Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!

Becca:
Hai! In this portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous catgirls and nekomimi of myths and popular culture from across the world & decades, here broadly – defined to include anthropurrmorphic feline females and ailuranthropic shape – shifters, to those who might not actually have kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or the fashion style to be considered as the “honorary catgirls”!

This month the spotlight shines upon not just the honorary catgirls, but also the kemonomimi of other species, such has Heather DeLoach who purrtrayed the iconic mitsubachi musume (bee girl) cosplayer in the mewsic video for Blind Melon’s 1993 song No Rain! Gosh, it is hard to believe that was the 26 years ago!

Speaking of the song & dance, we wish to purraise the catgirl cosplayer, gamer, fire twirler & mewsic DJ D*Jadeabella! Hailing from Adelaide, she is the supurr cool nekomimi DJ at Australia’s Neko Nation chain of clubs that are known for the anime ambience which is frequented by catgirls with the taste for sushi!

You know, this year is the 20th anniversary of Missy Elliot’s 1999 album Da Real World! Last month she received MTV’s Video Vangard honors! In the mewsic video for that album’s song “All n My Grill”, She and her fellow songstress Nicole WRay wore the allurring leopurrd purrint outfits, mew la la!

Ink Master is the reality show on the Paramount Network in which the many brilliant tattoo artists compete for the top purrize!  Season 12 began in June, with the womens team vs the mens team. One of the women is Holli Marie from Connecticut who was not only an amazingly talented artist, but also quite stunning in her various attire of the feline motif!

Elizabeth:
You know, this year is the 80th anniversary of when Shirley Temple was depicted as the sphinx with the lioness body, in Salvador Dali’s 1939 gouache, pastel & collage work of “Shirley Temple, the Youngest Sacred Monster of Contemporary Cinema”!

We wish to congratulate Sasha Jacobs who won the LinkedIn / Disney Dream Expurrience video contest! She wore the cat ears and feline make-up to cosplay as the various Lion King characters! She appurred in the 8:30 am segment of the June 27th epurrsode of ABC’s Good Morning America TV show!

Speaking of the Lion King ladies, we could not help but notice and smile at the McDonald’s TV commercial for their Lion King Happy Meal, in which the family’s daughter growls playfully during the delicious dinner!

Two kemonomimi cosplayers briefly appear in season 2 of the Netflix TV series Stranger Things. In eppurrsode 2, the bunny girl is briefly seen during the teenagers’ 1984 Halloween party, and in epurrsode 3, Dustin Henderson’s cat – owner mom Claudia (portrayed by Catherine Curtain) wears the cat ears!

Not only is actress Margaret Qualley quite wildly wonderful as Pussycat in the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but there are the numerous purretty Playboy Bunny waitresses with the lovely costume usagimimi ears & tails in the party scene at the Playboy Mansion!

We could not help but notice the purretty leopurrd purrint top that Kristen Stewart wears whilst purrtraying Sabrina Wilson in the purreview trailer for Elizabeth Banks’s cinematic reboot of Charlie’s Angels which purremiers in November; and in the recent Old Navy commercials for their kids & baby clothes sale, the school girl is purrpared fashionably with the leopard purring shirt tied around her waist!

Mielikki:
Speaking of the clothing commercials, there is Amazon’s recent spot for Prime Wardrobe, in which the lovely redhead shopper sitting on the bench fantasizes glamorously about wearing the pretty red Nicole Miller dress. Amidst the poses, she briefly paws & meows silently at the camera!

So like, the fierce feline guises and motifs have been fashionable amongst the totally beautiful, brave, agile and powerful professional wrestlers and models too, such as Ashley Wildcat, Lucy Purr, Kathy Owens and Sumikoe!

We were pleased to see the commercials for the pending CBS TV series All Rise, which stars Simone Missick as Judge Lola Carmichael! We liked Simone as Detective Misty Knight in the Marvel Netflix shows! Although the judge does not appear to be catgirl nor is dressed the part, she is noted for having the “sphinx-like inscrutability”, which is the perfect for the honorary catgirl!

There is an anthropomorphic cat family in the TV commercials for Arm & Hammer pet Seal Clump & Seal pet litter and Cloud Control products; and in the Big Bad Cough commercial for the Whooping Cough treatments, the anthropomorphic werewolf grandmother cares for her widdle infant grandchild!

Lastly but not leastly, we could not help but notice Play Zone’s Animal Cuties baby dolls at Big Lots! Those cuties include the dolls wearing the kitty, Unicorn and owl hoodies! Kawaii! That is all for this month’s Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight, but it will shine again next month, fur shur!

video, collectibles & toy talk, with her review
of the Avengers: Endgame Blu-Ray set!

Jeannie:
Arigato. We are big fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for our review of the movie itself, please see our May 2019 Mew. Avengers: Endgame was released on DVD and on Blu-Ray last month, and I am reviewing the latter edition. In this 2 disk set, the PG-13 rated, 181 minute movie is purrsented in the 2.39:1 widescreen of the 1080p resolution.

Disk one’s audio choices of English 7.1 DTS-HD MA, english 2.0 descriptive audio, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. There is also the optional audio commentary track by directors Anthony & Joe Russo, writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. There are optional subtitles for each audio track.

With optional English, French, Spanish Portugues, Chinese (Mandarin) and Chinese (Cantonese) subtitles, disk 2 includes the gag reel (1 min. 58 sec.) six deleted scenes (totally 4 min. 51 sec.), and seven featurettes (totalling 46 min.).

With behind the scernes footage & comments by members of the cast & crew, the featurettes are “Remembering Stan Lee”, “Setting the Tone” Casting Robert Downey Jr.”, “A Man Out of Time: Captain America”, “Black Widow: Whatever it Takes”, “Bro Thor”, “The Women of MCU”, and “The Russo Brothers: Journey to endgame”

The deleted scenes are “Goji Berries”, “Bombs on Board”, “Suckiest Army in the Galaxy”, “You Used to Frickin’ Live Here”, “Tony and Howard”, and “Avengers Take a Knee”. The 2 disks and the digital download instruction sheet are packaged within the plastic case inside the outer cardboard sleeve.

I wish that the documentariy featurettes were more extensive; and that there were more special features, such as image galleries, script PDF, isolated mewsic track, the film’s teasers / trailers / spots and a booklet, but the commentary track is excellent, and we will certainly view this awesome movie many more times. Nyow here is Ilyana-sensei to tell us about

Mattel’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Catra posable doll.

Ilyana:
Oh just call me Ilyana! I was quite delighted by Dreamworks’ fun and purretty reboot of the She-Ra series which is shown upon the Netflix, so I was pleased to see Mattel’s delightful new dolls of the characters, such as She-Ra, Adora, Bow, Glimmer, Swiftwind, and Catra!

Voiced by AJ Michalka, Catra is the agile, cunning Orange catgirl who was Adora’s friend, but felt betrayed when Adora joined the rebellion against the enemy hoarde, so nyow they are enemies. The dolls are sold sepurrately, and are intended for the folks aged 6+ years.

Balanced well- enough to stand upon her own two bare feet without needing a doll stand (which is not included),  10” tall plastic doll of Catra has the butt – length Brown fiber hair, the removeable cloth sleeveless stirrup tights, the plastic tiara and belt!

This catgirl is splendidly designed, sculpted and painted, with the mischievously peppy smirking expurression, the stripes upon her arms, the Green right eye, the Yellow left eye, the curved Brown 6” tail, and the 8” staff which easily fits into her right hand!

She is very posable too, with the articulation in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, tail, hips, knees, and turning lower legs. Most of the joints are inobious, and you  know, if her subtle elbow joints were not so appurrent, the doll could pass for the statue!

I am very pleased with this doll, and nyow I need to decide whether to display her beside my other dolls of the same scale, or with the purrior smaller action figures of Catra. Nyow here is Nya-sensei to tell us about

Gentle Giant’s Star Wars Ahsoka Tano collectible mini-bust!

Nyanko:
Hai! We are huge fans of the inspurrational heroines of Star Wars such as Ahsoka Tano, the rebel agent, former jedi and padawan of Anakin Skywalker! First appurring in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, she has been voiced by Ashley Ecsktein in the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series!

Thusly we were eager to purrchase this stunningly beautiful 1:6 scale mini – bust statue of her, which was made by Gentle Giant, limited to 750 pieces, and sold via Diamond Select! Depicting in her 30’s as she appurred in Rebels, this sculpture magnificently conveys her spirit and likeness!

Packaged within the purrotective foam inside the 4.75” x 7” x 9.5” box, which also includes the 2.5” x 3.5” numbered card, the mini – bust is about 7” tall from her hips to top of of her Togrutan montrals. Including the attachable translucent white beams of her two light sabers, it is about 7.5” tall overall!

The design, sculpt and paint are quite meticulous, from the Blue stripes upon the montrals, her soulful Blue eyes and the White markings upon her face, to all the snaps, buttons, hooks, creases and folds of her sleeveless garment, so I will give this beautiful bust the “A’ as in Ahsoka!

We have displayed her in the purrime spot upon the shelf beside Gentle Giant’s 2008 mini – bust statue of her Jedi friend Aayla Secura, who was purrtrayed by Amy Allen in the movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith! Nyow here is Mike to tell us about

Hallmark’s Star Trek – The Motion Picture U.S.S. Enterprise ornament!

Mike:
Many of our audience members know that it is easy for me to get long-winded about my all – time favorite movie Star Trek – The Motion Picture, which turns 40 on December 7th, but I’ve promised to keep brief my review of this splendid ornament! This is the refitted starship U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 (circa early 2270’s)  which is my favorite incarnation of the Enterprise.

I think she was the most beautifully designed, painted & photographed in that movie! Based upon concepts by Matt Jeffries, Mike Minor & Joe Jennings for the abandoned Star Trek Phase II series in the mid 1970’s, the 1000 ft. long, refitted Enterprise for Star Trek – The Motion Picture was primarily re-designed by Andrew Probert, with Richard Taylor, Douglas Trumbull & Howard Michaelson.

There have been many models, miniatures and toy replicas of her; and at 6.25” long, this Hallmark Keepsake plastic ornament is about 1/1920th scale, and about the same size as Mattel’s 2009 Hot Wheels replica. Both lack the hull’s intricate “aztec” pattern and pearlescent paint finish, but I think this’un has finer sculpt & paint detailing, although the paint / decals are not quite as intricate as, say the similar diecast model made by Eaglemoss.

Whereas the Hot Wheels and Eaglemoss models included display stands, the ornament doesn’t have one, as it’s intended to hang on a Christmas tree, via the small eyelet attached to the saucer section’s impulse deflection crystal. I wanted to display it on a shelf, so I’ve used a Neca dynamic action figure stand, to support the ornament between the hulls’ connecting dorsal and the warp nacelle pylons!

Not only is this a very sharp looking ornament, but the warp nacelles’ inboard power stage flux chillers internally illuminate a pretty Blue, as powered by three small LR41 batteries that are included! To insert those, a small philips head screwdriver (not included) will be needed to open the battery hatch on the bottom of the secondary hull. So I think it’s a pretty cool ornament! That’s all for our collectibles & toy talk portion of The Mew, so now here’s Tara-chan to begin

our comic book & manga mewsings, with her
review of My Little Pony: Feats of Friendship #1

Tara-chan:
Founded by Twilight Sparkle, The Friendship School for the diverse students of all species first appurred in the 8th season of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated TV series, nya! Six of those students are the mane characters of this comic book from IDW, nya! They are Yona the Yak, Smolder the dragon, Gallus the griffon, Ocellus the Changeling, and – and Silverstream the hippogriff, earth ponies Swift Foot and – and Sandbar, nya! Twilight Sparkle has the brief appurrance in this 1st issue too, nya!

Purriced at $3.99, its 28 pages are compurrised of the uninterrupted 20 page tale which is followed by the 4 pages of the ads and – and the 4 page purreview of the Tangle and – and Whisper series which is the spinoff of Sonic the hedgehog, nya! The pony tale was written by Ian Flynn, illustrated by Tony Fleecs with the flats by Lauren Perry, lettering by Christa Miesner, editing by Megan Brown, group editing by Bobby Curnow, and the choice of cover A by Tony, cover B by JustaSuta and- and the retailer incentive cover by Kate O’Neil, nya!

Most of the students eagerly purrpare for the first Feats of Friendship compurrtition, but Swift Foot is the trouble maker with the secret agenda, nya! The art is quite beautiful from the poses, expurressions, details and – and purrspectives to the color, shading, FX and – and depth, so I will give this issue the A as in applebuck, nya! Nyow here is onee-chan to discuss

Future Foundation #1, nya!

Yvonne:
Arigato, nya! Since my favoritest recent Marvel Comic The Unstoppable Wasp was cancelled, I have been eagerly anticipating this new series by it’s author Jeremy Whitely, which stars another diverse group of the smart young supurr heroes, nya! Jeremy also created / writes Princeless, Raven the Pirate Princess, and has written many other comics such as my Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Vampirella Sea of Thieves, Thor vs Hulk, and the numerous other Marvel Comics, nya!

We have met Jeremy at the comic book conventions and at the Free Comic Book Day festivities, nya! Purriced at $3.99 and rated for the teen readers, Future Foundation #1 has the 28 pages compurrised of the 20 page tale plus the credits page, roll call page, the author’s greeting, the Stan lee Soapbox, the purreview page and the 3 pages of the ads, nya.

The tale was pencilled by Will Robson, inked by Daniele Orlandini & Will, colored by Greg Menzie, lettered by Joe Caramagna and edited by Sarah Brunstad with the purrduction by Nick Russell, nya. The mane cover art is by Carlos Pacheko; and there are other variant covers by John Tyler Christopher; Nick Bradshaw & Rochelle Rosenberg; Rafael Fonteriz & Matt Yackey; Takeshi Miyazawa & Ian Herring, nya!

The purremise of this series is that Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four founded the new team of the smartest youngsters in the Multiverse, who are nyow on their first mission which is to locate the missing Molecule Man, nya! The future foundation team is compurrised of siblings Julie & Alex Power, Moloids Tong, Torg & Koor, Vil & Wu of The Uhari, Dragon Man, Bently 23 the clone of The Wizard, Xavier Institute alumni Artie & Leech, and Onome the Wakandan engineer, nya!

As purrt of the Molecule Man mission, they have teamed up with Yondu of the Guardians of the Galaxy to rescue someone from the intergalactic purrision, but there are surpurrises which will make it the trickier mission, nya! Some of the characters I am quite familiar with, such as Artie & Leech of the X-Men comics, Julie & Alex of the Power pack comics, and Yondu, nya. Julie was also in the Avengers Academy series which I was purrticularly fond of, nya!

The plot is amewsing, thrilling & fun with the peppy dialogue, and the character, scenic & FX art is quite lovely with two full – page pics and the two – page spurread, nya! I purrticularly like the rainbow effect when Julie flies at light speed, nya!  So I will give this 1st issue the A as in Artie and my anticipation for what happens next! I hope that they will team up with other young geniuses in the future, such as Ironheart, The Wasp, and the G.I.R.L. team, nya! That is all for the reviews, and nyow here are Petra and Bunni to purrsent the

new additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art, nya!

Petra:
For those here for the first time, Galleries 1-8 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images by other folks totally with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the mewseum, nya!

The images include illustrations, photos and mixed medias, nya! Some of the images in the mewseum are sexy, and some of them might depict artistic nudity, but most are very tame, and none of them are the hentai / porn, nya.

On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” – sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya!

we delighted to display Mike’s pencil, Micron pens and Photoshop CC fan art of “Kittrina, Catra & Clawdeen”, who are fierce feline female characters of The Masters of the Universe and She- Ra animated series! Catra is the villainess were-cat member of the evil Hoard, Clawdeen is her Pink lion, and Kittrina is one of the cat folk of Eternia, nya!

Then we have Mike’s photos of the beautiful modernist Elion-Hitchings Building, which was designed by architect Paul Rudolph and is named after the Nobel Purrize winning scientists George Hitchings and Gertrude Elion, nya! This building in the Research Triangle Park has gone through the different ownerships and modifications, but originally it was built between 1969 – 1972 for the Burroughs Wellcome company, nya.It appurred in the 1983 movie Brainstorm, nya! In 1985, Mike was purrmitted to take photos of it, which we are displaying to commeowmerate the 50th anniversary of the construction, nya!

We are purroud to purrsent four new illustrations by our web master Jamie http://jamiecotc.com! Firstly of those is “Supergirl 1970”, which is Jamie’s fan art of Supergirl in costume of the 1970’s vintage, nya! Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El alias Supergirl first appurred in Action comics #252 in 1959, so it is her 60th anniversary in the comics, nya! This image was done with Painter, Photoshop & Clip Studio Paint, , nya!

Nextly is Jamie’s fan art of DC Comics “Death”, nya! Created by author Neil Gaiman and artist Mike Dringenberg, her first appurrance was in The Sandman vol. 2, #8 in 1989, so it is her 30th anniversary in the comics, nya! Jamie used Painter & Clip Studio Paint for this pic, nya!

Bunni:
Then we have two new images of Chelsea Urania Kate Chattan, the heroic witchy were-panther star of Jamie’s urban fantasy web comic Clan of the Cats http://clanofthecats.com, which recently celebrated is 20th anniversary!  Chelsea, her family and friends were guests of the August 2007, January 2009 & November 2009

Mews! Done with Painter, “Chlelsea Red” is the monochromatic image of Chelsea wearing the bra and yoga pants! Then in the new full color image of Chelsea wearing the tight White pants, Black tee shirt, Dark Gray leather jacket and the necklaces, Jamie used Clip Studio Paint, Painter and Photosho!

Then we are ecstatic to exhibit five new illustrations by illustrator / musician / cosplayer Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com, who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, and used Procreate on the Ipad Pro for the illustration of “Gigi”! Gigi the genie catgirl is among the many NPCs in Mike’s monthly tabletop fantasy RPG The Adventures of Nystia Nightshade!  She is so alluring and sexy in her purrple harem outfit!

Rebecca used the pencil, pen & colored pencils upon the toned paper for these next four illustrations of wonderful winged women! “Light Bringer” is the beautiful image of the angel with the ball of light; and ”Prayer” is the gorgeous image of the angel offering cheerfully her holy prayers!  “Summer Treat” is the lovely image of the faerie enjoying the ice cream; and “Dragon Rock” is the peppy, perky, pretty pic of the dragon girl in the off-shoulder pink dress!

Lastly but not leastly is the “Chimera” illustration by Rebecca and Mike! Mike added the background scenery to Rebecca’s illustration of Erinya Nadezhda Gallyasimova, the chimera girl of the human, lion, goat, snake and dragon mix!  So, what do y’all think of the latest additions to our mewseum?
