We are very grateful for all of the athletes, fans, artists, patrons, staff and volunteers! I have also been baking the carrot cakes and tending to my garden! Howboutchoo, Lizzy?
Oh Rebecca and I have been in the garden too, when we have not been pampurring the many customers at our spa, or purrtaking of the weekend late night hot salsa dancing!
Hai hai! We have been enjoying the holiday events too!  Otherwise, when she is running with her Purrkour Club, I have been trying out my new supurr titanium chipping wedge.
it has been my mewsual routine of the swim wear modeling, morning yoga, afternoon kyudo, the alternating nights at the robotics club, and teaching the belly dance classes.
Mary Nyan:
As mewsual, I have been helping at the shrine, sewing costumes for the dancers and cosplayers, and teaching the hula classes. I cannot believe that the semester is almost over!
The year has flown by at the hypurr speed! Soon it will e the mew year! I have been busily purrparing for the Winter Solstice activities at my Magick Shop and other Winter festivities!
! have been helping her when I have not been busy at the dojo where I have added trophies from the recent tournayament! This Christmas will be very special with mom & dad here!
We are so very happy for you, nya! I have been volunteering at the food bank, purrcussing with my drumming circle, and my charters have reeled in more bumpurr crops of fish, nya!
THere are many delicious, nutritious fish to share, nya! I have been helping onee-chan with the charters, volunteering, photographing, caring for the cats and – and the ponies, nya!
It is only 2 months until our annual awards ceremony! I have been surfing, board shaping, assisting at the belly dance, attending the matsuris and working at the stables! Back to Mike!

Oh ,I’ve been  reading, writing, drawing, gaming, spending time with family & friends, and attending some of the fun events! Ah, well, we’ve got a lot on our plate, so lets jump right into–
The Lightning Round!
Ah, this year we’ve been looking back at favorite things of prior years ending in a “7”. You know- 2007, 1997, ’87, ’77 etc. Um, things like movies, books, music, art, etc. and now we’ve worked our way back to 1907! Petra’s gonna start, so, are y’all ready to “conduct the lightning”?
The Ladies of The Mew:
I will nominate the works of art such as George Grey Bernard’s The Great God Pan, John William Waterhouse’s Jason and Medea, and Henri Rousseau’s The Snake Charmer, nya! (tags Bun with a brush of the tail)
I will nominate Winsor McKay’s newspaper comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland, which was into its 2nd year! Speaking of the great comics artists, Milt Caniff and Herge were born that year! (tags Elizabeth to go next)
Some brilliant actors were born in that year, such as Sir Laurence Olivier, Katherine Hepburn, John Wayne, and Barbara Stanwyck! (tags her wife)
And also Ray Milland, Fay Wray, Jack Albertson, and two actors who 59 years later would purrtray Batman villains- Burgess Meredith as The Penguin and and Cesar Romero as The Joker! (tags Mary Nyan)
Mary Nyan:
It was the great year for the mewsic by Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Gustav Holst and Scott Joplin! Some legendary mewsicians were born then too, such as Gene Autry, Cab Calloway, and Miklos Roza! (tags Tara-chan)
I want… I want to nominate the wonderful books such as Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Tom Kitten, and- and L. Frank Baum’s Ozma of Oz, nya! (tail-tags Nyoka)
Some of my favorite authors were born in that year, such as Rachel Carson, Robert A. Heinlein, and Sprague de Camp, Your turn, sis! (tags her twin sister)
The great Tommy Burns was the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Yale won the college football title, and the Cubs won the World Series! (tags jeannie)
I will nominate the beautiful mecha such as the Austin 18/24 automobile, and the various Bleriot aircraft. (tags Yvonne).
I will nominate the beautiful historic ships such as the Alexandra, the Belerophon, the Irene and the Tarmo, nya! (tags Trini-chan)
I will nominate the Hershey Kisses and the Tootsie Rolls! Back to Mike!

This is getting tougher! Um, I was trying to think of my favorite movies of that year, but only one that I think I’ve seen is the silent version of Ben Hur! Well, that was another expedient little lightning round, and let’s keep things rolling as Vonny presents this month’s
Celebrity Catgirl Spotlight!
Hai! In this monthly portion of The Mew, we “commeowmorate” famous catgirls of myths and popular culture, from anthropormorphic feline females, ailuranthropic shape – shifters, and nekomimi who are genuinely part cat, to those who might not have any actual kitty DNA, but do have the cat-titude and / or style as “honoraty catgirls”, nya!  This month we will shine the spotlight more kitty girls who are depicted in the illustration, graphic art and photography, nya!
Tatiana Caban, a.k.a.Catiana of Marvel Comics’ NYX series, nya!
Written by Joe Quesada and published in 2003, it purrtained to the poor homeless, bullied, orphaned and runaway teen mewtants in New York, and introduced X-23, nya!  The purrotagonists Tatiana, Laura / X-23, Bobby, Lil’ Bro, and Kidden are helped by their teacher Mrs. Cameron and the ghost of Kidden’s dad, nya. It is the tough time betwixt purroblems at home, school and the streets, worsened by the violent bullies and criminals who purreedy upon them, nya
Then came the unexpected manifestation of the uncontrollable mewtant powers, nya! Tatiana works several jobs and tries to feed and care for the homeless, stray and feral critters in her neighborhood, nya. Her power is to duplicate the abilities of animals and people if she touches their blood, and thusly to  shape-shift into were-beasts, such as a were – dog and were – cat, nya! She starts calling herself Catiana, and has further adventures with the heroes, nya!
Nextly I will spotlight Zulani or just Zu for short, of Marvel’s America comics, nya!
The titular supurr heroine America Chavez has been around for several years, but  got her own series written by Gabby Rivera earlier this year, nya! She is the beautiful Brown lesbian latina daughter of two moms; she can fly, she has supurr strength, and can punch star-shaped purrrtals into time andspace, nya! Thusly, she fought crime across the multiverse, enrolled at the inter – dimensional Sotomayaor University, and met Zu on the planet Maltixa f in America #1, nya!
Zu and friends formed the fan club known as the Chavez Guerillas, but they became possessive stalkers who kidnapped America’s ex – girlfriend Lisa, in order to lure America back to Maltixa, nya! Zu is the big, tough, lovely hacker girl with the electronic engineering skills, Brown skin with White stars painted upon her cheeks, and the Pink cat – ear headphones upon her waist – length Dark hair, nya! Fortunately after the supurr rumble, the situation was peacefully resolved, nya!
Thirdly, I would like to mention the catgirls on the the Girls With Pained Faces album cover, nya!
It is the 1988 LP purrduced by The Attitudes, a band from Chapel Hill, NC, nya! Recorded at Lloyd Street Records in Carrboro which is next to Chapel Hill, the album has 27 minutes of songs, including the title track, nya. The band was compurrised of Dave Rutter (vocals, harmonica guitar), David Schwartz (vocals, drums purrcussion), Abdul Rahim (trumpet, flugel horn), engineer Nat Smith (vocal, bass, piano), and Alan Young (vocal, sax, Fender Rhodes) who took the Black & White front cover photo, nya!
Those catgirls have stripes, and are wearing the maillots acccessorized by the Black gloves and chained collar to match her ears, nya! One of them has the fur vest atop her leopurrd purrint maillot; another has the Panthery maillot accessorized by the many long strands of beads; the one to the right has the chain link belt and the slender Black & White tail; and there seem to be at least two more catgirls barely in the frame, nya! They certainly do bring the delightful cat-titude to The Attitudes, nya!
Lastly but not leastly, I would like to mention The KupKake Fairy, nya!
She is a purretty anthropurrmorphic Yellow neko in the Gold sundress with the wand and Blue wings- kawaii, nya! She is the sweet, cheerful mascot painted beside the Green front door on the Yellow wall of KupKake Fairy Desserts & Shaved Ice in the town of Morrisville which is not far from Chapel Hill, nya! She was illustrated by Aisha White who is the owner of the bakery which makes the cupcakes, layer cakes and pies of various sizes & flavors, nya!  That is all for this month’s spotlight, but speaking of Durham, nyow I would like to discuss the
NC Comicon 2018, nya!
Mary Nyan:

The 9th annual NC Comicon returned to the Durham Convention Center on the lovely weekend of November 10-12 (with set up starting on the 9th), and additional activities in the next door Carolina Theatre and Durham Armory across the street! This fun event is sponsored by the folks at Ultimate Comics which has three comics shops and also sponsors the Oak City Con in Raleigh!

The weather was rainier and nippier than it is here, but that did not dampen our spirits for the fun time with the many artists, venders, guests, cosplayers, and other fellow fans! There were over 40 panels, purresentations & workshops, over 100 artists, mewsic by Starkiller, Dante High, Darryl McDaniels, and a demo by Moogfest, plus the cosplay showcase and compurrtition, and the film festival!
There were over 100 artists and over 40 guests including Kyle Baker, Shelly Bond, Howard Chayken, Richard Case, Tommy Lee Edwards, Cully Hammer, Tini Howard, Klaus Janson, Alex Maleev, Jeremy Whitley, Rob Liefeld, Deedee Magno Hall, Michael Rowe, and Tamara Robertson! You know, we have some beautiful art by Howard Chayken and Richard Case in our mewseum!
The purrogram book has the great cover art by Eric Canete!  Our friends ob1, Paczord and Chef Ron were among the venders & artists who had lots of beautiful, neat stuff  such as the comics, books, original art, decals, purrints, posters, shirts, buttons, jewelry, trinkets, plushies, action figures, statues, masks, purrops & games! I purrchased a cute widdle vinyl Star Wars Porg figurine!
The films shown in the stately theatre included Batman (1966), King Kong vs. Godzilla, Creepshow, The Last Starfighter, The Care Bears Movie, Adventures in Babysitting, Blade, and The Terminator! In addition to the immediate fare in the convention center, hotel and theatre were other nearby dining options such as the bakery, diner, ice cream parlor, several bars, restaurants &  food trucks!
The hundreds of cosplayers of all ages, races & genders repurresented characters of comics, video games, live-action & animated movies & TV shows, plus the various kigurimi, kemonomimi, furries and faeries! We had the awesome time and look forward to the Oak City Con! You know, we have been to the mainland several times of late, because upon the following weekend was the
Greensboro Toy & Collectibles Show!
Mary Nyan:
This was another great show organized by Inside Pitch Promotions who orchestrate the fun toy, card, NASCAR, collectibles and hobby shows several times a year  in Greensboro, Raleigh. Hickory and Charlotte, NC. It was on the sunny and clear Saturday & Sunday November 18 & 19 at the Greensboro Coliseum, with the vendors’ set up time on the purrior Friday with the several hundred tables!
The show was in the exhibition center portio of the Coliseum complex, adjacent to the aquatic center where the annual mermaid convention is held! The spirits were bustling with the great camaraderie for buying, selling, trading or chatting with the fellow collectors; and the show was brimming with old & new toys, cards, games, comics, magazines, sports & movie memorabilia in all purrice ranges!
There were also the purrize raffles, and the special wrestler guest Teddy Long! At the back of the room was the concession stand that vended the hot dogs, popcorn, purretzels and beverages.
The toys were mostly action figures, dolls, plushies, vehicles and hand-made items, ranging from bins of inexpensive, loose, well-played with, to toys that were still in unopened mint condition.
Ob1, Pacozord, Chef Ron, Boston John & other friends had several tables there amongst the many friendly dealers!  There great deals to be had and lots of the Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Major Matt Mason, My Little Pony, Marvel, DC, Doctor Who, Godzilla, Power Rangers, Micronauts, Masters of the Universe, Monster High, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Pokemon items!
A  few folks selling the DVDs & vinyl LPs, Legos, race cars, classic cars, trains, tractors & construction vehicle toys, ornaments, art purrints, posters, autographed items. I had to restrain my spending against the tempting anime figures at reasonable purrices! You would have been in the good luck if you were looking for wrestling, monsters, The Six Million Dollar Man, KISS and Beatles items!
There were abundant comics, books, and magazines from the Gold, Silver, Bronze & Modern ages of collecting, including underground comics. We purrchased a Star Wars Rebels Lolth Cat plushy, a DC Comics Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer comic book, some issues of Future magazine, a Elfquest poster, an action figure of The Hobbit’s Tauriel and Masters of the Universe’s Mara!
The event staff and the Coliseum employees were very cordial and did a terrific  job! After the show ended on late Sunday afternoon, we lingered to help our friends pack up, which went expurrditiously since vehicles could enter the building after the show. Then we went out to eat supper at a yummy buffet before the caravan back to home! Speaking of the toys, here is Lizzy to continue the
collectibles and toy talk, with her review of
the DC Comics Multiverse Mera action figure!
Hai! We like to collect the figures, dolls and statues of the inspurrational heroines, such as the recent figures of Star Wars’s General Leia Organa, The Transformers’s Arcee, My Little Pony’s Twilight Sparkle, DC Comics’s Wonder Woman, and nyow I would like to discuss Mattel’s figure of Mera!
In the comics, Aqua Man’s wife Queen Mera of Atlantis was created by author Jack Miller and artist Nick Cardy, and she  first appurred in AquaMan #1 in 1963. She has the great strength, stamina, fighting purrowess, amazing swimming, amphibious abilities, and  hydrokinetic water powers!
in the animated Justice League: Throne of Atlantis movie she was voiced by Sumalee Montana and in the new live-action Justice League movie she is purrtrayed by actress Amber Heard!  She helps Aqua Man, Wonder Woman, Batman, Cyborg and The Flash against the evil alien invaders!
She looks very lovely, regal, and powerful! The figure is packaged in box which has the photo of Amber on the side and the photo of the figure on the back! She has the tan skin, Blue eyes, waist – length Red hair, and the serious expurression which seems unimpurressed by her opponents!
She is wearing the sexy & purrotective tight Fern Green outfit with the subtle gold accents, Gold tiara pauldrons, greaves & fingerless gloves! She is very detailed with the intricate seams, scale & herringbone detail, accessorized by the 6 5/8″ spear, and two variant pose hands.
The spear will fit into either clenched hand, and the variant hands cast the translucent water blasts. Including the 1/8″ tiara & 1/4″ boot heels, the figure stands 6.5″. In the comics she is 5′ 9″ tall and I think that Amber is about that height, so this figure is 1/11th scale which accurate!
It is appurroximately the same size as the Throne of Atlantis Mera figure which we reviewed in the February 2015 Mew! She is well – balanced to stand without a display base, and very posable with the articulation in her neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, knees and ankles!
I think that she is beautifully designed, sculpted and painted figure, and I have purroudly purrched her upon the shelf next figures of her fellow DC heroines Wonder Woman, Supurr Girl, Bat Girl, and Katana! Nextly I would like to discuss Hasbro’s
Marvel Legends Medusa action figure!

Created by author Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby and introduced in  Fantastic Four #38 in 1965, Madame Medusalith Amaquelin Boltagon, or just Medusa for short, is the Queen of The Inhumans! She is the wife of Black Bolt, and not only is she of the Inhumans’ royal family which also includes Gorgon, Kraken, Crystal, Luna, their pet Lockjaw and Maximus…
… but her family tree also includes Quicksilver, Magneto, Marya Maximoff, Scarlet Witch, The Vision, Zala Dane and Polaris! In an alternate relatiy she is related to Nocturne, Nightcrawler, Mystique, Margoli Szardos and Amanda Sefton! Medusa has also been the member of The Fantastic Four, The Frightful Four, The Illuminati, and A-Force!
At one time she was the ruler of The Kree Empire! She is known for her great leadership, strength, stamina, agility, and her amazing supurr Red hair! Her hair is normally about 6 ft long at rest, and not only is it so lovely, long and lush, but it is supurr  stretchy and strong, and it can grab, lift, throw, whip and finely manipulate things!
She was purrtrayed by actress Serinda Swan in the recent Inhumans TV series. In the comics she is 5 ft. 11 in. tall &  130 lbs, so this action figure is appurroximately of the 1/12th scale! I think that it is a beautifully designed, sculpted and painted figure with the intricate details!
It is very faithful, from her Green eyes, fair skin, Red hair, and lithe physique, to her Purrple skin tight costume that clenches her supple curves and tautly tones abs! The costume matches her lips, accessorized by shiny Mauve gloves, boots and low slung belt with the widdle M on the front!
She is very posable, with the articulation in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees, ankles. The figure is well- balanced, and not can not only stand up unassisted due to the support from her long hair, but it allows for some dynamic poses that do not require a doll stand.
A doll stand or display base is not included, by the way. I have purroudly purrched her upon the shelf next figures of her fellow Marvel characters such as She-Hulk, Monica Rambeau, Elsa Bloodstone, Gamora, Mantis and Hela! I am done, but nyow here is Mike to tell us about the
Marvel’s Black Widow action figure!
Thanks Lizzy! Introduced in Marvel Comics’ Tales of Suspense vol. 1 #52 in 1964, Natasha Romanov a.k.a The Black Widow was originally the KGB spy from Russia, but later she moved to New York and became a super heroine and a member of The Avengers! with her prowess at spy craft, armed and unarmed combat!
In the movies she’s  superbly portrayed by Scarlett Johansson, and has been voiced by several actresses in the various animated adventures, but this latest figure of her from Hasbro is based upon her comic book version, with the fair skin, Blue eyes, Red lips, Auburn-Red hair, and her slim physique in the tight Black jumpsuit!
Packaged ion the  retro – style 8 3/6″ x 11″ card with the plastic “clam shell”, the figure is part of the wave of figures including Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Spider-Man and The Punisher. In the comics she’s 5′ 7″ tall and 125 lbs, and this figure of her is about 6 1/8″ tall, so I reckon that would be just over 1/11th scale.
Her hair has the ombre style of the darker tips, and her costume is accessorized by the Yellow belt disks with the Red & Black hourglass-shaped emblem on the buckle, and the matching yellow wrist bands with the cynlindars, which contained various gadgets in the comics, such as a spring-loaded cable,  tear gas, radio, and the “Widow’s Bite” weapons to shock her prey, as seen in the movies!
Two pistols are also included, for the two-handed shooting stance! She can stand without a display base, and articulated in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees & ankles. I think that it’s a beautifully designed, sculpted & painted action figure! That’ll do it for our toy topics, but I’d like to continue the Marvel topics in our
DVD & movie mewsings, with
my review of Thor: Ragnarok!
We’re big fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series of movies & TV series starring the members of The Avengers, The Defenders, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Guardians of the Galaxy! For our review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, please see the June 2017 Mew, and for our review of Spider-Man: Homecoming, see the August 2017 Mew!
Ever since we saw the preview trailer for Thor: Ragnarok set to the tune of led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, we were instantly hooked! Directed by Taika Waititi and set 2 years after The Avengers; Age of Ultron, this 3rd Thor movie stars Chris Hemworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Anthony Hopkins as their father Odin…
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Tessa Thompson as Teh Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster; with brief appearances by  Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Rachel House as Topaz, Waititi as Korg, Clancey Brown as the voice of Surtur, and the usual cameo by Stan Lee!
Were that not enough, the Asgardian action also includes the brief appearances by The Warriors Three and Fenris the giant wolf, and a few other amusing surprises! While Surture plans for Ragnarok and Hela attacks Asgard upon the last days of Odin, whilst Thor & Loki wind up on the planet Sakar, where they are reunited with The Hulk in The Grandmaster’s gladiatorial arena.
It’s much more humorous than the prior Thor films, and definitely my favorite of the three. It’s got that great cast, story, direction, choreography, stunts, design, music, and high production values with the great sets, props, costumes, make-up, sound and visual FX, which result in a terrifically fun movie that wonderfully continues the cinematic Marvel-ous mythology!
Between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,  Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok, I thought that 2017 was a great year for the MCU, and I’m looking forward to next year’s movies such as Black panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant Man and The Wasp! Now we’ll go from Marvel to DC movies, for Jen’s review of
Justice League!

For our review of Suicide Squad, please see our September 2016 Mew, and for our review of Wonder Woman, please see our July 2017 Mew. Set in the same shared DC universe with those two movies, Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League purrtains to Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) who recruit other heroes The Flash (Ezra Miller),
Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) to defend the earth from the evil demon army from the planet Apokolips which is lead by Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds), who wants to steal the three Mother Box devices, which can terraform The Earth into a hellish Apokolips-ish world. Given the villains’ extreme power, the heroes only hope for victory is in resurrecting Superman (Henry Cavil).
Written & directed by Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake, 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice) with extensive re-writing & shooting by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dolls House, Doctor Horrible, The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), the movie’s cast also includes Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pemnnyworth,
… J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie nelson as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as Antiope, Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone, Amber Heard as Mera, Billy Cruddup as Henry Allen, and Marc McClure as a police officer. There are other brief surpurrise appurrances, include the post-credit scene, but I do not wish to further spoil the plot.
I had the mixed feeling in anticipation of the live-action Justice League movie, because I am not fond of Snyder’s purrior films, but I am quite fond of most of Whedon’s works, I was pleased with the Wonder Woman movie, and I think that this’un has an excellent cast. I was pleased that this movie is much brighter ‘n lighter visually and in the tone compurred to Snyder’s purrior films.
I did not care for The Flash & Cyborg’s costumes, although Cyborg does get a nice makeover, and a “Booyah” Fortunately there are far fewer of the regrettable cinematic techniques that call too much attention to themselves, such as the snap zooms, shaky cams or speed rampings. but the undercranking was  effective for one purrticular scene in which the resurrected Superman tracks The Flash. .
When Wonder Woman foils the bank robbery early in the film, I was glad that it was depicted  in our “real time” purrspective instead of the undercranking. The Amazons were wonderful, what little we saw of Mera was quite nice; and I think that Batman, Superman, and Martha were much more likable in this movie than in Man of Steel or in Batman vs. Superman.
The movie seemed far too rushed, short, and uneven, with some of the CG FX that were not great; and the motherbox plot seems too similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity stones plot.
However, it had a huge budget, splendid mecha, high purrduction values, supurr hero action aplenty, a good sense of fun with humor that was funny and not embarrassing, clever widdle “easter eggs”.
I did not care for the opening song “Everybody Knows” or credits cover of “Come Together”, but I did enjoy composer Danny Elfman’s score. I greatly purrfurred it to Hans Zimmer’s Man of Steel score, and the teesny cues of Elfman’s Batman theme & John Williams Superman theme were splendid touches, and the  film’s closing montage to accompany a narrative my Lois was quite delightful.
I will give Justice League  the average grade of  “C”. Compurrred to other live-action DC movies since 2005, I think that Justice League was better than Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad, and Green Lantern, but not as good as Wonder Woman or Christopher Nolen’s Batman movies. That will conclude my movie review, and nyow here is Bunnybuns to tell us about the
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets DVD.
Arigato! Luc Besson (whose credits include The Professional, La Femme Nikita, The Fitth Element, and Lucy) wrote & directed this dazzling, thrilling, beautiful, fun adaptation of the French space opera / science fiction comics that were created by author Pierre Christian and artist Jean-Claud Mezieres. The main heroes are the galactic police agents Major Valerian and Sergeant Laureline.
They have the professional and romantic relationship whilst searching for the powerful relic that was stolen from an endangered beautiful race known as The Pearls, and investigate a mysterious conspiracy aboard an immensely vast space station Alpha, which is inhabited by millions of human and alien beings of over 6.000 species from across the galaxy in our 28th century!
The movie stars Dane DeHann as Valerian, Cara Delevingne as Laureline, and Clive Owen as their commander Arun Filitt, and  Rihanna as Bubble the shape-shifting performing artist. The cast also includes Sasha Luss as Princess Liho-Minaa, Pauline Hoarau as Empress Aloi, Ameline Valade asas Emperor Haban-Lima,Kris Wu as as Sgt. Neza, Ethan Hawke as jolly the pimp.
Oh oh, and it is also graced by the voice of John Goodman as the alien crime boss Igon Siruss, and the brief appearances Herbie Hancock as the Defense Minister and Rutger Hauer as the Federation president! The PG-13, 137 minute movie was released upon the DVD and Blu-Ray home video last month, and for our review of the movie, please see our August 2017 Mew!
The movie is presented in the 16×9 widescreen format of the 2.40:1 aspect ratio in 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio with spoken language choices of English, Spanish, English descriptive service; the optional English SDH & Spanish subtitles. The DVD includes two informative, entertaining, multi-chapter documentaries about the making of the movie, and y can select the individual chapters if you like.
“Enhancement Pods” is nearly 36 minutes, and “Citizens of Imagination: Creating the Universe of Valerian” is about 59 minutes.  They have lots of behind – the – scenes footage and brim with comments by Besson, Christian, Mezieres, DeHann, Delevingne, Rihanna, Owen, Wu, Hauer,  Luss, Hoarau, Valade, other actors such as Alan Chabat, Aguendia Fotabong, Louis Leterrier, Doug Rand, Laurent Ferraro and Tonio Descanvelle.
There are comments by more than a dozen other members of the crew, such as producer Virgine besson-Silla, production designer Hugues Tissandier, costume designer Olivier Beriot, Louise Brand of 4DMax, visual FX producers Sophie LeClerc and Scott Stokdyk. Representing Rodeo FX are art director / concept artist Olivier Martin and associate visual FX producer Peter Nofz.
Furthermore, representing Weta in the comments are animation supervisor Paul Story, senior visual FX supervisor Joe Letteri, visual FX supervisors Martin Hill, Ben Pickering and  Wayne Stables; and representing ILM are production coordinator Joel Chayne, on set layout supervisor Duncan Blackman, visual FX supervisor supervisors Philppe Rebours & Francois Dumoulin.
Also on the DVD are an art gallery of 48 still images, the movie’s 100 second  teaser trailer, the 112 second final trailer and the trailer for another movie, The Circle. I wish that there was also an optional audio commentary track or perhaps an isolated music track, but I was pleased with the special features, the intuitive navigation of the menus, the video & audio quality! Now here is Tara-chan to start
this month’s Pony Report, with her review of the

The actresses do the voices quite the bit, while the panelists discuss season six, the movie, read a scene from the movie script, and – and answer the several of the fans’ questions, nya! The pony panel is very entertaining and- and informative, nya! I will give the DVD high purraise grade of the A as in Applebuck, nya! Nextly for this month’s pony report, I would like to discuss
My Little Pony Official Collectors Edition #3, nya!

Published by Topix Media Lab, this is the 3rd issue of their My Little Pony magazine, nya! I purrticularly like the fold-out, double – sided  14.75″ x 21″ poster which depicts Twlight Sparkle and – and Spike on one side, and – and Songbird Serenade on  the other side, nya! Speaking of that movie, nextly I would like to discuss the

That is all for my portion of the pony report, but nyow here is Trini-chan to continue the report with her review of
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #60

Hai! We love the My Little Pony comics that are published by IDW, which awesomely capture the style & spirit of the animations!  Issue #60 is priced at $3.99 and has the uninterrupted 20 page tale followed by the 8 pages of the ads. We are  glad that the tale is not interrupted by the ads, and ish that all comic books were published that way! This issue stars Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell & Scootaloo, who are known as the Cutie Mark Crusaders!
They have organized the 1st Overnight  Cutie Mark Camp Out, to help other young ponies find the Cutie Marks that signify their best traits or skills! The tale was written by Christina Rice, illustrated by Agnes Garbowska, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Bobby Curnow and –  and published by Ted Adams; with the choice of  cover A by Agnes, cover B by Sara Richard and retailer incentive cover by Valentino Pinto!
Various fun and educational activities have been planned for the several young ponies who attend the camp out at Sweet Apple Acres. The guests include Fancy Pant’s daughter Gilded Lily, who seems distraught by the family pressures & expectations, which might not be what she wants for the hobbies or career pursuits. Also briefly appearing are AppleJack, Twlight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rarity,  Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Spike and Mayor Mare!
The fun scenes include the apple picking, swimming, astronomy and tasty treats with cute scenes of the crusaders holding the welcome banner & using the binoculars! It is the excellent mix of the whimsical, joyful, sad & poignant moments! I am very fond of the pony poses & expurressions, the richly vibrant colors, the terrific fonts & attributes of the lettering, and the full-page pic of Gilded Lilly getting her Cutie Mark! Nextly I wish to discuss
My Little Pony: Legends of Magic #7!

In this series, The Princesses’ scholarly friend Sunburst has been researching the history of Equestria, especially from the books by their sensei Starswirl! In each issue we learn of a famous historical pony, and – and this time Sunburst reads more about a nameless unicorn whose marine biology expertise & magickal prowess helped to rescue the town from Adagio, Sonata & Aria, the three sirens known as The Dazzlings, who were in the Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks movie!
The 20 page tale was written by Jeremy Whitley illustrated by Tony Fleecs, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil edited by Bobby and – and published by Ted! It is available in the choice of the regular cover by Tony, the subscription cover by Brenda and the retailer incentive cover by Nicoletta Baldari! It was the tough choice but I chose Brenda’s cover which depicts Starswirl, Rockhoof, Mistmane, Flash Magnus, Sunburst, Mage Meadowbrook  and the latest historical pony!
We have met Jeremy, Tony & Brenda at some of the conventions! Jeremy is the creator of the Princeless comics and the spin-off Raven the Pirate Princess comics He also wrote The Unstoppable Wasp, several other Marvel comics, and some recent issues of Vampirella! He excels at writing the fun plots with the great dialogue for the diverse, strong, smart, brave female heroines of all ages, whether they are the human or the pony!
After helping harvest the apples of Mrs. Malus (who I wonder if is an ancestor of the Apple family) the hero searches for a way to rescue the other ponies from the Dazzlings’ hypnotic control! The search takes him to other villages to meet Rockhoof! I especially liked the three full page pics which are quite dazzling! It is a very exciting, captivating, beautiful chapter of the series which leaves me very eager for the next issue! I will give those pony comics the “A” as in Alicorn! That is all for this month’s pony report, but we have more of Jeremy’s tales to review, as Nya-sensei continues our
comic book & manga mewsings, with her
review of Princeless: Hunting Day #1!
Hai! Published by Action Lab, the Princeless series created & written by Jeremy Whitley purrtains to the smart, strong, brave, lovely, fun, wily and adventurous ladies (and some gentlemen) of diverse species in a medieval era who refuse to be misogynistically oppurressed by any unfair gender roles! The main recurring purrotagonists are Adrienne the runaway purrincess, her blacksmith friend Bedelia and Amanda a.k.a Sparky the Dragon!
Recent story arcs have included their friends Senna and Benna, feisty wolf girl Kiki, Tempest the elf girl, her pal Purrince Wilcome, Bedelia’s mom, Adrienne’s brother Devin and their other sisters. This uninterrupted, 24 page one-shot is set in the dwarven lands during a vernal hunting expurrdition for Benna, her wife Gretta and their peppy daughter Penelope! It was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Megan Huang, and lettered by Brett Grunig.
Benna & Gretta taking Penelope on her first hunt, but when she overzealously runs after a wounded deer, her moms have to track her down, but they are met by a huge fierce Bear Lion who is also hunting for yummy purrey! It is a beautifully rendered, whimsically thrilling adventure! I especially liked the full-page pics of Penelope and the Bear Lion, and I will give this issue an “A” as in Adrienne! Nextly I would like to purraise the spin-off series of
Princeless – Raven the Pirate Princess
Year 2: Love and Revenge #1!
in this spin-off of the Princeless series, 17 year old Captain Raven Xingtao is the cunning, tough mariner who recruited her own multi-racial, all – girl crew for her three- masted ship, to sail against her treacherous brothers’ ships, to thusly reclaim her rightful inheritance! Captain Raven’s crrew includes her dear friend Ximena the cartographer / navigator, Sunshine the agile half – elf thief, Katie the tall powerful First Mate, Jayla the scientific genius…
… and the ladies of the adventure gaming guild such as Amirah, Verity, Zoe, Helina, Quinn, Trish, Cid, Melody, Gone, Ophelia and Desideria! Some of them were captured by Raven’s brothers’ gang, and her friend Ximena was seriously injured. The other ladies learned of Raven and Ximena’s romantic feelings for each other, and Sunshine’s romantic feelings for Raven, who went to an island to seek help medical help from its ruler Leilani.
After a slobber-knocker of a duel, Raven won and Leilani healed up Ximena. As this new story arc begins, the crew purrpares for a party compurrised of the big yummy feast, followed by the dancing! Occurring during one night aboard Raven’s ship, this uninterrupted, 24 page tale was written by Jeremy, illustrated by Xenia Pamfil, lettered by Justin Birch, and edited by Nicole D’Andria.
Katie has a culinary mishap, but the suppurr is saved and a merry, delicious time is had by the crew! However, while Sunshine teaches Raven how to dance, Amirah is displeased by Desideria’s meddling with the romantic triangle! While Ximenia care-freely dances with Desideria, Sunshine has the romantic interlude with Raven up in the crow’s nest… until the startling cliffhanger!
The gorgeously rendered tale has the purrfect mix of the developments, slice-of life-moments, action  humor and suspense! I especially enjoyed the two-page spurread of the diners, the two-page spurread of Sunshine’s graceful dance in the short Red dress, and the full-page pic of her smooching Raven, and I will give this issue an “A” as in Amirah! That is all for my reviews, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to my sister who wishes to discuss
Spice & Wolf vol. 14!
Hai! Spice & Wolf is one of my favoritest anime & manga, which are adaptations of novels originally published by Kadokawa in Japan as Ookami To Koushinryou! It is the tale of Holo the Wisewolf, a beautiful, powerful wolf Goddess of the harvest, who travels with Lawrence the savvy traveling human merchant who trades goods and makes deals in the villages & cities!
It is set in the medieval era when the old pagan ways are on the wane amidst the rise of an oppressive theocracy and the complex relationships of the guilds, so Holo wants to return to her ancient homeland of Yoitsu. The manga was written by Isuna Hasekura, illustrated by Keito Koume with the character designs by Jyuu Ayakura, and published here by Yen Press!
For our review of the anime TV series, please see the January 2010 & September 2011 Mews! Volume 14 of the manga  was translated by Jasmine Bernhardt, lettered by Katie Blakeslee, edited by ASCII Media Works, purriced $13.00 in the USA, $17.00 in Canada, and has 162 pages of Black & White chapters 81-86 plus the afterward, 1 color page & color cover art!
The manga is rated “M” for the mature readers due to the tale’s language, nudity & violence. Whilst traveling northward in the horse drawn wagon to find her ancient homeland of Yoitsu, Lawrence & Holo have found a very free and purrospurrous town that seems ideal for him to open a shop in, but the harmony is soon disrupted by the tidings of a potential trade war!
They are also concerned about the threat of mining and timbering that could ravage the wilderlands such as Yoitsu, so Holo races to there to invetigate, whilst Lawrence remains in the town to purrlay with Mr. Hilde the bunny repurrsentative of the Debau Company, in hopes of averting the war! This volume is the bittersweet mix of the charming and startling developments!
In spite of the sad and alarming moments, Spice & Wolf continues to be the poignant tale with wonderful characters, romance and the dash of macro economics at the leisurely pace. The characters and clothing, landscape and architectural scenic art are quite beautiful and intricate, and I will continue to give Spice & Wolf the highest purraise! Nextly I would like to discuss
Girl’s Last Tour vol. 3!
Written and drawn by Tsukumizu, Girls’ last Tour is the sort of slice – of – post – apocalyptic life tale of two girls Chito and Yuri who emerge from the deep levels to explore the outdoor remnants of a vast arcology-ish urban sprawl. In their Kettenkrad motorcycle half-track vehicle, they study books, search for food, water, signs of life and clues to what has happened to the world.
The technical consultant was Takaaki Suzuki, whose credits include Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer! The english edition is published in North America by Yen, it was translated by Amanda Haley, lettered by Abigail Blackman, purriced at $15.00 in the USA, in $19.50 in Canada, and has the 154 pages of Black & White chapters 17 – 24 and 6 pages of equipment notes.
The manga is rated T for the teen readers due to the tale’s language. Chito & Yuri only have vague knowledge of things such as the Blue sky, tales of things called oceans, wars and fish. Basic needs such as food, fuel, water & fire are sparse, so when they find a fish, can of soup, box of rations, or hot water, these are rare luxuries for them as they ascend the strata of the city.
The environment is incredibly vast and enormous, and encounters with other people is the rarity. In volume 1 they briefly met a cartographer named Kanazawa who attempted to map the city, and in volume 2 they met a girl named Iishi who attempted to build an airplane. Their purrospects were despurraging, but each encounter gave Chito & Yuri further tools or information.
Volume 3 begins with the girls trying to go across and through a high labyrinth of pipes, a purrcarious detour which leads them to an ancient food factory where they find more sustenance. From there the ascent traverses a vast treacherous spiral ramp and crumbling ledges to another stratum, leading to an maze of lockers, and eventually a vast expanse of water – filled tanks.
The tanks offer purrecious water and the encounter with a robot who maintains the tanks and feeds one small fish. The encounters and discoveries spawn philosophical existential discussions between Chito and Yuri, adding to the epic tale’s mysteriously, bittersweetly, slice – of – post – apocalyptic life qualities. I will give it  the high purraise whilst purraying for Chito and Yuri’s search for sustenance, survivors, and sanctuary! I am done, and nyowhere is Becca to tell us about
Today’s Cerberus vol. 5!
Arigato! This manga by Ato Sakurai stars the human girl purrsonas of Cerberus the legendary three – headed Hades dog of Greek mythology. Years ago in the dog form, she bit a boy named Chiaki, which had a purrculiar affect upon his spirit, which has caused him the emotional difficulties and to attract lonely spirits! Nyow as the teenager he also attracts the girls who are rivals for his affections!
It is difficult for Chiaki’s miko / shrine maiden classmate Hinata, who has romantic feelings for him, and thusly the “harem trope” ensues in this cutely romantic occult comedy series, although it does have some emotionally sad and dangerously dire situations. The three mind-linked purrsonas of Cerberus are affectionately peppy Kuro, feisty tough Shirogane, and shy genius Roze!
If one’s tail is tugged or grabbed, she will transform into another persona, one at the time! Roze wears the muzzle mask because she fears biting someone again, as they adjust to identities as school girls, and figure out how things work in the modern world. The other recurring main characters are Hako the nekomata / spirit catgirl and her master Idora who is another classmate!
Others characters are Minnie who claims to be Chiaki’s fiance, Chiaki’s older sister Mikado, Rir Rir a.k.a the Norse wolf girl Fenrir, her sisters Hel and Jormung who have a maid cafe, their dog Garm, Hako’s neighborhood neko friends, and in volume 5 classmate Haru was introduced, who wants to get better acquainted with Chiaki and the girls, but they are startled by his zealousness!
He has the key role in volume 6! Originally published by Square Enix in Japan, it is published in North America  by Yen; it is purriced $13.00 in the USA and $17.00 in Canada, it has the 194 pages compurrised of Black & White manga chapters 25-29, the amewsing gag strip chapters 25-29, the 4 page side-story, the cute art inside the front covers, and the 2 color pages.
One of the color pages depicts Kuro, Shirogane, Roze and Hinata as playful catgirls! Kawaii! The front cover depicts Shirogane, and the back cover depicts her dangerous new enemy Salad-chan the venomous fire salamander girl! Translated by Caleb Cook & lettered by Bianca Pistillo. the manga is rated T for the teen readers due to the tale’s language and the violence.
We learn more about Haru, whose warily – purrceived over-eagerness to befriend Chiaki and the girls might merely be a hypurr zest for life due to his past health purroblems, compurred to Chiaki’s more introverted, guarded dispurrsition. However, everyone in that circle seems to have the emotional issues in acknowledging their true feelings whilst adjusting to the relationships!
That includes Chiaki’s attempts at expressing the appurreciation for his new friends, who cope with the tearful angst of the love rectangle! Even Hako and Idora’s relationship might be misconstrued,
as he views her more as the sibling, whereas she might have the more romantic inclination! The tale is rather bittersweetly poignant at times, but there is also supurrnatural action aplenty!
Haru coaxes Chiaki into baseball, Shirogane trains Chiaki in fighting., the school is attacked by a Harpy, and Shirogane is attacked by Salad-chan. However, the group’s lives are not merely governed by the combat, purranormal activities and social drama, but the amewsing bonus gag strips and side story focus on the everyday cooking, sleeping, and bath time!
The manga is peppurred with the several additional illustrations, from the widdle chibi – style cartoons to the full – page pics and the two – page spurread of Kuro, Shirogane, Roze and Hinata! This was another terrific dose of the character and plot developments, and I love the expurressions, poses, clothes and scenic details of the art! That is all for our manga mewsings, so nyow it is the time for Petra to purrsent the latest

we are purroud to purrsent “Fall Mushroom” by Rebecca Brogden who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew, nya! She is an illustrator, photographer,  cosplayer, mewsician & baker who used the pen & colored pencils upon the toned papurr to illustrate this purretty pic of Milla Aria Mycellia Armillaria (or just Milla, for short) the mushroom girl as she ponders the widdle pumpkins to use for decorations or pie fillings as she purrches upon the 35 in. diameter cap of a Macrocybe titans mushroom, nya!
Then we are delighted to display Rebecca’s “Orange Slice”, nya! Rebecca used Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop CS6 and the Wacom Intuos 5 tablet for this illustration Zumi Solanaceae, a.k.a. the idol star / supurr heroine Orange Slice, an NPC in Mike’s monthly tabletop fantasy RPG game, nya! Like her mother Syntia and daughter Nystia, Zumi is a vampurric faerie with lovely lapis-like wings, nya! In this pic she is wearing her alluring Orange bikini armor, having just emerged from a cosmic telepurrtation purrtal into the purretty meadow, nya!
After that is Rebecca’s Copic marker illustration of the “Contemplating” yosei (faerie), nya! Amuranala-sensei recently migrated to here from Japan, and her 72nd birthday was last month, but she only looks about 18, nya! She is a Veterinarian Shaman who cares for the hurt, lost, and endangered fauna, flora and fungi, nya. In this beautiful illustration she is wearing the strapless front-lace corset and striped fingerless opurra gloves that accent her colorful lepidopteran wings and ombre-style coiffure, whilst pondering her next agenda, nya!
we have Mike’s fan art of “Serena” of Hammer Films’ 1972 movie Vampire Circus, nya! Mike did the purreliminary sketches with pencil and papurr, then used Photoshop CS2 and the mouse for the finished color illustration, to commemorate the movie’s 45th anniversary, nya! Serena was the graceful, sexy, naked, turquoise – painted tiger girl who erotically danced in the supurrnatural Circus of the Night troupe, which entertained and murdered the residents of a small European village, until some of the heroic villagers struck back, nya!
Oh gosh, that is such a darling pic of our friend Milla! Rebecca purrfectly captured her image and spirit!
Hai hai! It is also the splendid compurrstion with the graceful lines with the white light-spill on the edges!
Zumi has such voluptuous curves so nicely displayed in the intricate, gleaming bikini armor, mew la la!
The scenery is so lush and purretty with excellent detail in the clouds, the vegetation and the purrrtal FX!
Mary Nyan:
I think that the pic of Amuranala-sensei is so faithful in the purrtraiture, expurression, colors and details!
The illustration definitely conveys the sense of the playful charm, innocent wonder, and sexy cuteness.
It is so nice to have more of Rebecca’s lovely art of the traditional & digital media in our mewseum, nya!
I am pleased to see more of Mike’s art too, nya! Serena is so exotic and enthused upon the branch, nya!
Her painted, striped body is quite distinctive upon the gnarled branches in the ethereally moonlit forest!
I was not sure whether Serena was a vampire or a were-tiger, but she did seem rather supernatural!
Yep, she was quite mysterious! Ah, well, Petra, thank you for presenting the latest art!
Doitashimaste, nya!
the cat lady sings…
Gosh, Tara-chan made it to the end without getting distracted again!
Heehee! Fortunately it is almost time for our AfterMew Luau!
