voice cast includes Kevin Conroy as Batman, Melissa Rauch as Harley, Loren Lester as Nightwing, Paget Brewster as Ivy, Kevin Michael Richardson as Floronic Man, and John DiMagio as Sarge Steel!

With the art style mor elike the classic Bruce Timm – which I prefer to the “New 52” animation style, Batman and Harley Quinn might be my favoritest of the animated DCU movies. I might like it more than Batman: Mask of the Phantasm or Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The designs animation, voices, sounds, music and editing are brilliant, with awesome action, humor and surprises!

The fight scene choreography, the chemistry and dialogue between Harley, Batman, Nightwing and Ivy is superb, there are some great homages to the 1966 Batman, and there are plenty of references to characters from Justice League Unlimited and / or The Brave and the Bold. The Batmobile and Batplane are beautiful. It’s got two great songs. It is just so doggone thrilling and fun!

By the way, this is totally the Bruce Timm / Paul Dini Harley, not the Suicide Squad or Assault on Arkham Harley- and she pretty much steals the show. The 74 minute, PG-13, animated movie was released in different editions such as the DVD, Blu-Ray, DVD / Blu-Ray combo, and a box with a Harley figurine. On the Blu-Ray disk, the movie is presented in the 1.78:1 widescreen format.

The Blu-Ray’s audio choices are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish (Latin), Spanish (Castilian), Portuguese, Swedish, Dainish, Norwegian and Finnish; and the optional subtitle choices are English SDH, French, German, Italian, Spanish (Latin), Spanish (Castilian), Portuguese, Swedish, Dainish, Norwegian, Finnish and Korean.

its special features include an 11.75 minute discussion with Loren Lester; a 21.25 minute discussion about Harley by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Mike Carlin and Dr. Robin Rosenberg; two episodes from Batman: The Animated Series, “Harrley and Ivy” and “Harley’s Holiday”; an 8.5 minute sneak peek at the forthcoming animated Gotham by Gaslight movie, and a few preview trailers.

The DVD is sparser compared to the Blu-Ray, with the audio choices of English, French, Spanish, Portuguese & Thai; optional subtitle choices of English SDH, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Korean & Chinese. The only special feature on the DVD is the Gotham by Gaslight peek, and it has several trailers for other animated & live-action DC movies. Ah, that’ll conclude my review, and now here’s Jenjen to review the

Alien: Covenant Blu-Ray / DVD / Digital HD & Book package!

Arigato. Purrduced & directed by Ridley Scott, Alien: Covenant purrtains to the titular colonist ship’s encounter with David the android survivor of the destroyed spaceship Prometheus and the deadly aliens. It is set 10 years after the movie Prometheus, which we reviewed in the July 2012 Mew.

The movie’s fine cast includes Michael Fassbender as androids David and Walter, Katherine Waterston as Daniels the terraformer officer, Danny McBride as Tennesee the pilot Billy Crudup as Oram the executive officer, Amy Seimetz as the landing vehicle pilot, and Guy Pierce as Weyland.

For our review of the movie itself, please see the June 2017 Mew. Last month, the movie was released on region 1 home video in the few different editions, such as the DVD, Blu-Ray / DVD / Digital HD, and the Target exclusive package which includes the disks within the 36 page, 7″ x 5 5/8″ hardcover book titled The Creatures of Alien Covenant.

Packaged within the outer cardboard sleeve, the book includes photos & illustrations excerpted from the larger Art and making of Alien: Covenant book published by Titan. The Blu-Ray and DVD are tucked into pockets in the book’s case, with an an instruction sheet for downloading the digital HD copy of the movie.

The 122 minute R rated movie is purrsented on the disks in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The Blu-Ray’s audio choices are English, English Descriptive Audio Service, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Ridley Scott’s commentary. The optional subtitle choices are English SDH, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Norwiegian, Swedish, Danish & Finnish, plus the commentary in those languages.

The special features upon the Blu-Ray disk include the 55.5 minute “Master Class” documentary on the making of the movie; two of the movie’s theatrical trailers, the purroduction art gallery (including Ridleygrams, logos / patches, creatures & conceptual art), several Several “in-world” featurettes, extended & deleted scenes.

Those featurettes include the Meet Walter android commercial, the Covenant command crew’ “Phobos” psychological tests, the Covenant crew’s last suppurr before entering the cryogenic stasis, the peek at David & Shaw’s voyage aboard The Engineers’ ship betwixt the Prometheus and Covenant movies;

The extended scenes include the purrologue, Dram & Daniels, Jacob’s funeral, Crossing the Plaza, and the stairs to the egg room. The deleted scenes include Walter in the greenhouse, Walter visits Daniels, Daniels’s bedroom flashback, Ledward’s fall, Daniels thanks Walter, Ealter reporting back, and Rosenthal’s purrayer.

There is also extensive gallery of David’s illustrations of the alien planet’s flora, fauna, mycota, the evolution of the xenomorph creature, and anatomical studies of Shaw’s ghastly fate. The Region 1 NTSC DVD’s options and special features are much fewer compurred to those upon the Blu-Ray disk.

The Dolby Digital audio choices are English 5.1, English Descriptive Audio Service 5.1, Spanish surround 2.0, French surround 2.0, Portuguese, and the director’s commentary in English. The optional subtitle choices are English SDH, Spanish & French, plus the commentary in each of those languages.

The special features are sparser, with only the “Phobos”, extended & deleted scenes. I have not attempted to download the digital HD copy so I cannot comment on that, however I was pleased with the amount and quality of the options and extras of this edition, which I will recommend to any fans of this movie. Now here is Mie-sensei to discuss the

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 Blu-Ray / DVD / Digital package!

Hai! So like, we totally enjoyed both of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies! Written & directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quinn a.k.a. Starlord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillian as Nebula Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot!

It also stars Kurt Russell as Ego, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Sylvester Stallone as Starhawk, Chris Sullivan as Taser Face, and Laura Haddock as Peter’s mom; with brief appearances by Ben Browder as the Sovereign Admiral, Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, Ving Rhames as Charlie 27, and Michelle Yeoh as Aleta!

There are also quick widdle cameos by Stan Lee, David Hasselhoff, Seth Green as the voice of Howard the Duck, and Molly Quinn as his date; with the quick glimpse during the end credits of Cosmo and The Grandmaster, fur shur! For our review of the first movie please see our August 2014 Mew, and for our review of the 2nd movie, please see our June 2017 Mew!

So like, the 136 minute, PG 13 rated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is presented on the disks in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The Blu-Ray’s audio choices are English 7.1, English descriptive audio 2.0, French 5.1, Spanish 5.1, and writer / director James Gunn’s commentary. The optional subtitle choices include the English SDH, French, Spanish, and the commentary.

The Blu-Ray disk has several bonus extra features, such as the four documentary featurettes which total about 37.5 minutes about the movie’s directing, cast, design, FX & mewsic, with comments by several members of the cast & crew! There is a 3:41 min. gag reel, and a 3:35 min music video for the “Guardians Inferno” song by The Sneepers featuiring David Hasselhoff!

The Blu-Ray’s extras also include 2 deleted scenes: Ego’s war memorial statue, Peter & Kraglin discussing songs; and 2 extended scenes: Peter talking to adolescent Groot, Mantis & Drax feeling the sadness. Also upon the Blu-Ray are the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, the ad for Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, and a spot for the Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite video game.

The Region 1 NTSC standard DVD has the Dolby digital audio choices of English 5.0, English descriptive audio 2.0. French 5.1 and Spanish 5.1; optional subtitle choices of English SDH, French and Spanish, but it does not have the bonus extra features. Also included in the Blue plastic case is the instruction sheet for downloading the digital copy of the movie.

I haven’t tried to download the digital copy, so I can’t comment on that process, but I was overally pleased with the package and glad to again see the movie, which I will totally recommend to the fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy, fur shur! So like, that is all for our DVD, TV and movie reviews, but the Marvel-ous topic will continue as Lizzy starts our

toy talk, with her review of the Marvel Legends
Goddess Thor (Jane Foster) action figure!

Arigato! We like to collect action figures of strong, inspurrational heroines, such as Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Gamora, Nebula, Mantis ,Invisible Woman, Elektra, and Jessica Jones action figures that we have recently reviewed! Nyow I would like to discuss the figure of Jane Foster as Thor, the Goddess of Thunder!

Three years ago in the Marvel Comics, Jane’s boyfriend Thor the God of Thunder, Avengers member and son of Odin was missing in deep outer space, but his magickal hammer Mjolnir was found and inherited by his human girl friend Jane Foster, who was deemed worthy as a new Avenger and Goddess of Thunder!

Not to be confuzzled with Tarene alias Thor Girl, Jane looks regal, glorious and powerful amongst the recent Thor – themed wave of figures, which also includes (movie) Thor, (movie) Loki, (movie) Hela (movie), Odinson and Ares. Each is sold sepurrately, and includes the pieces needed to build the gladiator Hulk figure!

She is wearing the sleeveless costume with the gauntlet, boots, chest plate, tabard, unremovable winged helmet, and removable maroon cape! She is 1/12 scale and 6.25″ tall including the helmet, and very posable with articulation in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles.

The mighty Mjolnir fits into her left hand. I think that her design, sculpt & paint are excellent with the intricate details… from the Gold engravings that match her shoulder-length Blonde hair; to the trim, folds, drapurry of the costume with the buckles, rings, rivets, clasps, straps & wraps! Nextly I would like to purraise the

Marvel Legends Hela action figure!

in the Marvel Comics, Hela is the Asgardian Goddess of Death and the Queen of the realms of Hel and Niflheim! She and Jane were both created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel’s Thor comics. Jane first appurred in Journey into Mystery #64 in 1962, and Hela first appurred in Journey into Mystery #102 in 1964!

Befitting the goddess’s purrogative, Hela’s attire has changed over the years from Purrple to Green and then Black, but has retained her famous antler mask. We are looking forward to her in the Thor: Ragnarok movie, in which she is purrtrayed by Cate Blanchett, who we loved as Galadririel in the Lord of the Rings movies!

She looks magnificent and tough in the movie’s purreview trailer which has Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”! This action figure is of that same Thor – themed wave of figures that I mentioned. She is wearing the sexy sleeveless skin tight Black costume with the Dark Green seams & plates with the opurra-length fingerless gloves!

Also included are the removable flexible Black ankle – length cape, the wicked looking Black 3.35″ sword, and the choice of two interchangeable heads, one with the 12 point Black antler mask, the other unmasked to reveal her shoulder – length Black hair. She is 7″ tall without the mask, but the antlers will add the extra inch!

On the latter head, her eyes have the dark bruise-like circles that remind me of Kaecilius, the main villain in last year’s Doctor Strange movie! Hmm I wonder if there is a connection, or if they are just coincidental Black eyes from the battles or if she just needs more catnaps! Nevertheless, she has the confident evil slight grin!

Like the Goddess Thor figure, Hela’s articulation is in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees & ankles. I have displayed them on the shelf for them beside fellow Asgardians Enchantress and Valkyrie! That is all for my toy talk, but Tara-chan would like to mention more toys as she begins this month’s

My Little Pony purrings!

Arigato, nya! We love the My Little Pony TV series, toys, games, books and – and other items, nya! It is the purrticularly equine – enthused time of late, with the Hallmark stores’ Moondancer pony ornament, and Hasbro’s wave of new toys purrtaining to the pending My Little Pony: The Movie, nya!

Of course, My Little Pony movies are not new, as there was the first one in 1986, those of the Classic Movie Collection DVD, and – and the Equestria Girls movies, nya! Some of the many new pony movie toys include the undersea Cafe, undersea Spa, pirate airship play set, the seashell lagoon set…

My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel #2 & 3, nya!

Hai! Among the wonderful pony comics published by IDW, issue #2 has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of advertisements, all sammiched betwixt the choice of the 3 different covers! It was written by Ted Anderson, illustrated by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckle, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and published by Ted Adams.

The regular cover is by Andy, the subscription cover is by Tony Fleecs, and the retailer incentive cover is by Kaori Matsuo! Tony’s pony covers for this miniseries connect to form the big panoramic scene! We met Tony and Ted at the Oak City ComiCon in March on the mainland at the Raleigh Convention Center!

Purreviously the tale starred the Storm King whose fleet of airships plundered various countries, such as the land of Abyssinia where he purrloined the wealth from the poor cats, until he was hijacked by the flock of pirate parrots! Issue #2 focuses mostly upon the pirates whose leader is Captain Celaeno, but the Storm King is not finished, and there are stowaway cats!

Issue #3 has the same credits, but it has the 22 page tale followed by the 8 pages of the ads, nya. Chummer and Capper the thieving cats survive the airship crash and- and wander to the desert town of Klugetown in search of money, food and a home, but it is the tough life upon the mean streets!

They have acquired the cursed Misfortune Malachite gem which the Storm King stole from Abyssinia, but it looks like it will only bring the tragic luck to them, nya. I am not sure, but there seems to be the homage to the 1966 Batman movie’s foam rubber scene! I am glad that the tale is not interrupted by the ads, and I wish that all comic books were published that way!

The character, scenic, FX and typographic art are great, with the excellent graphic narrative and the rich colors across the interesting panels upon the pages! I was very pleased by the pace, dialogue and the humor of the plot, which leaves me eagerly anticipating the next issue! Nextly I would like to discuss

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #57, nya!

Issue #57 has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of ads. It was written by Thom Zahler, illustrated by Tony Fleecs, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and – and published by Ted Adams! It has the choice of the 3 different covers: Cover A by Tony, Cover B by Sara Richard, and – and the retailer incentive cover by Thom!

We met Thom at the Heroes Convention in June! In this stand – alone tale, while Discord enjoys his visit with Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie accidentally wanders to his home town of the chaos dimension where the laws of physics are quite bizarre. This weakens Discord’s access to the surreal realm’s chaotic energy, especially whilst Pinkie Pie prospers enough to become its ruler!

Thusly Discord and Fluttershy consult Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer for the remedy, which will require the magickal expedition to retrieve their friend! The tale also includes Rainbow Dash, Applejack. Rarity, Maud Pie, Spike, and Gummy! It is so nice how Starlight Glimmer has become part of the gang, and – and it is always great to see more of Pinkie Pie’s sister Maud Pie!

I love the characters poses and expressions, whether they are reclined, sitting, standing, running, hovering or flying! As the rrincess of chaos, Pinkie Pie becomes the taller Alicorn, similar to Luna and Celestia! The scenery and FX are quite pretty, the colors are so richly vibrant, and I will give all of those pony comic books the “A” as in Applebuck! That is all for the pony report, but Myayr has

more comic book reports, with her
review of The Unstoppable Wasp #8!

Mary Nyan:
Arigato, Tara-chan! This has been my favoritest Marvel Comic of the past several months! It stars Nadia the genius daughter of Hank (Ant Man) & Maria Pym, who escaped from the secret Russian Red Room research facility, joined The Avengers, and with the help of their butler Edwin Jarvis, step mom Janet Van Dyne, and lawyer Matt Murdock she has been adjusting to her heroic new life in the USA!

Nadia recruited other brilliant girl geniuses Miranda, Taina, Alexis, Lashayla, Priya for her heroic G.I.R.L. (Genius in Action Research Labs) team, which is based at the house full of amazing scientific equipment in Cresskill, NJ which she inherited from her late father. Unfortunately they have been attacked by several villains, including the Russians who tried to kidnap Nadia & Ying!

Nadia first apurrred in The Avengers: Civil War II Free Comic Book Day issue which was published in May of 2016, so she has only been around the comic books for 15 months! After that she began to appurr in the All-New All-Different Avengers series starting with its issue #9. Her own series was launched in January of this year, but last month it bittersweetly ended with this issue.

It was written by Jeremy Whitley, illustrated by Ro Stein & Ted Brandt, colored by Megan Wilson, lettered by Joe Caramagna, edited by Alanna Smith and associately edited by Tom Brevoort, with the cover art by Elsa Charretier and Ian Herring! By the way, Jeremy has also written many of the pony comics, and is he is the creator of the wonderful Princeless and Raven comics!

We have met him at several of the comic book conventions, but I have stray – catted off of the topic! The Unstoppable Wasp #8 is is purriced at $3.99 and has the 20 page tale plus the credits / recap page, the Agents of G.I.R.L intermew page, Jeremy’s message page, and the 5 pages of the advertisements.

The tale pics up right where issue #7 left off, as Nadia, Ying and Janet wake up from the sleepover at her lovely house! They have to purrpare for the very busy day, beginning with the trip to the jail in Queens NY where the wrestler criminals Marian and Helen A.K.A. Pound Cakes and Letha have been incarcerated ever since they attacked Priya’s mom’s store in issues 3 and 4.

Things purrk up for those two when Janet offers them the generous job offer to help the G.I.R.L. team, which settles into their shiny new research facility, where Barbara Morse A.K.A. Mockingbird drops by for a cordial visit, and Nadia gets to see an old video of her mom and & dad. The jubilation continues at Janet’s boutique in Manhattan, where Nadia gets a new dress for a dance!

The day is peppurred by the very tender moments as Nadia chats with Janet about Hank, and Matt finalizes Nadia’s citizenshop papurrs. What follows is the very emotionally bittersweet ending, as it is sad to see this wonderful series end, but at least it does end upon the joyful scene! Jarvis does not appurr in the tale, but he does appurr with the ladies upon the front cover.

I am purrticulalry fond of the wonderfully written characters who are extremely smart, peppy, and I love their poses and expurressions amidst the nice mecha, fashions, scenery, FX and fonts! The tale has the great balance of the humor, drama, character developments, slice – of – life moments, and the combat action for the heroic characters with the great sense of friends and family!

It unfolds at the splendid pace with the captivating the dialogue and many emotional moments for the flow of tears. In each issue, Nadia or Janet have intermewed real scientist & engineer girls, and this time the final intermew is with Megan who is not only the colorist but is also a mechanical engineer! Jeremy’s message page is the purrfect, grateful way to top off the series.

He has the supurrb knack for strongly writing the fun tales of the diverse, strong, smart, brave heroines – whether they are the human or the equine! Sadly many of our favorite fun heroine titles of recent years have not lasted very long, such as Avengers Academy, the Fearless Defenders, The World of Wakanda, Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat, and sadly nyow The Unstoppable Wasp.

Fortunately, Patsy has appurred in a few issues of Hulk and Nadia still appurrs in The Avengers. By the way, last month Marvel also published The Unstoppable Wasp: Unstoppable trade papurrback, which collects issues 1-4, including the Agents of G.I.R.L. pages, the variant covers, and the waspy tale from All – New All – Different Avengers #14!

It is purriced $12.99 in the USA & $16.99 in Canada! That might be an easier, less expensive way to read those tales than trying to find the back issues! Hopefully there will be a 2nd volume to collect the rest of the The Unstoppable Wasp, because I give all 8 issues of the brief but wonderful series an “A” As in Ant Man! That is is all for my report, and here is Becca to review

Elfquest: The Final Quest #21!

Thanks Myayr! We are big fans of Wendy and Richard Pini’s Elfquest and the other beautiful works of art by Wendy! Since it started in t1978, there have been many Elfquest series, spin-offs, graphic novels, portolios, calendars, purrose works, games, figurines, fanzines and other items. For our review of the Wendy Pini: The Line of Beauty book, please see last month’s Mew!

Issue #21 might be the 22nd issue, if you include the purrecursory 2013 Special issue! It is hard to believe that in just 3 more issues this final quest will come to an end! It has been a purrofound, joyful and tragic time of tumultuous change, astounding revelations and character developments for the various elf tribes and their allies, as an evil human army tries to conquer their planet!

Published by Dark Horse, It was written by Wendy & Richard, scripted & illustrated by Wendy, colored by Sonny Strait, lettered by Nate Piekos, edited by Spencer Cushing & assistant editor Kevin Burkhalter, with the graphic design by Sarah Terry & digital artistry by Allyson Haller. The $3.99 issue includes the uninterrupted 20 page story, 2 pages of comments and 6 pages of bonus art!

Thanks to reckless, evil humans, a forest fire threatens to destroy the grove of the plant-like elves known as The Rootless Ones – and possibly over heroic Redlance’s dead body if his magickal power is not enough to save them! However, that is not the only immediate threat, as the elf known as Door tries to seize the palace of the High Ones on the eve of it’s launch into outer space!

Meanwhile, heart-breaking decisions are made by elven families who are torn between the space journey and staying on their world, as several tribes commune with the spirits of departed friends and relatives whilst others purrepare for the next battle with the human villains. The elves’ few human allies and the recently migrated Wavedancers tribe do not appurr in this issue…

… however, it is bustling with appurrrances by over three dozen characters including Ahdri, Auroree, Chot, Clearbrook, Cutter, Dart, Dodia, Door, Egg, Ember, Harotim, Krim, Leetah, Mender, Newstar, Nightfall, Redlance, Savah, Skywise, Strongbow, Sunstream, Windkin, Tier, Timmain, Tree Stump, Two-Edge, Voll, Yun– and that does not include their quadruped friends!

The art is lavishly gorgeous, with many beautifully designed and rendered characters, critters and couture amidst the lush forest, Two-Edge’s workshop, the deep caverns, and the ethereally shimmering palace! The use of color and light is exquisite, from the magickal FX and luminous spirit realm to the fire-lit woodlands and the starry winter sky! Next I would like to purraise

Hero Cats #18!

The Hero Cats are among the purrotectors of their town of Stellar City, and the team is compurrised of Midnight the Black cat, Ace the White cat, Belle the Siamese cat, Roco the Gray cat, Rocket the Tabby, Cassiopeia the Orange & White cat! Cassiopeia has a brother named Bandit the tuxedo cat, who is away on a sepurrate mission, to the SkyWorld with his robot friend in this three part tale!

Cassiopeia’s owners Galaxy Man and Cosmic Girl are human supurr heroes, but they are unaware of the cats’ adventures! Published by Action Lab, issue #18 has the uninterrupted 22 page tale is the conclusion of the current SkyWorld story arc. plus the announcements page, the two- page map, and the three pages of ads. The covers of issues #16 – 18 connect to form the panoramic scene!

Rated “E” for everyone, it was created & written by Kyle Puttkammer, pencilled & inked by Omaka Schultz, lettered by George Gant and colored by Julie Barclay! We have met several of those awesome folks at the conventions, and at the 2014 Heroes Con we got a lovely sketch of Cassiopeia http://catgirlisland.net/art/guest3/6.html by Marcus Williams who was the comics’ purrior artist!

Purreviosuly in the tale, it has been several months since Bandit and Robot fled from the army of Corvus the giant evil Crow King. They befriended Sapphire the Blue cat, Madalyn the magickal Purrple gypsy cat, Newton the sorcerer’s genius Siamese Cat, Lancelot the armored adventurous Orange cat, and Erimos his flying, fire – breathing Orange – Red dragon friend!

They have been training and planning to strike back at Corvus! Bandit and Erimos lure the villain into Sapphire’s explosive diversion, whilst Madalyn casts illusion spells upon the castle guards, as Robot, Newton and Lancelot search for the magickal portal inside Corvus’s throne room! That is the scene for the big battle to hopefully finally defeat Corvus and liberate the world!

I love the poses, expurressions, the landscapes, and the richly vibrant colors! The cats seem happy as a team, especially Madalyn after her mystical revelations, and I hope that we will see more of them, the robot and the Stellar City heroes! I am eagerly anticipating the next issue of this series, and the next issue of Midnight’s 2nd mini series! I am done, so nyow here is Chief Meryl to discuss

The Hunters of Salamanstra #5!

Hai! The Hunters of Salamanstra http://salamanstra.keenspot.com began in 2014 as a manga style web comic by creator/ artist/ writer John Joseco, editor Memj & assistant editor Calpain which stars numerous kemonomimi characters! The tale purrtains to Kessah Orlianne, a feisty 19 year old swordswoman of the Canae species with the lovely ears, tail, petite fangs and Lavender hair!

She becomes a purrofessional monster huntress after the death of her older sister Dianna, the legendary monster hunter known as The White Wolf who appurrs in flashbacks, visions and dreams. Published by Keenspot, the Black & White comic book is written and drawn by John, edited by Jennifer McGregor and Calpain, with the different cover illustrations color by Bernie Joseco.

The bittersweet tale ranges from cute, peppy, charming & heroic to sad, scary, violent & gory. Issue #0 chronicled Dianna’s final day and her cyborg purrrtner Adrien’s journey to meet Kessah; in issue #1 Adrien told Kessah about Dianna, and her home was destroyed in a fight with an assassin; in issue #2, they travelled to an airship bound for hunters guild that Kessah wants to join;

In issue #3 they escaped from the airship which was destroyed by a huge monster. In issue #4, Kessah & Adrien’s escape pod crash landed in the Salamanstran wasteland populated by monsters and enemy guilds. Adrien told Kessah the tale of how he lost his arm and his purrtner Kary. He was rescued by Dianna who became his new purrtner after his arm was bionically replaced.

That brings us to #5 which is purriced at $4.99 and has the uninterrupted Black & White 34 page chapter and 2 pages of ads all sammiched betwixt the choice of 4 different covers. Adrien & Kessah finally emerge from the monstrous rocky wasteland and reach the forests, but the situation is still dangerous when they encounter two enemy guild men attacking another escape pod!

Those thugs are initially intimidated by Kessah, mistaking her for Dianna! Trash talk and fighting ensues, from which the thugs flee and the heroes rescue petite, cute, feisty Asharia Kenzie, who is a fair – skinned, Blonde – haired, Blue – eyed medic in Adrien’s guild. She gleefully, gratefully glomps on to Kessah and gives her some biscuits to eat and then the trio continues their journey.

However, they are not out of the woods yet, when the thugs return with their boss Fane Vermilion, a top – ranked hunter who is of the Canae species like the Orlianne sisters, but I should not reveal what happens after that! The captivating plot has great dialogue, mythology and world – building, with beautiful character, mecha, creature & scenic art with nice graphic FX & typography!

The characters are wonderfully expurressive, and the tale unfolds at the purrfect pace across the interesting compurrsitions of the panels and pages! We are cheering and purraying for Kessah, Adrien & Asharia’s happy, healthy success whilst we look forward to the next issue! That is all for my comic book report, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Ilyana-sensei, who will begin our

manga mewsings, with
Monster Musume vol. 12!

Arigato! Written & drawn by Okayado (who is also the author of the 12 Beast manga) and originally published by Tokuma Shoten in Japan, Monster Musume is a sexy comedic urban fantasy manga of the harem trope & ample fan service, starring the liminal ladies (monster girls) who are romantic rivals for Kimihito, the human chap in whose house they reside!

The government bureaucracy regulates the hosting of the liminals during the recently introduced intercultural / interspecies exchange purrogram, and thus Kimihito’s nice house has been often expeditiously enlarged and renovated, thanks to Ms. Smith their overworked case worker who finds homes & jobs for the liminals whilst trying to purrotect their rights!

Residing in the house are Centorea the centauress, Miia the lamia, Papi the harpy, Suu the slime girl, Merou the mermaid, Rachnera the spider girl and Lala the Dullahan. Assisting Smith are the Monster Ops team of Manako the cyclops, Tio the ogre, Doppel the doppleganger and Zombina the zombie. At least one new monster girl is introduced purr volume!

Other recurring characters include Kii the dryad, Draco the dragon girl, Yukio the yuki-onna, Polt the kobold, Kinu the oni, Liz the lizardess, Lilith the demoness, Cathyl the minotaur, Octo the Scylla, Merino the pan, Yuuhi the zombie, Ils the kitsune, Killa the hornet girl, Kino the mushroom girl, Ton and Cott the dryads, Miku and her Shikigami minions.

We have also met some of the girls’ moms too! There is also the anthology series titled Monster Musume: I Heart Monster Girls which has those characters in side-stories! Published here in English by Seven Seas, Monster Musume is rated for older teen readers of ages 16+ , purrhaps due to nudity, skimpy attire, slapstick violence, sexy comedy and dark humor!

Vol. 12 was translated by Ryan Peterson, adapted by Shanti Whitesides, proof read by Janet Houck, published by Jason DeAngelis, edited by Adam Arnold & assistantly edited by Jenn Grunigen, with lettering by Meaghan Tucker, purroduction management by Lissa Patitillo, purroduction assistance by CK Russell, cover design by Nicky Lim & logo design by Courtney Williams.

It has 160 B&W pages of manga chapters 47 – 51, the 3 page bonus strip and the purrofile page of the new character Cure the vampire girl, plus the 4 color pages & wraparound cover. Now I will offer the taste of the plot, as Ms. Smith and the Mon team escort Kimihito, Miia, Papi, Suu, Merou and Centorea to the huge convention center to attend the Inter-species Expo!

It is such the spurrawling event with the many exhibits, demos, pruresentations, furnishings, venders, foods and other activities purrtaining to the various species! Kimihito becomes the bait to lure the rogue vampire girl, but while Papi befriends her, Kimihito has the speed date with other blood – sucking ladies such as the leech, lampurrey and mosquito girl!

There are glimpses of other species, such as the mummies, yetis, pixies and owl harpies! I should not say too much more about Cure because she is very central to the plot; but I will mention that although Rachnera stayed home, Lala has a brief poignant scene, and Polt gets excited whilst demonstrating the exercise equipment at her fitness club’s booth!

Draco has an embarrassing wardrobe moment, whilst Merino & Cathyl present the amewsing milking demonstration at their dairy farm’s booth! The 3 page bonus strip stars the blood – sucking girls who are in search of a new good home, and the 4 color sequence depicts Miia and Suu who get over heated when the air conditioner breaks on a hot day!

I think the art is quite lovely, with the beautifully drawn characters and amusing FX amidst the very detailed landscapes, architecture, clothing and mecha! There might be the antagonistic moments, lewd behavior and rivalries, but most characters are rather sympathetic and care for each other amidst the sense of expanded family and community!

The manga might not be for the widdle kitties, prudish readers, or those who care not for the purrvy comedic harem trope, but I thought it was another charming, wacky, sexy fun tale of the everyday lives and interspecies relationships, as more characters are introduced and the monster girl mythology continues to develop! Now here is Nyo-sensei to tell us about

A Centaur’s Life vol. 12!

Hai! A Centaur’s Life Written and drawn by Ken Murayama A Centaur’s Life is such the charming, slice – of – life urban fantasy in a world populated by centaurs, fauns, kemonomimi, angels; the dracon, unicorn, snake, frog people, were – tigers & other species in a contempurrary world. The main characters are Himeno the centauress, her high school classmates and their families.

Himeno’s best friends are Omaki the satyr girl, Nozomi the Dracon girl, Himeno’s 1st grader niece Shino-chan and Shino’s friend Maki-chan! Other classmates include Hime’s centauress kouhai Ayaka, Akechi the satyr girl, Inuki the catgirl, snake girl sisters Suu and Ni, Tama the angel girl, and her kitten girl sisters, including the triplets Chinami, Chiho, Chigusa and younger Sue-chan!

We occasionally look in on Eri and other merfolk at another high school, life back in Antarctica for Suu & Nil’s people, the amphibious skirmishes amidst a froggy rebellion, and journeys into the past! The plots focus on activities at school, home and works, although there are mysterious purranormal incidents, incidents of bigotry, oppurression, poverty, war, crime and conspurracies.

Originally published in Japan as Centaur No Nayami, the english edition is published in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment! Purriced at $13.99 in the USA and $15.99 in Canada, vol. 12 is 8 1/4″ x 5 7/8″ with 164 pages that include chapters 79-88 of the Black & White manga, 11 pages of historical & anthropological notes, the meta-fictional 2 page afterward and the 2 color pages!

It was translated by Elina Ishikawa, adapted by Holly Kolodziejczak, lettered & laid out by Jennifer Skarupa, edited by Adam Arnold, assistantly edited by Jenn Grunigen, published by Jason DeAngelis and purroofread by Patrick King, with the logo designed by Courtney Williams, cover designed by Nicky Lim, and purrduction managed by Lissa Pattilo with assistance by CK Russell.

It is suggested for readers of ages 16+, purrhaps due to nudity, language, dramatic and violent situations. Much of this volume purrtains to the members of the occult club as they ponder plans for the upcoming festival, discuss relationships, debate the topics of spirits and afterlife, watch a horror movie, investigate a supposedly haunted dojo, visit a shrine, and enjoy Nil’s idol concert!

Serious purrental conversations result after Shino-chan defends herself and friends from bullies; the merfolk get involved in the rebellious froggy conflict, and the volume is topped off by the very bittersweet purrehistoric tale of the centaur and weretiger girlfriends! It is the emotional roller coaster ranging from the sad and tragic to the whimsical and happy occasions.

The character and scenic art are beautiful and intricately detailed; the main characters are quite endearing, and the author has done such extensive design, myth and world – building! A Centaur’s Life continues to be such a beautiful, wonderful and poignant joy to read, and I am eagerly hoping to see the animated adaptation! I am done, and nyow here is Ellie to tell us about

Girls’ Last Tour vol. 1 & 2!

Arigato! Written and drawn by Tsukumizu, Girls’ last Tour is the sort of slice – of – post – apocalyptic life tale of two girls Chito and Yuri who emerge from the deep levels to explore the outdoor remnants of a vast arcology-ish urban sprawl. In their Kettenkrad motorcycle half-track vehicle, they study books, search for food, water, signs of life and clues to what has happened to the world.

Originally published in Japan in 2014 as Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, the english edition is published in North America by Yen Press, who publishes many manga titles that we crave! Priced at $15.00 in the USA and $19.50 in Canada, volume 1 is 5.75″ x 8.25″ with the 160 Black & White pages that include chapters 1-8 plus some notes, bonus art and the author’s greeting.

Much mecha, architecture & military hardware are depicted by the lavishly detailed art. The technical consultant was Takaaki Suzuki, whose credits include Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer! The manga was translated by Amanda Haley, with the lettering by Abigail Blackman. It is unclear how long the girls have survived or when civilization ended, but it seems very long.

They only have vague knowledge of things such as the Blue sky, tales of things called oceans, wars, and fish. Basic needs such as food, fuel, water and fire are quite sparse, so when they find a fish, a can of soup, a box of rations, or hot water for a soothing bath, these are the rare luxuries for them as they ascend the different strata / levels, headed towards the distant lights.

Encountering other people is also the rarity. In volume 1 they briefly meet a cartographer chap named Kanazawa who has attempted to map the multi-layered city, but soon they part company. In volume 2, Chito and Yuri meet ishii, a girl who has been trying to build an airplane to fly from the city. Unfortunately, Kanazawa and Ishii seem to have the rather hopeless prospects.

Volume 2 has the same price and number of pages, that include chapters 9 – 16 plus the notes, bonus art , a map of the journey thus far, and the author’s message. It was translated by Amanda with the lettering by Xian Michele Lee. Chito and Yuri continue to pontificate things as they traverse the city, pawsing to escape the rain, visit a temple, an apurrtment, and help Ishii.

They try out the camera given to them by Kanazawa, and escape the rain which has the lovely sound and replenishes their water supply. The reconstituted potatoes, hot baths & vehicle repairs that Ishii shares are a wonderful treat. We still have nary a clue as to the age of the city, when or why civilization fell, but it has been long enough for the girls to know not what cheese is.

Like the School-Live! manga which is another slice – of – post – apocalyptic life tale of girls exploring a city in search of other survivors and answers, Girls’ Last Tour is a beautiful, bittersweet, tragic, charming, whimsical, mysterious, and captivating tale which I will give the high praise whilst praying for Chito and Yuri’s safe success! I am done, and now here is Bunnibuns with

some storybook reviews, starting with
Hamster Princess vol. 4: Giant Trouble!

Hai! In this series of delightful story books of anthropomorphic characters, Harriet Hamsterbone is the smart, brave tomboy who craves the adventures in spite of her parents’ wishes for her to be the stereotype princess. It is written & illustrated by Ursula Vernon http://www.ursulavernon.com who was our our guest for the May 2009 Mew!

Ursula is a Hugo and Nebula award winner, World Fantasy and Eisner award nominee known for her beautiful wildlife, anthropomorphic & fantasy art, including her Digger comics, Nurk storybook, and the Dragonbreath series! She is a fellow North Carolinian, and we have a drawing by her of an archer centauress in our art mewseum!

The 5 3/4″ x 7 1/4″, 218 page hardcover was published by Penguin Books’ Dial imprint, and it is priced $12.99 USA and $17.99 Canada. It was designed by Jennifer Kelly, type set in the Minister Std Light font, and has over 130 illustrations of various sizes, including the dozen full – page pics, 3 two – page spreads and the color cover art!

Now for a taste of the plot! While riding her battle quail named Mumfry after a fun day of cliff diving, Princess Harriet meets a cloaked chipmunk solicitor of magickal beans.Thusly in parody of the tale of Jack and the beanstalk, the bean sprouts into a colossal stalk that reaches to the clouds, and she cannot resist the adventurous ascent!

This brings her to the ornery Giant Lop Rabbit’s castle in the sky, in which she meets a goose and a magickal Harpster (part – harp / part hamster) who would rather tour in a heavy metal band than serve the giant, but then Mumfry gets caught, and thusly Harriet has to figure out how to free Mumfry before the quail becomes the supper!

Also appearing are her friend Wilbur & his quail Hyacinth, but I should not further spoil the taste of the brisk, whimsical plot! The dialogue is very pleasant, the characters are smart, and Ursula does wonderful world – building, with vivid descriptions and splendid illustrations, so I will give this book the high praise! Nextly I would like to discuss

Surfside Girls: The Secret of Danger Point!

12 year old Samantha Taylor and Jade Lee are best friends who like to swim, surf, skate, paddle and explore in the lovely coastal town of Surfside, California! However, their summer fun becomes spooky and dangerous after discovering the ghostly undersea grotto, which leads to the conspiracy and supernatural mystery for the girls to investigate!

This full color 236 page graphic novel was written and illustrated by Kim Dwinell who is very athletic and teaches animation at CSU Long Beach in California! The 9″ x 6″ x 3/4″ trade paperback was published by IDW’s Top Shelf imprint, and it is priced $19.99 USA and $25.99 Canada. It was edited by Chris Staros and designed by Gilberto Lazcano.

Sam (with the Red surf board0 has the freckles & Brown hair like her dad who owns the diner and kayak rentals, whilst her younger sister has the Blonde hair like their mom! Jade (with the Green surf board) has the shorter Black hair and the slightly darker tan. Her mom is an architect, her dad is a medical doctor, and they seem to be the stricter parents!

That is convenient, when Sam stays underwater too long whilst investigating the mystery, which is to be bulldozed for the new resort construction. Fortunately the dolphins help Sam, who they have named Sea Kitten! Kawaii! While the girls conduct their research and questionings, their young friend Pete and his pals have discovered a very odd critter!

However, I should not further spoil the taste of the captivating plot! This was such the charming, fun, beautifully rendered tale of the peppy, brave cute girls’ heroic adventure in the beautiful town with the wonderful sense of community, and I will give it the high praise! That will conclude my book reports, and now here is Vonny to present this month’s

Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!

Arigato, nya! In this monthly portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate the famous catgirls of myths and media, from movies, games and TV shows to comics, novels and toys from around the world and across the decades, nya!

Such ladies might range from the anthropurrmorphic feline females and the ailuranthropic shape – shifters of the purrmanent or tempurrary feline purrsuasion; to those nekomimi who are genuinely part cat, to those who might not actually have any kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or style to be considered as “honorary catgirls”, nya!

For September, I will shine the spotlight upon an honorary catgirl, the alien shape – shifter Maya, who was purrtrayed by Catherine Schell in 2nd season of the 1975 British live-action science fiction TV series Space:1999, nya! She could transform herself and her clothes into any living creature including people, plants, critters and monsters for an hour at a time, nya!

The series was created by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson, who were famous for purrior shows such as The Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and U.F.O., nya! The purremise of Space:1999 was that on September 13th1999, the nuclear explosion hurled The Moon out of the Earth’s orbit, and thusly the 300ish crew of the international Moonbase Alpha were lost in the intergalactic space, nya.

They encountered the aliens, monsters, space warps and other strange phenomenon whilst they tried to find the new habitable planets, nya. 342 days later in the 2nd season purremier epurrsode “The Metamorph”, they came upon the planet Psychon, where several of the Alphans were captured, enslaved and / or killed by the planet’s ruler Mentor (purrtrayed by Brian Blessed), nya.

He had already taught his innocent daughter Maya the molecular transformation techniques, and she is first seen in the form of the lioness, nya! She is a peppy, playful, genius young woman with the auburn hair, distinctive eyebrows and sideburn-like make-up, nya. She was shocked to find out what her father had done, and helped the captive Alphans to escape, nya!

However, the planet exploded, so she moved to the Moonbase and later became the new science officer, nya! Maya’s new friends included Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, Dr. Bob Mathias, Dr. Ben Vincent, pilot Alan Carter, data expurrt Sandra Benes, data expurrt Yasuko, security chief / executive officer Tony Verdeschi, nya.

Maya and Tony have the romantic relationship, nya! In the epurrsodes “Catacombs of The Moon” and “The Exiles” she transforms into the panther, in “The Lamda Factor” she transforms into the tiger, and in “The Rules of Luton” she transforms into the lion, nya!

In that epurrsode, Maya says that her mom was entombed on Psychon, which her brother and many others migrated from before it exploded, nya. It is unknown how many others from Psychon still exist, but in “Dorzak” Alpha is visited by the Krotons who met others from Psychon, nya.

That includes the villainous titular character who used to be a friend of Maya but he betrays her, nya. In the final epurrsode “The Dorcons”, which occurs 2409 days after the lunar breakaway, Maya is scared of the Dorcons who are the powerful enemies of the Pyschons and want to steal her brain, nya!

The last we saw of Maya and her friends was of them drinking coffee in Moonbase Alpha’s command center after defeating the Dorcons, but the series ended without disclosing the fate of the Alphans, nya. However, at a fan convention in 1999, actress Zienia Merton repurrised her role as Sandra in the nearly 7 minute final “Message from Moonbase Alpha” written by Johnny Byrne, nya!

In the tearfully emotional farewell set 20 years after the breakaway, Sandra revealed that the crew abandoned the base to colonize the habitable world they have named Terra Alpha, nya! She mentioned that Maya helped her with the message, nya! It is one of the several bonuses in the Space:1999 17 disk DVD MegaSet, nya!

We hope that it was the happy fate for Maya and her friends, nya! You know, Catherine Schell and Brian Blessed both appurred in epurrsodes of Doctor Who, and Zienia Merton appurred in an epuursode of The Sarah Jane Adventures, nya! That is all for this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight portion of The Mew, and nyow here is Petra to tell us about the latest

additions to The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!

Arigato, nya! For those here for the first time, Galleries 1-8 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-4 display images by other folks totally with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya! The images include illustrations, photos and mixed medias, nya!

Some of the images are quite sexy, but none are hentai, nya. On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya! This month we have added new images into Guest Gallery 4 and into Gallery 8, nya!

In Guest Gallery 4 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/guest4.html

we are purroud to purrsent the “Water Magic” by Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, nya! Rebecca is an illustrator, photographer, cosplayer, mewsician and baker, nya! She used the pencil, pen & colored pencils on the toned papurr to illustrate our friend Angelina who is beautifully peppy Thuy Tien (water nymph) wearing the towel and bikini that barely cover her voluptuous body amidst the playful splay of knee – deep water, mew la la, nya!

Then we have Rebecca’s purretty pencil, pen and copic marker illustration of our shyly winsome Pacific Island Sylph friend “Dr. Grace”, nya! Dr. Grace Maeladrial is a veterinarian who recently moved to here from Kailua, Hawaii, nya! She has the Cocoa – colored skin and the ankle – length silky Black hair, nya! She is wearing the sexy ruffled Green gown with the plunging neckline, detached sleeves and apurron that wonderfully match her lovely Lemon Chiffon and Gold lepidopteran wings, nya!

Nextly we are delighted to display this cute colored pencil kitty wishing us a “Meow-y Cat-mas” by Alexcia Reynolds http://www.sailorchristmas.com who was a guest of the August 2010 Mew, nya! Alexcia is an author, artist, craftspurrson who draws, writes stories, makes plushies, original and fan sites, nya! She also has the gallery at DeviantArt http://professoroak.deviantart.com, nya! Festively wearing the Santa hat and Green collar with the bell, purrhaps kitty will be treated to milk and cookies, nya!

Then in Gallery 8 http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery/gallery8.html

we have Mike’s illustration of a “Nyanko Catnap”, which depicts our dear Nya-sensei wearing the panty and the short, sexy, semi – sheer nightgown as she awakens upon her comfy king – sized platform bed, in her bedroom with the shoji wall and door panels, nya! Illustrated with Photoshop CS2 and the mouse, this is the companion piece to the illustration of her twin sister Nyo-sensei in bed, which is also displayed within Gallery 8, nya! It was well timed too, as their birthdays are on September 1st, nya! So, what do y’all think of the art. nya?

Wahhh! I’m not worthy! Domo arigato gozaimasu! (cries happily)

I think she likes it, heehee!

The Ladies of The Mew:

Nyanko & Nyoka
Arigato gozaimasu!

I think the pic of sis captures her musculature, purrtraiture and spurrit with the neglige, linens and the translucent view of the garden!

The rear view of Nya-sensei in the brighter room is the good contrast with the frontal view pic of Nyo-sensei in the darker room, nya!

I think that the Meow-y Cat-mas so adorably cute, nya! Neko has the peppy perked ears and – and the lovely Golden tabby coat, nya!

Hai hai, I also like the neko’s pleased expurression, the soft fluffy trim of the hat, and the dainty widdle bell on the collar! Kawaii-desu!

It is so nice to have more of Alexcia’s art in our mewseum! She creates such delightful characters, illustrations, plushies, tales and sites!

It was so nice to be revisited by some of them back in February for the awards ceremony, and in May for our 10th Anniversary Mew!

It is so nice to have more of Rebecca’s art too. The towel has the great fabric folds and drapurry as it slides down Angelina shoulders.

She has such a cheerful expression, gestures and pose with the lovely hair, rosy cheeks, gleaming eyes, supple ears and lustrous lips!

She has the most captivating gaze, but I suspect that her voluptuous body in the skimpy bikini will also attract much attention, heehee!

Mary Nyan:
I hope that Angelina and Grace are happy with their beautiful, faithful illustrations! Grace is like a majestic orchid in bloom!

The illustration of Grace splendidly conveys her quiet serenity, her lithe physique, her lush hair, and her wonderful wings!

Fur shur!

I’m glad that Nya-sensei likes her pic, and that we have more great art by Rebecca and Alexcia! Ah, well, Petra, thank you for presenting the art!

Dooitashimaste, nya!

The cat lady sings…

Gosh, it looks like Tara-chan made it to the end without getting distracted, heehee!

Well, the night is still young!

Fortunately, I got a good photo of an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail earlier today, nya!

It is about time for more friends to arrive for the AfterMew Luau!

I will serve the cocktails!

Well, I guess that will wrap it up for another edition of The Mew!

We wish to thank Alexcia and Rebecca for the beautiful art…

…the other talented folks whose works we discussed…
