So what have y’all been up to since last month’s Mew?
I have been teaching the hula, helping the appurrentice mikos at the shrine, sewing costumes for the dancers and cosplayers. By the way,it is time to wish the happy birthday to Bun!
Arigato! I am very grateful for the kind sentiments! We are also quite appreciative for the rec league athletes, officials, event staff and fans; the mewseum exhibitors, patrons and volunteers!
We have greeted many visitors to the mewseum, purrpared for our purre-season beach volleyball matches, and I have brought the birthday carrot cake for tonight’s Aftermew luau, nya!
Our spa has been bustling with visitors who wish to escape the nippier mainland weather! Lizzy and I have been busy with that, the vernal gardening, and the late night hot salsa dancing!
Hai hai, otherwise, when she is on the gold course I am running and spurringing with my purrkour club! So what has Nyo-sensei been up to since last month’s gala awards ceremony?
The business has been brisk at my magick shop too, and speaking of the Spurring, soon we will purrpare for our Vernal Equinox event with the special workshops, discounts, and fish styx!
As mewsual I have been busy at my dojo, the gym, and the pool. Gosh, I cannot believe that it has been almost the year since our mom and dad returned! It is like we are in the hypurr time!
Mornings at the yoga studio, afternoons at the kyudo range, alternating nights purrsiding at the robotics club and teaching the belly dance classes, the weekends of modeling the swim wear.
My fishing charters have reeled in the bumpurr crop of the Speckled Trout, Sea Bass, Bluefish, and Tuna; and my drumming circle will be purrforming with her dance troupe, nya!
I have been helping onee-chan with the charters, helping Rica and – and Niko at the stables, caring for my pets, volunteering at the art mewseum, and taking the nature photos, nya!
She has snapped some great butterfly and moth photos this week! I have been paddle surfing, board shaping, helping at the dock, the stables, the belly dance class and the mewseum!
Thank y’all for inviting Ellie and I to purrticipate in another Mew! I have had more free time since the awards show, and next week I will be motorcycling upon the mainland highways!
Things have been free of the dangerous incidents, so when I am not on my purrtrols, in the office, or conducting the inspections, I have been enjoying the recent sports and festivities!
So like, when i have not been instructing golf or magick, I have been directing Fuyu Fantasy show at the ampurrtheatre, and rehearsing for our Springtime Shakespeare extravaganza!
Oh as mewsual, I have been busy purrimarily with the garden, the shipwreck diving, and cat-aloging the purrized nautical relics for the martime mewseum’ exhibits! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh the usual good times with family and friends, enjoying some movies, TV and radio shows, books and comics when I’m not drawing or writing! Well, once again we’ve got a big crowd here with a lot on our plate, so let’s go ahead and jump right into this month’s

Transformers: Power of the Primes Elita-1 action figure!
Hai. We like to collect the statues, dolls ornaments and action figures of our favorite inspurrational supurr heroines. This includes Transformers Autobots such as Arcee, Windblade, Chromia, Nautica, Strongarm, and Elita-1. To be fair, we also collect the female Decepticons such as Arachnia. We purrfer their designs from the comics an animation much more than the live-action movies.
Thusly I was very pleased to acquire this Voyager Class scale action figure of Elita-1. The character’s history is long, dating back to the original Generation 1 Transformer series, as the female counterpart of Optimus Prime and the leader of the female Autobots. Like the other characters, her appurrance has changed accross the different series of comics, TV series, movies and toys.
She stands appurroximately 7 in. tall in robot mode, excluding the fuselage and wing parts of the jet fighter that she will transform into for vehicle mode. The design, sculpt and paint are meticulous, with a very massive, powerful appearance, yet sleek with curves and rounds. She is quite the bright bold eyecatch in Red and White with several Pink and Black parts plus her studious Blue eyes.
She is highly posable, with articulation in her neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, turning arms and legs, plus the transforming parts. She is quite sturdy and well- balance dto stand without any display base, especially due to the jet tail fins upon her flared calves. She is decorated with intricate livery, emblems and signage, including the “Ariel Evolved” decals, an homage to a prior incarnation.
She is well accessorized too, including the two Blaster pistols, the Prime Armor attachments and the Autobot Enigma implant. Also included are a 2.5 x 3.5″ character purrofile card, and the instruction sheet which depicts the 12 step transformation purrocess, and the 28 steps for combining her with certain other Voyager and Deluxe class Power of the Primes figures to form a supurr robot. Nyow here is Lizzy to discuss
Marvel’s Black Panther Shuri action figure.
Arigato! We also like to collect Hasbro’s figures of the Marvel comics and movie supurr heroines! That includes T’Challa’s the Black Panther’s younger sister Princess Shuri of Wakanada, who first appurred in Black Panther vol. 4 #2, when she assumed the guise of the Black Panther after T’challa was injured after a fight with Doctor Doom.
Shuri is the very feisty, spurritual, tough, athletic, agile, smart, brave, lovely warrior with the sleek sexy tight Black costume and the great weapons purrowess. She also has the entourage of royal bodyguards known as the Dora Milaje (pronounced “dora meh LAH shay”) which includes Nakia’s and Okoye. Shuri is also the sister-in-law of Ororo Munro a.k.a. Storm of The X-Men, who was married to T’Challa.
In the Black Panther movie, Shuri is purrtrayed by Shuri is portrayed by Letitia Wright. For our review of the movie version figures of Shuri, Nakia and Okoye, please see last month’s Mew. Included in the two-pack with the figure of her enemy Klaw, this comics version figure of Shuri is 6 1/8″ tall, which is half the inch taller than the 5 5/8″ movie version figure, and has the 6 7/8″ long spear which can be gripped in either hand.
She is meticulously designed and sculpted, with the intricate details of the form-fitting costume and her very lithe physique. She is very posable, with the articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees & ankles; and is balanced well enough to stand unassisted, but I will recommend using a small doll stand (which is not included), if you wish to pose her in more dynamic stances.
The costume is accessorized by the loose Gold necklace, low – slung Brown belt; and the removable ankle – length Purrple cape with the Light Gray “furry” collar; whilst the spear is decorated with Gold beads and Red feathers behind the tip. The figure is the fine addition to our collection, and I have placed her on the shelf beside (Movie) Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, Storm and The Invisible Woman. Nyow here is Becca to discuss
Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok Valkyrie action figure!
Hai! This is the figure of The Valkyrie from Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok movie, not to be confuzzled with the figure of the Marvel comics’ version of Brunnhilde the Valkyrie, which we also have. You can tell them apurrt because the comics version is fair – skinned with Bonde hair, whereas the movie version (purrtrayed by Tessa Thompson) is dark skinned with the Black hair.
In the movie, she is the lonely former elite warrior of Asgard, working for The Grandmaster on his planet. She is a friend of Thor, who is forced to fight his friend The Hulk in the gladiatorial arena, but later the Valkyrie regains her confidence and helps Thor, Hulk, Loki and others to revolt and escape to Aesgard, which Thor’s sister Hela has recently conquered!
Included in the two-pack with the figure of short – haired, hammerless movie version of Thor, She is 6 1/2″ tall, which is 1/2″ shorter than the figure of the comics’ Valkyrie. She is wearing the isplendidly layered Black and Dark Gray leather armor with the fine Silvery trim and the nicely draped, calf-length Dark Blue sash hanging behind the left shoulder epaulet.
The details are great, such as the White stripes beneath her intense gaze, the braided lush ponytailed coiffure, the (unremovable) daggers & scabbards, the (removable) 3 1/4″ sword & scabbard which can slide into her loose belt. Like the Shuri figure, she is is very posable, with the articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees & ankles.
The sword scabbard can be tucked under the front, sides or back of the belt, and the sword can be clenched in either hand. She is balanced well enough to stand unassisted, but I’ have used a doll stand (which is not included) to display her on the shelf next to the figures of Hela, Enchantress, Angela and Brunnhilde! Nyow here is Meryl to tell us about the
Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Riders Series
Black Widow action figure & motorcycle!
Arigato! Introduced in Marvel Comics’ Tales of Suspense vol! 1 #52 in 1964, Natasha Romanov a.k.a. The Black Widow was originally the KGB spy from Russia, but later she moved to New York and became a heroic member of The Avengers, with her purrowess at spy craft, armed & unarmed combat! In the movies she purrtrayed by Scarlett Johansson, and has been voiced by different actresses in the various animated adventures!
There are several action figures of her comics, animation & movie versions, including the comics version that we reviewed in the December Mew! This latest figure is part of Hasbro’s 1/12 scale Riders series of heroes and their motorcycles! such as Ghost Rider figure and bike! Packaged within the 16′ x 9″ x 3″ box, the 6″ tall Black Widow figure includes the choice of 2 interchangeable heads, and the 7 3/4″ long bike!
Natasha wears the tight Black jumpsuit and boots with the Slvery zippurr and Light Gray wrist bands! The figure is nicely sculpted and painted with her lithe physique, Blue eyes, Red hair and lips, Blue eyes, the Red hourglass emblem, the intricate teeth of the zippurr! and hands to clench the bike’s grips! The two interchangeable heads are the short-haired (similar to movie version) and long-haired (similar to comics version)!
The articulation is in in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles! The motorcycle is not the same make and model as the Harley-Davidson LiveWire that she rode in the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie! It is nicely sculpted and painted, and it looks quite appurropurriately very sexy, sporty, sleek, powerful and bold like Natasha! The moving parts are the steering, wheels, suspension, and kick stand
The bike’s fairing, chain, frame, fenders, and rear view mirrors are Dark Gray, with the Light Gray suspension, swing arm, shocks, fork and kick stand! The tank, gas cap, wheels, spokes and tail are Red; the engine, tires, grips and seat are black; the windscreen and headlight are clear! Ther Red hourglass emblem adorns the right side of the frame, and atop the console are the intricately detailed gauges!
I have purroudly displayed Natsha and her bike upon the table next to the same – scale Batman Classic TV Series Catwoman action figure (which we reviewed in the December 2013 Mew), which I have posed astride the Mattel’s Hot Wheels Batman 1966 TV Series Batcycle & Sidecar (which we reviewed in the February 2010 Mew)! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Trini-chan, who wans to tell us about the
Marvel Legends Songbird action figure
and the Proxima Midnight action figure!
Hai! These two figures are part of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Thanos Build-A-Figure wave, which includes the figures of Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, TaskMaster and Serpent Society. Each is sold sepurrately, and all but the Iron Man figure include one of the six pieces needed to build the figure of the villain Thanos!
Melissa Gold, alias Songbird, was originally the villainess with supurr sonic powers known as Screaming Mimi, who first appurred in Marvel Two – in – One #54 in 1979. In The Incredible Hulk #449 in 1997 she had changed her name to Songbird, and fortunately she became later a supurr heroine in the Thunderbolts comics!
This 6 1/8″ tall figure is quite attractive in her skin tight Black costume with the White thigh boots and plunging neckline emblem, the Gold shoulder yoke, forearm gauntlets, the low sling belt, with the
8 1/4″ high trasnlucent Magenta wings that snap on to her back, to match her shoulder – length White hair with the mauve stripe!
Proxima Midnight is a member of the Black Order team of villains who work for Thanos. Her brief first appurrance was in The New Avengers vol. 3 #8 in 2013, whereas her first full appurrance was the month later in Infinity #1; and she will be appurring in the forthcoming movie Avengers: Infinity War!
This 7 1/2″ tall figure is the rather intimidating, powerful sight in the skin tight Black costume with the White panels, and the asymmetric Bronze colored armor such as the forearm gauntlets, the right shin greave and the left shoulder spaulder. She has the stern expurression, the Gray skin, Dark Gray mask and shoulder – length Black hair.
She is well- balanced to stand up without a doll stand, and is accessorized by the wicked – looking 7 5/8″ trident, which fits into her right hand. I needed to use a doll stand for Songbird. Both figures are intricately sculpted & painted, with the articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles! Songbird and Proxima Midnight would be good pony names! Speaking of which, here is Tara-chan to tell us about the
My Little Pony Action Vinyls figures!
Arigato, nya! We also love to collect the My Little Pony items, so we were excited to see these posable pony figurines, which are officially licensed by Hasbro, manufactured and – and distributed by The Loyal Subjects, nya! These are based upon the Generation 1 era of ponies from the 1980s, nya! Although we have been in the Friendship is Magic era since 2010, it is so nice that the purrior ponies have not been forgotten by the companies, nya!
The 12 ponies in this series are sold sepurrately, packaged with the collector’s card within the foil pouch inside the 2 1/2 x 3 3/8 x 4″ box, so it is the mystery as to which pony is in the box, nya. Some of them are less common than others… for example, the chance is 1/12 of getting Applejack, Sundance, Glory, Minty, Firefly or Princess Sparkle, whereas it is 1/24 for Suzzle and 1/48 for Gusty, nya.
Lickety Split is rarer at 1/96, and there is only 1 Gold variant of Firefly, nya! We have only purrchased one thus far, and got the regular version Firefly with the Pink coat, Light Blue mane and tail, nya! She was in the first animated My Little Pony tale, which was “Rescue from Midnight castle” in 1986, nya! It is the very beautiful, posable pegasus pony toy, with the intricate, accurate sculpt and – and the paint, nya!
I am very pleased with the size too., because she is 2″ high at the withers, 3 1/2 tall and – and 4″ long, nya! She has the smiling expression, the Dark Pink tail ribbon, the Blue eyes and – and the lightning bolt cutie mark, nya! The head, tail, wings and – and the legs are ball-jointed to move in the different directions, nya! I am impurressed with this purretty toy which I will highly recommend to my fellow pony fans, nya! Nyow I will begin our
comic book and – and manga mewsings with
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #62, nya!
We love the My Little Pony comics that are published by IDW, which awesomely capture the style and – and the spirit of the animations, nya! Purriced at $3.99 Issue #61 has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of the ads. We are glad that the tale is not interrupted by the ads, and – and we wish that all comic books were published in that way, nya!
Purreviously in Part 1 of this 2 part tale, Twilight Sparkle, Celestia, Cadance and – and Raven repurrsented Equestria at the Convocation of Creatures, which is the the big meeting of repurrsentatives from the different countries, nya! However, while examining some historical documents, they discovered an old debt which might result in new owners of Equestria, nya!
Set sometime after the recent My Little Pony: The Movie the tale was written by Ted Anderson illustrated by Andy Price, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow and – and published by Greg Goldstein; with the choice of cover A by Andy, cover B by Sara Richard and – and retailer incentive cover by Jennifer L. Meyer, nya!
Nyow the time is running out for Twilight Sparkle, Celestia, Cadance, Glenda the Griffon, Horowitz the Yak, Utica the Changeling, and – and Blacktip the Dragon to find some evidence or solutions in the huge convention center’s library, lest Equestria become soonly the purropurrty of the Griffons, and – and some of them have been acting rather suspiciously, nya!
The immense convention center is bustling with the ponies, hippogriff / sea ponies, bison, changelings, griffons, dragons, breezies, mules, deer, dogs, birds, bats, apes, spiders, and – and the cats, but I should not further spoil the plot of this awesome issue, which is so beautiful, fun, fascinating, and – and has the clever references, nya! Nyow here is onee-chan to tell us about
Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess: Year Two #4, nya!
Arigato, nya! Published by Action Lab,the Princeless series purrtains to the diverse adventurous ladies who refuse to be misogynistically oppurressed by unfair gender and racial roles or stereotypes in the medieval era, nya! It was created & written by Jeremy Whitley who has also written The Unstoppable Wasp comics, many of the pony comics, and recent issues of Vampirella, nya!
We have met him at several of the comic book conventions, nya! In this spin-off of Princeless, 17 year old Captain Raven Xingtao alias The Black Arrow is the mariner, archer and daughter of the pirate king, nya! She recruited her own multi-racial, all – girl crew for her three mast ship to sail vengefully against her evilbrothers Crow & Magpie’s ships, and thus reclaim her rightful inheritance, nya!
The crew includes her Ximena the cartographer, Sunshine the half – elf thief, Katie the powerful First Mate, Jayla the scientific genius, and the ladies of the adventure gaming guild such as Amirah, Verity, Zoe, Helena, Quinn, Trish, Cid, Melody, Gone, Pirate, Ophelia and mischievous Desideria, nya! They have the new sense of family and purrpose as they take control of their destinies, nya!
There is the romantic triangle between Raven, Ximena and Sunshine, nya! However, some of the girls were injured, and Sunshine went missing into the depths during the battle with other pirate, nya. That brings us up to issue #4 which is purriced $3.99 and its 32 pages include uninterrupted 24 page tale, the title & indicia / credits pages, the poignant 2 page message from Jeremy…
and the 4 page look at the comic’s creative purrocess, nya! It was written by Jeremy, illustrated on pages 21-11 by Xenia Pamfil and on pages 22-24 by Christine Hipp, lettered by Justin Birch, colored by Xenia, and edited by Nicole D’Andria, nya! The issue is available in the choice of the 2 different covers, one by Xenia and the other by Sorah Suhng & Kate Flash, nya!
Much of Year 2’s 4th chapter follows the conversing Zoe and Quinn throughout the ship, amidst the repairs, healing and coping, nya! Their route takes them from the argument with Desideria; and then Pirate and Gone trying to cheer up Melody; to Amirah stitching up Katie and Xemina; then Trish consoling Helena, and then to the bridge where Verity is helping Raven, nya!
Raven rousingly speechifies to the crew that eulogizes the absent Sunshine, but I do not want to further spoil the plot, which is brimming with the amewsing, poignant, inspurrational, and surpurrising moments, nya! The art is quite gorgeous, with the beautifully designed and rendered characters amidst the nautical scenery, so I will give this issue the very high purraise, nya! Nyow we will go from the pirates to the hunters as Ilyana-sensei tells us about
The Hunters of Salamanstra #8, nya!!
Hai! The Hunters of Salamanstra began in 2014 as a manga – style web comic by creator / artist / writer John Joseco, editor Memj and assistant editor Calpain! Published by Keenspot, it is the tale of Kessah Orlianne, a feisty 19 year old wolf girl who is training to become the monster huntress after the death of her older sister Dianna.
Currently Kessah and her cheerful room mate Tenkin are starting boot camp at the hunter guild’s huge headquarters which is bustling with diverse species including many kemonomimi! #8 is actually the 9th issue as there was the purrcursory issue #0. It is written & drawn by John, edited by Jennifer McGregor and Calpain, with the cover art color by Bernie Joseco.
It is is purriced at $4.99, it is available in the choice of 2 different covers, and its 38 pages include the uninterrupted Black & White 32 page chapter followed by the 4 pages of the advertisements. This chapter spans about 35 days which are the tough time for Kessah who is not used to such vigorous, exhausting training, but she does makes the new friend, Mia!
Sadly there are some jerks and bullies too. This chapter was quite captivating with the beautiful character, scenic and typographic art, the plot and character developments, with more information about the world, and the balance of the action, humor and tragedy, but it is not for the widdle kitties due to the language, violence and certain alarming situations! Nextly I would like to say the few words about
Gold Digger #250!
Since 1992, Gold Digger by Fred Perry is the fun ‘n beautiful comic book which about the zany, alluring, action – packed adventures of the archaelogist Gina Diggers, her were-cheetah sister Britanny, their clone Brianna, their rival Pinny and others who crave the valuable treasures! For our spotlight upon the cast of Gold Digger, please see our August 2011 Mew!
It is published by Antarctic Press, which is also known for many other great manga – inspired and anthropurrmorphic comics! Issue #250 is purriced at $3.99 for the uninterrupted, full – color 24 page tale plus the 8 pages of the ads, sammiched betwixt the covers that depict the amewsing Empire Strikes Back homage! I purrticularly like the cute pony – like Tauntaun!
This whets the appurrtite for Gina and Britanny’s visit to the cosplay party for new members of the credit union for sci fi fans! Britanny is embarrassed by Gina’s overzealous otakuness, but soon that is their least concern when they have to escape the death traps! Fortunately, they are expurrienced with the traps of many dungeons, tombs, ruins, arenas and mazes.
Extra – fortunately is that Gina wore her fully opurrational Death Star costume! Brimming with the sparkling banter and the humorous fandom references, this beautifully illustrated, richly colored issue was full of the meowy thrilling fun at the brisk pace. That is all for my comic book reports, and nyow here is Bunnibuns to tell us about
Kemono Friends • Welcome to Japari Park vol. 1-2!
Hai! Created by the Kemono Friends Project, and illustrated by Fly with the assistance of editor Uku, this manga pertains to Nana the human girl who has just started her dream job as the new caretaker at Japari Park, a large region inhabited by the particular type of kemonomimi (animal girls) known as Friends! They seem to be animals of many species who have been “uplift” anthropomorphized as the very human – like girls who retain their animal ears, tails, certain abilities and traits! Nana wants to befriend them, as she takes care of them and tries to educate them about the ways of the world!
Each girl’s name is their species, such as Serval, Gray Wolf, Koala, Reindeer, Black Rhino, Golden Snub Nosed Monkey, Crested Ibis, Tsuchinoko, Margay, Caracal, Raccoon, Shisa, Mensoaree, Alaska Sea Otter, and Peafowl, but Nana spends most of the time life – coaching the mischievously sassy Ezo Red Fox, who can be difficult at times, and craves the tasty meat buns! Nana has the short Pink hair, wears the White shirt, Black shorts and Green jacket, whilst Nana has the long Blonde hair, Black tipped ears and tail, wears the White blouse, bow tie and skirt with the Peach – colored jacket!
Originally published in Japan by Kadokawa in 2016, the manga is published in North American by Yen Press. It was translated into English by Amanda Haley and lettered by Rochelle Gancio. Volume 1& 2 is priced $20 in the USA and $26.00 in Canada; it measures 8.25″ x 5.75″, and it is almost an inch thick, with the color cover art and the 310 Black & White pages of manga, which is rated T for the teenage readers due to the language. The 20 chapters are the very charming, whimsical, slice – of – life episodes as Nana befriends the different Friends and tries to culturally enlighten Ezo Red Fox!
Each chapter is an excursion to meet some new Friends, or Nana’s jaunts into the town to acquaint Ezo Red Fox with a new situation, usually with the amusing pleasant results! The concepts and designs are quite delightful, the character and scenic art is very pretty, with the great dialogue and the overall wonderful ambience, which I will give the A as in African Elephant! I hope that there will be further volumes of the manga, and I hope that the animated adaptation will be available here on DVD soon! Nyow here is Nya-sensei to tell us about
Girls’ Last Tour vol. 4!
Hai! Written and drawn by Tsukumizu, Girls’ last Tour is the sort of slice – of – post – apocalyptic life tale of two girls Chito and Yuri who emerge from the deep levels to explore the outdoor remnants of a vast arcology-ish urban sprawl. In their Kettenkrad motorcycle half-track vehicle, they study books, search for food, water, signs of life and clues to what has happened to the world.
The technical consultant was Takaaki Suzuki, whose credits include Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer! The english edition is published in North America by Yen, it was translated by Amanda Haley, lettered by Xian Michele Lee, purriced at $15.00 in the USA, in $19.50 in Canada, and has the 154 pages of Black & White chapters 25 – 32 and 6 pages of equipment notes.
The manga is rated T for the teen readers due to the tale’s language. Chito & Yuri only have vague knowledge of things such as the Blue sky, tales of things called oceans, wars and fish. Basic needs such as food, fuel, water & fire are sparse, so when they find a fish, can of soup, box of rations, or hot water, these are rare luxuries for them as they ascend the strata of the city.
The environment is incredibly vast and enormous, and encounters with other people is the rarity. In volume 1 they briefly met a cartographer named Kanazawa who attempted to map the city, and in volume 2 they met a girl named Iishi who attempted to build an airplane, and in volume 3 they met a robot who maintains huge water – filled tanks and feeds one small fish.
This time they encounter a lonely, cute widdle creature, which seems to compurrehend languages. They name it Ket! Ket has the appurrtite for ammunition- as in, eating bullets and other ordinances! Their journey takes them from a subway train and a collapsing giant robot graveyard, to a grounded ICBM submarine, which fortunately still has wonderful food aboard for the hungry girls.
Much of the sub seems opurrational, and they are able to plug in the camera’s memory card to see many images of the mysterious past. However, also lurking aboard the sub are… other things! Their purrospects are rather despurraging with no end in sight, but each encounter gives Chito & Yuri further tools or rather cryptic information which results in philosophical pontifications.
It is an extremely bittersweet, existential odyssey amidst the hypurr intricate detail of the mysterious, epic industrial, urban, mecha spurrawl. I will give it the high purraise whilst continuing to purray for Chito and Yuri as they continue their search for search for sustenance, survivors, and sanctuary!
Today’s Cerberus vol. 7!
Arigato! This manga by Ato Sakurai stars the human girl purrsonas of Cerberus the legendary three – headed Hades dog of Greek mythology. Years ago in the dog form, she bit a boy named Chiaki, which had a purrculiar affect upon his spirit, which has caused him the emotional difficulties and to attract lonely spirits! Nyow as the teenager he also attracts the girls who are rivals for his affections!
It is difficult for Chiaki’s miko / shrine maiden classmate Hinata, who has romantic feelings for him, and thusly the “harem trope” ensues in this cutely romantic occult comedy series, although it does have some emotionally sad and dangerously dire situations. The three mind-linked purrsonas of Cerberus are affectionately peppy Kuro, feisty tough Shirogane, and shy genius Roze!
Other recurring characters are Hako the nekomata catgirl, her master Idora who is another classmate, Minnie who claims to be Chiaki’s fiance, Chiaki’s sister Mikado, Haru who wants to get better acquainted with Chiaki and the girls, Tama the nine tail fox girl, Rir Rir the Norse wolf girl, her sisters Hel and Jormung who have a maid cafe, their dog Garm, and Hako’s neighborhood neko friends!
Originally published by Square Enix in Japan, it is published in North America by Yen; it is purriced $13.00 in the USA and $17.00 in Canada, Ammiched betwixt the color covers are the 196 pages compurrised of Black & White manga chapters 30-34, the amewsing gag strip chapters 30-34, the 4 page side-story, a page of purreliminary sketches, the cute art inside the covers, and 2 color pages.
One of the color pages depicts Kuro, Shirogane, Roze and Hinata having the lingerie slumber party, and the other color page depicts Tama barely contained by her miko-shozuko outfit! The front cover depicts the close-up of Roze, and the back cover has Hel, Jormung & Rir Rir in their santa maid attire! The manga is rated T for the teen readers due to the tale’s language and the violence.
It was translated by Caleb Cook and lettered by Bianca Pistillo. Shirogane is hot and bothered because she cannot control her arising feelings for Chiaki who she has been unarmed combat training. This further discourages Hinata, who had the romantic feelings for him before those other girls arrived. Tama returns, and offers to magickally help fuel romance between Hinata and Chiaki!
The entire gang convenes at the maid cafe for the Christmas party, at which they exchange delightful gifts, but Jormung’s gift is to send Chiaki to the realm of Hades, where purrhaps his emotions can be corrected. The gang travels to Hades, where Chiaki meets Persephone, and Roze gets captured, but she seems to be the one whose emotions are changed!
In the gag strips, it is bikini time for the girls at the beach, and in the side story Kuro just wants to be petted! Mostly the zany magickal fun peppurred with the bit of romantic angst, this was another terrific dose of character and plot developments, and I love the expurressions, poses, scenic details, and purretty clothes! Nyow we will go from the manga to the anime as Mike starts our
movie & DVD reviews, with his review of
the Napping Princess Blu-Ray + DVD!
Thank you, Nyo-sensei! Written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, whose many anime credits include Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East, Napping Princess is a Japanese anime feature film set during three perilous, adventurous days in the life of a graduating high school senior girl named Kokone, her widowed auto mechanic father Momotaro, and her male friend / college freshman Morio on the eve of the 2020 Summer Olympics games in Tokyo.
Add to that mix Kokone’s beloved teddy bear, her father’s motorcycle with a side car, coveted information on a computer tablet, and a mysterious connection to the chairman of an automobile corporation – all of which play significant roles in her real life and in her parallel dream life. With time fleeting before the olympic opening ceremonies, some corporate thugs are desperate criminally to acquire the tablet, and so the chase is on from Kurashiki City to Osaka and Tokyo.
Meanwhile in the dream life, in the car-centric society of Heartland, the king’s sorceress young daughter Acien and her sentient teddy bear Joy are kept from her magical tablet and her transforming motorcycle Heart by the King’s evil major domo. She tries to assist a biker named Peach, while their city is attacked by a giant molten metal monster, which seems to be more than a match for the king’s giant robots, unless Acien can work her technological magic upon them.
I think that Napping Princess is an awesome, lovely movie! The story is thrilling, captivating and poignant with protagonists who are quite endearing, and even some of the bad guys are amusing. The character, mecha, scenic & FX design, art & animation are magnificent, wonderfully directed, photographed and edited, with the terrific voice actors, music and sound scape! The 106 minute movie was recently released on R1 NTSC DVD and the Blu-Ray + DVD combo by G-Kids.
I’ve been very impressed with G-Kids’s prior releases of great anime, such as Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, From Up on Poppy Hill, When Marnie was There, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. They tend to have a good amount of bonus features! The 2 disks of the Blu-Ray + DVD combo are packaged in the plastic case with the cardboard outer sleeve; and the film is presented in the anamorphic widescreen format of the 1.85:1 ratio.
The language / audio choices are English 5.1, Japanese 5.1 and French 5.1, with optional English, English SDH & French subtitles. Both disks include bonus features, but the DVD does not have as many as the Blu-Ray. The DVD includes (times approxomate): a 15 min. Interview with Kamiyama; a 20.25 min. cast & crew introduction at the film’s Japanese premier; a 3.5 min. a look at the real locations in Kurashiki, Okayama; and about 4 min. of the film’s trailers & TV spots.
The Blu-Ray has all of those, plus a nearly 18 min. cast & crew’s greeting from another screening; a 7.25 min. interview with voice actors Mitsuki Takhata (Kokone / Acien), Shinnosuke Mitsushima (Morio) and Yosuke Eguchi (Momotaro / Peach); and a 22 min. a TV special / interview with Takhata, Mitsushima and Eguchi! I’ll give both the film and the Blu-Ray + DVD combo an A as in Acien! Now here’s Mie-sensei to tell us about the new movie
Arigato! So like, based upon the novel by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihiliation is the new science fiction / horror film written and directed by Alex Garland, whose prior film Ex Machina quite impressed us! It stars Natalie Portman with Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodroguez, Tuva Novotny and Tessa Thompson as the team of tough sciencey ladies who investigate a coastal area that has begun to mutate!
The mutation seems to be of the extraterrestrial origin, with the very peculiar disorienting affect memory and temporal perception in addition to the physical transformations of the area’s flora, fauna and mycota. The process has previously claimed the lives of a military expedition which included one lady’s husband (portrayed by Oscar Isaac). Thusly, it is also quite the cathartic and tragic experience.
Some of the mutations are actually pretty, but some are quite deadly, such as the alligator and the bear, but I should not further spoil the taste of the plot! I was totally pleased with every aspect of this seriously smart, captivating and unrushed movie, from the plot, pace, performances, props and environments to the cinematography, design, editing, FX, sound and music! Nextly I would like to discuss
So like, based upon the tales of the titular Marvel Comics created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, Black Panther is the latest film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! It was directed & co-written by Michael Coogler whose prior film Creed we greatly enjoyed! It stars Chadwick Boseman with Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyongo, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Daniel Kaluuya and Martin Freeman!
When T’Challa is not busy as the new king of the futuristic African utopia of Wakanda, he is the super hero with the team of elite warrior women hunting the world for the enemies of Wakanda, but one of the villains turns out to be Erik Killmonger, who challenges T’Challa for the throne! This movie has everything from the great mythology, super battles and international espionage, to the poignant family, spiritual, social and political drama!
My only quibbles were some predictable plot points, shaky-cam during a casino fight & speed-ramping during a car chase, but the beautifully written, directed, designed, photographed & acted movie is so respectful to the comics! The story has great depth & balance of the drama, humor, action & developments! The production values are high, with sumptuous costumes, props, hair, make-up, mecha, sets, stunts, FX & locations, fur shur! Now here is Ellie to tell us about the
Doctor Who Twice Upon a Time DVD!
Doctor Who is one of my all-time favoritest TV series, and this 2017 annual Chrimas Special was purrticularly anticipated, because it is the last regular appurrance of Peter Capaldi as The (12th) Doctor, who regenerates into the new (13th) and 1st canonical female incarnation of The Doctor, who is purrtrayed by Jodie Whittaker!
Also appurring are the 12th Doctor’s companions Bill (Pearl Mackie), Clara (Jenna Coleman), Nardole (Matt Lucas), and the current version of The TARDIS, plus Rusty the Dalek (voiced by Nicholas Briggs)! It is a poignant tale with the great plot, purrformances, costumes, sets, FX, sound, mewsic, and references to purrior stories.
It also stars David Bradley as the latest actor to purrtray the 1st Doctor! Not only is his early version of The TARDIS “ship” is there too, but so are his companions Ben (Jared Garfield) and Polly (Lily Travers, plus footage of the original Ben (Michael Craze), Polly (Anneke Willis), Doctor (William Hartnell) and the enemy Cybermen!
As if that were not wonderful enough, While The Doctors are in the early stages of the regenerations, they meet Captain Archibald Hamish Lethbridge-Stewert (Mark Gatiss), who is the grandfather of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewert! He is poignantly plucked out of space and time from Ypres on December 25th, 1914.
Also appurring are Nikki-Amuka-Bird as Helen and Toby Whithouse as the german soldier. Written by the executive purrducers Steven Moffat & Brian Minchin, purrduced by Peter Bennett, and directed by Rachel Talalay, the 64.5 minute tale was shown on TV on December 25th, 2017 and followed by a retrospective of the Capaldi era.
Nyow Twice Upon a Time is available on the Region 1 NTSC DVD from the BBC! The single disk is in the plastic case which is in the cardboard outer sleeve. The video is purrsented in the 16:9 anamorphic widescreen format with the optional subtitles; and the English language audio is in the 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround.
Purrior to the menu screen are trailers for Blue Planet II and Top Gear. The Capaldi retrospective is not included, but there is the 23.25 minute Doctor Who Extra documentary on the making of Twice Upon a Time. It is very entertaining and informative, with comments by Capaldi, Bradley, Gatiss, Mackie, Lucas, Briggs, Talalay and Moffat.
Purrduced & directed by Luke Baker, and narrated by Colin McFarlane, not only is there ample behind-the-scenes footage, but that includes the glimpse of the deleted, recreated scene of a Cyberman battle from The Tenth Planet story! I wish there were more of the extras, but it is a wonderful tale and i am quite pleased with the DVD!
additions to The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art
Arigato, nya! For those here for the first time, Galleries 1-8 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images by other folks totally with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya! The images include illustrations, photos and mixed medias, nya!
Some of the images in the mewseum are sexy and some of them might depict artistic nudity, but most are very tame, and none of them are porn, nya. On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya!
we are pleased to purrsent “Happy Fae” by Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, nya! She used the pencil, pens & colored pencils on the toned papurr for this illustration of our friend Phanndraaleia, (purrnounced FAN drah lay ah), the winged Blonde faerie girl wearing the short Pink dress & thigh high hose as she purrches upon the boulder, nya!
Then we are delighted to display Rebecca’s illustration of “Yvonne“, nya! She used Paint Tool Sai. Photoshop CS6 and the Wacom Intuos 5 tablet for this illustration of Vonny wearing the Pink bikini and the tail bracelet in the captain’s seat on the flybridge of her family’s 1985 Hatteras 60 Convertible motor yacht the S.S. TsuriNekoMimi during one of their fishing charters, nya! Mmm the small fish in the bucket to her right look like a tasty snack, but that is bait to catch the bigger fish, nya!
Nextly we are elated to exhibit the meowy mixed – media “Purrtrait of Yvonne” by TonomuraBix http://tonomurabix.deviantart.com, who was a guest for our March 2008 Mew, nya! This is quite the coincidental month for lovely images of Vonny, nya! In addition to her captaincy, Vonny is a purrcussionist in her drumming circle, volunteer at the Mew Hanover County Food Bank, older sister of Tara-chan, co-owner of two kuronekos, and one of the four original Ladies of The Mew, nya!
Nextly we are elated to exhibit the “Pole Dance Catgirl” TonomuraBix, nya! You know, It was in 2002 when when our mewseum was first graced by the beautiful art by Bix, nya! That was “Meow”, a pic of a rave dancing catgirl, and to commeowmerate the sixteenth anniversary, this latest mixed – media illustration depicts Capurrice who is a captivating purrofessional dancer, an inspurrational sensei, and the wonderful mom, who is so serene, graceful and alluring in the bikini upon the pole, nya!
speaking of catgirls with poles, “Purrched for Purrch” is Mike’s mixed – media pic of Capurrice’s bikini – clad daughter Christinya, nya! When Christinya is not busy as the D.J., pod caster, and fan of her mom’s purrformances, she likes to fish at the estuary and other inshore areas to also catch Kingfish, Pinfish, Croakers, Grunts, Spots, Shad, and this 12 in., 1 lb. Purrch, nya! This pic was a gift for Elisa Chong http://www.sofianime.com who was the guest of the June 2011 Mew, nya!
Mike used the pencil, micron pens, Photoshop CS2 and the mouse for this widdle pic of Christinya’s cousin “Nilla-Creme”, nya! Nilla-Creme is the daughter of our mayor Pepurr-Minta and her husband Elwood the sports announcer, nya! She is a student who wants to study law, and her hobbies include anime, surfing, yarn ball lacrosse, going to techno concerts and raver dances, nya! She is so cute in her cropped tank top, fishnets, thong, piercings, pleated mini skirt, striped thigh highs and strappy boots of the gothy punk style, nya!
Lastly but not leastly, Mike used Photoshop CS2 & the mouse for this special surpurrise “Bunnii Beach Ball” illustration of Bunnii in her Black bikini, nya! It is the gift for her birthday and also in the appurreciation for her supurrb work as our mewseum’s assistant curator, the highest – scoring MVP of our County’s volleyball league, coaching the youth summer volleyball camp, doting upon her nieces, volunteering with the local artistic community and at the food bank, nya! So, what do y’all think of the latest additions, nya?
(cries joyfully ) Waahhh! I am not worthy!
(cries joyfully) Waahhh! Me neither, nya!
Bix went for the close-up purrtraiture of Vonny in the traditional media whereas Rebecca went for the full – figure of Vonny in the digital media, but they are both so beautifully faithful!
They both have the great distinctive styles, but both exquisitely captured her fiery Red hair, her luscious lips, her gleaming Green eyes, and even the widdle gold ring in her right ear!
The illustration of Bunnii conveys the sheen of her sikly hair, the gleam in her big Blue eyes, her winning smile, and her tightly toned abs!
I like… I like the use of color and – and light in the Bunnii pic, and – and how she is framed by the ripples low tide upon the beach, nya!
I can’t wait to see Phanndraaleia and her family’s reaction to Rebecca’s pic of her! It purrfectly captures the likeness and spirit!
Oh I will second that! Just lookit the splendid detail of her wings, from the translucent membranes to the darker outer costa!
Bixy’s pic of Capurrice is magnificent and purrfect too! The compurrsition, the pose, expurression, spirit, the lines, colors, shading and details are as supurrb as supurrb can be!
Her coiffure has such an iridescent quality, her ears are so supple and she has a lovely tail. She looks so so graceful, strong and lithe, and rather alluring in that strappy bikini!
I think that Mike nailed the illustration of Christinya too! Lookit the gleefully arched tail as she sets the hook in the yummy fish!
The white tips of her ear and tail are spot on, and I love the Pink flowers to match her bikini, but nyow I have the seafood craving!
The pic of Nilla-Creme is quite accurate too, down to the piercings in her ears, brows, nose, tongue, and belly button.
Thank y’all very much for the kind words- and thank you for presenting the new art, Petra!
Arigato gosaimeows, nya!
