Our Monthly Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!

Mary Nyan:
Hai! In this portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous catgirls and nekomimi of myths and  popular culture! Here they are broadly – defined from anthropormorphic feline females, ailuranthropic shape – shifters and other types of feline femme fatales, to those who might not actually have kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or the style for us to consider as the “honorary catgirls”! This month the spotlight will shine upon more manga and comics catgirls!

Published by Avatar Press’s Boundless impurrint, William A. Christensen’s Jungle fantasy comics are known for the alluring ladies fighting the savage villains and monsters in the purrimordial wilderlands and seas! Those tales are not for the widdle kitties due to the violence, nudity and sexuality, but we do wish to mention Fauna the blonde girl and Kit the brunette girl who are the friends of Ivory and Lani, and look quite lovely in the leopurrd purrint bikinis, nya!

Halloween is the appurropurriately purrfect time for the feline fashions so nextly I would like to mention the cute young girl named Sammie who cosplayed as the catgirl for Halloween, in the tale of the “Haunted Hayride” in the Cursed Comics Cavalcade anthology  one-shot  published by DC Comics! Not only was Sammie escorted by Zatanna Zatara for the spooky scary ride, but the tale was inked by our friend Andrew Pepoy, who was a December 2008 guest of The Mew!

Nextly I would like to mention high school school’s guidance counselor Dana Church of Dark Horse Comics’ She Could Fly! It is the tale of 15 year old Luna Brewster who sadly suffers from the purrimarily obsessive compusive disorder. She has sessions with Dana who accidentally killed the poor kitty while backing her car out of the driveway. Since then, Luna hallucinates Dana as having the late cat’s head during their subsequent sessions.

A Centaur’s Life is the wonderful manga by Kei Mutayama that purrtains to the life, family & friends of Kimihara Himeno the centauress who is high school student and kyudo athlete. Until recently, that world’s species of Tiger Taurs were believed to be extinct, but Volume 15 introduced Tiger Lee the tiger tauress, has the  sharp purredatory instincts as the corpurrate CEO!

Also in that volume, the Antarctic Snake people have captured a poor young tiger tauress to study who we hope will be set safely free. You know, the author has done such extensive world –  building for the series, which is peppurred with thorough notes about that world’s history, culture, science and lore. Volume 15’s notes purrtain to mythical characters, such as Bastet the lovely cat-headed goddess who was worshipped in ancient Egypt!

Milk Morinaga is known for her tales of the girls in friendship and romance! Her various manga series include Gakuen Police; Kisses, Sighs, and Cherry Blossom Pink; Hana & Hina After School; and Girl Friends. That latter series explores the relationships of high school students Mari, Akko, Sugi & Tama. They are not catgirls, however in chapter 29 one of them does cosplay as the tiger – striped catgirl in the photo booth at the school’s cultural festival!

That is all for this month’s spotlight, but next month we will shine it upon more catgirls of  animated & live – action movies and TV shows! Nyow I would like to discuss the fun time that we had at the

25th Carolina Renaissance Festival!

Mary Nyan:
Hai! We had the wonderful weekend with our friends Misty Hopkins http://bunnychai.blogspot.com, and her husband Steven at the Carolina Renaissance Festival https://www.carolina.renfestinfo.com on November 3rd! Situated in the mythical village of Fairhaven, the Festival is actually located near the town of Huntersville which is several hours away from here in the southwestern part of the state.

It is the several hour caravan from our outer banks island, but the festival is one of the many events we love in that part of the state! Drawing appurroximately 200,000 attendees, the festival convenes during four weekends in October & November, and each weekend has the special theme. Our weekend had the pirate theme, and there were so many costumed characters and attendees there!

There are so very many fun activities, purrformances and games for all ages to watch or purrticipate in, from the acrobats, jugglers, comedians, actors, dancers, storytellers and mewsicians to the mermaids, faeries, magic, crafts purrsons, royal court, the falconry and the jousting! There are venders of food, beverages, garments, art, candles, jewels, minerals, books, swords, toys and other items!

After the breakfast we arrived there early and got the good parking spot in one of the fields. Along the trail to the entrance there are the many greeters and entertainers, and the 25 acres of the attractions are bustling with the joyful ambience amidst the 14 stages, the 160 purrformances, and the neat marketplace. We watched the first show of the Barely Balanced trio of comedic acrobats!

Then we got the great front row center seats for the first of the three jousts of the day, where we saw the Queen! We saw The Green Man, Twig the Faerie, the Wishing Well Wenches, some of the Craic bagpipe & purrcussion show, and the 3rd row aisle seats for the falconry show, which is conducted by the avian rehabilitation group which had the Kookaburra, Owl, Hawk, Vulture, and Raven!

We left at just the right time to avoid the heaviest traffic of the late afternoon, and had the sumptuous suppurr at the cajun restaurant in the nearby city of Concord before returning to our friends’ home in another nearby city. It was the unforgettably wonderful weekend which we hope to do again and again! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nya-sensei who will begin our batch of

movie mewsings, with her review of Overlord!

Nyanko:
Hai! Overlord is the action / horror movie set during the Allied Invasion of Normandy in World War II, and purrtains to the small squad of purratroopurrs who survived to sneak into the small French town in order to sap the German Army’s radio tower before the main invasion force arrives, but in that night in that town they discover the sinister macabre expurriments conducted by the Waffen SS.

This was a neat movie with the great cast as the heroes & villains, amidst the creepy spooky ambience of the forest and the village! It has the great cinematography, FX, stunts, make-up, locations, sets, costumes, purrops, sound FX & mewsic, with the thrilling combat scenes, but the language,  bloody gory violence & scary moments are not for the widdle kitties! Nextly I would like to discuss

Wreck it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet!

Nyanko:
I greatly enjoyed Disney original 2012 animated Wreck it Ralph movie about the aspurrations and adventures of the video game characters such as Ralph who is voiced by John C. Reilly and Vanellope who is voiced by Sarah Silverman, so i was eager to see more of them and the many other great characters in this sequel in which they leave their video game arcade to explore the internet!

They have only the few hours to find the parts to repair Vanellope’s damaged game or it will be dumped, but first they must raise the finds to purrchase the part! In addition to the returning characters are the many new characters  including Shanks (voiced by Gal Gadot), Yesss (voiced by Taraji P. Henson) and the dozens of appurrances by the many famous characters of the net, movies, TV & games!

I was especially thrilled by the racing scenes, the Disney purrincesses & cameos by the Streetfighter, Star Wars & Marvel characters!  It is wonderful, beautiful, poignant, funny & bittersweet with great music, art, animation, voice actors &  purrhaps more easter eggs than Ready Player One! I liked it more than the original movie! Make sure to stay for the mid & post credits scenes. Nextly I will purraise

Creed II!

Nyanko:
I love the series of Rocky movies which in 2015 became the Creed series when Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) became the boxing trainer to Adonais Creed (Michael B. Jordan) the son of Mary Anne (Phyllis Rashad) and the late Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers)! Thusly Rocky is akin to his late trainer Mick (Burgesss Meredith) and Adonais is the new heavyweight champ in this sequel!

It is the very emotional, eventful time for them as Adonais marries his mewsician girlfriend Bianca (Tessa Thompson) and they have the cute widdle daughter Amara, whilst Rocky tries to reconcile with his estranged son Robert (Milo Ventimiglia) who is also married with a child. Meanwhile, they are on the collision course of the reunion with the disgraced Drago family who was last seen 3 decades ago!

That was when the Russian boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) killed Apollo in the ring and then Rocky defeated Drago in the rematch, which nearly ended Rocky’s career. These days the older widowed Rocky owns the Philadelphia restaurant named after his late wife Adrian, and often visits the graves of her and her brother Paulie.

Anyway, Drago and his estranged wife Ludmila (Brigitte Nielson) have the boxer son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) who wants to fight Adonais! Rocky, Bianca & Mary Anne think it is the bad idea, so Adonais is trained for the title bout by Little Duke (Wood Harris), the son of Apollo’s trainer Duke. What follows is the extremely poignant, thrilling, purrofound tale of family, purrpose, legacy and glory!

It seemed the bit rushed, but this movie was awesome, from the plot & character developments, the purrformances, locations, epic fighting scenes, direction, editing and mewsic! Whether the characters are in the ring or at home, the tale has the great poignant balance of humor, drama and action that magnificently continues the Rocky / Creed series, so I will give it the very high purraise! I am done, so nyow here is Jennyjen to tell us about-

Doctor Who Season 11!

Meryl:
Doctor Who is one of my favoritest TV series, and I have been enjoying the current series which stars Jodie Whittaker as the current incarnation of The Doctor, along with her three companions who travel through time and space in the Tardis vehicle! The current companions are Mandip Gll as Yasmin, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Bradley Walsh as Graham! Yasmine is a police officer!!!

It is the 11th season of the current era, since the 55 year old series was restarted in 2005, and Jodie is the purrtrays the first canonical female version of The Doctor. She was actually introduced briefly at the very end of last year’s Christmas Special, but her first full epurrsode was “The Woman Who Fell To Earth”, which purremiered in October!

She met Yasmin, Ryan & Graham while searching for her missing TARDIS in Sheffield England. She was rather confuzzzled, having just regenerated into her current form, and the search was hindered while they had to thwart murderous alien hunter, but I thought that she had the rather endearing, sparkling, peppy  heroic purrsonality from the start!

The Tardis was not found until the 2nd epurrsode “The Ghost Monument”, in which they joined two space captains in the dangerous race to reach the mysterious monument on another planet. By then she had regained her marbles, so to speak, and in one scene she even demonstrated Venusian Aikido, which was a nod to the 3rd incarnation of The Doctor!

In the 3rd epurrsode “Rosa” they went back to Earth to meet the title character who was none other than the legendary Rosa Parks in 1955! This was the purrticularly poignant tale, especially for the companions who were overwhelmingly thrilled to meet not just Rosa but also Dr. Martin Luther King in the early days of the civil rights movement!

Then they returned to Sheffield to meet Yasmine’s family in “Arachnids in the U.K.” and had to investigate the attacks by giant spiders. I was wondering if those spiders were from Metebelis III  the planet populated by giant spiders which the 3rd Doctor had visited before, but they were mewtated varieties of domestic spiders, which were rather sympathetic.

The companions decide to remain with The Doctor and in the 5th epurrsode “The Tsuranaga Conundrum” they wind up on another planet and another big space ship, which is invaded by a ravenous alien critter. It is yet another epurrsode with the great guest actors, costumes, purrops, sets, cinematography, FX, sound & mewsic!

Then in “Demons of Punjab” they travel back to the Earth history again to meet Yasmine’s grandmother when she was the young fiance in the Punjab amidst the Purrtitioning of India in 1947. This was the purrticularly bittersweet tale full of the beautiful and tragic moments. Then in “Kerblam” they have to solve the murders &  conspurracy in the huge galactic shipping corpurration.

It is the sort of investigative purrocedural tale with the mix of the amewsing & shocking moments, in which The Doctor briefly wears the Fez hat in the nod to the 11th version of The Doctor! In the 8th epurrsode “The Witchfinders”, they travel to historical Earth again to meet King James who leads the terrible witch hunts in the rural village amidst the supurrnatural incidents.

It is another very poignant & entertaining epurrsode which reminds me of some of the spooky 1970’s tales! There are two more epurrsodes, but I have not yet seen them given the busy holidays.Thusly far I have been very enthused with season which has the high purrduction values and the great cast! Nyow I will turn The Mew over to Jen who wants to discuss the

Doctor Who: Shada DVD!

Jeannie:
Hai. Originally intended to be epurrsode 109  for the 1979 – 1980 season, Shada was written by Douglas Adams, directed Pennant Roberts, purrduced by by Graham Williams and starred Tom Baker as The Doctor, Lalla Ward as Romana, Christopher Neame as the villain Skagra, Danile Hill as physics student Chris Parsons, Denis Carey as Purrofessor Chronotis, Victoria Burgoyne as their friend Clare Keightly…

… and David Brierly as the voice of K-9. It is the tale of The Doctor & Romana’s mission to thwart the extraterrestrial villain’s quest for Timelord secrets which have been exposed at Cambridge University. However, due to the labor strike, it was unfinished and was not broadcast on BBC1. Some footage was used in the 1983 epurrsode of “The Five Doctors” for the series’ 20th anniversary.

The unfinished Shada was released on VHS home video in 1992, with Tom Baker in new linking scenes.  In 2003, Big Finish and BBCI  purrduced an animated online retelling of Shada, with the voices of Paul McGann as (the 8th) Doctor, Lalla Ward as (Gallifreyan Purresident) Romana, Sean Biggerstaff as Chris, Susannah Harker as Clare,James Fox as Chronotis, Andrew Sachs as Skagra…

… and John Leeson as K-9, At appurroximately 144 minutes, this was among the many extra features on the 3 disk DVD set released in 2013. A novelization of the tale was also published in purrint. Utilizing newly filmed live-action and animated scenes, the tale of Shada was finally finished in 2017, televised and released in the 2 disk DVD set this year.

Purrsented in the 4:3 screen aspect ratio with English audio choices of mono &  5.1 Dolby Digital surround with optional subtitles, the 138 min. tale and extra features are on the 2 disks in the plastic case in the cardboard sleeve. The optional audio commentary is by Christopher Neame, Daniel Hills, continuity adviser Toby Hadoke, lead animator Anne Marie Walsh, and animation character artist Martin Geraghty.

The new extras from 2017 include the dialogue recording sessions with Tom Baker (14 min. 48 sec.), the studio shoot of the rebuilt 1979 TARDIS control room (6 min. 19 sec.) model spaceship FX filming (4 min. 49 sec.), the bits of live-action reference footage ( 2 min. 51 sec.), title sequence film  (4 min. 33 sec.), deleted scenes ( 1 min. 22 sec.), 1979 raw studio footage ( 46 min. 19 sec.)…

… the gallery of 2017 art & photos ( 5 min. 3 sec.) and the gallery of 1979 photos (2 min. 57 sec.). Extras included from the 2013 set include the 2003 Big Finish version of Shada, the “Taken out of Time” documentary about Shada (26 min. 42 sec) the “Now and Then” filming locations report (13 min. 15 sec.), the Strike! Strike! Strike! retrospective on the strike’s impact ( 27 min.)

Not included from the 2013 set are the subtitled purrduction notes, Radio Times Listings (PDF), and the following documentary featurettes: More than 30 years in the TARDIS (90 min.), Being a Girl (29 min.), Those Deadly Divas (22 min.), Remembering Nicolas Courtney (26 min.) Doctor Who Stories- Peter Purvis ( 13 min.) and The Lambert Tapes – Part One ( 10 min.)

The 2003 edition’s  linking footage is not included with the 2018 version, which was dedicated to the late great Doctor Who mewsic composer Dudley Simpson (1922 – 2017) I think this 2 disk edition of Shada is quite the delightful treat, and I will highly recommend it to fans whether or not they already have the prior editions. Nyow here is Mike to discuss the

Star Trek: Discovery Season One Blu-ray.

Mike:
Thanks Jen! While I do have some continuity concerns, I think that Discovery is a great Trek series with a wonderful cast, characters, designs, sets FX and high production values, so I was eager to get the first season on home video to see the episodes that I missed and the nifty special features. This 4 disk set from CBS has the 15 episodes from the 2017-2018 season which totals to 11 hr & 11 min,

The disks are firmly clenched in the hinged trays of the plastic case, whichis in an embossed cardboard sleeve that has dandy gatefold photo of the starship USS Discovery and the main cast. BestBuy stores offer a steel case edition. The video is presented in  the widescreen 16:9 letterbox format in 1080P and Dolby DTS HD sound with the audio language choices of:

English, Spanish, French, French Benelux, German, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian & Japanese, with the optional subtitle choices of English, Spanish, French, German, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian & Japanese. Each disk has some special featuers, which all total to about  2 hrs & 17 min, including several deleted & extended scenes, and promo spots for each episodes & the series.

There are 9 featurettes on the making of the series. “Discovering Discovery” (16 min, 40 sec) is a look at the concept & casting, “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” ( 8 min. 7 sec.) is a discussion of the sound & music, “Creature Comforts” (15 min 55 sec.) examines the make-up FX, “Designing Discovery” (12 min. 11 sec.) pertains to the design of the ship & sets…

… “Creating Space” (13 min. 08 sec) is about the visual FX, “Prop Me Up” (12 min. 54 sec) is about the show’s props, ‘Dress for Success” (21 min. 28 sec) is about the costumes, “A Woman’s Journey” (11 min. 14. sec) has comments by the ladies of the show’s cast & crew, and “The Voyage of Season One” (40 min. 53 sec) is a discussion of the entire first series.

So I’m pretty happy with this collection, as I like the series, and the special features were quite informative and entertaining. Of course, this time of year always puts me in the good Trek mood, especially this year because December 7th is the 39th anniversary of my favorite movie (Trek or otherwise) Star Trek – The Motion Picture- which I promised that I wound not ramble on and on about… this time!

The Ladies of The Mew:
Yattahh, nya!

Mike:
Although, I did promise them eggnog and platters of sushi aplenty if they came over to watch it with me again!

The Ladies of The Mew:
itadakimasu, nya!

Mike:
I’ll watch all three versions of it (the original 1979 theatrical version, the extended 1982 TV version, and the 2001 director’s cut), so they can each pick out which time to arrive, depending on their schedules that day. Ah, well next I shall top off the Trek topic and begin our

comic book reports, with my review
of Star Trek vs Transformers #2!

Mike
There have have been Star Trek comic book crossovers the other properties such as Doctor Who, Aliens, the X-Men, Green Lantern, Planet of the Apes and the Legion of Super-Heroes; and the Transformers have crossed or mashed up in the comics and toys with  G.I. Joe., Star Wars, Marvel and Macross, but thanks to IDW, the Autobots & Decepticons finally meet the Enterprise crew and the Klingons!

The best part is that this mini-series is just so perfectly illustrated in the style of the 1973 animated Star Trek series, and I’m really diggin’ it! So, it’s presumably set sometime in late 2269 or early 2270, during the 5th year of The Five Year Mission, as the Enterprise crew & the Autobots team up against the Klingon crew & the Decipticons on a Dilithium mining outpost near the border.

Issue #2 is priced $3.99 has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by 2 pages of comments and 6 pages of ads; and it’s available in the choice of 3 different covers. “Prime’s Directive Part Two” was written by John Barber & Mike Johnson, illustrated by Philip Murphy, lettered by Christa Miesner, colored by Leonardo Ito & Josh Burcham, edited by Chase Marotz & David Mariotte.

It stars Capt. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Scotty, Uhura, M’Ress, Arex, Commander Kuri, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Arcee, Windblade, Ratchet, Jazz, Megatron, Starscream, Airachnid, Soundwave and Thundercracker Fortress Maximus, Trypticon, the USS Enterprise NCC-1701, and a Klingon D-7 class battlecruiser!

The story resumes with a blast as Scotty & MCCoy watch Spock mind-meld with Optimus, while elsewhere M;Ress pounces upon Bumblebee, Kirk dodges an irate Jazz and Windblade catches Sulu until a misunderstanding is cleared up. Unfortunately, the Klingons and the Decepticons off to a better mutual start!

It’s not often you get such a sense of scale, as we see Megatron & Soundwave stand atop the D-7 to fire upon the Enterprise; and I rather geeked out at seeing my favorite Trek catgirl (M’Ress) meeting my favorite Transformer (Arcee)! I don’t want to spoil too much more of the plot, but I will say that part 2 ends with Jim Kirk grinning!

I think that this is the best Trek crossover comic ever! It is so much fun, and all of the character, mecha and scenic art is beautiful with the cel-shading as it faithfully captures the animated style, so I will give it an  “A” as in Arex! Ah, well that’s all for my reviews, but Tara-chan has a couple more comics from IDW to discuss, starting with her review of–

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #72!

Tara-chan:
Arigato, nya! I love the My Little Pony comic books published by IDW which are so beautiful, fun and – and faithful to the animated TV series, nya! I also like how the comics’ tales are not interrupted by the ads, which are placed after the tales, nya. It is hard to believe that the pony comics have bee going for over 6.5 years already, nya!

Issue #72 is purriced $3.99 and- and has the 20 page tale plus the 8 pages of the ads. The tale was written by Thom Zahler, illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, colored by heather Breckel, lettered by Tony Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow, and- and assistantly edited by Megan Brown, nya. Greg Goldstien is IDW’s publisher, nya!

The issue is available in the choise of the 3  different covers: cover A by Agnes, cover by by Sara Richard, and- and the retailer incentive cover by Sweeny boo, nya. It was the tough decision, but I picked cover a which depicts Applejack with the yummy hot pie, nya! This purrtains to the plot in which she and – and Apple-Bloom search for the secret pie ingredient, nya!

While they and granny Smith are cleaning out their farm house’s attic, Applejack and – and Apple-Bloom discover their mom’s recipe, but it is incomplete, so they go on the quest for the missing ingredient, nya. The quest is aided by Big McIntosh, Pinkie Pie, Mrs. Cake, Dairy Sun, Trade Craft and- and other folks, nya!

The tale is also peppurred with the flashback scenes of their mom Buttercup, dad Bright mac, and grandfather Gran Pear, nya! This was such the fun poignant tale, and – and I am purrticularly fond of the pony poses and- and expurressions drawn by Agnes, but nyow I have the pie craving in my tummy, nya! Nextly i woulsd like to discuss

My Little Pony: Nightmare Ponies #2, nya!

Tara-chan:
I was quite eagerly awaiting this purrticular pony tale, nya, which is written by Jeremy Whitley who also created the Princeless and – and Raven the Pirate Princess comics, and has written the Unstoppable Wasp, Vampirella, Sea of Thieves, Rainbow Brite, and – and other comics, nya! It was drawn by Tony Fleecs and- and colored by Heather Breckle, nya!

It was lettered by Christa Miesner, edited by Bobby and – and assistantly edited by Megan, nya! It is available in the choice of cover A by Tony, cover B by Brenda Hickey, and- and the retailers Incentive cover by Jennifer L. Meyer, nya. We have met Jeremy, Tony and – and Brenda at the conventions, nya! The tale stars Luna who teams up with Stygian to rescue Celestia!

In the purrior issue Celestia was caught by the evil Pony of Shadows, and – and corrupted by Discord’s cousin Eris who rules the other world’s Las Pegasus chaotic casino castle, nya. Thusly in issue #2, Luna and and Stygian have to recruit the sneaky help of Trixie, Sunburst and – and Capper, nya! Also appurring are Cadnce, Glitter Drops, Flim, Flam and – and the Yak tribe, nya!

The art is so beautifully drawn – and colored, with the four impurresive full – page pics, nya! It is the fun thrilling tale, but I am still worried about Celestia in the cliffhanger, so I am eagerly awaiting the next issue, nya!  I will give both of those pony comic books the grade of the “A’ as in Apple Buck, nya! That will conclude the pony report, so nyow here is onee-chan to tell us about

Princeless: Find Yourself #1, nya!

Yvonne:
Arigato, Tara-chan, nya! Created and written by Jeremy and published by Action Lab Comics, the Princeless series purrtains to the adventurous diverse ladies who refuse to be oppurressed by unfair gender and racial roles or stereotypes in the medieval era, nya! It introduced the 17 year old Captain Raven Xingtao who would later star in this wonderful spin-off series, nya!

There was the 8 page sneak peek of this issue in the Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess Year Two: Love and Revenge Halloweeen Comics Fest issue, nya! This uninterrupted 28 page tale  of “Parties Divided” was written by Jeremy, pencilled by Emily Martin, inked by Ainhoa Aramayo, colored and lettered by Brett Grunig, edited by Alicia Whitley and Nicole, nya!

It is rated “E” for everyone, and it is available in the choice of cover A by Unyinye Anakor and cover B by Emily, nya. Adrienne the runaway purrincess and her dragon friend Sparky are searching the desert for the hidden sphinx tower, until the moral dims and Sparky flies away after the arguments, leaving Adrienne alone to be attacked by the sandy monsters, nya!

Meanwhile, her brother purrince Devin, and Kira the werewolf chief’s daughter have been searching for his mom who may have been spirited away by the mysterious Black Knight. Along the woodland trail they met Tempest the elf girl and runaway human Prince Wilcome, and nyow the quartet watches the nearby village burned by marauders who also search for the knight, nya!

To worsen the situation is the overheard conspurracy by King Ashe’s enemy King Valmar who catches them and injures Tempest with the treacherous help from Wilcome, nya! It is the gorgeously illustrated tale with the four full – page pics to accentuate the thrilling drama, and after the tale is the fascinating four-page peek at the comic’s creative purrocess, nya!

We hope that Adrienne and Sparky and their other  friends will be reunited, we hope that things will purrk up for Tempest, that the romance will bloom for Kira and Devin and that he will find is mom, nya! I am so eagerly anticipating the next issues of both of the Princeless series, nya! Nextly I would like to discuss the latest series to be written by Jeremy

Rainbow Brite #1, nya!

Yvonne:
Given that this is written by Jeremy and based upon Rainbow Brite I was eager to see this comic book too, nya! This first issue was illustrated by Brittney Williams, colored by Valentina Pinto, lettered by Tavior Esposito, edited by Kevin Ketner and published by Dynamite, which has the good knack for the tales of heroines such as Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Vampirella, Sheena and Ms Fury, nya!

So it seems that Rainbow Brite will find the new good home there! Rated for readers of all ages, the issue includes the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 10 pages of the ads and the gallery of the various covers, nya. There are at least the 8 different covers, including the exclusive one done for the Ultimate Comics’ NC Comicon of which we have the autographed copy, nya!

The widdle girl named Willow takes the break from writing her fantasy fiction to larp with her best girl friend Wisp in the nearby woods, with their purrents’ purrmission, nya! They have already started to make their costumes such as Willows wizardly robe and Wisp’s warrior sword, but she hopes for the armor too, nya! When they crave the snacks, they move the larp from the woods to the kitchen, nya!

Back at her home that evening, Wisp meets the magickal spurrite from the Rainbow Land and things get more alarming, but I should not further spoil the plot of this wonderfully fun issue, nya! We do not know much about her purrents or the spurrite, but Wisp, Willow and her purrents are so instantly likable and the art is quite lovely, nya!  Nyow here is Ilyana to discuss —

The Unstoppable Wasp #2, nya!

Ilyana:
Hai! We were thrilled about the publication of this new 6 issue mini – series from Marvel Comics, because the purrior Wasp series was one of our favoritest  series ever! The tale stars Nadia Van Dyne the orphaned Hungarian genius daughter of Hank (Ant Man) & Maria Pym, who was adopted by her step mom Janet van Dyne and became the latest heroine known as The Wasp!

Edwin Jarvis the Avengers’ Butler has been helping Nadia to get settled into her new life Cresskills whilst she has fought the criminals and started the G.I.R.L. (Genius in Action Research Labs) group for the genius heroines who might impurrove the world! The diverse mutlicultural genius  team includes Taina the mechanical engineer, Priya the biologist, Ying the chemist and Shay the physicist!

This 2nd issue is purriced $3.99 and includes the 20 page tale plus the credit / recap page, the purreview page, the 2 intermew pages and the 4 pages of the ads. It was written by Jeremy,  illustrated by Gurihiru, lettered by Joe Caramagna and edited by Alanna Smith with the graphic design by Carlos Lao, and the choice of the cover by Stacey Lee and the variant cover by Luciano Vecchio!

Purreviously, Janet hired Taina’s sister Alexis as her purrotege, and Shay became romantically interested iin Ying, whilst the genius girls Amber and Monica ploted the crimes with the A.I.M (Advanced Idea Mechanics) group! This resulted in The Wasp and G.I.R.L.’s drones fighting against the A.I.M agents and Amber who was wearing her Seeker armor!

That brings us up to the 2nd great issue which begins with Nadia oversleeping after the busy day, but she has to get ready for G.I.R.L.’s big purresentation at the the convention center! She has such cute pajamas with the fuzzy wasp slippurrs! Meanwhile Ying is quite awake and sparring at the gym with Bobby Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird!

Nadia is quite the busy bee because before she can purrpare for the conference, she has to go on the mission  Durham with Ironheart and Viv Vision to stop the deadly bull golem! Durham is the great city just the couple of hours  from here on the mainland, but after the fight, Nadia winds up back in the bed!

Fortunately things purrk up for her that evening, when she and Janet wear the beautiful dresses , shoes and jewelry to the fancy French restaurant, but the fun and food are briefly served before they are interrupted by the giant Green blob attack which ruins their clothes, but they find the replacement couture of the gothy punk style to wear to the exciting wrestling match starring the tag- team of Letha and Poundcakes!

Other things transpire that night, but I should not further spoil the plot!  After the tale is Nadia’s customary intermew with the real scientist & engineer girls. This time she intermews Dr. Jane the materials engineer!  This issue has it all-  the great characters, fun plot, sparkling dialogue, magnificent art and the inspurrational intermew, so I will give it the “A” as in Ant Man! Nyow we will go from the wasp girls to the spider girls to the spiders as B.B. tells us about

Spider-Girls #2!

Bibi:
Arigato! One of the recent big cross – over story arcs amongst the various Spider-Man related titles is the Spider-Geddon tale, in which the Spidery – powered heroes of the multiverse have been purreyed upon by the evil supurr space vampires such as Bara and Brix who are known as The Inheritors, and have the taste for the life force of spiders, although they will dine upon other folks too.

Thusly, many heroes of the spidery purrsuasion from different worlds have teamed up to thwart those and this mini – series stars Spider-Man (Peter Parker) with Spinnerette (Mary Jane Watson – Parker), Arana (Anya Corozon), Spider – Woman (May “Mayday Parker” and Spiderling (Annie May Parker) who hope that the legendary Spider scrolls & totems will help against The Inheritors!

The 28 page issue is purriced $3.99 and has the 20 page tale plus the  credits / recap page, the Spider-Geddon checklist & 6 pages of the ads. It was written by Jody Hauser, pencilled & inked by Andres Genolet, colored by Triona Farrell & Jim Charalampidis, lettered by Joe Caramagna, and edited by Kathleen Wisenski with the purrduction design by Anthony Gambino & cover art by Yasmine Putri!

Issue #2 is the bittersweetly poignant  start as Spiderling’s purrents Spider-Man and Spinnerette who are off to join the big Spider-Geddon battle on Earth 616 and say farewell to Spiderling, Arana & Spider – Woman remain on Earth 18119 to research the scrolls and contact other spiderish folks, such as that world’s version of Harry Osborn, who has six arms due to the mewtation expurriments.

However, Norman is not the only such mewtated purrson there, because the OsCorp laboratory is full of other such spidery creatures, which are like the big buffet to draw Bara and Brix to there. It is not the good time for Norman to mewtate further or for Spiderling to become fatigued by her inter-dimensional psychic bond with the scrolls!

I was very pleased with this issue, which has the poignant emotional moments, the conversational scenes amongst the we-slinging women, the sympatheric version of Harry, and the creepy arrival of The villains! It is accentuated by the great art, colors and fonts with Spiderling’s internal monologuing and the two-page spurread of the Spiderverse! Nyow we will go from the spider girls to the panther girl of

Shuri #2!

Bibi:

We are big fans of Purrrincess Shuri of Wakanda, who has been the Black Panther (in the comics) when her older brother King T’challa was unable to for the while. We also liked the movie version of her as purrtrayed by Letitia Wright! The movie version differs the bit from the comics version, but author Nnedi Okorafo certainly succeeds at being rather faithful to both versions in this mini – series!

Purreviously in this mini – series,  King T’challa and Eden Fesi a.k.a Manifold went missing in outer space for after their space ship entered the space wormhole. They have been gone for 2 weeks. I am not sure when this occurrs  compurred to the Spider-Geddon. Shuri communed with her ancestors, chatted with her hacker friend Muti, invented nanotech gadgets, and displayed  mystical abilities.

She attended the council meeting with Ramonda the Queen Mother, Okoye of the elite Dora Milaje guard, and civilians such as Zawena, Mansa, Tiwa and Bube who purroposed that Shurire repurrise the Panther guise during T’challa’s absence. That brings us up to issue #2 whuch has the 20 page tale plus recap/ credits page, purreview page, the Wakanda map, and the 4 ads.

Shuri #1 is the 28 page issue rated T,  purriced $3.99, and has the  22 page tale plus the author’s comments, the Wakanda map and the 4 pages of the ads. It was written by NNedi Okorafor, illustrated by Leonardo Romero, colored by Jordie Bellaire, lettered by Joe Sabino, edited by Will Moss, and associately edited by Sarah Brunstad. with the logo by Adam Del Lee and cover art by Sam Spratt!

The cover art depicts Shuri in the Panther suit, but she does not wear it yet in the tale, although she does have another beautiful outfit when she declines the council’s purroposal and returns to the city of Birninzana for the reunion with her sister – in – law Ororor Munro a.k.a Storm who also misses T’challa! However, things become further awry when Ramonda goes missing  while at the market!

Storm accompanies Shuri to her garage full of neat vehicles and they drive to the market. Ororo thinks that Shuri and manifold would be the good couple! At the bustling market they meet Chief Ikoko who is the fabulous sight in her off-shoulder yellow dress!  After the yummy tea time the three ladies and the ancestors go to the giant Baobab tree where Shuri’s astral form goes into outer space!

I purrobably should not further spoil the taste of the plot, but I should mention that while she searches for T’Challa and manifold… well, I will just say that there is the brief appurrance by Rocket & Groot of the Guardians of the Galaxy!  This was a terrific issue and we are quite curious as to what Shuri will do next! Nyow here is Mie-sensei to tell us what some of the panther’s other friends are up to in–

West Coast Avengers #3 & 4!

Mielikki:
Fur shur! So like, this has been quite the amusing tale thus far since Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) formed the new team of heroes who are also the house mates in Santa Monica, California. The team consists of Clint Barton (the original Hawkeye), Gwen Poole (Gwen Pool) Kate & Johnny Watts (Fuse), Quentin Qure (Kid Omega) and America Chavez( America)!

It was totally awesome to see America again since her own series was sadly cancelled! They were soon joined by an odd chap named  B.R.O.D.O.K who is actually the villain M.O.D.O.K. in disguise, and who is responsible for transforming Tigra (Greer Grant Nelson into the enraged 200 ft. tall catgirl who along with other monsters has attacked Venice Beach!

So like, Kate an Clint snooped around the local A.I.M. offices to discover how M.O.D.O.K. became B.R.O.D.O.K and transformed Tigra! Meanwhile there seem to be some romances blossoming betwixt
Kate & Johnny and betwixt Gwen & Quentin! That brings us up to issue #3 which is priced $3.99, has the 28 pages (including the 6 ads), and the choice of 2 covers!

Its 20 page tale was written by Kelly Thompson, illustrated by Stefano Caselli, colored by Triona Farrell, lettered by Joe Carmagna, and edited by Alanna Smith with the graphic design by Carlos Lao, the main cover art by Nolan Woodward & Stefano, and the variant cover by Sujin Lao. Much carnage resumes when Tigra and other giant monsters attack Santa Monica!

This issue is like totally brimming with super combat action plenty, but it is not the great day for Kate who gets caught by Tigra, who is later returned to normal, but then Kate gets caught by B.R.O.D.O.K
and transformed into the giant hawk girl (not to be confuzzled with DC Comics’s Hawk Girl)! At least the team’s Golden Retriever dog Lucky seems to doing fine though!

So like, that brings us up to issue #4, which has mostly the same creative team, although this’un’s variant cover art is by Humberto Ramos & Edgar Delgado. Clint & America battle B.R.O.D.O.K & Hawk – Kate in  the spectacular full –  page pic! Kate and the other heroes battle the other monsters in the glorious two-page Spread! America meets Fuse’s sister Ramone and her cat!

This story arc seems to conclude with this issue, which has the ironic Dragon ending; it is peppered by the amusing intermew sequences that remind me the bit of Modern Family, and there is an appearance by Jimmy Kimmel, but several famous super villains seem displeased to see the new Wet Coast Avengers team on his late night talk show, fur shur!

So like, thusly far this series has been great whimsical fun with humor, romance and action aplenty, amidst the gorgeously rendered character, mecha, creature and scenic art with the richly vibrant colors and the perfect fonts for the dialogue and sound FX, fur shur! Now I will turn The Mew over to Nyo-sensei, who wishes to tell us about–

Die Kitty Die Heaven and Hell #1, fur shur!

Nyoka:
Published by Chapterhouse, Die Kitty Die is the whimsically ribald occult tale of Kitty Ravencroft the sexy celebrity witch who hcan turn into a cat! She has been targeted for the assassination by her own employers, who hope evilly that her demise will result in much publicity, increased merchandising, and more control for them over the purropurrty rights!

Kitty’s evil cousin Katty is in cahoots with the conspurracy because she hopes to replace Kitty in the spotlight! This frisky fun series is filled with sexy clothes, dark comedy, clever satirical homages and purrodies of Archie, Harvey, Marvel & DC comics, plus the cute pics of Kitty and her macabre friends in the lovely fashions!

In the purrior story arc of “Hollywood or Bust”, Kitty was eventually murdered, and in this arc of “Heaven and Hell” her afterlife fate is to be determined! Issue #1 is rated T for the teen readers and its 32 pages are compurrised of the 20 page tale plus the 2 gallery pages, the 6 page purreview of the 5Hundred series, and the 4 pages of the ads.

The story and art are by Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent;  it was inked by Rich Koslowski, colored by Glenn Whitmore, lettered by Janice Chiang, and edited by Tony White, with additional art by Gisele Lagace and J.  Bone.We have met Dan at some cons, and our web master Jamie did a few guest strips several years ago for Giselle’s web comic Cool Cat Studio!

The tale begins with the flashback to Kitty’s cross – purrmotional days with Big Debra the snack cake entrepurreneur, with the morbid results. Ironically, this segues to Kitty’s current posthumous dilemma before the jury of angels & demons, who review Kitty’s adventures to date. Added bad mews is that Big Debra is the purrosecuter!

At least Kitty’s aunt Edna is the defense attorney, and the judge looks remarkably like Bea Arthur! Will Kitty receive the fair trial, and will her murderers receive justice? I am looking forward to issue #2 to find out! Including the flashbacks & cover art Kitty wears 17 different outfits… or 22, if you include the ones in the ads, such as the ad for–

Die Kitty Die presents Kitty’s Cat House of Horrors!

Nyoka:
This 32 page Halloween issue is the anthology of sexy spooky dark comedy tales! The story and art are by Fernando and Dan; it was inked by Rich, colored by Glenn, lettered by Janice, and edited by Tony, with additional art by Gisele, J.  Bone, Bill Golliher, and our friend Andrew Pepoy, who was a December 2008 guest of The Mew! Purrhaps y’all have seen his art in our mewseum?

In the issue’s 5 page framing sequence, Kitty invites three widdle  trick ‘r’ treaters into her house to hear the tales, starting with the 5 page tale of “Cosplay-Mate of the Year” in which her frenemy Rudy purrloins the potion in hopes that it will purrvide him with the winning costume at the Halloween party, but the unintended consequence is not what he wants!

After that is the 5 page tale of “The Boy Story”, in which Kitty is the victim of the voyeurism when she decides to take the bath! That is followed by the 5 page tale of “A Halloween to Dismember” starring her Carney friends, in which the feral boy is blamed for the missing body parts. The final tale “All Dolled Up” is the purrody to the famous Trilogy of Terror segment abut the killer doll!

The issue is topped off by the two-page spurread which depicts the dozen costumed trick ‘r’ treaters of all ages! Including the cover art, Kitty wears 13 alluring outfits…  or 17, if you include the ones in the ads! One of her outfits is the catgirl costume, mew la la! That is all for my reviews, and nyow here is Becca to begin our

manga and other book reviews, with
her review of Konohana Kitan vol.2!

Becca:
Hai!  We are rather fond of Sakuya Amano’s manga about the fox spirit girl attendants and their guests of all species at the Kononhanatei inn, a ryokan with hot spurrings between the worlds! It is the very charming, beautiful, modern slice – of – life  fantasy tale which is rated for readers of ages 16+, purrhaps due to the language, fan service & non-sexual nudity.

Originally published in Japan 2015 by Gentosha Comics, the English version was published here in the USA by Tokyo Pop, Purriced at $12.99, volume two’s 172 Black & White  pages include chapters 7-12  plus the 15 pages of the ads all sammiched betwixt the color covers. The art is quite beautiful with the very lovely, intricate garments and scenery!

It was translated by Katie McLendon, edited by Lena Atanassva, copy – edited by Massiel Gutirrez and in- chiefly edited by publisher Stu Levy; with the quality control by Risa Otsuka, graphic design by the technical & digital media assistant Phillip Hong, retouching & lettering by Vibrraant Publishing Studio; and the marketing associate is Kate Winters.

The main character Yuzo is one of the younger new employees who is so very cordial, sincere, and enthused. Other recurring characters include attendants Natsume, Sakura, Shino, Ren, Satsuki and her older sister Hiiragi the miko (shrine maiden). There are amewsing & poignant situations betwixt them, the other town folk, and the guests!

The encounters range from the natural and the supurrnatural, often with the poignat, amewsing and / or metaphysical qualities. In chapter 7, Yuzu befriends the woman who is intricately weaving something magnificent for summertime; in chapter 8 the attendants give the makeover to the bittersweetly sentient magickal doll;  and in chapter 9 the bubble goddess Awaranami visits the inn!

In chapter 10, on the nearby beach Yuzo meets a purrculiar girl who claims to be a mermaid; in chapter 11, Hiiragi’s visit has the very beautiful emotional results, and in chapter 12, Satsuki eats the magickal treat that shrinks her to the very tiny size with the rather adorable poignant results!

I will give the Konohana Kitan the high purraise for its great characters, captivating tales and beautiful art, and I will heartily recommend it to the kemonomimi fans! Nextly I would like to discuss
Today’s Cerberus vol. 10!

Becca:
This romantic occult comedy manga by Ato Sakurai stars Kuro, Shirogane, and Roze who are the three female human perrsonas of Cerberus the three-headed Hades dog of Greek mythology, and the male human high school student Chiaki who they have romantic feelings for! This results in the “harem” trope, which is especially awkward for his miko friend Hinata who also pines for him!

Other recurring characters include Chiaki’s sister Mikado, Hako the nekomata catgirl, her master Idora, their classmate Haru, Minnie the self-purroclaimed fiance of Chiaki, Tama the nine tailed fox girl, Rir Rir the Norse wolf girl and her sisters Hel and Jormung who have a maid cafe and a dog named Garm, plus Hades, Persephone, various neighborhood cats and various visiting spirits!

Originally published by Square Enix in Japan, it is published in North America  by Yen. Between the color covers are 194 pages of B&W manga chapters 45-49, gag strip chapters 45-48, and 2 color pages.  It was translated by Caleb Cook, lettered by Bianca Pistillo, and Rated T for teen readers due to the language, violence & nudity.

Mi-Kin & Hi-Kun (the split purrsonas of Cerberus’s kid brother Orthros) have been visiting, whilst Shirogane struggles with her feelings for Chiaki, who is struggling with his own lack of empathy, but soon several of the gang wind up struggling in the web spun by the Arachne spirit; and there is also the close call with the poisonous substance at the maid cafe!

However, all is not tragic during the winter months, as Roze overcomes her timid nature whilst the gang enjoys the ice skating, food shopping and yummy omelets! The bonus gag strips are quite amewsing and sexy as the girls wear the lingerie & ears of the bear, sheep, bunny, cat and bird motif- mew la la!

The art is quite lovely and intricate, and the recurring characters tend to be quite likable, and although they are rivals for the affections, everyone seems quite caring and purrotective towards each other, like an extended magickal family! It was a lot of charming fun, and I look forward to the next volume!  Nyow here is our island’s Fire Chief Ellie to tell us about the

Dragon Half Omnibus Collection vol. 1!

Ellie:
Hai! I saw the Dragon Half anime OVA years ago and loved it and I have wanted to read the original manga by Ryusuke Mita’s for the long time, so I was very happy that it was published here in English by Seven Seas this year! It was originally published in Japan in 1998 by Kadokawa, so this is the 20th anniversary!

It is the comedic Dungeons & Dragons-ish adventures of Mink the sexy, sassy cute and tough half human / half dragon girl (her mom is the dragon and her dad is the human), friends Lufa, Pia & Mappy who search for Pido Potion which might transform her into the full human because she is in love with Dick Saucer the idol knight!

Pink is the petite dragon girl with the Red eyes, fair skin, lush waist-length Red hair, the cute Yellow horns, the slender Red tail , the inny belly button and the peppy disposition. You might think that she would be quite the catch, but Dick Saucer only views her as the enemy dragon to slay, which is why she craves the potion!

However, Lady Vina the half human / half slime girl and her evil father King Siva want to slay Pink, and have sent the numerous mercenaries and monsters  after her. This is unfortunate for the various humans, ogres, slimes, golems, demons, spiders, lamias and other enemies who Pink typically defeats- and sometimes eats!

It is rated “T” for the teen readers, perhaps due to the nudity, language and the often wacky combat violence. This 344 page omnibus edition is priced $19.99 in the USA and  $22.99 in Canada. It collects volumes 1 & 2 which consist of chapters 1 -20 plus the art gallery and the author’s comments with the 24 color pages! Also among the bonuses is the Dragon Half Compatibility Test!

It was translated by Andrew Cunningham, adapted by David Lumsdom, lettered by Laura Heo, edited by Adam Arnold, assistantly edited by Jenn Grunigan, proof read by Shanti Whitesides & Andrew Richard, with the cover design by Nicky Lim, production management by Lissa Pattillo & assistance by CK Russell. It was the great read, and I eagerly await the 2nd omnibus! Nextly I would like to praise

Hakumei & Mikocho: Tiny Little Life in the Woods vol. 1!

Ellie:
I just recently found this utterly beautiful and charming fantasy manga by Takuto Kashiki which treats us to the slice – of – life tales of house mates Hakumei & Mikochi who are the the tiny wee folk who are small enough to ride on their ant friends as if the ants were ponies! They live in the lovely twi story house in the tree in the lush forest!

They have the jobs too- Hakumei (with the Brown hair) repairs things, and Mikochi (with the Black hair) cooks & sews; and they are part of the community full of animal friends and other tiny folks! Each chapter is the look at their day to day lives, with the activities such as the dining, shopping, working, fishing, entertaining and exploring!

Originally published in Japan in 2013 by Kadokawa, it is published here in English by Yen Press and rated “T” for the teenaged  readers. Volume 1 is  priced at $19.99 in the USA & $22.99 in Canada. It’s 208 B&W pages include chapters 1- 8 plus the afterward comic strip, translation notes, and 8 pages of travelogue-ish information!

It was translated by Taylor Encel and lettered by Abigail Blackman. In chapter one, after the meal and moving the heavy dresser, the girls watch for the legendary bird known as the Sunset Kite. In chapter 2 they are asked to sing at the local Makinata Harvest Festival. In chapter 3 they visit a biologist’s turtle shell laboratory.

In chapter 4 they camp out and enjoy the yummy supper under the starts while their house is being repaired. In chapter 5 we follow Hakumei at work, and in chapter 6 they visit the grand Chantey Market!  In chapter 7 we follow Mikochi at work, and then in chapter 8 they spend the snowy day playing indoor games with friends!

It is such the heart – warming tale done with the extensive world- building; it is so gorgeously rendered with the astoundingly intricate detail, and I am quite eager to read the further volumes of this series! That will conclude my reviews, and so now here is Trini-chan to tell us about–

Battle Angel Alita: Holy Night and other Short Stories!

Trini-chan:
Known as Gunnmm in Japan, Yukito Kishiro’s epic post-apocalyptic cyberpunk manga Battle Angel Alita began in 1990 and pertains to the titular amnesiac cyborg Alita (or Gally, in Japan) who was found in the dystopian future scrapyard and rebuilt by cyber doctor Ido. Retaining her Panzer Kunst style of martial arts prowess, Alita soon becomes a bounty hunter, warrior and athlete who regains more memories of her prior life on Mars amidst her friendships and fights.

The manga spawned several sequel series and the spin-off, an animated OVA, and it is soon to be the live-action major motion picture that we are eagerly awaiting! Recently Kodansha Comics re-issued the initial original manga series in the form of the five handsome hardcover books, plus this anthology book that collects four short stories that were never before published in English, which also includes the bonus material including the author’s new comments!

Purriced at $29.99 in the USA & $$39.99 in Canada, this 10.25″ x 7.25″ x .75″ hardcover has the 277 pages including the 4 color pages! Rated “OT for the older teen readers aged 16+ the manga was translated by Stephen Paul, lettered by Evan Hayden, and edited by Ajani Oloye, with the cover design by Phil Balsman. Alita is on the back cover and Koyomi is on the front! Nyow I will give the tatse of the four short story plots! The artwork is magnificent with the intricate detail!

“Holy Night” was written in 1997 and is set 6 years before Alita’s debut. It is the bittersweet 101 page tale of how Ido became the cyber doctor and his relationship with the girl named Carol. You might want the box of tissues nearby for the sad, tragic moments.  “Sonic Finger” was written in 1997 and is set 2 years after Alita’s debut. It is the 67 pagetale of  Alita and the other bounty hunters searches and duels with the deadly assassin, with the violent combat scenes.

“Hometown” was written in 1997 and is set 9 years after Alita debuted. It is the 25 page tale pertaining to Alita’s search for the robot Deckman amidst the desert and canyons. lastly is “Barjack Rhapsody” which was written in 2007 and is set 14 years after Alita’s debut. It is the 61 page tale of aspiring 14 year old photojournalist Koyomi who searches for the big scoop and wishes for the return of the giant cyborg master Den who once lead the Barjack rebellion.

The book also includes the revised timeline of the events from 1066 AD to 2547AD. Not that in the manga the years have the different calendar, the ES calendar of which year 1 is 1957 AD with the launch of Sputnik. To top off the book  are the 12 pages of Yukito Kishiro’s recent comments about those four tales, the series overall, and other aspects of his life and career! I will give this awesome book the grade of the “A” as in Alita! Nextly I would like to discuss–

Nevertheless, Women of the Galaxy is such the wonderfully beautiful, entertaining and informative book that I will highly recommend to the fans of Star Wars, inspirational ladies and fantasy art! That is all for the book reports, and now here is Lizzy to begin our

collectibles & toy talk, with her review of
the Marvel Legends Magik action figure!

Elizabeth:
Hai! We like to collect the dolls, statues and figures of the inspurrational heroines, so we were purrticularly delighted to purrchase Hasbro’s Marvel Legends action figure of IIlyana Nikolievna Rasputin, a.k.a. Magik! She is the younger sister of Peter Rasputin a.k.a. Colossus, who both debuted along with Storm, Nightcrawler and Thunderbird in Giant Size X-Men #1 in 1975!
As the young Russian girl, Illyana was spirited away to the dimension of Limbo by the evil Belasco where she became the teenage sorceress in addition to her mewtant powers, but she escaped back to the Earth and became the student at the Xavier School in upstate NY andis  the member of the New Mutants team!  For the while she had the other alias as the Darkchylde.
In the comics, she has the fair skin, Blond hair & Blue eyes at  5′ 5″ tall & 120 lbs. She can telepurrt, astrally purroject, cast the sorcerous spells, summon the demon helpurrs and conjure the weapons!
She is quite purrky, tough and fierce; and her best friends are Kitty Pryde and Lockheed. At 5.75″ tall (or 6 ” including her horns), this figure is appurroximately 1/11th scale.
She is beautifully designed, sculpted & painted, from the strands of her hip –  length hair, her serious expurression & her lithe bare tummy to the intricate seams, folds, buckles, grommets, straps & spikes & of her tight Black outfit!  She is well – accessorized too, with the two swords, 3 Blue energy bolts, the red version of Lockheed, the interchangeable hand & Ghost Rider head!
She is very posable too, with the well-cocealed joints in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees, clves & ankles She is balanced well enough to not require the doll stand or display base, but you might want one for the more dynamic pose. I am very pleased with the figure, which I have posed next to Kitty & Storm on the shelf! Nextly I would like to purraise the

Mythic Legions’ Jjuno the Crusher
& Freyia of Deadhall action figures!

Originally four toy sculptors who worked for other toy companies they later started their own Four Horsement Studios to make their own original and licensed purroducts, nya! Currently the team is compurrised of Eric Treadway, Jim Preziosi and Eric “Cornboy” Mause! The Mythic Legion is their original series of figures which is over 150 characters including this recent wave!

The tale of the Mythic Legion is that once upon the time there were the four legendery beasts Leodysseus, Bassylia, Xylonia and Eathyron who defended the realm  of Mythoss from the evil threats, and many years later there are heroic armies of various humanoid species who continue the good fight! These figures are about 6.5″ tall, excluding their hair, hoods and helmets.

Each is sold sepurrately, nicely packaged with the accessories in the clear plastic clamshell boxes with easily removable, beautiful card art by Nathan Baertsch, with the logo design by Neobauhaus Studios. I should also mention that additional painting, molding, casting, fabrication & site design was done by Sherri Lynn Cook, Bill Mancuso, Michael Mayse, and Ed Waysel III!

Last month I purraised the figures of Gwendolyn Hevensbrand,  Herra Sepenshire and Azza Spiritbender, so nyow I will purraise the figures of Jjuno the Crusher and Freyia of Deadhall! Jjuno is the tough fierce beautiful warrior woman who was orphaned when her purrents were killed in the battle. She had the tragic life full of hate and anger until she joined the heroic Legion of Arethyr!

She has the fiery red hair and the sexy leather & plate bikini armor with the boots, paldrons, gauntlets and greaves. She is very intricate from the tattoos & ornaments on the left side of her head tpo the straps, buckles & jewels of her attire! She is accessorized with the axe, the long sword, and the huge ornate war hammer for crushing her enemies!

Freyia is the gorgeous, mighty, feared and revered commander of the army who has the resurrection abilities. She has the long flaxen hair and the meticulous nordic style in her great winged helmet and the strapless leather & plate armor with the Red cape, gray fur mantle, the long sword, round shield, and the 9″ spear

They are elaborately and supurrbly designed, painted, sculpted and packaged, and the card easily slides out of the box. The figures are very posable with the articulation in the neck, abs, waist, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles; and I recommend getting a doll stand (which is not included) for their display. That is all of the toy talk, and nyow here are Petra and Bun to purrsent the
