So, what have y’all been up to since last month’s Mew?
Aside from the mewsual yoga, kyudo, robotics club & teaching belly dance class, my troupe is exited about the Dance Festival at the Purrforming Arts Center.
Hai! I have been helping with that big event when I am not paddle surfing, board-shaping, caring for the ponies and working at the stables with Tara-chan!
Aside from caring for Emmy, Zuli, Jimbo, Wild Star Blaze and – and TsuriNekoMimi, I have been volunteering at the food bank and taking nature photos, nya!
(note: Emmy & Zuli are Yvonne & Tara-chan’s pet cats; Jimbo & Wild Star Blaze are Tara-chan & Trini-chan’s banker ponies, and the S.S. TsuriNekoMimi is Yvpnne’s 1985 Hatteras 60 Convertible motor yacht )
My drumming circle will purrcuss at the festival, and my charters have been been reeling in the Snappurrs, Groupurrs, Croakers,, Cobias and Wahoos, nya!
Mary Nyan:

Oh as usual I have been spending quality time with family and friends while indulging my various hobbies and attending some of the events! Ah, well we’ve got a lot on our plate, so let’s go ahead an jump right into
The Lightning Round topic:

This year we’re looking back at our favorite things of prior years ending in an 8, so this month’s lightning round topic pertains to our favorite stuff of 1938! Ah, Myayr’s gonna start, so, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?

Oh I gotta go with the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1! Well that was another expedient little Lightning Round, and let’s keep it going with our
our semi – annual DVD wish list!
These are titles that we hope could be commercially released (physically) here on DVD & Blu-Ray! This includes recent, old, foreign, domestic, animated & live-action TV shows and movies, but doesn’t include recent ones that we suspect will soon be available anyway!
We’d like the original music and songs to be intact, foreign productions to be in their original language with English subtitles. DVDs should not scrimp on special features compared to Blu-Ray releases or digital downloads. So, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?
The Ladies of The Mew:
Anime such as the original Space Battleship Yamato TV series, Yamato 2520, Great Yamato, Queen Millennia, Ideon: Space Runaway, Stratos Four Advance, and Macross Zero. (tags Nyoka )

I will nominate the The Green Hornet TV series, the Ocean Girl TV series, the live-action Ranma 1/2 special, the live-action Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Thunderbolt Fantasy, nya! (tags Becca)
Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla (1974), Terror of MechaGodzilla (1975), Gene Roddenberry’s Spectre (TV movie), The Star Wars Holiday Special, and the Star Wars: Forces of Destiny animated series! (tags Mary Nyan)
Mary Nyan:
More of the lost Doctor Who episodes, re-issues of The Time Monster and Ghost Light; Kate Bush Live at Hammersmith Odeon, and the Kate Bush 1979 TV Special. Howboutchoo, Jamie? (tags the web master)
The Beatles: Let it Be, Moon of the Wolf,  The Sixth Sense TV series, and the WKRP in Cincinnati TV series with all of the original songs restored. Back to Mike.
The 1964 Cinerama film To the Moon and Beyond, Steven Speilberg’s Amblin’, John Dods’s Forest Story, Mark Sullivan’s Nightspeed, Neal Adams’s Nannaz, James Cameron’s Xenogenesis, and Neil Young’s A Journey Through the Past, ! Well that was another expedient little wish list, and lets keep our movie mewsings rolling as Trini-chan continues our
DVD & movie mewsings, with her review of
the Isle of Dogs Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital set!
Mary Nyan:
Hai! We enjoy all of Wes Anderson’s movies such as Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, The Aquatic Life, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Isle of Dogs, which is my favorite movie of the first half of this year!
It is the stop – motion animated tale of the dogs who help the boy Atari’s quest to find his dog who was sent to the trash dump island, whilst other kids investigate the government conspurracy! I gave the movie the “A+” grade, and for our review of the movie, please see our June 2018 Mew!
The voice cast includes Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, Jeff Goldblum, Francis McDormand, Scarlett Johansson, Ed Norton, Harvey Keitel, Ken Watanabe, Yoko Ono, Tilda Swinton, F. Murray Abraham, Liev Schreiber, Great Gerwig, Koyu Rankin, Kunichi Nomura, Courtney B. Vance, and Bryan Cranston!
Thusly we eagerly awaited the release of the movie upon the home video, such as this Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital set! The 2 disks and the digital download instruction sheet are in the plastic case within the outer cardboard sleeve. On the reverse side of the cover insert is the poster of Atari and Spot!
The 101 minute PG 13 movie is purresented in the widescreen format of the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with the spoken language choices of English, English descriptive  audio, French and Spanish, with the optional English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles, although a lot of the dialogue is in Japanese with English subtitles.
The DVD has no extra features, but the Blu-Ray disk also has the movie’s trailer, the gallery of 15 photos, and the 6 fascinating widdle featurettes about the making of the movie which total to about 21.5 minutes. I  wish there were more extras such as perhaps audio commentaries, an isolated music track, an art gallery, and a booklet.
Nevertheless, we were very pleased to purrchase the set which has the great image and sound quality of the wonderful movie which we will watch oftenly! Nextly I would like to discuss another home video release of another movie that was released earlier this year, the
Ready Player One Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital + Bonus Disk set!
Mary Nyan:
I have enjoyed Steven Speilberg’s movies such as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1941, E.T., A.I., Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Hook, The Color Purple, Always, The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can, Lincoln, Bridge of Spies, The Post, The BFG, Empire of the Sun, The Sugarland Express, Murder by the Book, War Horse, and his most recent movie Ready Player One, which we reviewd in the June 2018 Mew!
It is the science fiction film set in the near future when economic times are tougher and people find the escape in the vast virtual reality network. When it’s creator passes away, the winner of the global contest will be the heir, and thusly the most online massive multi – player in history is on, whilst the the rebel group fights against the corpurration that has sent agents to try to claim the purrize and to attack the other players in the game and in the real life!
The movie also has the appurrances by so many famous characters, references and “easter eggs” from games, movies, TV shows, mewsic, novels and comic books! Last month the movie was released upon the home video, including the Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital set, and the Target stores have the exclusive edition that includes the bonus DVD plus the lenticular front cover, which shifts from the image of Tye Sheridan’s character Wade and his online avatar Parzifal.
The 140 minute PG 13 movie is purresented in the widescreen format of the 2.4:1 aspect ratio with the spoken language choices of English, English descriptive  audio, French, Spanish and Purrtugues, with the optional English SDH, French, Spanish & Purrtugues subtitles on the Blu-Ray disk. The DVD’s spoken language choices of English, English descriptive  audio, French & Spanish  with the optional English SDH, French & Spanish subtitles.
The 3 disks & the digital download instruction sheet are in the plastic case within the outer cardboard sleeve. The DVD has no extra features, but the Blu-Ray disk, which is stacked atop the DVD disk on the right side of the plastic case, has the 6 thorough & fascinating featurettes about the making of the movie, which total to appurroxmately 118 minutes which are peppurred by the comments by almost 3 dozen members of the cast & crew.
Snapped into the left side of the plastic case, the Target exclusive bonus DVD is author / co-screen writer ernest Cline’s tour of the movie sets & purrops. At just over the 20 minutes, the tour is on the English audio with the optional English SDH, French & Purrtuguese subtitles. That is all for my reviews, and nyow here is Trini-chan to discuss
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation!
Arigato! As Buggs Bunny once said, “Monsters are such interesting people!”, a sentiment that rings true for me in this 3rd movie of the CG – animated supernatural romantic comedic Hotel Transylvania series! This time most of the action occurs away from Dracula’s hotel, when his daughter Mavis decides that he needs a vacation from work, and books an ocean liner cruise into The Bermuda Triangle!
Mavis is my favorite character of the series! In addition to Dracula, Mavis, her human husband Johnny and heir son Dennis, many friends take the cruise, unaware that the ship’s captain Ericka is the grand daughter of Dracula’s arch enemy  Abraham Van Hesling! Things get rather complicated when Dracula romantically falls for Ericka, whilst she and her grandfather plot to destroy all monsters!
Directed Genndy Tartakovsky, purrduced by Michelle Murdocca, written Michael McCullers and Tartakovsky, and brilliantly animated by Sony Pitures animation with the great mewsical score by Mark Mothersbaugh, Hotel Transylvania 3 has the impressive voice cast including Adam Sandler as Dracula, Mel Brooks as his dad Vlad, Selena Gomez as mavis, Andy Samberg as Johnny…
… Asher Blinkoff as Dennis, Sadie Sandle as his friend Winnie the werewolf girl, Molly Shannon as her mom Wanda, Steve Buscema as Wanda’s husband Wayne, Keegan-Michael Key as Murray the mummy, Kevin James as Frankenstein, Fran Drescher as his wife Eunice (in the leopurrd – purint maillot), David Spade as Griffin the Invisible Man, Jim Gaffigan as Abraham & Kathryn Hahn as Ericka!
The many other supernatural characters include the giant dog, chupacabra, hydra, skeleton, blobs, gremlins, witches, fish people & other denizens of the deep! It seemed the bit rushed & short, but the charming, beautiful movie has the fun action & humor aplenty for kids & adults, and the important message about the perils of racism. Nextly I would like to discuss another fun animated movie–
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies!
We tend to enjoy the many TV series  and movies of the animated DC Universe, especially Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Young Justice, The Brave and the Bold, and the various Teen Titans series, so I was was keen to see the Titans’ latest movie starring Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg,  Beast Boy, and their enemy Slade!
It is seldom that we get a theatrically – released animated DC movie! The animated Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo movie was shown on TV and released on DVD. It was part of the prior Teen Titans series, whereas this’un is part of the wackier, meta-fictionally current Teen Titains Go! series. In this tale, Robin laments that the Titans are not taken seriously and wishes that they starred in a movie as other heroes have.
The plot wafts betwixt their battles with Slade, their attempts to coax a director to make a Titans movie, scoffing by the Justice League, the typical shenanigans. The animation, music and sounds were very good, and there the are the many fun “easter eggs”, appearances, references, parodies, homages and jokes involving various other famous characters of the movies, TV, games and comics!
The great voice cast includes Scott Menville as Robin, Hyndan Walch as Starfire. Khary Paytn as Cyborg. Tara Strong as Raven. Greg Cipes as Beast Boy. Will Arnett as Slade. Kristen Bell as jade the director, Nicholas Cage as Superman, Jimmy Kimmel a Batman, James Corden as the evil Balloon Man, and even the cameo by Stan Lee as himself Make sure to stay for the quick widdle mid & post –  credits scenes!
Prior to the movie is Lauren Faust’s peppy wonderful animated DC Super Hero Girls animated short starring Batgirl! It has the great designs, animation, voices, sound & music too! Batgirl is voiced by Tara, who voiced her in Batman: The Animated Series! We met her at at the 2008 Bot Con! That was before My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic which Tara and Lauren were part of, but I digress, and now here is Jenjen to discuss
Ant-Man and The Wasp!
Hai. We enjoy the Marvel Studios movies such as The Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, The Avengers and the various spin-off TV series . Scott Lang alias the supurr-hero Ant-Man is the likable ex-con thief and divorcee who tries to be the good father to his daughter Cassie, whilst the romance blooms between him and lovely feisty genius Hope Van Dyne.
However, he still gets into troubles, especially when he wears the Ant-Man suit that was invented by Hope’s physcist father Dr. Henry Pym, the original Ant-Man whose missing wife Janet was the original Wasp, but now Hope is the new Wasp. For our review of the first Ant-Man movie, please see our August 2015 Mew, and for our review of Captain America: Civil War (Scott’s 2nd appurrance) please see our June 2016 Mew.
Set the about the same time as Avengers: Infinity War, this time Scott is under the house arrest after the Civil War incident, but enjoys visits from his daughter Cassie, ex-wife Maggie and her new husband Jim, whilst Scott tries to start the new security business with his pals Luis, Gale & Kurt. Meanwhile, Hank & Hope are on the lam from the FBI while they build the device that might rescue Janet from the microscopic quantum realm.
However, Scott’s purrior visit to the realm might be the link to finding Janet, so he becomes re-involved with the Pyms, who are purrsued not only by the FBI but also by techno black market criminals, and the “villain” known as The Ghost. Thusly Scott has to sneak out to become Ant-Man again, but his heroic intentions will jeopardize his freedom, job, family & friends. Fortunately a bunch of giant ants are there to help him.
The supurrb cast includes Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Pym, Michael Douglas as Henry Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie, Judy Greer as Maggie, Bobby Cannavale as Jim, Michael Pena as Luis, T.I. Harris as Gale, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava / The Ghost, Randall Park as FBI agent Jimmy Woo, Laurence Fisburne as physicist Boll Foster…
… and Walton Goggins as the criminal Sonny Birch, plus lots of great ants, the cameo appurrance by Stan Lee, and the various Marvel Comics references. Although there is more of the “speed ramping” cinematic technique than I care for, (eg. the Hello Kitty Pez scene), I rather enjoyed Ant-Man and The Wasp which is such the charming, thrilling, amewsing fun movie with great plot, cast, dialogue, music, sound, FX, comedy & action.
I especially like Hope’s fight scenes. It has the great sets, costumes, locations & stunts as it merrily, joyfully builds upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe mythology & continuity, whilst bringing in more characters from the comics. Not only are the ants wonderful, but it has cute microscopic tartigrades too, so I will give it the grade of the A Minus. Make sure to stay for the mid & post credits scenes. Nextly I would like to discuss
Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
We are fans of the 1966 –  1973Mission: Impossible TV series, and the 1988 – 1990 revival series. I did not care much for the first two M:I movies of 1996 and 2000 respectively, but I like the 3rd movie which better captured the spirit of the original series; I like the 4th movie Ghost Protocol even more, the 5th movie Rogue Nation even more, and the latest movie Fallout is my favorite of the series.
Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, it stars the returning Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Simon Pegg as IMF agent Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as IMF agent Luthor Stickwell , Alec Baldwin as IMF Director Hunley, Michelle Monaghan as Ethan’s ex-wife Dr, Julia Meade, Rebecca Ferguson as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust, and  Sean Harris as the evil villain Soloman Lane…
… and this time they are joined by Henry Cavill as CIA agent August Walker, Angela Bassett as CIA director Erica Sloane, Wes Bently as Julia’s new husband, and Vanessa Kirby as arms dealer known as The White Widow. This time the IMF team, plus Ilsa and their CIA associates have to stop Lane’s reborn terrorist organization from detonating three very portable nuclear bombs…
… but the situations get even more complicated when the various organizations have the conflicting other agendas and certain identities are faked and mistaken with the fantastic results, This extremely thrilling, captivating, smart, fun movie was quite brilliantly awesome, with the excellent balance of humor, drama, action, suspense, continuity and character developments.
It has the great plot, dialogue, purrformances, direction, cinematography, editing, costumes, make-up, sets, international locations, vehicles, gadgets, FX, sound, and mewsic. The many stunts are rather spectacular from the foot and vehicle chases climbing, fights, shoot outs, and the halo jump. Tom Cruise did many extremely dangerous stunts quite impurressively.
I was also pleased that there were none of the cinematic techniques that I dislike such as the unstable / shaky cam, slo-mo, speed ramping, snap / crash zooms. This is one of my favorite movies of the year and I will give it the solid “A” grade. That will conclude my review, and nyow here is Mie-sensei to discuss
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
Arigato! So like, this movie is the romantic comedic musical sequel / prequel to Mamma Mia! The Movie, which was the adaptation of the broadway mewsical based upon the pop songs by the swedish band ABBA! This’un is set  5 years later, but with the flashbacks of 1979.
Sophie is owner of Hotel Bella Donna which her late mom Donna built on a beautiful Greek island. Sophie is sad because of the separation with her husband Sky whilst she misses her mom and  laments that many important folks are unable to attend hotel’s urgent gala.
A storm further dampens the spirits, but Donna’s best friends Tanya and Rosie arrive to cheer Sophie up, with much reminiscing of the past, plans for the present, and concerns for the future as history repeats itself. Of course, many mewsical dance numbers ensue!
The cast includes Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, Cher as her Grandmother Ruby, Meryl Streep as Donna, Lilly James as younger Donna, Julie Walers as Rosie, Alexa Davies as younger Rosie, Christine Baranski as Tanya, Jessica Keenan Wynn as Younger Tanya,…
… Pierce Brosnan as Sophie’s father Sam, Jeremy Irvin as Younger Sam, Colin Firth as Sophies other father Harry, Hugh Skinner as younger Harry, Stellan Skarsgard as her other other father Bill, Josh Dylan as younger Bill, and Andy Garcia as Fernando the hotel’s manager!
The movie is briskly –  paced and bittersweet, but it is the mostly vivaciously charming, fun origin tale of Sophie, Donna and the hotel with the beautiful locations, sets, cinematography, costumes, hair & make-up, performances, choreography, editing, sound, score and songs…
… such as Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Fernando, Super Trooper, The Name of the Game, I Kissed the Teacher, and about the dozen other totally awesome ABBA songs! I think hat I will give this movie the high grade of an A Minus! Nextly I would like to also praise
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
So like, we are big fans in high admiration of the late Mr. Fred Rogers and his characters! There are few educational entertainers who have been as iconic, positive, inspirational, wise and beloved. Even though he is no longer with us, the legacy of his legendary TV series Mr. Rogers Neighborhoods has continued for more generations with the totally awesome Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood TV series, fur shur!
Thusly we were extremely eager to see director Morgan Neville’s documentary about the life and times of Mr. Rogers, which is brimming with the archival footage of his TV shows, behind the scenes footage, home movies, photographs, new animated segments and the interviews with his family and friends, such as Francois Clemmons, David Newell, Joe Negri, Yo-Yo Ma, Fred’s sons and his wife Joanne!
It was so totally joyful to see the characters such as Mr. McFeely, Office Clemmons, Handyman Negri, Lady Betty Aberlin, Daniel Tiger, Henriettea Pussycat, X the Owl, King Friday, and Lady Elaine Fairchilde on the big theatre screen! The scenes of Mr. Rogers so kindly, sincerely and respectfully interacting with the many children are quite uplifting, but there are also the few sadder moments too.
Those include some frank discussions of certain distressing topics, such as some awful people who protested at Mr. Rogers’s 2003 funeral, so there are the parts of the documentary that might not be for the widdle kitties, but the superb documentary is the poignantly charming tribute to the great man and his works that will bring the cheers and the tears, fur shur! Now I will turn The Mew over Captain Vonny for this month’s
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Arigato, Mie-sensei, nya! In this portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous catgirls and nekomimi of myths and  popular culture! Here they are broadly – defined from anthropormorphic feline females, ailuranthropic shape – shifters and other types of feline femme fatales, to those who might not actually have kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or style as “honorary catgirls”!
Firstly for this month’s spotlight, I would like to shine the spotlight upon the heroines of the 1945 movie Tarzan and the Amazons, nya! It stars Jonny Weissmuller as Tarzan, Brenda Joyce as Jane, and Johnny Sheffiled as Boy, Cheetah the chimp, and Maria Ousoenskaya as the Queen of Palmyria, which is the hidden African matriarchal city of the fiercely secretive Amazon women, nya!
Many of the ladies wear the leopurrd purrint and tawny lion couture of the mountain, savanna and jungle, so we will consider them as the “honorary catgirls”, nya! Tarzan is the friend and rescuer of the Amazons, who unfortunately enslave and execute other men, and are discovered by the all – male jungle expurrdition that wants to loot their gold, relics and other treasures, nya!
The Amazons’ Queen should not be confuzzled with Lea the queen of the Leopurrd Clan, who was purrtrayed by Ms. Acquanetta in the following year’s Tarzan and the Leopard Woman, nya! Lea was quite the alluring femme fatale of the feline fashion in the bare midriff outfit of the leopurrd skin top, skirt and claw necklace, but she was the mean queen who wanted the human sacrifices, nya!
Nyow we will jump ahead to 1985 to shine the spotlight upon the magnificent Gloria Estefan, the lead singer of the Miami Sound Machine, nya! They are one of my favoritest bands of the 1980’s with the hit songs such as 1-2-3. Get On Your Feet, and The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You; but it the mewsic video for the song Bad Boy in which see see Gloria’s inner catgirl, nya!
In the mewsic video, she strolls down the city street at night and encounters the group of catboys who are partying in the alley, nya! Their hair & make-up styling reminds me of the CATS mewsical, nya. After that bit of fun, when she emerges from the alley to rejoin her date on the sidewalk, we see the lovely slender curved kitty tail from the back of her dress, nya!
Nextly I would like to shine the spotlight upon Smooth Magazine issue #72’s cover girl girl Chanel Ayana, nya! Originally from Seattle and currently residing in Las Vegas, she is one of the stars of the Instagram sites, nya! In the issue’s 11 page pictorial, which includes several full  –  page pics & two- page spurreads, she wears the sexy bikinis that show ther many beautiful tattoos, nya!
Upon her arms & legs are many lovely leopurrd rosettes, so she is the honorary catgirl nya! Amongst the rosettes are the flowers, candies, stars, kitties & large leopurrd face, nya! With the styling by Eric Burns, coiffure by Taschi Lynell & make – up by Tomas Antonio Trejo, she was photographed by IEC Studios & intermewed by Greg Williams, nya!
Lastly but not leastly I will mention The Hunters of Salamanstra manga – style fantasy sci-fi / comic book which began in 2014 as the web comic, nya! Created, written & drawn & John Joseco,  edited Memj & Calpain &  published by Keenspot, it is the bittersweet tale of  Kessah Orlianne, the feisty 19 year old wolf girl who is the monster huntress like her late older sister Dianna, nya!
Not only do she and her fellow guild members of the various species hunt the huge deadly monsters that lurk in the mysterious, barren wilderness, but they also clash with the rival guilds, nya. The various kemonomimi also include Kessah’s former room mate Tenkin, Avery the deer girl Jesuen the medic catgirl, and Janice the court reporter catgirl! That is all for this month’s spotlight, but nyow Lizzy will start our
comic book & manga mewsings with
The Hunters of Salamanstra #11, nya!!
Hai! Issue #11 is actually the 12th issue as there was the purrcursory issue #0. It is written & drawn by John, edited by Jennifer McGregor and  Calpain, with the cover art colored by Bernie Joseco, nya
It is purriced at $4.99, and has the uninterrupted 34 Black & White page chapter about Kessah’s trial hunt with her team compurrised of Capt. Marlow, Kelinger, Duncan, Gren, Mia, Avery the deer girl and Jesuen the catgirl!
On the 2nd day of the mission in the barren spooky canyons, they met Kessah’s medic friend Asharia, most of whose team was killed by a huge monster, so the hunting expurrdition has become the rescue evacuation, while the hunters become the hunted! Thusly this is not one of the more fun issues, and it is not for the widdle kiddies die to the purrofanity, violence, gore, and the scary, tragic scenes!
In general this series is captivating with the good balance of the action, humor, tragedy, mythology and Kessah’s developments, with  the beautiful character, creature, scenic and typographic art, but this purrticular chapter was especially grisly, shocking and upsetting to the point that I needed the tissues for the sad tears. Nextly on the upbeat happier note, I would like to discuss
Konohana Kitan vol.1!
We very eagerly awaited Sakuya Amano’s manga about the fox spirit girl attendants and their guests of all species at the Kononhanateo hotel, a ryokan with hot spurrings between the worlds! It is the very charming, beautiful, modern slice – of – life  fantasy tale which is rated for readers of ages 16+, purrhaps due to the language & brief nudity.
Originally published in Japan 2015 by Gentosha Comics, the English version was published here in the USA by Tokyo Pop, Purriced at $12.99, volume one’s 192 B&W pages include the 174 pages of the introduction & chapters 1-5 plus the 11 page purreview of vol. 2 and the 7 other various pages, all sammiched betwixr the color covers.
It was translated by Katie McLendon, edited by Lena Atanassva, copy – edited by Massiel Gutirrez and in- chiefly edited by publisher Stu Levy; with the QC by Risa Otsuka, graphic design by the technical & digital media assistant Phillip Hong, retouching & lettering by Vibrraant Publishing Studio; and the marketing associate is Kate Winters.
The main character Yuzo is one of the younger new employees who is so very cordial, sincere, and enthused. Other recurring characters include attendants Natsume, Sakura, Shino, Ren, Satsuki and her older sister Hiiragi the miko (shrine maiden). There are amewsing & poignant situations betwixt them, the other town folk, and the guests!
The metaphysical encounters include the mother & daughter who we see through the ages, two chaps who would rather remain at the inn instead of returning to their troubled lives the mysterious egg affects the dreams of those who come into the contact with it, the rescued grateful sea turtle, and the arborist who plants the special cherry trees.
I will give th e high purraise grade of the A to both The Hunters of Salamanstra and Konohana Kitan for their great characters, captivating tales and beautiful art, and I will heartily recommend both of those titles to the kemonomimi fans! That is all for my reviews, and nyow we will go from the kemonomimi to the ponies as Tara-chan tells us about
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #67 & 68!
Arigato, nya! It is hard to believe that IDW’s My Little Pony comics have been going for the six years already, nya! They have been quite wonderful, and – and I was purrticularly looking forward to this issue, because it has the return of Fizzlepop Berrytwist, a.k.a Tempest Shadow, who was voiced by Emily Blunt in last year’s My Little Pony movie which we reviewed in the November 2017 Mew, nya!
This two – part tale tale was written by Jeremy Whitley who is one of my favoritest authors, nya! In addition to the many pony tales, he was written The Wasp, other Marvel titles, Vampirella, Sea of Thieves, and – and he created Princeless and – and Raven the Pirate Princess, nya! Both issues have the 28 pages compurrised of the uninterrupted 20 page tail plus the 8 pages of the ads, nya.
The rest of the issues’ creative team is compurrised of artist Andy Price, colorist Heather Breckle, letterer Neil Uyetake, editor Bobby Curnow, and – and publisher Greg Goldstein, nya! Issue #67 is available in the choice of cover A by Andy, cover B by Sara Richard, and – and the retail store incentive cover by Naomi Franquiz, whilst issue #68 has cover A by Andy, cover B by Sara, and – and the RI cover by Mary Bellamy, nya!
Nyow for the taste of the plot, nya! Tempest is unhappy in Ponyville, so she decides to travel to the other parts of Equestria, such as Appleoosa, Everfree, New Horseleans, Chicoltgo, Horselulu, and eventually to the Crystal Empire, where Princess Cadance asks her to help with the Arctic Patrol’s mission, where Tempest is reunited with her childhood friend Glitter Drop, nya!
There are flashbacks to the younger days when Fizzlepop, Gitter and – and Spring Rain were happy playful widdle fillie friends until the day that Fizzlepop’s horn was broken by an Ursa Major bear, nya. Unfortunately, in addition to her current  dour mood, the scary surpurrise awaits her in the arctic wilderness, when she encounters fearfully another Ursa Major bear, nya!
The very bitttersweet tale has the poignant character developments with the amewsing, charming, angry, sad and frightful moments, but I should not further spoil the taste of the plot, which is told in her first purrson narrative, nya! Also appurring are Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Apple Jack, Big McIntosh, Muffin, Icy Shanks, Braeburn, Thunderhooves, Aspen, and – and Bramble, nya.
There is a;sp the widdle montages o villains, and – and the background ponies to identify, including the Blues Brothers and – and the Magnum P.I. homages, nya! It is the introspectively bittersweet tale told with the purrfect dialogue, pace, fonts, colors, expurressions, poses, and – and widdle details that I will give the “A’ as in Apple Buck, nya! Nextly I would like to discuss
My Little Pony: Ponyville Mysteries #3, nya!
This is IDW’s latest companion series to the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic, and stars fillies Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and – and Scootaloo who are known as the Cutie Mark Crusaders, who have been investigating the crimes and – and  the incidents, nya! I am purrticularly fond of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, so I was so happy that they got their own series, nya!
The 28 page issue includes the uninterrupted 20 page tale written by Christina Rice, illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, colored by Heather, lettered by Neil, edited by Bobby, and – and published by Greg, nya! It is available in the choice of the regular cover A by Agnes, the subscription cover B by Philip Murphy, and – and the Retailer Incentive cover by Justnya Babinska, nya!
The tale begins on the happy delicious note as Apple Bloom’s aunts Holiday and Lofty show the camping Filly Guide scouts how to roast the sum’yum treats over the camp fire, nya! The treats are compurrised of the melted chocolate, nilla wafers and – and the purrickly pears, which is causing the craving in my tummy, but I have to wait to eat until our AfterMew luau, nya!
The yummy serenity is interrupted when Granny Smith announces that Ponyville’s retirement village is on fire, nya! The fir is extinguished, the elderly residents are rescued and – and relocated to the Sweet Apple Acres farm house, but the cause of the fire is suspicious, so the crusaders inspect the clues and – and question the suspects, nya!
I especially like the scene in which they wear the Black kunoichi outfits in order to sneak into the cordoned area, nya! There are quite the few pony guest stars, including Apple jack, Mayor Mare, Fire Streak, Filthy Rich, Diamond Tiara, Sand Trap, and – and Pearly Stitch, plus the various background ponies, and – and the amewsing Marx Brothers homage, nya!
Yet again the entire creative team did the supurrb job on the fun tale, and – and I especially liked the poses, expurressions, and the rich colors, so I will give thos issue the “A’ as in Apple Buck too, nya!
That will conclude this month’s pony report, and nyow here is Nya=sensei  to continue our comic book portion of The Mew, with her review of
Ant-Man and The Wasp #3, nya!!
Arigato! You know, Jeremy also wrote The Unstoppable Wasp comics starring Nadia Van Dyne alias The Wasp, which was one of our favoritest comics of last year until it was sadly cancelled, so we were glad to see this 5 issue mini – series in which Nadia teams up with Scott Lang, alias Ant-Man! Nadia and Scott are the 2nd heroes known as The Wasp and Ant-Man, in the comics, as Nadia’s step-mom Janet and her dad Henry Pym were the first Wasp and Ant-Man!
They are different from the characters in the movie, in which Henry’s daughter Hope is the current Wasp. Thus far in the tale, When Nadia tried to beam Scott to the Earth from the intergalactic Nova Corps. base, they became stranded in the microverse after the fight with the space vampire! The tinier civilization known as The Saarg mistook Nadia for the monster, so they caught and shrank her down to the tiny alien purrison cell without her Waspy wares!
That brings us to issue #3 which is the 28 pages compurrised of the 22 page tale plus the interrupting ads. It was written by Mark Waid who wrote Nadia’s first tale and  her adventures in the Avengers comics! It is illustrated by Javier Garron, colored by Israel Silva, lettered by Joe Caramanga, edited by Nick Lowes & Jordan D. White, and assistantly edited by Kathleen Wisneski, with the purrduction design by Anthony Gambino & the cover art by David Nakayana!
Nadia ingeniously escapes from the cell and searches for Scott, who retrieves her gear with help from Burr Dalen the friendly alien scientist, but then they are purrsued by the angry alien army! The situation is quite dire, but it is peppurred with the wacky fun moments, purrticularly the unexpected contacts, reactions, transformations, and when Burr wears Nadia’s costume!
The plot is rather amewsing, the dialogue is very peppy, the character, mecha and scenic art is beautiful, the fonts for the narrative, dialogue & sound FX are great, and the colors are so richly vibrant with the luminously dazzling FX! With just the two more issues remaining, I will give this mini – series thus far the “A” as in Ant – Man! Nextly I would like to offer the words of purraise for
Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #111!
Hai! Tarot is the sexy witchy warrior star of the occult adventure tales from Broadsword Comics! It is the beautiful bimonthly series of the tales that range from the amewsing to the deadly serious, but it is not for the widdle kitties due to the nudity, sexuality, violence & language!
Jim Balent is the creator, writer, artist, publisher & purresident of Broadsword Comics, his wife Holly is the vice purresident, colorist, letterer, purrduction purriestess & occasional cover model; Randi Leeann is the comics’ color flatter, and Neil Morris is the editor!
This 32 page, $2.95 issue is compurrised of the page tale of “Happy Ending?” which is followed by the 10 pages of photos, extras & ads, which are all sammiched betwixt the choice of 5 variant covers! it was the tough choice but I chose Cover B which depicts Tarot & Boo Cat!
Boo Cat is the mischievous, frisky catgirl who massages Tarot amidst the aroma of the mystical catnip oil, mew la la! Meanwhile, Tarot’s grumpy gothy sister Raven Hex visits their mom’s mansion, when the pesky Dragon Prince arrives with another unwelcome marriage purroposal!
The 3rd plot of the current tale has Tarot’s skeletal husband Jon Webb the cemetery guardian teaming up with his ghostly ex girl friend Brandi the Crypt Chick to investigate the grave robbings, which  leads to the dire cliffhanger, but I should not further spoil the taste of the plots!
The tale has the purrallel mix of the mysteriously sad, amewsingly sexy, and the charmingly frustrating incidents, which are all so beautifully drawn and colored with the intricate details and the spiffy fonts! I hope that Raven and Jon will cheer up, that Tarot and Boo Cat will pick up where they left off, and that we will see more of the mom!
There is the keen sense of community betwixt Jim, Holly, their friends & fans. The 10 pages of the extras include Holly’s cute Teen Taro page which depicts Tarot, Pooka kitten & Raven riding bikes; and the full page photo by Jason Mickael of this issue’s Broadsword Girl Nin Neff!
There is the photo collage page of Jim, Holly & friends at BeachHead Comics’s 1st anniversary celebration, the 2 page photo collage of them having fun at ComiConn 2018, and there are the few more photos upon the interior front cover / credits page.
To top it off are the 4 pages of ads for Broadsword Comics merchandise, the interior back cover’s gallery of the issue’s variant front covers, and the exterior back cover’s Halloweeny purreview of the next issue which I am looking forward to! I am done so nyow here is Sis to tell us about
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 12 #2!
Thanks Sis! It is hard to believe that it has been over 25 years since the original Buffy movie, over 20 years since the TV series, 17 years since the Fray series, and over 10 years since Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon and Dark Horse Comics canonically continued those adventures in the comics, which is already 2 issues into Season 12, which occurs one year after season 11!
The 2nd issue’s 28 pages include the 22 page story plus 6 pages of ads. Executively produced by Joss, the story is by Joss & scripter Christos Gage; it was pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Karl Story, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt, edited by Freddye Miller, assistantly edited by Kevin Baurkhalter, Judy Khuy & Jenny Blenk.
We’ve met Christos, Georges & Karl at the conventions!  The issue’s graphic designer was Anita Magana, and the digital art technician was Christianne Gillenardo-Goudreau. The main cover art is by Stephanie Hans, while the variant cover art is by Georges, Karl and Dan; and the “ultravariant” cover art is by Phil Noto. This tale co-stars future layer sisters Melaka & Erin Fray!
Purreviously, things had seemed to purrk up for  Buffy, Wilow, Xander, Dawn, Faith, Spike, Angel & Illyria / Fred in the past year. Buffy has been working with the San Francisco Police, she and Spike broke up again but are still friends, Willow started the pagan support center, Giles is back to normal, Xander’s construction job has been busy, he and Dawn have the house outside of town–\
–  and the cute widdle baby daughter named Joyce! Kawaii! However, things worsened when Harth, the evil brother of Melaka & Erin Fray in the 23rd century, sent his demon army back to the purresent time, in an allegiance with former mayor Dick Wilkins and the law firm of Wolfram & Hart to try to kill Buffy & the other heroes and thusly change the future timeline!
Buffy, Wilow, Xander, Dawn, Faith, Spike, Angel & Illyria lost that first round, but then they traveled to the 23rd century for answers, where they ran into the Fray sisters! That brings us up to issue #2, which is off to the rough start for Buffy who brawls with Melaka! Fortunately Erin is more welcoming, and soon the group retires to the library to conduct the research.
Erin & Melaka’s aquatic friend Gunther introduces them to someone who has the first – hand knowledge of the past 200 years… and it is none other than Harmony! She tells them the legends of what became of them in the past, but I should not further spoil the taste of the captivating plot which has the great dialogue, pace, mythology, action, humor and drama!
The art is quite excellent with the great portraitures, expurressions, fashions, poses, choreography, scenery, FX,  fonts, colors, and graphic narrative I was very pleased with this issue, to which I will give the grade of the “A” as in Angel and for my anticipation for the next issue!  I am done, and nyow here is Becca to tell us about the

additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!
Arigato, nya! For those here for the first time, Galleries 1-8 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images by other folks with their kind purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya! The images include illustrations, photos and mixed medias, nya!
Some of the art might be sexy or depict the tasteful nudity or semi – nudity, but none of it is porn, nya! The most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click on those to see the uncropped full pics, nya! This month we have added 8 new pics to Guest Gallery 5, and 6 pics to Gallery 8, nya!
we are purroud to purrsent the “Drunk Catgirl” by Rebecca Brogden, who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, nya! Rebecca used the pencil, pens & Copic markers to illustrate our friend Purreti who is wearing the Pink & Black jog bra & compurression shorts with the Black thigh high leggings as she happily relaxes in the comfy chair with the beer, nya!
Then we are delighted to display Rebecca’s pic of the “Battle Angel”, nya! Rebecca used the pencil, pens & Copic markers to illustrate Colonel Michellandromedangeles (purrnounced MEE shell ANN drah med anj ell ess), or just Michelle for short who is the warrior deva in the Black & White bare – midriff armor & skirt with the majestic White wings and the holy vorpal sword on the battlefield, nya!
After that is Rebecca’s scene of the “Magical Pasture”, which is the first of three related unicorn girl images which were all done with the pencil, pens & markers, nya! This’un depicts our friend Diana Eridani Lane-Cirrus, who is crouched playfully naked upon the lush grassy field, nya! She has the lovely Medium Beaver Brown skin, Burnt Orange mane & tail, Green eyes and Golden horn, nya!
“By The Stream” is the 2nd of the 3 unicorn girl images, and it depicts Diana’s mom Hecate crouched naked upon the smooth boulders by the stream, nya! She has the Green eyes and Golden horn like her daughter; the purretty Medium Desert Sand skin tone, the Indigo Purrple & Cyclamin Pink ombre – styled mane & tail, nya! She stays very busy as the mom and CPA, nya!
“Forest Illusion” is the 3rd of the 3 unicorn girl images, and it depicts Lauzeral Marillion Lane-Cirrus who is Hecate’s sister and Diana’s aunt, nya! Scantily clad in the teensy Blue halter top & loin cloth amidst the trees, she has the Wood Brown skin tone, the Burnt Orange mane & tail, the Amber eyes & Golden horn, nya! She stays busy as the mom and stock broker with the recent 50th birthday, nya!
Then Rebecca used the pencil, pens and the Copic markers for this happy cute ACEO illustration of the “Little Friend”, which depicts the Platinum Blonde, Green – eyed, tan catgirl with her White domestic short – haired kitty wearing the Green ribbon, nya! Kawaii, nya!
Nextly is Rebecca’s portrait of the purrretty petite Pegastraia the “Pegasus Girl”Purrnounced Peg AH stray ah (or just Peggy for short), she has the Brown skin, Purrple hair, White wings, Gold horn, and the backless, off – shoulder Ice Blue dress that matched her eyes, nya! She is the newlywed, high altitude solar & electrical engineer who recently migrated to here from India, nya!
Then we have the pic of Gary Surfing by Misty Hopkins, who was among the guests of the March 2008 Mew, and Gary the fox is the mascot of her blog! Misty drew this 9×12″, 20 minute pencil sketch in the adults cattygory of the Sunday afternoon Quick Draw Contest at the 36th annual Heroes Convention in Charlotte NC on June 15-17th 2018!
We have the “Fox on the Stroll” by Mike, which depicts the widdle fox girl in the yukata and sandals strolling past the stone tachi-gata lantern by the Japanese garden path! This is what Mike drew beside Misty in that same Quick draw contest, in which he won the 2nd place prize! If you look closely, upon the fox girl’s shopping bag is the homage to Misty’s Gary Surfing pic!
Then  we are pleased to unveil Mike’s two pieces of Ahsoka Tano fan art! Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to illustrate these pic of Ahsoka, who was the heroic Jedi padawan of Anakin Skywalker! These two illustrations were done to commemorate the 10th anniversary of her 1st appearance in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, which premiered theatrically in August of 2008!
In both of these images, she is wearing her early outfit comprised of the the tube top, short skirt, leggings, boots, belt, tabard and fingerless gloves. In the first pic, Ahsoka istands upon the desert rocks of Tattooine at sunset, with her two Green Light Sabers poised for the pounce! The second widdle pic is a bust view of her from the mid-thighs up in the cheerfully smiling pose in outer space!
Nextly we have “Helloth Kittty”, which is Mike’s pen & ink fan art of a cute widdle Star Wars Loth Cat! Similar to the Tooka Cats, these feral felines roam the streets and alleys of the Empire in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series and the Star Wars: Rebels TV series. This’un craves the bowl of delicious, nutritious fresh Blue Milk in a safe comfy warm spot for the subsequent catnap!
After that is Mike’s pic of “Four New NPCs”! These NPCs (Non-Player Characters) were recently introduced in his monthly tabletop fantasy role-playing game. Perhaps y’all have seen the pics of the game’s many other characters such as Rebecca’s character Nystia Nighstshade? Lined up from left to right are Princess Giselle Le Blanc-Drake, who is the Duchess of A La Orange and general of the SwanMay Rangers…
… Queen Francoise Le Blanc who is Giselle’s mom and the ruler of the SwanMay Sisterhood, Tanya Taiga a.k.a Tanya the Tiger the were-Bengal Tiger Girl actress, mom and environmentalist; and Yuki the White Chromatic Dragon Girl who is the firefighter, member of the Arctic Patro, and the doting aunt!
“Dragon Babysitting” depicts two more NPCs, Sir Bill Drake who is Nystia’s father, and her adopted widdle Blue dragon named Squirt who is Yuki’s niece! Bill was transformed by a curse into a duck, but he was rescued by Nystia and later married Giselle, so now he has to dragon sit. So, what do y’all think of the new additions?
The Drunk Catgirl is quite the sexy silly sloshed sight, from her totally shellacked fangy grin and the size of that drink to her alluring bare midriff outfit and the limp tail upon the recliner!
The Battle Angel has such the dramatic, dynamic pose & expurression, warily glancing aside and crouched ready to strike with that sword as the magnificent wings spread around her!
The compurrsition, lines, colors, shading are most excellent as unicorn girl in the pasture seems quite playfully frisky as she gazes up at us from amidst the grass and the dandelions!
The unicorn girl by the stream is the wonderful sight, from the purrked ears, shiny spiraled horn and captivating gaze to her voluptuous curves, the water ripples and the wispy clouds!
Mary Nyan:
The unicorn girl in the forest has the splendidly braided hair, the sassily swishy tail and lustrously sweet smile in that tantalizing attire that barely covers her beautiful body mew la la!
Hai hai, and I think that Rebecca brilliantly totally awesomely captured pretty portraiture and endearingly sweet spirit of the pegasus girl and cat girl with her cute widdle kitty, fur shur!
I am so glad that we have more of Misty’s magnificent art too! Her pic of Gary shredding the waves has the very tight, precise graceful lines and the smoothly cross- hatched shading!
Given the 20 minute time limit of the quick draw contest, I am impurressed how Mike was able to compose the fox girl and the lantern amidst the stones, trees, shrubs and shrooms.
Oh I would like to have a Loth Cat, nya! I bet… I bet that the Loth cat would get along nicely with our cats Emmy and – and  Zuli by the fishing dock and- and the farmers market, nya!
I purrticulaly like the use of the color and light in the pics of Ahsoka from the stripes of her montrals and the glow of the sabers to the stars of the nebula and setting of the suns, nya!
Squirt is so cute, and I like the couture such as Giselle’s shorts & capelet outfit, Francoise’s feathery cloak, Tanya’s saree, Yuki’s Hapi jacket, outfit, and Sir Bill’s Green & Black haori!

Thank y’all for the kind words, and ah, Petra, Bun, thank y’all for presenting the latest additions to the Mewseum
