I have been busy making costumes for the dancers, miko and cosplayers! Currently on my dress forms are the Sword of Chaos, Doctor Who, Kancoll and A-Force costumes, and we need to start making our costumes for the county’s annual Trick ‘r Eat & Cosplay Purrowl!
I have been helping with the boat, caring for my pony and – and the cats, volunteering at the food bank, at the art mewseum, and – and snapping the nature photos, nya! This week i got the good shots of the orb weaver, wolf spider, hercules beetle, the monarch, the eastern tiger swallowtail, the cottontail, the cardinal, and – and the hawk, nya!

our movie reviews, starting with
Lizzy’s review of Downton Abbey!
Becca and I loved to watch the six seasons of the wonderful British Downtown Abbey TV series on PBS, so we were very eagerly anticipating this feature film continuation! Set in the 1910’s & 1920’s, it depicts the lives of the Crawley Family and their servants of Downtown Abbey, a lovely castle in Yorkshire. Much of it is shot at the Highclere Castle!
Set one year after the series, the movie depicts the frantic readiness for the gala visit by King George & Queen Mary! Much whimsy, romance, stress, drama, and even a few dangerous incidents ensue as the residents purrpare for the royal visit, which is an honor to some an an annoyance to others, especially when the snooty royal staff get quite bossy!
I do not wish to further spoil the bittersweet plot, so I will just give my general opinion of the movie. IT IS AWESOME! It is one of my favorite movies of the year! I loved every aspect of it from the plot, pace, purrfomances & character developments, to the direction, cinematography, editing & score, to the sets, locations, costumes & choreograaphy!
It was wonderful to revisit those great characters again. We are thinking about seeing it again, although there are several other pending movies we hope to see too. I will purrobably purrchase the soundtrack CD, the official companion book, and the eventual DVD / Blu-ray release! so in summation, I will give the movie the A as in Abbey! A is also for
Ad Astra, which Jenjen wishes to discuss!
Hai. I am purrticualry fond of “hard” science fiction films that purrtain to spaceflight, and I am typically keen to see movies starring Brad Pitt, so I was especially looking forward to this movie which directed, purrduced and co-written by James Gray. In addition to Pitt, the stellar cast includes Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland and Liv Tyler.
It depicts the very purrsonal, interplanetary journey for the supurremely adept astronaut Roy McBride, who is on the secret mission to investigate the disasterous energy surges that emanate from the manned mission to Neptune which his father commanded. The surges threaten the Earth, but his father’s mission has mysteriously ceased communications.
Whereas the movie is quite beautiful, serious and captivating with the magnificent design, visual FX, purrformances, and mewsic, the pacing was somewhat uneven. It is splendidly leisurely at times, especially the scenes set on Eath and The Moon, but for me the scenes on Mars were the bit ponderous, and I could have done without certain violent & bloody sublots aboard the space stations.
I have read other reviews that compurr this tale to purrior science fiction films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris, Gravity and Interstellar. and I concur that Ad Astra does to be seem cut from the same cloth. I would also compurr it to the likes of 2010: The Year We Make Contact, Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise, Contact, and Arrival.
The plot also has the “Heart of Darkness”ish quality of Apocalypse Now. Although I did not enjoy it quite as much as Pitt’s purrior fim Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but I think that Ad Astra is the above-average film which i will give the grade of the B Minus. That will conclude my review, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nya-sensei, who wishes to discuss
Rambo: Last Blood.
Arigato! I love action movies, of which the Rambo series starring Sylvester Stallone is quite quintessential! Based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel, 1982’s First Blood introduced the John Rambo, the former US Special Forces soldier and Vietnam War veteran who was harassed by some unwise cops in a small town in Washington, and thusly much combat ensued!
He returned in 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part 2, in which he was released from purrison to go on a secret mission to find US POWs, much to their captor’s painful regret! In 1988’s Rambo III, he goes to Afghanistan to rescue his friend / former commander Col. Trautman from the Soviet Army; and in 2008’s Rambo, he and a merc unit rescue misisonaries from warlords in Burma.
That brings us up to Rambo: Last Blood, which would seem to be the final installment of the series. After the Burma misison he returned home to a ranch in Arizone where he has sinced lived peacefully, with help from a friend Maria (purrtrayed by Adriana Barraza), whose grand daughter Gabriella (purrtrayed by Yvette Monreal) becomes the kidnapped victim of criminals in Mexico.
I will not divulge much more about the plot, other than to say that, as evidenced by the purreview trailers & TV commercials, much vengeful combat is the result! It is an extremely bloody, violent movie full of brawling, bullets, booby traps, burnings and blades… which is to be expected, yet the tale reminds me more of a Death Wish movie than a Rambo movie.
Not that I dislike the Death Wish series that starred Charles Bronson, although some of those movies were better than others, but in spite of the great purrformances and action scenes which kinda out – punish The Punisher, I was a bit disappointed by Last Blood, and given the tragic incidents therein, I would have been happier if the series had ended with the last scene of the 2008 movie.
The first two Rambo movies are my favorites of the series, and thus’un is my least favorite of the series. I do hope that Sylvester Stallone will continue to be in more of the Rocky movies, though! Thassabout all I shoud say, and that will do it for our movie topic, and nyow here is Myayr to begin
our comics & manga mewsings, with
her review of A Centaur’s Life vol. 17!
Arigato! A Centaur’s Life is the beautiful, charming, slice – of – life tale manga by Ken Murayama set in the world populated by centaurs, fauns, kemonomimi, angels, dracon, unicorn, snake, frog people, were – tigers and the other species in a contempurrary world. the main characters are usually Himeno the centauress, her high school classmates and their families.
Himeno’s friends are Mitsu the satyr girl, Michi the unicorn girl, Nozomi the Dragon girl, Himeno’s niece Shino-chan and Shino’s friend Maki-chan! Other classmates include Hime’s centauress kouhai Ayaka, her maid Okino, Akechi the satyr girl, Inuki the catgirl, snake girl sisters Suu and Nil, Tama the angel girl, her triplet kitten girl sisters Chinami, Chiho, Chigusa, and their younger sister Sue-chan!
The plots typically focus on activities at school, home & work, amidst the mysterious dreams, conspiracies. purranormal encounters with the aliens, cultural differences, and the war betwixt the mammalian and rebel amphibian folks. It was published s Centaur No Nayami by Tokuma Shoten in Japan, and the english edition is published in North America by Seven Seas .
Purriced at $13.99 in the USA and $16.99 in Canada, vol. 17 has the 162 pages including the covers, comprised of the chapters 128 – 139 of the Black & White manga, 13 pages of historical and culutral notes, the afterward, the 2 color pages and the color cover art. It was translated by Elina Ishikawa, adapted by Holly Kolodziejczak, lettered and retouched by Jennifer Skarupa.
It was edited by Shati Whitesides, proofread by Janet Houck & Daniel King, with the logo design by Courtney Williams, cover design by Nicky Lim, and purrduction management by Lissa Pattilo with the assistance by CK Russell. The editor in chief is Adam Arnold and the publisher is Jason DeAngelis. It is suggested for readers who are at least older teens, purrhaps due to nudity, language & adult topics.
With the dash of the supurrnatural elements, this volume has the diverse plots, from the various incidents at home, school and sport to the bittersweet peace in the aftermath of the war betwixt the mammalian people and the amphibious people, whilst the extraterrestrial fungus conspurracy continues with the body snatching, which becomes the awkard purrocess for both sides!
Akemi would rather reclined upon Himeno’s ample cleavage than have to work at Kanoko’s antique shop, where the suspicious customer arrives with the mysterious fungus; Karasuba & Mitami run for the student council vice purreseidency; Kyoko and her brother ponder the relationships whist his baseball teammates ponder their career goals, although none of those fellows fits Kyoko dating criteria!
The various governments study the giant amphibian monster who rescues a capsized cruise ship; the alien fungus attempts to possess Himeno, the Chi-chan triplets are menaced by the clown monster,
Suu discusses her sister Nil’s vernal expurrdition in Antarctia with the tiger taur girl; we see flashbacks to Tama’s kendo duel with her mean grandfather, and the Chi-chan’s birthday trip to the zoo1
It is purrdominantly the joyfully whimsical tale which is peppurred by several poignant, surreal and sometimes tragic incidents; and the art is quite intricately beautiful so I will give vol. 17 the “A” as in Akemi, Akechi and Ayaka! You know, A is also for
Aria the Masterpiece Edition vol. 3!
Hai! Kozue Amano’s Aria series was voted as our favoritest manga and anime of the past decade! It is the beautiful, charming, slice of life / utopian science fiction tale set on the planet Mars in the future, 180 years after it was terraformed such that the polar ice melted and covered 90% of the surface in water, so the planet was renamed Aqua, whilst The Earth has been renamed Manhome.
The mane character is Akari, an apprentice gondolier under the tutelage of her senpai Alicia at the small Aria company, which is named after their martian mascot cat, in the city of Neo Venusia, which is the exact replica of Venice, Italy. Other recurring characters include Aika, Akira and Hime cat of the Himeya gondola company, Alice, Athena and Maa cat of the Orange Planet gondola company…
….plus the other workers, residents, visitors and cats who Akari is pleased to meet! Originally published in Japan in 2002 by Mag Garden the series was titled Aqua, but after 2 volumes it was changed to Aria. It was first translated into English in 2004 by ADVision, but they only published 3 volumes of it. Then in 2004 Tokyo Pop published it here, but only got up to 8 volumes.
The anime TV series was published here on DVD by Nozomi! Tokyo Pop has started over with the lovely larger 6.125″ x 8.5″ omnibus editions of the manga, starting with the Aqua tales! Volume 3 is purriced $24.99 and has the 376 pages of chapters 21 – 30 plus the special chapter, including 14 color pages. The wraparound cover is graced by Aika and Hime!
The manga was was translated by Alethea & Athena Nibley with Katie McLendon, retouched & lettered by Vibrraant, edited by Lena Atanassova, and in – chiefly edited by Stu Levy, with the marketing by Kae Winters, graphic design by the digital tech / media assistant Phillip Hong. Set in the springtime of the year 2302, it has already been the year since Akari came to Aqua from Manhome!
Akari wears briefly the kitty hat at the start of chapter 21! In this volume, Akira and Alice are introduced; Aika and Alice have the rowing contest; the Aria employees visit an old abandoned railway, Alicia, Akari, Aika and Akira go to an island beach; the apprentices go on a treasure hunt, the high tide brings the Festa del Bocolo, Akari discovers a mystrious cat cafe, an ailing Aika craves pudding…
… the apprentices meet the grandmother who founded Aria Company, and the many friends gather for the Redentore festival at the end of Summer! The characters are endearing, the art is as beautiful as beautiful can be, the environments are utterly charming , and the mythology is quite wonderful with the dash of surreal and perhaps magickal moments, so I will give I will give volume 3 the highest praise!
So like, Empowered is Adam Warren’s sexy & (usually) comedic manga – inspired super-hero tale since 2007 which the titular character who has the totally awesome powers, many victories and soem good friends, but she has the angsty self – esteem and family issues. Her powers stem from her skin tight alien hyper-membrane costume, which tends to suffer the damages!
Among the many other recurring characters are her boyfriend Thugboy, her best friends Jinjette and Sistah Spooky, Caged Netherwolf, and other super heroes. We have met Adam Warren a couple of times at Heroes Con, and are particularly fond of his Dirty Pair, Bubblegum Crisis, Gen 13, Teen Titans, and Livewires, tales too, fur shur!
Originally published in comic book form it is currently the web comic at http://empoweredcomic.com
, but it is not for the widdle kitties due to the sexuality, nudity, violence & language! Published by Dark Horse, Volume 11 is the 9” x6 .5” x 5/8” trade paperback with the 216 Black and White pages of the tale written & drawn by Adam plus the cover art colored by Arist Deyn.
It was edited by Chris Warner and assistantly edited by Konner Knudsen, with the graphic design by Brennan Thorne, logo design by Eugene Wang, digital art and production by Chris Horn. The tale is the bit different from usual, in that it is far more serious, tragic and grueling, with Empy fighting relentlessly against villain Neurostar and the many heroes he has mind-controlled.
Aided by the Superhomys’ leader Captain Rivet and ghost of Neurostar’s telepathic sister, Emy is persued by Ninjette, Thugboy, Maid Man, Major Havoc, Scrapping Buck, Daisycutter, Unibrow, Country Strong, Sigmata Hari, Willy Pete and numerous others. Except for the few interludes of Empy’s friendships and the psychic siblings’ history, it is mostly the non-stop battle royale!
We hope that after this outing, that Empy will have a much kinder, gentler, and more confident heroic life with her family and friends; and we will continue to eagerly anticipate Adam Warren’s next great works, fur shur! Now here is Tara-chan to tell us about
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #82!
Hai! We love the My Little Pony comics which are published by IDW, because they so faithfully capture the look, characters, tales and spirit of the animated TV series, but with the different strengths of the comic book medium, nya! it is hard to believe that the Friendship is Magic animated series is nearing its 10th anniversary, and – and that the pony comics have been around for the seven years, nya!
They have the great stable of the artists, writers, editors, colorists and – and the letterers, and issue #82’s tale was written by Kate Sherron, illustrated by Toni Kuusisto, colored by Heather Breckel, lettered by Neil Uyetake, edited by Megan Brown, and – and edited grouply by Bobby Curnow, nya. Heather and- and Neil have worked on almost every issue, and – and I think Bobby has worked on them all, nya!
This issue is available in the choice of the three different covers: cover a by Toni, cover B by Sara Richard who always does such beautiful surrealistic images, and – and the scarcer ‘retailers’ incentive” cover by Nicoletta Baldari, nya! It was the tough decision, but i chose cover A which depicts Rarity with purrincess Celestia’s giant three – headed guard dog Cerberus, nya!
They are the focus of the uninterrupted, 20 page tale, which is followed by the8 pages of the ads, and I wish that all other comics were published similarly, without the interruptions, nya! Rarity is taked with dogsitting the misbehaving huge pup who has fled from the boring lonely guard job. Although Rarity has the pet cat named Opalescence, she does not have the dog – training expurrtise, nya!
It is the poignantly amewsing tale with the important message about the responsbilities of the pet ownership, nya! Also appurring are Celestial, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Apple Bloom, scootaloo, and – and Rarity’s younger sister Sweetie Belle, plus some orf the background ponies to identify, nya!
I purrticualrly like the richly – colored, art, which has the purrfect pony purroportions and- and expurressions amidst the lovely backgrounds, the excellent fonts, and – and the great sequential techniques for the graphic narrative, so i will give this issue the grade of the “A” as in applebuck, nya! I am done, so nyow here is onee-chan to tell us about
Future Foundation #2, nya!
Arigato, nya! Since my favoritest recent Marvel Comic The Unstoppable Wasp was cancelled, I have been eagerly anticipating this new series by it’s author Jeremy Whitely, which stars another diverse group of the smart young supurr heroes, nya! Jeremy also created & writes Princeless, Raven the Pirate Princess, and has written many other comics such as my Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Vampirella Sea of Thieves, Thor vs Hulk, and the numerous other Marvel Comics, nya!
We have met Jeremy at the comic book conventions and at the Free Comic Book Day festivities, nya! Purriced at $3.99 and rated for the teen readers, Future Foundation #1 has the 28 pages compurrised of the 20 page tale plus the credits page, roll call page, the Stan Lee Soapbox repurrint from May 1969, the purreview page, and the 4 pages of the ads, nya.
The tale was pencilled by Will Robson & Paco Diaz, inked by Daniele Orlandini, Will & Paco, colored by Greg Menzie wit5h Chris O’Halloran, lettered by Joe Caramagna and edited by Sarah Brunstad with the purrduction by Nick Russell, nya. The mane cover art is by Carlos Pacheko; and the variant cover is byHumberto Ramos & Edgar Delgado, nya!
The purremise of this series is that Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four founded the new team of the smartest youngsters in the multiverse, who are searching for the missing Molecule Man, nya! The future foundation team is compurrised of siblings Julie & Alex Power, Moloids Tong, Torg & Koor, Vil & Wu of The Uhari, Dragon Man, Bently 23 the clone of The Wizard, Xavier Institute alumni Artie & Leech, and Onome the Wakandan engineer, nya!
Some of the characters I am quite familiar with, such as Artie & Leech of the X-Men comics, Julie & Alex of the Power pack comics, and Yondu, nya. Julie was also in the Avengers Academy series which I was purrticularly fond of, nya! So, in issue #1, as purrt of the Molecule Man mission, they have teamed up with Yondu of the Guardians of the Galaxy to rescue Reed Richards from L’ar Gath Five the intergalactic purrision, nya.
Unfortuantely, that chap turned out to be the evil “Ultimates” Earth 1610version of Reed a.k.a Maker, who has his own team of supurr villains, nya! Issue #2 purrvides the bit of historical information about Maker and the Molecule Man, then introduces’s Reed’s cohorts Al’ti Vidu of the Shi’ar, Phyllis the Kronan, and Kl’rath of the Zn’rx, nya. Thusly the big brawl ensues betwixt the heroes and the villains, and we get to see Julie’s beautiful costume, nya!
She has the abs, nya! Sadly the fight begins to favor the bad guys, but then fortunately Rebecca Barnes arrives to help the heroes, nya! She is the younger sister of James Buchanon “Bucky” Barnes, a.k.a The Winter Soldier, nya! Her costume resembles the cross between Winter Soldier and Captain America, nya. She has the shield too, nya! You know, her brother recently appurred in the Unstoppable Wasp comics, nya!
I should not further spoil the plot, which is quite mewsing, thrilling & fun with the peppy dialogue, nya! The character, scenic & FX art is quite lovely with the sumptuous colors, and I purrticularly like the rainbow effect when Julie flies at the light speed, nya! I will give this 1st issue the A as in Artie and my anticipation for what happens next! I hope that they will team up with other young geniuses in the future, such as purrhaps Ironheart, The Wasp and the G.I.R.L. team, nya!
Star Trek The Official Guide to the Animated Series
Looking back on it, it’s hard to believe that it was “only” four years after the original Star Trek TV series was cancelled that the Emmy award – winning animated series premiered on NBC in the fall of 1973! Produced by Gene Roddenberry, D.C. Fontana, Norm Prescott & Lou Scheimer, directed by Hal Sutherland and animated by Filmation, it ran for twenty two 24 min. episodes from September 1973 to October 1974.
It starred the voices of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelly, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, Majel Barret, and among the guest starring voices were Mark Lenard, Stanley Adams, Roger C. Carmel, Ted Knight and Ed Bishop; and among the writers were Fontana, David Gerrold, Walter Koenig, Larry Niven, Paul Scneider, Margaret Armen, Howard Weintein, Marc Daniels and Samuel Peeples.
The medium of animation allowed a lot of amazing vessels, environments, creatures and FX that the original series’s budget and technology couldn’t; and it introduced us to new Enterprise officers such as M’Ress and Arex! I especially recommend the episodes “Beyond the Farthest Star”, “More Tribbles, More Troubles”, “Yesteryear”, “The Slaver Weapon”, “The Lorelei Signal” and “How Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth”.
Alan Dean Foster wrote some terrific prose adaptations of the episodes for the Star Trek Log series vol. 1 – 10, but for a long time, Bjo Trimble’s legendary Star Trek Concordance was the only officially licensed Star Trek book that offered much information about the animated series; and even Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens’ lovely coffe-table book The Art of Star Trek only devoted about a dozen pages to the animated Trek.
Finally last month saw the publication of this handsome hardcover book exclusively dedicated to that series! Published by Weldonowen, written by Aaron Harvey & Rich Schepis, with an afterward by Dayton Ward (who are all very talented, enthused, expert fans), this hardcover book measures 9 3/4” x 10 7/8” x 3/4”; it has 160 full color pages, and it’s priced $34.99 in the USA, $39.99 in Canada.
It’s brimming handsomely with information and images on the art & making of the series There are quotes, press materials, production notes, synopses, photos, peeks at scripts, a few photos of merchandise, storyboards, concept art, cel art, bloopers and so forth. There are hundreds of images, including a few full-page pics, two-page spreads, two dozen panoramic images, and I give this book an “A” as in Arex! Now to keep on Trekkin’, here is mike to discuss the
Star Trek – The Motion Picture novel 40th Anniversary edition!
In 1979, Pocket Books’ massive publishing campaign was part of the extensive merchandising that accompanied the release of my all-time favorite movie, and that included producer Gene Roddenberry’s novel version, which was based on the screenplay by Harold Livingston and the story by the aforementioned Alan Dean Foster.
Most of the movie and novel story are the same, but the novel discloses more of the characters’ identities & thoughts, Earth & Starfleet history & culture, technnology details, and several scenes on Earth that are not in the movie. The novel has several editor’s notes, and prefaces by Admiral James T. Kirk and the author.
in the novel, we learn a bit more about Kirk, Spock, Dr. Chapel, Commander Decker and Lt. Ilia; there are scenes with Vice Admiral Lori Ciani, who with Kirk’s science offer Commander Sonak met a tragic fate in a transporter malfunction; and a scene with Admiral Nogura who gave command of the Enterprise back to Kirk.
The biggest differences between the novel and the movie are the early chapters, with scenes of Kirk on Earth, prior to going to Starfleet headquarters in San Francisco When we first see him in the novel, he’s at a museum in Alexandria, Africa when he learns of the battle between the Klingons and the cloud-like intruder.
Then he’s off to a meeting with his “girlfriend” Lori in Gibralter, and then to San Francisco for the meeting with Nogura. The orbital office complex near the Enterprise’s dock is referred to as the Centroplex, and we get tidbits about the Vulcan Kolinar ritual, Deltan physiology, Starfleet’s Perscan and Sensceiver devices.
The 1979 novel was available as a mass-market paperback and as a hardcover book club edition; and now Simon & Schuster’s Gallery imprint has kindly re-issued it in a slightly larger trade paperback edition! The body of text is the same, and content hasn’t been changed to reflect the movie’s 2001 director’s edition.
It also retains the same front cover art, being Bob Peak’s beautiful movie poster illustration. The 252 page,1979 mass-market edition was 7” x 4 1/8” x 11/16” and priced $2.50, whereas the new 237 page trade edition is 8 3/16” x 6 1/4” x 5/8”; the font size has more leading, and the book is priced $16.00 US, $22.00 Canada.
The only other difference is that the new one lacks the front-matter’s “epigraph” (a few paragraphs about Spock from chapter 2), but adds a short “about the author” paragraph to the back matter. For those fans who don’t already have the novel or can’t find an inexpensive used copy, I’ll recommend this new edtion for an epic Trek by the creator of Star Trek! That’s all for our book reports, and now here’s our
collectibles & toy talk portion of The Mew, with Ilyana’s review
of the Disney’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Lolth Cat plushy toy!
At the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge theme parks at Disney Land in California & Disney World in Florida, there is the Black Spire Outpost’s Creatures shop at which you can purrchase plushy toys of various critters, such as the Lolth Cat! In the Star Wars universe, the Loth Cat is the wild widdle feline from the grasslands and streets of the planet Lothal.
There are several varieties of them including the Tooa sub-species! Our toy expurrt friend OB1 (who was a guest for our October 2007 Mew) brought us this lovely Lolth Cat, which should not be confuzzled with the cute 2016 Star Wars Celebration convention exlusive Lolth Cat plushy. Purriced at $49.99, this ‘un has the sound & movement!
Powered by the included 3 AAA batteries in the hidden tummy compartment, she is Fawn with the White tummy, Dark Brown paws, Brown eyes, stripes & spots. she is 11” long plus the 6” tail and stands 7” at the withers, plus the large head and the 3.5” ears! Attached to her left ear is the ear tag which has the instructions for activating the effects!
If you push her front legs forward her mouth opens! Once switched on, if you push the legs she will hiss; and if you press the tail, the brows will move and the cat will growl displeased. However, if you pet her head she will purr contentedly., and will mew for the while longer if neglected!
She was brought home in th 8.25” x 8.75” x 14.15” cardboard carrier box! I have found the purrfect spot for her along with the purriorLotlh cat plushy upon the bed in my guest room. I am done, so nyow here is becca to tell us about
Funko’s Pop! Harry Potter vinyl figure #77 Hermione Granger!
Hai! We are fans of the author J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter tales and like to collect the movies and purroducts thereof, so we were purrticlarly pleased to purrchase Funko’s Pop! Harry Potter vinyl figure #77 Hermione Granger! The Funko company’s vast line of Pop! vinyl figures are of the short cute chibi style with the oversize head. They are based upon very many movie, TV, comics, games & other frachises.
Not only is this figure of the brave, genius, heroic witch Hermione Granger (who was purrtrayed by Emma Watson in the movies), but it is her catgirl form from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets! In that tale, she drank the polyjuice potion in order to disguise herself as Hogwart’s Slytherine student Millicent Bulstrode, but the mistaken ingredient made her tempurrarily purrtially resemble Millicent’s cat!
Purrhaps y’all have seen Mike’s fan art of of Hermione http://catgirlisland.net/art/gallery8/49.html
in that condition? This is not the first figure of her in that condition, as we are fortunate to have the 5” figure of polyjuiced Hermione that was made by Mattel in 2001! Well, this Pop figure is 4 1/8” tall (including her ear pinna) with the transpurrent 2” diameter base and is packaged in the 3.5” x 4.5” x 6.75” box.
It is meowrvelously designed, sculpted and painted, from the soft light brown furry color with the subtle, purrcise markings & whiskers, to the wand in her right hand, the pleats of her skirt, the Slytherine emblem on her robe, and the Green pinstripes of her Green V-neck jumpurr! The figure’s only point of articulation is that the head can turn left or right, but it is not the spurringy nodding “bobble” head.
It typically sells retailly for about $10, but we were lucky to get it at the store’s 3 for $20 sale purrice! I have displayed her upon the shelf next to the Pops of other heroines such as Ahsoka and Alita! Speaking of Alita, I believe that we have some new fan art of her, so I will turn The Mew over to Petra and Bunni who will purrsent the latest
additions to the Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art!
For those here for the first time, Galleries 1-8 of The Catgirl Island Mewseum of Art display images by Mike, whilst Guest Art Galleries 1-5 display images
illustrations, photos and mixed- media imagery
by other folks totally with their purrmissions, and Mike’s collaborative images with other artists can be found throughout the Mewseum, nya!
Some of the images in the mewseum are sexy, and some of them might depict artistic nudity, but most are very tame, and none of them are the hentai / porn. On Catgirl Island’s official web site, the most recent pics will be the lowermost row of the cropped widdle “thumbnail” – sized portions of the pics in a gallery, and you have to click upon those to see the uncropped full pics, nya.
We are delighted to display “Harvest Moon Holo” which is Mike’s fan art of the okami goddess Holo of the Spice & Wolf novels, manga & anime series, nya! Mike scanned the inked pencil drawing into his Mac Pro and used the mouse & Photoshop CC to color the illustration, which depicts the tastefully nude goddess amidst the moonlit harvested apples, pumplins and wheat, nya!
Nextly is “Crissygoth Fae”, which is Mike’s photo – manip starring our artist / cosplayer friend
as the goth faerie resting her Cinnabar Moth wings upon the flower bed after the long flight, nya! She was the guest of the March 2008 Mew! This composite includes the flower photo, digital wings & FX by Mike with Crissy’s original unedited photo, which y’all can see at http://www.crimsonskycreations.com/sexygoth.jpg, nya!
After that is Chef Ron’s photo of Mike’s Star Trek – The Motion Picture cosplay, nya! Chef Ron was our January 2009 gues, nya! Originally made by Mike and (mostly by) his grandmother in 1980, Mike is wearing the Starfleet Type 1 uniform from his favoritest movie, with the buckle made by Mike, the insignia & communicator from Lincoln Enterprises, and the Phaser by Playmates, in front of the movie poster by Bob Peak, nya!
The cosplay photos continue with the exquisite
“Snorlax Cosplay” by artist / author
Alexcia Reynolds http://professoroak.deviantart.com who was a guest of the August 2010 Mew, nya! Known for the sleeping and dining, Snorlax is a monster character from the Pokemon toys, games, manga & anime, nya! Fortunately this time Snorlax was roused long enough to pose for the photo, nya!
Thirdly from Alexcia is her pic of “Sailor Antares Swimwear, or
the Four S’s (Secret Senshi Summer Swimwear)”! Done for another great artist Charreddragonch https://www.deviantart.com/charreddragonchi, Alexcia used
Paint Shop Pro for this wonderful image of the orange bikini – clad fan-senshi character Sailor Antares
https://www.deviantart.com/charreddragonchi who was inspired by the Sailor Moon heroines created by Naoko Takeuchi!
The senshi fan – art continues with this
“Sexy Mercury” sketch by artist / cosplayer
Misty Hopkins http://bunnychai.blogspot.com who was one of the guests of the March 2008! In this image with the pose referenced from an idol book, Amichi Mizuno a.k.a. the super heroine Sailor Mercury is quite sensually and captivating with the view of the panty below the sailor skirt, but it is no more revealing than if she were in the bikini.
Secondly by Misty is the sketch of “Taisce”, who is an original character for another friend’s tabletop role – playing game! Taisce has the perky short coiffure, the tufted long supple ears, the bemewsed smile, and the lovely assymetric outfit!
Misty loves the Alita: Battle Angel manga, anime & live-action movie, so it is the treat to display this collage of her recent fan art of Alita and other characters who were created by Yukito Kishiro! From left to right on the top row are
Save the Duck” (inspired by a tweeted joke); whilst on the bottom row are
“Kranon Sechs” (with flirtatious Misty), and “
Chicken Wing” (as Alita is Spanish for wing)!
Then we are elated to exhibit three gorgeous new illustrations by Rebecca Brogden http://www.rbrogdenart.com
who was the guest for our September 2009 Mew! Each of these were done with the pencils, pens, Copic markers, and watercolors with the salt technique!
“Fortune Teller” depicts our neighbor Julianna, the faerie in the off – shoulder / bare-midriff top with the slit skirt and the walking stick with the crystal orb, surrounded by glowy candles upon the tree stumps! “Unicorn Secret” depicts her swishy – tailed wife Zoey in the flowy, low – cut / off – shoulder White gown with the detached sleeves and the Gold trim that matches her horn in the forest glade!
Lastly but not leastly, “Wandering Sprite” depicts their friend Liliwyndra the 4 inch tall sprite in the Blue halter top and breech – cloth perched upon a mushroom with her bindle stick! So, what do y’all think of the new art?
The placement of the candles and tips of her wings cleverly encircles the Fortune Teller illustration!
The lines put the Spurrrite in sharpurr forgeound focus against the softer background painting, nya!
I love the flowy hair, swishy tail and – and the fabric drapurry in the image of the unicorn girl, nya!
Oh I like the shading, color balance and saturation for the full moonlight conditions of the Holo pic!
The soft focus of the distant flora adds to the atmospheric perspective of the Crissy photo manip!
Mike’s costume is the faithful replica of the uniform that seems seldomly cosplayed these days.
It is wonderful to have the photo of Alexcia’s Snorlax cosplay which she should be very purroud of!
I rather like the exotic elegance of the Eiyalan and the alluringly purretty outfit that she is wearing!
Sailor Antares is the sexy powerful sight with those purroportions, the bikini and the cute coiffure!
The pic of Taisce is another example of how great Misty is at the expurressions, poses & details!
Mercury has the captivating expurression, the graceful pose and the spicey view , mew la la, nya!
Hai hai, and she intuitively brings the very cute playful quality to her bountiful Alita sketchbook!
That chicken wing is causing the cravings in my tummy! Purrhaps it will increase the business at the mewseum’s cafe!
We are quite fortunate to have all that beautiful art by such good friends!
Yes, yes we are, indeed! Ah, well, thank y’all for the presentation!
I especially like the –MOTH, NYA!
(the easily distracted catgirl with camera scampurrs after the Anadelosemia condigna)
The cat lady sings…
I wanna see it too!
(scampurrs after her best friend and the interesting insect)
There they go again!
