So, what have y’all been up to since last time?
As mewsual, my itinerary is compurrised of the yoga, kyudo, teaching belly dance, modeling the swimwear, and purrsiding over the Robotics Club.
I have been assisting Jen at the belly dance class, surfing with Kara and Peppurr, board shaping, and caring for our ponies other adopted critters!
Volunteering, snapping more nature photos, riding our ponies in the Calendula purrade, and – and purrparing for the fun Halloween activities, nya!
My drumming circle has purrcussed at the fall festivals; and my charters have reeled in the Snappurrs, Groupurrs, Croakers, Cobias & Wahoos, nya!
We had a wonderful celebration of the Autumnal Equinox at my magic shop, with the purresentations, ceremony, discounts, and the yummy treats!
It was quite the festively poignant event! Aside from attending the local events, I have been mostly coaching and training at my dojo and the gym!
Petra and I have been coaching the Fall beach volleyball camp, when I have not been busily baking, gardening, and curating the art mewseum!
Hai hai, we are excited about our annual macabre art exhibit, and we greatly appurreciate the wonderful artists, volunteers, and visitors, nya!
As mewsual I have been golfing, gardening and grooming my cats when Lizzy I have not been busy at our spa, at the late night hot salsa dance!
While she playing or instructing at the golf course, I am either with my Purrkour Club or assisting the appurrentice miko at the shrine’s matsuris!
So like, when I have not been at the golf course, I have been rehearsing with the Repurrtory Company at the Forest Grove Ampurrtheatre, fur shur!
Between teaching the hula dance and sewing the costumes, it is the very busy time for me, especially due to Halloween! Howboutchoo, Mike?
Oh, the usual reading, writing, illustrating, gaming, listening to the radio, watching TV, movies, attending a few events, and spending quality time with family and friends! Ah, speaking of the events, I believe that Myayr wishes to elaborate on the annual
Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl!
Hai! The Catgirl Island Halloween Trick ‘R Eat & Cosplay Purrowl is one of the most fun days of October, full of the foods & festive arts and purrformances all across the island and the merfolks’ offshore parts of Mew Hanover County! It is the very creative time with decorations & costumes, including the various groups’ activities & attractions! The purrowl lasts several days, so that everyone can purrtake regardless of age, species or schedule!
For the several years, much of our Mew group has decided on a theme for our cosplay! Besides our group are the Library, Mewspapurr, Farmers Market, Riverwalk Association, Visitors Center, Purrforming Arts Center, Sheila May’s Restaurant, The Kitt Inn, The School, The Golf Club and Surf Purrtrol groups to name the few! In addition to the frolicking, we all will purrpare tasty treats to deliver to homes, businesses & the food bank!
The elaborate event requires the careful planning, with various factors to consider for the costumes, such as the purrice, complexity, the ruggedness in case we might be running, climbing or swimming; the number of purrticipants! The various groups try to coordinate with each other because we do not wish to duplicate their costumes or the treats that we will deliver, and we do not wish to accidentally overlook any of those locations to visit.
Our own group’s prior cosplay themes have included Daphne in the Brilliant Blue for 2008, Silent Mobius for 2009, and the “Neko-maticaya Clan” based upon James Cameron’s Avatar for 2010! Oh gosh, that Pandora Blue body paint took the while to remove, but I had enough left to cosplay as Jedi Master Aayla Secura for our Star Wars: The Clone Wars theme in 2011, when Vonny & Tara-chan cosplayed as Shaak Ti & Ahsoka Tano!
Their Togrutan Orange body paint took the while to remove too! After that was our “Avengers aCATamy” theme for 2012, the Omamori Himari theme for 2013, Aria anime for 2014, Strike Witches for 2015, the Equestria Girls for 2016, and last year was the Studio Ghibli theme! In our Mewseum of Art are the images of our Aria and Equestria cosplays! Some of the other cosplay ideas that we had considered purreviously included:
Masamune Shirow’s characters, Young Justice, Legion of Supurr Heroes, Pixie Hollow, 7th Kingdom, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Kancolle Mass Effect. We chose otherwise, but fortunately some of the other groups chose those! It was the beautiful sight! So, during our August AfterMew luau, we began to discuss this year’s plan, and determined which of us will be purrticipating and those of us who will have the other plans! For example,
Lizzy, Becca & Jenjen help with the spooky animatronics and the merfolks’ kelp maze, Nya-sensei & Nyo-sensei will be at the Magick shop, Rica & Niko will be at the Farmers Market; Mie-sensei will purrform at the Forest Grove Ampurrtheatre, B.B. conducts the nocturnal nature hikes through the maritime forest, Ellie is busy with the fireworks inspections and Police Chief Meryl will be on the purrtrol to ensure that everyone stays safe!
At last month’s AfteMew, eight of us voted on this year’s theme! The nominees included Doctor Who, Eevee, DC Bombshells and Lumberjanes, but we settled upon the Queens Blade theme! We have joked about how little fabric we will have to purrchase for those purrticularly skimpy costumes, which are somewhat akin to the bikinis and maillots but are rather ornately intricate! So, that is our plan. Speaking of the costumes, that is the topic for
This Month’s Lightning Round!
Yep, and this month’s question is… what other costume(s) would you most like to wear? Maybe it’s just one costume, or several come to mind, but let’s try to keep it to under, oh, 5 or 6 apiece. Um, Bun’s gonna start, so, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?
The Ladies of The Mew:
HAI- LIGHTNING ROUND GO, NYA!
Cutey Bunny, Zootopia’s Judy Hopps, Otaku no Video’s Misty May, Star Wars Jaxxon, and Petra and I pondered the joint Bucky O’Hare and Jenny the Pilot cosplay! (tags Bunni with a brush of the tail)
Hai, she would crossplay as Bucky and I would be Jenny, nya! I will nominate Deja Thoris, Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, Vampire Hunter D’s Carmilla, and Orion’s Kushinata, nya! (tail-tags Tara-chan)
I want… I want to cosplay as Nuku Nuku, Starfire, Apple Jack, Star Trek’s M’Ress, and – and Ahsoka Tano in her later costumes, nya! (tags her sister to go next)
Emereldas, Treasure Planet’s Amelia, Bome’s Oni Musume, Kancolle’s Yamato, and Monster High’s Toralei as the mermaid, nya! (tags Mielikki)
Oh I have considered cospaying as Black Orchid, Soulfire’s Grace, Elfquest’s Timmain, Tekken’s Alisa Bosconovich, and Clone Wars’s Daughter, fur shur (tags Becca with a flit of the wing)
Lizzy and I discussed the pairings such as DC’s Wonder Woman & The Cheetah, Dirty Pair’s Kei & Yuri, Fathom’s Aspen & Kiani… (tags Elizabeth to continue)
… Marvel’s Tigra & HellCat, Dominion’s AnaPuma & Unapuma, or my D&D characters Linina the Paladin & Ha’irisalavendara’zure the sorceress! (tags Trini-chan)
Tamamo Mae, Spice & Wolf’s Holo, Monster Musume’s Polt, and Ils, and SAO: Girls Op’s Silica! (tags Jeannie)
I will nominate Arcee, Elita 1, Chromia, Windblade, Peppurr Potts’s Rescue armor. the Gundam or the Patlabor. (rags Nyoka)
I will nominate Tarot the Witch of the Black Rose, her friend the Dragon Witch, (Cry for) Dawn, DC Comics’s Jennifer Morgan and Indigo! (tags her sister)
Mai Shiranui, Batman Ninja’s Catwoman, Masamune Shirow’s Crossbow Girl, William Tucci’s Shi, and Power Ranger SPD’s Dr. Kat Manx as the Cat Ranger! (tags Mary Nyan)
The Legion’s Shadow Lass, The X-Men’s Storm, World of Warcraft’s Alathana Moonbreeze and Sylvanas Windrunner, oh and I need to repair my Red Sonja costume! Back to Mike!
Assuming that I was in shape, I’d most want to cosplay as The Legion’s Wildfire, Yamato’s Susumu Kodai and Capt. Okita, Gene Simmon in his Destroyer era costume, and James T. Kirk in his Admiral uniform and his short – sleeve fatigues from Star Trek – The Motion Picture! Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round!, and now here’s Jen to present
Our Monthly Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Hai. In this portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous catgirls and nekomimi of myths and popular culture! Here they are broadly – defined from anthropormorphic feline females, ailuranthropic shape – shifters and other types of feline femme fatales, to those who might not actually have kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or style as “honorary catgirls”.
In the mewsic video for the title track of the 1985 album “Running Wild” by the British female heavy metal band Girlshool, animated Black cats leap upon the rooftop and transform into the band members Jackie Bodimead, Cris Bonacci, Kim McAuliffe, Gil Weston-Jones and Denise Dufort. Drummer Denise’s sleeveless leopurrd purrint top adds the purr of the purrcussion, and singer Jackie’s leopurrd purrint bandana adds to the feline quality of the band as a widdle Black cat watches their purrformance.
In the mewsic video for hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much” from her extremely successful 1997 studio album Come On Over, Canadian country mewsician Shania Twain wears the sexy bare midriffed leopurrd purrint pant suit with matching hoody coat whilst hitch-hiking in the desert, unimpurressed by the several men who offer her the ride.
We have purreviously shined the spotlight upon the catgirl nurse nun Novice Hame of the Sisterhood of Plentitude, who was purrtrayed by actress Anna Hope in the 2006 Doctor Who epurrsode “New Earth” and the 2007 epurrsode “Gridlock”, plus several of the Big Finish studio’s Doctor Who audio drama CDs. She very recently graced the front cover – featured article of The Essential Doctor Who: Adventures in the Future special issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which includes the discussion of Hame and intermew with Anna.
In the 2014 comedic movie Neighbors starring Seth Rogan as Mac and Rose Byrrne as his wife Kelly, they have dressed their cute widdle infant daughter Stella in the numerous Pink, White, and Blue kemonomimi caps amidst the feud with the fraternity next door. In the 2016 sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, actress Awkwafina purrtrays Christine, who is one of the Kappu Nu sisters , and wears
the outfit with the Pink tutu and the cat ears during their wild fund – raiser party to purrvent their eviction.
Zendaya purrtrayed Michelle in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Anne in The Greatest Showman, and last month she wore the leopurrd purrint sweater on the cover of Marie Claire magazine vol. 25 #9. In the issue’s pictorial we get to see the matching skirt and socks. In the 7th season epurrsode “Bridal Bath Wrath” of Bravo’s The Shahs of Sunset reality TV series, Mercedes Javid was quite alluring in the leopurrd purrint top wiith the plunging neckline at the gala purrior to her purre-wedding bridal bath party.
WWE supurrstar Natalya, daughter of the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart has been known to wear the cat ears. For example, in the 27 August 2018 Monday Night RAW show, the cat – eared head band accessorized her Black & Pink catsuit with the shiny spangles & sheer parts. She wore the ears to (but not in) the ring for her match against Alicia Fox, who has been known to wear the vulpine hoody.
We have purreviously shined the spotlight upon Leone the heroic catgirl member of the rebellion against the tyrannical government in the Akame Ga Kill manga series by author Takahiro and artist Tetsuya Tashiro. In vol. 11 of the manga is the amewsing 2 page bonus strip “Urami Koi, Urami Koi” in which the other girls such as Akame and Tatsumi cosplay as the catgirls wanting to be fed.
Lastly but not leastly, I would like to mention the front cover of the MIne anthology graphic novel by ComicM!x, which is graced Soo Lee’s illustration of the purrizefighter girl wearing the leopurrd purrint athletic bra with her trunks and gloves; whilst the back cover has the pink pussycat – eared hat emblem by Dean Haspiel, Barbara Haspiel and Leah Garrett. That will conclude this month’s spotlight, but nyow here is Mie-sensei to begin the toy talk portion of The Mew, with
her review of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Lady Deadpool,
Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Marvel Legends Dagger, and
Mattel’s DC Multiverse Jessica Cruz action figures.
Arigato, Jennyjen! So like, we collect the dolls, statues & action figures of super heroines & villainesses of the movies, TV, games, books & comics, so we were pleased to purrchase Hasbro’s latest action figures of Marvel Comics’s Lady Deadpool and the new Wolverine that are among the wave of 6 action figures that also include Bishop, Omega Red and two different Deadpool figures! Each figure is sold sepurrately and includes one of the pieces needed to build the figure of Sauron the evil pterosaur purrson.
Formerly known as X-23, Laura Kinney the current Wolverine is the young girl clone of Logan the original Wolverine! She first appurred in NYX #3 in 2004. In the comics she is 5 ft. 6 in, tall, weighs 147 lbs. has Green eyes, Black hair, supurr strength, stamina, reflexes, senses, quickness, agility, and the adamantium claws that extend from her hand and feet! In this latest 5.5 in. figure of her she is in the Blue & Yellow Wolverine costume. Also included is the variant head of her without the mask.
Sauron’s right leg is included with her, and his left wing is included with the figure of Lady Deadpool. Also known as Lady D, Wanda Wilson is the alternate universe’s female version of the original Deadpool Wade Wilson, not to be confuzzled with Gwenpool who is the other female version of Deadpool! Wanda first appurred in Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth #7 in 2010. In the comics she is 6 ft. talll, weighs 159 lbs. has Blue eyes, Flaxen Blonde hair, the combat prowess & super healing.
This 6 in. figure (excluding her knee-length pony tail) of her is in the Red & Black costume, accessorized by 2 katana swords and the grody decapitated zombie head of another alternate universe’s Deadpool known as Headpool. The 3″ post is included to display Headpool upon. Both of these figures are awesomely designed, sculpted and painted with the bright colors and intricate details, from Laura’s wavy waist-length hair to Wanda’s various ammo pouches and Headpool’s propellor beanie!
So like, now I would also like to praise Hasbro’s Marvel Legends figure of Tandy Bowen, alias Dagger, who is among the wave of 7 action figures that also include her partner Cloak, Elektra, Daredevil, Doc Ock, Scarlet Spider, and the House of M Spider-Man! Each is sold separately and includes one of the pieces needed to build the figure of the SP//dr mech! Cloak and Dagger first appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man #64 in 1982. In the comics, Dagger can hurl luminous psionic blades at her enemies!
She is like 5 ft 5 in. tall and weighs 115 lb., which would seem to make this 6 in. figure of her to be of the 1/10.8th scale. The figures is quite nicely designed, sculpted and painted, from her Blonde hair, Blue eyes, and the crescent moon tattoo around her left eye to her the slim lithe physique and the skin – tight White costume with the narrow neckline that plunges down to below her inny belly button!
Also included with her are the clip-on salvo of psionic blades, and the torso piece of the SP//dr mech.
The articulation of each of those 3 figures is in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, thighs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles, plus Wanda’s ponytail and headpool’s propellor. We are very pleased with these figures, and have displayed them on the good spot upon the shelf next to the recent figures of X-23, Gwenpool, Domino and Storm! Nextly I would like to praise Mattel’s DC Multiverse action figure of Jessica Cruz, who is one of the totally awesome latest members of the Green Lantern Corp!
So like, Jennifer is the heroic Mexican American girl who inherited the Power Ring, which would seem to be the wonderful situation, except that her ring has the evil mind of its own, fur shur! This 6 3/8 in. action figure is among the wave of 5 action figures that also include Superman, Batwoman, Two-Face, and the Martian Manhunter. Each fis sold separately and includes one of the pieces needed to build the figure of Clayface, whose legs and the Green Lantern power battery are included with the figure of Jennifer!
She is awesomely designed, sculpted & painted, from her tan skin, slightly smiling Dark Red lips, mid-back length Black hair, and the Green tattoo around her right eye, to her slim lithe physique, the skin tight Green, White & Black uniform and the Power Ring upon her right middle finger, fur shur! The articulation is in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, thighs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles; and the Power Battery can be grasped by her left hand.
We are totally pleased with this figure, and have displayed her upon the shelf next to the figures of Batwoman, the Batgirl of Burnside, Katana and Mera! I should also mention that although the figures are balanced well enough to stand, a display base is not included with these figures, so like, you might want to use some figure / doll stands for displaying them. That is all for this month’s toy talk, and now here is Becca to present our
movie mewsings, with her review of The Predator!
Hai! The Predator is the sixth movie in the Predator series. of which I enjoyed the first two the most. This time some incarcerated soldiers aboard the military purrison bus break free whilst one of the Yauja alien (Predator) attacks the secret government base, where they team up with the fleeing scientist who is purrtrayed by Olivia Munn who we liked as Psylocke in X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.
Nyow the escaped convicts are fighting the two fronts: against the government officers and the predator! However, the alien attack becomes too purrsonal for the Army snipurr, whose son has the confiscated technology that the predator wants back, and then a second predator arrives with the neat alien hunting dogs to track down the purrior purredator! The dogs are actually quite playful!
The movie was directed by Shane Black who also directed Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys, wrote Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon 2, The Monster Squad, The Last Boy Scout, and Last Action Hero, and he appurred in the first Predator movie! The incidents of the first 2 Predator movies are briefly mentioned, but Alien vs Predator, Alien vs Predator: Requiem and Predators are not referenced.
I should not further spoil the tastee of the plot, which certainly seems intended to spawn more sequels, much in the way that did Independence Day: Resurgence. The movie seemed rushed and short, but it is fun and action packed with visual FX, violence, gore and purrofanity aplenty. The likable soldiers are the sort of “Dirty Half Dozen, and the cast is purrhaps my favorite aspect of the movie.
It also stars Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski and Augusto Aguillera. I enjoyed this’un more than Alien vs Predator, Alien vs Predator: Requiem and Predators, and I certainly would not mind seeing another good sequel. Nextly I would like to discuss the
Solo: A Star Wars Story 2 Disk BluRay Set!
We enjoyed Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was was directed by Ron Howard and stars Alden Ehrenriech as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra, Woody Harrelson as Beckett, Thandie Newton as Val, Paul Bettany as Vos, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as L3, and Erin Kellyman as Enfys!
For our review of the movie, please see our June 2018 Mew! We have also purrchased the soundtrack CD, the hardcover art book, and several of the toys, so we have eagerly awaited the release of the movie upon the home video! It is available in the BluRay, the DVD, and the 4K editions. but I am just reviewing the 2 disk BluRay edition.
It includes the movie on the 1st disk, the bonuses on the 2nd disk, and the digital download instruction sheet in the plastic case in the cardboard sleeve, The PG-13 rated, 136 minute movie is purresented in the 2.39:1 widescreen format with the language choices of English, English descriptive audio, French & Spanish, and the optional subtitle choices of English, French & Spanish.
The Dolby Digital audio &1080p video are of the lovely sound & image quality with very legible subtitles, although I wish that the audio choices also included the commentaries or the isolated music track. The bonus disk has about 93 minutes of informative & entertaining bonuses, with the optional subtitle choices of English, English SDH, French Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean & Thai.
They begin with the fun 21.75 Roundtable discussion with Ron Howard, actors Alden Ehrenrich, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotomo, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge & Paul Bettanyat the card game table. There is the 7.75 min. discussion by screenplay wrier Lawrence Kasdan, and the several featurettes on the making of the movie.
With the behind-the-scenes footage & comments by members of the cast & crew., the featurettes include the 5.5 min. on the Millennium Falcon, the 10 min. on the Escape from Corellia 14.5 min. on the Train Heist, 6.75 min, on Chewie, 5 min on L3, 8 min. on Fort Ypso and 8.5 min. on The Kesel Run.To top it off are the 7 deleted & extended versions of scenes, which total to about the 15.25 min.
Those scenes include Proxima’s Den, the Corellian Foot Chase, Han as the Imperial Cadet, the snowball fight, snowball fight, the Coaxum Double-Cross, the extended scene of meeting Dryden, and the Han vs Chewie extended fight. I wish that there were more bonuses, such as perhaps the booklet, art galleries, or the movie’s teasers / trailers / TV spots.
Nevertheless, I am pleased with the 2 disk BluRay set which we will watch oftenly. We also hope that there might be home video releases of the Star Wars: Forces of Destiny animated series, the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the new Star Wars: Resistance animated series, and the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. That is all for this portion of The Mew, and nyow here is Vonny to begin
our comic book reports, with her
review of West Coast Avengers #2!
Arigato, nya! I have been eagerly anticipating this series for the several reasons, but purrhaps mostly because it has the return of my favoritest Marvel Comics character Greer Grant Nelson a.k.a Tigra who I have not seen since Avengers Academy was cancelled the few years ago; and it also has the return of America Chavez whose series was also sadly cancelled nya.
You know, the cancellations have been the unfortunate trend for many of ourrecent favorite Marvel Comics such as Avengers Academy, Fearless Defenders, Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat, America, and The Unstoppable Wasp, so we hope that the cancellation curse will not fall upon this latest incarnation of the West Coast Avengers, nya!
Greer’s first secret heroic identity was that of The Cat before she became Tigra and gave the cat costume to her friend Patsy Walker a.k.a HellCat, nya. They were both members of The Avengers, and Tigra was also a founding member of the West Coast Avengers, nya. From 1984 to 1994, that comic book was the four-issue miniseries, followed by the 102 issue series and annuals, nya.
The Avengers Academy was sort of a West Coast Avengers when they relocated from New York to California, nya. Unfortunately in this tale she is the enemy, nya! Another founding member of the West Coast Avengers was Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye, who also appurrs in this new series, which also stars Kate Bishop (who is yet another Hawkeye), GwenPool, Fuse, and Kid Omega, nya!
Issue #2 is purriced $4.99, it is rated T+, and its 28 pages are compurrised of the 5 pages of the ads the 1 credits / recap page, character the 2 pages of character purrofiles and the 20 page tale
which was written by Kelly Thompson, illustrated by Stefano Caselli, colored by Triona Farrell, lettered by Joe Carmagna, and edited by Alanna Smith with the graphic design by Carlos Lao, nya.
It is available in the choice of the 3 different covers by Nolan Woodward & Steffano; Tony Fleecs (whose pony art we like too); and Tim Tsung, nya! Purreviously, Kate formed the new team of heroes who are also the house mates in Santa Monica, California, and their first mission in was to confront Tigra who is unfortunately inexplicably 200 ft. tall, enraged and destructive, nya!
The in the cliffhanger a dude named B.R.O.D.O.X. (the Bio-Robotic Organism Designed Only For Kissing), arrived, which brings us up to this issue as the fight resumes and he mysteriously telepathically purrsuades Tigra to leave. However, the untrusting heroes are convinced that B.R.O.D.O.X. is actually the villain named M.O.D.O.K. in disguise, nya!
Nevertheless, While the Hawkeyes investigate the A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) corpurrate headquarters for clues about the villain’s scheme and what happened to Tigra, the other heroes invite B.R.O.D.O.X back to their unfinished home at Venice Beach for the movie night, where we meet the mascot dog Lucky, who appurrs to be the Yellow Lab, nya!
However I should not reveal too much more of the plot, which was quite amewsing with the witty dialogue and the lovely art, and I purrticulrly liked the front cover and the the two full-page pics which are graced by Tiger in the new version of her bikini, but it is sad that she has undergone yet another transformation and hope that she will purrk up soon, nya!
I hope that her widdle catboy son William is Ok too, and I wonder if she was enlarged by some of Dr. Hank Pym’s Pym particles, nya! She and Hank were the romantic couple, you know, nya! The purrofile pages give more information about the heroes, so I will give this issue the grade of the “A” as in Avengers, nya! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nyan-sensei for her review of
Ant-Man and The Wasp #5, nya!
Hai! The Unstoppable Wasp comics starring Nadia Van Dyne alias The Wasp, which was one of our favoritest comics of last year until it was sadly cancelled, but we were very happy to hear that it will be renewed this fall! We were glad to see this 5 issue mini – series in which Nadia teams up with Scott Lang, alias Ant-Man!
Nadia and Scott are the 2nd heroes known as The Wasp and Ant-Man, in the comics, as Nadia’s step-mom Janet and her dad Henry Pym were the first Wasp and Ant-Man! They are different from the characters in the recent movie, in which Henry’s daughter Hope is the current Wasp.
Thus far in the tale, When Nadia tried to beam Scott to the Earth from another planet. they became stranded in the microverse! The tinier civilization known as The Saarg mistook Nadia for the monster, so they caught and impurrisoned her, but she escaped with Scott and Burr Dalen the alien scientist they tried to leave the microverse, but then even more strange things happened!
At one point they thought they were back home, but things are still not right with their subatomic purrticles which have altered the reality! That brings us to issue #5 in which Nadia, Scott & Burr wind up back on Earth… supposedly! Its 28 pages are compurrised of the 22 page tale plus the 6 pages of the interrupting ads.
It was written by Mark Waid who wrote Nadia’s first tale and her adventures in the Avengers comics! It was illustrated by Javier Garron, colored by Israel Silva, lettered by Joe Caramanga, edited by Nick Lowe & Jordan D. White, and assistantly edited by Kathleen Wisneski, with the purrduction design by Anthony Gambino & the cover art by David Nakayana!
Nadia, Scott & Burr seem to be larger than the planet Earth but it is among the numerous illusions caused by the sentient subatomic particle that they are connected to, so they have to science it out. before the the entire space-time continuum suffers the catastrophic effects! Some of the physics talk is above my head, but it is quite the thrilling fun conclusion!
The plot is captivatingly amewsing with the brisk pace and the peppy dialogue, with the beautiful character, mecha, scenic & font art with the richly luminously colors & FX! I will give this mini – series the “A” as in Ant – Man, and we very eagerly looking forward to Nadia’s next mini-series when she is reunited with her genius girl team! Nextly I would like to discuss
Fathom vol. 7 #3!
This year is 20th anniversary of the late artist / author Michael Turner’s Fathom, which was initially published by Top Cow Comics in 1998, before it later migrated to Aspen Comics which was founded by Turner in 2003. We were fortunate to meet Turner and other Aspen authors and artists at the Heroes Conventions in Charlotte!
Aspen is also the name of Fathom’s main character Aspen Matthews, the marine biologist, olympic athlete and supurr heroine with the watery powers. She was born in the undersea civilization known as The Blue, but raised as a human in San Diego. Since then she has survived and resolved the numerous global disasters, conflicts and cultural changes.
In this new 8 issue story arc, once again Aspen and her family and friends are being hassled by the US government, the Russian Government, and The Blue dissidents! While her brother Finn was kidnapped and experimented upon by the Russians, She has been caught and impurrisoned along with her old rival Killian by the dissident named Gideon.
It is written by Ron Marz, illustrated by Siya Oum, edited by Gabe Carrasco, and colored by Aspen Comics’s co-owner Peter Steigerwald with the background assistance by John Heagy and lettered by Zen, with the design & purroduction by Aspen Comics Vice Purresident Mark Roslan and purrduction assistance by Justin Vancho.
Issue #3 is purriced $3.99 and its 32 pages include the 20 page tale plus the 4 pages repurrint more of Fathom #0, and the 8 pages of the ads, . It is available in the choice of the 4 different covers: cover by Oum & Steigerwald, cover B by Romina Moranelli, covers C & D by Oum.
The tale resumes at the fancy casino in Macao where Russian agent Alexyev a.k.a. The Red Kite tussles with Aspen’s NSA agent friend Chance Calloway who is investigating Finn’s kidnapping! Alexyev is the one who kidnapped Finn, whose supurr aquatic powers the Russians wish to duplicate for the sinister military purrposes!
Meanwhile at the undersea city of Muria, Aspen and Killian discuss the political situation and escape from the dungeon! I hope that Aspen, Kilian, Finn and Chance will soonly be reunited to devastate the enemy! As mewsual the art is gorgeous, from the Blue couture to the lavish locations, especially when delicted in the full-page pics and panoramic spurreads! Nyow here is sis to tell us about
Beasts of Burden: Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men #2!
Hai! Created by author Evan Dorken (Milk and Cheese, The Eltingville Club) and artist Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother, At Death’s Door) Beasts of Burden is the beautiful bittersweet fantasy tale of heroic friends who have investigated the purranormal incidents and defended their town from evil supurrnatural threats, but in this case those defenders are cats, dogs and other critters!
To most of its human residents, Burden Hill seems like the pleasant purretty town, but little do they know of their pets’ vigilance against wicked purredators! It is the very charming, Eisner Award – winning tale of wonderful characters, amewsing and thrilling but sometimes sadly tragic situations. At the 2012 Heroes Con, Jill & Evan signed my copy of the Beasts of Burden hardcover!
Some of the tales were tales co-written by Evan’s wife Sarah Dryer (Action Girl). Thusly far in this 4 issue mini-series the group of 16 dogs from Burden Hill have encountered the injured animals in the cruel traps, and deadly mewtant lurker monsters in the wilderness, while on the misison to investigate the macabre incidents at the Cotters’ Farm in Derrington which is yet another day’s travel.
The tale was written by Evan, illustrated by Benjamin Dewey, lettered by Nate Pekos, edited by Daniel Chabon, and assistantly edited by Brett Israel, with the issue’s graphic design by Sarah Terry & the digital technical wizardry by Chris Horn. The main cover is by Benjamin and the variant cover is by Dustin Nguyen. The dogs include Lundy Gerda, Miranda, Dempsey, Brigid, Charlie, Emrys, Triss & Carver.
The pack stops at their bulldog friend Huxley’s rural home, which is owned by his master Arthur, the magickal human who can talk to the dogs, but before they reach the farm they are attacked by more of the hideous monsters. Dymphna the witchy cat has the brief cameo appurrance seen in the scrying pond! The plot & dialogue are poignant, and the art beautifully depicts the characters, scenery& FX!
I will give this tale of the Beasts of Burden is nyow 1/2 over, and I will thus farly give it the high purraise grade of the “A” as in Arthur, and as in my anticipation for the next issue! Nextly I would like to comment upon another favorite supurrnatural mini-series published by Dark Horse–
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 12 #4!
It is hard to believe that it has been over the 25 years since the original Buffy movie, over 20 years since the TV series, 17 years since the Fray series, and over 10 years since Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon and Dark Horse Comics canonically continued those adventures in the comics, which is already tup to the final issue of Season 12!
The 4th issue’s 28 pages include the 22 page story plus the 2 pages of the comments & 4 pages of ads. Executively produced by Joss, the story is by Joss & scripter Christos Gage; it was pencilled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Karl Story, Derxter Vines & Andy Owens, colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Richard Starkings & Jimmy Betancourt!
It was edited by Freddye Miller, assistantly edited by Judy Khuu & Jenny Blenk; the issue’s graphic designer was Anita Magana, and the digital art technician was Christianne Gillenardo-Goudreau. The main cover art is by Stephanie Hans, while the variant cover art is by Georges, Karl and Dan; and the “ultravariant” cover art is Steve Morris.
We have met Christos, Georges, Dexter and Karl at the conventions! The story co-stars Gates & future slayer sisters Melaka & Erin Fray, who try to help Buffy, Wilow, Xander, Dawn, Faith, Spike, Angel Andrew & Illyria to defeat Harrh Fray’s evil army of demons & vampires that includes former mayor Dick Wilkins & the law firm of Wolfram & Hart!
Harmony & Gunther appurred in this season too! In the year betwixt seasons 11 & 12, things were well for the heroes. Buffy has been been working with the San Francisco PD, she & Spike broke up again but are still friends, Willow started the pagan suppurrt center, Giles is back to normal, Xander & Dawn have the cute baby daughter Joyce!
Angel & Illyria might have the romance too! That was until Melaka & Erin’s brother Harth in the future sent his army back to the purresent to kill Buffy and alter the future timeline! The battle has not gone well for the heroes, with many casualties amongst the Buffy’s slayer girl army, and things worsened when Harth absorbed all of the Slayers’ powers!
That brings us up to the despurrate final stand in issue #4 which takes place in the purresnt and in the 23rd century, as Willow tries to open the portal that will suck out the villains whilst Harth steals Buffy’s scythe and is closer to altering the timeline, but I should not further spoil the taste of the thrilling, poignant plot that concludes season 12!
It has the great balance of the mythology, humor, drama & action with the great dialogue & significant developments amidst the tragic, bloody combat. The art is supurrb with the terrific portraitures, expuressions, fashions, poses, choreography, scenery, FX, fonts, colors and the graphic narrative of the panels that I’ll give it an “A” as in Angel!

Star Trek vs Transformers #1, nya!
Hai! You know, there have have been the Star Trek crossovers in the comic books with the other franchises such as Docgtor Who, Aliens, the X-Men, Green Lantern, and the Legion of Super-Heroes; whilst the Transformers had the crossovers in the toys with G.I. Joe., Star Wars, Marvel and Macross!
Not only have Star Trek & the Transformers finally met, but this mini-series is appurropriately and purrfectly illustrated in the style of the 1973 animated Star Trek series! The Enterprise crew & the Autobots team up against the Klingon crew & the Decipticons on the Dilithium mining outpost!

This was the clever fun issue with the neat dialogue, such as Sulu saying “Oh my!” and Spock noting that there is “more than meets the eye! I can purractically hear the voice actors! The art is beautiful and purrfectly captures the animated style, so I will give the 1st issue the grade of the “A” as in Arex! Nyow I will start off
this month’s manga mewsings,
with my review of 12 Beast vol. 6!
The 12 Beast manga is written & drawn by Okayado who is also the author of Monster Musume! Both series purrtain to a reluctant guy whose life winds up surrounded by a harem of monster girls! It is the comedic fantasy / action tale full of the ribald fan service, in which Eita the high school video gamer otaku & ninja who got telepurrted to the world populated by monster girls!
Ample attention given to the scantily – clad ladies’ bodies, especially when Eita grabs the boobies in order to power his magick. It is the lewd gesture, but he uses the magical power to combat the villains, and since volume 1 he has rescued the village of harpies, the home town of the minotaurs, the floating city of the merfolk, and the snowy mountain settlement the werewolves!
That brings us up to Volume 6, which introduces the lamia snake girls and the centaur army! It is purriced at $13.99 in the USA & $15.99 in Canada. Originally published in Japan by Kadokawa, this English edition is published here by Seven Seas which publishes many other manga that we crave such as Monster Musume, Girls Und Panzer, Strike Witches, and 12Beast!

Victoria Robado and William Ringrose, purrduction management by Lissa Pattillo, purrduction assistance by CK Russell, and the cover design by Nicky Lim!
It has been the while since vol. 5, which was published in September of 2017! Eita and Freki the wolf girl were trapped in on the cave where they met Theta, who helped them and the harpies against the enemy human army, but the danger was far from over when the snipurr and the giant mech arrived, for the deadly game of cat and mouse with Eita that continues in vol. 6!
As the duel unfolds we learn more of the snipurr’s origin as the big game hunter, who nyow pits his wits, skills & rifle against Eita’s ninja training, gaming purrowess & magickal gauntlet! Meanwhile, the morale is low for the human army, but the werewolves enjoy the yummy feast thanks to the ironic benefactor! Then we meet Bret and the other centaurs who wish to recruit Eita!
However, Eita’s is also desired by the lamias who are the centaur’s enemies! The sexy snake girls are willing to be his harem, and spend several pages erotically purrsuading him, but the seduction is interrupted when the villain and his sheep girl valet strike again!
There are 3 bonus pages of information about the lamias, such as Taksak whose sizes are 93H – 58 – 92 cm! There is good balance of humor, action & developments with ample large panels including half & full-page pics that display the beautiful characters & scenery! I am done so nyow here is Trini-chan to discuss
A Centaur’s Life vol. 15!
Hai! A Centaur’s Life is the beautiful, charming, slice – of – life tale manga by Ken Murayama set in the world populated by centaurs, fauns, kemonomimi, angels, dracon, unicorn, snake, frog people, were – tigers & other species in a contemporary world. the main characters are usually Himeno the centauress, her high school classmates and their families.
The plots typically focus on activities at school, home & work, amidst the mysterious dreams, conspiracies. paranormal encounters with the aliens, cultural differences, and the war betwixt the human and rebel amphibian folks. It was edited by Shannon Fay, and proofread by Janet Houck, with the logo design by Courtney Williams, cover design by Nicky Lim, and purrduction management by Lissa Pattilo with the assistance by CK Russell. The editor in chief is Adamn Arnold and the publisher is Jason DeAngelis. It is suggested for readers who are at least older teens, purrhaps due to nudity, language, sexuality & violence.
Himeno’s friends are Mitsu the satyr girl, Michi the unicorn girl, Nozomi the Dragon girl, Himeno’s niece Shino-chan and Shino’s friend Maki-chan! Other classmates include Hime’s centauress kouhai Ayaka, her maid Okino, Akechi the satyr girl, Inuki the catgirl, snake girl sisters Suu and Nil, Tama the angel girl, her triplet kitten girl sisters Chinami, Chiho, Chigusa, and their younger sister Sue-chan!
This volume has the diverse potpourri of plots, from the continued longer story arcs and the shorter tales to the 2 page afterward and the 1 page vignettes! Himeno is sued by the perv her groped her and got kicked, Shino-chan ponders her future, Eri and other merfolk discuss myths & popular culture, Ayakao and Okino reminisce in the bath, and Kuraba recalls when she first met Tama.
Suu and other snake folk study the mammalian species, Nil debuts as the idol star, Tiger Lee the aggressive tiger taur girl becomes the corporate CEO, the government protest turns violent, Frog rebels hijack the ship, terrorists invade the high school, the psycho stalks the elementary school, the fungi aliens are stranded, and the giant sea monster stars in the action movie…
… plus nude figure drawing, playing house, and the swim race! There are some political, tragic and shocking moments, but A Centaur’s Life continues to be the quite wonderfully whimsical, poignant and sometimes surreal joy to read with the beautiful, intricate art, so I will give vol. 15 the “A” as in Ayaka and Akechi! Nextly I would like to praise
Sunshine Sketch vol. 9!
Sunshine Sketch is the charming, purretty, whimsical manga by Ume Aoki about the group of teen girl students who reside in the Hidemari apurrtment building across the street from the Yamabuki School of Arts in Kanto! It is a humorous slice-of-life tale in the 4 koma (panel) comic strip format, which is mostly of the 2 columns of 4 Black & White panels per page.
It was originally published as Hidemari Sketch by Houbunsha in Japan, and the English version is published here by Yen Press which has published some of my favorite manga such as Spice and Wolf Omamori Himari, Kemono Friends, Ichiroh, Suzunari, Shoulder-A-Coffin Kuro, Geijutsuka Art Design Class, SS Astro K-ON, Today’s Cerberus and School-Live!
Volume 9 was longly – awaited, because volume 8 was published here back in December of 2015! It was translated by Sheldon Drzka & lettered by Abigail Blackman; it is priced $17.00 in the USA, $22.50 in Canada, and has 120 pages comprised of the 112 Black & White pages, the 8 color pages, bonus interior cover art, and the color outer cover art!

Hiro the college Freshman with the Light Brown twin-tailed coiffure, and Sae the college Freshman with the Black hair and the glasses! Also appearing are Mashiko-sensei the guidance counselor, Yoshinoya-sensei the voluptuous art teacher, Yuno’s mom, dad and their cat! When this series started, Yuno and Miyako were the high school Sophomores!
Among the amusing situations are Matsuri’s moving day, the art purrojects, the counseling, Yuno back home, the school trip to Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, the tour of Ama Art College, the squid dinner, and shopping for the swim wear! Much attention to the details of the art, the sight- seeing, the foods and the garments; and there is the page of translation notes!
The humorous plots have such peppy, genki spirit and pace; with the art is beautifully character, food and scenic art that is peppered occasionally by the the cartoonier chibi & super – deformed styles for comedic effects! That will conclude this month’s manga mewsings, so now I will turn The Mew back over to Mike for his review of the
OO7 Magazine’s Bond Girls of the 1970’s Caroline Munro issue and Limited Edition 2019 Calendar!
OO7 Magazine is an awesome magazine about the James Bond movies, so I was eager to get their special issue & companion calendar devoted to English actress, model & mom Caroline Munro! In addition to her role as Naomi in The Spy Who Loved Me, her other movies include Starcrash, Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter, Dracula A.D. 1972, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, At The Earth’s Core, Maniac, and The Last Horror Film.
She’s also appeared in TV shows, and many advertisements; she portrayed the reporter in Adam Ant’s “Goody Two-Shoes” music video, and has been a guest at many cons! The 36 page magazine is about 11.75 x 8.25″, consisting of Luke G. Williams’s 2012 interview with her, and over 100 (mostly color) modeling, publicity, and behind – the – scenes photos, including several full – page pics!
The 11.75 x 8.25″ calendar opens to 11.75 x 11.5″, and above each month’s 3.25 x 11.75″ date grid is a 13 x 11.25″ photo (8 color, 4 B&W) of her wearing bikinis, maillots, lingerie, a vest & jeans, and her pant suit from The Spy Who Loved Me.
5 of the images are repeated at a smaller size on the front cover and 2 leafs, while a 6.75″ x 8.25″ photo of her in a Blue maillot graces the back cover. I’ll highly recommend these lovely publications to the fans of Caroline and her movies! Ah, that’ll do it for our reviews, and now here are Petra and Bunni to present the latest

… and Haalanakeami who co-owns the Dive-In Theatre! Perhaps y’all have seen the pics of her daughter Melanakeami? Mike used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse to illustrate this scene of the ladies wearing the translucent strapless bras which are sustain-ably mer-made from bells of naturally deceased, locally caught jellyfish, which are available in numerous iridescent colors and cup sizes!
Then we have Mike’s Photoshop CS2 & Mouse illustration of “Eeebee”, who is one of the NPCs in the tabletop RPG that Mike game masters, nya! She has supurr strength & durability, vast energy powers, telepathic computer-like mind, and empathic heart, nya! She is depicted wearing her bare midriffed, Purrple & White maid costume in outer space, nya!
Mike also used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse for ths fan art of “Madame Brigitte”, who is the very powerful supernatural protector of the cemeteries and is the wife of Baron Samedi in the Vodou Iwa lore! This illustration was done for Sharon Williams http://sailorsirius.webs.com, who was the guest for our November 2014 Mew!
Brigitte and Samedi are among the famous mythological characters who appear in Sharon’s serialized prose fantasy tales of the Yoruba adventure “Legacy of the Gods”, which y’all can read at her DeviantArt gallery caribbeanrose9.deviantart.com!
Then we have the illustration of “Cmdr. Venture Duursaama”who was Mike’s character in a Star Trek role – playing game in the early 1990’s! Born in the year 2252 on the planet Alpha Centauri, Venture was the athletic, lucky, heroic, streetwise, telepathic connoisseur, sportsman, and Starfleet Intelligence officer!
He was very James Bond-ish. For much of the game’s tale he was aboard the starship U.S.S. Artemis and later married Dr. Leonard McCoy’s daughter Dr. Joanna McCoy! In this illustration he is wearing the Starfleet officer duty uniform comprised of the White turtleneck shirt, Maroon coat, Black pants, belt & boots!
Lastly but not leastly is Mike’s fan art of “Dr. Joanna McCoy”, the daughter of Dr. leonard McCoy! She was only briefly mentioned canonically in the 1973 animated Star Trek’s episode “The Survivor” and in producer Gene Roddenberry’s book The Making of Star Trek, so this is how Mike envisioned her for the game.
She was the female human starfleet officer of the Commander rank, born in in Atlanta, Georgia in 2251, the Year of the Rabbit! She has Brown eyes, Dark Brown hair and the slim 5’ 4” build of 115 lbs with the BWH sizes of 32B-24-34” and is depicted here in her White medical uniform! So, what do y’all think of the art?
I love the purrallel symmetry of Nilla-Creme’s head, arms tail and the ropes in the Swing pic, and the adorably playful pose of Bexxa!
Oh I like the looseness and flow of the earthy garments of the Kind Mage, the serene expurression and relaxed ears of the Nap pic!
My favorite aspect of the Allure and Wild pics are the sheen of their hair and the lovely flower tucked by the ears!
The playing card motif is the clever background vignette for Venture & Joanna, and the details of their uniforms seem purrcisely accurate.
Hai hai, but I feel so sorry for the lad with the Hangover and the poor girl under the Dark Cloud- I wish I could hug them both!
I love how Sailor Moon’s twin tailed hair splays out like the crescent moon, and – and how the cats are framed by the heroic stance, nya!
I think that the use of color and light is quite exquisite in the pics of Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury, nya!
The Sexy Wolf has the impurressive tight six pack of the abs, and Corrine’s attire has the great fabric folds and drapurry!
I think that Mike quite captured Cait Lynn’s looks and spirit, and the scene of Brigitte has the effective spooky moonlit ambience!
My favorite aspect of Miss Kitty is the breezy motion of her hair, and my favorite aspect of Big Bad Wolf is his look of satisfaction!
I purrtcularly like Eeebee’s Black Purrl skin tone, and the diversity of the mermaids in the Fashion Show pic!
We had so much fun with the fashions, friends and fins at the Grotto Gallery, nya!
Thank y’all the kind, words, and for presenting the new art!
Bunni & Petra:
The Cat Lady Sings…
I purrticularly like the color of the POLYPHEMUS, NYA!
(the distracted catgirl with camera scampurrs after the large purretty moth)
Ahh- TARA-Chan–! Nya!
I wannna see it too!
(the kitsune girl purrsues her best friend and the interesting insect)
There they go again.
Well, I guess that will wrap up another edition of The Mew!
We wish to thank Rebecca and Jamie for more of their beautiful art!
Hai! We wish to thank Jamie for his web mastery here at The Mew and Catgirl Island…
We also wish to thank the many many other talented folks whose works we discussed…
… and our other friends, family, acquaintances and audience whom we appurreciate, nya!

The Ladies of The Mew:
Happy tails to mew, until we eat again- baibai, nya!
